FROM THE

BOG Chairman

F O U R S E A S O N S G O L F & S P O R T S C L U B C O M M U N I T Y,

WANT TO THANK our entire membership and the Board of Governor’s for their trust and support over the past two years. In December, a new Board Chair will take over. I have enjoyed my time as Chair. It has been filled with exciting and challenging times. It has been a challenge that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I also want to thank our GM, Jim Kern. He works tirelessly to help improve the value of our membership. This Fall should bring some cooler temperatures which will be ideal for evenings on the Member’s Lounge Patio, tennis and golf. We will have our second State of the Club Address in November. The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the status of the club, management and ownership plans for member value and take any questions you may have regarding the direction of the club. Enjoy the rest of the year and once again, thank you for allowing me the honor of being your Board Chairman over the past two years. Joshua Weiss Board of Governors Chair

FROM THE

General Manager

De a r Fou r Se a sons G ol f

and

Sports Club Members,

UMMER IS AN EXCITING TIME AT YOUR CLUB. The pool facilities are in full swing, many Member tournaments fire up on the courses and courts, and our busy Club activities schedule begins to blossom. Please review the weekly watch and make sure you have the private Club APP downloaded as the best way to stay informed and get signed up for all the exciting activities your Club has to offer! What better time to get the kids to the golf course to learn the game or improve their skills? Golf creates opportunities for juniors to spend time with family and friends, compete, learn etiquette and sportsmanship, and mostly have a good time. We take great pride in helping lead the industry in growing the game of golf and tennis by partnering with organizations such as the PGA of America, the ATP and the PGA Tour. Our world-class PGA golf professionals and ATP tennis professionals lead the efforts by offering outstanding junior golf instruction, hosting weekly summer kids camps, and overseeing numerous junior golf and tennis programs. Please consider getting your kids involved in our junior golf and tennis programs this summer. During the summer months, the golf course agronomic team gets really busy, that being said I want to take this opportunity to thank Anthony Williams and our entire grounds crew for the amazing course conditions. Please help keep your golf courses in the best condition this summer by fixing ball marks and filling those divots. The best thing about being a member at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club is making friends and memories that last a lifetime. With a full, year-long calendar of dining, entertainment, golf, social, and family activities, we strive for the Club to be your home away from home. We encourage you to share your Club experience and invite your family and friends to join you at the Club this summer and participate in the many activities we offer.

See you at the Club, Jim Kern, PGA General Manager

Golf

Playing out of the rough

By Tim Cusick, PGA

Director of Golf Instruction

The bermuda grass is almost back and the golf courses are in pristine condition. This also means the rough is up. When

you find your ball in the rough, you’ll need to make a few adjustments. Place the ball slightly back in your stance, grip the club firmer and make more of a descending blow on the golf ball. These adjustments are necessary to get the proper angle into the ball at impact and to avoid having the club turn in your hand as well as getting too much grass caught in between the ball and the club face. Proper execution will allow for more solid contact and will help to keep the clubface square through impact.

JUNIOR GOLF

PGA JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE

PGA Junior League Golf is a BIG HIT for the kids and the parents By Jack Daneshmand PGA Head Golf Instructor/Junior Golf Coordinator

CAMP FOUR SEASONS JUNIOR GOLF CAMPS Our 4-day Golf or Tennis Camps are fantastic for juniors to learn etiquette, rules and proper technique in their sports. Each day’s activities progress to the final day that will include awards and certificates. Kids are provided with a healthy lunch and can cool off and play at the end of each camp day in the Family Pool!

