“Love Others Through Drops of Grace”

Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church

Head Pastor — Bill Williamson

GOD.WITH.US “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means “God with us.”) – Matthew 1.23 Dear Grace of Christ, As Christmas draws year, my prayer is for you to know that God not only came to us as a baby, in human flesh, but that He is always with us. Good times. Bad times. God is with us. He was with the Israelites as they wandered through the desert. As the 23rd Psalm reminds us, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, God is with us. Immanuel: God with us. It is not just the name that Joseph was instructed to give his newborn son. The name given to the Christ child has deep theological ramifications. First, the fullness of God dwelt in Jesus Christ. Jesus was fully human, and fully God. “[Christ Jesus] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” – (Philippians 2.5-7) The baby Jesus, wrapped in “swaddling cloths,” was indeed God Himself wrapped in human flesh. And, for all those who receive Jesus Christ into their hearts, He is now wrapped in our flesh. Second, “God with us” tells us that we have not been left alone. God came to us in human flesh and He remains with us by His Holy Spirit. He never leaves us. He never abandons us. He never gives up on us. God is for us. He is not against us. With Christ “in us,” we have all the resources of God, poured out to us through the Holy Spirit.

2

I know that the holidays can often be a very depressing time for people. There are a variety of reasons: loss of a loved one, financial stress, even the fact that the days are getting shorter. So, even though it’s supposed to be the “most wonderful time of the year,” many people cannot wait for the holidays to be done. With that in mind, as we discuss “God.With.Us” on Sundays during Advent, we also will hear testimonies from those who have experienced difficult and dark times, but have discovered the restoring power of God. Each week there will be testimonies from individuals in our church, sharing their “longest night,” and how God has restored hope, joy, peace and love to them and their families. If you find the holidays to be difficult, lonely or depressing, we want you to know that you are not alone. God is with you, in human flesh through His family at Grace of Christ. If you would like someone to pray with you, walk alongside of you or care for you, we want to be Jesus with “skin on” for you. Our Deacons are a blessing to people who are in need of an extra dose of grace. Our Prayer Ministry leaders are available to pray with you and for you. Most importantly, rather than staying at home, please join us on Sunday mornings, as we encounter Christ together, Immanuel, God.With.Us.

My Extravagant Gift “It was now two days before the Passover celebration and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and put Him to death. “But not during the Passover,” they agreed, “or there will be a riot.” Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had leprosy. During supper, a woman came in with a beautiful jar of expensive perfume. She broke the seal and poured the perfume over His head. Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why was this expensive perfume wasted?” they asked. “She could have sold it for a small fortune and given the money to the poor!” And they scolded her harshly. But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why berate her for doing such a good thing to Me?... She has done what she could...” – Mark 14:1-8 What was done was an act of extravagant love offered with great sacrifice. Without words this woman demonstrated her intense devotion to and love for Jesus. Commentaries on this passage remark that the expense of the perfume was worth one year’s wages; in today’s economy that would equate to thousands of dollars. Anointing Jesus was a sacrifice. The meaningfulness was that this action cost the woman something of great value. Wasted? No, the perfume poured out became an act of worship. Sell the perfume, give the money to the poor? Yes, that was the expected and ordinary thing to do, but this woman had her priorities in order. Before ministry she put Jesus first; serving Him became, in that moment, the purpose of her life. She chose to do something extravagant, which became a foretelling of the extravagant gift God would give to us in His Son Jesus Christ. And, as the perfume ran over His head Jesus said it was good.

Spend time individually and as a family meditating upon the following questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you hearts and minds of discernment.

• How have you given God the best of yourself in response to the life He gave for you?

• How gladly and regularly do you spend time with God in worship, prayer and reading His word?

• How frequently do you give of yourself in love to someone needing compassion?

• How well do you use the gifts He has given you to accomplish your work?

• How does your life demonstrate you are a child of the King?

• In what ways has God gifted you for His Kingdom work? • In what ways is God calling you to repent and change your way of thinking and or living?

