FROM THE
BOG Chairman
F O U R S E A S O N S G O L F & S P O R T S C L U B C O M M U N I T Y, IT IS A TERRIFIC PRIVILEGE and an honor to serve the Board of Governors and the Membership as Chairman of the Board of Governors this year! To say that this is a unique year would be an understatement! The Board of Governors and the Management of the Club are continually working to make the Club experience the best that it can be given the federal and state guidelines during the pandemic. We thank all of the Members for adhering to these guidelines for the benefit of themselves and all of the Members. It truly is making a difference! The primary charter for the Board is to work closely with all of your committees. The spirit and enthusiasm these committees have shown during this time in supporting the Members and the Club is tremendous. I would like to share a few highlights. The Fitness Committee has been able to get back to over 50 plus exercise programs while maintaining social distance guidelines, as well as, the Fitness Center is fully open with 50% capacity. Golf Services Committee has been able to schedule a number of golf events that have been highly attended and very successful. Tennis Committee has been working very hard to get to normalcy and pickleball is available on court 11. In conjunction with Anthony Williams and his team, Greens Committee have been able to take on projects on the golf course that continually make the product better. Finally, Social Food and Beverage Committee has been able to continue to develop and help run events such as Pub Trivia, Cornhole Tournament and Wine Tastings. On a special note, we want to thank all of the Members that contributed to the Board driven Caring for All Seasons program that was able to feed many of the furloughed employees. Over $50,000 was donated for the food packages that were so much appreciated by the Four Seasons employees. This was done with the coordination of the Four Seasons team in the hotel and to see how this program helped so many was incredible! On a final note, the Board has worked very closely with Jim Kern and Ellen Frost to ensure that the Club is doing all that it can to bring the best experience it can to all of the members. The survey that was completed in August will also help provide the direction and actions that the Board and Club can take to continually improve the Member experience! Please continue to bring your ideas and concerns forward to us. I have been a member of the Sports Club for 25+ years and am proud to serve all of you, especially in this time of change and uncertainty. See you at the Club soon.

FROM THE
General Manager
De a r Fou r Se a sons G ol f
and
Sports Club Members,
WOULD LIKE TO THANK outgoing Club Board Chairman, Troy Perkins, for his leadership and dedication
to the Club. Troy has done a fantastic job in collaborating with membership and management during this very difficult and challenging time. Troy also led the effort to raise money from the membership for the Four Seasons furloughed employee food program. Thanks to Troy, and many of you, the Club was successful in providing hundreds of meals to employees and families in their time of need. This program showed the true spirit of the Club when members joined with employees each week in distributing these meals, and we are grateful for your time and generosity. I am very happy to congratulate and welcome Bill Nardiello as your new Club Chairman. Bill has been a member for more than 25 years and he has already engaged with the Board, our Committees and many of you individually on what he can do to make the Club a better place. Please join me in welcoming Bill to his new role when you see him. The impact of COVID-19 is forcing most organizations from all fields and industries to reconsider how they are operating every day, and our club is no exception. The past six months have been very challenging times for all of us. I appreciate the understanding and cooperation regarding the restrictions and rules we have had to put in place due to safety and government mandates. The Club is operating at our maximum “Covid-Capacity and I appreciate the many positive comments regarding our efforts to keep everyone healthy and safe. I am happy to report that new members have been joining the Club at levels similar to prior year, which is largely due to the passion and energy that our membership shows each day for making Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club the best in Texas. Your involvement, support, and enthusiasm are truly the heartbeat of this Club. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Board of Governors and Committees for embodying a true ambassador spirit to the Club and being the voice of the membership to the management team. I would also like to thank our dedicated staff, many of them impacted by the challenges of this difficult time, for sustaining an excellent level of service day-in and day-out during this crisis. Our 2020-2021 focus and beyond is to be ready for the mandates and restrictions to be lifted and remain working in close collaboration with your Board of Governors and committees to increase the value of your membership with every decision that is made throughout the organization. We are excited about several initiatives that have already been communicated and those that we have planned on the horizon. There is still time to qualify for Champions Club 2020 by referring a new member to join the Club. Information about these programs can be found on the Club website at www.thesportsclubfourseasons.com or can be accessed on the Club APP. You can also call Club Sales at 972-717-2525. The ongoing COVID-19 situation is an unprecedented challenge for everyone, both personally and professionally. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all our members, employees, and families that have been impacted. See you at the Club,
Jim Kern, PGA General Manager

