Liberty & the Magna Carta: Poetry, Photography & Art Exhibition Tuesday 1 – Sunday 13 September Magna Carta is one of the most famous documents in the world and has had a profound influence on eight centuries of history in England and Britain. This summer saw the launch of a photography and art competition in Enfield in commemoration. Enjoy artworks on display inspired by the Great Charter in this exhibition. *Exhibition moves to The Dugdale (39 London Road, Enfield Town, EN2 6DS), Tuesday 15 – Sunday 27 September

The Victorian Kitchen Garden: an exhibition by Enfield & District Embroiders’ Guild Tuesday 1 September – Sunday 22 November Normal Hall opening hours Free admission The kitchen garden played an important and productive part of country homes such as Forty Hall, providing food, herbs and flowers for the household. Members of Enfield and District Embroiderers’ Guild present an exhibition of intricately embroidered works inspired by the history of The Victorian Garden to the Hall.

EXHIBITION
Regrowing Saturday 5 September - Sunday 1 November Normal Hall opening hours Free admission Sculptor Henry Cao’s unveils a series of works inspired by nature in the period rooms of Forty Hall, inviting audiences to explore the relationship between sculptures, hall and grounds. Using bronze and stone Cao creates organic forms that contain an element of aesthetic organisation whilst retaining the simple beauty of nature. Henry Cao studied Sculpture at the China Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1982. His work is in various international collections including the National Art Museum of China.

Spirit of Ukraine Festival Sunday 6th September 12 - 5pm Free Friends of Forty Hall Park present an event filled with arts, crafts, children’s activities, face painting and traditional music and dance. Enjoy food from one of the stalls and swing by the Ukrainian Beer Tent. Delivered in partnership with the Association of Ukrainians Waltham Cross Branch and supported by Forty Hall Estate.

The History of the Kitchen Garden Wednesday 9th September 6.30pm bar opens | Talk starts at 7.30pm £5.00 Join Andrew Newman from the Forty Hill and Bulls Cross Study Group as he explores the heyday of the walled kitchen garden and looks at how Forty Hall’s own garden evolved alongside the national trend in this illustrated talk. Programmed in partnership with the exhibition ‘The Victorian Kitchen Garden: an exhibition by Enfield and District Embroiderers Guild’ - members of the group were inspired to produce the exhibition following this very talk.

LIVE MUSIC
Music from the Black Barn Saturday 12 September (every second Saturday of the month) Forty Hall Farm’s new monthly music night, Music from the Black Barn, is guaranteed to have your toes tapping and your tail-feathers shaking! Showcasing everything from rhythm and blues, to folk, ska and soul, the night features three local bands and has a different musical theme each month. There is a bar run by local pub the Old Bell. The night is held in the Farm’s Black Barn on the second Saturday of every month. Doors open at 7pm and bands start at 8pm. Closes 11pm. £5 entry on the door. Medieval Guilds: A Serious Business Wednesday 16 September 7pm £5.00 Join Joe Studman as he talks about the medieval guilds that dominated trade in The City for over 500 years. The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers originally dealt in small wares; ribbons, pins, beads & purses. By the time Sir Nicholas Rainton became a member the Guild was dominated by merchants importing luxury silks, damasks and taffetas. This talk will explore the guild’s earlier functions along with The Embroiders, the Basketmakers, Cordwainers and other craft guilds.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Botanical Art Class: Autumn Colours Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 11am - 4pm ÂŁ65.00 per person During this two-day workshop students will undertake observational drawing to create a small watercolour study from subjects including fruits and flowers. Students will learn skills including accurate line drawing, drawing to scale, composition, tonal sketching, creating form using water colour washes and colour mixing. Students work at their own pace with some 1-2-1 tutor support. There will be tutor demonstrations, group drawing exercises and class discussions. Suitable for all abilities. Gum Bichromate Sunday 27 September 11am - 4pm ÂŁ35.00 Gum bichromate is a 19th century photographic printing process. Simple yet fun the technique offers unrivalled creative possibilities in the painterly images produced. In this workshop you will take a digital photograph, make a negative using an inkjet printer and print the results in gum bichromate to take away with you. Workshop delivered by David Cundy. Participants must bring A4 hot pressed watercolour paper.

Stories of Forty Hall Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 10am - 5pm Would you like to develop your creative writing and storytelling skills? Taking inspiration from the rich history and stories surrounding Forty Hall Estate, Nick Hunt leads a weekend workshop to help you discover your personal storytelling abilities. Nick Hunt is a travel writer, journalist, and storyteller. His first book Walking the Woods and the Water describes his eight-month walk across Europe in the footsteps of Patrick Leigh Fermor. He has also written for many publications including The Economist and The Guardian.

Spooky House Trail Saturday 3 October 3 - 5pm £7.50 Go on a spooky trail of the Hall! Follow the clues to discover the many spooky characters from Forty Hall’s past. Solve the mystery and then collect your prize pumpkin to carve to with help from friendly witches. Don’t forget to make a Smelly Ghost and a Pine Cone Spider to take home for you! FAIR AT FORTY HALL FARM
Apple Fair Sunday 4 October 11am - 4pm £4.00 adults; £2.00 children under 16yrs; free for under 3yrs. Celebrate this year’s harvest at Forty Hall Farm and enjoy all the fun of the Apple Fair. There will be apple bobbing and apple tasting, as well as opportunities to make your own apple juice, street theatre and lots of activities for children. Local food stalls will be selling delicious goodies at the Farmers Market and there’ll be a chance to visit the Forty Hall Vineyard and Orchard.

Explore Forty Hall Estate Wednesday 14 October 3pm £5.00 The extraordinarily beautiful estate surrounding Forty Hall is of historic significance and was recently subject to a major restoration project, funded by Enfield Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Join Principal Landscape Architect Chris Laine from LDA Design as he tours the grounds to explain how the parkland was restored to magnificence and points out major project highlights including of the Ornamental Pond and Mound and the 18th century Pleasure Grounds.

This workshop introduces the main stitch types and shows how traditional square motifs can be given a new twist as triangles or hexagons, freshening up a traditional craft! Tatting Skills with Crafty Cavy Thursday 22 October 12 - 2pm ÂŁ10.00 Would you like to make your own vintage-style lace? The traditional technique of making lace with a shuttle is explored in this workshop. Tatting is compact and portable, and can be used to make Victorian-style collars, cuffs and edging. Participants should bring a tatting shuttle and cotton yarn (ideally 4 ply); a crochet hook might also be useful. It will be possible to purchase items from the tutor on the day.

Tormenta String Trio Sunday 22 November 3 - 4.30pm ยฃ12.00 Established in 2013 at the Royal College of Music, the trio consists of Kamila Bydlowska (violin), Lisa Bucknell (viola) and Alisa Liubarskaya (cello). Recognised for the intensity of their performances and variety of repertoire, ranging from early classical to post romantic and contemporary. The trio will perform Beethoven String Trio in C minor, Op. 9, No. 3, Dohnรกnyi Serenade in C Major, Op. 10, Gideon Klein String Trio and Penderecki String Trio
