UNIT 1 Fantastic. Meet my expectation. ——My experience of Unit 1 so far. The reason i came to MAID CSM is to make up the weakness of my research method and broaden my scope of design. In hindsight, i contacted with critical thinking through Visions and CIP series. My cognition has been enhanced by fresh method like Agile ID process and prototyping, ELITO, dreamscaping and double diamond design process model. The biggest chanllenge for me is adaption to the manner of MAID, after that, i can receive what it want to deliver. During several projects, it is reasonable that we can choose to design in a critical or commercial way. Although I have mastered some related skills about designing commercial product, the next step for me is trying to break through my comfort zone and discover splendid creation.

REFLECTION
It’ s the first time that we train our craft skills in workshop after the induction. Above this, it’ s a chance for us to communicate, cooperate and ‘connect’ in a brand new learning and working environment. After intense and innumerable trials, we applauded, cheered and even hugged. At that time, we truly realized the meaning of this project: connections for better relationship, better multidisplinary practice, better design.
10
What i learned in this project are communication and multidispline. It’’ the first time for me to study in an english-speaking school, communication between the input and output classmates is a big challenge. Moreover, doing such an interesting project with classmates from different backgrounds and culture is really cool! Coming from an engineering school, i have learned both engineering and design knowledge. So the biggest chanllenge for me is i tried to find more cultural and artistic behind mechanical work. But in some way, i ignored the exquisite structure of my work. If i could do it again, i would put more mechanical knowledge i learned into underlying implication. Also, one of my strength is doing mortise and tennon work during undergraduate course, i should apply it and find more opportunities.
HYPERSELF
In the video, I narrate how my design story begins and show the ideal and aspiration in my heart which consist of my Hyperself.
A good designer will never lose craft ability A good idea is just an idea, go ahead and craft it

It's best to be scolded when you're young -- preferably before you're 20, if you can.
Before entering the workshop, you must be the person who will not make the people around you anxious.
Before entering the workshop, you must be able to understand what others are saying.
Before entering the workshop, you must be the person who can respond well.

REFLECTION
This flowerpot represents CSM’ s renovation on old-fashioned building. Look into the cement appearance, the shining blue light and textured wood can light up your eyes. Analogously, after walking into CSM and feel the unique design atmosphere, you will be shocked. What made me benefit from this project is procedure than outcome. Anthropology is an area I never mentioned and the branding method which Nick taught us is also very impressive. One of the flowerpot’ s design flaw is I didn’ t consider the container which is used for storing extra water. Although the research began with interviews, it still lacked persuasiveness in some way. That is also the thing i felt the most chanllenging, to make a balance between every parts of research. If I could do it again, i would lay more emphasis on persona research and users’ experience feedback which I didn ‘t do well. That’ s more necessary than the function and appearance of gift.

REFLECTION
Visions is a course which combines critical with surreal thinking, theory with interaction. I was overwhelmed at first while watching films with diverse mannerism. Gradually, I consider that this course, from a higher vision, really gives me a parallel source of path. After theoretical or abstract film, we finally interact with surroundings near CSM in groups. Some games require collaboration work; some games response to question of reality in critical way; some games are easy to follow. This reminded me of the experimental films we watched, I finally realize the meaning of it. We always chasing knowledge by profound theory but there is also underlying signifcance under simplest behaviors.

REFLECTION
While the first-time cooperation, the strengths of each team member became apparent. Whether those skills were digital, conceptual or communicative in nature, we have a good sense of how best to utilize each other's talents and synthesize those efforts into a coherent, successful project.
62
In hindsight, it seems that a physical, as opposed to virtual, “interruption would have been more successful. Visiting the site as a group as well as considering a more performative and interactive approach on a person-to-person level may have created a stronger group dynamic thus yielding a more cohesive project. We can successfully improve our presentation by ensuring that each member of the group takes ownership of the project by presenting a discreet section. In gaining a better understanding of each person's strengths, our research can become more productive, in-depth and ,consequently, more effective. Overall, however, this was a positive learning experience for Group K team as each of us clearly has unique skills and ideas which, when synthesized in the right way, can yield in-depth critical inquiry and discourse.

REFLECTION
We propose a device that enables a more sophisticated form of communication with the animals we have grown to rely on. To a large degree, our success as a species is intimately intertwined with that of the animals we domesticate. They have become such an integral part of our lives in society. Maybe our relationship can evolve to a less barbaric one.

