D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S - DAV I D C E C S A R I N I America loves to love heroes. We adore them on the sports fields, in the movie theaters, on rock-androll stages, in the history books, from the land of business, within the political arena (sometimes); and certainly, on the battlefield. We thrill at their feats of strength, prowess and courage. We applaud their performance and admire their success. We support them as visionary champions of our ideals. We are deeply grateful for their ultimate sacrifice. But we don’t know them. George Bailey of fictional Bedford Falls is a quieter and more familiar kind of hero. He’s like our moms or dads, coaches, teachers, caregivers, volunteers and mentors of many types who make up the ranks of our personal heroes. These quiet heroes are guided by a sense of fairness, responsibility and integrity -- and by the need to make a modest difference in the lives of others close by. And as George comes to understand, his influence is far greater than he had ever imagined. Good thing he had his guardian angel, Clarence, to show him the way. We owe it to our heroes to let them know how we feel. No need to wait for an angel.

BIOGR APHIES DEBRA BABICH (Sophie et al) With the radio play version of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, Debra happily makes her return engagement with Next Act Theatre. Although Debra calls Milwaukee home, she can often be seen on stages elsewhere, including the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, Actors Theatre of Indiana, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Music Theatre Louisville, Stage One Family Theatre, and the International Mystery Writers’ Festival (“Angie” Award Winner for Best Supporting Actress and Inductee to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels). Closer to home, Debra has appeared with Door Shakespeare, Fireside Theatre, Cedar Creek Repertory Theatre, In Tandem Theatre, First Stage Children’s Theatre and M. & W. Productions. DAVID CECSARINI (Stan et al/Director/ Foley Design) Long before his professional theatre debut, David busied himself in his basement performing radical surgery on most electronic devices. Eventually he put down his soldering gun in favor of just twirling the knobs and has since designed sound effects and scores for over 70 professional productions. Favorite sound designs include THE VOICE OF THE PRAIRIE, THE DRESSER, LAST OF THE BOYS, MARY’S WEDDING

and MICROCRISIS. Working as a Foley artist, however, brings sound to a whole new level of fun. David has also served as Next Act’s Producing Artistic Director for nearly 21 years. He has acted in and directed many NAT productions, and has also produced a half-dozen live radio shows for past Halloween parties and Next Act fundraisers. David places full responsibility for his errant theatrical career squarely on his engineer-father’s shoulders; the man who enjoyed countless hours listening to music, singing, making goofy tapes for kids and relatives, operated a ham (oh yeah) radio, loved telling jokes in foreign accents, and bought the Longines Symphonette Society albums that taught his son about radio. Thanks, Dad. BO JOHNSON (Bo et al) Bo’s most recent performance on the Next Act stage was as Gary Gauger in THE EXONERATED. Other Next Act credits include SIDE MAN, DEAR ESTHER, and FALLEN ANGELS. Since performing in THE EXONERATED, Bo has had the pleasure of performing the role of Willy Wonka in First Stage Children’s Theatre’s production of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and directing a production of THE BIBLE, THE COMPLETE WORD OF GOD: ABRIDGED (which performed on the Next Act stage, thanks to the generosity of David C. and the whole Next Act staff ). LIFE closes, Bo will be performing in the hysterical, irreverent, musical, murder mystery, multiple ending, puppet show WHO KILLED SANTA at Carte Blanche Studios (flyers are in the lobby). He hopes you come out and see it. You won’t be disappointed. MARY MACDONALD KERR (Judy/Mary/Writer/ Adapter) IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE marks Mary’s 17th production at Next Act. Favorite roles here include Terry in SIDE MAN, Frankie in VOICE OF THE PRAIRIE, Sylvia in SYLVIA and Grace in FAITH HEALER. Mary is also very proud of her role as director for Next Act’s productions of GOING TO ST. IVES, PURGATORIO, MERCY OF A STORM, GREETINGS and VIGIL. Mary has been a theatre artist in Milwaukee for 18 seasons, acting and directing at Milwaukee Rep, Milwaukee Chamber, Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee Shakespeare and First Stage. She is an avid fan of It’s a Wonderful Life, and is truly thrilled to be involved in this production. NORMAN MOSES (James/ George) Norman Moses was most recently seen as Doc in American Folklore Theatre’s production of CHEESEHEADS, THE MUSICAL in Door County. Favorite roles include Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN at Skylight Music Theatre, Leonard Mugatti in WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM at Forward Theater, Gordon Miller (Groucho) in ROOM SERVICE at Next Act Theatre, Gabe in DINNER WITH FRIENDS at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre and Don Armado in LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST with Milwaukee Shakespeare Company. In 2010 he toured Japan for 11 weeks singing with the Tokyo Philharmonic in Disney on Classic. This spring he will be teaming up with John McGivern here at Next Act in THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP.

In addition to Next Act Theatre, Jessica has worked with Renaissance Theatreworks, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Madison Repertory Theatre, The Little Theatre on the Square, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, J.M.