IN THE SPRING, the Four Seasons Eagles teamed up with Gleneagles Country Club and Lakewood Country Club to form a league. Each team played a home and an away match against each of the two teams. PGA Junior League Golf (JLG) is a team-based league where kids play a two-person scramble against an opponent. In the 9-hole match, three flags are given out (holes 1-3, 4-6, 7-9) to determine the winner of the group. The team with the most flags wins the overall match. The Eagles won both home matches, and they fought hard even though they did not win the away matches. PGA JLG is a great way to get anyone who has interest in the game of golf more course experience in a fun enjoyable format. PGA JLG has SCHEDULE FOR REMAINDER OF THE YEAR been a big hit at the Club for the August 17 & 18 | 1 pm - Junior Club Championship kids, as well as the parents. Tennis TIPS FROM THE PROS

Return of Serve

Hip Turn First

When facing a strong server with a very fast serve, remember

The Ball Toss on the Serve

A consistent ball toss will improve the most important stroke in the game – the serve. High enough to promote a fully extended arm at contact and in front of you for maximum power are the key elements to a good ball toss.

to turn your hips first in order to set the racquet in the best place possible to be able to meet the incoming ball in front. Time is limited so movement needs to be efficient and racquet work reduced. Turn your hips first! It’s the first step toward a successful return of a fast serve!

DOUG ANDRING IS

Member Profile

ONE OF THE MOST

ACTIVE TENNIS MEMBERS AT FOUR SEASONS!

MEET DOUG ANDRING

He’s the captain of a USTA team, as well as a member of the Tennis Committee. Doug and his wife Marti will rarely miss an event, from participating in Happy Hours or competing in all the Club Championships throughout the year. Doubles/ Singles/ Mixed doubles!

FS When did you start playing tennis and how long have you been a member at Four Seasons? DA I started playing tennis about

10 years ago when my wife Marti took up the sport - so I thought it would be better to learn and play with her than be a tennis spectator. I taught her to play golf and she taught me to play tennis, and we still enjoy both sports - however tennis has become our real focus. Marti and I have been members of the club for about 2 ½ years and really enjoy the tennis community that exists at Four Seasons. We have become friends with so many great people since joining.

FS What is your favorite aspect about tennis? What is your favorite activity at the club? DA To me tennis is the perfect sport

because you can play at so many different levels with such a variety of people at almost any time of the day and any day of the year - especially here in Texas. I grew up in North Dakota and I love to tell my friends that I’ve just finished an outdoors tennis match in December. You can make tennis a terrific workout or treat it as a social event and enjoy them both equally. Other than playing tennis at the club I also like to work out and try to stay in “sort of” shape. I love the rowing machine and complete my workout with a sauna and cold plunge.

FS You’re the captain of the men’s USTA 4.0 team. Let us know more about that! DA After joining Four Seasons, I

continued to play USTA tennis at my old club because there was not a team here which after talking with Carlos Lopez we decided to get a team together here. Carlos did the ground work, we both “recruited”, and we are now in our 2nd season with the Tarrant County 4.0 USTA organization. What’s fun is that we have grown the team to about 20 players. Our #1 goal is to have fun (which we have accomplished) and #2 is to win. I’m proud to say that in our 2nd season we have just qualified for the Spring Season Playoffs.

FS What word of advice do you have for new members coming to the club? DA My advice would be to explore things

that you might not initially think would be “fun”. There is so much to offer in so many areas. Tennis has become more important to me since joining, and it’s because of the great people like Jerome who enable people to grow in that sport. I would say “Try it - you might like it” as it pertains to tennis or pickle-ball or just generally getting in shape.

FS Hopes/goals/thoughts as a Tennis Committee member? DA Being on the Tennis Committee has

allowed me to gain relationships that provide insight into the world of Four Seasons Tennis and a voice to how the tennis experience can be better. We spend a lot of time on how we can make things better - physically and socially - and to keep members happy and bring in new members. A goal of mine would be to continue the efforts of this group led by Lisa Croley in making Four Seasons the best place to play tennis in the DFW area. Where when you tell other tennis people that you play tennis at Four Seasons they say “WOW I wish I played there”!

On The Move Meet Ginger Holland

Membership Type: I am currently a Fitness Member. Member Since: My husband and I have been members since 2016. Spouse: My family and I enjoy a variety of aspects at the Club! My husband is Ben Holland. He enjoys working out in the Fitness area, and playing golf when his schedule permits. Our daughter, Eleanor is four years old and loves spending time in Kids For All Seasons. She enjoys the amazing crafts and activities that Jill, the Director, plans for the kids. Eleanor has also enjoyed taking swim lessons at the club the past couple of years and looks

forward to the day she can join the swim team. She was also excited for the opportunity to get involved in the tennis program after her fourth birthday and is excited to participate in the tennis camp.

