LA CASONA BOUTIQUE HOTEL

LOOKBOOK 2021-2022

Following extensive restoration works, our white stucco mansion recovered its former glory and started a new life as a luxury boutique hotel in May 2021. THE HOUSE Built in the Belle Époque style, our historic mansion was built as a seaside retreat for the García Bedoya family during Augusto Leguía’s presidency in the 1920s. Designed by renowned French architect Claude Sahut, who was the visionary behind many of Lima’s main avenues, parks, theaters, and public buildings. The architectural features and unique style of La Casona reflect the festive spirit of the time. Construction was

completed in 1914 and the mansion featured imported Italian marble and exotic woods, as well as an ornate façade, stratospherically high ceilings with “teatinas” (a unique style of skylight favored at the time), open balconies, and spacious terraces.

ARTISTIC VISION There is nothing more valuable than an artefact crafted by the hands of another being. A vital part of our culture, the work of local and Latin American artists illuminates the halls of our mansion. We have curated a collection of art works, crafts and souvenirs, so that you can take a little piece of Hotel La Casona home. Hotel La Casona houses its own unique art collection with over 300 original works of art and installations spread across the premises. In-depth tours with the curator are available as part of our Experiences.

THE BO DISTRIC

OHIMIAN CT

Barranco is the smallest district in Lima. Founded in 1874, it was often used as a summer destination for travelers and the upper class residents of Lima. Given the neighborhood’s beautiful, cliff side surroundings, it’s not at all surprising that this was a popular spot in the 19th century.Today it’s still an attractive, laid-back

neighborhood with lots of charm. Barranco’s streets are lined with coloniahouses and flower-filled parks. It’s one of Lima’s most romantic and bohemian destinations, many of Peru’s best artists, musicians, and photographers live or work here. There are all sorts of bars and restaurants in Barranco, as well as good views of the water. As such, Barranco is a nice place to spend the afternoon strolling around. Some bars also host live music. Entering the Barranco neighborhood of Lima is sort of like entering Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. No, there isn’t a chocolate river or edible flowers and trees, but it’s a lively respite from the moody skies and gray clouds lurking above Lima. Known as the SoHo of Lima, Barranco is one of the city’s hippest neighborhoods, with colorful street art, tucked away bars and old coffee shops, vibrant old mansions and summer houses, beautiful museums, delicious food, and plenty of bohemian vibes.

STAY IN A QUIET PLACE If Lima is considered a chaotic, bustling, messy, and traditional city, then Barranco could be considered its opposite point. It has multicolored facades, it is very relaxed, picturesque, and a central point for all artists looking for that area where inspiration never dies. Therefore, if you are looking for things to do in Barranco and where to rest, we highly recommend staying in one of its many wonderful hotels or resorts.

ENJOY STREET ART One of the most visible attractions within the Barranco suburbs is its numerous and large murals. Among all the things to do in Barranco, taking a walk through its streets and enjoying the notorious art is completely free. Within the surroundings of Lima, the Barranco suburb is the most focused on street art, even numerous murals have been

sponsored by the municipality to give the neighborhood a personal touch.

ADMIRE THE ARCHITECTURE One of the great things that Barranco offers is its large and majestic mansions

built along the coast. If you are an architect or simply appreciate the art behind the facades, Barranco is the right place to enjoy a particular architecture. Barranco used to be the summer resort for the elite and wealthy people of Lima. But as the city continued its expansion, they decided to move their houses, leaving to appreciate a large number of mansions and “Casonas”.

EXPLORE THE CULTURE A great start to the Barranco neighborhood is making your way across the Puente de Los Suspiros, or Bridge of Sighs. One of the most famous landmarks of the neighborhood, this wooden bridge comes with a legend that states that if you make a wish and hold your breath for the entire time you walk across the 100-foot bridge, then your wish will come true. One of the coolest museums in the city is

in Barranco. The MATE, founded in 2012 by famed photographer Mario Testino, is a museum full of stunning images from Testino himself. A native of Lima, Testino is one of the most influential fashion and portrait photographers of our time. The museum is housed in a gorgeously restored 19th-century mansion filled with wall to floor portraits in an impressive bidisplay.
