D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E I want to tell you how honored I feel to direct this year’s musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. When attempting to choose a musical, I reminisced about many of the musicals I have enjoyed watching and performing in throughout my life. Thoroughly Modern Millie drew me in due to the memorable music and dance numbers as well as the opportunity it provides the entire cast, especially our amazingly talented current group of ladies. I soon realized that this relatively new Broadway musical had to be the one. I would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible students I have worked with. I want to first thank my actors for the MANY hours they have put into creating such an engaging show, the energy they provided night after night to bring our story to life, the time taken to learn such challenging dances and songs, and most importantly the kindness and humor that made this entire experience amazing. Also, I humbly thank the crew for the time, effort, passion, and talent they’ve given to this production. Without their efforts, we would all be sitting in the dark, our actors naked with no props to use or backdrops to create the world of our musical. A special note to seniors from cast and crew: I cannot express how much I will miss all of you when you graduate because of the incredible talent you’ve selflessly given to our theatre family throughout your time here. Your hard work, dedication, and love of the theatre inspire us all. Thank you… Thank you… Thank you!!! I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to my colleagues for their incredible contributions to this production. We could have never put on this show without the amazing technical, musical, and dance gurus who shared so much of their time, talent and passion with us all. Finally, I would like to thank my husband and family for their love and support throughout this musical process and each theatrical endeavor I embrace mind, body, and soul! Now, please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
BIOGR APHIES Katie Bentley ’12 (Mrs. Meers) is pleased as a ripe bucket of turkish delight to be in this production. You may recognize her from last year’s production of Anything Goes where she portrayed the raunchy and ridiculous Reno Sweeney. Katie would like to thank her family, her second muqin, Ms. Kind-Keppel and Brigid for being beautiful influences and inspirations. Katie will be studying music therapy for special education children at Lawrence University next fall. She hopes you are thoroughly creeped out by the end of this show. Cheerio! Braden Bjella ’13 (Jimmy Smith) is incredibly excited to play the part of Jimmy Smith. You may remember Braden as Sir Evelyn Oakley in Anything Goes, Septimus in Arcadia, or as a variety of other characters in other Whitefish Bay productions. 8 Whitefish Bay High School
Braden would like to thank the wonderful people that helped him through the whole musical process, which includes a team of wonderful friends and an amazing, caring family. Braden would also like to thank Ms. Kind-Keppel, Ms. Grossmayer, and Mr. Shoemaker for their amazing work on this show. Finally, Braden would like to quote the great Hank Kingsley, who once famously said, “Hey now!” Allie Chmiel ’12 (Mathilde/Ensemble) is ecstatic to be part of Thoroughly Modern Millie. This is an experience she will never forget. Thanks to the cast, crew, and of course the lovely directors for all their dedication and time. Allie is still waiting on some responses from colleges, but she will be majoring in Psychology next year.
B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Jonathan Dean ’13 (Ching Ho) is tickled pink with having landed such a great role as Bun Foo in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Jonathan has enjoyed his time in the theater department, both in front of and behind the curtain, having been in the chorus of Anything Goes and Guys and Dolls, as well as working stage crew for over five Whitefish Bay theater productions. Jonathan would like to thank his fellow cast, crew and pit for always doing such an awesome job, his three amazing directors for encouraging him and giving him such an incredible opportunity, and Mr. Coleman, for putting up with all of our crew shenanigans. Thank you all! Michelle Desien ’13 (Muzzy Van Hossmere) is so excited for this show she might freak out. Muzzy has been such a great inspiration for Michelle. She is truly thankful for this acting experience. She thanks all her friends and family for supporting her and continuously going over lines with her. She hopes you all enjoy the show! Let the games begin!