Reason for Exercising: For the health benefits such as lower blood pressure, stronger bones, muscles and joints, and weight management/loss to name a few. Consistent exercise for me provides improvement in mood as well as increased energy levels. Increased energy levels are definitely needed and important as a parent of an active 4 year old!

Committee Member and Duration: I serve as a member of the Fitness Committee and have so since January 2019. It has been wonderful working with fellow committee members to set and achieve goals that will better and continue to improve our Club facility. I really enjoy our exciting events such as the Global Wellness Day, and our Member/Guest Fitness Event that involves a collaboration among several committees and benefits students in Irving schools.

Favorite Type or Current Routine: I enjoy and participate in a variety of exercise and classes. On any given day you might find me working out in a Spin Class, Total Body Conditioning, Peak Performance, or a Barre Blast class. I also began small group training with Ayo in August and have enjoyed the rigorous workouts, the fun and accountability of working with a small group and trainer, as well as learned a lot about weight training. Favorite Area/Equipment in the Fitness Center: I really enjoy the weight training area of the gym however, the Peloton is becoming a fast favorite! Tips for Others Who Workout: The biggest tip I have for those working out is to make sure to properly stretch before and after. Stretching helps warm the body up prior to exercising, thus decreasing the possibility of injury or muscle soreness.

DR. AMANDA KAYSER IS AN MVP IN MY EYES.

She is a valuable asset to the Club, but more importantly, a one of a kind asset to our Members and their families. Amanda is a “healer”. My comments are based on an experience recently. Here is the background and detail:

worked on issues & exercises for balance, proper stepping technique, quad and hamstring strengthening, upper body strength and coordination. All these are linked to reprogramming John’s brain. His neurologic disorder short circuits the brain’s signal to his legs when he attempts to walk. Her efforts are aimed at helping John overcome that short circuit.

I have a 52-year-old nephew, John, who has been struggling for the The results so far have been very impressive and promising. John’s continuous Drop past 14 years with a debilitating and progressively worsening Foot on his left leg had left a hole in the sole of his shoe where his big toe rests. Over that time period, he has gone to Dr. Amanda Kayser Boston’s finest hospitals for diagnosis to find out He has a much-improved sense of balance and now knows how he should PT, DPT, NCS Dr. Kayser be reacting when he has balance issues in order to prevent falls. exactly what is causing this. For most of that time providing therapy he went undiagnosed. Six years ago, two specialists diagnosed him John told me that Dr. Amanda was the first doctor or therapist who really to patient with Spastic Paraplegia. There is no cure and therapists he has seen understood his condition. As an example, over the years, John had been have been ineffective. His condition has worsened to where he has told to do Abductor and adductor exercises to strengthen his hip to help considerable foot drop in one leg because when he attempts to walk him walk. While Dr. Amanda told John that abductor and adductor his muscles tighten and prevents him from stepping properly. The exercises were good, it’s the Hip Flexor muscles and exercises she showed resulting foot drop causes balance issues, muscle weakness and the him that were actually the key to helping lift his leg to avoid Drop Foot tendency to fall. One fall recently resulted in knocking John out and and, in its place, strike a heel to toe step. having a considerable number of stitches in his head. As a family, his wife and children, I can’t say enough about how impressive Dr. Amanda is. Her knowledge, dedication, his sisters, my brother and I, all felt helpless. patient empathy, bedside manner, professionalism, caring is First Class—and that’s Some weeks ago I noticed Dr. Amanda working with a Parkinson’s patient and getting only the tip of the iceberg! John knows that his condition can’t be cured. But its results. There were similarities with some of John’s issues. I spoke with Dr. Armanda. progress can be slowed, and he can have more mobility. Dr. Amanda has given John a She studied his condition and said she thought she could help John improve his quality roadmap and the motivation to do just that. She has given him HOPE.
