Kuantan Town Micro Analysis

Mobilities Traffic route & services was constructed in grid form. The transit services is quite convinient and having multi option for the citizen or visitor to choose.

Outdoor Activities

There are two leisure parks for citizen and also the visitor to approach the local culture. It very lively and several events was held generally.

Contexts & Landmarks

Multiple landmarks and iconic features appear surround the area which gave the guidance of the direction for observer to approach the city.

Zonning

Three different zonning or district was distribute by Jalan Bukit Ubi & Jalan Besar. The proposed site situated at the intersection of this three area.

Kula Cakes Site Issues

The proposed site is sandwiched between two different buildings which form up a long and narrow public space. Due to the situation of the site. The view from the site to the surrounding context is limited and less of the connection to the existing site.

Besides, the entrance of the proposed site is facing the most heavy traffic highway in Kuantan. The linger point is largely affected for the visitor to approach the site. At the back of the site, the accessibility of the site is limited due to the door at the back is locked.

Design Process Design Concept

A comfortable environment for the people to approach.

A comfortable would attract the people to explore and get known with others.

When the people getting more, it form up a commmunity which under a big cloud, a cumulus.

Beside providing a good environment, it could be a good way too to learn and experience.

A parasol which provide a shading ability for user to be comfortable under the direct sunlight. And the cloud is a natural elements which having the same ability to reflect the sunlight and also giving a comfortable atmosphere.

Design Concept Encourage the visitors to approach local

The original entrance was facing the heavy traffic highway which affect the visitor to halt and approach the proposed site. Provide another entrance at the back of the site which is locked originally to provide the permeabilit of the spatial design of the site

Provide sustainable accessibility

A proposed cultural walkway at the back lane of the shoplots to promote the silk industry of Pahang with a creative and interesting way to show the new identity of this old town. Attract the people from surrounding area to approach the site.

Visitor friendly intention to invite the visitor to explore the local culture and form up an unique relationship with the visitor.

Maximize the views from the site

The proposed site is sandwiched by two different buildings. Limited of view which become one of the weakness of the site. Maximize the view to the surrounding by using the levelling design to increase the potential of the site. 05


Site Planning Approach Site esteem & existing building relationship

Throughout the reserach on the future development of Kuantan. The area which opposite the proposed site is the tourism area which might be a high potential spot to affect the sustainability of the proposed site. Besides, the proposed site located at the node of three different area which having the potential and possibilty for the tourist and visitor to known the local landmark and important places in order to strengthen the guidence of the direction to approach Kuantan.

Social sustainability

Attract different groups of people to approach the site. The site is located at the intersection of three different district where having the potential to attract different groups of people to approach and form up a good social sustainability toward the area. By communicate with different groups of people, the community could be an interesting identity and characteristic of the site.

Site context Interactive

Kula cakehouse was originally a small shop which located at the corner of the shoplots. The proposed design would extend out the boundary of the Kula Cakehouse to the courtyard to form up the unique spatial environment of the cakehouse. Prolong the relationship of the cakehouse from the shop to the outdoor area, but giving the privacy to the hotel which located above the Kula Cakehouse.

The site is located in between two existing buildings.

Elevated design to preserve the original on ground acticities and form a sense of spatial continuity.

Substract to form the permeability between the above and below spaces.

Pull up and push down the spaces to create the different qualities of the spaces and enhance the view by levelling.