Maybe that is what our gifts to God are to be, the very best of what we have at the moment. Perhaps, like the woman with the jar of perfume, we are to break open our hearts and empty them, giving everything we have. Our gifts may seem insignificant but if they truly represent the giving of our very selves to God they are a most precious gift. When we offer our resources to God with extravagant love and intense devotion it becomes an act of honor and glorification of Him. 3

Pastoral Care — John Stolzenbach

GOD WITH US We live in uncertain times where many people live in constant fear if this or that bad thing is going to happen. Our Heavenly Father is saying to us today the same thing He said through the angels to Mary, Joseph and the shepherds that He is with us and we, too, are not to fear. To Mary the angel said: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God...” – Luke 1:30 To Joseph an angel said in a dream: “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife...” – Matthew 1:20 To the shepherds the angel said: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people...” – Luke 2:10 As we once again prepare to celebrate Christmas, may we not get so wrapped up in the presents that we throw the Christ child out with the wrapping paper, after all it is His birthday and the reason for the party. As the angel told Joseph in a dream when he was going to quietly divorce Mary, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.” – Mathew 1:20-25

Today more than ever we need the assurance that God is with us, first coming as a baby born in a lowly manger. Yes, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords wasn’t born in a fancy palace but was born in a smelly stable. Immanuel, God with us, truly understood what it was like to be human. His life, death on a cross, Resurrection and Ascension back to the Father were the best gifts ever given. But Jesus wasn’t done yet, as one of His parting gifts, before leaving to prepare a place for us, He promised He’d send His comforter, the Holy Spirit to live in us, and He delivered on that promise, too. As we prepare our hearts once again to let the Christ Child into our hearts, remember there are those around us, who, for many reasons, will have a difficult time because of brokenness, loneliness, unmet expectations, emotions (associated with loss and grief) that seem to be magnified as the rest of the world is singing “Joy to the World.” This year during the Christmas season we will have an opportunity to hear, through some powerful testimonies on Sunday mornings, from some of our own who have experienced many of those emotions during a period of time in their lives and found the hope they needed in Jesus. Please invite someone who needs to hear their stories. Testimonies are powerful.

Dear Church Family, On a personal note, I want to thank the church for this opportunity to come to you each month in Grace Alive as I have for the last year-and-a-half. I also have had the privilege of overseeing both Pastoral Care and the Deacons ministries after Pastor Cindy retired in the summer of 2017. I will be stepping out of leadership for a season of rest at the end of this year since our church leadership is in a good and stable place. I will be seeking areas the Lord wants me to focus on now and in the future both here at Grace and in the community. I look forward to seeing you at church and wherever our paths cross as we welcome in 2020 very soon.

Pastoral Care

THANK YOU JOHN! Throughout my years of ministry in the church, I have never served with someone like John Stoltzenbach. He is truly a man after God’s own heart. He serves humbly and faithfully. He is not only a brother in Christ, he is a friend. He cares for God’s people. He loves the Church. He loves the Lord and serves with such joy. He has become a person I can trust. I know that he truly cares for me. It is with faithful obedience that John now is responding to the Lord’s request to take a break from duties he has performed here at Grace of Christ. He and Sue will still be involved in the life and ministry here, but John will be stepping down from leadership responsibilities with Pastoral

Care and Deacons. God is already confirming this decision, as John and Sue find other opportunities to serve together. Although John will not be around the church during the week as much, I know that he and I will continue to get together for prayer periodically, even as we will continue to support one another and encourage each other in this new season of ministry. Thank you, John. Well done, good and faithful servant. – Pastor Bill Williamson

"No one knows what the future holds but we do know who holds the future." The Christmas story reminds us that Pastor Emeritus we are not alone or without hope in Steve Baker this world. It is the story of Jesus, born of Mary, who entered our broken world to bring salvation and hope. It is a story that demonstrates how the God the creator of all creation is actively involved in His creation. Give yourself a Christmas gift and rejoice because Christmas is a reminder that Jesus came to give us hope. There is a song written by Mark Lowry that I think of at Christmas time titled “Mary Did You Know.” It is a beautiful, powerful Christmas song. I encourage you to take a moment, be still and listen to it this season. Merry Christmas! 5

The Lost Sheep Have you ever lost your Smartphone, your car keys, or the remote control of your television set? Do you remember how you felt when you tried desperately to find them? What was your reaction when you found them? I got lost once when I was about 5 years old. I remember that my family had taken me to a fair far away from our home, everything there caught my attention, and I was amazed at everything I saw, heard, touched and tasted. Everyone enjoyed the mechanical games, the delicious food and the people who had fun with their families.

