Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson) This is an amazing series that will have you glued to your seat and waiting for more. If you love paranormal romance paired a long with a great story line, then this is the series for you.
Gun Church Kip also begins writing again, a book based on his experiences with the church and drawing from a handwritten diary of an Irish hit man, passed to Kip while on assignment for a magazine in London. McGuinn, as Kip dubs him, is an IRA assassin who, with The Troubles waning in the 1980s, realizes that his usefulness and life are quickly drawing to a close. New book contract in hand, reprint rights sold, things are looking up for the "Kipster". The title of this book written inside the book, GUN CHURCH. And then the world changes. Ultimately the book is about narcissism, the overarching theme of the ocean of books penned by the 1980s wunderkinds of literature. Coleman does a great job of putting these books and the times in perspective. Every character in GUN CHURCH is flawed to the point where the reader can root for no one. Jim's obsession turns violent, Renee deceives, ex-wife Amy loves the memory of bad-boy Kip rather than the more mature modern day version, and Kip...well, it's all about me all the time. Coleman, the author of the fine Max Prager series, has written a real page-turner. He keeps the tension at a fever pitch nearly through out the entire book, no mean feat at nearly 400 pages. He stretches credulity in a couple of spots, and the serendipity that launches and then ends the book might raise an eyebrow, but all in all, a fun and entertaining read.
Iced: A Dani O'Malley Novel (Fever Series) A lot of what made Fever a really interesting series was not knowing anything about a single thing that was going on, and then learning more and knowing even less. Iced tries to recapture some of that mystique with the question of who or what is causing these strange temperature fluctuations, but as the phrase "temperature fluctuations" suggests, it's not quite as captivating. And don't make the mistake of thinking that because Dani is fourteen, this is a YA book. There's waaaayyyy too much time spent on sex. Dani has not one, not two, but three men hovering, waiting for her to grow up a bit so their intentions become a little less creepy. I could definitely have skipped the sections from Christian's perspective, since they were overly angsty and I already knew he was seriously losing it. All he thinks about is getting Dani, along with a little bit of killing Ryodan, which got tiresome really quickly. The book also included a few peeks into the mind of Kat, now the de facto Grand Mistress of the sidhe-seers. These were more or less unrelated to the main plot and would have been a welcome relief from all the male posturing going on in Dublin, except that they were all about Cruce and how unbelievably hot he was. Basically, the sex was so
overdone it just sort of shriveled up into this grayish strip of burned meat. And the main character never even got any (fortunately).
Midnight City: A Conquered Earth Novel As he captures her something strange happens. Two Assembly ships, red, were attacking one of blue and white, the faction he was used to seeing. The blue and white ship is shot down, crashing near them, Holt finds a little girl, Zoey, all of eight, in the ship. She has no idea why she is in the Assembly ship, remembers nothing but her name. The four of them, along with Holt's dog, Max, begin to wander through alien held North America, trying to avoid the warring factions, a third, green and orange, joing the fight. What the in-fighting was about has to do with Zoey it soon becomes apparent. She has some sort of powers she doesn't even understand. Mind reading it seems is one.
Midnight Surrender: A Paranormal Romance Anthology Some of your favorite paranormal authors have put together their favorite outtakes and alternative point of views to bring you this collection of shorts stories from their best selling novels.

Midnight's Seduction Camdryn must learn to accept family and friends, to open up to what is offered to him. He must learn, before it's too late that just because you don't want to fall in love doesn't mean you won't. To learn that no matter how hard you protect yourself love always seems to wind it's way in. I think that was the true beauty of this book, the power of love. For love we slay dragons (or protect them) For love we offer ourselves, for love we find hidden strengths, for love we believe that sacrifice is worth everything and for love we endure. This theme slowly builds we see what love is and what love isn't. We see Safron face her inner demons and Camdryn let go of his inner god.
Mrs Queen Takes the Train Kuhn's story is told not only from the monarch's POV, but also from that of the staff pursuing her. These are likeable and only slightly damaged individuals. Their pursuit becomes a bonding experience, giving Kuhn a canvas on which to paint several different shades of relationship forming. He spends a fair amount of time at the top of the book introducing his cast, developing the characters, and establishing the workings of the palace.
Not Planning On You: A Danvers Novel Really enjoyed this book, I looking forward to the next one in the series. Could not put this book down.
Power Play Throughout the novel we learn that Great Britain is our best ally but cannot help us due to the cutbacks instilled by the Prime Minister. The United States needs to look outside of their comfort zone to find another country they can trust and rely on. Just which country has a naval station that can help pull this off and carry out the attack? So, how would the United States learn of the Russian's plan to attack them? Why were they targeting the NSA in Fort Meade? What part would the head of technical design and development of a Chinese company play in this? Just how would he create a satellite beam to take out our nuclear football> what role does the Solovestsky Monastery have to do with this and why does it house weapons?
Pride & Pyramids: Mr. Darcy in Egypt
I commend Grange for the seamless transition from Austen's beloved PRIDE AND PREJUDICE to their marital bliss with six children. Grange keeps true to Austen's spirit as Elizabeth and Darcy don't see eye to eye on every issue, but their love fifteen years later continues to buoy their family. But it is Webb's influence that wows the reader in seeing Egypt through the eyes of a Regency family.

