Senior Pastor — Pastor Jim Marian
What Do You Think of When You See the Number, 3? Well, there’s the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. How about the Three Wise Men? (And by the way, the Bible never says there were 3). Babe Ruth’s number was #3. There are the Three Musketeers, the Three Amigos and the Three Stooges too! What about Harry, Ron and Hermione? (Talk about a popular trio!) And let’s not forget the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.”
What Could "three" mean for Grace of Christ? Okay, enough of that. I just wanted to get you thinking about “three” for 2018 and what it could mean for Grace of Christ. Most churches these days ask their people to commit to 3 ministry activities each week. Do you know what they are? It’s pretty simple: 1. A commitment to attend a worship service. 2. A commitment to participate in a small group. 3. A commitment to serve in a ministry.
2
The vision for Grace of Christ is that it would be a place where everyone can Belong, Believe, Become and Bless… and those four values easily translate into the 3 commitments I am asking God for in 2018! When we commit to faithfully participating in a Sunday morning worship service and small group, we find a place to Belong and build relationships with others. We also grow as disciples of Jesus – Becoming devoted followers as we study the Bible and apply it to our lives. When we make a commitment to serve in a ministry, we Bless others with the time, talents, treasures and testimony God has given us! And as we bless others through service and ministry, we share God’s love and point people in the direction of Belief in Jesus Christ. I have observed that many of you at Grace of Christ are committed to at least 3 areas of involvement, and I’m encouraged! And for those of you that don’t know how you could possibly commit to all 3 (worship service, small group, ministry), let me encourage you: relax… wait upon the Lord through prayer…seek Him first in all aspects of your life… and see how He leads you and what doors He opens in 2018. Is there someone in your life with whom you would love to share the Christian Faith? Perhaps you should consider bringing them to Alpha. Or maybe you would simply like to understand the Christian faith better for yourself. Consider Alpha!
What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.
A typical Alpha…
Alpha runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes —you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
Food - Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other. Talk -
The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. The videos are generally thirty minutes long, explore the big issues around faith, and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?
Discussion - Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
Alpha is one of the ways God is bringing people to faith. We love it because it’s fun, interesting, non-threatening, and a natural way to invite a friend, neighbor, co-worker, or family member to explore the Christian Faith. And you get to learn, too! We will be offering a couple of opportunities to experience the 11-week Alpha Series. Why don’t you come to an introductory evening, and discover if Alpha is for you! 3

GROWTH GROUPS Growth Group Opportunity!
Looking for a way to Belong? Believe? Become? Bless? One step is getting connected in a Growth Group.
What are Growth Groups? People, meeting regularly, to grow spiritually through building meaningful Christian relationships and studying God’s word together.
A Growth Group takes our good intentions and puts them on the calendar!
Growth Groups Include:
• SHARING what is happening in our lives. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…” (Hebrews 10:24-25) • STUDYING SCRIPTURE to learn how to live out our faith in everyday life through “…teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:28) • SUPPORTING each other in practical ways, including prayer, encouragement, listening, challenging one another, and meeting needs. • SERVING together in a quarterly service activity as a group.
Winter Quarter Growth Groups
Winter Quarter Growth Groups will run the weeks of January 7 through March 11. Call the church 248-7940, or email jana@yakimagrace. com to sign up, or find out more information.

Growth Group Testimony I have been a part of small groups off and on for the “ past 20 years. When I was asked to be in a Growth Group this fall, I hesitated, asking myself if I had time. Earlier this fall I was talking to God and told Him I was ready to just say YES to whatever He was going to ask of me. So, my hesitation of wondering if I had enough time, lasted only but a moment. I said Yes and have enjoyed the experience greatly! I am in a group with three other women. We all knew of each other before our first gathering and now we are dear friends. We meet weekly to eat a simple soup dinner, talk about our week, share about our families. Then we spend an hour delving into the Word, going over the sermon notes from the previous Sunday and praying for each other. This time studying the sermon and getting into the Bible – well, it is priceless! I have committed more scripture to memory, which is helpful when praying with others. And the time with my new friends is encouraging and full of laughter. I thank God often that I said Yes.

