GOD APPOINTS LEADERS
“And David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the wilderness of Ziph (An area south of Jerusalem). And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand. David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. And Jonathan, Saul's son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. And he said to him, ‘Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.’” – 1 Samuel 23
If we think we live in a time of political confusion, division, mistrust, it might help to remind ourselves what took place in the nation of Israel, three thousand years past.
From the beginning, God intended that His people (Israel) would be different from every other nation. All of the other nations crowned human kings. Not Israel. All of the other nations trusted human kings to bring them victory in battle. Not Israel. All of the other nations worshiped whatever god or gods their king preferred. Not Israel. Israel would not put their trust in human kings or human power. Israel would have only One King, God Himself. God would provide victory in battle. God would be the One and Only object of their worship.
And then it happened. The people of Israel demanded a human king. God told Samuel... “they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them”...give them what they want. And so Samuel did. The person selected to be their human king seemed the obvious choice. He was tall, handsome, young, and he came from wealth. When Samuel anointed Saul king all shouted, “Long live the king.” After a decent start Saul stumbled. Inwardly he had already turned away from God. God selected another king. Saul refused to step aside. He spent years trying to hold onto his position and power. He went so far as to try to murder his replacement. Saul’s legacy ended tragically, covered in blood. There is something seductive about power. It’s often subtle at first. And then our appetite grows. And, if we are not careful, we will find ourselves so far in, we no longer see our position as an opportunity to serve God and others, but instead we convince ourselves it is ours by right. We try to hold on and we disregard the clear voice of God in scripture and soul. But, fighting God’s plans, as a nation, as a church, individually, never ends well.
What if, instead of fighting God’s plans, we quickly step aside? What if, when God clearly chooses another, we give up our claim to power and supported them? Power is dangerous... unless we remember all power, whatever power we have, belongs to God. Humbly struggling with the power, position, and influence, God has given me... for now.

EXCERPT FROM “LIVING IN AN ATOMIC AGE”
C.S. Lewis “Living in an Atomic Age” 1948
“In one way we think a great deal too much of the atomic bomb. ‘How are we to live in an atomic age?’ I am tempted to reply: ‘Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat any night; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer... an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents... If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things — praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts — not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds.”

CAMINAR CON FE EN DIOS
WALKING WITH FAITH IN GOD
It is very interesting how we learn to live according to the circumstances of life. Things are constantly changing and so are we. The problem is that not all of us can go with the change, especially in the area of technology. Fortunately, God never changes nor does His Word. His Word inspires us to follow His ways, to love Him, and to love and serve others. Read your Bible and a devotional every day, it is good for you! God can help you cope with changes; God is faithful to His Word, and we should trust in Him.
“I said, “O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are [eternal] throughout all generations. “At the beginning You founded the earth; the heavens are the work of Your hands. “Even they will perish, but You endure; yes, all of them will wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they shall be changed. “But You remain the same, and Your years will never end. “The children of Your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before You.” – Psalm 102: 24-27
Please add the Lord’s Prayer to your daily reading & prayer.
The Lord's Prayer – Matthew 6:9-13
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
WELCOME AARON!
You’ve most likely seen Aaron on Sunday mornings as security around the church campus. Or maybe you’ve seen him hanging out with the Youth and his wife, Kara, our Student Ministry Director. Aaron wears many hats and in June he joined our administrative staff. He covers our main office Monday through Thursday part time, and we are so glad he is there! A man of many talents, he has made the transition of saying goodbye to Jennifer easier. Please give him a warm welcome the next time you are in the office.

PAINTING PAWS
What a great opportunity for our church to be able to serve at Adams Elementary School by painting colorful Bulldog Paws in all the entrances of the school where the students line up with their teachers. There will be more opportunities to paint in the play areas at Adams. Please let us know if you would like help.
PINTANDO PATITAS
ADAM OPEN HOUSE
Monday, August 21 was a wonderful day at Adams Elementary. Many families brought their students to meet their teachers and school administrators. Families were enjoying the anticipation of the start of the new school year. Our Grace of Christ pastors and volunteers welcomed them with delicious BBQ burgers. We also got to share the Light, Love and Warmth of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. Every day we give thanks and pray for Adams school and their families.
“Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives and welcomes one child like this in My name receives Me.”

