Director, Speciality Feeds

QUALITY RAW MATERIALS The basis of any quality feed is the quality of raw materials. Marsdens buyers and nutritionists work in tandem to ensure only the best quality raw materials are sourced for our Game feed range. Marsdens aim is to manufacture and deliver consistent quality standards to our customers at all times. Raw materials are natural substances and can vary in their nutritional content and contribution to a finished feed. Marsdens nutritionists take a number of interventions to reduce Raw Material variability to an absolute minimum, ensuring the finished product is at a consistently high standard. We do this through careful selection and testing of the raw materials we use and designing feeds that help to produce fit, healthy, well feathered birds.

Fishmeal Fishmeal is: A rich source of key amino acids the building blocks of protein. A unique source of other key nutrients (oils and minerals) to help support your birds growth. Particularly important in our Starter and Early Grower feeds. All our diets are designed to meet an exacting standard and not to achieve a certain pricing point.

NUTRITIONAL INNOVATION Introducing

Introducing

P L U S Marsdens latest nutritional innovation Marsdens nutritionists in association with ForFarmers Nutritional Innovation Centre constantly work on ensuring that the game feed range continues to meet the exacting standards and needs of the modern game industry. With this is mind, the “StiMMulate” concept has been updated and Marsdens are proud to introduce a new nutritional innovation, “Nutura Game”. Nutura Game includes: Essential oils - have a positive effect on digestion and intestinal health. Organic acids - provide further intestinal support. Betaine - provides key nutritional building blocks and support to the birds natural immune system. Antioxidants - maintain tissue health Functional fibre - key to enhanced digestive health.

Marsdens latest Breeder innovation combines all of the attributes previously provided through Reproflor Game and Hatch Plus but now contains additional structural fibres. The specific sources of structural fibre will control the passage of feed through the digestive tract of the bird ensuring good digestive function and nutrient absorption. The fibre is also designed to provide a feeling of satiety in the birds and so reduce stress and improve behavioural characteristics The main components of Reproflor Plus include: Omega 3 fatty acids Antioxidants (Vitamin E, Selenium and Natural pigments) Essential oils Functional fibre Structural fibre

Nutura Game’s core focus is to support:

Gut health Efficient growth Good feathering Strong skeletal development

Nutura Game is a feature of all diets across the Marsdens range of feeds.

Reproflor Plus will provide the following benefits to the breeding bird : Maximise the performance of the high potential breeding hen. Optimise fertility of the cock bird. Have a positive effect on egg production. Ensure improvements in hatchability. Ensure high growth potential.

Nutura Game to Support Gut Health The use of Marsdens diets featuring the new Nutura Game Concept is a significant way of minimising the risk of digestive upsets and of supporting stressed and disease challenged birds.

2. If at any time birds become unwell, contact the Veterinary Surgeon immediately. If any course of treatment is required only the Veterinary surgeon can advise a medication Strategy

THE BREEDING PHASE The onset of the breeding period is one of the most critical phases in the game calendar. It is also one of the potentially most stressful in the birds life. It has been demonstrated many times that a well nourished breeding bird performs well and helps in the process of vertical transmission of nutrients from the breeder to the young poult via the hatching egg. Marsdens Aim: To establish the optimum physical condition of the bird making her ready for the key breeding period through early nutritional and management intervention. The Breeder Hen We are looking for a breeder hen with a good body condition and conformation in terms of muscle development and fat deposition. Marsdens nutritionists designed Marsdens “Pre Breeder” to: Condition the body structure and reproductive tract. Avoid the bird becoming too fat and the risk of prolapses. Avoid the bird becoming too lean and the risk of low egg numbers and reduced egg quality. Pre Breeder pellets contains all of the essential nutrients to condition the hen and cock in preparation for the breeding season, making it a vital part of the Marsdens range. Pheasant Breeder pellets along with Partridge and Duck Breeder is designed to consistently produce the very best in egg numbers, fertility and hatchability.

The egg Good shell quality is also vitally important if a high percentage of eggs produced are to be set and hatch into viable poults. Nutrition plays a key role in ensuring shell quality is optimised in the breeding bird. Marsdens Breeder supports on-going shell quality through: The supply of key minerals. A balanced supply of vitamin D and specific amino acids. Our “egg shell quality concept” is designed to optimise the key components that contribute to shell quality, taking into consideration feed intake and egg size.