When the night came, the place was very crowded, and because I was so distracted, I separated from my family. I started to walk and walk without direction and was not able to find them. I thought they had forgotten me and left me. Then I walked to the sidewalk on a street that had little light, and I began to cry because I was afraid. I don't know how long I was crying, but what I do remember is that two young women approached me and asked me why I was crying. I answered that I was lost and that I wanted to return to my family. I told them with a voice shaky and full of fear, “You... know… what…, I do remember… my address…, please help me!” They called a taxi and asked the driver to take me home. When I got home, my family was full of joy and gratitude for the taxi driver and God for finding me.

In the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7), the sheep represents a repentant sinner. God reminded us that He will not rest until He finds His lost sheep, and then there will be a celebration in Heaven. Remember that Jesus is our good Shepherd, and you are special to God and He will protect you.

“Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

“No temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios estará contigo en dondequiera que vayas.” – Josué 1: 9

Women’s Ministry Beth Moore Bible Study

This fall the Women’s Ministry tried something new, offering a Wednesday evening Bible Study from Sept 18th to Nov 20th. Evenings began at 6:30pm with a simple supper in the gym with the youth group, followed by a Beth Moore Bible Study in the Lounge. We purposely selected Wednesday night so that women with children, from high school to infants, would have a place to be cared for during the study. As we work on our mission of “Providing opportunities and encouragement for women to be intentional about their faith,” we will continue to offer a variety of gatherings.

Did Someone Say BUNCO?!

Priscilla Shirer Spring Conference

Keep watch in the New Year for the details regarding a women’s trip to see Priscilla Shirer live in Redmond, WA on March 20, 2020. We would like to organize a group trip to the west side for this conference, similar to when Beth Moore was in Redmond a couple years ago. Before Priscilla’s conference in March, we plan to offer one of her Bible studies AND watch the movie “Overcomer!” We’ll have more details soon!

DECEMBER 5 | BUNKO | 5:30PM | GARDEN RM Mark your calendars, for another fun filled Bunko evening on Thursday, December 5 at 5:30pm in the Garden Room. We know the joyful Christmas season gets hectic, so we wanted to offer an evening of fun as well as a chance to connect with other women who may share or have other traditions for celebrating Christmas. Bunko is a great mixer! It is fun, no skills required, and everyone gets the chance to sit with someone they may not have known before that evening. We will provide a lovely soup dinner and childcare (call to RSVP for both!) Donations will be accepted for dinner.

MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers)

Thank you so much to everyone for your support during our apple and pumpkin pie bake sale! It was so much fun getting together in November and baking together. We will continue our celebration of the holidays by having a Baby Shower for Jesus for our Christmas Tea. New or gently used baby items will be donated to Love, Inc. Bring a pack of diapers to be entered into our raffle! All ladies are welcome to our Baby Shower Christmas Tea on DEC 6, from 9am-12. The second meeting of the month will be held December 20th from 9:00-11:30am, also in the Chapel. If you would like to volunteer with our kids’ program or join our group as a mentor mom, please email or call Danielle Woodcock at 509-312-9883. Continue to spread the word for all moms who need a little “me” time to come the 1st and 3rd Friday mornings at 9:30am. We would love to meet you!

THANK YOU – Thanksgiving Volunteers!

We continue to give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the many helping hands who aided in the All-church Thanksgiving meal. A church family, working together in an act of thanksgiving and mutual blessings! Several Life Groups came alongside the Hospitality Ministry Team to help. One group came in the Saturday before to set up tables and chairs and decorate, and then they stayed after the meal on Sunday to help tear down! Another Life Group arrived early Sunday morning to prepare the turkey, potatoes, gravy, and dressing. And then there were several individuals who volunteered in various ways including: greeting, directing, washing dishes, and putting things away, and taking photographs. A big thank you to members of Gracia de Cristo who helped with clean-up. And lastly, let’s not forget the contributions of all the yummy side dishes and desserts! HOLIDAY HOSPITALITY

It’s a busy season ahead, both in our personal families as well as in our church family. What a better time to pause to prayerfully consider how each of us can share the spiritual gift of hospitality towards strangers as well as with family and friends on the home front and at church. For many, the holidays can be a painful reminder of loss and loneliness. Each of us doing some small gesture, deed, or word of welcome can do much to infuse the atmosphere with God’s love! As disciples of Jesus, each of us carries His Light, “So let your light show shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matt. 5:16.