Walking into the Ocean (A Peter Cammon Mystery) I have to admit, that at first, I did not think I would finish this book. I was wrong, the more I read the more I liked it. Peter Cammon is a 67 year old Chief Inspector with Scotland Yard, I think he is a very interesting man and I look forward to getting to know him better. I hope in the next book we get to know more about his wife, Joan, and of course Tommy Verden his friend and frequent partner. There is a mystery sas man,Mr.Smith, that we know very little about but I hope we find out more about him. I really enjoyed this book the only minor complaint is that it is a long book,463 pages, and to some people it might seem too long. Please give this book a chance I think you will be glad you did.

Weekends Required: A Danvers Novel Weekends Required is a splendid quintessential office romance novel. You have officially had a bad day when you jump out of a cake at your side job and find yourself face to face with your boss and his best friend. Claire's boss is shocked to discover that the demure assistant from the office is actually a hot, sultry... stripper? When he finds out she is working her side job because she needs the money for her mother's medication, Jason is determined to solve all the problems in her life. Suddenly her happiness is the most important thing in his life.
What Happened to My Sister What Happened to My Sister picks up where Me and Emma left off. Young Carrie living a transient with her mother, and is sadly neglected. The child does not even have food, scrounges where she can, and resorts to eating paper
when she can't find anything else. It's horrible. Then she meets and befriends a girl from a normal family, but the "normal" family has its own sad history. Carrie and the Chaplin family are good for each other.
Wilderness The writing is handsome, sharp, romantic... pure prose. Many paragraphs left me saying "Wow" out loud. Weller comes the closest to Cormac McCarthy than any other modern writer I've had the pleasure of reading, which is no small feat. Where McCarthy is unflinching with his nightmarish beauty, Weller softens the tone just enough. His craft renders scenery like a Hudson River-style masterpiece, which helps make the ever-present evil a bit less raw. Make no mistake, however, his evil men are every bit as horrifying as any McCarthy bad guy. There are equal doses of terror, heart-rending sadness, humor and pure good. Abel Truman is both raspy curmudgeon and saint and Weller does an excellent job of showing a tender heart through the ragged edges of his character's exterior. A somewhat bothersome device is the (lately) over-used treatment of time shifts and flashbacks. In my opinion, a chronological route might have helped this story, save the first character, Jane Dao-ming Poole's flashback - which was handled with excellence.
Winter White (Belles) I LOVED the first book so I could not wait until this second book came out and it definitely did not disappoint! Yet again, Calonita paints an amazing picture that makes you want to grab a sweet tea on the rocker on the front porch and read all day! I am planning on a road trip to the south this summer and this book will be by my side to reread along the way to get me in the zone. Thanks for another great read!
Zeuglodon Kathleen's mother disappeared in a submersible while trying to find the entrance to Pellucidar, so Kathleen now lives with her orphaned cousins Perry and Brendan at her eccentric uncle's house. Uncle Hedge, who runs a little seaside museum of strange objects, is a member of the Guild of St. George, a secret society of men and women who fight the plots of an evil genius named Dr. Hilario Frosticos. Kathleen and her cousins love Uncle Hedge but their neighbor Ms. Peckworthy, "a member of a very troublesome do-gooder society," is trying to get the kids reassigned to their Aunt Ricketts who would probably be a more suitable guardian.

