Restoration of the

Capuchin Order In order to expand the community all throughout Spain, the Capuchin Fathers made efforts to enter Navarra but given the difficulty of getting there obtained permission to do so in Andalucia. Finally Father Bernabé de Astorga and cappuccins of Bayona received order from the King to found in Antequera. The decision caused controversy among ministers of the Royal Order who had to accept and attend to the provisions of the King.

The return of the restorers to Spain After the royal instruction, responsibilities were distributed to send religious to the founding of the new Capuchin work in Andalucia.

The community organized three expeditions to reach the convent and inaugurated it in the feast of San Jose, 1877. During the long journey religious passed throughout Spain unnoticed arriving safely to their destination. Difficulties in the foundation While in Spain, the religious community had encountered difficulties provoked by the hostile environment that existed at the time of wars but with kindness and gentleness managed to win the hearts of the inhabitants of Antequera.

The Capuchin community was making itself known throughout Spain to the point of reaching popularized by other regions of the country through the preaching of its members. Finally the Capuchin Order received the petition to found a new work in Sanlúcar where they would arrive in late 1877.

The inscription on the tomb of Father Luis Amigó ¨HOMO HUMUS, FAMA FAMUS, FINIS CINIS. In Spanish means, “Man is earth, the glory smokes, ash is his end” On November 18, 1857 Father Luis Amigó, at his 13 years, was confirmed in the church of S. Lorenzo. In the square dedicated in 1954 the city of Valencia to Bishop Amigo, the current monument was opened on March 8, 1986, in it is presented Fr. Luis on the act of extending his hand to help a young exhausted man. Father Luis Amigó, along with his brother Julio, received First Communion on May 13, 1866.
