BE FAITHFUL
the
may come later
He wasn’t there long. His missionary service in Africa many years ago might even be characterized as a failure. After only a short time, George Smith was driven from his African ministry, leaving only one convert to Christianity behind, a poor woman. He died not long after that, on his knees praying for Africa. Years later, a group of men stumbled upon a copy of the Scriptures he had left behind in Africa and met the one convert George Smith had made. Believe it or not, one hundred years later, a mission agency discovered more than 13,000 Christian converts that traced their roots back to George Smith! Now that’s what I call a successful ministry! But I’m sure it didn’t seem that way to Mr. Smith as he was being forced to leave the country after only a short time of ministry. I wonder... what if he had become discouraged and thrown in the towel? What if he quit before that one, poor woman gave her life to Christ? What if he had left the country without bothering to leave behind a copy of the Bible? What if he had given up trying to pray for Africa? Missionary George Smith remained faithful in the little things of his short ministry in Africa... and reaped a reward he would not see until heaven. There are times when God might call us to do simple and ordinary things for Him.
But even what we might consider the “little acts of service and ministry” can be used in big ways by our Heavenly Father! I never thought my four-year youth ministry to a bunch of privileged kids in Pasadena would amount to much – I was just one youth pastor in a long line of people who had made incredible impacts for Jesus in that local church over the decades. In discouragement, I left not feeling very effective or successful. And yet years later... pastors, youth pastors, missionaries, Christian teachers, worship pastors and even Christian authors came from that group of young people and volunteer leaders. But at the time, it was hard for me to see the “fruit” that would eventually be produced. Jesus taught of the importance of being faithful with the gifts and talents we have been given to serve Him. In the parable of the bags of gold, Jesus said, “Well done good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” – Matthew 25:21 I want to encourage you to remain faithful in the ministry God has given you. Every ministry is vitally important to God... and to our church! Your ministry and efforts impact lives! Remain faithful and who knows how God might use your ministry to impact others! Serving with you, Jim Marian, Lead Pastor

STEWARDSHIP we have “earned?” How many times do we allow the enemy to distort our ability to live with thankfulness and anticipation of all God has intended for us?
continued on toward Jerusalem, He reached “ AstheJesus border between Galilee and Samaria. As He entered
a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, crying out, 'Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!' He looked at them and said, 'Go show yourselves to the priests.' And as they went, their leprosy disappeared. One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, 'Praise God, I'm healed!' He fell face down on the ground at Jesus' feet, thanking Him for what He had done. This man was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, 'Didn't I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Does only this foreigner return to give glory to God?' And Jesus said to the man, 'Stand up and go. Your faith has made you well.' – Luke 17:11-19
”
With the questions Jesus asks in this Scripture, it is clear He expects us to show gratitude; our Lord is clearly disappointed at the unthankfulness of the nine lepers who did not return. What could they have been thinking? Why did the nine not return to give glory and honor to Jesus? Perhaps fear prevented them from believing the reality of their healing. Perhaps the enemy whispered in their ear “Caution! You can’t believe you are truly healed. You had better wait and see what tomorrow brings!” Maybe the nine lepers thought their healing was coincidental; satan may have planted the idea of luck and fate in their minds. After all, Jesus did not even come near enough to touch them; they must have been getting better and it was simply coincidence that Jesus spoke to them. Or perhaps they were busy patting themselves on the back for deciding to call out to Jesus. Satan may have whispered in their ear how very wise they had been to give Jesus a chance. It was all about them; how thankful they may have been for their own insightfulness!
We must discipline ourselves to live thankful lives, offering a continual praise of thanksgiving, to be filled and overflowing with thanks-living. Lifting glory and honor to God allows us to live confidently, recognizing that He has provided all we have and will continue to do so. We are to acknowledge the many gifts and blessings we have been given and regularly remember how faithful God has been throughout our lives. Our thanks-living becomes a life style of thankful giving. must give as they are able, according to the “Allblessings given to them by the LORD your God. – Deuteronomy 16:17” people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had “The given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy. – 1 Chronicles 29:9 ”
How will you offer the blessings of your life back to God in an attitude of thanks-living?
– Janet Krieger Elder Business Ministry
The question is, are we any different from those nine lepers? How often do we fail to recognize and thank God for His blessings? How often do we receive and not believe it is from our King? How many times have we remarked on our own “good luck?” How many times have we congratulated ourselves or received congratulations for the position, money, or good things in our life that 3