11:59 Marc Niven is a radio host, working the switchboard at nights, providing clever banter and well-practiced camaraderie to the airways and his nightly callers, and flirting with the women who work the switchboards with him. One night, just before midnight on Valentine's Day, a strange caller rings in to wish happy Valentines to his beloved wife...soon to be his widow. A distracted and harried Marc fails to notice the dark implications of that call, and - much later in the evening - he witness what appears to be a kidnapping, but is too tired, and a bit too sloshed to do much more than watch and remember.
250 Things You Should Know About Writing This book was helpful in the most hilarious way. Written with a fabulous and zany sense of humor it still delivers the message it intends and made me, as a writer, feel more comfortable and well informed about my craft and the publishing trade. It is a great read and a fun tool for any writer!
Adrienne's Ghost Adrienne's Ghost truly has it all. Leah St. James is a phenomenal author and anything she writes is definitely worth checking out. The cover will grab your attention, the first few pages will pull you in, and every page after will keep you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see how it all turns out for these amazing, memorable characters.
All the Paths of Shadow Frank Tuttle, best known for his Markhat series, has created a wonderful new world populated with delightful characters, a unique slant on magick and a terrific plot. This story and its characters, including a sassy and intelligent houseplant, Mug, who will tickle your fancy, grabs the reader's attention on page one and holds on to the last page, leaving this reader craving more.
The Sins of the Mother As a way of making up to them for time lost, Olivia spends months each year planning a lavish holiday that everyone in her family will enjoy. This summer she has arranged a dream trip in the Mediterranean on a luxurious yacht, which she hopes will be the most memorable vacation of all. Her lavish gesture every year expresses her love for them, and regret at all the important times she missed during her children’s younger years. Her younger daughter, Cassie, a hip London music producer, refuses the invitation altogether, as she does every year. Her older daughter, Liz, lives in her mother’s shadow, with a terror of failure as she tries to recapture her dream of being a writer. And her sons, John and Phillip, work for Olivia, for better or worse, with wives who wish they didn’t. In the splendor of the Riviera, this should be a summer to remember, with Olivia’s children, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law on board. But as with any family gathering, there are always surprises, and no matter how glamorous the setting, things don’t always turn out as one hopes.

A Foreign Country His search for her takes him to a couple of different countries and I was surprised that he found Amelia relatively quickly I thought that might take up most of the book. However, it turns out that there was more to the story than about why Amelia went to France in the first place, more than even she knew. Kell, though he's technically finished his job since he located Amelia, feels there's more than meets the eye and uncovers something going on that no one could've suspected.
Ragnarok: A Jack Sigler Thriller Ever since I discovered the first Chess Team book I was hooked. This one is another great chapter in the series. After reading the Chess Team I went on to read everything else Jeremy has written and I have not been disappointed.
1225 Christmas Tree Lane This final novel has a slightly different feel since not only are we following Beth's story, Ms. Macomber is trying to bring many of the stories from many years to closure. There may be characters I missed, but it seems to me that every main character we have been introduced to over the past ten years is at least mentioned or has their storyline referenced. As a result, there is a lot of "stuff" going on and, at times, the narrative seems rushed but I still have to say she did a great job in writing this final book. I don't believe the intended audience is a new reader to the series, but rather a long-time fan who wants resolution. There are an even larger number of tidy endings this time out, but I think that is totally appropriate. Who wants to be left hanging after following the series for years? I think long-time fans will be pleased, but I would definitely not recommend this book as a stand-alone Christmas novel - the reader has to have the history of the characters to appreciate this final narrative.
Abarat: Absolute Midnight I was so ecstatic to have it after waiting for years! Anyway, finished it in about 6 hours and it was as good as I had hoped. The only problem I had was not remembering enough from the previous two books. I would suggest rereading Abarat and Days of Magic, Nights of War before reading Absolute Midnight to have full enjoyment of the book.
Abuse of Power I assume you realize this, but I'll mention it anyway, if you're expecting any kind of realism in the story you're going to be disappointed. Like most of the suspense novels you're going to have unrealistic last-second near misses, allies and enemies who behave just perfectly to allow the hero to succeed at a certain goal, "flesh wounds" from bullets that still allow the hit person full mobility, and people who believe or disbelieve a story in just the right way to add suspense. This can be said about just about any "thriller" book, but I felt some of the characters were a bit one dimensional compared to other books I've read and I would have liked to actually care about more of them. This isn't the greatest book you're ever going to read, but if you can get past the politics or if you just enjoy them then it's worth a look, though maybe after it drops in price a bit. If not, you're better off skipping it.

