VIRTUAL ADMIN XPRESS By: Kim Bazan

Mission Statement – At Virtual Admin Xpress, we understand that time is important to your company. We strive to help your company meet your goals and deadlines by using our time and skills to accomplish your administrative needs, whether they are large or small. Started in early 2012 by Nicole Wilson, owner, Virtual Admin Xpress will offer assistance to small businesses in Appleton, WI which will officially launch in January 2013. Nicole has earned an Administrative Professionals Associate Degree at Fox Valley Technical College and she is currently working on earning her Business Management Degree. During school, she is working as an intern in Student Employment Services. Along with her education, Nicole is also the President of Future Office Xperts, a club at FVTC, and has a couple part time jobs as well as volunteering in the community. To top everything off, she has her favorite job of all, as a mother to three year old Ellie. Even though it sounds like a busy life, she still keeps time for her daughter. Nicole would like to spend even more time with her daughter, which is very important to her so one of the main goals of Virtual Admin Xpress is to achieve that time. Nicole has always liked helping others and loves administrative type of work. She has always wanted to start a business, so this combination seemed like the obvious choice. In today and in the future, everything is moving faster and faster to being technology based. Which includes going digital in many ways. There are many reasons why that is, such as convenience; cost savings; down-sizing in staff; and the economy. A lot of companies hire temp employees through temp agencies. Through virtual assistance, work would be based on individual projects and some examples of advantages using Virtual Admin Xpress would be: work would be guaranteed per contract; no over-all training involved; no worries that someone will or will not show up, etc. Other goals of Virtual Admin Xpress is to help small business owners that to do everything themselves, like web designing, marketing, managing a database, document creations, etc., because they don’t have the resources to hire a physical assistant. A goal is to perform these tasks for them at an affordable rate. Wanting to allow them flexibility, this would allow the owners to focus on other items within their company. Virtual Admin Xpress can be hired on a project to project, monthly or hourly contract. Virtual Admin Xpress believes in building strong relationships through valued communication. Clients will meet and work with an individual assigned to their project(s) to go over their needs. Some services offered are: Database Management, Desktop Publishing, Internet Services, Secretarial Services, Mail and Email Services, Marketing Services, Resume Services, Presentations, Meeting and Event Planning, and many more. If you have any more questions about Virtual Admin Xpress and what they can do for you, such as services and prices, please contact Nicole Wilson: vaxnicole@gmail.com and please visit her website www.virtualadminxpress.com

Sharing Warmth One Cup at a Time By Lori Niemuth, Future Office Xperts Vice President Java, cup of joe, morning mud, cup of jolt, daily grind – no matter what you call it Future Office Xperts collected it for the Fox Valley Warming Shelter of Appleton. During the week of November 26-30, 2012, cans of coffee were collected from donation boxes placed throughout the Fox Valley Technical College-Appleton campus. FOX members also collected cash donations on November 26, 2012. The total amount of jitter juice that FOX collected was four cans of coffee - and one can of hot chocolate. In addition, $50 in cash donations was collected. The Fox Valley Warming Shelter provides overnight, temporary shelter to homeless adult men and women, and addresses their needs. FOX is grateful to those who generously gave to help share a little warmth one cup at a time.

FOX members who collected cash donations for the Fox Valley Warming Shelter on November 26, 2012 include (left to right): FRONT - Suzy Kratz and Kate Seefeldt; BACK Nicole Wilson and Lori Niemuth. Members who contributed to this event but not pictured are Kim Bazan, Matthew Bartelt, and Barb Scanlan.

Not a Disability, a Unique Ability By Ian Brost

“Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development. Although not required for diagnosis, physical clumsiness and atypical (peculiar, odd) use of language are frequently reported.” according to Wikipedia.com Some people think that Asperger Syndrome is a disability. I disagree.

Is a carpenter’s skill to be measured in the same way as an electrician? Does the painter consider the potter a less capable artist? Shall a surgeon consider himself superior to a pilot? No. Each has their own unique skill set for their occupation.