Serving Jesus Together
Jesus
Recently I stopped to think about how I was signing my emails and letters, Together Serving Jesus. It dawned on me that day what I was saying. Did I really mean what I was saying, or had it become just like, Sincerely or Best Regards and there was no meaning behind the closing. I was leading staff devotions in a few weeks and felt I was supposed to do it on those three little words. What happened was, as I would sign my correspondence in the weeks following, I’d stop as I wrote each word and concentrate on each word that took on new meaning:
I am reminded of what the King said to the righteous as to who will inherit the Kingdom of God:
Together
No matter who we serve, we, as Christ- followers are serving an audience of One!
people are better off than one, for they can help “Two each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
”
There truly is strength in numbers, especially when believers in Jesus gather together as we are reminded in Matthew 18:20, For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.
“

these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did “Then we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ – Matthew 25:37-40
”
Where is God calling YOU to serve Him?
• Driving someone to church, Bible study, Growth Group or... (There’s a big need) • Taking dinner to someone sick or just home from the hospital • Walking alongside someone who lost a spouse or loved one • Being a reading tutor at Adams Elementary
We, as the church, the Body of Christ, can make a difference. Like Isaiah’s call: then I heard the voice of the Master: 'Whom shall “And I send? Who will go for us?' I spoke up, 'I’ll go. Send me!' – Isaiah 6:8 ” – Together Serving Jesus,
We all, yes, you too, have been given spiritual gifts, talents and unique personalities. Here’s what Paul says in Romans 12:6-8, His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing “Incertain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
”
This doesn’t say if you are part of the few, the proud , the ordained, or gone to Bible college, the Deacons, Elders, or church staff. It’s all of us, as the Body of Christ, serving. 4

LOVE AND FORGIVENESS
AMOR Y PERDÓN
We all are living in difficult times where LOVE and FORGIVENESS become a daily necessity. In our imperfection, the desire to be perfect impels us to cry out to God for His divine intervention. Our thirst and need for justice make us cry out to our Lord imploring Him to attend our prayers from His celestial throne. He reminds us in Matthew 5:3 that we are BLESSED and that the KINGDOM of HEAVEN belongs to us when we are poor in spirit and recognize our imperfection and our need for our Lord and Savior.
Sometimes in our accelerated race we forget that we must run to reach the crown that will last forever. you not know that in a race all the runners run, but “Do only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that
you may seize the prize and make it yours! Now every athlete who competes in the games is disciplined and exercises self-control in all things. They do it to win a crown that withers, but we do it for an imperishable crown that cannot wither. Therefore I do not run without a definite goal; I do not flail around like one beating the air. But I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified.
”
– 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Remember! We are not perfect, but God who is perfect in love, loves us and forgives us from all our faults and sins, and in order (MANDATORY) to have a good relationship with our Heavenly Father we must also LOVE and FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER. God so loved and dearly prized the world, that He “For gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him is not judged; but the one who does not believe is judged already, because he has not believed and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For every wrongdoer hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his activities will be exposed and condemned. But whoever practices truth comes to the Light, so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are – accomplished in God. – John 3:16-21

GRACIA DE CRISTO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Imagine if you would, that you are in elementary school and you are using your second language. You have spoken Spanish all of your life and that’s the language you speak at home. Your parents do not speak English and the English that you have learned is from your peers, school, watching TV or listening to the radio. Because you know some words in English, you have conversations in English with friends and teachers and get by with what you know. Then it comes time to read English and comprehend a thought, which can become very confusing. With just a little help and support, you as a Child of God, can become a leader and productive citizen in our community. For God has a plan to prosper you and to give you hope and a future. He also has plans for all of His people to work together and share their gifts with one another. que cree y confíe en Él [como Salvador] no perezca, sino tenga vida eterna. – Juan 3: 16-21

an after school program for the students at Adams. The program began October 16 and lasts 8 weeks through fall quarter. The students meet two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20pm until 4:55pm. The Yakima School District is providing snacks for the kids, and then they jump right into the program. It consists of three different segments: 1) character building, 2) activities (art, music, dance & sports), and 3) academics with focus on reading, writing, and math. What makes this program so special are the volunteers who are building relationships with the Adams students.
The volunteers consist of people from Grace of Christ, parents of the students and volunteers from Davis High School.