Abyss Another beautiful, passionate, highly imaginative book by Laura Kreitzer. If you haven't read this series you should start at the beginning. It's one of my favourite series and I highly recommend it, especially if you like different. There isn't anything else out there that is quite like this.
Always and Forever This is an interesting character driven contemporary fiction starring three women each suffering from a person crisis that requires change in their lives if they are to achieve any modicum of harmony. The R&R pampering at the spa enables them to unwind and obtain perspective so that their predicament no longer seems like climbing Mount Everest. Cathy Kelly's message is simple that everyone needs a little pampering magic.
Aphrodite's Passion
The Julie Kenner has an acute sense of humor and weaves a story full of fun, adventure and romance. The tongue in cheek writing is about a real superhero (actually a decendent of the Greek "gods" and protector of mortals) who's "cover" is to be a romance novel cover model, and who falls hard for a mortal. Tracy, the mortal he falls for just can't figure out why everything in the romance department was going horrendeously wrong and suddenly is now going in the exact opposite direction (and with more than just Hale, the superhero).
Arguably: Essays by Christopher Hitchen My one small disappointment is that the book focuses almost exclusively on essays written relatively recently. I'm guessing this has a lot to do with copyright entanglements, but I would like to have seen more of his older works. His recent essays are all easily available online, and I was hoping for a bit more from past archives. Having said that, I can also see the benefit of relying on the recent works, as they give a very fresh, updated look at the world. In fact, this book has instantly become my "go to" recommendation for people saying they want to be more involved in current events. It's long enough to be comprehensive, but the essay format allows it to be concise as well. And even though most of this material is available free online, it's definitely worth owning this archive of his most notable short works. I love the structure and layout of the essays, and the index is marvelous. It's a wonderful book for any fan of Christopher Hitchens, as well as anyone interested in politics, history, and culture
A Line in the Sand A LINE IN THE SAND is an exciting espionage tale because the prime players seem genuine in their multidimensional behavior. Frank is a bit crooked, making him a not so perfect hero. The Anvil has many redeeming qualities and is not just a religious killing machine. Even the M15 crowd seems less like super 007s and more like real people as they wonder if they should be proud of Franks' heroism or loathe him for placing them in danger. Even the townsfolk mob mentality of abject fear feels real. The charcaters destroy stereotypes that normally exist in this genre, which turns Gerald Seymour's novel into a triumph of the spirit.

A Plain Death: An Appleseed Creek Mystery What a great read. This story had plenty of action and suspense that kept me turning the pages. The tone was very comfortable and the author did a good job at diverting my attention that kept me guessing as the story moved along. Chloe is a great character, strong yet vulnerable as is Becky, one of the secondary cast in this charmingly appealing and wonderful series. This debut mystery is a great beginning to what I hope is a long-running series.
A Song in the Morning Perhaps the most interesting character is Jeez, a steadfast and long-suffering subject in Her Majesty's service, who's come to expect reciprocal loyalty from the London desk jocks who send men into harm's way. But this isn't the old days, and the remnant of Empire is the worse for it.
Bad Boys Do The middle book is sometimes tough to write, but Dahl crafts her overall story arc well. The issues between the siblings shift and build in this book, and some progress is made, but it's clear at the end that these Donovans have some work still to do in the area of family harmony. As with other Dahl books, this one had me laughing, crying, and well, I won't say "panting," but certainly reacting to pretty steamy writing in places
Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty I loved this book and I actually read it. I read it straight through. I had to go to the bathroom at work to finish it up. I enjoyed hearing about the off the field experiences of the team members. As reported, it was salacious. However, I enjoyed even more the making of the team. The trades and behind the scene conversations that made this team what it was. Pearlman dug up amazing details with extensive reporting. There may have been a few Cowboys who didn't speak with Pearlman, but most of them did and had plenty to say. To quote Bill Simmons
Brokenclaw Bond was feeling bored and resentful. Bored with sitting behind a desk, shuffling bits of paper around. Resentful that M seemed to have left him to rot. But with a threat of resignation, M send Bond away on holiday.

Cage of Bones Workers demolishing a building in Colchester make a horrifying discovery in the basement: a cage made of human bones ...with a feral child inside. As Phil Brennan and Marina Esposito investigate, they expose the trail of a serial killer who has been operating undetected for thirty years - a killer with a disturbing connection to Brennan's father.
Colonel Sun
Colonel Sun is a sadist. So was Kingsley Amis, as the miniscule details of pain and torture are given as much relish as Fleming did about the class trappings that we enjoy. It's also clear that the style was more "modern" than Fleming, but it still remains true to the character that he built, more so than what's been coming about lately.
Coup d'Etat Despite the potential danger to those associated with Dewey, I am all ready to volunteer to go out with him on his next mission. To those of you who enjoy heavily plot driven, plausible thrillers in the tradition of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor, I'd highly recommend Coup D'Etat to you. While Coup D'Etat can be fully enjoyed without having first read Power Down, it would probably be a good idea to read these two books in sequence.
Critical Space Every book featuring Atticus Kodiak gets better and better and it's hard to imagine Mr Rucka could write another book any better than this one. I couldn't put this book down but at the same time that I was staying up late into the night reading, didn't want the adventure to end. This installment puts the reader on a roller coaster of emotions . . . alternately cheering for Atticus and agonizing over some of the decisions he is making that appear to be turning him into the type of person he is usually hired to protect against! I strongly suggest that a person read the previous books in the Atticus Kodiak series to truly appreciate the characters that surround Atticus.
Dead End Gene Pool: A Memoir When you pass unseen through rooms, it's hard not to work at what Erik Erikson called "negative identity" - "the sum of all those identifications and identity fragments which the individual had to submerge in himself as undesirable or irreconcilable." Mooning boaters who have slowed their engines to gawk at the Burdens house in Maine, stealing every bit of food from the kitchen, stretching Saran Wrap under the toilet seat - the young Burdens did it all. Do I have to add that Wendy also got terrible grades in school? Even if you're not of her world, you'll guffaw at the descriptions of meals in Maine and vacations in Florida. Her mother's marital history is a kind of hoot. Wendy's first crush and her efforts to lose her virginity are damn funny. To say nothing of Jacques Cousteau putting the moves on teenage Wendy on the Concorde. And the descriptions of a great meal: "It was sublime, like eating orgasms."

