Executive Director’s Letter Patricia Sierra
In Colombia, with the participation of different actors, it becomes increasingly visible role quality education for all, as the first item on the agenda of the country. This is the way we decided to move 10 years ago, seeking to children of our country to write its history and especially its present. Pies Descalzos Foundation are committed to quality primary and secondary education for all and all, as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "an education from cradle to grave, unhappy and reflective, we inspire a new way of thinking" . A school that gives every child the opportunity to achieve their dreams and achieve their goals in life.

Performance Report
I could tell thousands of stories of children, youth, parents and community members who have gone through these schools: Juan Carlos and Monica, their persistence and tenacity to be great professionals without forgetting its community; Angie, who has her profession seeking the way to support the growth of other, Victoria, mother and leader whom we gave happiness when we bring a school to the community. So many people that have passed, leaving its mark on their communities and on us.
We have implemented over the years, a comprehensive intervention model, through the Open School strategy that links three strategic lines: Quality Education, Nutrition and Life Tools. In 2012 we worked with about 5,000 children in Public Schools we support, in four regions of Colombia: Soacha in Cundinamarca, in the commune IV of CazucĂĄ, second most populous municipality with just over 63,000 inhabitants in the township “La Playaâ€? Atlantic department with 21,400 inhabitants, Quibdo, in the department of Choco, in the Commune VI with about 17,800 inhabitants and Lomas del Peye, Cartagena Town one of more than 33,000 inhabitants. We have identified differential experiences in each region to share and define specific interventions in each. This result is part of the confidence and respect for local initiatives and the desire to add and to contribute from our experience.
It is satisfying to see how increasingly supported by Pies Descalzos schools become a stage for the construction of public-private synergies to provide quality education in this regard we welcome the Municipal Education Secretary actors who were very important during in 2012. It remains for me to thank the opportunity, support, apprenticeships this year and tell them from the Pies Descalzso Foundation is proud of the work of these 10 years and we have to immense challenges. Many companies and volunteers who appreciate their commitment to support these challenges and make them yours. Rectors, teachers and families, thank you for your trust and support. Likewise, my appreciation and gratitude to Maria Emma Mejia and my team for their effort, happiness and passion to make possible the achievement of our mission. I'm sure you only learn and build when we do it together. Thanks to everyone for their confidence.

Nestor MartĂnez Rector IED Pies Descalzos Foundation Barranquilla
Experience as Rector The charge of Rector of Pies Descalzos Foundation school has made a significant experience from the personal and professional field due to learning I've had for four years and could be summarized in the leadership of an education project . Appropriating power and defend a proposal differential between the public and private sector, has allowed me to learn to work together to receive support from the pedagogical , organizational and community service, in the context where the school is located. This has meant learning to live with a whole education community with different interests and get ownership and sensitization of Pies Descalzos model changing behaviors , skills and attitudes of those coadministered the institution and those served .
Over time, we have become benchmarks of Barranquilla as organization proposing projects beneficial to the community and throughout the District, for the support we receive and deliver in the search for better living conditions and contribute to development. We have achieved an integration between the institution and the Foundation as a whole seeking quality education of management, administrative, educational and community processes. Sharing expertise in various places in Colombia with colleagues from other cities , colleagues from other sister institutions, meet many people from around the world, learn protocol , to interact with various media in the region of Colombia and the world, have helped me be a better person , with a broad vision of the world and committed to the challenge of transforming a community equity and social projection.

I'm Angie Paola Rodriguez Salgado, I'm 19 years old and my biggest dream is to finish my professional studies at the Autonoma University of the Caribbean, where I am currently doing my 5th semester in the Business Administration program. All this is thanks to the help Pies Descalzos Foundation and Venus Colombian Company, who gave me the opportunity to have a scholarship to train as a professional in this university. Currently, I’m doing my social work (coop placement) at the Pies Descalzos Foundation as director of REC group (Young Educators in Social Communication) this is one of my passions, which I exercised it a year ago in a workshop.

Walking through the world I know! I come from Macedonia, a small country located in Eastern Europe and 8 years ago I went to study in France where I finished my Masters and now I am working and doing a doctorate. I toured different countries, but one of my best experiences have been living in Colombia for 6 months where I volunteered for the Pies Desclazos Foundation. While I was doing volunteer work at the Pies Descalzos school in La Playa, Barranquilla, I was working directly with children and teaching them english and basic administration, I learned a lot doing surveys with parents to complete a database that is used today for the Pies Descalzos Foundation program, Plan Padrino (Godparent Program).

Performance Report
At the same time I did my volunteering, I was doing academic research on the organization of a community of people displaced by economic reasons and armed conflict caming to the final conclution that the school built by the Pies Descalzos Foundation at La Playa, Barranquilla, serves as a community center where not only children have the opportunity to study in very good conditions, but also parents.
Also children who do not study there and their families come to participate in workshops, organized sporting events and shows. When I returned the following year for a few days to visit all my friends in Barranquilla, I saw a big change, a visible development but above all a social unity that was not always there.
What the volunteers receive from the children in return is love and love without limits; it’s incomparable with the little that we, the volunteers, can give them. With the love from all the people I met in Colombia and who allowed me to feel at home.
My experience in Soacha was different, but also very positive. I worked in Altos de Cazuca in schools Gabriel Garcia Marquez and “Minuto de Dios. There I worked directly with teens, children teaching english workshops. Altos de Cazuca is a marginal, but with the support of volunteers dedicated to the community and the Pies Descalzos team, we begin to see changes. What is missing are even more volunteers, travelers, people willing to help and live with the people of Colombia for a few months.

Jorge Andres Zuluaga Sierra CEO Venus Colombia S.A.
When we started working with the Foundation seven years ago, our support was based on donations of shoes for students from different Pies Descalzos schools, as the one located in the village of La Playa, Barranquilla. However, as we met the Foundation and especially its students, we discovered that there was great potential in these young people. So, looking for ways to articulate our Corporate Social Responsibility policy with this community, to develop actions for social inclusion through access to education. With the Educational Grants Program. We have taken the opportunity to 6 young Pies Descalzos school graduates to continue their learning process, entering institutions of higher education. Our goal is to continue to strengthen this important partnership, which ensures greater longterm involvement of children and youth of the Pies Descalzos Foundation and allow us to accompany the realization of their dreams.

Both are interested in helping the developing world in a sustainable way and we believe that education is the best tool to achieve this. For this reason, since 2010 we decided to sponsor a child, Dazael from the Pies Descalzos Foundation in Barranquilla. Why we chose to support the Pies Descalzos Foundation?
