Lastminute.com and F.lli Branca Distillerie: for a truly cleaner world

Si è svolto nella mattinata di venerdì 28 giugno presso lo stabilimento di F.lli Branca Distillerie in via Resegone il primo Cleaning Aziendale Milanese. L’iniziativa, che fa parte del progetto “Milano Quartiere Pulito” e che ha visto la rimozione di 300 scritte vandaliche da parte di 25 volontari in diverse realtà territoriali e cittadine, ha impegnato due realtà aziendali, Lastminute.com e F.lli Branca Distillerie, che si sono unite per strappare al degrado causato dal writing vandalico i muri di una famosa e storica azienda milanese: F.lli Branca Distillerie.

Oltre 20 dipendenti di Lastminute.com, insieme ad una rappresentanza della F.lli Branca Distillerie, hanno riportato lo stabile alla suo stato originario. L’obiettivo di queste operazioni di clean-up è quello di creare un circolo virtuoso, attraverso un’azione dal basso che s’ispira ad una cultura del fare, della responsabilizzazione del cittadino.

Un ‘abitante della città’ che diventa in questo modo vero protagonista nella lotta contro il degrado. Una forma di ‘riappropriazione’ della Città per renderla davvero un ‘bel’ posto in cui vivere. L’iniziativa ha visto l’appoggio dell’Associazione Nazionale Antigraffiti - già operante su tutto il territorio milanese - che ha approvato il primo, fattivo esempio milanese di cleaning aziendale. Senza dimenticare, come ha sottolineato l’Associazione stessa, che il rispetto e la cura condivisa del proprio spazio lavorativo portano anche ad un forte valore aggregativo e di educazione civica. Con la speranza che tale modello di riconquista attiva della nostra Città possa essere emulato da altre aziende milanesi. E in tutto il territorio nazionale.

The morning of Friday 28 June saw F.lli Branca Distillerie in Via Resegone host the Milan Company Cleaning event. The initiative is part of Milan's "Clean Neighbourhood" project and saw the removal of 300 graffiti by 25 volunteers in various places in and around the city; it also involved two companies, lastminute.com and F.lli Branca Distillerie, who joined forces to halt the deterioration caused by graffiti vandalism on the walls of a famous and historic Milanese company: F.lli Branca Distillerie.

More than 20 employees of Lastminute.com, together with a team representing F.lli Branca Distillerie, helped restore the building to its original condition.

The objective of these clean-up operations is to create a virtuous circle through bottom-up action to inspire a culture of sharing and responsibility among local people. "Citizens" who in this way become the real protagonists in the fight against deterioration. It is a way of "reclaiming" the city to turn it once again into a 'pleasant' place to live. The initiative was supported by the National Anti-Graffiti Association - already active all over Milan - which approved the first effective example of company cleaning in Milan. Without forgetting, as pointed out by the Association itself, that respect and shared care for work areas encourage strong social and civic values. We sincerely hope that this active approach to making our city a better place to live will be emulated by other companies in Milan. And throughout the country as well!

Quindici tappe in tutta Italia per vivere l’incredibile mix di Fernandito

Un evento itinerante di 15 imperdibili nuove tappe - da Nord a Sud - ha portato Fernandito, il cocktail a base di Fernet-Branca e Cola, in giro per tutta l’Italia.

Chiunque ha potuto vivere una vera Fernandito Experience, bevendo Fernandito e “vestendo” un Fernandito-style, con i coloratissimi occhiali da sole ‘fashion’.

All’interno dei locali meta del Tour era allestito un corner Fernandito con un set fotografico, dove i consumatori hanno potuto mixare a piacimento accessori e capi d’abbigliamento di diversi stili e farsi immortalare con il loro Fernandito; tutte le immagini e i video della serata sono stati poi caricati sulla pagina Facebook (https:// www.facebook.com/FernanditoMezcla).

