As we prepare to welcome summer in the Evergreen State, Family & MWR is working hard to bring you fun programs and special events that celebrate the season. I hope you were able to join us at last month’s first-ever Beach Bash at Shoreline Park. As our first event of the season, it was a huge success and there’s more — much more — coming! From the Summer Reading Program (it’s not just for children, but for teens and adults, too) and youth sports camps to outdoor adventure trips and the 9th Annual Down & Dirty Mud Run, this issue has all the information you need to make this summer a great one. Read about the SRP on page 23, and find details about youth sports camps on page 15. (Read about other Family-friendly information in the Family & the homefront section, beginning on page 14.) Adventure trips are listed on page 24, and details on the Down & Dirty Mud Run are on page 29. Plus, we’ve compiled a lengthy list of free and nearly free events and programs for you — check it out on page 12. Hope to see you at Freedom Fest, our annual Independence Day celebration! A
nyone who’s moved more than once knows that each relocation brings unique challenges and rewards. Relocating isn’t the easiest task, but it can be made less stressful if you approach your move like you would any complex field problem or other task.
To help prepare you for your PCS or move, we have the following briefings/classes open to Service Members and Family members: First-time PCS If this is your first time making a PCS move, join us for tips of the trade Wednesday, June 11, 3–4 p.m. in the AFCS classroom or Thursday, June 12 in the S&FRC Annex, 9–10 a.m. The meetings are held monthly — on the second Wednesday of the month at AFCS and on the second Thursday of each month at S&FRC.
Levy briefing In addition to general relocation information, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with Relocation Service Providers and representatives from Madigan, JPPSO–Northwest, Military & Family Life Consultants, Army Emergency Relief and AFCS Financial Readiness counselors. Get the answers to your questions to help you prepare for
a smoother and less stressful relocation. This briefing is provided for everyone on orders to PCS from JBLM and is held every Monday and Friday, except federal holidays.