How Can I Help? The warmth of hospitality brightens every gathering and can minister as a healing balm to those battered and broken by the world. CHRISTMAS CONCERT

December 6 | 2:00pm | Sanctuary One hardly ever hears of ‘double features’ in this day and age, but that is exactly what lies ahead for you. On Friday, December 6 at 2:00 pm in the main sanctuary, Grace of Christ will be offering a special Christmas concert for everyone. First, the award-winning Davis choir will be sharing some delightful offerings for your enjoyment. Then, immediately after that, our own Anne Schilperoort, pianist extraordinaire, will be sharing her favorite Christmas selections. We guarantee that this combination will get you off to a grand start for the holidays by putting a song in your heart and a spring in your step. We’re also hoping that you’ll stay for the social hour after the concert and savor the warm feelings this beautiful music will evoke. To help that happen, we’ll have coffee and a bit of calorieladen decadence available for you. And just for a bit of added fun, we’ll have a raffle for a surprise Christmas gift. We promise you won’t go home with a fruit cake. (Some of us would actually be happy with that, but we know we’re a minority.) You will be encouraged to put your name and phone number in a hat. You don’t need to be present to win, but wouldn’t it be fun to go home with a little unexpected something tucked under your arm? So, please circle the date and time on your calendar. These musical artists are already hard at work for our pleasure. We would love to have you be a part of this very special afternoon. 12

Silent night Holy night

Worship Ministry The Story Behind “Silent Night, Holy Night” The words to one of today’s best-known Christmas songs, “Silent Night,” were written by Joseph Mohr who was born in 1792. He lived in a small village high in the Austrian Alps and was the priest of their Catholic Church. The year was 1818 and he and his organist, Franz Gruber, faced a dilemma just before Christmas when the church organ broke down. Without their booming organ leading the singing, they needed a hymn that the congregation could easily sing. Joseph Mohr took up the challenge and wrote the words for “Silent Night” and quickly shared them with Franz Gruber 14

who exclaimed, “You have found it – the right song – God be praised!” And then Franz Gruber created the notes of music for “Silent Night” that could be effective with guitar accompaniment for their Christmas service. This Alpine folk song might have remained obscure if it weren’t for the organ repairman. He saw the hymn, got a copy of the song and began to share it with others. And today, well it is truly one of our most beloved of all Christmas songs. – Donna Fuhlman Reference: The One Year Book of Hymns

Student Ministry — Ali Hildebrand

From Pressed to Blessed Cider Press Success

Thanks to the support we had from the congregation, Student Ministry was able to send six students on full scholarships to Ghormley’s Middle School Retreat! That doesn’t mean these guys didn’t work for it... during our Cider Press Fundraiser, our students spent four hours at what they refer to as maximum efficiency. As a group, they organized themselves into certain jobs and kept the press going full speed while chanting “maximum efficiency” and they went through a full bin of apples in a singe afternoon. The students worked hard and had fun doing it, so we are hoping to continue our youth cider press next year and maybe we will try for two bins.

Thanks to the support from parents and the church we were able to take 14 students up to Camp Ghormley for a weekend of fellowship, worship, s’mores, and star gazing. These weekends are highlights for both the students and the volunteers. We get to watch our students grow and push themselves out of their comfort zones in just a weekend. For some students this can be their first time out of Yakima or away from home. We also have students who are camp vets who go every summer so it’s encouraging to see the students turn to each other for support and strength and it’s even more encouraging when they learn they can turn to God in the same way. Enjoy all the goofy photos because they show the authentic vibe of camp. Middle schoolers enjoyed acting like middle schoolers all weekend.

Grace of Christ Preschool — Alli Weide www.yakimapreschool.com

GOODBYE ALLI WE WILL MISS YOU!