Il tour è partito da Jesolo il 26 luglio ed ha ‘animato’ l’Italia per tutta l’estate: dalla riviera veneta a quella romagnola, dal Salento ai lidi romani di Ostia e Fregene per arrivare - a settembre - nelle principali città italiane: Milano, Bologna, Torino e Roma.

Quindici eventi imperdibili per vivere la notte in controtendenza, per assaporare il gusto di un drink che sorprende per la sua duplice anima, per la sua originalità e stravaganza: Fernandito, un dito di Fernet-Branca, due cubetti di ghiaccio e Cola a piacere.

Fernandito stop-offs Tour Fifteen all over Italy to experience the incredible Fernandito mix 15 new and not-to-be-missed stop-offs from North to South. A travelling event took Fernandito - the cocktail made with Fernet-Branca and Cola - all over Italy.

Everyone was able live a real Fernandito Experience, sipping Fernandito and "dressing" in the Fernanditostyle with amazingly colourful 'fashion' sunglasses.

The premises hosting the Tour welcomed a Fernandito corner with a photo set, where consumers were able to mix garments and accessories in all kinds of style exactly as they pleased while being immortalised with their Fernandito; all images and video of the evening were then uploaded to the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FernanditoMezcla).

The tour started off in Jesolo on 26 July and 'animated' Italy all through the summer: from the Venetian to the Romagnola Riviera, from Salento to Rome's seaside resorts of Ostia and Fregene before moving in September to Italy's main cities: Milan, Bologna, Turin and Rome.

Fifteen must-see events for nightlife with a difference, savouring the taste of a drink with a surprising twin soul combining originality and extravagance: Fernandito - a finger of Fernet-Branca, two ice cubes and Cola as preferred.

E le stelle non sono state solo quelle che hanno punteggiato il cielo del capoluogo toscano durante una delle più incantevoli serate estive, ma anche i numerosi artisti che si sono susseguiti sul palco degli MTV Awards in piazzale Michelangelo. Da Max Pezzali a Gianna Nannini, da Marco Mengoni a Emma, da Chiara Galiazzo a Fedez, Firenze si è trasformata per qualche ora nella città della musica.

Protagonista di questo grande evento è stato Brancamenta: alle 23.30 in punto, infatti, il palco e la piazza degli MTV Awards, come per magia, si sono vestiti di verde Brancamenta, grazie a un lighting ad hoc ed alla dominazione di tutti gli schermi sul palco.

I VJ hanno mixato immagini, video e testi legati al mondo di Brancamenta non solo per gli schermi, ma anche per una consolle led appositamente allestita.

Tre artisti di fama internazionale hanno ‘affiancato’ Brancamenta nell’intrattenimento targato MTV: il duo tutto al femminile formato da Ema Stockholma & Andrea Delogu - rispettivamente dj e vocalist - hanno dato il via alla serata musicale.

A seguire, il dj set di Boosta, co-fondatore dei Subsonica, affiancato da hostess che hanno regalato al pubblico in

piazza moltissimi gadget estivi firmati Brancamenta, ha continuato ad animare la serata.

Ma la festa non si è fermata qui: in contemporanea con l’Aftershow MTV Awards, Brancamenta è stato protagonista anche nell’Area Vip riservata ad ospiti e partner degli MTV Awards.

Un angolo bar - brandizzato Brancamenta - ha offerto agli ospiti la possibilità di degustare Brancamenta liscio, con ghiaccio e Mintonic, il drink a base di Brancamenta, tonica, foglie di menta e lime.

La serata, davvero indimenticabile, ha dato ‘ufficialmente’ il via all’estate 2013 con un pizzico di brivido in più: quello inimitabile di Brancamenta.

‘star’ at the MTV Awards aftershow An authentic 'night of the stars' enchanted the city of Florence on Saturday 15 June. And the stars were not only those dotting the sky of Florence during one of the finest evenings of summer but also the many artists on stage for the MTV Awards in Piazzale Michelangelo.

Max Pezzali, Gianna Nannini, Marco Mengoni, Emma, Chiara Galiazzo and Fedez turned Florence for a few hours into the city of music.