KONA MISSION TRIP REPORT - JUNE 8-14, 2023
Caroline Sundquist and Elizabeth Williams, Trip Leaders
Things to be grateful for:
• Seattle to HI plane delayed since we were a touch late
• Air BNB in a peaceful, serene location
• New friendships made
• Encouraging Aaron and Ronda Barker
• Time to talk about “God Sightings” each night
We helped manage nine stations: welcome, bouncy house, recreation games, Fruits of the Spirit story, the gospel message with a piece of paper, face painting, balloon animals, original design activity, snacks. If the members of our mission group hadn’t been there, Aaron’s church would not have been able to hold this event. Not enough of his members to man the different stations.
• Lead two Sunday Worship services with Rob and Darlene Fairbrook and Kara Brown leading worship songs and Belen Vasquez sharing her personal testimony.
Highlights:
• Worshipping at YWAM, seeing God moving in a mighty way
• Touring YWAM and seeing the scope of mission oureach. Inspired to do more for Christ. Belen’s testimony at church and YWAM.
• Fruit of the Spirit children’s festival serving Aaron’s church, during the King Kamehameha Days Parade held on the street in front of the church, reaching almost 90 kids and their parents.

Preparing Sack Lunches
• Worked with the Habitat ReStore organizing their warehouse and store. They have not had any volunteers since CoVid. Seven of our members picked up garbage on the exterior of the building, organized and sorted tiles and books that had been donated.
• At the same time as the Habitat project was going on, the other eight members presented a 5-day VBS program in one day in the Habitat apartment complex next to the ReStore. Approximately 40 kids heard the story of Joseph and the gospel message. We also had a time of recreation and the imagination station that we have used at our VBS in the last several years. A fantastic opportunity that opened the door for Aaron’s church and YWAM to continue ministry in the low-income neighborhood.
• Caroline, Elizabeth and Belen went back to YWAM on Tuesday morning, our last day, and presented the “Gospel with a Piece Paper” to the children who will be leaving in 10 days to go to the mission field. We have given them a tool to use wherever they are to share the gospel simply with a piece of paper, napkin, etc,. Belen gave her testimony. The teacher was excited about Belen’s testimony, because these kids were going to be preparing their own personal testimonies next week before leaving on their mission with their parents.
A Day of Relaxation
Additional Fun Experiences:
• On Sunday, nine team members went on a night manta ray snorkeling adventure, the remaining six went out to dinner together.
• We went to Papa Kona’s Restaurant where Aaron was performing. We had a blast together supporting Aaron. He loved having “509” in the house!
• We had a relaxing, fun day on the beach with Ronda and ended the day at a dinner hosted in the Barker’s home.
Thank you congregation and a special thank you to Mission Ministry Team member Don Stuber, for sending us on this amazing mission trip. We thank you for providing scholarships through the “Great Commission Fund” for a few of our members. Bless you as you continue to seek out new opportunities to send out missionaries from our church.

