Monte Carlo Night at the Patriot Club March 5 Fort Sill’s Patriot Spouses’ Club and Family & MWR present Monte Carlo Night “Denim to Diamonds,” Saturday, March 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Patriot Club. Monte Carlo Night is an annual fundraising event that raises money to support educational scholarships, as well as financial support and assistance to many organizations on Fort Sill and the surrounding community. The evening includes Blackjack, Texas Hold’ Em, Craps, live and silent auctions, great prizes, food, drinks and so much more. Tickets are available for $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Mountains of Mayhem bike races March 5, 6 at LETRA Fort Sill Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host the 2011 Mountains of Mayhem Bike Event March 5-6 and at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area. The cost is $15 for the Road Race (28 miles) on Saturday, March 5, $30 for the Mountain Bike Race (17-20 miles) on Sunday, March 6 and $35 for both events. Community Dinner served March 4 at Patriot Club The Community Membership Dinner is March 4 at the Patriot Club. Youth Services offers Spring Break camp, trip The Youth Center offers a Spring Break “Boots On” Camp, March 14-18 from 7 a.m.-noon. Youth must be registered for the camp by March 7. The Youth Center opens at noon at no cost for non-campers and members. The Youth Services Spring Break Field Trip to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Dallas, Texas is March 17 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The cost for the trip is $45 and space is limited. Youth enrolled in Spring Break camp have first priority for spaces on the trip. Parents whose children are already registered with CYSS can register for the camp or the trip at the Youth Center. SAC Spring Break Camp March 14-18 focuses on fitness The School Age Center offers a Spring Break Camp March 14-18 from 5:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. for children in grades 1-5. The theme for the week is “Spring into Spring Fitness Challenge.” Everything the kids do through the week is fitness-related including doing Wii fitness exercises and walking. The children will challenge each other in fitness events. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday they will work on upper body strength and on Tuesday and Thursday the focus will be on lower body strength. The center will also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by making four-leaf clover necklaces and for the cooking project they will make green Jell-O with fruit inside. Outdoor Recreation offers a paintball day trip March 19 Get out and get moving with the Outdoor Recreation spring programs when they take a trip to the Arena Paintball Pro in Lawton March 19 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Participants must be over the age of 10. The cost of the trip is $20 and includes transportation, gear rental, field fees and 500 paint rounds. Registration ends two days before the trip date. Women can get back to Nature with Outdoor Recreation Hiking March 19 Get out and get active with other women when Outdoor Recreation takes a trip to hike in the Wildlife Refuge March 19 from 8 a.m.-noon. The trip is free and is part of the new Women in Nature program. Women, 18 and older, will explore the wildlife refuge on a guided trail hike with environmental interpretation, a little exercise and a lot of fun. Registration ends March 6. ACS offers Rear Detachment Training March 23 A Rear Detachment Training is March 23 from 8:45 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Resiliency Training Campus. The training, part of the Family and Soldier Support Training, offers information on Rear Detachment Leadership issues. Topics include Roles and Responsibilities, Deployment Cycle Tasks, Working with Families, Resources, and more. The training is geared for Rear Detachment Commanders, FRG Leaders, and Commanders, but anyone involved with the FRG may attend in an effort to have a better understanding. The cost is $185 and includes transportation, the 8-hour fishing trip and lodging. Participants are responsible for food and $16 fishing license. Couplehood workshop offered March 26 A Couplehood workshop is March 26 (rescheduled from Feb. 23). This workshop helps couples who have participated in PAIRS go to the next level and learn to continue to shape and build their relationship. Club competition underway The weight loss competition for members of the P.H.A.T. (Pretty Hot and Tempting) Club is underway. Members have divided into three teams and each team has a trainer as team leader. The teams are PHAT Babes, Team Caliente and Number One Stunners. The team leaders will also sign the teams up for the President’s Challenge and log in the hours exercised and the kind of activity performed by the team members. The team that wins a medal in the President’s Challenge and loses the most weight and body fat percent before July will win the competition and will be recognized with an award. Automotive Skills Center offers facility, staff and classes for automotive care The Automotive Skills Center can fix your car if you don’t have time. The knowledgeable staff offers repairs, tune-ups, brake