Allison Weide has been a wonderful addition to our Children’s Staff, serving as Children’s Ministry Assistant and as Preschool Director. Alli recently announced that their family will be venturing back to the west side where her husband Josh accepted a new position with his employer that requires them to relocate. It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Alli and her sweet family; we are so excited for them as they begin this new adventure, but so sad to see them go. During her time at Grace, Alli has served faithfully to do the work of Children’s Ministry, all while building relationships with kids and families alike during Sunday morning teachings and family events! Her attention to detail, organization, ideas, and support have been so appreciated and served as such a value to our programs here on Sunday mornings, VBS, and beyond through Ministry Outreach. I will miss having such a fun, faithful co-worker and friend to do ministry with, but know that God has an exciting plan! Please join me in thanking Alli for all that she has done, and lifting up Allison, Josh, Davanee, Liam, and Sawyer in prayer during this transition. The preschool board is excited to announce that we have hired Jessica VanHorn as our new Preschool Director. We look forward to welcoming Jessica back to our preschool in this role.

Ghormley Meadow Christian Camp

Middle School Retreat Recap! Ghormley hosted 84 middle school students from all over Central Washington for the Middle School Retreat on October 25-27, 2019. Students spent time playing Meadow games and paintball, participating in the challenge course elements, and roasting s'mores. While the students had a weekend packed with fun activities, they also spent time intentionally focused on cultivating their relationship with Jesus. Throughout the weekend, students gathered together to learn about identity from Ephesians 1. Our Program Director, Shane Sieweke, taught from Ephesians 1 focusing on what we have in Christ (redemption, lavished grace, the promised Holy Spirit) and who we are in Christ (redeemed, adopted, coheirs with Christ). We are thankful for what God did in the lives of middle school students through this weekend.

Leaving a Legacy... and then some! If you've been around Ghormley any time in the past 13 years, you've no doubt encountered our amazing full-time volunteer, Rich Williams. Rich has faithfully served in numerous capacities, Rich Williams far too many to list here! Sometimes it feels like Rich has been and will be a Ghormley fixture forever (we wish!). But, like all seasons in life, eventually God calls us to something new and exciting. That is the case for Rich this fall, as he is transitioning away from our ministry (in a full-time sense) in the coming months. However, in leaving our ministry, he is leaving yet one more amazing act of kindness behind, and that is his travel trailer! This has been Rich's home here at camp for a number of years now, and in moving away, he no longer has need of it, so he has graciously donated it to our ministry! This is an amazing gift that will give us much needed temporary housing flexibility for staff and volunteers who come through camp. We are incredibly sad to see Rich go but wish him well knowing that God will certainly use his amazing heart and gifts in his next season of life.

Mission Ministry “Equipping disciples to love and serve our neighbors” Grace of Christ is a mission focused church, sharing DROPS OF GRACE locally, nationally and internationally having a global reach. Loving in the name and power of Christ, Grace of Christ truly has a world-wide impact, changing lives for His Kingdom. The Mission Ministry Team (MMT) maintains interaction with and oversees distribution of funds to more than twenty mission partners and organizations.

Living Waters for the World to Implement Exploratory Trip

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From His innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.” – John 7:38 A team of seasoned veterans are preparing to make their way South of the boarder to begin relationship - building and to explore logistics for Living Waters of the World Viviana Baltazar baptized by (LWW). The team, consisting Thomas Sudbury on Nov 2 of Grace of Christ’s own Monte at the new YMCA in Yakima Schilperoort (administration), Larry Allan (installation), Jeff Steere (administration/ installation) and Peggy Steere (health education) will venture to Campeche, Mexico and to a secondary village, both located in the Yucatán Peninsula. This exploratory December trip, conducted prior to transporting any water purification equipment to the intended location, ensures the project will work and be successful long-term. Later, the team will make follow-up visits for installation and operations. Living Waters for the World (LWW) is a global ministry that provides sustainable clean water and fosters long-term partnerships to install and sustain water purification systems along with health education. Having access to purified water is a tangible way to offer “Drops of Grace” to our neighbors and to boost overall physical, mental and spiritual health.