Fall Golf Season Opens in Full Swing By Mike Kiesling, Director of Golf
As we transition from the extreme heat of summer into the more pleasurable temperatures of fall, we have a lot to be excited for. October and November offer some of the best playing conditions, weather, and Member events of the entire year. A big thank you to all of our Members for their support of the golf Agronomy team through another hot Texas summer. This year saw some of the highest demands placed on a golf course that I have seen in my professional career. Not only did we have the normal Texas heat and lack of rainfall, but this year we had to deal with heavy amounts of turf grass wear associated with single rider requests due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Membership did a great job showing their appreciation for our Agronomy team with ball mark repairs and sanding of divots during their rounds. Repairing ball marks on the greens is critical to their overall health, especially during times of weather related stress. The fall golf season is about to enter its full swing. October begins with our Club Championship on October 2 through 4. Since we missed our Senior Club Championship early in the year we will be combining both into this Club Championship weekend. YES, you can compete for both titles at the same time if you are age eligible. More details on this event can be found on the Club website calendar. We will also be conducting a 2-day Couples Club Championship in November. The Couples Club Championship will be conducted over the weekend of November 14 and 15, and will be open to couples that are on the same Membership together. The Golf Shop is the perfect place to do your holiday shopping. We are fully stocked for all your golf needs (and wants). Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to get your holiday shopping done early, especially now that several of you have all the credit book to spend from Association, and Club events this year. All credit book will expire on December 31, so don’t miss this opportunity for some good savings. Despite some challenges presented to us this year, it has been a great golf season. We appreciate everyones patience as we sorted through various mandates and recommendations by the medical community as it pertained to the enjoyment of this great game of golf. The golf professional staff has been working hard with the golf services committee to plan a great 2021 golf event calendar. We look forward to seeing you at the Club, building new relationships, and enjoying this amazing game. 8

REASONS you are not breaking 90
By Jack Danshmand, Head Golf Instructor & Junior Golf Coordinator
1. Take Your Medicine
3. Know Your Big Miss
In my experience, being an 80s golfer comes down to two things: consistency and mentality. If you’re struggling to break 90, you’re probably not hitting Greens In Regulation on a consistent basis. That’s ok — as long as you stay within your game and don’t let one missed green turn into a big number.
The big miss! That’s what is needed to avoid. It’s turning the 86s and 87s into 91s and 92s. And boy, that big miss can make someone quit once a season. Learn what your big miss is — it’s probably high, right and long — and slow down that swing, control the clubface and do whatever you can to lessen that big miss. The penalty strokes alone will save you from 95.
If you’re having difficulty with your driver then minimize your errors by chipping out and making an easy bogey, rather than trying to save a heroic par. Doubling down usually leads to blowup holes and those kill your rounds faster than you can put your driver back in your bag. By consistently eliminating doubles or worse, I inevitably also feel more confident — which is half the battle in this mental game. 2. Focus on Fairways Breaking 90 is easy when you’re hitting fairways. Even if your iron game isn’t razor-sharp, you’re likely to advance the ball close enough on your approach for your short game to save you. Get near the green in two. Simple. You only need to get up-and-down a third of the time to post something in the 80s. If you struggle with accuracy off the tee, find easier-to-hit options (5-woods, hybrids), and use more of a control swing than one that takes aim for the fences.
4. Don’t Be Flashy Around the Green Most golfers on the brink of breaking 90 aren’t hitting many Greens in Regulation. The biggest mistake you can make is thinking you’re Phil Mickelson with a lob wedge in your hands. Play it smart, play it safe. Hit more bump-and-run shots, chip with your 8-iron and when in doubt, keep the putter in your hands from just off the green. A bad putt is much more likely to do less damage, especially mentally, than say a chunked or a bladed wedge. The key is to try and secure a manageable par putt with your short game that should allow you to walk away with a bogey at the very least. 5. Accept the Bad Holes Eliminate multiple big numbers. Golfers who score in the 90s-occasional-80s shooter, you’re going to have blow-ups holes. Accept it; you just are. The key is avoiding multiple blowup holes. One 8 won’t necessarily prevent you from breaking 80, but two 8s probably will. So accept the bad holes when they come — don’t let them in get in your head. As a bogey golfer, you’re at best going to have one or two very good looks at birdie per round. Give those putts a run. Don’t fall into the trap of being content with pars. A birdie on your card can be a game-changer, especially when it comes to neutralizing those aforementioned implosions.

