Our Mission Statement: “Our mission is to have a magazine devoted to His glory, provide cutting-edge stories important to today’s Christian, promote Christian-Judeo values we find important, and editorial content that your entire family can enjoy.” Joseph Menslage , President / Publisher-in-Chief joseph@fortbendchristianmagazine.com

Fort Bend Christian Magazine would like to wish our readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As many of you know, Christmas has been under assault for years by the “Away with the Manger” campaign. Many local, city, state, and federal government locations can no longer display Nativity scenes due to the Separation of Church and State. This principle, however, has been widely misconstrued in recent years. As originally ruled by the Supreme Court, Separation of Church and State was never intended to keep the church out of government affairs, but to keep the government out of the church. Christ is the true meaning of Christmas. It was because of His birth (and later, death and resurrection) that we, as sinners, could be redeemed to God through Christ, His Son. I love the bumper stickers that I see on cars that say, “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” and “Keep Christ in Christmas.” Good thing Christ wasn’t born today. I mean, after all, Mary was a single, pregnant teenager. She would have certainly had a lot of pressure not to have the baby! Many of you are reading Fort Bend Christian Magazine for the first time. Our magazine has been a free pick up publication since its inception in the summer of 2014 at over 600 locations. We have now decided to become a direct-mail magazine to over 23,000 homes in the Sugar Land, Missouri City, Stafford, Richmond and Rosenberg areas. We will be alternating homes each publication so you will receive this magazine (if you are reading this letter today) several times a year. With this new direct-mail approach, we hope to spread our loving message to an even larger audience. Our mission is to promote Christian and family values. We are dependent on our wonderful advertisers to accomplish this task. We encourage you, as our readers, to support them whenever possible. Please take a minute to drop by and let them know that you saw their ad in our magazine, and that you appreciate their support! If you are looking for a great Christian school for your kids, this issue features our annual Christian School Directory. We have taken the time to list many of the Christian schools in our community so that you can make an informed decision as to where your children should attend. Once again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Joseph R. Menslage President/Publisher Fort Bend Christian Magazine joseph@houstonchristianmagazine.com

Christmas Blessings: Joy, Faith and Power By Pastor Roy Meadows Christmas began in the heart of God before the World was ever formed. Jesus is called “the lamb that was slain before the earth came into being.” 1 Peter 1:18-21 says, “18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God” (NIV). The Joy, Faith and Power that we, as Christians, have cannot be separated from the Christmas experience. We celebrate the coming of a “baby”, the “lamb of God”. And, though, the religious leaders of Jesus’ day did not recognize Him, many other people did recognize Him as the Promised Savior. Even, secular kings (the “Wise Men”) knew that there was more than “just a baby” lying in that manger that special night. This Child would forever change the World. As a child, Jesus

amazed His teachers with His knowledge of God’s Word. He would change, for eternity, everyone who followed Him. Jesus changed a boisterous fisherman into a humble servant-leader who one day would lay down his life for the sake of the cause. By spending time with a politically connected, cheating and corrupt tax collector, Jesus

converted Zacchaeus into a repentant, benevolent citizen of Jericho. When others wanted to kill a woman who had sinned, Jesus forgave her and gently taught her accusers that everyone has sinned and is in need of the Savior. Two self-centered brothers, provoked by an ambitious mother who promoted them and always looked out for their future, turned into servant-leaders who presented the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. When two sisters were disappointed in Jesus for not acting according to their plan, He raised their brother from the dead and changed the lives of all who heard of this miracle. He turned their deep sorrow into unspeakable joy. We have this joy today through Christ. We rejoice that He came to the World to testify to the Truth and to forgive sin and to unite us with the Father. Our joy is complete when we realize that He is coming again. Prayer is the plan for communication between the Father and us. This Child has become our High Priest. He provides the entrance into the very presence of God. Our Joy is full because we can talk to the Father. We can confess our sin and be made clean. We can worship our Father who is in Heaven. We can thank God for what He has done. And we can ask God for what we need. All of this is possible because of the “baby in a manger”. Is there any question why we rejoice at Christmas Time? Thankfulness flows from our hearts when we think of all that

Jesus means to us. Especially, when we begin to realize what we mean to Him. He loves us so much that He gave His life to demonstrate God’s love for you and me. That is real love. In John 15:13 Jesus said, “13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (NIV). There was something about Jesus that drew people to him. Rich people, poor people, men, women, children, the upright, the uptight, the serious seekers, the hypocrites, the “righteous” and the “sinners”;

from “victims” to “victors”. Jesus was faithful to the Father’s plan and call on His life. His faithfulness, from the manger to the cross, secured for us power over temptation. Though we will be tempted, He showed that victory over temptation is possible.