Using Reproflor Plus in the breeding phase will provide the following benefits: Maximise the performance of the high potential breeding hen A positive effect on egg production Optimise cock bird fertility Ensure improvements in hatchability Ensure high growth potential.

THE STARTER PHASE The Marsdens feed philosophy is to manufacture diets with higher protein and energy levels as compared with many of its competitors and as a result the feeds produce stronger, healthy and well feathered poults. The Starter feed regime consists of:

Super Fine Crumb Fine Crumb Coarse Crumb Mini pellet Early Grower pellet (early grower is available in 2 mm, an ideal size for partridges, while pheasants would prefer a 3.5mm pellet).

All the feeds are highly nutritious; the objective to produce excellent sized poults with many game farmers endorsing this high protein feed strategy. Fishmeal as a prime source of protein Poults being put to ‘wood’ have an advantage if they are being fed Marsdens Early Grower Pellets. The high protein nutritional package…. 1. enables birds to get over the stress of the move and grow stronger more quickly. 2. Minimises the “nutritional check” to the birds, which may occur as they move between the game farm and the “wood”

Partridges Marsdens recognise the importance for day-old partridges to get off to a good start. Therefore Marsdens has developed 3 diets: Marsdens Super Fine Crumb is very small and will help to avoid ‘starve out’. Marsdens Fine Crumb is small enough for feeding from day 4 onwards, followed by Mini-Pellet. Note: The Starter feed regime provides the option of both a 29% and 26% protein strategy designed to be fed to the age of 6 weeks.

Duck Feed Regime Marsdens produce two feeds for growing ducklings which are both formulated with the mallard in mind. The Starter Crumb - 20% protein The Starter Crumb comes in a standard sized crumb form. It should be fed for the first 3 weeks. The Duck Grower – 18% protein At the beginning of week 4 the ducks can change from Crumb to Duck Grower. The 18% protein diet will produce a strong mallard at 6 weeks, ready for the switch to grain.

THE GROWER PHASE Following the Starter phase, Marsdens Early Grower is the next diet to be fed. The Early Grower Pellet Marsdens Early Grower is a 24% protein product and is designed to follow the Starter diet when feeding poults in the rearing field. With this in mind, the use of fishmeal is of prime importance. As birds are moved to the wood, the continued use of Early Grower will ensure continual strong growth of the poults when they are at a vulnerable time.

The Grower Pellet – 21% protein As an alternative to the two-stage feed regime for pheasants, Marsdens produce Grower Pellets at 21%, this being a one-stage feed regime for pheasants at ‘wood’. Where the preferred option is to feed a 2.5mm pellet in the early stages this philosophy is extended by feeding a Game Rearer 2.5 followed by a Game Grower 2.5.

The diet can be purchased in the three forms: Pellets - 3.5mm form for Pheasants and 2.5 mm form (“Superlink”) the preferred ‘one feed’ solution for use when the majority of birds being fed are partridges rather than pheasants. Mini-Pellets - 2mm mini pellet form for Partridges. The Peak Release Pellet Following the first 2½ weeks of Early Grower, the birds should move on to a Peak Release Pellet. The peak Release is a highly palatable feed containing Aniseed, which by design helps to prevent birds from straying.

Duck Feed Regime With Marsdens, the Duck Starter and Grower diets will produce a well-grown and well-feathered bird at 6 weeks of age. At this stage the bird can move on to grain.

HOLD’EM Uniquely designed to reduce the risk of both Partridges and Pheasants from straying. Keepers are familiar with the problems of ‘holding’ poults following the switch from pellets to grain. Hold’em Seed mixture and Hold’em Spice can help the bird adapt to the natural environment. Hold’em Seed Mixture This product is a mixture of succulent Seeds uniquely designed to mirror the natural habitat of the countryside.

Hold’em Game Spice If the bird is content with the environment it’s living in, it is less likely to wander. The major factor in ensuring the bird is happy is feed availability & access, but there are various other factors which can have an impact on the birds appetite: Weather conditions General health/ disease status Other feeds available, grubs, seeds & wheat Diet change pellets to wheat