Tennis EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet JASON
ABANTE
Despite his small stature, JASON ABANTE is hard to miss! Whether on court with the juniors, behind the Tennis
Desk, at an event chatting it up with members, or even on the internet for Serve It Up Sunday, the guy can be seen everywhere. This UTD alum is the Four Seasons Tennis Coordinator, the *unofficial* emcee at Club events, and perhaps the Club’s biggest Houston Rockets fan. Meet Jason! How long have you been working at the Four Seasons? I’ve been the Tennis Coordinator for Four Seasons since 2017. I think the Tennis Department is a great fit for me. I really enjoy the sport. I’ve been playing tennis since I was a little kid, and all of the juniors that I teach remind me of myself when I was younger. It kind of comes full circle. What is your favorite thing about working at Four Seasons? By far it’s been the relationships I’ve made. Everyone is so friendly and chill – members, fellow coworkers, you name it. I love the atmosphere that Four Seasons has created, it’s like a big family. Also, wearing athletic clothes to work every day isn’t so bad either. What do you like to do outside of your time at Four Seasons? Well I just got married, so I enjoy hanging out with my wife the most! That or golf. If only my golf game was as good as my tennis game. Tips to give to any fellow tennis players out there? C.A.M.P. – Consistency, Accuracy, Mobility, and Power. Remember that and you’re golden!

Pickleball at the Club
*Reserved for Golf & Tennis Members Only.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America, and Four Seasons is in on the action! There’s been quite the buzz on this fun racquet (or rather, paddle) sport. Just about anyone can play – all ages and all skill levels from different athletic backgrounds, from experienced tennis players to folks who have never even held any type of racquet. Come join us once a month for our Tennis and Pickleball Happy Hours. We set up several pickleball courts right on the tennis court, where you’ll learn the game’s rules, rally a few, get the hang of the pace, and play a few matches. And of course, plenty of drinks and foodies will be waiting for you courtside. So come join in on the fun! No need to bring your own paddle or equipment, we’ve got plenty available. Hope to see y’all there!
Summer Sizzle Tennis & Pickleball Happy Hour We had not one, but TWO Happy Hours this past season! And both were a success! Even though they were called the “Summer Sizzle Happy Hours,” members enjoyed the cool, air-conditioned indoor courts – nothing hot about this event, except for the food and competition! Fierce and friendly competition was had all night on the court, and the competitive spirit transitioned over in to dinner with our games and trivia. What a great way to end the summer!
Play Staggered at Net!
TIPS FROM THE PROS
By Jerome Millet, Head Tennis Professional
Good idea when you play doubles to not necessarily play on the same line when at net. If your partner closes in on a floating ball or short lob, think about backing up a step and anticipate a lob over your partner’s head. If your partner backs up to hit an overhead, you may slowly close in to have a chance to finish the point on the next shot! Play staggered to cover the court better!

