JUNE | JULY | AUGUST ENFIELD PRESENTS

Points of Juncture AN EXHIBITION BY Cos Ahmet

The core of Cos Ahmet’s work is centred around on the body, and more specifically, his own. Recurring themes of self, identity, gender and memory, are emotive features in much of his work, displayed as a complex set of body dialogues. Shaped by his use of metaphors, the body becomes symbolised through various interlinks – points of juncture, where body and material respond or react with each other. These responses come to light in the diverse processes and characteristics of his practice, that range from woven tapestry, works on paper, to sculpture and objects, as he makes loose connections with their attributes to represent parts of the human form. Ahmet’s approach to making, takes the traditional and practical methods of weaving, and combines the other disciplines in his practice to turn this quiet and meditative medium, typically associated with the domestic, and the subtlety of a craft usually reserved for intimate, detailed work, into challenging, visceral and thought provoking works. 27 July – 22 October, Thursdays to Sundays, 11am – 5pm Free

Students from Chickenshed present two thoughtprovoking performances that focus on addiction and representation: Having an opinion. The first performance ‘In Too Deep,’ is based on the potential causes, effects, consequences and puzzles of addiction and asks the audience to empower themselves with enough knowledge and support to answer that question “Am I in too deep?” The second performance ‘Represent’ asks the question; how much do we, as young people, know or understand about the politics of today? Do we vote? Do we want to vote? Will we ever vote? Maybe our views would change if we could actually understand what having a voice means and what it can lead to. Inspiring, engaging, thoughtful.

“It only takes one small thing, one wrong person to enter our journey to send us down a different, dark, dangerous path. If you can recognise right from wrong, would you realise when you are sinking slowly?” In Too Deep Tuesday 27 June, 7pm Millfield Theatre Wednesday 14 & Thursday 15 June, 7pm The Dugdale Tickets £5

Life Animated

The inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. Beautiful, original animations offer rich insights into Owen’s fruitful dialogue with the Disney oeuvre as he imagines himself heroically facing adversity as a member in a tribe of sidekicks. Owen’s story is a moving testament to the many ways in which stories can serve as a means of persevering through the dark times, leading us all toward the light. Cert: PG. Dir. Sonita

Teenager Sonita is a talented rapper and an indomitable force, in spite of the obstacles she faces in Iran and her conservative family. She is, however, an undocumented Afghan refugee in Tehran, and her family has other plans for her. In this gripping documentary, her dream of living abroad is about to come true just as her family plan on sending her back home to get married to a much older man. While she must now attempt to overcome numerous personal and bureaucratic hurdles to avoid what seems inevitable, the film’s director, Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami is also confronted with a dilemma: should she interfere to help her or let things unfold in front of her eyes and of the camera?