Brancamenta was also a protagonist of this truly major event: at precisely 23.30, the stage and the square of the MTV Awards - as if by magic - took on a Brancamenta green livery thanks to hoc lighting and display on all the screens on stage. VJs mixed images, videos and texts linked with the world of Brancamenta not only for screens but also for a specially set-up LED console. Three internationally renowned artists 'flanked' Brancamenta in the MTV entertainment schedule: the female duo of Ema Stockholma & Andrea Delogu - respectively dj and vocalist - kicked off the musical evening.

The lively evening went on with the dj set by Boosta, the co-founder of Subsonica, assisted by hostesses giving away Brancamenta summer gadgets to everyone in the square.

Yet the party didn't stop here: at the same time as the MTV Awards Aftershow, Brancamenta was also in the forefront of the VIP Area for guests and partners of the MTV Awards.

A Brancamenta branded bar corner offered guests the chance to taste Brancamenta smooth with ice and Mintonic, the drink made with Brancamenta, tonic, mint leaves and lime.

The truly memorable evening 'officially' launched summer 2013 with an added dash of thrills: the inimitable thrill of Brancamenta.

Fernet-Branca è stato ancora una volta protagonista di Tales of The Cocktail, l’evento che si svolge ogni anno a New Orleans affollando strade, bar e ristoranti, sempre più apprezzato dai suoi estimatori. Primo di una serie di incontri è stato il pranzo alla LUPEC (acronimo per Ladies United for the Preservation of the Endangered Cocktail) in cui Edoardo Branca ha fatto gli onori di casa. Gli ospiti sono stati invitati ad assaggiare tutti i brand del portafoglio Branca e a gustare cocktail quali il Fernet Buca Shake, il Candolini Citrus e l’Italian Mistress. Durante il pranzo poi, Mintonic, a base di Tonica e Brancamenta si è rivelato essere il cocktail perfetto da assaporare nella calda New Orleans. In linea col tema ‘Scopri il mondo delle Distillerie Branca’, gli ospiti, all’ingresso della zona degustazione, sono stati omaggiati di un passaporto su cui hanno potuto apporre la propria foto fatta al momento.

Nei vari tavoli, gli ospiti potevano degustare i diversi prodotti, apprendere le loro caratteristiche mentre, di volta in volta, i passaporti venivano contrassegnati con un timbro, permettendo così ai loro proprietari di passare alla ‘stazione’ successiva. Al completamento del passaporto, gli ospiti sono stati omaggiati con una “moneta Fernet-Branca” da collezione.

Tra i cocktail offerti: Fernet Cooler, a base di Fernet-Branca, The Money Maker, a base di Brancamenta, House of Savoy a base di Grappa Candolini e Punt e Mes, La tela di Carlotta con Brancamenta e Sambuca Borghetti e il Borghetti Spriz a base di Caffè Borghetti. New Orleans, capitale della ‘mixability’ ha decretato pertanto ancora una volta l’eccellenza dei prodotti Branca, confermandone la qualità proprio all’interno di quella che può essere considerata una delle manifestazioni internazionali di riferimento più importanti nel settore del beverage.

The ‘star’ at Tales of the Cocktail Fernet-Branca was once again in the limelight at "Tales of The Cocktail", the increasingly popular event held every year in New Orleans crowding the city's streets, bars and restaurants. The series of meetings got going with the lunch at LUPEC (acronym for Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails), where Edoardo Branca did the honours as host. Guests were invited to taste all the brands in the Branca portfolio and enjoy cocktails such as Fernet Buca Shake, Candolini Citrus and Italian Mistress. Later on during lunch, Mintonic - based on Brancamenta and Tonic - proved to be the perfect cocktail for sipping in the warmth of New Orleans.

In keeping with the 'Discover the world of Distillerie Branca' theme, on entering the tasting area guests received a gift passport where they could affix their photos taken at the same time. The various tables allowed guests to taste all the different products, learn about their characteristics and, each time, the passports were stamped, thereby allowing their holders to move to the next location. On completing the passport with all stamps, guests were given a collectable “Fernet-Branca coin” as a keepsake.

