Golf Tip

Consistent Swings By Tim Cusick, PGA

Director of Golf Instruction

A

SYMMETRICAL SWING IS A CONSISTENT SWING. Consistency is what most golfers lack. Use your shoulders as checkpoints in the golf swing to make your swing more symmetrical. Practice swinging over your back shoulder in the backswing and over your front shoulder in the finish. These checkpoints will give you the correct amount of “in and up” motion that you need

in your golf swing. Swinging over your shoulders also helps you achieve the correct length of your swing. Grooving this swing motion will allow you to be more consistent with your contact, trajectory and distance control. Overall, you will become a more consistent golfer. 8

Golf Tim Cusick of Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas attains highest PGA educational designation PGA Director of Golf Instruction at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas has achieved PGA Master Professional status, the highest educational level attainable by PGA professionals THE TEAM at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas is proud to announce that PGA Director of Golf Instruction Tim Cusick has recently achieved the sought-after title of PGA Master Professional status. Cusick graduated from the PGA Master Professional Program 2.0 with a focus in Teaching and Coaching, making him only the third golf instructor in Dallas with the Master Professional title and the eighth in the state of Texas. With more than 25 years in the PGA and 13 years with the Resort, Cusick has overseen an operation unlike many golf facilities. He provides instruction for many visiting golfers from all over the world - Four Seasons Golf & Sports Club private members, hotel guests and other golf instructors - on either one of the Resort’s two 18-hole golf courses. Cusick’s lifelong passion for the game has led to his recognition as a world-renowned golf instructor, an achievement not easily obtained. “Instructing is a special skill, really. Like in the medical profession: there are general practitioners and specialists. I’m a specialist," says Cusick. Cusick, a member of the PGA for more than a quarter of a century, has far surpassed the

PGA master professionals program requirement of being an active member for at least 8 years. Once a member has reached this requirement, the candidate must complete a literature review and written project approved by the Master Professional Project review and evaluation team. This project allows the candidate to display their professional mastery in whichever focus they have chosen. In Cusick’s case, he provided a physical demonstration due to his focus on teaching and coaching. Cusick’s dedication to improving the skills of those he teaches is what led him to pursue reaching this PGA status. “I encourage my students to do all they can to reach their highest potential in the game. I knew that graduating from this program would further equip me with the skills needed to help them do so," says Cusick. In addition to this remarkable achievement, Cusick has much to be proud of in his teaching history. Not only is he a three-time North Texas PGA Teacher of the Year, Cusick is also ranked as a Golf Digest Top Teacher winner in the state of Texas since 2011. With a focus on the future, Cusick manages an extensive junior golf program, seeing more than 125 juniors secure college golf scholarships and watching former students go on to win on all major professional golf tours around the world. He is a true testament to helping others succeed in the game of golf. Tim Cusick is available for private golf instruction for Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club members. TIPS FROM THE PROS

Trouble with your serve?

Here are a few quick tips to make your serve more formidable By John Mullman, Tennis Professional

One Relax your grip on the racquet.

Move your hand down on the end of the racquet to create more head speed and snap.

Two Toss the ball out in front of you at 1pm for right-handers and 11am for lefties.

Three Use a throwing motion very similar to a quarterback or baseball pitcher’s throw.

Use these simple concepts to keep improving your serve and enhance your game!

The Backhand Slice By Jerome Millet, Head Tennis Professional

Keep your hands loose on the grip and trust the “carry” of the ball for a more effective backhand slice. Avoid “chopping down” and let the racquet work straight through contact and out to the target!

Fitness

Effective Office Workouts THE KEY TO AN EFFECTIVE FITNESS PROGRAM within your office is the same as any other fitness regimen:

ensure that you are working each body group. To help achieve this, keep a variety of resistance bands handy at your desk. This will enable you to perform an endless amount of exercises in a very confined space.

14

F A L L / W I N T E R 2 0 18

• LIFEstyle M AGA ZINE

JOSH BIARD Athletic Performance Manager

Fitness Member Profile FULL BODY: Squat to Press

Stand in the center of the band with toes straight and feet shoulderwidth apart. With palms facing away, hold the resistance band handles at shoulder height. Keeping the band handles near shoulders and body weight centered, squat deeply. As you return to an upright position, press your arms directly overhead until fully extended. Return to the starting position and repeat for 15-20 reps.

UPPER BACK: Reverse Band Fly

Hold the resistance band with your hands about shoulder-width apart. Raise your arms straight out in front of you to mid-chest height. While keeping elbows locked, pull your arms out to your sides, stretching the band to your chest. Squeeze your shoulder blades together for 2 seconds, then return to the starting point. Repeat for 12-15 reps.

