Do you know of a child who may be interested in participating in a Kid’s Triathlon? If so, please join us for a meeting on Thursday, March 10 at 6:30 pm at the Central Middle School Auditorium in Lawton. At this meeting, we will discuss age divisions, race events and distances to see if this is something they would enjoy. Our goal is to introduce local children to a new activity and give them the coaching they need to prepare them for fun and competition. Triathlons are individual sports, where each participant can compete at their own pace. The Lawton YMCA is creating a team to help train local youth to participate in a state-wide series starting Spring 2011. The Lawton Family YMCA will be hosting a local Youth Triathlon on June 4, 2011 as part of a state-wide YMCA Youth Triathlon Series. The Triathlon Series is for boys and girls in four age divisions (age on December 31, 2011) which feature four different distances that include swimming, biking and running: • • • •
Bantam — ages 5 and under Junior — ages 6 – 8 years Intermediate — ages 9 – 11 years Senior — ages 12 – 15 years
Team LYTE members can participate in one or more of the YMCA youth Triathlons, which will occur on the following dates and cities throughout Oklahoma: • • • • •

All kids from Lawton and the surrounding communities who are interested in participating in one or all of the YMCA Youth Triathlons in 2011 are invited to join Team LYTE and receive training from expert coaches. No prior experience or training is required. Our goal is to help local youth get involved in a new and fun sport to accomplish their goals. Some kids may want to join for the competition, others just for the fun of completing the events. Either way, all boys and girls and their parents are invited to come learn more about joining Team LYTE. The cost for team registration is only $25, and scholarships and assistance may be available for team fees or equipment needed so please come learn more.