The cocktails served included: Fernet Cooler (based on Fernet-Branca), The Money Maker (Brancamenta), House of Savoy (Grappa Candolini and Punt e Mes), Charlotte's Web (Brancamenta and Sambuca Borghetti) and Borghetti Spriz (Caffé Borghetti).

New Orleans - the capital of 'mixability' once again confirmed the excellence of Branca products, highlighting their quality within the scope of what may be well considered one of the most important international beverage industry events.

Torreglia, il piccolo comune in provincia di Padova ai piedi dei Colli Euganei, è stata la cornice della partita di calcio svoltasi lo scorso 22 giugno tra Branca e Luxardo, azienda del settore liquori che nella regione veneta ha la sua sede.

Malgrado ‘giocasse in casa’, la Luxardo ha dovuto ‘cedere il passo’ alla squadra Branca che ha battuto gli avversari per tre reti a due. Presente la famiglia Luxardo al completo e, per la Branca, il Conte Giuseppe Branca e Maria Teresa Branca che, alla fine della partita, dopo una cena conviviale, ha premiato la squadra vincitrice e tutti i partecipanti alla partita.

the football match against Luxardo Torreglia, the small town in the province of Padua at the feet of the Euganean Hills, was the setting for the football match last 22 June between Branca and Luxardo, the company in the spirits sector with head offices in the Veneto Region.

Despite 'playing at home', the Luxardo team eventually lost to Branca 3 - 2.

The Luxardo family attended the match in force, while Branca was represented by Count Giuseppe Branca and Maria Teresa Branca who, at the end of the match and after a convivial dinner, awarded the winners and everyone taking part in the game.

Da luglio a ottobre, giovani artisti argentini potranno partecipare al Concorso di Manifesti “Arte Unica” che andrà a fare parte della collezione F.lli Branca. Con tema libero e utilizzando dipinti, fotografie, design o qualsiasi altra disciplina artistica, la F.lli Branca spera di ripetere l’importante adesione delle edizioni precedenti. Inoltre, grazie ai social networks, a Facebook e a un canale ufficiale su YouTube, la comunicazione e le informazioni relative al concorso avranno un flusso costante.

I vincitori otterranno borse di studio per corsi, workshop o formazioni nel campo dell’Arte.

Dal 1º al 4 Maggio a Villa Carlos Paz (provincia di Córdoba), Fernet-Branca è stato lo sponsor ufficiale della gara con punti per il WRC (Word Rally Championship). Fernet-Branca has doubled up its involvement in Argentine Rugby by launching a new campaign named "Branca - as Unique as the Heart of Rugby" to teach and promote the correct use of defibrillators and first aid in several clubs belonging to the "Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires”.

From May to December, F.lli Branca will organise educational conferences conducted by cardiologists and medical staff of the Argentine Society of Pathology and Emergency First Aid in the 84 clubs owning defibrillators.

Nella Estancia La Alameda si è svolto l’evento inaugurale “Grigliata & Spirits”, in cui FernetBranca ha dato il Benvenuto ed ha offerto il classico drink “Branca & Cola”, scambiando esperienze e commenti con i presenti.

Si è svolta dal 16 al 23 giugno scorso a Marina di Ascea (Salerno) la seconda convention S&C. Nella cornice dell'Olimpia Village Hotel, i soci della nuova realtà hanno potuto gustare un aperitivo Fernandito e partecipare ai lavori della loro assemblea in un'atmosfera di grande fascino. S.&C. - Consorzio Distribuzione Italia è stato costituito nel dicembre 2011, dalla unione di CO.DIST.Consorzio Distributori e SAI Supermercati Associati, partner in GR.I.DO. La nuova struttura, che ha come obiettivo quello di favorire l'aggregazione dei soci e di razionalizzare la presenza sul mercato degli stessi, oltre a voler creare nuove sinergie con l'industria, ha anche come scopo il rendere più efficace l'attività di ogni singolo associato nella sua realtà locale.