Death Is Forever Beginning with the murder of two members of a VERY well-organized spy ring known as Cabal, Bond teams up with another MI6 agent to try and find out what happened to the remaining members of the organization and find out who was behind it.
Death, Taxes, and a Sequined Clutch: A Tara Holloway Novella Death and taxes wait for no woman. And if anything can take Tara’s mind off gorgeous temptation Nick Pratt, her new coworker, it’s a case at her old accounting firm involving none other than the arrogant womanizer who humiliated her years ago. Taking down brothers who’ve lied and cheated their way into millions is a professional satisfaction, but catching Nathan Jamison with his pants down is the most fun Tara can have without Nick. That is, until the bullets start flying…
Don't Look Now Attorney Clare Westbrook's boss is murdered. She's not exactly upset because in addition to his unethical business practices, he also had Clare working off a loan he made to her for law school by her working long hours for low pay. Enter former lover and still chemically combustible homicide detective, Tony Sonterra. In a parallel story, her brotherin-law is released from prison wanting his daughter, whom Clare is raising, back. Part of the plot has to do with finding her sister's murderer.
Doubleshot
As this is his fourth original novel, Benson has firmly set his own style. He is more comfortable with his story telling ability and his characterizations are more daring. This book contains very violent actions conducted by some of Benson's most ruthless creations. Domingo Espada and Margareta Piel are two of the most twisted and sadistic villains Bond has ever encountered. As with the Skin 17 plot element in High Time to Kill, the Bond doppleganger also works well in the story in spite of the fact that this plot device seems more like a Bond rip-off than genuine 007. I initially had my doubts about a double 007, however Benson makes it work and allows the reader to enjoy his story for the fantasy and escapism that Bond novels are.
Elvis and the Tropical Double Trouble The fourth Southern Cousins mystery (see Elvis and the Grateful Dead, and Elvis and the Memphis Mambo Murders) is a zany intelligent cozy starring the extended eccentric Valentine brood. Callie holds the story line focused as she reluctantly investigates her missing loved ones and by default the murder while she knows Jack will have her back. Though Elvis is less of a hound dog than usual, fans will enjoy his (and Callie) Mexican adventures...

Fateful Can Alec be freed from the curse of changing each and every night? Can he escape the Brotherhood a collection of werewolf thugs? Can the love that Alec and Tess have for each other overcome all the obstacles in their way and finally be together? You'll just have to read the book to get the answers. Fateful is a fantastically written historical romance with a unique and original twist on the paranormal side. I just loved this book, and I hope that there is a second, third, maybe more. I see a great series potential here.
Fire Bound A dangerous creature is on the loose. Evalle, Tzader and Quinn take a VIPER team just outside of Atlanta for a sting operation that takes a deadly turn. Killing the half-human creature would be easy, but national security is on the line until the team can discover who created the monster, and whether more like it are waiting in the wings to be unleashed on the human world. The op goes bad with Beladors in the middle of it, and nothing turns out as expected, least of all for Evalle.
For Special Services In For Special Services, Bond is on loan to the United States government, his partner none other than the tough and beautiful Cedar, daughter of 007’s old friend Felix Leiter. Their enemy? An old adversary, the legendary SPECTRE has reappeared. Bond and Cedar find themselves in some deadly and terrifying situations from skyjack to plunging elevator, from armies of killer ants in the Midwest to horror on a private monorail before they come face to face with the heir to Blofeld’s iniquitous empire.
Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders There are some really gruesome stories, some tenderness, a small bit of heroism, and a lot of inventiveness and wonder. Is it sci-fi? Is it horror? Fantasy? Are these fairy tales? Yes, yes, yes. Many of the stories hint at epics that could be unwound to novels (he says in his intro that The Monarch of the Glen is in part a revisit with one of his characters from American Gods) while others are little standalone jewels that shouldn't (can't possibly!) be expanded.
Heart of the Dragon's Realm Karalynn Lee has swept me away with her fantastical romance, Heart of the Dragon's Realm. Even though this is my first time reading anything by Lee, the cover jumped out at me, giving a reason to explore further. The image of a young woman leaning on a sword in seemingly deep concentration, while creatures fly around in the background, had me all but trying to crawl through my computer screen to request a copy for review. Kimri's story is even more enticing as it begins. Two kingdoms are at war: Anagard, ruled by Kimri's brother Dereth, and Kenasgate, ruled by a hard, selfish king. On the sidelines of this war is the legendary kingdom of Helsmont, said to be protected by a mountain dragon, to which King Dereth forms an alliance in exchange for Kimri's marriage to its king, Tanath.

