FROM THE
BOG Chairman
F O U R S E A S O N S G O L F & S P O R T S C L U B C O M M U N I T Y, elcome to Summer! We wanted to thank all of you for your continued support of our club and your support for the Covid guidelines which continue to improve as we get back to more normalcy. This is a very exciting time for our club and I wanted to share some of those highlights with all of you. The Board is working very closely with the management and our new General Manager on the renovations that will be taking place at the Sports Club facility, including the member’s lounge, the driving range, the golf courses, the locker rooms, and the tennis and fitness areas. The owners and the Four Seasons Corporation have recognized the value of the Sports Club and its contribution to this property especially during the downturns in the economy and its effect on the hotel. As the plans are finalized, they will be shared with the board, the committees and the membership. The goal is to ensure that our facility will continue to be “Best in Class” in the DFW area. The New Member Orientations continue to be well attended and the club staff does an incredible job of sharing about all of the venues and activities of our club. The enthusiasm of our new members will continue to enhance the personality of our club as they get fully integrated. We are truly blessed to continue to attract such high-quality new members. The Cure for All Seasons charity events will be kicking off shortly and we are excited to support the Baylor Scott & White Healthcare Foundation again this year. Our club has been the largest donor to this organization and we thank you in advance for your charitable support. All of committees continue to advance all of their goals this year along with our Board. Across the board, Enhancing the Member Experience and Member Participation are the key areas of focus. The leadership from the committee chairs is exceptional and we would welcome any of our members who are interested in being part of a committee, to please let us know. Have a terrific Summer!

De a r Fou r Se a sons G ol f
and
Sports Club Members,
UMMER IS AN EXCITING TIME AT YOUR CLUB. The pool facilities are now open, many Member tournaments fire up on the courses and courts, and our busy Club activities schedule begins to blossom. Please review the Club Events emails and make sure you are checking the event calendar on the member website as the best way to stay informed and get signed up for all the exciting activities your Club has to offer! What better time than summer to get the kids to the golf course or the tennis court to learn the game or improve their skills? Golf and tennis create opportunities for juniors to spend time with family and friends, compete, learn etiquette and sportsmanship, and mostly have a good time. We take great pride in helping lead the industry in growing the game of golf and tennis by partnering with organizations such as the PGA of America, the ATP and the PGA Tour. Our world-class PGA golf professionals and ATP tennis professionals lead the efforts by offering outstanding junior golf instruction, hosting weekly summer kids camps, and overseeing numerous junior golf and tennis programs. Please consider getting your kids involved in our junior golf and tennis programs this summer. During the summer months, the golf course agronomic team gets really busy, that being said I want to take this opportunity to thank Anthony Williams and our entire grounds crew for the amazing course conditions. Please help keep your golf courses in the best condition this summer by fixing ball marks and filling those divots. The best thing about being a member at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club is making friends and memories that last a lifetime. With a full, year-long calendar of dining, entertainment, golf, social, and family activities, we strive for the Club to be your home away from home. We encourage you to share your Club experience and invite your family and friends to join you at the Club this summer and participate in the many activities we offer.
See you at the Club,
Jim Kern, PGA General Manager

W
Welcome to summer golf in North Texas.
The temperatures may be warming up, but we do not expect to see our Membership’s golf activity cooling down anytime soon. As we transition from April showers and May flowers into the sustained higher temperatures associated with July, August, and September, we thought it would be a good time to provide some helpful feedback for keeping cool, and doing our part as golfers to maintain the health of the courses.
Let us start by setting our golf course style to cool. Lighter colors made out of a more breathable fabric easily trump the 100% cotton shirts of yesteryear. Many manufactures now incorporate sun-blocking materials into their garments that sport upwards of an SPF rating of 50uv protection. Do not forget your headwear. Larger brimmed “bucket style” hats are best, but utilizing some form of headwear is necessary. One thing a lot of us forget to do is apply sunblock. If you do not like the lotions, get a nice spray that you can keep in your bag and reapply throughout the round. Most sunbathers spend less time on a beach than we do on a golf course for a typical round, so re-applying is a must. Do not play on an empty stomach. Try to eat a light meal prior to teeing off, or snack on granola/nutrition bars during play. Lastly, and probably most important, is make sure you hydrate properly. Plan to play golf tomorrow, make certain and drink plenty of water or sports drinks the day before. It is difficult to stay properly hydrated during your round, as you are losing as much or more fluids during play than you can consume.
By Mike Kiesling, Director of Golf
As we move into early summer, it becomes imperative that we, as golfers, make an overt effort to repair ball marks on the greens. The greens will begin to face the stresses of Mother Nature, as she raises the temperature and turns off the rain. Besides making for a bumpy putting surface, an unrepaired ball mark is an open door for the diseases and fungal growth that can spread from that one simple dimple in a green. The golf course is part of our family, and we as golfers need to do what we can to keep it heathy. Our golf operations teams will also be on both courses hydrating and cooling our putting surfaces for the better part of the entire day. These irrigation teams own the “right of way.” When you encounter a group of our irrigation tech services, putting surface play is suspended on that hole until they finish their job. They are generally done in five minutes or less and groups will at most encounter this once or twice during their rounds.
rgolf
You are never too young to learn, or exhibit proper care for the course etiquette. Member Kennedy Zahn, and friend, Bella Caputto, took it upon themselves to look after holes #1 and #2 on the Cottonwood Valley Course. Kennedy and Bella can be seen cleaning up the water hazard and clogged drainage after heavy rains. Thank you, ladies, for your efforts. Summer is a great time to get your games in shape for the 2021 Club Championship Weekend scheduled for September 24 – 25. Last year we were restricted by state and local guidelines that prevented us from celebrating this event the way we should. We are excited for this event, and look forward to crowning our newest club champions.