The Olympia Village Hotel welcomed the members of the new reality - who enjoyed a Fernandito aperitif and enjoyed the work of their AGM in a truly charming atmosphere.

S.&C. - Consorzio Distribuzione Italia was founded in December 2011 through the merger of CO.DIST.Consorzio Distributori and SAI Supermercati Associati, a partner of GR.I.DO. The new set-up, which aims to encourage its members to join forces and rationalise their market coverage, in addition to creating new synergies within the industry, also seeks to help members achieve even better efficiency in their local contexts.

The agenda culminated on Thursday 20 and Friday 21, dedicated to the CO.DIST. AGM, the S&C Business Meeting and reports by corporate sponsors.

The meeting was also a marvellous social occasion for the group and embraced many areas of culture and recreation, including - on Thursday 20 - aperitifs based on Fernandito which were greatly enjoyed by participants, won over by its unique taste and colourful gadgets.

Com’è composto il vostro Gruppo, quali i vostri valori e la presenza sul territorio regionale?

Il gruppo Multicedi, azienda campana multicanale, annovera nella sua rete 5 cash&carry a insegna AdHoc, 253 pv Decò (di cui 11 mini, 220 super e 22maxi), 3 pet shop Ayoka, 5 freezer center Superfreddo Decò. Il tutto per un fatturato imponibile acquisto al 2012 di 515.000 milioni di euro (più Iva), stimato alle casse 720 milioni. I valori di insegna del cash&carry risiedono nel payoff dell’insegna stessa: “il cash&carry su misura x te”. Quando nel 2004 rivisitammo il progetto del canale “ristrutturammo” i lay out e gli assortimenti per cominciare ad assolvere alle esigenze del mondo Ho.re.ca, implementando i reparti freschissimi oltre ad aumentare la profondità di reparti quali le enoteche.

Viceversa per il canale a insegna Decò i valori e il relativo posizionamento di insegna si concentrano principalmente nei legami con il territorio, dagli assortimenti ai co-packer dell'omonima private label.

How is your Group structured, what are your values and regional coverage?

The Multicedi Group is a multi-channel company based in Campania. It's network includes 5 Ad Hoc cash & carry centres, 253 Decò outlets (11 mini, 220 super and 22 maxi), 3 Ayoka pet shops, 5 Superfreddo Decò freezer centres. Overall taxable income in 2012 came to 515,000 million euros (plus VAT), estimated in 720 millions at the till.

The mission of the cash & carry centres is summed up in the sign itself: “the cash & carry customized for you”.

When we reviewed the channel in 2004, we "renovated" layouts and assortments to begin meeting the needs of the Ho.Re.Ca world, implementing fresh food departments in addition to expanding the depth of others, such as wine departments. It is the other way round for the Decò channel where values and positioning focus primarily on bonds with the local area, from assortments to co-packers of the Decò private label.

Come ha affrontato Multicedi la crisi in atto?

Le maggiori criticità le riscontriamo in particolar modo per le famiglie degli amari, dei whisky e dei brandy. Multicedi nella sua multicanalità differenzia azioni e politiche in virtù del canale di riferimento. Nel canale lungo, oltre alla leva prezzo, si differenzia per formati, profondità e ampiezze assortimentali; nel canale corto si sviluppano azioni di valore che suggeriscono modalità alternative di consumo.

How has Multicedi tackled the current crisis?

The most critical aspects especially included families of bitters, whisky and brandy. Given its multi-channel operations, Multicedi differentiates actions and policies in relation to the reference channel. The long channel, over and above the price lever, differs in terms of formats, depths and breadth of choice; the short channel involves high-end actions encouraging alternative approaches to consumption.

Branca e Sigma: un rapporto ormai consolidato.

Ci può raccontare come è nata la vostra collaborazione e come si è sviluppata negli anni?

Come sono vissuti i prodotti Branca all’interno degli scaffali? Come sono posizionati?

