YMCA Member of the Quarter The YMCA Member of the quarter is Justin Heard. In my 17 years of Y work I have yet to meet a member as inspirational and encouraging as Justin. We are happy to have helped impact Justin’s life in some way but delighted in the impact he has given to our staff and Y. Thank you Justin for being a great Y Member. You are truly an inspiration. Here is a little bit about Justin in his own words: The Y has been an important part of my life as I have struggled with weight my entire life and is something that I had always just accepted. From December, 2010 until the end of February, 2012 I had lost 125 lbs. Since joining the YMCA I have been more active than I ever have been and it has definitely made a huge difference. From March to July I lost around 80 lbs. from working out six days a week, twice a day. Most of my participation has been in the Aqua Fitness classes. I have also been training upstairs with Jenny Miller and Danielle Penge. Outside of the pool I have started doing cardio on the treadmill and personal training upstairs. My motivation for working out at the Y has been knowing I used to weigh 656 and am able to say I am conquering that is all the motivation I need to do this. Not a lot of people can say they have and continue to make that daily change no matter how hard it can get. I also do this knowing that each day I walk into the YMCA, someone else is bettering their life as well and maybe I can give them a little bit of inspiration as well. My social life has also improved considerably as I have met so many wonderful people throughout my time at the Y. It’s amazing how much I have changed and I have a lot of people from the Y to thank. I never thought this much would happen in this short amount of time but sure enough it has. I am now teaching Aqua Fitness which is another thing I never thought I would be in the position/condition to do. I have seen some drastic mental and physical changes as well. I am no longer depressed as I used to be because I wake up each day with a purpose. Physically I notice changes daily. I have more stamina than I used to and can do a lot more than I ever thought I could do. When I doubt if I can do something, I make sure I find ways to get it done. So I would say the YMCA has greatly influenced the path I am now on and will hopefully continue to do so for a long time. My favorite part of the Y is that I love the no judgment aspect of the YMCA and it’s basically one big family. It seems like a lot of people there genuinely take interest in others stories. It’s nice to see and meet new people on a daily basis who are working to better their lives every day.
YMCA Employee of the quarter This month’s employee of the quarter is Lucy Corning. She has worked at the Y since last October. She works in the SAFE program, teaches swim lessons and works with the Aqua Force swim team. Her favorite parts of her job are when the swimmers succeed and meeting new people on a daily basis. Lucy moved here from St. Louis and worked at the Y there. She enjoyed the experience so much that she wanted to work for a Y again. Since starting at the Y, Lucy says she enjoys life more and feels younger at heart while working with the children. Overall, she says the Y has taught her to put others first and to do a job you love and love doing it. Away from the Y Lucy has been married for over thirty years, has four children and four grandchildren. She loves riding her bike, taking care of her flowers, doing Zumba and playing with her grandkids. Her mottos are “all you need is love,” “be accountable for your actions.” and “be a leader worth following.”

gymnastics Fox Valley Flyers The Fox Valley Flyers is our competitive team. The Flyers compete in both YMCA and USAG meets throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. The Flyers also have the opportunity to qualify for YMCA Nationals which are held in a different state each year. Last year the Flyers traveled to Ohio! The Flyers Team consists of levels 4 through 9 and has approximately 40 gymnasts competing. The girls have worked hard to get through all the instructional levels to earn their way to team. Team try-outs are held each year in June as a part of our annual Summer Gymnastics Camp.
2012 National Gymnasts
The Flyers are coached by Karen Oelker, Amy Killey, Dani Iorfida, Chloe’ Oelker and Libby Ellerby. Our goal as coaches is and always has been to not only make this a strong, winning team, but to teach our girls the importance of working together and supporting each other. We believe what they learn here will stay with them long after their gymnastics careers. 2011 1st Place Level 8, 2nd Place Level 6 and 7, 3rd Place Level 5 2010 1st Place State Team Champions at Level 4, 5, 6 and 7 2009 1st Place State Team Champions at Level 4, 5, 6, and 7 2008 1st Place State Level 5, 2nd Place State Level 6, 2nd Place Level 7 2007 1st Place State Level 4 and 6, 2nd Place State Level 5 2006 2nd Place State Level 4, 5, and 6 st 2005 1 Place State Level 4 and 2nd Place State Level 5 2004 2nd Place State Level 4 2003 3rd Place State Level 4 and 5 National Competitors

All program cancellations requested by participants must be in writing 5 business days before the start of the class and may result in a $10 service fee. Cancellation policy is subject to change.
Holiday/Refund Disclaimer: The Y does not hold classes on certain holidays so that our members and participants may spend time with their families. We do not prorate for these classes. provide services for any adult, senior, or child who desires to participate and understands the benefits of the YMCA, regardless of ability to pay the standard membership or program fee. Those not able to pay the full fee may be awarded partial assistance based on their demonstrated ability to pay and the YMCA’s ability to fund the subsidy. Financial Aid will only be provided for Fox Valley Family YMCA members. Non-members are not eligible for Financial Aid. Families receiving Financial Aid will be eligible to receive a maximum of $1000.00 for every six months
Community Support Campaign:
Walk into any of our program sites or facilities and you will see people of all ages and
incomes. If a person or family is unable to pay for membership, scholarships may be provided through donations from generous businesses, foundations and individuals. The demand for scholarships and program sponsorships increases every year. More than 1,000 individuals received assistance last year. Your gifts are needed to keep the YMCA open to all. Contributions can be made with stock, cash, credit card, or through a small increase to your monthly membership bank draft. Capital Campaign: In addition to
annual contributions for scholarship and program support, our YMCA is actively reinvesting in facilities to meet the needs of kids, teens, families, and seniors for generations to come. Every gift, large or small, is important as we look to your YMCA’s future. Endowment / Heritage Club:
The Heritage Club is an organization of people who have shown their long-term interest and support of our YMCA by either a direct contribution to the Endowment Fund, or by including the YMCA in their estate plans. It is the commitment rather than the amount that is the basic factor in qualifying as a Heritage Club member. Heritage Club Membership:
An individual or couple is qualified for Heritage Club membership by any of the following: An outright gift to the YMCA Endowment Fund of cash, securities, property, or other marketable assets. Creation of a unitrust, annuity trust, gift annuity, pooled-income fund, short-term trust or other life estate program. Naming the Fox Valley Family YMCA as the eventual recipient of a life insurance policy, qualified retirement plan, 401 (k), 403 (b), or IRA. Naming the Fox Valley Family YMCA to receive a bequest in one’s will. Expressing intent to do any one of the foregoing at such time as circumstances permit. Volunteer: Donate your time! The
YMCA is always looking for volunteers, especially for our special events. Youth who volunteer are less likely to engage in risky behavior, are more likely to feel connected to their communities, and tend to do better in school. Get involved today. Fill out a volunteer application at the YMCA or call for details.