Jesus had a good Word for all of them. Jesus did good everywhere He went. All in God’s good time, Christmas brought Him here. He brought “good tidings of great Joy”. His presence meant that something good was about to happen. His presence in our lives today brings Joy and the awareness that God is going to move in a powerful way in our lives. Romans 15:13 says, “13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (NIV). Jesus gave people then and gives people now the power to turn from evil and to follow Him into joy, power and hope. He changes us

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 “12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (NIV). Our Champion gives us victory over temptation and shows us how to get away from it. He gives us the power of discipline. We see in His life the very hard road that He traveled in serving the Father. Even when He was rejected and scorned by men, he prayed and told people of the Father’s plan for them. When others may have given up, he pushed on. Jesus, the Christmas Child, the Savior, the Lord overcame fear with love. Love for God and love for others empowers us to overcome obstacles, hate, and even fear itself. What a wonderful gift! In Christmas, we see how far God goes to bring us back to Him. Knowing that we could not get to Him, He came to us: The Baby, The Son, The Savior, The Lord, The King Who will return one day.

Baseball Legend Nolan Ryan Says... “When we replaced our windows with the Simonton windows, they blended with the house really well. We like the insulating factor that we get, especially in Texas, with the heat we have in the summertime and the drop in temperature that we get in the winter. The windows we had previously didn’t hold up well and didn’t do the job that we wanted from an insulating factor. Ruth chose the color, and we were really pleased with the way they turned out because we had a darker window before.”

Salesman Finds Peace, Acceptance in Mission Work, New Career By Jessa McClure When William Powars began going to pre-marital counseling with the woman he was engaged to, he never thought that the sessions would end up in a commitment to Christ and a calling to overseas missions. But, now, nine years later, he can see how God’s plan not only led him to a greater peace and purpose in his life, but a new career and Christian friends who help keep him grounded. It all started with a move to Texas from the Northeast. Powars wanted to get into the oil and gas business and make a life for himself and his future wife. “I lived with my fiancé and I partied a lot,” he said. “I got in a lot of fights. I was a college wrestler. So, I’d get drunk and fight people. I was pretty violent. I would get in a fight once every other week.” But his life soon changed when he began visiting family friend and prominent business man, Robert Wells as part of the premarital counseling his fiancé’s parents suggested. “He didn’t bring up Christianity at first. We just did person-

ality tests and he talked to us,” he said. “Then one night he invited us to his home. He told us that he and his wife were Christians and that they really thought reading the Bible provided a good foundation for a marriage.” Powars had grown up going to church so he decided to try reading the Bible. As he began reading, he realized that being a “good guy” and doing a little bit more good than bad wasn’t going to get him into Heaven. “I realized that if the standard is Jesus, then I’m nowhere near that,” he said. “The only choice is to follow Jesus.” He decided that day to give his life to Christ and to move out of the home he shared with his fiancé. He hoped that she would accept his newfound faith and join him in his walk, but she decided that wasn’t the life she wanted.

“I ended up getting on a plane and moving to South Sudan for seven months,” Powars said. “I went to get away and because I suddenly felt called.” He found himself with a renewed sense of peace and comfort, despite ending the long-term relationship. “I didn’t care if I lived or died. Anything could happen, and I’d [go to Heaven],” he said. “Having one day like that was better than my whole life before then.” He went to the Sudan as part of The Radler Foundation’s water and medical harvest missions where he helped drill for water and deliver medical supplies to remote African villages. There he not only worked with missionaries and relief workers, but with chiefs and children. He even taught some of them how to wrestle. What he didn’t know at the time, was that he was about to begin a career that would use the skills he acquired during his time spent bring aid and the Gospel to those overseas. “When I got back I was complaining to some Christian guys about needing to find a new job,” Powars said. “Through a mutual friend, Jimmy Vitulli, [who runs the Apex Energy Group], heard

