From summer holiday workshops to family-friendly festivals and illustration classes to thought-provoking art exhibitions there’s plenty to entertain! Make a day of it and explore Forty Hall Estate while you are here. Pop over to the farm to meet the animals, grab lunch in the café and get on your bike (or hire one of ours) to make the most of your visit. For those of you planning a special occasion this summer do remember that the Hall, Banqueting Suite and the Farm are available to hire for weddings and events. On January 1st 1753 a young girl disappeared from the City of London. She turned up on 29th January in a distressed state claiming she had spent the last four weeks in Enfield! The story filled the newspapers and scandal sheets for months in Georgian London. Discover the 20th century conspiracy theories surrounding the Enfield connection at this talk.

The London Borough of Enfield is 50 years old. How did local politics evolve from the old Manor Courts and when did the welfare of the people come under its umbrella? This talk tries to explain the development of parish democracy. Whether it works is your decision.

Workshops include; decorate a drum or shaker to join in the Parade; make a graceful dragonfly with shiny streamers; make antennae bug head-boppers and colour in your own pet insect. Baby, we are so vicious Dino Palmisano unveils a collection of tapestries from 2011-2015 inspired by specific real stories, which were portrayed in the media, and moments captured from his daily routines during those years. His source of inspiration focuses on situations, which tamper with his soul, and his intention is to capture that moment and explore it further using his imagination and curiosity, his needle and thread. Dino Palmisano is an Italian artist and art teacher who has been living and working in London since the early 90s.

Hand Embroidery Workshop designs inspired by Forty Hall Spend a relaxing afternoon learning hand embroidery. Be inspired by the ceilings, furniture and windows of Forty Hall and create your very own pin cushion and needle case. A variety of stitches will be covered in class including chain, blanket, satin, French knot and stem stitch and all materials are included with pre-embroidery designs on cotton and written instructions (to help you at home if you do not finish). TREE TALK Find out more about the many ancient and specialist trees found within the estate, including the Cedar of Lebanon, the ancient Hornbeam and many others. The talk will also touch upon the arboretum found on the grounds.

Beatrix Potter Illustration workshop To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter join illustrator Victoria Sanderson in the Warrener’s Cottage to look at some of the author’s most famous characters. Create an animal character through observational drawing and bring them to life by emphasising their characteristics and using your own imagination. Work at your own pace, supported by tutor demonstrations and 1-2-1 support. Students will draw from resource material and are welcome to bring their own photographs and images.

Prize-winning harpsichordist Yeo Yat-Soon brings a programme of 17th century music to Forty Hall. This concert, in celebration of the composer Johann Jakob Froberger (1616-1667), one of the most original and influential composers of his age. 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the composer’s birth and this programme celebrates ‘Froberger and England’, including music he composed on his visit to London in the 1650’s together with the music of the great English composer Henry Purcell.

An informative walk that looks at horticulture and key historical facts with Bryan Hewitt (Myddelton House Gardens, E. A. Beer & Blues Festival

Music on the Lawn

Brought to you by the team behind the monthly Music from the Black Barn nights, the Forty Hall Farm Beer and Blues Festival is a new event for 2016.

Back by popular demand this family event is a great day-out! Children will love the activities on offer including bee, butterfly and ladybird workshops, croquette and bouncy castle.

Organised with support from Enfield and Barnet CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and local pub The Old Bell, the Festival will feature two stages of live rhythm and blues, as well as the finest ales from London and elsewhere in the UK. Tickets includes shuttle bus transport from Enfield train stations.

Roses: Weekend botanical drawing workshop

Use the natural technique of wet felting to make a mask to wear or hang on your wall inspired by wildlife local to the Forty Hall Estate.

Butterflies Insects are a frequent feature within traditional botanical illustration adding to the beauty of a study and providing important information about the life cycle of the plant depicted. Create a small watercolour study of an insect pollinator, choosing a subject from a range of preserved butterfly species. Learn skills such as close observation of a subject, structural line drawing, creating tone using colour and working with watercolour washes. With tutor demonstrations and 1-2-1 tutor support. Suitable for all abilities.

August Bank Holiday sees the return of the Enfield Food Festival at Forty Hall Farm, a chance to salute the good food and drink produced in Enfield and its neighbouring areas, with lots of fun on the farm for all the family. In the Demo Barn, there’ll be seasonal cooking and food demonstrations, with pizza-making in the vineyard and food trails around the Farm. Chat to artisan producers on their food stalls including the welcome return of the urban cheesemakers, Wildes Cheese. Take home some great food and drink and remember to come hungry as there’ll be plenty to tempt you! Get involved with festival competitions for the most weird and wonderful veg sculptures, plus The Great Enfield Bake Off – will your Victoria Sponge take the biscuit?

Booking fees are not charged if you pay in person at the Hall. Please note: Tickets are sold on a first come first served basis. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