GROWING TOGETHER
CRECIENDO JUNTOS
As we begin a new year, it has been fun looking back over the ways Gracia de Cristo has grown together this year in worshiping, study, fellowship and serving. It’s now time to look to the future God has for Gracia de Cristo/Grace of Christ together.
This psalm reminds us of how temporary we as humans (the created) are, but how the Lord is always the same. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8 It may be overwhelming, as we stand at the beginning of a brand new year wondering what the year will hold. It is much easier to think of it as one New Year, broken down into 365 installments like turning the pages of an old flip calendar.
PLANES PARA 2018
LOOKING AHEAD IN 2018 The familiar words from Jeremiah 29:11 come to mind: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” We know of some annual activities already being planned like the Adams teacher and staff appreciation dinner in early spring, the Clothing Exchange in late spring (so keep your donations tucked away to be shared), and Outreach Camp, the weekend of June, 15, 2018. We also are continuing our partnership with Adams Elementary which includes reading tutors, Bulldog Hugs, ESL, and Citizenship Classes to name a few. God has also laid on our heart to be more aggressive in reaching out to our surrounding community to share the Good News of Jesus. These are our plans, but we 5
Continued on page 6

Student Ministry — Thomas Sudbury
NEW YEAR, NEW VISION I am excited for this new season in student ministries! We have been blessed with an assistant (See below) as well as we are looking at ways to reach out to our Yakima community in practical ways in order to show everyone the hope we have found in Jesus. Over the next few months, our plan is to serve in a number of areas; Camp Hope in January, going on a Street Mission in February, Northwest Harvest in March, and helping seniors in our community in April. God has blessed our group in many ways over the past year, and we are thankful for all the people who have worked so hard to make that happen! We are going to try our best to bless others in this next Journey for Grace Student Ministries!
CHRISTMAS WAS GREAT! We are very thankful for all the opportunities that were given to the youth to belong at our youth group and church. From being involved in services to caroling and going on the Journey to Bethlehem, the group is definitely becoming a close-knit community! We appreciate all the adults who help support these things and work hard to make the youth feel welcome :)
WE HAVE A NEW STAFF MEMBER! Please help us in welcoming our newest staff member, Austyn Chynoweth, to Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church! Austyn is originally from Caldwell, Idaho and is actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has a

PRAYER MINISTRY PRAYER TESTIMONIES The Prayer Ministry Team is happy to share another testimony with you this month. Many of you know the Huck family, but you may not know how God was at work this past summer as Sarah was pregnant with baby Ella. Thank you, Marcus, for sharing this answer to prayer.
HEADING UP THE MOUNTAIN
When Sarah and I found out we were pregnant with our “fourth child, we were both excited and surprised. Having three boys already, we were anticipating if we were going to have a girl this time. Five months came fast and at the ultrasound appointment, we couldn't wait to find out the sex of the baby. But what the doctor said was both surprising and crushing. They told us we were going to have a little girl, but that she may have a disability. The doctors always tell you the percentages and not to worry, but as a family we were shattered. There were selfish reasons, saying to one another horrible things of how it was going to affect our lives. My boys were crushed and confused. Sarah and I went from 'yay, it’s a little girl!' to 'what are we going to do?' We couldn't do anything about this. There was no way to fix the outcome of a situation that would change our whole world. So, we went to Jesus. There were eight weeks from the time we heard this news to our next ultrasound appointment where they would be able to tell us for certain if she had the disability. At the beginning of these eight weeks of waiting, Sarah's friend Jamal came to town and there was a gathering at Robin Stuber’s house where the women laid hands on Sarah and prayed. That same night,
11
Sarah had a dream in which she sensed the Lord showing her that our baby would be born healthy. I prayed with Jesus often throughout the day, especially if negative thoughts came to mind. Sarah and the boys did the same. We prayed as a family every morning, noon, and night. We had friends pray, co-workers pray, and I think even Silas (our 1 ½ year old) prayed. The next appointment came and you could imagine the suspense. The doctor came into the room after another ultrasound and said that she was a healthy little girl. Even the markers that were on the ultrasound before were gone! Incredible! Praise Jesus! Sarah and I rejoiced! Our little girl’s name is Ella and she was the easiest birth my wife has had out of all four of our children. She is healthy and beautiful and our family knows there is nothing we can't do without Jesus.