about me and called me for a phone interview. He said, come to Houston and I have a job for you selling windows.” Although Powars was nervous about jumping into a job he’d never done before, his adaptability skills were sharp from his time spent in Africa. So, he took the job and started working for the home improvement business selling energy efficient windows. “I love my job. It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” he said. “I get to help people and often times have the opportunity to give my testimony.” Powars said he sees his job not only as a paycheck, but as a means to reach the lost. He remembered one visit where he lifted the spirits of a woman who hadn’t left her home in months. “I had a few minutes before another appointment and decided to stop at a home where they really needed replacement windows,” he said. “The woman inside was of Jewish decent and had a lot of questions about Jesus.” The woman told Powars about her struggles with depression and anxiety and he gave her the name of a local church where they offered counseling. “No one had talked to her in a while and she needed to vent to someone about what was going on in her life,” he said. Powars learned how to be a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on during his time in South Sudan. He interacted with people of all

socio-economic levels and backgrounds and he said it has helped him see that people all have the same needs. “Going [to Africa] and having to deal with lots of different people has helped me over here,” he said. “I’m able to go to a mansion one day and a little house the next and treat the person the same way. There is no favoritism in Christianity.”

Families with Special Needs Children: Planning for the Transition to Adulthood and Beyond By Margaret McCullough Connolly, Attorney and Counselor at Law

• Guardianship – parents or adult siblings may need to maintain decision-making responsibility. • Alternatives to guardianship, including “Supported Decision Making Plans.”

Do you know a family with a special needs child? As the child grows into the teenage years and adulthood, many parents are concerned about how they will protect the child from financial, physical, and legal harm as they turn 18 years old and “age-up” into legal adulthood. I work with these families, giving legal advice and counsel, and preparing necessary documents, as to the best way to protect their special child, taking into account the child’s own needs and capabilities, and the family’s resources. Some of the protections include:

• Special Needs Trust – to protect SSI or Medicaid benefits while allowing for funding for future needs and protection of family assets. • Powers of Attorney. • Designation of guardians or substitute guardians in case of future disability. Families are advised to begin the planning for their child’s future early, at least by age 17 ½ , in order to prevent gaps in the child’s legal protections. This article does not constitute legal advice. It is to be used for descriptive purposes only. Please seek the advice of a competent lawyer in your state.

Why the Benghazi Hearings Matter By Gary Gillen Supporters of Hillary Clinton will tell you that the Benghazi Hearings went in her favor. They will tell you that the hearings were a waste of time and that nothing new came of them. This is the usual Clinton way of dealing with their many sorties into illegality. Delay, obfuscate then reply that the question has been asked and answered. But it hadn’t, until now. The Benghazi hearings, capably led by Congressman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, were refreshing in that they were able to provide the American people the facts about the tragic and unforgivable failure of the Clinton State Department to help our Ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three other Americans who died as well as the other Americans who valiantly fought for their lives. Were it not for the hearings, we would not know that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in contravention of US Government rules, set up a server in her home in New York to shield her communica-

tions from lawful public scrutiny. All communications by government officials about their job is public information open to Freedom of Information requests by the public. That is true from your City Councilman to the President. Clinton has now admitted that she deleted some 30,000 emails she claims were personal but should she

be allowed to make that decision? The FBI is investigating that breach of the law now. And most important, her private server did not have the high level of security the State Department servers do. How much sensitive or Top Secret information is now in the hands of the Chinese or Russians because of her failure to safeguard our information? Were it not for the hearings we would not know that the Ambassador sent, literally, hundreds of requests for added security for days up to and including the day he was murdered. I don’t know which is worse, that Clinton knew about the requests and ignored them or she surrounded herself with such incompetence that they failed to inform her. Were it not for the hearings we would not know that, with our facility and its people under siege fighting for their lives, Clinton didn’t rush to the White House Situation Room to direct efforts to save them. She didn’t stay at her desk at the State Department to monitor the event. She went home. And worse, we learned that the President jetted off to Las Vegas for a Democratic fundraiser. All this while Americans fought for and, in four cases lost, their lives. Were it not for the hearings we would not know that shortly after issuing a press release blaming a video for a “spontaneous protest”

she emailed her daughter the truth. The next day, while the Obama Administration continued to blame the video she emailed the Prime Minister of Egypt with these words, “We know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack. Not a protest.” Even more disgusting, days later, as the bodies of these American heroes arrived in the US, she and the President told the assembled family members the ultimate lie, that the video was to blame. Of course, he had an election coming up and truth was less important to them than winning. It is rich that the Democrats on the committee railed against the $5 Million cost of the committee as if spending your money bothered them. The cost of finding the truth about what happened at Benghazi was less than the transportation cost of even one of President Obama’s Hawaiian vacations. Were it not for these hearings, we would not know the truth.