REMEMBERING MARTA “MAMA-MAMAYE”
APRIL 10, 1932-MAY 21, 2023
Marta Gabre-Tsadick was born on April 10, 1932 in the Atkarar Wolega Province of Western Ethiopia to parents Gabre-Tsadick Aliye and Woletemeskel. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2023 in her hometown of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her extraordinary life was that of service and dedication to her beloved country and unto the Lord. Because of her life well lived, and her global and spiritual impact, four memorial services commemorated her life. Her funeral and memorial services took place in her beloved country in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Thursday, May 25th. Here, both the President of Ethiopia and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia were present. Pastor Tolesa Gudina officiated at the service that was filled with an outpouring of love, respect and honor for Marta. The people of Yetebon also were able to pay their respects as an additional service was held there, allowing many to attend without the burden of travel and expenses. A memorial was also held in Washington DC on July 8th at the Ethiopian Evangelical Church (where Pastor Tolesa Gudina also officiated), and an additional Celebration of Life took place in Fort Wayne, Indianna where Project Mercy, the non-profit organization that Marta co-founded is headquartered.
Senator, Ethiopian Parliament CEO of Project Mercy
Marta was noted for being the first and only female senator to join the Ethiopian Parliament during the reign of Emperor Haile Selassie. She also served as the CEO of Project Mercy, and above all, she was known for being a woman of prayer. Close to her heavenly Father, she found daily guidance from His words.
Marta began her education at her local school, but soon her brilliance and drive led her to the prestigious Empress Menon Girls’ Boarding School in Addis Ababa. She excelled in her studies and earned a national award that was bestowed upon her by his Imperial Majesty, the Emperor Haile Selassie and Empress Menon Asfaw.
In 1947, following custom at the time, an arranged marriage to Peder Myhre, a Norwegian missionary, took place. The couple were blessed with children Samuel Metiku and Michael Tesfaye (Sammy and Mickey). In 1954, Marta ven-
Deme and Marta “Mama-Mamaye”
tured to the United States for the first time, to be part of a young scholars’ program established by the Emperor. It required Marta to leave her young children in the care of her mother. While in America, Marta gave birth to her third child, daughter Yemisrach Bereket (known as Yemi or Priscilla). Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from Adams State University (1954-1958), she returned to Ethiopia and learned of the tragic death of her husband Peder.
Ministry of Education Liaison
Consequently, she started working as a Point Four Education Program Liaison Officer in the Ministry of Education, appointed by Emperor Haile Selassie to the position. Recognizing her competency, only one month later she was selected by His Majesty for greater responsibilities in the Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Office. The Emperor assigned her to represent Ethiopia in Italy, Israel, Russia, America, England, Canada, and elsewhere.
Foreign Affairs
While serving in her appointed Foreign Affairs position, Marta was reunited (or perhaps divinely appointed) with another student whom she had met during her university studies in the United States. His name was Demeke Tekle-Wold. This would evolve into marriage, a true love story, and a life-long partnership that lasted over six decades. Marta and Demeke (Deme) both served as government officials in various positions. The couple were blessed with sons Bete Fesum and Desalegne Laibela.
Escaping the Communist Revolution
By 1974, Ethiopia was in turmoil with the communist revolution threatening the lives of all high-ranking government officials. This threat included Marta. Marked for death, the young family miraculously exited the country following a tip-off of the planned arrest and certain execution.

Sheltered by the King
By Marta Gabre-Tsadick
Project Mercy
Marta and Deme escaped with three of their children, eventually continuing to flee to Nairobi. After some time, unbelievably they made it to America as refugees, uniting them with their two other children. The family found sanctuary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, sponsored by a local church. Marta vowed to never forget her native land. The remarkable story of their escape is told in her book, SHELTERED BY THE KING.
Marta was fueled by deep compassion and a solidarity with other global refugees. She and Deme partnered with their Fort Wayne, Indiana friends, Reverend Chuck and Fran Dickinson, and established Project Mercy in 1977. By and by, Project Mercy would become her life’s passion, devoting nearly every waking minute to helping the poor and Ethiopia. In the 80’s and through the 90’s, Marta initiated innovative food and sewing programs that enabled Project Mercy to distribute food and clothing to hundreds of thousands of starving, needy refugees from Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
Atmit - Food Porridge
Ingeniously, Marta developed an easily digestible Ethiopia porridge-like food comprised of rolled oats, powdered milk, powdered sugar, vitamins and minerals, saving untold people from starvation. This product was shared with other relief organizations and its formula is still being used today.
Community Development Program
In 1991, following the end of the communist regime, Marta returned to Ethiopia to help rebuild her country. By 1993, Deme would join her, and together, they would become an unstoppable force for the good of Ethiopia. “Renewing the heart of a nation” began their mission, establishing a partnership between the elders of Yetebon, Ethiopia and Project Mercy. This created the pathway for the current community development program.
Marta and Deme’s initiatives spanned the nation, but were particularly focused upon the Southern region, establishing a thriving community in Yetebon, once one of the poorest areas of Ethiopia. Their work has since expanded to the Amhara region, where groundbreaking work is now being done through their Chacha dairy cattle breeding program.
Project Mercy continues to thrive and presently is the most complete development project in the world for an organization of its size still holding true to Marta’s community development model.
“Mama-Mamaye”
Marta was lovingly referred to as “Mama-Mamaye” and “Etemete”, recognizing her maternal guidance and love for children. Besides being a devoted mother to her five biological children and seven adopted children, she was a faithful mother-figure to countless others and greatly revered. Marta was blessed with nine grandchildren and a set of twin grandsons. Adored by all, Marta will be greatly missed. As Ed Memmen, Project Mercy Chairman of the Board stated at her Washington DC memorial, “It is God’s light within her that we are all drawn to.”