In the same way, Asperger Syndrome is essentially just a different skill set than that of a ‘normal’ person. This does not make me weaker than any of you. But neither does it make me stronger. It simply is. I have Asperger Syndrome, and it is not a disability. The carpenter is at a disadvantage when asked to repair electrical appliances. A dentist is not necessarily the best choice for drawing blueprints for a house. And I am at a disadvantage when trying to interact with all of you ‘normal’ people. But we all have our strengths, too. The carpenter can build a house. The dentist knows best how to care for your teeth. My strength is the ability to focus intensely on a given subject, without distraction. Employed properly, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. I am no different. I have Asperger Syndrome, and it is not a disability. 5

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month By: Deanna Culver

Throughout the year, the United States sees many lives at risk of needing blood transfusions. During the summer months, mishaps are happening when people are more active and taking more risks. However, during the holidays there seems to be more accidents on our roads and highways due to people consuming more alcoholic beverages and then drinking and driving. During the holidays, people might think they don’t have the time to donate with all the holiday rushing and stress that happens during each holiday season, but it doesn’t take much time out of a person’s day. The whole blood donation process only takes about an hour and a half. Please donate blood at a local blood donation center because thousands of lives can be saved by just one person’s willingness to donate blood.

Facts about Blood that is Needed:

1) Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood (More than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day) 2) The average red blood cell transfusion is approximately 3 pints 3) The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Blood Type O (which can be transfused to patients of all blood types) 4) More than 1 million new patients are diagnosed with cancer each year (Blood is often needed daily during their chemotherapy treatments) 5) A single car accident victim can require as much as 100 pints of blood 6) The number of blood donations collected is approx. 16 million in the United States in any given year (with about 9.5 million people donating and approx. 5 million patients that receive the blood donations) 7) Type AB-positive is considered to be universal plasma which can be transfused to patients of all other blood types (Type AB plasma is also in short supply) 8) Donated red blood cells must be used within 42 days of when it was collected 9) Donated platelets must be used within five days of when it was collected (Plasma and Cryoprecipitate are stored and frozen and can be used for up to one year of when it was collected)

Blood Donation Process:

1) A donor has to register and have a medical history and mini-physical done in order to be a candidate for blood donation 2) The process is confidential which may not be released without a person’s permission 3) The average adult has about 10 pints of blood in their body with roughly 1 pint that is given during a donation 4) A person that is healthy may donate red blood cells every 56 days 5) A healthy person may donate platelets (platelets are produced in the bone marrow) as few as 7 days apart and a maximum of 24 times in a year

12.12.12: Aaron Rodgers Day

It was a once in a lifetime day, and people statewide took part in it. Between the 12/12/12 walk, the burial of a time capsule, and the reveal of the new culinary addition, Fox Valley Technical College was filled with more events than one could keep track of. Lucky winners who went to our men’s basketball game left with various Aaron Rodgers memorabilia, including an authentic number 12 Packers jersey. FVTC was not the only ones taking part in events on this day. People all over the state of Wisconsin participated in the celebration as well. Retailers and restaurants had incredible discounts and activities. Charities statewide raised money to donate to Aaron’s favorite cause, the MACC Fund. Those who had to work were unable to take part in celebrations, so they brought the festivities to their cubicles. Green and gold decorated offices and pot-lucks were going on in many places as well. So many events, one would ask what the Aaron himself did on this honorable day. Acting as his humble self, he went to practice as if it was just another day. When he arrived he found his teammates all wearing number 12 to support their quarterback. Whether you spent the day at the tech, the mall, or at work as usual, it was fun day for all cheese heads.

Student Activities Committee – Join the Club! Ever walk past the commons for an event and see all the friendly faces in the purple shirts and wonder what is going on? The students in the purple colored shirts are members of the Fox Valley Tech Student Activities Committee (SAC) and are responsible for planning, promoting, and hosting the various entertainment around campus. This year alone SAC has hosted NBA legend John Salley (pictured above), musician Jordin Bass, hypnotist Tom Deluca, and comedian Seaton Smith. If you have an interest in being a part of the school’s entertainment and would be interested in organizing events and meeting famous people, stop down to Student Life to fill out an application. SAC is on a volunteer basis and helps to build leadership skills along with meeting some great new friends. Bring this article to next semester’s club recruitment day

Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) CLUB Many people ask, what is occupational therapy? Occupational therapy is a health profession offered to people of all ages who either are recovering from an injury, disease or illness, who have a disability or disorder that affects their quality of life, and/or those who have mental health illnesses. Occupational therapy treats the whole person, not only their diagnosis, disease disorder or illness and it mainly focuses on a person’s upper body when it comes to function, however sometimes that coincides with the lower body. OTAs work in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, sheltered workshops, mental health facilities, sports clinics and community settings such as senior centers or drop-in centers. Now that you know what occupational therapy is, the occupational therapy assistant club is made up of occupational therapy assistant students (OTAS) who are either in one of four semesters of the program, or prepping to enter the program. The club hosts meetings every other week in C141 and discusses and participates in different events and fundraisers. So far this year the club has participated in a “31” fundraising event, the WOTA Conference, Adopt-A-Family, and are now preparing to host a party for the fourth semester students who graduated this December along with the club members. Other events planned for the spring semester are training sessions for suicide prevention, a Seroogies chocolate fundraiser and possibly a few more guest speakers. Elections for new board members will also be held in the spring semester. Any questions or suggestions? Stop by the OTA Department and check us out! Until next time, OTAS, putting the fun in FUNction! Holli Lowry

Human Trafficking in the State of Wisconsin By: Deanna Culver

Human Trafficking is becoming more and more of an epidemic in the state of Wisconsin. Many of our children in either foster care or group homes are being targeted and end up leaving care when they turn eighteen years old. At this age, they are considered to be “out of the system.” These children are repeatedly targeted because most were not taught or guided properly and often feel like they have no other place to go. According to federal legislation, human trafficking involves the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purposes of forced labor or services through means of force, fraud, or coercion. Sex trafficking occurs when a sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or when the person induced to perform such acts is under the age of eighteen. Human trafficking often involves severe physical violence to its victims as well as a host of other crimes including gang crime, drug and property crimes, criminal actions, and other violations of state, federal, and international law. Human trafficking is recruiting, enticing, harboring, transporting, providing or obtaining an individual (or attempting to do so) without the consent. Trafficking can occur in locations and settings where it does not always appear suspicious and can also be in legal and legitimate businesses. A person in charge may control another person whose movement, speech and activities appear to be closely controlled and monitored. A person/victim doesn’t always have to be standing on a street corner to be considered a prostitution but, trafficking.

In Wisconsin, human trafficking can be prosecuted as a state crime. Any involvement of a minor in sexual acts for money or anything of value, including basic survival needs, is against the law. Victims of human trafficking range from children, teenagers, men, and women who are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor. Victims who can get caught up in such a horrible and scary lifestyle can be of any race, age, sex, background, ethnicity, or working profession. 14

Trafficked victims are compelled to work in the sex industry, service and labor sectors by traffickers who gain financially from the victims’ labor. No victim of trafficking has freedom to live let alone to safely escape because traffickers use threats, deception, violence and coercion to impose physical and psychological tactics to maintain control of their victims making them fear other’s especially police officers. Victims become completely dependent on their traffickers to meet their basic human survival needs. They become isolated and conditioned to fear the criminal justice system. They may also be in denial because they’ve been brainwashed to believe the life they are living is normal or the only place they have for survival. Minors cannot consent to participate in the sex

industry but, through trafficking it is happening. Most aren’t aware that there is help in our communities and state to help guide our children down a better and safer path for a fulfilling future. It starts with us as adults by helping our children to learn and make appropriate choices about their futures. This doesn’t have to be a silent and dangerous epidemic. If we all work together to get the word out and make sure that resources are active and available for our children, before things become worse, and we lose our children to such a horrible and unsafe lifestyle. In Wisconsin the Wisconsin Office of Justice

Assistance (OJA) Human Trafficking Committee is a diverse team of professionals, including community activists, attorneys, and law enforcement agents. They are working to address the problem of human trafficking trying to get the word out along with resources available to our children and adults. Some common tactics used to keep a victim as a victim include: 1) Threatening to do physical harm to the victim and to the victim’s friends or family 2) Charging the victim money for things like food and housing because they might believe they are legally obligated to repay their trafficker for these survival things 3) Frequently moving the location of operations to create disorientation and to prevent the victim from establishing local relationships or resources 4) Instilling fear and giving misinformation about the laws to increase the victim’s distrust of law enforcement and fear of punishment by going to jail for something they were forced into doing A look at Human Trafficking Worldwide: Currently, there are 12-27 million adults and children are in forced labor, bonded labor, and forced to do sexual things to survive or forced into prostitution around the world. Annually, 2.45 million people become victims of either internal (domestic) or transnational trafficking. Global figures estimate that 70% of victims are female; one third of those are children. Each year, one million children are exploited by sex trade. The total annual profit generated by human trafficking industry is $32 billion. $15.5 billion is made in trafficking in industrialized countries. Forced laborer can be as high as $67,200 per victim of trafficking each year. . A few website pages to look at if needing and wanting help or more information: 1) Wisconsin Dep. Rise of the Guardians Starring: Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law Director: Peter Ramsey

