issan’s hard-working yet visually appealing Navara is about to gain even more popularity with the addition of the new Navara Titanium, due for release in September 2012. With a host of styling and other upgrades on the current SE model, the Navara Titanium provides a stand-out option for fans of the rugged LCV.
Exclusive styling and specification upgrades Limited to a production run of just 200 units to
maintain exclusivity, the new Navara Titanium Special Version receives styling and specification upgrades to set it apart from other Navara models and which enhance its already muscular and athletic appearance. These include titanium-coloured wheels as well as a satin-smoked-finish front grille, rear step bumper, side mirror covers and door handles, in keeping with the titanium metallic theme. Feature upgrades include all-terrain tyres, a tow bar, front bull bar, tonneau cover, embossed carpets and a special Titanium branded key ring – all fitted as standard. The
Nissan Navara Titanium will be available in three colours – white, black and silver. It boasts the six-speed manual gearbox, for capitalising on the powerful but inherently lean -burning nature of its torquey 2.5-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine, which produces, in the 4X4 derivative a 128kW of power and 403Nm torque – mightier figures than competitive motors of larger capacity. The 4X4 model has fuel consumption of 9.0
litres per 100km and 3000kg towing capacity with a braked trailer. The model also has a ground clearance of 233mm, an approach angle of 29 degrees and an impressive departure angle of 22 degrees. Says Marinus Venter, Navara Product Manager at Nissan South Africa: “The Nissan Navara Titanium Special Version really brings into being the toughness of the Navara and is perfect for individuals who like to take the road less travelled. It has been well-positioned and offers great value in an exclusive package.”

Leading the way E
ntering the passenger car market in 1936 with the Model AA, Toyota has become one of the most recognised motor vehicle brands in the world. Founded by Kiichiro Toyoda, Toyota was a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works until it became an independent company in 1937 as Toyota Motor Company. In 1982, Toyota Motor Company merged with Toyota Motor Sales to form the Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC). Toyota may refer to a number of companies, but the brand is best known throughout the world for its motor vehicle products which fall under Toyota Motor Corporation. All the companies are bound in a philosophy known as the “Toyota Way” which was adopted in 2001. The values enshrined in the Toyota Way include: Challenge, Kaizen (Improvement), Genchi Genbutsu (Go and See), Respect and Teamwork. It is on this foundation that TMC designs and builds Toyota cars. One of the most notable cars for the Toyota brand is the Toyota Prius – the first mass-produced fully hybrid vehicle. The Prius was introduced in 1997 in Japan and grew to be the eco-friendly face of Toyota. Toyota has a strong motorsports grounding with its development of race cars that compete in the Word Rally Championship, Formula One and Le Mans. These developments have had an influence in the sports cars released by Toyota. Some of the most notable Toyota sports cars include the
Supra, Celica, MR2 and recently the FT 86 (known as the 86 in South Africa).
Rea Vaya Celebrates three years bus.
• Changing city streetscape: with stations that
are aesthetically pleasing with artwork and poetry. • Changing to a customer-centered public transport system that gives dignity to all users.
R
ea Vaya has moved 22 million passengers since launched 3 years ago... On 30 August 2009, South Africa's first BRT system - Rea Vaya was launched in Johannesburg. For the City of Johannesburg - Rea Vaya has always been more than a transport project. At the heart of the project has been transformation: • Changing apartheid spatial legacy - bringing Soweto and Inner City closer and enabling local economic development in township areas. • Changing from a racially divided city and transport system - to one that knits communities that were deliberately forced apart together. • Changing ownership patterns in public transport - over 300 former taxi owners, one third of whom are women - are the shareholders of Piotrans - the bus operating company and ceded 585 minibus vehicles in return for shares. • Changing to greener modes of transport: 143 Euro IV buses and private car users who are parking their cars and hopping onto the
Rea Vaya is humbled by the accolades we have received from international transport organisations - including 3 awards : ITDP: Runner Up Sustainable Transport Award 2010, UATP: Encouragement Award for efforts in improving public transport and an international award for the facilitators of negotiators. A wide variety of guests from other cities and internationally have visited the system and have been very positive. Moreover, the feedback and views from users of the system remains the most important matter to the City of Johannesburg.
