The Beginning The Hill family started Aritzia inside their 70-year-old department store in Vancouver. When Brian Hill opened the first standalone boutique in 1984, the idea was simple: offer beautiful clothes in aspirational spaces with exceptional service. Women seemed to like what we were doing, so we grew. And we’ve kept on growing ever since.
Where They Are Now Aritzia opened its first U.S. store in Seattle and Santa Clara, California in November 2007, with their Manhattan flagship is 13,000 square feet. In November 2012, Aritzia launched the aritzia.com e-commerce site. As of January 2018, Aritzia operated 84 stores in North America; 63 boutiques are located in Canada and 21 stores in the US. Aritzia’s filing says it aims to grow annual revenue to between $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion by the end of its 2021 financial year more than double the $542.4 million in its 2016 financial year.
Unique Characteristics Aritzia’s competitive advantage lies in its exclusive brand portfolio. Each brand has its own identity, vision, and targeted customer base. As the industry shifts from traditional fashion cycles to “see now, buy now” collections, Aritzia has the flexibility, agility, and diversification needed to adapt and compete. As customer preferences shift to “experience” oriented stores, attracting millennia’s to physical retail locations will be a key component to increasing brand awareness, establishing a brand identity, and converting in-store visitors to online retail customers. Given Aritzia’s unique understanding of millennial habits, it is well-positioned to exploit the growing purchasing power of female millennia’s in the near future. Additionally, Aritzia is afforded the flexibility to add additional exclusive brands in order to pursue the latest fads and trends without diluting or straying from the brand identities of its existing brands.

Capsule Collection: When researching brands we came across Aritzia, they seemed to carry practically everything from accessories to outerwear with numerous amounts of their own private labels. The one key category they do not carry exclusively is pajamas. For a brand that is so big on everyday items and considers themselves master of all trades you would think they would have pajamas. We stepped in and created the Dream Sweet Pajama Collection. The collection is made up of 10 key items: a pj set, silk slip, oversized tee, both a long and short robe, a jumpsuit and romper. Focusing on quality and design, these pj’s are a dream. Staying in the house all day never looked so good.