Hospitality Ministry
Growing In Jesus Though Hospitality & Serving Others We All Need Fellowship
Easy Ways to Begin Serving
Fellowship events are great opportunities to get acquainted with others at Grace of Christ Church – an avenue to Belong. But, if you want to grow and deepen your Christian discipleship and relationships with others, we encourage and invite you to take an opportunity to volunteer by working alongside others in ministry.
There are many great places to serve though various ministries at Grace of Christ Church. If you are looking for a place to get your feet wet serving with others, Hospitality Ministry is a great place to start!
Working Together Builds Resilience and Satisfaction Whether in partnership with your Growth Group or joining in another group banded together for a common task, working together helps to build the Body of Christ both corporately and individually. It is both a way to Become and to Bless. When serving in ministry with others we can Become more Christ-like. When we seek to Bless others, we end up getting blessed! It is interesting that research on resilience and life satisfaction (happiness?) are finding that people who connect to something greater than self are more likely find deeper satisfaction in their lives and are more resilient when life’s challenges and stresses compound. The more we are connected to the Body of Christ the greater our resilience and satisfaction.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being.”

Student Ministry Thank You Austyn!
— Thomas Sudbury
A New Kind Of Church
Over the past month, we have been experimenting with a new way to reach out to youth and young adults in the area. We have a team of six who have a passion for ministering to young people and for video games. We decided to try and tie those two together. The first event was a huge success! Our desire is to see those who may not come to a normal service or youth group event come and feel like the church is a place for them. We set up video game consoles, have board games and even have a game bus for the kids to hang out on while they are here. The message is geared toward them, and we are even trying to find unique ways to bring the gospel to those as they play in their games. Please pray for this mission. Pray that the young people who come realize the need for Jesus in their life. Pray for them to build healthy relationships with people who are seeking the Lord. Pray that God uses these games and connections in a mighty way.
We want to thank Austyn Chynoweth for serving as the Assistant Director of Student ministries over the past year. We are excited to see her transition into her new role at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes under the direction of Barry Reifel. Austyn has told us she feels this is her church home and will continue to attend and work with the high school students on Wednesday nights. Over the past year, we have been blessed with Austyn’s tenacious personality and her ability to build relationships with both youth and the congregation here at Grace. We are thankful she is continuing to be involved and connected to our Student Ministries.

what we say about our blessings, but how we use “Not them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving. ” – W.T. Purkiser Thank you to everyone who supported our Pampered Chef fundraiser! You helped raise funds that support our amazing program and ensure that every child, regardless of financial situation, is able to be a part of it! Your contribution also provided new cooking kits not only for our school, but also for under-served schools around the country! Cooking in classrooms and teaching proper nutrition are essential to childhood growth and development, and combines math, science, reading and comprehension – skills and knowledge they will need moving forward in their education. KNDO Channel 23 visited Mrs. Schraan and her Pre-K class in October to highlight the amazing work she is doing in that area! I am so thankful for all of our amazing teachers and the way they bring their own special touch to each classroom!
NOVEMBER CHAPEL In our Jesus Storybook Bible, we learn: Through the story of the tower of Babel, that “...the way back to heaven wasn’t a staircase; it was a Person. People could never reach up to Heaven, so Heaven would have to come to them. And, one day, it would.” Through Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, we learn that “...one day God would send another baby... this baby would bring laughter to the whole world. This baby would be everyone’s dream come true.” These stories will lead us right to celebrating Christmas and Jesus coming to earth as a baby!
IN THE CLASSROOMS This month is about Thanksgiving! We start the month talking about the Thanksgiving tradition, while also learning about nutrition, and how to make healthy food choices for our growing bodies. The week of Thanksgiving, we will have Thanksgiving Feasts with our friends and families! This is a special time of community and sharing. We will also have special guests come share with us more about what it means to be thankful. When we return from Thanksgiving break, it’s right into Christmas and everything that comes with that wonderful season... including baking gingerbread! But, uh-oh! Our gingerbread man might escape and we will have to run, run, run as fast as we can (which for us means walking) all around the church; following clues he’s left behind until we catch up with him! On behalf of the Grace of Christ Preschool Teachers and Board Members, I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving!
Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need. He gives me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water. He gives me new strength.
November Memory Verse: 13
The Lord is my strength. Psalm 28:7

Mothers of Preschoolers MOPS has been having a great year. We had our Paint Nite fundraiser and it was a ton of fun! We have two meetings this month and will be participating in the Operation Christmas Child and putting together shoeboxes. This is always so much fun. During our MOPS meeting on November 16, we will talk about ways to take care of ourselves including mental health. This is very important as a new mom to know when to get help.