Precisiamo che ci limitiamo a descrivere il rapporto Multicedi-Branca. Nel canale lungo, dove le nostre strutture sono pressoché omogenee per metrature e layout, la categoria degli spirits ovviamente si trova a ridosso se non inclusa nelle aree enoteche.

Nei punti vendita al dettaglio, per metrature che spaziano dai 250 mq fino a 900 mq, dobbiamo immaginare forti compromessi espositivi, mentre dai 1000 mq ai 1650 mq stiamo sperimentando varie soluzioni.

Branca and Sigma: a fully consolidated relationship.

Can you tell us about how your collaboration came about and how it has developed over the years?

How are Branca products experienced on the shelves? How are they positioned?

We can only re ally describe the Multicedi- Branca relationship. In the long channel, where our facilities are generally similar in terms of dimensions and layouts, the spirits category obviously is close to if not actually included in the areas dedicated to wine.

Retail outlets, for outlets from 250 sq.m. to 900 sq.m., we have to take significant display compromises into account, while from 1000 sq.m. to 1650 sq.m. we are experimenting with a number of solutions.

Ci saranno promozioni particolari legate ai prodotti Branca?

Stiamo studiando formule differenti dal canonico taglio prezzo, cavalcando le tendenze del bere miscelato: abbiniamo gadget e tutti gli ingredienti per la realizzazione dei “cocktail” proposti. Per esempio stiamo studiando le modalità di proposta di Fernandito, per il quale stiamo cercando di proporre l’acquisto combinato di una cola più Fernet-Branca, per poter poi omaggiare il consumatore del bicchiere brandizzato.

Will there be special promotions associated with Branca products?

We are studying formulas other than classic price cuts to take advantage of drink mix trends: we add gadgets and all the ingredients to make the suggested "cocktail".

Ci racconta il suo rapporto con i prodotti Branca?

Fin da piccolo frequentavo il panificio - di un amico di famiglia - proprio di fronte allo stabilimento Branca; posso quindi dire di essere cresciuto con i loro aromi. Inoltre ricordo il bar dove le persone bevevano il caffè “corretto Fernet”. Mi sono poi trasferito in America, dove ho vissuto dieci anni, e ho viaggiato in tutti i continenti: così ho scoperto che i clienti avevano - e hanno - una grande considerazione dei prodotti Branca che, grazie all’aiuto dei bartender, negli ultimi tempi hanno avuto un intenso salto di qualità.

Quale prodotto Branca usa di più nel suo locale?

Sul banco è sempre presente il Fernet: è uno dei prodotti che uso di più. Lo utilizzo anche nell'Elisir d'amore, il cocktail che due anni fa mi ha fatto vincere con Alex Frezza la Below Cocktail World Cup, in Nuova Zelanda. Un’infusione di lavanda e ananas e pepe cui poi si aggiunge un goccio di limoncello, vodka, zenzero e il tocco speciale, tre gocce di Fernet-Branca, che bilancia al meglio i componenti. Va servito per due persone, da cui il nome, con ghiaccio secco in bicchieri d'acciaio ghiacciati. Due gocce di Fernet anche nella mia versione dell'Americano Bolognese: al posto del Rosso Antico uso il Punt e Mes, mantenendo il Selecta, l'angostura e la buccia d'arancia. Infine un cocktail che ho imparato negli anni americani, Fernet e Cola, conosciuto oggi in Italia anche come Fernandito.

Ci racconta qualcosa in più sul suo locale, il Nu Lounge Bar? É in una location straordinaria, in via dei Musei, in un palazzo del 1200. L'abbiamo aperto 11 anni fa con due vecchi amici di Milano, tuttora presenti nel vecchio magazzino di una libreria di cui abbiamo cercato di mantenere l'atmosfera: ci sono libri, le mie collezioni di oggetti raccolti in giro per il mondo, i menu incorniciati. L'idea base è stata di farne un locale elegante e intrigante, con grande attenzione ai particolari. Inoltre ha anche un ristorante annesso. Gestiamo anche un club a Milano e una società di cocktail catering.