MISSION UPDATE: HOME OF LOVE
If only we could all be in Battambang, Cambodia to witness the changes and improvements that are taking place, we would find it amazing. It is Grace of Christ reaching out across the world to make a difference to those who are loving the children in Battambang. Demolition of the old roof started in early June and by mid-June the construction of the new roof was started. Skilled workers fabricated a strongly built roof, which improved the function of the roofing system. In addition, changes were made in the dorms by designing smaller rooms to provide more privacy for the residents.
God stirred the heart of a generous person who saw a need for new beds for the children. The previous beds were made of metal, had broken legs, and had minimal padding over the metal grates. Because of a generous donation, soon the rooms will have beds constructed from wood and 30 brand new comfortable mattresses for a good night’s rest. Praise God for multiplying the gifts that will bless this orphanage. We would like to ask you to be in prayer for monies to be given for paint to be used for the dormitory rooms, and for provision of materials to lay a concrete landing in front of the dorms. Without a cement landing, the heavy rains make for a mud hole in front of the rooms. If you feel led to give to this need, please contact a member of the Friends of Battambang team.
We are praising God for our church family and for the blessings that have come from our involvement in this ministry. Thank You, Dear Church Family!

MISSION UPDATE: STAN & AIMEE IN ZAGREB
After a long summer of record heat and spotty air conditioning, Aimee (Berndt) and Stan Christopherson continue to persevere and work in Croatia to serve refugee families from Ukraine now residing in Croatia.
During the summer, three Ukrainian refugee families joined the Christophersons for worship at their present church’s service. It was the first Protestant worship service these Ukrainian families had attended. Dr. Joe Gorman, from Northwest Nazarene University, led the service. The Lord was praised in interspersed English, Croatian, Arabic and Ukrainian. The theme for the retreat was “Centered in God”, and resulted in many stories of faith being shared. Stan Christopherson stated, “This is a good reminder that NOTHING is impossible, or too big for God.”
As the season of fall quickly progresses, please keep our missionaries, and in particular the Christophersons, in your prayers.
Specific prayer requests include:
• Stan: The finalizing of his visa.
• Aimee: Prayers for us and our two adult children who are facing significant difficulties in their care (wisdom on how to best more forward). Also, having a broken tooth, how to navigate Croatian dentistry.
• Compassionate Ministry: Need for services to expand. Wisdom and discernment as we work to meet the needs of both refugees and local residents.

Kona MissionTrip
We started the summer with a bonfire at the Merrill’s. That was a great night to remember. That same week, two of our youth and three of our youth leaders joined the Kona Missions Team and had a life changing time serving through YWAM and the local Mokaikau church. Following that, we commenced our weekly pool parties.
About mid-August we had our big finish with the traditional “International Water Fight Day”! Now that was a blast. Oh, but don’t forget about camps at Ghormley! We had some kiddos go to both Mid-High and to Water Ski camps. We had one girl go to her first summer camp and she gave her life to Jesus that week at Mid-High Camp. How exciting is that!
Praise God! At Water-Ski Camp, we also had the opportunity to witness the movement of the Holy Spirit with two important Baptisms.
To go to camp, some students have been fundraising by working for some members of our congregation doing yard work. We know it’s been appreciated by both parties! So, thank you for the opportunity to serve and earn!