jobs, and more. Make your own vehicle repairs and save a bundle at the center. The center hosts automotive repair classes and movies every month. A mandatory safety class, which is required before using the facility, is offered 30 minutes after opening. Bay rentals start at $4 per hour. Hourly care available at Grierson CDC The Alice Grierson Child Development Center offers hourly care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old, a Pre-K wrap-around care program and a part-time preschool and toddler program. The center’s hours are 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for hourly care, Pre-K wrap-around care from 5:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for the part-time programs. There is limited space available. RecPlex offers variety of movies and games, dance lessons The RecPlex has a wide variety of movies available to show for the Friday Night Movie since the center now has an account with NetFlix and Gamefly. Gamefly will also provide games for the Xboxes with Kinect, Playstation 3, and Wii’s. The Recplex also offers 10 DirecTV’s with the NFL Ticket. The RecPlex also offers Latin and Swing dance classes. Cabins open for reservation at LETRA Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area has lakeside rustic, wood cabins available for reservation in three different sizes. The small cabins accommodate up to four people; the medium cabins accommodate up to six people; and large cabins accommodate seven people. The prices for the cabins are $55 for the small cabins; $65 for the medium cabins; and $75 for the large cabins. The cabins are available for reservation to all, but there is an additional $10 cost for civilians. The cabins come with all the amenities including furnishings; heat and air; a TV and DVD player; fully-stocked kitchens with dishes and silverware; and linens and towels. Recycle Center collects recyclables The Recycle Center, located on the corner of Mow-Way and Sheridan Roads, offers collection bins available 24 hours a day. Users are reminded that the Recycle Center is a collection point



for recyclable materials only, not trash. All recyclable materials must be placed inside the collection bins. Items placed in the bins are not eligible for unit “Cash for Trash” credit. Rec Hut checks out sports equipment for patrons Feel like playing some tennis or skating, but don’t have the equipment? The Rec Hut can meet your needs. The Rec Hut (Bldg 602) is located next to Butner Field on Quinette Road, just south of the Patriot Club. Roller skates, roller blades and tennis racquets are available for check out with a picture ID. Equipment checkout is quick and easy. The Rec Hut is open during the following times: Friday from 6-10 p.m.; Saturday from 1-8 p.m.; and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Other times are available by reservation. Army Community Service offers Job Search Assistance and Resume Writing Class The Employment Readiness Program at Fort Sill is currently offering resume writing and career planning workshops to help military spouses enhance their job search. In addition, job seekers will have access to computers for resume and application and a great collection of professional career books for reference. The Caravan Club is a great way for preschoolers and their families to enjoy educational field trips throughout Lawton Fort Sill, Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas. Upcoming Events: Permits go on sale April 1 for the Post-wide Garage Sale, which is May 5 in the Building 4700 parking lot from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Permits for Family & MWR authorized patrons who wish to seel in the 4700 parking lot cost $15. Permits may be purchased at FMWR Headquarters and Equipment Checkout Center located in the RecPlex, 2502 Sheridan Road. The event is open to the public for shopping. The Fort Sill Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza for children ages 18 months-11 and Exceptional Needs children, on April 23 is not your ordinary Easter Egg Hunt. The Lawton Fort Sill community is invited to come out to Butner/Cowan Field from 11a.m.–2 p.m. and experience a special time of excitement as children “hunt” for those special prize eggs and participate in an array of activities from pony rides, paint ball and inflatables to pictures with the Easter Bunny and so much more. The only cost is food and beverage concessions. The Patriot Club will host an Easter Brunch April 24 and a Mother’s Day Brunch May 8. Watch for more information on these brunches. Fort Sill Family & Morale, Welfare and Recreation and the Fort Sill Stray Pet Facility and Vet Clinic will host the 2011 Inaugural Pooch Plunge May 7 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area. The event, held during National Pet Week and Sports and Fitness Awareness Month, will include fun events for dogs and their owners. Events include: a Pooch Plunge into Lake Elmer Thomas, a Tail-wagger Swagger Fun Run/Walk, a Canine Agility Course and much more. All pets must have up-to-date vaccines and shots. Tags and collars must be worn. There is a 2-dog limit per person and owners must pick up after their pet. Donations will be taken for the Fort Sill Stray Pet Clinic at the event.