Anna Just Jessen ’12 (Ensemble) is an exchange student from Denmark and will remain in the United States until June. She would like to thank Ms. Kind-Keppel, Ms. Grossmayer, and Mr. Shoemaker for letting her be a part of the musical. The whole spirit and energy of our team has been unbelievable… every member is important and they help each other improve, which makes the best possible musical in the end. “It has been one of the best experiences of my life and I just can’t wait to show everyone our hard work!” Matthew Klein ’12 (Kenneth/Ensemble) Matthew is absolutely thrilled to be a part of Thoroughly Modern Millie, his second and final musical at the high school. Matthew has appeared in four other shows and helped with crew as well, the most memorable being Almost, Maine. Matthew is a senior at Bay and hopes to pursue film school next year. Theater has played a pivotal role in Matthew’s high school experience, and he would like to thank everyone who has encouraged him through his far-too-brief yet memorable time with WFBHS Theatre.

B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Rolands Lauzums ’12 (George Gershwin/ Policeman/Ensemble) is elated to be a part of this truly awesome experience. You may have seen Rolands in a variety of roles including the fearsome Grigori Stepanovich Smirnov for the State One-Act competition, the inebriated Eli Whitney in last year’s musical, Anything Goes, as well as many other roles such as his debut as Ferrallion in A Flea In Her Ear. Rolands is undecided as to his plans next year but would like to thank his family for being pretty cool and the wonderful directors for making an absolute masterpiece. Brigid McBride ’13 (Miss Flannery) is absolutely agog to be stepping into the role of Peg Flannery in this wonderfully modern production. You may have seen her as the angry yet sweet Mary Smith in Why Did God Make Sparrows? or as the painfully honest Lunka in the one-act play, “The Boor.” She would like to thank Mr Schoemaker and Miss Grossmayer for helping everyone further their musical and dancing talents, and Ms. Kind-Keppel and Katie for being the two most inspiring, hilarious, and talented women I have had the pleasure of meeting. I’ve moved on, Barney! Brendan McNally ’12 (Crew) is joyously enthralled to be a part of this year’s musical. Brendan has been involved with all fourteen shows at WFB since he was a freshman, and he believes what has made his time most enjoyable has been all the different people with whom he has worked. Next year, Brendan plans to attend UW-Whitewater looking to enroll in their Technical Theatre program. He would like to thank all of the talented actors and crew members and Mr. Coleman and Ms. KindKeppel for their inspiration. Laura Mesrobian ’14 (Miss Dorothy) is thrilled to be part of Whitefish Bay’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. You may have seen Laura in other productions around Milwaukee, such as The Music Man at Skylight Music Theatre, or The Wiz at First Stage Children’s Theater. Laura would like to thank her three directors, her voice teacher, and her family and friends for always supporting her. Katie Miller ’12 (Ruth) has had an amazing time in “Millie” and cannot believe how quickly the time passed! You may have previously seen her as an angel in last 10 Whitefish Bay High School
year’s production of Anything Goes! She would like to thank all of the members of the cast, crew and pit- especially Ms. KindKeppel, Ms. Grossmeyer, Mr. Shoemaker, Mr. Coleman, and her Priscillas for giving her some of her favorite high school memories! “Keep tapping, everybody!” Jen Pereles ’12 (New Modern/Ensemble) has loved being in Drama Club all throughout high school. This will be her first time on stage as she has only done stage crew up until now. She is looking forward to performing with this amazingly open and welcoming group of people with whom she has had the pleasure of working for the past few months. Jen will be attending Purdue University this coming fall to study Wildlife Science and hopes to continue viewing theater all throughout her life. She wants to thank her family for being so supportive and her grandparents for always taking her to shows and performances in the theater and encouraging her passion of it as well. Kelsey Pfeifer ’12 (Dorothy Parker/Pearl Lady/Ensemble) is completely and utterly in rapture over being in Millie! You may have seen her as Glory in Almost Maine, Lady Croom in Arcadia, or Rose Smith in Why Did God Make Sparrows? Next year she is headed off to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, to study Electronic Media Communications of Radio and Television, which is precisely as dorky as it sounds. She would like to thank Ms. Kind-Keppel, Ms. Grossmayer, and Mr. Shoemaker for making this such a memorable and wonderful experience. In addition, she would like to thank her lovely mother and father, Miall, and her Williams—for always being there. Patrick Pfeifer ’12 (Crew) is ecstatic to be a part of the production of TMM. During the past summer, Patrick attended The National HS Institute Cherubs program in Design/ Technical Theatre. He currently serves as WFBHS’s Drama Club President. After high school Patrick intends to study Theatre Design and hopes to take what he has learned into a career. He has enjoyed four years of WFBHS’s Theatre program and is thankful to Mr. Coleman and Ms. KindKeppel for their work on this outstanding production. He would also like to thank the rest of the crew for their persistent work to make the show what it is.