Family & Children’s Ministry
— Sarah Huck Family & Children's Ministry Director
Greetings Grace Families,
Our family loves Camano Island. The charm, the ocean, the views – it can’t be beat! So, a couple of years ago, we decided to go there for vacation and diligently began the search for the perfect rental. Right on the water, of course, with a beach for the kids. And we found it! Or so we thought. It had everything we wanted, including water toys. The first morning, as we were planning our day, we noticed the tide was going out... and out... and then it went so far out we couldn’t even see the water! We were perplexed, puzzled, and mystified. What were we going to do? We had planned on being in the water all day, but now there was no water, just one giant mud flat. Fortunately, or at least I thought so, my husband had a brilliant idea. If the ocean wouldn’t come to us, we would go to the ocean. He loaded up the littles in a kayak and hooked on a rope to drag it on top of the mud. The older boys did the same with their kayaks, and I picked up my paddleboard. We began our journey to the ocean.
THIS GOD – HIS WAY IS PERFECT THE WORD OF THE LORD PROVES TRUE HE IS A SHIELD FOR ALL THOSE WHO take refuge in
SUNDAY MORNING SUMMER FUN
This summer instead of going upstairs for our regular Sunday School time the kids enjoyed a fun change in their routine. A little more like VBS, this summer has been filled with fun crafts in the gym and a brief lesson with games on the North Lawn.
As the sun continued to get higher in the sky and the day hotter, there was still no water in sight. I began to question whether this was a good idea. Marc kept encouraging us, “Just a little further” and “I think that’s water ahead.” But awhile later, there was absolutely no water, not even a tide pool. We kept trudging on, our minds playing tricks on us, believing there were waves when really it was just the heat rising from the mud.
Finally, at the end of my rope – literally, because by now I’d deserted my paddleboard about a mile back on the flats, too tired to drag it – I told Marc, we had to go back. This felt
It was so good to see our Grace Kids attend throughout the summer. We welcomed several visiting families and made some new friends as well!

insane. We were not going to find the ocean in this lifetime. Marc agreed, and we began the journey back. That was when the day turned from bad to worse.
I don’t know why, but the mud we had been able to walk on, was now turning soft and mushy. Was the tide coming back in under the mud? We couldn’t figure it out! Within an hour, we could hardly walk. With every step we took, we sunk in the mud. We had to dig ourselves out of holes and crawl on our hands and knees at times. It was awful, exhausting, and scary. We were expending so much energy digging and crawling, digging and crawling. Tired, and thirsty, I thought we would never reach our beach house. And when we did, we were too exhausted to talk.
The perfect rental house and Camano experience was not what we’d expected. From the VRBO rental page, I’d imagined how things would be. But they weren’t. Yet, as we ate dinner that night, the ocean magically appeared, coming in as fast as it had gone out.
God often speaks to me through life experiences. Just as Jesus taught through parables, my life seems parabolical at times. I was reminded of this frustrating Camano visit while thinking about an expectation I’ve had about the Christian life. Does that sound familiar to anyone? I realized I believed that with persistence, patience, strength, and prayer, things
would turn out like I wanted them to – like I expected. I’d seen the online listing for the vacation rental, and I expected the ocean to be right there all the time. I’ve read the promises in the Bible, and while I’ve known the Christian life would not be easy – after all, there is a cross is involved – I realized I believed that if I followed Jesus whole-heartedly, prayed, tithed, served, ministered, etc, then I would find what I expected. For example, I realized I believed that I could guarantee the outcome of my children’s lives by my behavior, by my choices. It turns out I had an unspoken, invisible, nonverbal expectation of my children, myself, and of God.
God is good and faithful to bring those things that are hidden in the recesses of our minds to light. He loves us so much that when our prayer is, change me, Lord. Show me where I am out of alignment. Reveal to me the things that are in the dark, He is faithful, gentle, and loving to do so.
All of our lives are made up of the amazing, fun, exciting, painful, disappointing, and challenging times – as well as the unexpected. But perhaps by getting God’s perspective and lining up our thoughts with His, we can avoid unnecessary stress – avoid walking through soft mud because we’ve taken things into our own hands and made assumptions. And sometimes we wait, for our perfect God to bring the ocean to us, to show us His timing and ways. It’s a beautiful way to live.
Thank you to the wonderful Sunday School Teachers who spent this summer filling our kids with fun and truth!
FAMILY POOL PARTIES
Family at Grace hosted a pool party at the Licht’s in July, and we had so much fun! We had a great turnout of families, and children of all ages. We were blessed to have our very own lifeguard Shanna and a doctor on sight, always a relief! Thank you, Licht’s!