TENNIS
During COVID-19
Despite the current pandemic, tennis still remains a great sport to stay active and healthy, all while maintaining a safe physical distance. Along with other activities such as running and golf, tennis has a wide-open area, with over 7,000 square feet in a playing area, giving fellow competitors plenty of space for six feet of physical distancing. We’re happy to still see many of our members playing tennis at the Club! In fact, we’ve seen a lot more action now than before the pandemic. Four Seasons has done a great job with keeping its members safety as the main priority. Here are a few tips / reminders to do your part on the court: 1. High five with your racquet! Unfortunately, we can’t chest bump like the Bryan Brothers and have to avoid other physical contact such as shaking hands or giving high fives. But you can still celebrate a big point with racquet touches galore! 2. In doubles, make sure you and your partner are covering your own side of the court and physical distancing. Remember, the court is a very big area. So, communicate on lobs, call “mine!” or “yours!” to decipher who should hit the ball, and try your best to keep distance. 3. Avoid touching your face after handling a ball, racquet or other equipment. No Rafa Nadal pre-serve rituals or routines here! 4. Use your racquet/foot to pick up balls and hit them to your opponent. Avoid using your hands to pick up the balls. Or, you can even use two sets of balls with different numbers. 5. Finally, sanitize as much as possible. We’ve got plenty of hand sanitizer on the court!
JUNIOR TENNIS
Bring your little ones out to the Sports Club for some Junior Tennis! It’s been quite an interesting year for the kids to say the least - out of school early back in March, not as many summer camps available this past season, few extracurricular activities, and a lot of quarantining inside the house. They were going stir-crazy, and so were their parents! Luckily, tennis has been a good option for everyone to normalize some things, especially for the kids. The kiddos have been out and about seeing their friends on court and keeping things fun during this strange, unprecedented time. With that being said, bring your little ones out to the Club for some Junior Tennis! In this program, your children will learn basic tennis technique, the rules of the game, the importance of staying active, and sportsmanship, all while growing a love and passion for the game. We have different age groups where they will fit in and learn each skill set appropriately. We utilize the Quickstart USTA method that allows our juniors to play the game and learn in accelerated fashion. So, come on down with your future stars and check it out! 16

Tennis Member Profile
MEET HANNAH WALSH! HANNAH WALSH is one of the MOST ACTIVE Tennis Members at the Club. She has captained some Four Seasons ladies’ teams, is a member of the Tennis Committee and is one-half of the winning Mixed Doubles pair that took the 2020 Mixed Doubles Club Championships at Four Seasons. Meet Hannah! FS When did you start playing tennis and how long have you been a member at Four Seasons? HW I started playing tennis at about age 10 in
summer camp. Growing up in the eastern part of Long Island, NY, we were only able to play in the summer months. From 9th through 12th grades, I played on my high school’s varsity tennis team, playing mostly singles, and some doubles during senior year. I walked on to a D3 college team, but decided to take a break from competitive tennis after my first year. I continued to play occasionally and teach summer campers during the summers. Upon graduating from college, I did not pick up a racquet for the next 10 years as career and then kiddos took priority. We have been members of the Four Seasons for 2 years. FS What is your favorite aspect about the sport? HW Now as an adult, tennis for me has become part exercise, part competitive outlet, and part social outlet. I love that each match is a puzzle to solve; a 2 hour opportunity to focus only on the match and escape from the noise of our day-to-day lives.
FS We see you on court a lot, whether it be for competition, drills, or during our social events. What’s your favorite Tennis outlet at Four Seasons?
FS Hopes/goals/thoughts as member of the Tennis Committee? HW I am new to the Tennis Committee this year and am already impressed with the energy and engagement of the entire committee. While the committee’s plans to offer new tennis events (both social and skills-based) have been temporarily stalled by our public health crisis, the committee continues to meet monthly to brainstorm and develop ideas for new events and new doubles strategy-targeted mini-camps/ sessions. Committee members and Staff look forward to rolling out these new events as soon as we get the “all-clear.”
HW While I enjoy weekly drills with my
teammates and any of the great Four Seasons professionals, my favorite format is playing fun-matches with different teammates, whether women’s or mixed doubles.
FS What word of advice do you have for new members coming to the club? HW Sign up for the scheduled drills with the pros and if you are looking to join a competitive team, let the pros know. They will connect you with the captains of the teams at your level. Team captains are always looking for new players at every level and the captains at the club are the best! Also, come to the tennis/pickleball social events. The tennis staff does a fantastic job planning and organizing these fun events. They are set up for every level of play, from beginners to high-level players, so don’t be afraid to join in. THESPORTSCLU BFOU RSE A SONS.COM

