FROM THE

General Manager

H

Dear Members, APPY NEW YEAR! I’m confident our future at the Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club has never

been brighter and I hope you are as excited about 2019 as I am. For almost four decades our Club has enjoyed a storied, multi-generational history, and this living legacy will continue to grow. In that spirit, we are working hard to continually adapt Club programs and products to the evolving and

diverse interest and trends of our growing membership. We have implemented many updates to programs, services and amenities that fit members’ interests and feedback. The overall member experience has become the most multi-dimensional offering of any Club in the DFW metroplex. Our goal has always been to become “The Most Admired Club in Dallas.” Based on the fact that we will achieve “Full with a Wait List” status in the Golf category this year, along with the overall growth in membership and incredible feedback we are getting from our members and community, we are on track to accomplish just that.

So, what’s in store for the year ahead? Here are a few things to look forward to: First and foremost, we are transitioning to a new owner of the Resort and Club in 2019, Extell Development Company. Extell was founded by Mr. Gary Barnett and his company is the largest residential developer in New York City. Extell is very familiar with Four Seasons and also owns Four Seasons Vail. Mr. Barnett is a true visionary and we are excited about working with his company to develop long-term strategies for the Resort and Club. We are particularly excited about our re-invention of Cool October into our new year-round program Cure Four All Seasons (CFAS). CFAS is our primary community effort to support cancer research and care at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving, which we know has impacted the lives of many of our members, employees, and families. This new program will incorporate fundraising efforts throughout the year and the messaging will be included at many of our member events in the coming year. I would like to congratulate Dr. Josh Weiss, as he was unanimously elected to his second year as your Board Chairman. Josh has done an outstanding job working with me and my team to grow the Club and lead the Board of Governors in making the best decisions and recommendations for the Club. He was also recently recognized as one of the Top Private Club Board Chairman in the country by BoardRoom magazine! We are fortunate to have volunteers like Josh and all of your Board members and committees that work hard to shape the future of your Club. Please reach out to a Board member if you are interested in serving in your Club governance. Looking forward to a great 2019 at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club, Jim Kern, PGA General Manager THESPORTSCLU BFOU RSE A SONS.COM

JUNIOR RYDER CUP

Golf This year’s Junior Ryder Cup had 14 players led by captains Jack Daneshmand and Sean Speed. The matches were very close and came down to the final match with Sean defeating Jack to win the cup for Team Black!

JUNIOR GOLF

Improved physical activity builds a solid foundation for Junior Golfers

2018 PARENT CHILD TOURNAMENT 18 Hole Division 1st Place - Henry Guan and Joe Harris 2nd Place - Jahan and Faisal Syed 9 Hole Division 1st Place - Jimmy Nackley and Rafal Chan 2nd Place - Jackson and Reid Beucler 3rd Place - Walker and Marcus Conroy

By Jack Daneshmand

With young kids, it is very important to have some sort of physical activity each day. It’s essential to understand that all young students need to be exposed to the four types of Fundamental Movement Skills to gain a proper foundation to develop the necessary coordination, speed, body awareness and control objects while performing any specific motion. Four Types of Fundamental Movement Skills: Walk: on your toes / on your heels fast-slow / short and long steps Run: jog / sprint / slow-fast change of direction ABCs: skipping forward and backwards, galloping, sliding Balance: run, stop and pose game using 1, 2, or 3-point stances I like to check these skills with games. Tag games are effective in demonstrating and improving spatial awareness, kinesthetic awareness and body awareness. They also are a great tool for observation. You will see how kids are grasping and applying these essential movements. This is a key element for understanding how well they process information and put it in to action.

12

We are excited to host the 3rd annual Drive, Chip and Putt event at Four Seasons! Last year we had 40 of our junior members participate in the skills challenge, and member Dylan Knox made it to the championship in Augusta! This event is a great opportunity for juniors thinking about competing in the local qualifiers in the DFW area.

JUNIOR TENNIS

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Make Contact in Front By John Mullman, Tennis Professional

When hitting volleys at the net, concentrate on keeping your hands in front of you to promote contact in front of your body. You will dramatically increase your chances of hitting the ball clean and placing it with a lot more precision!

Drop it Wisely

By Jerome Millet, Head Tennis Professional

To hit an effective dropshot, court position, disguise and soft touch are all critical.

COURT POSITION Attempt dropshots from inside the baseline so the ball flight is shorter. DISGUISE Make it look like you’re about to drive the ball with pace to disguise your attempt and surprise your opponent. SOFT TOUCH Finally, use soft hands on the grip to drop your shot delicately on the other side!