BACKPACK BLESSINGS
Grace of Christ sent children back to school with a bag tag and a blessing! On Sunday, August 20, we had new backpacks which were donated by our church family for those kiddos who needed one. We took a moment in our worship service to bless the backpacks and the kids. Each student received a tag to put on their backpack to remind them God is with them in their daily life and that their church family will be praying for them throughout the year. It was a great morning seeing the love of Jesus wash over the children and families. God is good!
MATTHEW GIUSSI BAPTISM
On Sunday, July 30 our church family celebrated the baptism of new covenant partner Matthew Giussi (with wife Contessa.)

Welcome Back, Preschool!
We’re welcoming back teachers, students, and families to a new school year! God has continued to grow our program this year. Our main floor classroom continues to be our 2 Day and 3 Day preschool. Our Pre-K has added a 4 Day option to help with family schedules. We have also moved Pre-K to the mezzanine level for easier access to the playground, bathrooms, parking lot, and gym. Come say hello to our teachers and students when you’re in the building this fall!
Growing in God’s Love
This year our Chapel Theme is The Fruit of the Spirit. Each month we will be learning about each fruit (love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, and self control). Our Bible theme verses for the year are from John 15.
Verse 5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Verse 16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.
So many people talk about planting seeds in our children to grow and bear fruit LATER. However, these children are bearing fruit NOW. We could all take a lesson from these children about how to show the love, patience, and joy of the Spirit. Watch and see how much more God will do through these little lives!
Donations Ideas
Each year people are eager to donate items to help with our program needs. We always appreciate any support we receive, but ongoing needs include: Kleenex, Clorox wipes, white/clear glue sticks, Lysol spray, washable markers, expo markers, construction paper, stickers, and unopened snacks like goldfish crackers or fruit snacks. Thank you!

WOMEN’S RETREAT–COME TO THE TABLE
OCTOBER 20-22 | CAMPBELL’S RESORT, LAKE CHELAN
“I thought about coming,” the woman I called said, “but I didn’t know anyone else going or who I’d sit with. Um...” she paused, “...thank you. I’d love to be at your table.” She wasn’t a woman I knew well. But I’d seen her often at church. She showed up. And I was glad for an opportunity to know more about her, not just her name. Why had she chosen to be a part of Grace? What filled her days? What did we have in common? I‘d find out as we sat at the same table.
Lunch, coffee, planning, or retreat tables – often we long to be invited. Not just through an announcement on the Sunday morning screen or online. But personally, by a sister-in-Christ. It’s so easy for people to feel overlooked or awkward, not knowing how to join in. On the other hand, some of us don’t feel as if we keep up with those we already know and become protective of our time, staying with what we know fits, like an old comfortable pair of jeans.
Yes, we need to use our limited time wisely. But I want to invite the women of Grace to look beyond the people who are in front of you. Look around you. Are there women who are yearning for an invitation, not just a casual conversation but an invitation to something more, something deeper? We’ve all been that woman at some time. Many would say “I know I can come, but I’ve never been invited.”
This fall we have an opportunity to ALL come to HIS table. I encourage you to show-up at our October women’s retreat. There is a place for you. There is room in our hearts for you. You are invited, just as you are. “For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.”
Psalms 107:9
COME TO THE TABLE, RETREAT INVITATION
So often we speak of the good things God has for us, but sometimes we forget to receive those good things. The God who forms us and weaves our story together, longs to fill us and provide good things that sustain and fulfill our body, heart, soul and mind. We get to pause and make space to allow God
to do what only He can do. Join us for a weekend of coming to the table to receive, restore and renew our intimacy with God and all that He has for us in this formed life we live.