CAMP HOPE A Place Of Refuge For The Homeless

loss of a home to fire, medical expenses draining all the funds, loss of a job. For others homeless is more long term due to addictions, mental illness, family systems and voluntary, or involuntary, existence in the sex slave industry. Whatever the reason for homelessness, each person who comes to Camp Hope is received just as he/she is, in the addiction, mental illness or situation. The key mission of Camp Hope is to develop a relationship with each resident. When people come into camp, we first make sure they are physically comfortable, by feeding them, providing a place to sleep, offering a warm shower and clothing. Then we work on developing a relationship by listening to their individual stories and loving them where they are in their illness, poverty, estrangement. When they feel safe and are ready, we help them take the next step towards greater independence and self-reliance by helping them find housing, obtain ID cards, find jobs and get help with medical concerns. They are allowed to stay at Camp Hope as long as they need. Currently, we have over 110 people staying at Camp Hope, including three families. At the beginning of the school year, we made sure all children were dressed in new school clothes and had transportation to school. We recently were able to provide all children with winter coats through a generous donation of gift cards from Costco. We also have received numerous meals prepared and served by churches throughout the valley. We still need churches to offer such a blessed kindness. There has been talk about a phenomenal potential for the relocation of Camp Hope. More will be shared at a later date. – Sheri Rynd Camp Hope Case Manager

Camp Hope, a homeless shelter located behind the Uhaul, previously known as Kmart, has been a place of refuge for many homeless individuals. There are a multitude of reasons for individuals finding themselves homeless. For some being homeless is a temporary setback due to increased rent, 20

MISCELLANEOUS

FAMILY DINNERS AT GRACE

I’m not sure how it happened, but in our busy culture the concept of having a family dinner has gotten lost. Food may be put on the table, but it’s often taken on the fly as everyone rushes to their next event. Many families simply do not have time to do dinner together at home, or it is not a priority. So, Family Ministries at Grace of Christ wants to provide a “family dinner” for everyone at the church once a month. The first one will be January 8th, 5:30-7pm. For January, Grace de Cristo will provide the main dish, and everyone else will provide the side dishes, salads, or desserts to share. Then, beginning February 5th, and every first Wednesday of the month we’re going to have old fashioned church pot-lucks. There is no agenda, no program, no Bible Study. Just some good old fashion food, fellowship and fun, with a little bit of music. Bring your casseroles, peach cobblers and Jell-o molds. Then, beyond Family Dinners at Grace, find a way to incorporate family dinners at home if you don’t already do them. Maybe even Sunday after church. And, pray about including some neighbors to join you around your family dinner once in a while. Let the “Drops of Grace” shared at our Family Dinners create ripple effects throughout your neighborhoods as you sit around the table with family, friends and neighbors.

THE LONGEST NIGHT Sunday Testimonies

“No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.” – Hal Borland

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

We are a church that prays! We know prayer matters. We share our testimonies, how God is at work in our lives, answering prayers. We are encouraged by those testimonies, knowing our prayers for one another, for our church, leadership and ministry teams are powerful and needed! So, thank you church, for all the times you have lifted Grace of Christ up to the Lord. Your prayers matter! In October, Prayer Ministry offered a teaching with Carla Kupp and Pastor Bill on Intercessory Prayer. We have had a great response and want to continue the teaching! Join us in January as we go through a teaching by Dutch Sheets using his book, “Intercessory Prayer.” (His book is available on Amazon or Christianbooks.com or you may be able to order it from Inklings.) Join a team to intercede, pray for a church ministry team, a Sunday service, or one of our neighbors – Adams Elementary, Madison House or Davis High School. Connect with Carla, Brooke Arkills or Ericka Clark. We will share more details on the future teachings soon! “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

– 1 John 5:14

expect that these Sunday testimonies and prayer times will be deeply healing to our church members.

This month, Prayer Ministry has invited five Grace of Christ congregants to share a testimony with you on four different Sundays. We want to acknowledge and encourage those who are experiencing struggles during this holiday season. The name the Longest Night refers to the winter solstice when the world is at its darkest, but increasing light is just around the corner. Each Sunday, the testimony will focus on a different aspect that can make this time of year difficult. It creates the acronym BLUE: Brokenness, Loneliness, Unmet expectations, and Emotions related to loss. Jeff Arkills, Monnie Miller, Danielle Woodcock, and Jake & Carla Kupp each have a testimony of God’s goodness during a dark time in their lives. At the end of the service, we invite you to come up front and receive prayer if you would like. There will be no Healing Service this month, but we hope and 21