Consumer Survival Kit
Consumer manipulation is all around us. Everywhere we go, we see signs reading 2 for ÂŁ4.50
These goggles are made of smartglass which blurs out those obnoxious adverts, sale signs and promotions so that you can zero in on what you need to buy and ignore all the other not-so-subtle forms of visual scheming.
Of course, we all know that advertising can be beneficial. It introduces us to new products and educates us about existing ones. But it can also bring about huge anxiety.
The odor blocking mask helps you prevent from salesman’ s recommend like perfume or food
Here at ad-busters, we’ re hoping to reframe these moments of manipulation, to give control back to the consumer and to create more opportunities for choice.
The kits also include some specifically designed painkillers to target any symptoms of post-shopping trauma.

REFLECTION
The underlying theme of this project discusses the ease with which corporations manipulate consumers to overspend through advertising and incentivise purchasing through fabricating value. The idea arose from an initial discussion regarding our experiences with and exposure to over-consumption during the Christmas break. The result was a ‘Consumer Survival Kit’ that had all the tools necessary to prepare consumers for various forms of manipulation, often resulting in anxiety and excessive spending.

‘ define an area of focus,
an explanation for the value of this focus, a perspective or attitude, a timeframe, research identifying evidence to interrogate the area defined and support a designed intervention, which could be a product, service or experience. ‘
Continue with CIP 3
In this final section, we chose to develop CIP3, whose underlying theme discusses the ease with which corporations manipulate consumers to overspend through advertising and incentivise purchasing through fabricating value. The idea arose from an initial discussion regarding our experiences with and exposure to over-consumption during the Christmas break. We attempt to sell the consumer a product they don’ t need under the auspices of giving them choice, receiving input from friends and investing in their future through responsible decision making.
82
Design application interface
The initial stages of CIP4 challenged our original idea of the Consumer Survival Kit in its relevance within the digital age. We strategized on specific ways to present the idea in an appropriate way. After considering a physical device, we chose to develop an app, which would seamlessly integrate with the user’ s lifestyle. Additionally, the idea of an application yielded a more relatable product.

REFLECTION
Our final video was informed by a look at some successful marketing campaigns, including kickstarter videos. We embraced the tropes of an on-camera pitch person, animated user interface, and video re-enactments to demonstrate features relevant to our message. The synthesis of these led us to a product we are proud of. Working through the differences, which naturally arise within a large group, was often difficult, but our efforts helped yield incremental successes with each project we completed. We hope that our CIP4 video is the culmination of those successes.
In CIP 1-4 projects, We learned that good communication is the key to success in design activities especially when time and resources are limited. Group projects can be difficult as each member approaches the problem from a different point of view. They are also, however, great opportunities to find common ground, to learn alternative perspectives and to bolster each other by contributing one's expertise in pursuit of reaching a common goal. Of the projects presented, the most successful displayed the same characteristics - adherence to an idea, equal participation by each member and personal interaction with the end user. Perhaps the biggest lesson learned form this process is that surface inquiry will not suffice. We struggled to define the problem, therefore we could not sufficiently analyse it. That deficiency in critical inquiry became apparent in our presentation, after which the tutors focused on the lack of clarity in our project, suggested that we did not fully understand the target market, what we aimed to get out of the installation, and what our installation was portraying.

REFLECTION
To be honest, when i was in undergraduate course, I got touch with C++ language and Arduino design applied into interactive device, but it was really a brand new experience to design, edit code, test on our own because I always worked with multidisplinary team. What we found the most inspiring thing is the broad design space Arduino gives us which is a developed platform. These amazing sensors help us think widely without any limit. We went down to the interactive robot at home. It seems like a common idea in intelligent area, but we strived to poisition it as a more interesting toy in our way. It really bothered us when there is some original flaws of two motors, fortunately, with Jeremy’ s help, we made up this part at last.

Let us just focus on the communication service and essential funtions.
Communication is an essential demand of human's lives. Mobile and headsets as communication service based products, has became one of the few technology products to make people rely on every day. With developing technology, the products can more interactive with surroundings and even be intangible.
Female interviewees tend to rely on outside help like friends and internet when they are in exceptional case. In this way, mobile or headset can act more smart and humanizated to provide information and protection.

REFLECTION
As far as i think, this project is the most integrated one I made. Inspired from the brand new way of research, I felt dynamic to begin this practice. Not only Dreamscaping we was bold in outside campus, but also ELITO in which way we learned to collect our resource and analyze. The most challenging part is making a choice. After papaer prototyping, I generated 3 concepts--AR glasses, headset folded into phone and dismountable jewellery headset. Among these, Jewellry should be the most difficult one and i retreated after tiny trials. As I talked at the begining, I will learn to break through my comfort zone and apply my skills for more splendid and patulous outcomes. One design flaw of my headset is the microphones are designed on rear frame, the sound cannot be captured under AR glasses mode. If I could do it again, I would pay more attention to users’ insights besides other ones. And of course, jump out of comfort area of designing similar practices.