THANK YOU!
A big Thank You goes out to Linda Mathews, who is currently the lone Chairperson for the Hospitality Ministry Team (HMT) since the stepping back of Linda Sorensen. Thank you, Linda Sorensen, for all the hours, expertise, love and co-leadership you have provided this team.
The HMT consists of a Volunteer Board and numerous volunteers. The Board meets every other month and keeps Session up to date on the activities of the team. Members of the Board are Linda Mathews, Donny Ide, Joann Benson, Dave Whiteside, Linda Drumhiller and Cathy Campbell. Committees include Greeters, Ushers, Refreshments, Welcome Center, and Events.
It has been a light summer for the committee members, but the need for volunteers has not let up. We are grateful for our current volunteers and could not manage effectively without them carrying out the duties of each committee. Currently, volunteers are needed for all committees. The more volunteers we have, the less amount of time each volunteer is needed to cover the openings on the schedule. If you are interested in learning more about any of the committees and their needs, or want to volunteer, please contact Linda Mathews at 509-697-3013. She will provide information or direct you to the committee Chair. There are sign-up sheets available at the Welcome Center, in the Garden Room, for both the Welcome Center and Greeters.
WELCOME GUESTS!
We have special guest bags at the Welcome Center. If you know or become aware of a guest or guests during or after the service, please guide them to the Welcome Center where they can be introduced and given a Guest Bag. This will help introduce them to Grace of Christ.
SUMMER EVENTS
• The 4th of July was celebrated with a root beer float & ice-cream social in the Garden room between services.
• A 90th birthday celebration for Kathryn Russell was held Saturday, July 8th on the lawn at the home of Diane and Bruce Drollinger. Fifty plus family members were in attendance. This included all but about three members of her family (children, grandchildren, great grandchildren) who traveled from as far away as New York, Minnesota, Kansas and Florida. The family sang a song at the 11:00 service on Sunday. What a blessed tribute.
• Grace of Christ usually has an all-church potluck for Thanksgiving, a kick-off for the winter season. This year is no exception. More information will be available as planning comes together.

SUMMER CAMP RECAP
We are praising God for a great summer of ministry here at camp! Not including Outreach Camp and summer rental groups, just short of 500 youth attended camp this summer, which meant we had several full weeks of camp!
Our theme this summer was “Eternal Summer” from 1 Corinthians 13:12. Our camp speakers helped campers to grow in their understanding of what it means to have hope today in light of what we know lies ahead as believers in Jesus.
Campers got to enjoy amazing camp activities such as a Glow-In-The-Dark Pool Party, Silent Disco (each camper had their own pair of earphones!), Redneck Night (think mullets and mustaches!), and lots of great traditional camp activities like Horseback Riding, Zipline, and Paintball!
Thank you to all who contributed to make this years summer camps possible. We are already looking forward to 2024 and can’t wait to see God continue to work in the lives of the young people who attended camp this summer.

Sharing Life Together at Grace
ber 1 through 21 for students returning to school. We can go to battle for our students with the word of God and our prayers. We invite you to set aside the first 21 days of September to pray for our youth, the next generation. Paper and digital copies will be available August 25 at the church, and on website YakimaGrace.com.
GRACE SCHOOL OF MINISTRY & LEADERSHIP
We have a few exciting updates to share with you regarding the intern program! Firstly, we have decided to revamp the name, (hopefully you weren’t too attached to the last one already). We’ll be calling it the “Grace School of Ministry and Leadership.” The new name clearly communicates all we hope to nurture and bring forth in the young adults we’ll be working with.
Our second piece of great news is that we now have an Intern Director! We’d like to give a warm Grace welcome to Larissa Belknap. Larissa has been highly involved in Young Life in our community as well as at Riverside Christian School. She has two college–aged students herself. She brings a joyful disposition and a sincere desire to help young adults grow closer to Jesus and hone their calling in their faith, life, and ministry journeys. We are so grateful to God for providing such a qualified and caring individual with a perfect passion for the job! Stay tuned for the introduction of our 2023-2024 interns themselves in the next Grace Alive issue!
PRAY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
Prayer Alert September 1st through the 21st, a time to pray for students as they return to school.
The young people of today are facing challenges we never imagined facing as a child and teen. We want our kids to grow up in a safe environment, choose healthy habits and have a strong foundation in their faith. Unfortunately, there re forces trying desperately to erase any thought of God in our schools and society. But we are not powerless to intervene. Praying for the next generation is one of the most powerful things we can do for them.
The Prayer Priority Team has prepared a 21 day Pray for the Next Generation prayer guide with the idea that our Grace of Christ family would join together to pray daily, Septem-