JUNIOR TENNIS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM In our Junior Tennis Program utilizing the USTA QuickStart method, your children will learn basic tennis technique, rules of the game, sportsmanship and the importance of staying active, all while growing a love and passion for the game of tennis! Fitness TRANSFORMING SOCIET Y BY OPTIMIZING MOVEMENT TO IMPROVE THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE. American Physical Therapy Association – Vision Statement

Physical therapy has evolved over the years.

Although the goal has always been focused on individualized patient care, different factors have put limitations on healthcare providers’ ability to spend quality, one-on-one time with their patients and clients. Early in my career, I became frustrated with the cookie cutter model of physical therapy.

began my journey into physical therapy with the idea of working in sports. I chose to attend a graduate school that focused highly on manual therapy and orthopedics to facilitate this pathway. Quickly, I began to learn that physical therapy entailed so much more than athletic and post-operative rehabilitation. My pathway veered into the world of neurologic physical therapy, diving into the neuromuscular system and how the brain dictates movement capabilities. I headed off to Pittsburgh in pursuit of a neurologic

a physical point of view, in a setting where I can offer holistic care and where high value is placed upon health and living a life with minimal constraints. As a physical therapist, I choose to treat people, not just their musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. My goals for my clients are activity focused. Sure, you may need to work on improved strength or range of motion, but the reason for these improvements are to create a more effective golf swing, have the ability to play with your children or grandchildren, enhance your agility

After all of this training and reflection on how I want to impact the lives of those I work with, it became simple: “Optimize movement.” I wanted to create an opportunity to help people improve their lives through movement, whether that be to decrease pain, get back to activities they love, improve their health and fitness, or fight progressing disease. I am grateful that my journey has led me to Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club. Here, I get to be part of a team that wants to see you live life to its fullest. In this setting, I get to take it back to the basics of quality care, with one-on-one time spent to improve the human experience.

Meet Colleen Christl 2019 Fitness Committee Chair Member since 2017

Hopes/Goals/Thoughts as Fitness Committee Chair: The Fitness Center within Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club is unique in that it’s a space utilized by all membership types at our Club. Whether your interest is tennis, golf, or social and fitness, everyone has access to this facility, and we all meet and cross paths in the gym. The fitness center is staffed with wonderful employees eager to get to know you and aid in helping you achieve your fitness goals. From the fitness reception staff making sure your overall experience in the gym is 5-star quality, to the seasoned trainers available to help you meet your fitness goals, to the management staff that works tirelessly to make this the premier fitness center in North Texas, they are all working towards one common goal— to give you the ultimate Four Seasons experience. If you’re not familiar with the athletic facilities at the Club, please come check them out— and be sure to indulge in that Four Seasons hospitality afterwards by grabbing a scented cold towel! Reason for exercising: Simply put— exercise makes me happy! It’s a few hours in the day where I focus on myself and have quiet time to think and reflect, and it puts me in a great mood. The long list of health benefits is pretty motivating, as well. 18

Favorite type or current routine: My current weekly routine consists of both weight training and core strength exercise, with a little added cardio. On days that I’m not weight training, I enjoy making it to a class or two. The extensive list of classes offered at our Club provides so much variety. I find the classes can help push me out of my comfort zone, whether it’s by using different equipment or working at a quicker pace than I’m used to. The expertise of our trainers is invaluable, and I really enjoy the group exercise and training offered by them. Favorite area/equipment in the fitness center: With all the great spaces our fitness center has to offer, I have a hard time picking just one. Our main gym has a lot of great equipment for weight training, while the Functional Training area is ideal for my core strength workouts. There are so many pieces of equipment in Functional Training that can really help take your workouts to the next level. I really appreciate how diligently our fitness staff works to thoughtfully equip all of our fitness areas.

Tips for others who work out: Listen to your body! If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. If necessary, don’t hesitate to seek help from a professional who can help you get back on track and stronger than before. With services like physical therapy and Fitness massage, Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club has Member really become a one stop Profile shop for wellness. By receiving sports related therapy on a regular basis both for maintenance and injury prevention, I’m enabling my body to operate at its fullest potential, and it helps me get the most out of the hard work I put in at the gym. Additional thoughts: Some of our family’s most quality time is spent working out together. My husband Steve and I introduced exercise to our kids at a young age and taught them that it’s an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, not just something you do here and there without consistency. Our son Matthew and daughter Lauren are both avid golfers and have seen great results in their golf game from consistency in the gym. We’re so thankful for the family-friendly atmosphere and all the amenities Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club has to offer because it creates such a great place for our family to enjoy that time together.