B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Emily Pogorelc ’14 (Millie Dillmount) is THRILLED to finally perform her dream role, Millie, in this fabulous production. Performing with groups such as Skylight Opera Theatre, Acacia Theatre and First Stage, she’s next appearing in Assassins at Windfall Theatre. She would like to thank Ms. Kind-Keppel, Mr. Shoe and Ms. Grossmayer for all of their hard work and faith in her, and thanks to the amazing cast, crew and pit for making this show possible. Enjoy the show! Ross Smith ’12 (Stage Manager) is happy to see this production finally up and running. Ross has been involved with Drama Club productions for three years, working every job backstage with his favorite show being Guys and Dolls. Next year, Ross plans to attend college in Madison to study Business Management and Physics. He would like to thank everyone involved in the show for all the opportunities. Zev Woskoff ’15 (Trevor Graydon III) is simply galvanized to be making his high school debut as Mr. Trevor Graydon. Though he’s a newcomer to the intensity of high school performances, Zev has also appeared in such productions as Seussical the Musical and A Year with Frog and Toad. He wishes to deeply thank Mrs. Kind-Keppel, Ms. Grossmayer, and Mr. Shoemaker for giving him this exceptional opportunity as a freshman and helping him perfect every area of Mr. Graydon’s character through hours of fantastically entertaining rehearsals. Though he doesn’t know about involvement in any upcoming performances at the moment, Zev can absolutely guarantee his millions of avid fans that there will be more to come. Amber Kind-Keppel (Director) is pleased as punch to direct Thoroughly Modern Millie with this year’s phenomenal cast, crew, pit, and colleagues. An actor first, her childhood was spent creating imaginary friends, playing pretend with her friends and family that did exist, and embracing any and all roles thrown her way. As an adult, she not only enjoys the world of the actor, but has embraced the life as a director because it feeds her mind, body, and soul. You may recognize Amber as the director for “Hamlette,” “The Still Alarm,” The Odd Couple,“Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged),”“Waiting for Lefty,” Guys and Dolls, “Time Flies,” Anything Goes, and “The Boor.”
Jeffrey Shoemaker (Music Director/Pit Conductor) is very glad to be doing another show with WFBHS this year. He would like to thank the cast and pit for working so hard to put on a great show, as well as Ksquared, Ms. Grossmeyer, and Mr. Coleman for being so great to work with. Jennifer Grossmayer (Choreographer) is thrilled to have had the opportunity to choreograph the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Ever since she was a child, she has loved dancing and singing and found a home performing on stage. Throughout the years, Ms. Grossmayer has performed in many dance and musical productions, and is eager to share her experiences choreographing for the students of Whitefish Bay High School in this incredible show. She would like to thank the wonderful cast and crew that have made her job so rewarding and have never ceased to put a smile on her face. She would also like to thank Amber Kind-Keppel, Jeff Shoemaker and John Coleman for the continued support they have given her throughout the entire production, as well as her parents, family, and friends whose constant encouragement have allowed her to always pursue her passions in life. John Coleman (Technical Director) is proud to be involved with this show, his 13th musical at WFB. As Producer and Technical Director of WFB’s annual musical, he has been responsible for bringing together the teams of directors, coordinators and volunteers who have led and taught the talented students you see performing. He would like to thank all those folks, past and present, for their dedication to Theatre, especially Terri, Christine, Chris, and Jackie. John has also been advisor to Drama Club which produces two straight plays a year and a One-Act competition piece. He has served as Director / Tech Director for those shows each year— last November saw a stunning production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia ; this spring will be Mary Chase’s Harvey. Finally, John is amazed that 30 years as a teacher have passed, but more importantly 30 years married to his wonderful wife Karen. He would like to thank her and their two daughters, Rachel and Callie, for their never-ending support.