Annual Christmas Breakfast scheduled for Friday, December 7 at the church. This breakfast is open to all women whether they have to come to MOPS or not! We will have a wonderful speaker, Amy Wells, who will share her story and how God has been so faithful to her family in all circumstances. Do you have a topic that you think is important to be shared in our MOPS group. Please let us know by contacting Danielle Woodcock at MOPS@yakimagrace.com or on Facebook. Be sure to like our page on Facebook as well to keep up to date on all events that might come up!

Mission Ministry MISSION COFFEE ROASTERS
The Mission Ministry Team knows that Grace is a church that focuses upon missions. Thereby, we would like to invite everyone to support MISSION COFFEE ROASTERS, Grace’s new coffee ministry. Utilizing single-origin coffee that is purchased globally through fair-trade, this premium coffee is aimed at serving our local community and making a global impact.
Commercial Coffee Roaster
Mission Coffee Roasters hope to purchase a coffee roaster that would allow for in-house roasting. In addition to providing the freshest and most flavorful coffee available, this roaster would also cut-down on production costs, as coffee would no longer need to be roasted at another site. A coffee roaster would also give us the ability to roast more coffee which could then be used by Grace’s Hospitality Ministry in the Garden Room following services or at other special events. This would also add the capacity to sell packaged Mission Coffee Roasters coffee at Grace or additional sites.
MCR'S FIRST MISSION CONNECTION IS: Project Mercy in Yetabon, Ethiopia
Sudbury also shares that after much prayerful consideration, student ministries has chosen Project Mercy in Yetabon, Ethiopia as the group’s first mission connection. Now, that is truly serving our local community and supporting our global community.
Students Supporting Ministry Outreach
The coffee is purchased from countries where our GCPC ministries are serving, with the coffee stand manned by youth from Grace’s Student Ministry. While garnering practical work experience, these youth are demonstrating a heart for missions as they are serving without any pay. Many of these youth have hopes of going on a mission trip themselves. Presently, Mission Coffee Roasters is operating on a limited basis with six youth and four adults working in pairs on a volunteer basis.
Help Fuel this Delicious Ministry
According to Thomas Sudbury, Student Ministry Director, the best way to help this new mission is to pray for Mission Coffee Roasters and for Grace’s missions. The Mission Ministry Team would also encourage you to purchase coffee, which will fuel this mission.

Founded in 1977, by Marta Gabre-Tsadick and her husband Deme Tekle-Wold, Project Mercy has a vision to renew the heart of Ethiopia. Project Mercy serves the people of Yetebon and beyond through its various ministries. These include—but are not limited to—Health Care, Dental Care, Cattle Distribution and Cattle Breeding, Skills Training Programs, Education, Clean Water Well, Children’s Orphan Institute, and Health Sciences College (with a Midwifery School). Project Mercy is a not-for-profit relief and development agency providing aid, comfort, and support in the name of Jesus Christ to alleviate human suffering and overcome systemic poverty in Ethiopia.

Ghormley Meadow Christian Camp Ghormley Benefit Dinner
We are praising God for a fantastic evening and response to our first-ever benefit dinner for Ghormley! 160 people joined us at Grace of Christ for an evening of great food, fun skits, worship, and inspiring testimonies from past and current Ghormley campers. $84,000 was raised, which exceeded our event goal of $71,000! This will allow us to complete the renovation of a vacant building into a multi-purpose cabin, which will provide us space for a camp nurse's cabin, short-term staff housing, and ministry worker personal retreat housing. In addition, the remaining proceeds not used on the building project will allow us to achieve our ministry development goals and puts us on track to end 2018 in the positive financially.
To those who attended and gave, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
We are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by so many. If you were not able to make it, it's not too late to give! Every gift matters, and will help us prepare to further the lifechanging work of Ghormley's ministry.
Family Camp Is Coming To Ghormley!