MISSION MINISTRY in the YUGM’s model of dental care for the poor and noninsured. The Yakima dental clinic is being tauted as a model for other cities across the nation. It is the only existing Union Gospel Mission dental clinic in Washington state.
YAKIMA UNION GOSPEL MISSION (YUGM) “The King will reply, truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 Located at 1300 North 1st Street, the Yakima Union Gospel Mission is a sanctuary for “the least of these.” Filled with activity-and the love of Christ-the YUGM serves some 400600 meals a day, offering breakfast and two separate lunch and dinner services. There is also a Medical Care Center with an in-house laboratory and pharmacy (no narcotics). The clinic features seven exam rooms, a front office, a Monday Woman’s Clinic, orthopedic care and physical therapy. Over 200 medical personnel volunteer their time and expertise to provide exceptional care. The medical clinic also teams with Central Washington Family Medicine to provide valuable and critical experience for medical doctors in residency.
At the mission, cold weather emergency services are available to meet immediate physical needs. This includes: warming rooms, beds, meals, showers, haircuts, laundry facilities, and fresh clothing. For longer term, YUGM’s New Life Program—a residential men’s and women’s program—takes a in-depth look at the root cause of clients’ homelessness and addiction problems. The tools that are used are based on a solid biblical foundation. Participants and live-in volunteers may also receive vocational education services as well. YUGM exists to provide Christ-centered rescue, recovery and restoration to men, women and children in need. Call 509.853.4327 for more information. The “least of these” includes the hungry, thirsty, naked and impoverished, sick and those imprisoned. As Mother Teresa said of the poor, “Each one of them is Jesus in disguise.”
Averaging over 14,000 patient visits per year, YUGM is one of only a few clinics in our valley to provide free medical care to those who are homeless or are in a financial crisis. YUGM also brings full dental services to low-income individuals in our community. Comprised of one full-time dental hygienist, one dental assistant, and 28 volunteer dentists, dental services are offered to those who generally must go without out care. One volunteer dentist travels from his Seattle practice to serve because he strongly believes

MISSION MINISTRY YWAM CAMBODIA
Vision Statement: “To see an improvement in the quality of life for the general population and to have churches established throughout Stung Treng Province”
LOOKING BACK AT 2017 • We opened our brand new campus the week of
Christmas 2016, and Christmas night was the first night we slept in our new apartment as a family!
• We hosted a YWAM Leadership conference two
weeks in January, only three weeks after opening our campus, with 432 leaders and missionaries from all over Asia and 60 children!
• We have created a new leadership structure, which will frame and set up our ministry for the long haul to be sustainable and healthy for growth.
• We helped facilitate a Youth Camp during summer Holiday Greetings from the Gustafson’s in Battambang, Cambodia! This year has been the most faith-stirring, joyful, abundant year of our lives. We started out 2017 with peace in our hearts and fire in our eyes for what we felt the Lord was leading us into... continuing to be on Mission with Him in Cambodia! We have learned to love our community of about 87 staff and 30+ children and are continually committed to go together in everything we do. Through and through, God is so good and continues to root our lives into His amazing story.
15
break for youth from all over Cambodia in October, where many of them encountered Jesus and had an impactful week on our campus.
• We launched new pioneering ministries with
teams of our staff including two locations within Cambodia as well as four in neighboring countries. These teams are committed long-term to their respective locations to bring the Gospel and love of Jesus to the hardest and darkest parts of our region. Continued on page 16
Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church
MISSION MINISTRY LOOKING FORWARD TO 2018 • Our community as a whole will continue to develop our relationships with those we daily reach out to, continuing to push for more evangelism and discipleship.
• Our new campus’ Phase 1 is almost complete (includes the Cafeteria, three dorm buildings, one family housing building, as the Training Center which hosts all of training school classrooms, office space as well as is a community center to the local neighborhood). However, we need wisdom and discernment for what is important and crucial to build for Phase 2.
PRAYER FOR THE GUSTAFSON’S • Pray for our ministry, for a spirit of humility and
urgency for the Gospel to be shared to those we are all connected with each day.
• Pray for wisdom as we continue to lead and
minister to our staff, students and those in the local community. We need full commitment and dependence solely on Jesus to lead us.
We are ever grateful for the way that the Lord has provided “our daily bread” for our family year after year - He uses faithful people like you! Thank you to all of our faithful monthly supporters and prayer warriors and it is a privilege to partner with us all to serve Jesus in Cambodia and around the world.