Cracking the Teenager Code: Three Ways to Get Your Kids to Talk to You By Dr. Rebecca Deurlein If you’re a parent, you’re about halfway through the school year, one you no longer see as new, or a blank slate, but one that is likely leaving you tired, frustrated, and perplexed. Why won’t my daughter talk to me about what’s going on with her friends? Why does my son lie to me about not having homework, and why is my previous “A” student now making “C’s”? These are questions that keep parents up at night, that turn their brown hair to gray. Parenting is tough, and parenting teens through school is even tougher. But there are ways to communicate with your kids, ways to run your home and family life, and ways to be involved in school that are appropriate, healthy, and constructive. My book Teenagers 101 talks about this from my perspective, that of a 20-year veteran high school teacher who has taught thousands of teenagers and raised two of my own. This column, which will appear each month in this magazine, will offer tidbits from my book to help you navigate the waters of raising teenagers

who, with your guidance, will become responsible, respectful, and independent. Much of my discussion in this column will focus on teens taking responsibility for their choices and the ensuing consequences. That includes paying attention in class, completing homework on their own, managing their individual schedules, learning life skills, and displaying a Christian attitude of respect and loving logic. This month, we’ll focus on the basic foundation of these behaviors: fostering open communication between parents and kids that is calm and productive. This begins with 3 basic steps. 1. Don’t overreact – As Christian parents, we tend to feel that if we attend church as a family, pray together, and ground our kids in the Word, they will resist temptations and stand apart from their peers. Certainly, growing up in a Christian household has a profound effect on kids. But keep in mind – they’re still kids, and no matter how important you believe yourself to be in their lives, their peers are more important. Acceptance is a basic need for all humans, and teens will do almost anything to fit in with their peers. When this happens, it is crucial that you remain calm and understanding, that you listen with an open mind and heart, and that you react in a way that will keep your kids talking to you. I’ve had some difficult conversations with my kids – in fact, lots of them – and I knew I succeeded in my role as parent when they came back for more. Even in their 20s, they call me with their problems, and while they may be afraid to tell me about a huge mistake or choice they made, they do, because they know I’ll still love them and talk them through it without judging them or “flipping out.”

2. Like or at least find good qualities in their friends and significant others – Yes, this is sometimes very hard to do. But the second you tell your kids not to talk to or hang out with another kid, you will send them running straight into that relationship. It is in teens’ natures to break away from parents and think for themselves, and while you may view this as rebellion, they view it as necessary to their independence. It’s perfectly fine to show concern about a friend, but focus on the friend’s actions and behaviors as concrete examples of your concern, versus attacking the individual. Instead of saying, “I don’t like that kid – he seems wild,” say, “I didn’t like that he stayed out past his parents’ curfew. Why do you think he did that?” Then listen. Which leads us to number 3. 3. Really listen to your kids – Probably the single biggest complaint I hear from teens about their parents is that they just don’t listen. They preach, they lecture, they talk, talk, talk (remember, this is the teen perspective), but they don’t hear their kids. As adults, we feel we have wisdom and experience to offer our children. This is true, but when we take a didactic approach to sharing advice, our kids shut down, because we are talking at them rather than to them. It’s much more constructive to ask strategic questions of your kids that get them talking so you can really get inside their heads. When they ask for advice, by all means give it, but don’t assume they always want it. Sometimes, they just want to share their thoughts, vent their frustrations, or find validation from the people they love most. Be those people, because when you are, the lines of communication will open up, and so will a whole new world of mutual respect and love.

Time for a Family Meeting to Discuss Financial Preparations? By Peter Horton Edward Jones During the holiday season, you no doubt have a lot going on in your life — work functions, gatherings with friends and neighbors, tracking down the elusive “perfect gift,” etc. But you may find it valuable to add one more event to your calendar: a family meeting to discuss those financial preparations that affect you and your loved ones. Of course, the scope of your meeting will depend on your age and the age of your children, and on whether you have elderly parents. So, let’s look at one family meeting scenario that would work under two different sets of circumstances: you are meeting with your own grown children or you are meeting with your elderly parents. In either case, you’ll want to review the following areas: • Investment information – It’s a good idea to let your grown children know where you (and your spouse, if still living) keep your in-

professionals and how to contact them. Similarly, seek the same information from your parents.