Studio: Dreamworks Animation

Rated PG Running Time: 1 hr. 37 mn. The Facts: The story revolves around Jack Frost (Chris Pine), who is unseen by humans. Jack wonders what his purpose for being is, and why the “man on the moon” chose him to exist as an invisible entity. He is recruited by the “Guardians” North aka Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), Tooth Fairy aka Tooth (Isla Fisher), E. Aster Bunnymund aka The Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), and Sandy aka The Sandman (does not speak words, only pictures). Jack reluctantly joins the other guardians in a battle against the evil Pitch aka the Boogeyman (Jude Law). Pitch sets out to destroy belief in the minds of all children, no more Easter Bunny, Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy. Jack learns that he is invisible to humans because no one believes in him. Jack and his fellow guardians embark on a mission to stop Pitch’s evil plans. My Review: The story moves along at a fast pace, which helps for those parents with a short attention span. There are few laughs throughout the movie, but the character interaction is great. Watching Jack grow into a Guardian from a little boy during the battle with Pitch was one of the highlights of the movie. It was also nice to see Jack and Sandman get a little air time this Christmas, since these characters are rarely seen during the holidays. I would’ve loved to see more of Sandy in the story. I thought Sandy was the most interesting character besides Jack. The early personality clash between Jack and Easter Bunny made the story more fun. I would recommend this movie to all fellow moviegoers this holiday season. It is an interesting story and not the typical Christmas movie. I rate this movie 3 ½ out of 4 stars! Thanks for reading and see you in Cinemania! Michael J. King 16

Swap or Sell???

By Sarah Freimuth Another semester has come and gone. This leaves students with books they no longer need. Many bring them to the bookstore in an attempt to sell them back. Some are successful and leave with their pockets padded, while others leave with the books they had hoped to part with. Luckily FVTC has a swap board for students trying to sell them directly to other students, beginning the classes they are now ending. To reach a wider audience, swap board has expanded beyond just a bulletin board and now has an online version also. It is like Craig’s List for FVTC students. Whether it is books, a roommate, a car, or a chinchilla, swap board is here to help. The website is easy to use and beneficial for buyers as well as sellers.

I would like to thank him for his impressive level of enthusiasm. If anyone is interested in joining Welding Club it is open to all current FVTC students.

Sensory Carnival 2012 Krista McDuffee, OTAS OT Theory 3rd Semester 11/11/2012

On November 7th, 2012 third semester Occupational Therapy Assistant students (OTA) students from Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) hosted their first Cody Sabel (top left) George Davis (top right) annual Sensory Carnival for Leanora Perez (bottom left) And Roger Yang (bottom right) children ages 4-5 who attend the Child Care Center located on the FVTC campus. There were 15 children, 17 Volunteer Work: Saving a lake Welding Clubs volunteer project this year is OTA students, and 10 Child Care Center workers to produce an experimental auxiliary carp gate in attendance. Two classrooms were utilized for for Rush Lake. The gate will be used during flood the Sensory Carnival, this is so that there would conditions in early spring to prevent carp from be enough room for everyone (children, students, entering the lake. The aim of rush lake committee and child care workers) to enjoy themselves. 20

To say that the event was a success would be an understatement. The children were welcomed by the OTA students at 9:30am and the fun didn’t stop till it was time for the children to head back to the Child Care Center at 11:00am. Upon arrival, the children were all included in a warm up, or icebreaker if you will, with a giant parachute - the giggles were contagious. Upon completion of the icebreaker, all of the children were divided into groups of 3-4 for each session. The children attended each “booth” for 10 minutes then rotated through the Sensory Carnival so that each child had the opportunity to participate in each booth.

