51 year old man from Winterveldt who is accused of raping a 77-yearold woman made his second appearance in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Monday. Mongameli Mdinga was refused bail and the matter was postponed to 22 March. Mdinga (51) was arrested for allegedly raping the old woman in her Winterveldt home on 15 February. Apparently he entered her house while she was asleep around 05:00 am on the day of the crime. Police said he allegedly threatened her before forcing himself on her. Locals alerted the police, who were swiftly on the scene to arrest the man.

male aged 37 years old was arrested for murdering her girlfriend aged 25 years old On 10 February around 1am. He stabbed the deceased with a knife several times all over her body at Winterveld area, the deceased passed away on her way to Hospital. It is alleged that the suspect accused the deceased of having an affair with another man. Police were informed by the mother of the suspect, as she heard a woman screaming for help and when she woke up and asked her son what was happening, the suspect threatened her with a knife. The suspect's mother screamed for help and community members responded quickly and gathered around the house. The suspect was arrested two days later at his friend's.
The Gauteng Department of Economic Development will for the first time celebrate township entrepreneurs at an awards ceremony which will be held next month. The Township Entrepreneur Awards (TEA) will recognise and celebrate inspirational businesses from the province's disadvantaged areas. The Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile, said the youth of Gauteng were the most affected by unemployment. “It is against this backdrop that the Gauteng Department of Economic Development recognises entrepreneurship as one of the enablers for the Gauteng City Region to make considerable inroads tackling unemployment,� MEC Maile said on Tuesday in a statement. The provincial Department of Economic Development said it had received more than 250 entries and they were screened as well as adjudicated; resulting in mainly four finalists in each of the 11 categories. Selection criteria included innovation and creativity, financial management and performance, social and community impact, sustainability and economic opportunities, as well as management systems