WORKOUT
Fitness
minute
Here are my favorite ways to functionally train the entire body in 15 minutes or less:
INTERVAL TRAINING: HIIT (high intensity interval training) is my top choice if you want to get the most out of your limited time. HIIT training consists of alternating short periods of intense physical activity with short periods of rest. My favorite interval session involves mixing in Jacobs Ladder, or the stair machine, with high intensity strength training. 30 seconds going all out on Jacobs Ladder followed immediately by 24 reps of push-up to rows, then straight to 12 dumbbell squats. Rest for two minutes and repeat. How it helps your golf game: The best golfers in the modern game are athletes, so training like an athlete is key. This can be accomplished with high intensity training, which activates the fast twitch muscle fibers that are necessary for a faster and more explosive swing.
ROWING: Not only does rowing enhance your cardio-respiratory system, it’s great for injury prevention, improving muscle and joint mobility and burning body fat. Building short 250-meter bursts into your interval program or doing a steady rowing workout will help you maximize your gym time. How it helps your golf game: Rowing is outstanding for building upper-body strength and endurance. Consistently using a rower will add strength in your core, forearms, shoulders and wrists.

Meet
Monica Aguilera
MMA Training Instructor
KETTLEBELL TRAINING: They are about as low tech as you can get, but kettlebell training is a very efficient way to burn calories and build strength by combining strength training and cardio in one workout. Adding kettlebells to your fitness routine (or doing an entire 15-minute kettlebell workout) can maximize your time and increase strength, cardio-endurance and flexibility unlike any other single piece of equipment. Best of all, they are small, portable and take up very little space. I like timing one-minute intervals of each of the following movements in order: kettlebell swings; goblet squat to press; one arm press; one arm row; around the leg squats; Turkish get-up. Rest for two minutes and repeat.
Monica Aguilera is our Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Training instructor here at the Four Seasons Golf & Sports Club. She has been involved with MMA for over 30 years. Her background includes Boxing, Taekwondo, Karate, and Jiu Jitsu. When Monica made the decision to step out of the ring, it didn’t mean her Mixed Martial Arts journey was over. She transitioned into group training, using her knowledge of the martial arts to help empower and strengthen her class participants. When you walk into her class, you immediately feel the sense of community she has fostered with our Members. She states that she is constantly inspired by her students and that the smiles behind the strong punches are what makes sharing these practices worthwhile. MMA Training is offered every Monday and Wednesday in the Performance Zone.
How it helps your golf game: Kettlebell exercises are excellent for improving hip and core strength, two of the most important areas of focus for golfers. These kettlebell workouts are designed to help increase velocity and control, prevent injury and improve overall conditioning.

Fall is here!
I would like to share my flavorful Chile poblano recipe. This recipe can be used with chicken, seafood, pasta, etc. Buen provecho…
Poblano Cream Sauce About 16 servings
Ingredients
Instruction
• •
Pre heat oven to 475 Fahrenheit.
• • • • • • • •
5 ea. Poblano Peppers 2 oz. Vegetable Oil (for the pepper rub and cooking the sauce) 4 cloves Garlic 4 oz. Cilantro ½ Medium-size onion (coarsely chopped) 1 cup White Wine 1 tbsp. Oregano 1 cup Heavy Cream Salt & Pepper 4 oz. Slurry (equal parts of cornstarch & water)
Rub poblano peppers with half of the oil, place on a baking sheet, and roast the peppers in the oven for 10 minutes. Place peppers in small mixing bowl, cover and let them sweat for about 5 more minutes. Peel and seed them, set aside. In medium soup pot over medium heat, place oil, onion, oregano and sauté until onions beginning to soften, about 4 minutes. Add roasted poblanos and white wine. Let simmer for approximately 5 minutes. Add heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper. Slowly add slurry to mixture and cook for 5 minutes, then let it cool down. Blend with fresh cilantro, double check seasoning. Sauce is ready! Warm the poblano sauce and enjoy it with your favorite pasta, enchiladas, or as a dip.