PIVOT? And since these movements form the basis of your swing, these bad habits make any other improvements difficult. Here is a simple drill to help correct your pivot.
Place a golf club across your chest, with each hand touching the opposite shoulder as you stand in your golf posture. Keep your arms in this position throughout the drill.
S t ep 3
Shift into your right foot allowing your trail knee to lose some flexion. Turn your shoulders to your right (if you’re righthanded) allowing the club head to turn over your right foot. Your upper body should remain centered but in a tilt. Your left knee will bend toward the center of your stance.
Downswing will start with a shift in pressure to the lead foot as the shoulders will remain passive. The lower body will start to unwind as the grip of the club will start to point at the golf ball at impact.

Although it’s a fairly simple movement, most weekend players continue to struggle with their backswing pivot. Once they pivot incorrectly, it’s difficult to uncoil properly during their downswing.
Finish balanced and on your lead foot after the you completed your swing. • LIFEstyle M AGA ZINE

Movements for Golf
By Josh Biard, Athletic Manager
TRAP BAR DEADLIFT A trap bar deadlift is a deadlift performed with a hexagonal weight bar, which can be found at most gyms. •Stand in the center of a trap bar with your feet hip-width apart. •Bend your hips and knees, reach down and grasp the handles of the trap bar. •Flatten your back while keeping your chest high and shoulders pulled back.
•While keeping your core very tight, stand up leading with your hips before your knees. Keep your back flat and core tight.
LATERAL BOX JUMPS
•While staying controlled, lower the trap bar back to the ground and prepare for the next rep.
• Squat down and explode up laterally onto the box while at the same time rotating your body to land on the box facing forward.
Make sure that you take time between reps to ensure proper form and choose a weight that allows for an explosive movement. Perform 4 sets of 10-12 reps.
•Push your hips back until feel tension in your hamstrings. 14

• Stand to the side of the plyometric box with feet shoulder width apart.
GOLF IS A POWER SPORT. It requires the golfer to move explosively in order to drive the ball as far as possible down the fairway. Like training for other sports, it is important to train for the unique needs of golf by incorporating movements and specifics exercises that directly affect performance. Sprinters train for speed, distance runners train to increase stamina and golfers should train to maximize explosiveness. High tech equipment and better form can help increase clubhead speed, but your body’s ability to move explosively is what will ultimately extend your drive distance. Developing that explosiveness is dependent on your ability to generate force quickly, which can be improved within the neuromuscular system through plyometric and power exercises. In addition to helping your power game, the following leg exercises will increase hip stability, improve balance and build a strong foundation that will provide a solid base for your swing. By Mike Kiesling, Director of Golf
FRONT JUMP SQUATS • Step off the box and return to the starting position facing the opposite direction. •Perform 4 sets of 10-12 reps.
•Can be completed with an Olympic bar or a golf club. •Cross your arms in front of you and place your hands on top of the barbell or club above. Raise your elbows up until your upper arms are parallel to the ground. The barbell or club should sit across the front side of your shoulders close to your neck. THESPORTSCLU BFOU RSE A SONS.COM
•Stand with legs shoulder width apart and feet pointed straight ahead. •While keeping knees in line with toes and core tight, lower into a squat. •Explode up as high as possible. •Land softly and return to the starting position. •Perform 4 sets of 8-12 reps. 15

JUNIOR TENNIS
Don’t Just Be a Tennis Player, Be an Athlete! MANY PARENTS and junior athletes think that
in order to best succeed in any sport, they need to focus all their time dedicating it to that one specific sport. This isn’t necessarily true. The By Jason Abante, idea that a junior Tennis Coordinator tennis player needs to stick to tennis and only tennis doesn’t have to be a rule that kids need to follow. I’ve had tennis students (and great ones at that!) that are not only tennis players, but are involved in other organized sports and activities such as basketball, hockey, football, lacrosse, golf, ballet, and many more. I actually encourage this type of involvement. Kids can learn and apply different motor skills in tennis that they’ve picked up in different sports. A young tennis player that also plays soccer regularly has the potential for fantastic footwork on the court. A Little League baseball or softball player who can hit a 70-mph fastball up the middle will have a good chance of returning a first serve on to the middle of the court. A child who does karate may have incredible balance and body control on the court and, of course, if they can break a wooden board with their bear hands I’d love to see that same power with a racquet in their hands! Even for a child who plays the trumpet or loves to paint – I’d love to see their creativity with their rallies and shot making abilities. The point is, involve your children in as much activities as they can. If in the end they don’t even pick tennis as their main sport or activity, that is totally fine. Because I know that they will take something from tennis and apply it to their future sport, activity, their profession, and their lives.
JUNIOR TENNIS
Bring your little ones out to the Sports Club for some Junior Tennis! In this program, your children will learn basic tennis technique, the rules of the game, the importance of staying active, and sportsmanship, all while growing a love and passion for the game! We have three different age groups (ages 4-6; 7-9; 10 and up) where they will fit in and learn each skill set appropriately. We utilize the Quickstart USTA method that allows our juniors to play the game and learn in accelerated fashion. So come on down with your future stars and check it out!