CHEST: Office Chair Chest Press

While seated in your office chair, wrap a resistance band around the back of the chair and grip both handles at shoulder height (your thumbs should touch the front of your shoulders). Keeping the bands parallel to the ground, extend your arms straight forward until a full range of motion is reached. Bring back to the starting point and repeat for 12-15 reps.

HAMSTRINGS AND GLUTES: Glute Bridge

Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent at a 90° angle. Raise your hips off the ground until your shoulders, hips and knees align. Finish the movement by contracting your glutes and holding in the up position for 5 seconds. To make this movement more challenging, tie a band around your legs right above the knees. Complete 15-20 reps.

TRICEPS: Overhead Tricep Extension

Sit in your office chair with the center of your resistance band directly under your glutes. Grabbing a handle in each hand, and keeping the band behind your back, bend your elbows until they are pointing toward the ceiling and your hands are behind your neck. Making sure that your upper arms stay stationary, straighten your arms and push the band handles toward the ceiling. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat for 12-15 reps.

Meet Keith Rosenkranz

Keith Rosenkranz has been a member of the Club since December 2007. He is a former U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter pilot and combat veteran of the 1991 Gulf War and is currently an A321 captain for Delta Air Lines.

Keith recently shared more about his experience at the Club. “My main goal for joining the Club was to enjoy the two beautiful golf courses on the property. Given the fact it was cold and icy the month I joined, I thought I might as well take advantage of the beautiful fitness center and indoor pool to get in shape. When I started, I couldn’t swim eight lengths of the pool without hanging on the side to rest; I hadn’t ridden a bike in 20 years; and the first time I ran a mile on the treadmill was a major struggle. Fast forward 11 years and I’ve completed 12 Half Ironman triathlon races, 6 full Ironman races, 10 marathons, and I just climbed to the summit of Mt. Rainier in Washington, which stands at 14,410 ft. I owe a great deal of my fitness success to Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club and its incredible staff.” Keith typically flies about 13 days a month, but when he is home in Dallas, he makes it a point to spend time at the Club almost daily. He calls it his “little slice of heaven.” Reason for exercising: Making fitness a priority is the key to a long, healthy life. Our Sports Club has everything one needs to build an everlasting foundation of fitness. I can’t imagine ever going back to the couch and a sedentary lifestyle again. Favorite routine: My favorite routine is what I call my “ultimate workout.” It consists of the following: Weights - 30 minutes; Stairmaster - 30 minutes; Rowing Machine - 30 minutes; Spin Bike - 30 minutes; a 5-mile run; Stretch & Yoga - 30 minutes; and Swim 30 minutes. Tip for others: You don’t have to compete in Ironman triathlons, marathons, or climb mountains to achieve the level of fitness that’s right for you. Set high goals for yourself; work hard to achieve them, and over time you will discover a healthier, better you.

Chef’s Corner

F

OR THE PAST 19 YEARS, Chef Ozzie has been creating authentic, international cuisines for the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas. Born and raised in Comonfort, Guanajuato, a small town in Mexico, he came to the United States and started his career in the restaurant industry as a dishwasher. It was through that experience that Chef Ozzie found his love in cooking. No stranger to hard work, he then pursued a life “behind the line,” working his way up over the years to become a chef at our beautiful Resort and Club. Chef Ozzie has earned the title of “The Chili King” for three consecutive years at the Four Seasons Resort and Club. He has also been recognized as the chef de cuisine in the Members Lounge, where he oversees all the kitchen activities from nightly service to the wonderful monthly events that our members have come to know and love. Ozzie is a perfectionist as shown throughout his tenure with us – he will not let dishes leave the kitchen until they are impeccable.

CHEF OSBALDO JORDAN, “OZZIE”

When Chef Ozzie is not working, he enjoys trying new foods and taking long walks with his wife, Lily. He also enjoys watching movies and spending time with his two daughters and one-year-old grandson. Ultimately, Chef Ozzie hopes to pass his knowledge and work ethic on to the next generation, and that is something truly special.

“Zarandeado” Snapper

CURRENTLY FEATURED ON OUR NEW MEMBERS LOUNGE MENU. Literally translated as shaken, meaning sautéed in a pan. I love the simplicity of the dish, combined with the bold flavors of the guajillo. I hope you enjoy cooking this dish as much as I do. Disfrute de su comida!