High Time to Kill The moods and settings are the best that Benson has done, and the love interest is perhaps his strongest. The real stroke of brilliance in the book is what the author has done with the character of Bond's father in law. A very engaging book. My five-star review is based on Benson's series as a whole. Each book may not be a 5-star book on its own, but I don't think any of them are less than 4. Benson has put his mark on the Bond literary series.
Icebreaker In Icebreaker, Bond is assigned to a team also consisting of American, Israeli, and Russian agents. Their mission in the arctic is to monitor a convoy of stolen high-grade military equipment from a Russian army outpost to a WWII-era bunker serving as the headquarters of the National Socialist Action Army, a well-organized neo-Nazi paramilitary group responsible for a number of terrorist attacks and assassinations. Bond quickly learns that the mission has been compromised. The team has been infiltrated by enemy agents. Additionally, the KGB is using the operation as a scheme to capture and deliver Bond to Moscow.
I Do (But I Don't)
Her dilemma occurs when she feels the sparks flying between herself and Nick, but after meeting several times by accident, and finding that they both seem to have a mutual attraction, she finds out later that he is the groom of one of her brides. What is a girl to do? Read along as Lauren works on some of these crazy weddings, figures out her own love life, deals with an aggressive boss and her aggressive cat Whiskers. As far as chick-lit is concerned, I don't feel there is anything special about this book. The narrator, Lauren, tends to get a bit chatty on occasion, but the story is fun and this book is a great summer read. This reader recommends I DO (BUT I DON'T).
Knot Gneiss This tale takes Wenda and her Companions into the Gap Chasm to retrieve the knot. Wenda uses reverse wood to damp the fearsome emanations from the knot. They load it on a small cart provided by Humfrey and start out toward the Good Magician's castle. Various mishaps occur on the way back to the castle.
Lennox The thriller part moves quickly and does twist and turn rather well until the final 'reveal', but I also enjoyed the atmosphere of post war Glasgow where poverty and violence sit comfortably together. Old fashioned Police attitudes (beating confessions out of prisoners) in a dark and gloomy city where war veterans have learnt how to kill makes the novel's setting an interesting one.

License Renewed In License Renewed, the most famous secret agent in the world pits his nerve and cunning against a dangerously deranged opponent—one prepared to sacrifice most of the Western world to prove that only he can make it safe from accidental holocaust. As the seconds tick away on the valued Rolex Oyster Perpetual, the world comes nearer this ironic annihilation Bond comes nearer a frightful death and ever nearer Miss Lavender Peacock.
Megan's Way Not a unique drama. This story plays itself over and over across the world and will continue to do so. It is the people, the characters involved in such a drama that makes just another story something that is more more beautiful, more real, more naturally realistic. Foster has created a set of characters that we all must come to know. Becoming a Finalist in the Indie Book Awards is not a surprise. There is no way this book would not be separated out as special, fulfilling a need in all of us to know more about death and dying...and how we may find our own way to accept and overcome it! Foster takes us into the potential supernatural aspect of an individual's own will and then permitted fate to appear beyond that...allowing the Holy One of their Ritual to smooth out the edges that remained... A truly joyful book...A Real tearjerker, like I said! One I consider a must-read for teens on up!
Never Dream of Dying Never Dream of Dying has Bond back as the dogged assassin, and thanks to Benson's decision to limit the plot to a few well exploited locales, we're given more than glimpse of the historical Corsica, and the lavish Cannes. Unlike the film makers, Fleming was always smart enough to realize that the setting was as much a part of his novels as any character. By the end of a Fleming novel, and now a Benson novel, we feel as though we've lived a bit of the locale instead of just gotten off the bus for a couple of snapshots.
Never Look Back This novel is a sequel to "Don't Look Now" and has even more action and mystery and humor as well as the stuttering romance between the main characters. Clare Westbrook is a young defense attorney who has been raising her sister's daughter Emma and trying to cope with the slime and associates of those she defends. Clare wants to only defend those clients who she believes are either innocent or have special circumstances. In the previous book, Clare worked for a sleazy kind of guy who gets murdered. She meets Tony (Antonio) Sonterra, a homicide cop, in the course of her adventures.
Nightwoods Charles Frazier is a favorite author of mine, and this book does not disappoint. With a rich story and Frazier's remarkable talents as a storyteller, the story is a can't miss tale that takes you to Appalachia and surrounds you immediately with rich prose and an amazing story. And I loved trying the bacon with popcorn mentioned in the book. That alone is worth some praise.