Help a Child in Need

• Wishes for future living arrangements – It’s certainly possible that you will be able to live independently your whole life. On the other hand, you may eventually need some type of long-term care, such as that provided in a nursing home or an assisted-living residence. Let your children know what your feelings are about such a possibility, and what preparations you have made. And try to elicit the same information from your own parents. • Funeral or burial instructions – Admittedly, you can probably find topics that are more pleasant to discuss than funeral plans. Yet, if you make your own burial or cremation plans in advance, and possibly even prepay for them, you will be taking a tremendous burden off the shoulders of your loved ones, who won’t be forced to make difficult decisions — or scramble for money at short notice — during a highly emotional time in their lives. Once again, you’ll also want to learn about your parents’ desires for their final arrangements, and what steps they may have already taken in this area. By holding a family meeting about these issues today, you can avoid a lot of stress and misunderstandings in the future. So bring out the coffee and cookies — and start talking. ‘All God’s Creatures’: Local Reptile Rescue Shows Love of Christ Through Animal Care & Rehabilitation By Jessa McClure An alarm clock blares into the darkness, and Pauline Downing gets out of bed to start a full day. She and her husband Michael are caretakers to an unusual lot of boarders who need constant care. Although they have eight children, 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, they won’t be burping babies and changing diapers. They will be cleaning tanks and feeding the 37 reptiles who take up residence in several rooms of their home. The Downings own and operate All God’s Creatures Reptile Rescue a 501 (c)(3) non-profit rescue/shelter and have been saving and rehoming cold-blooded creatures for almost a decade. “I met Michael in the mid-90s and he handed me a boa constrictor,” Pauline said. “I didn’t run screaming so he knew I was a keeper.” After getting married, the two found themselves acquiring reptiles—a pastime Michael has enjoyed since he was a child. “Mike has always rescued reptiles one way or another,” Pauline said. “I have a picture of him holding a green tree iguana on his fifth birthday.”

Pauline adopted her new husband’s passion for reptiles and their friends and neighbors began to notify the couple when they had an unwanted reptiles in their yards or homes. “Somebody would call and say, hey, I have a coral snake or a copperhead in my yard, and Mike would go get it,” she said. “Then it just started. Bit by bit we acquired, and relocated more reptiles.” Right now the couple has almost three dozen reptiles in their Sienna home including several pythons, two bearded dragons affectionately called Huff and Puff, and a ten-and-a-half-foot long Columbian Red Tail boa constrictor.

Because their rescue is so unusual—there are only a handful of reptile rescues in the region—they have been asked why they spend their time and efforts rescuing and rehabilitating these unique creatures. “Just because the animals wear the title of reptile doesn’t mean they don’t need the same care and same quality of life that anybody else would get,” Michael said. “That’s just what we believe in.” The Downings say they are leading by example like Christ did when he walked the earth. They want to show people how to treat “all God’s creatures.” The couple often comes across reptiles with special needs, and has never turned one away. “We have a little gecko from one of the pet stores that had stick tail. It’s usually fatal,” Pauline said. “We took him to the vet and they said, I’m sorry, but I don’t think he’s going to make it through the weekend.” But the Downings didn’t give up. They gave him antibiotics and fed him several times a day with an eye dropper. “He still won’t eat very much, but he’s still alive and it’s been over a month,” she said. “We’re doing every possible thing we can for the quality of life in these animals.” Their love for taking care of others not only translates to their

work with their beloved reptiles, but they also make sure the children that come through their home never go without. “Pauline mentors and there’s not a child that comes through here that doesn’t get fed and get their needs met,” Mike said. “If there’s a financial issue, they’re never going to be turned away. We never say no. God tells us not to say no. You take in a stranger because you never know if you’re talking to an angel.” The Downings have learned a lot about caring for God’s creatures in their years as rescuers, but they continue to add to their repertoire of knowledge through conferences and time spent with experts. “I have several techs in the Texas A&M herpetology department that I’m constantly in contact with,” Pauline said. “We have a great support staff in our vet, and we have several friends in the reptile business. And there’s always Google when I’m in a hurry. We’re 60,

but we’re never too old to learn.” The couple is taking that knowledge and educating others about how to properly care for reptiles and what to do if they come across one in the wild or in their own front yard. “We do lectures at schools and at Boy Scout meetings,” Pauline said. “We teach them about how to feed and handle the animals and that it’s important to do your research before purchasing or adopting a reptile, or any pet you are interested in.” They want community members to know that they are there to help with everything from earning reptile badges, taking unwanted reptiles to rescuing and relocating coral snakes out of front yards.