Lo stile Tiki è nato negli anni Trenta negli Usa ispirandosi alla cultura polinesiana. Punta su cocktail elaborati, soprattutto drink mixati a base di rum. Come riesce a coniugarlo con i prodotti italiani, uno su tutti Fernet-Branca?

Proprio pensando a quest’intervista ho portato a termine la mia rielaborazione di un classico Tiki: lo Zombie, creato nel 1934 da Don The Beachcomber che lo chiamò così perché dopo due bicchieri … sei a terra. Ho chiamato il mio Zombie 2.0 ed ecco la ricetta: 1,5 cl Don’s mix (50% succo di pompelmo; 50% sciroppo di cannella); 1,5 cl Falernum (sciroppo homemade fatto con mandorle, zenzero, spezie, rum ); 2 cl succo di lime fresco; 4,5 cl Rum Giamaicano Scuro; 4,5 cl Rum Portoricano Oro; 3 cl Rum ad alta gradazione (Lemon Hart); 3 dashes Fernet-Branca; 2 bar spoons di Amarena Fabbri. Frullare per pochi secondi con del ghiaccio tritato, servire in un bicchiere tipo pilsner, decorare con 3 ramoscelli di menta.

Can you tell us about your relationship with Branca products?

When I was a boy, I went to a bakery - owned by a family friend - right opposite the Branca distillery; so I can say I grew up with Branca's aromas. I also remember the bar where people drank coffee with a "dash of Fernet". I then moved to America, where I lived for ten years, and have travelled across all continents: this was how I found out that customers had - and still have - a very high regard for Branca products that, thanks to the help of bartenders, have achieved a great leap forwards in recent times.

Which Branca product do you use most in your bar?

Fernet is always present on the counter: it is one of the products I use the most. I even use it in Elisir d'Amore, the cocktail that two years ago helped me win the Below Cocktail World Cup in New Zealand with Alex Frezza. An infusion of lavender, pineapple and pepper plus a drop of limoncello, vodka, ginger and the special touch: three drops of FernetBranca, which perfectly balances the other ingredients. It is served for two people (hence the name) with dry ice chilled steel glasses. I also add two drops of Fernet to my version of Americano Bolognese: instead of the Rosso Antico, I use Punt e Mes, but still keep Selecta, angostura and orange peel. Finally, a cocktail that I learned about during my years in America: Fernet and Cola, also known today in Italy as Fernandito.

Tells us something more about your Nu Lounge Bar? It is in a stunning location in Via dei Musei, in a XIII century building. I opened it 11 years ago with two old friends from Milan and it is still in the old warehouse of a bookshop where we have tried to retain the atmosphere: there are books, my collections of objects from trips all around the world, framed menus. The basic idea was to create a stylish and intriguing bar through great attention to detail. There is also a restaurant annex. We even manage a club in Milan and a cocktail catering company.

Tiki style emerged in the 1930s in the USA, inspired by Polynesian culture. It focuses on elaborate cocktails, especially mixed drinks based on rum. How do you combine this with Italian products, especially Fernet-Branca?

While I was thinking about this interview, I finished my review of a classic Tiki: the Zombie, created in 1934 by Don The Beachcomber - who chose this name because after two glasses ... you're flat on the ground. I called my version Zombie 2.0 and here is the recipe: 1.5 cl Don's mix (50% grapefruit juice; 50% cinnamon syrup); 1.5 cl Falernum (homemade syrup with almonds, ginger, spices, rum); 2 cl fresh lime juice; 4.5 cl Dark Jamaican Rum; 4.5 cl Puerto Rican Gold Rum; 3 cl High-proof Rum (Lemon Hart); 3 dashes of Fernet-Branca; 2 bar spoons of Amarene (Sour Cherries) Fabbri. Blend for a few seconds with crushed ice, serve in a Pilsner type glass garnished with 3 mint sprigs.
