CHILES, Wilbur #20740 Wellington It is with sadness we acknowledge the passing of Wilbur; husband of Judy, very proud Dad to a blended family, beloved grandad and great grandad. Wilbur and Judy began their motorhome journey with the NZMCA nearly 20 years ago and enjoyed running the odd ‘never to be ĨŽƌŐŽƩĞŶ͛ ƐĂĨĂƌŝ͘ dŚĞƌĞ ǁĂƐ ĂůǁĂLJƐ Ă ƐƚŽƌLJ ƚŽ ƚĞůů ĂďŽƵƚ :ƵĚLJ ĂŶĚ tŝůďƵƌ͛Ɛ adventures. tŝůďƵƌ ƐƉĞŶƚ ƟŵĞ ŽŶ ƚŚĞ tĞůůŝŶŐƚŽŶ ŽŵŵŝƩĞĞ͘ hƐƵĂůůLJ ůĂƚĞ͕ ŚĞ ĂůǁĂLJƐ ƚƵƌŶĞĚ ƵƉ and was ready to help at the drop of a hat. Wilbur was well known in speedway as King :ĞƐƚĞƌ ĂŶĚ ŝƚ͛Ɛ ĨĂŝƌ ƚŽ ƐĂLJ ŚĞ ŚĂĚ ŵŽƚŽƌ Žŝů running in his veins. Wilbur and Judy made some lovely friends during their membership and enjoyed travelling to places they would not have seen otherwise. He passed away surrounded by his family on the 18th of January and will be sadly missed. ZĞŇĞĐƟŽŶƐ ĨƌŽŵ ůŽŶŐͲƚĞƌŵ ĐůƵď ŵĞŵďĞƌƐ ĂůǁĂLJƐ ŵĞŶƟŽŶ ŚŽǁ ŬŝŶĚ ĞƌŶĂĚĞƩĞ ǁĂƐ͖ she was warm, easy to talk to, welcoming and ƐƵƉƉŽƌƟǀĞ ŽĨ ŶĞǁ members. On both entering and leaving the South /ƐůĂŶĚ͕ ĞƌŶĂĚĞƩĞ ĂůǁĂLJƐ ŚĂĚ ƚŽ ĐŚĞĐŬ ŝŶ Ăƚ ŽƉĞůĂŶĚƐ ĂŬĞƌLJ ŝŶ WŝĐƚŽŶ͕ ĂŶĚ ƐŚĞ ƐĐŽƉĞĚ ŽƵƚ a hairdresser wherever they travelled. She liked ƚŽ ŵĂŝŶƚĂŝŶ ŚĞƌ ƉĞƌƐŽŶĂů ƐƚĂŶĚĂƌĚƐ ŶŽ ŵĂƩĞƌ how rough the road they travelled.
Sadly, Sue collapsed the night we returned home. She was taken to hospital and passed ĂǁĂLJ ƚŚĞ ŶĞdžƚ ŵŽƌŶŝŶŐ͘ /ƚ ǁĂƐ Ăůů ƐŽ ƐƵĚĚĞŶ ĂŌĞƌ ƐƵĐŚ Ă ŐƌĞĂƚ ƟŵĞ together.

tĞ͛Ě ŵĂĚĞ ƉůĂŶƐ ǁŝƚŚ ^ƵĞ ĂŶĚ :ŽŚŶ ƚŽ ŐŽ ƚŽ the South Island for two months in March. We ĚŝĚ ƚŚĞ ƚƌŝƉ ǁŝƚŚ :ŽŚŶ͕ ďƵƚ ŝƚ ǁĂƐŶ͛ƚ ƚŚĞ ƐĂŵĞ without Sue (and her delicious cooking). Sue worked in rest homes with the elderly, a ũŽď ƐŚĞ ůŽǀĞĚ͕ ĂŶĚ ǁĂƐ ŬŝŶĚ ĂŶĚ ƉĂƟĞŶƚ ǁŝƚŚ Ăůů ƚŚŽƐĞ ƐŚĞ ĐĂƌĞĚ ĨŽƌ͘ ^ŚĞ ƌĞƟƌĞĚ ĨƌŽŵ ŚĞƌ ũŽď ŝŶ June last year and was looking forward to a long ƌĞƟƌĞŵĞŶƚ ĂŌĞƌ Ăůů ƚŚĞ LJĞĂƌƐ ƐŚĞ ŚĂĚ worked. tĞ ĮƌƐƚ ŵĞƚ ^ƵĞ ĂŶĚ :ŽŚŶ ƚŚƌŽƵŐŚ ƚŚĞ &ŝƌĞ ƌŝŐĂĚĞ͘ dŚĞLJ ǁĞƌĞ Ă ǀĞƌLJ ƐŽĐŝĂů ĐŽƵƉůĞ ǁŚŽ ŬŶĞǁ ĞǀĞƌLJŽŶĞ͘ ^ŚŽƌƚůLJ ĂŌĞƌ ǁĞ ďŽƵŐŚƚ Ă ŵŽƚŽƌŚŽŵĞ͕ ƚŚĞ DĂLJƐ ďƌŽƵŐŚƚ ŽŶĞ ƚŽŽ͘ dŚĂƚ ǁĂƐ ŐƌĞĂƚ͕ ĂƐ ǁĞ ǁĞƌĞ ĂďůĞ ƚŽ ĐŽŶƟŶƵĞ ŽƵƌ friendship on the road as well. ^ƵĞ ĚŝĚ Ă ƚĞƌŵ ĂƐ ƚŚĞ EĞǁƐůĞƩĞƌ ĚŝƚŽƌ ĨŽƌ the Wellington area and a term on the Area ŽŵŵŝƩĞĞ͘ ^ŚĞ ǁĂƐ ĂůǁĂLJƐ ǁŝůůŝŶŐ ƚŽ ŚĞůƉ where she could, and was very good with any older people that needed help at the rallies. Ian and Mary ran several safaris throughout the EŽƌƚŚ /ƐůĂŶĚ ƚŽ ƚŚĞ ͚ ƌŝĚŐĞ ƚŽ EŽǁŚĞƌĞ͛͘ Ian will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially the &ƌĞĞǁŚĞĞůĞƌƐ͘ Central Freewheelers