Happy Birthday Rea Vaya May you grow from strength to strength!

New All-Wheel Drive Porsche 911 Models T
he new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S models unite the excellent performance and efficiency of the new generation 911 with the dynamic benefits of the latest version of the active all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system. While retaining the traditional rear-wheel drive emphasis of the 911, the all-wheel drive chassis of the Carrera 4 and 4S delivers increased traction, road-holding and dynamic performance over a wide variety of road surfaces and in all weather conditions. A distinctive identifying feature of the 911 Carrera 4 and 4S remains the wider rear wheel arches: compared to the two-wheel drive 911 Carrera models, the rear wheel arches each extend further outwards by 22 mm, and house rear tyres that are ten millimetres wider. The signature red light band that connects the two taillights has also taken on a new form.
Porsche Intelligent Performance: high levels of driving performance, low fuel consumption The new all-wheel drive 911 is available in four versions; the 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S, and as a Coupé and Cabriolet. Each model shares identical characteristics to the rear-wheel drive versions, including lightweight body design, suspension, engine choices and gearbox options; the only exceptions are modifications related to the all-wheel drive. The innovative aluminium-steel composite body construction of the 911 helps deliver a weight saving of up to 65kg versus the prior model; consequently, despite the higher level of performance, the new 911 Carrera 4 models also offer up to 16 per cent lower fuel consumption. All models have a seven-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch automatic transmission is available as an option. The 911 Carrera 4 features a rear-mounted 3.4-litre flat-six engine developing 257 kW, and can sprint from 0-100kph in as little as 4.5 seconds (Cabriolet 4.7 sec) and reach a top speed of up to 285kph (Cabriolet 282kph), depending on specification. Fuel consumption with PDK is 8.6L/100km (203 g/km CO2) for the Coupé and 8.7L/100km (205 g/km CO2) for the
Cabriolet. The 911 Carrera 4 S is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces 294 kW and delivers acceleration from 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds (Cabriolet 4.3 seconds) and a top speed of 299kph (Cabriolet 296kph). Fuel consumption with PDK is 9.1L/100km (215 g/ km CO2) for the Coupé and 9.2L/100km (217 g/km CO2) for the Cabriolet.
New: all-wheel drive indicator, Porsche Active Safe, sliding glass sunroof, extended Sport Chrono pack In the 911 Carrera 4 and 4S, a new menu in the instrument cluster informs the driver how the PTM all-wheel drive is currently distributing engine torque between the front and rear axles. In addition, coincident with the launch of the 911 Carrera 4 models, Porsche is introducing the option of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - which controls distance to traffic ahead and vehicle speed - across the 911 model range. When ordered with PDK, the ACC system adds the safety function Porsche Active Safe (PAS), which can help prevent front-end collisions. In addition, a new sliding glass sunroof is now available as an optional feature for all 911 Coupé models; and driving a 911 with a manual gearbox in combination with the optional Sport Chrono pack now has added responsiveness. In Sport Plus mode, the system automatically double-declutches during downshifts.
The attraction of traction The new 911 with all-wheel drive builds on the success of the previous generation of Carrera 4 models, of which a total of about 24,000 units have been sold since 2008. This represents a 34 per cent share of total sales of second generation ‘Type 997’ models. This previous generation introduced three of the greatest development steps in powertrain technology that the 911 with all-wheel drive ever made: new engines with direct petrol injection, the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox and electronically-controlled Porsche Traction Management (PTM). In July 2011, Porsche crowned the model series with the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, whose 3.8-litre engine was boosted to 408 hp (300 kW).