“God gives us all unique talents to do His work,” Michael said. “This is how we show the love of Christ. We do everything we can to take care of God’s creatures.”

Fellowship Christian Academy (FCA) provides a place for children to grow and to learn while surrounded by God’s love. The early years of a child’s life are the years that shape their future; therefore, the curriculum is carefully selected and developed to enrich the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social development in each child. Since 1976, FCA has provided a safe and loving environment where children are encouraged to develop spiritually as they grow cognitively, socially and physically. God continues to bless Fort Bend Christian Academy as we enter into the school’s 29th year. We believe strongly that He will continue to do so as long as we remain faithful to the mission of this school. As in the past, the commitment of the Fort Bend Christian Academy faculty and staff will be to develop a partnership with parents that will assist you in fulfilling the Biblical mandate to “train up a child in the way he should go.” (Proverbs 22:6) We continue to offer an educational program that is both academically challenging and spiritually uplifting. It is important for you to know that while here, students will be instructed with the values and beliefs of a Biblical perspective worldview. It is our intent to reinforce the values and beliefs that are being taught in Christian homes. Working together toward a common goal will enable us to share the joy of watching our young people develop spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Foundations Academy is owned and operated by families who are actively involved in local churches, including volunteering as Sunday School teachers, youth leaders and are active Deacons. At Foundations Academy, we believe the preschool years are the most impressionable and critical season of a child’s life. Therefore, it is our goal at the Academy to provide a solid foundation for each child’s well-being and education to build upon as they grow older. With this basic foundation of strong self-awareness and academic concepts, children will be more equipped to excel as they enter the school age years.

Gateway America Prep started with the idea to provide students with a safe, comfortable environment in which to learn. Celebrating our 10-year anniversary we have come a long way since then, but we still hold true to our modest beginnings. We believe success breeds’ success. Therefore, every morning students will write daily affirmations, which allow them to start the day with a positive mindset. In addition, the students write 10 goals to help focus on their purpose. Within the individualized curriculum, students use daily and weekly goal sheets to create their accelerated pace and allow them to ‘own’ his own learning. Gateway offers several extra activities to complete their education. We have certified instructors teach Public Speaking, Music, Physical Fitness, and Art on a weekly basis. Established to provide sixth through twelfth graders a viable alternative to traditional classroom education, conventional curriculums, and “mandated timeline” education, Sugar Land Preparatory Academy (SLP) offers the ideal opportunity for your child to excel while learning valuable, practical, life skills. Born out of necessity, Carol and Marty Appelbaum founded Sugar Land Preparatory Academy to meet the needs of their own daughter. The Appelbaums are the owners and operators of ATI Seminars, a world-renown company providing training to over 50,000 teachers and educators annually. Combining their own expertise in the field of education with curriculum provided by New College Preparatory Academy (NCPA), they created a learning environment proven to engage and inspire students with the highest standards.

True Knight Academy 11925 SW Freeway #3 Stafford, TX 77477 (281) 978-6056 trueknight.org

True Knight Academy offers a Christian education for children who are exceptional. We also welcome siblings. We customize each student’s program to their needs. We utilize a strong curriculum and support it with brain training activities. Further, we focus on neuro-developmental activities and social skills training. Our day school has elementary and middle school classes. Highly skilled teachers and small group sizes make sure our students get the attention they need. We also have home-school support, after school programs, and several camps during the year. The abilities of our students vary widely. Each student is placed in a classroom with similar peers. Students we are accepting are in the following categories: students who need a small classroom, kinesthetic learners, autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, ADD/ADHD, intellectual disability, fragile X syndrome, communication disorder, twice exceptional, and so forth.... We believe each child has the capacity to learn and it is our responsibility to find a way to tap into that child’s potential. Our vision is to offer the best available educational opportunity for your children by staying up to date with the latest in brain research and teaching methods. Call us to tour the school.