The OTA students hosted the Sensory Carnival as part of the curriculum for Occupational Theory with Dr. Ann Jadin. The OTA students were responsible for coming up with all of the activities the children would participate in including providing or locating all items required for each session. Before, during, and after the Sensory Carnival, all of the FVTC Core Abilities were demonstrated by the OTA students. For example; thinking on their feet to solve issues and make snap decisions is practically a prerequisite while in the OTA program. Each OTA student has learned how to adapt on the fly (making activities more difficult or easier for whomever they work with). Since children are all very different (just like grownups) when a booth didn’t go quite as planned the OTA students would work as a team to solve the issue. All of the OTA students worked as they always do, with open communication,

the OT Program Outcomes were met during the sessions with the children. All of the FVTC OTA students demonstrated professional behavior, maintained high ethical standards, and were stellar examples of the occupational therapy profession.

In the field of Occupational Therapy, it is paramount to research our interventions in advance and locate evidence based practice to support what we do. In the “Occupational therapy services in early childhood and school-bases settings” article found in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT) it states, “ Play is viewed as the primary activity of the young child, and prerequisite to competence in occupational roles throughout life”, “Sensorimotor play lays the groundwork for the emergence of constructive play”, and finally, “As the child organizes sensation and responds appropriately to it, the central nervous system (CNS) becomes more organized. This is the process of sensory integration, the organization and interpretation of sensation for an adaptive response”. References:

The table clinic explained many complications that can arise due to the growing phenomenon of tongue piercing. Items covered were not only common site specific dental problems such as tooth chipping and gingival recession, but also the less common and less heard of microbiological factors that can lead to local and systemic infections. Upon conclusion of the information presented, the participants walked away with in-

formation of the best medicine for tongue piercing. Dental professionals and the public need to be educated and aware of the many problems associated with tongue piercings. People need to know that not only tooth chipping and gum recession can occur from a tongue piercing but they also need to be educated on the systemic risks of tongue piercings and the table clinic the students presented at the state Dental Hygiene Conference focused on systemic problems that can develop.

The extensive research Ashley, Jeff, and Brooke did show the hard work they put into it. It also shows that they understand the importance of educating dental professionals and the public of the detriments of tongue piercing. If you would like to read the whole article, email Sharri Crowe (FVTC Community Dental Health Instructor) and I would be happy for forward the information to you crowe@fvtc.edu .

RESOURCES AND TIPS By Kim Bazan

“Do or Do not...There is no try.” ~ Yoda

With the New Year starting, it is more than likely everyone will start their new year’s resolutions and goals, etc. But instead of going in-depth with the usual tips of how and what a goal should entail. I would like to honor a couple authors and motivational speakers that I have never met in person, but they continue to influence my life every day. I would like to combine the topic with some of my favorite quotes from them and hopefully they will inspire you this year and beyond as they have mine. We must have a ‘strong’ and ‘personal’ reason why we want to do or have something, because when we feel passionate about something, no matter what it is, we will get it done. Keep asking yourself ‘why’ over and over again. Just like a child keeps asking the question. Why, is a great question! Keep digging until you get to that real reason why. Covey was the author of many books, but well known for The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. My summary: Stay Proactive throughout your life and always start with an end in mind in all that you do. Always put first things first which are most important to you and always try to work with a winwin mindset. Always try to understand before being understood with true sincerity and working together collectively to create a win-win idea or situation will lead to a powerful source of energy called synergy. Most importantly, don’t forget self-renewal, we should never forget to sharpen the saw which include our physical, mental, social/emotional, and spiritual well-being. Without taking care of ourselves, how are we to help others. Please don’t let another year go by thinking there is always next year…I wish everyone a great New Year in all your endeavors!! I would like to continue now with quotes from Jim Rohn, who’s anniversary was December 5 (1930-2009) and Hilary Hinton, best known as “Zig” Ziglar (1926-2012) KIM: What was this the anniversary of? Jim Rohn was an American entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker. Some of my favorite quotes of his are: “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” “Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.” “If someone is going down the wrong road, he doesn’t need motivation to speed him up. What he needs is education to turn him around.” “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” “Failure is not a single cataclysmic event. You don’t fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day.” “It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.” “If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” 24

