Majestic, refined and unmistakable in its perfect Liberty (Art Nouveau) style, the Palazzo was built to be the grandest hotel in Europe – indeed, it was the first hotel with a swimming pool on the continent. In the early years of the twentieth century, it was the most fashionable meeting place for the doyens of political, scientific and cultural society, as well as a favourite destination for European aristocracy. Now, following a remarkable transformation, the hotel once again welcomes guests of distinction to its luxurious accommodation.

In 1914, the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III, together with the whole royal family, visited the Palazzo for an extended holiday. While staying here, the King signed the deed that sanctioned Italy’s participation in the First World War. On that occasion, an entire apartment was set up and furnished: the same prestigious Royal Suite with terrace that hosts the most illustrious guests today. During the Second World War, the flag of the Red Cross flew on the roof of the Palazzo. Later, the hotel became the headquarters of the Allied Forces for the entire period of their stay in Italy. In 2008, the Palazzo was recognised by the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture as a ‘worthy of protection and conservation’.

— SUSTAINABLE WELLNESS We take a sustainable approach to all we do, using organic or eco-certified products in our kitchen and bathrooms, and recycling the vast majority of our waste. All products used in the spa and in guest rooms are made in Italy by eco-conscious suppliers that have been specially selected for their commitment to sustainable processes. All ingredients have a natural origin (not petrochemical) and have organic or eco-certified credentials. The products are made from renewable sources using environmentally friendly processes and are usually completely biodegradable, with low water toxicity. Packaging is recyclable.