“If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build, end up building us.” “When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.” “The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it. What it makes of you will always be the far greater value than what you get.” “Don’t set your goals too low. If you don’t need much, you won’t become much.” “Some things you have to do every day. Eating seven apples on Saturday night instead of one a day just isn’t going to get the job done.” “We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.” “The few who do are the envy of the many who only watch.” “Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become.” “Happiness is not an accident. Nor is it something you wish for. Happiness is something you design.” “I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.” Hilary Hinton “Zig” Ziglar was an American author, salesman, and motivational speaker. Some of my favorite quotes from him are: “Remember failure is an event, not a person.” “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” “People often say motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.” “Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.” “If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they are scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.” “A goal properly set is halfway reached.” “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” “A lot of people quit looking for work as soon as they find a job.” “If you want to reach a goal, you must ‘see the reaching’ in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal.” “It’s not what you’ve got; it’s what you use that makes a difference.” “If you learn from defeat, you haven’t really lost.” “Failure is a detour, not a dead-end street.” “You cannot perform in a manner inconsistent with the way you see yourself.” “If you do not pay the price of success, you enjoy the price of success.” And I would like to end with a shout out to Mr. Stephen Richards Covey (1932-2012)

Basketball, Basketball, Basketball, it’s More Than Just a Game. By: Deanna Culver

I went to the men’s basketball game on December 12, 2012 to take photos for Fox Times and enjoyed observing the game as well. Even though Fox Valley Technical College’s men’s basketball team didn’t win this game (60-72) they are tough as nails. Many fell, but got right back up and joined in as if nothing happened. I saw team involvement and dedication that these young men practiced with every step, jump, pass, dribble, and score. Sly the Fox was involved doing cartwheels, jumping up and down, clapping hands and doing the normal sports wave with the audience to help encourage and support the players. If you don’t know much about basketball, the game can appear disorderly or full of confusion but, basketball is a very transforming, revitalizing, and competitive game. Teams are incorporating; setting up and running multiple defensive and offensive plays throughout the whole game. Coaches are on the sidelines constantly watching and studying the game, while making sure they have the right players in the game. Also, they are doing their best to make the best judgments and adjustments, while trying to outsmart the other team players and coaches. The teams are often changing up their defenses and who is guarding who during a basketball game. Scoring in any sport is exciting and fun to watch and be involved in. I noticed and have been told that our home games are played at UW-Extension on Midway Road in in Menasha, which is great and very much appreciated; however, wouldn’t it be nice, fantastic, and supportive to have our own gym where practices and official games could be played? Also, wouldn’t it be encouraging and exciting to have our own gymnasium that states our name FVTC Foxes on the side lines of the I will be writing something in the next month or so about a possible gymnasium at FVTC Appleton that everyone can take a short survey on in hopes of letting our voices, thoughts, and opinions to be heard regarding the pros and cons of having a gymnasium at FVTC- More details to come. I enjoyed observing our school basketball team doing what they do best on the court. I look forward to enjoying many more games that are up coming and encourage other students and staff members to get involved and help encourage and support our school athletes. Maybe next semester and many more to come there can be more involvement to have a Fox’s Women’s Basketball Team as well (we didn’t have enough involvement for fall 2012 semester) so, let’s get hopeful and more involved in our school and our health. 27

ECE Club makes their mark! By Erica Berndt, FVTC ECE Club Vice President

The ECE Club has had a great first semester of

fundraisers and community events! We started off with Convoy of Hope in the beginning of October which was a HUGE success, serving approximately 5,000 people and utilizing just over 1,000 volunteers! Offered there were free haircuts, free dental exams, children’s bouncy houses and free bags of groceries to name a few. Talk about making a difference! We also held a two-day fundraiser at FVTC in October to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness! There we sold t-shirts, bracelets, key chains, pins, and many other items. We had a great turn out and appreciate everyone’s support! Lastly, we participated in the “One Stop Shop” at FVTC on November 17. It was another huge success for the ECE Club and FVTC with many crafts and holiday gifts for your loved ones. We’ve got a lot of other things up our sleeve for the upcoming semester, so keep your eyes peeled for more exciting events! From everyone at ECE Club, we’re wishing you all a happy and safe holiday season!