No Deals, Mr. Bond Two female agents of Operation Cream Cake - double agents and honey traps against the KGB - are murdered. Bond must find the others and conduct them to safety before they meet a similar fate. In a race against time, Bond travels to Ireland and the KGB is soon on the scene. But all is not as it seems and soon Bond finds he needs all his wits to negotiate a labyrinth of double-crossing that is to lead him to a bewildering showdown in a remote corner of the Kowloon province of Hong Kong, where, weaponless, he is hunted by four assassins. No Deals, Mr. Bond is the sixth in the bestselling series created by John Gardner, and one of the most original and unpredictable.
Nobody Lives for Ever Ian Fleming's master spy James Bond in Nobody Lives Forever, 1986 BCE, by John Gardner. Hardcover with dust jacket, 183 pages, published by G. P. Putnam's Sons.
Obsession This was a pretty good book, but I was lost at times going from the past to the present and back all the time. The story was choppy and the cohesiveness lost. Catherine and Dan are both strong characters, but I was impressed with Catherine the most. This woman goes thru hell in a span of just a couple of days, and while she questions her sanity at times, she doesn't lose it. She knows that there are answers, and forges ahead to find them. Interesting story, if you can keep up with it.
Once In a Lifetime Ingrid is Davids wife. He has a son and a daughter, and they have friends and lives of their own that figure into this story. I enjoyed this story. I liked most of the characters and cared what happened to them. I also liked the way that acceptance was both a reality and a lesson. If you are looking for a good story with likable characters, this is a book for you. I will be happy to read more from this writer. I also plan to gift copies to at least two people I know who will enjoy the story, and perhaps learn about acceptance.

Pattern Crimes The novels of William Bayer are unique, both lyrical and gritty, with a style that cannot be copied. Deep character studies, a sophisticated plot and the thrill of discovery are encapsulated in every murder mystery he writes and 'Pattern Crimes' is no exception. One hopes that readers with access to the e-book will include this work in their permanent collections.
Playing James Playing James is a hilarious, romantic and suspensful novel all wrapped into one. I have friends that are in law enforcement and I can see them with some reporter tagging along behind them. I can definately relate to this book and the storyline. Right from the get-go the book moved right along and described the caracters right down to a tee. Like all books, you know who is going to end up with each other and I was so anxious to finish the book and find out what happened to Robin.
Pompeii: City on Fire Nevertheless, this was an enjoyable book. It is fast-reading, plot- and action-driven, as all of Higley's books are, with no dull spots. And it is an excellent glimpse at life in ancient Pompeii. The author paints detailed pictures of the lifestyles and entertainments of the time, showing Rome in all its brutality, violence, decadence and immorality.
Power Down
Does it have action? Definitely! Is it a page-turner? You bet. But it also has near flawless plotting that builds the suspense and lets the reader know the characters, truly caring what happens to them. There are edge-of-your seat chase scenes, but they are balanced with a realistic plot that is extremely plausible in our current age. It combines the horror of terrorism (and the body count is quite high) with the financial markets, and with the US infrastructure power systems as targets. The idea of a terrorist group of a different stripe and with different motivations is a welcome change to the landscape of thriller fiction. The author has certainly done his homework, whether it comes to off shore oil platforms, electricity grids, or the ins and outs of hedge funds. And the character of Dewey Andreas, former Army Ranger and Delta, has all the makings of a new Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, or Dirk Pitt.
Role of Honour The choice is exercised partly by renewal of Bond’s passion for that prince of cars, the Bentley. His departure from the Service requires rather more explanation. Questions in the House all revolved round a possible security leak, with Her Majesty’s Opposition declaring a cover-up. Bond’s grievance is less that he should come under suspicion than that his honor is impeached by the manner in which the truth is exposed.

He lives and breathes his work, his entire life for so long has been wrapped up the SEALs, and that's what he chose. Partly because it's in his blood and partly because he was so
shocked that Kelsey would even make him choose, he was speechless. They broke up, Kelsey became engaged to another man and Gage never got over her.

Yet, as they delve into his past, Jill to clear her friend’s name and Max to secure a conviction, Jill is forced to question her own judgement. And then another body is found…
Shadow Touch The romance is very understated in this one. There are some feelings on both sides, but we only see the very beginning of the romance. I also think the resolution with the shadow comes a little too quick and easy. But that being said, this story is different and engaging and it makes me yearn for the next in the series...

The Collaborators First published in England in 1987, this novel departs from Hill's usual mystery oeuvre ( Ruling Passion ). With thoughtfulness and insight that call to mind le Carre, Hill reconsiders an aspect of the German occupation of France during WW II that many Frenchmen would prefer to forget the collaboration. Set primarily in Paris, the novel follows the lives of Jean-Paul and Janine Simonian, he a Jew, she a boulanger 's daughter married against her parents' wishes. Upon his release from a military hospital after France's humiliating defeat in 1940, Jean-Paul joins the Resistance. For her part, Janine worries about her two children and the husband who has become emotionally so dark and distant. Gunther Mai, an otherwise kindly German officer in the Abwehr , befriends Janine and uses her as a source of information on her husband's activities a relationship that works well until he falls in love with her. What Hill portrays so successfully is the conflict between social and personal responsibility. Through a wonderful range of secondary characters, he skillfully characterizes the collaborator in his various guises from the self-serving black marketeer to the loving mother and wife. Best of all, Hill captures the collapse of morality in occupied France.
The Countess: A Novel of Elizabeth Bathory The Countess of Bathory was accused of killing 612 of her own maidservants. Wow talk about a serious serial killer. It never evens occurs to her that it is considered murder when she beats her maid servants to death. She merely brushes it off as `I had not meant to'. It shows just how insane she had become. The details though are spared as the reader is left wondering sometimes just how twisted these punishments were. Erzsebet was considered the first female serial killer and a `vampire' much like Vlad the Impaled she was said to have bathed in her victims blood. While we aren't 100% certain what happened, Rebecca Johns decides to paint her opposite. Erzsebet is described as a woman trying to make it in a man's world (also Medieval let's not forget times were different then) who just did what was expected of her for her station. Johns shows Erzsebet as a character who was married young to an indifferent husband, widowed and left to survive. I actually at times was empathetic towards her where if I had seen the gore it would have gone the other way. All in all it was an interesting read. At times it is slow going, but I've found that's how it is with most historical fictions so it shouldn't bother genre fans. While I personally wanted the blood (I'm weird) I was pleased at how Johns made me want to like her, and that was no easy feat.
The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May, & June I thought this book was so good and entertaining. The author did a good job on the whole sister rivalry. I loved May so much, she had it the hardest but still was as lovable as her sisters.
The Facts of Death Bond is despatched to Greece, Cyprus and Turkey, where an embittered Greek Cypriot heads a ruthless terrorist organization specializing in biological and chemical weaponry. They have created a deadly virus which they are using to further their own agenda.

You'll still learn a lot from The James Bond Bedside Companion, and you'll find that it is THE essential guide to all things Bond, books and films, all in one place. The Man from Barbarossa John Gardner's Bond novels received pretty mixed reactions from Bond fans, and I can understand people's disappointment if they read his books expecting a big adventure like the Bond movies or the original Fleming novels. The majority of Gardner's novels don't follow the standard Bond formula. Rather than have Bond investigate some billionaire whose planning something evil, Gardner frequently has Bond embroiled in complex espionage plots and pitted against assorted communist agents and terrorists. And instead of describing food and locations in minute detail, Gardner gives details of real-life intelligence agencies, weapons, tradecraft, and the political climate of the time.
The Man With the Red Tattoo On a quiet late-night flight from Tokyo to London, a beautiful young woman, Kioko McMahon, falls ill. Before the plane can reach emergency medical facilities across the Pacific, she succumbs to her inexplicable symptoms. The mystery deepens when police in Japan discover that her family shared her fate. The only survivor is her rebellious sister, Mayumi, who had run off with her gang-member boyfriend several years before.
The Safe Man: A Ghost Story This is a outstanding ghost story by Michael Connelly. Brian Holloway owns his own business. He fixes and repairs locks which seems easy enough until he gets a customer with a safe that is in the wood flooring in his antique home. It seems easy enough, right? Holloway finds out quickly that the safe is one that he has never seen and begins to wonder if there is something wrong with the safe. In fact, Holloway wonders if he feels safe even dealing with this object that he has to open for a customer who seems a bit frustrated about him and the safe.
Win, Lose or Die The return of James Bond to the Royal Navy marks the intriguing backdrop to John Gardner’s thrilling next adventure featuring Ian Fleming’s celebrated hero.
Yarn
The sentences this man writes can inspire me for weeks. "I am the corporate fashion slut of my dreams!" is one early example. Retail Warriors speak in "WarTalk" that is like Calvin Klein perfume ad copy as written by Joseph Conrad. There really is nothing quite like Yarn and Grey that I've found, and spending time in Mr. Armstrong's carefully and thoroughly-wrought world is as luxurious as fine cashmere kissing milk-white skin.

The Greatest Trade Ever: The Behind-the-Scenes Story of How John Paulson Defied Wall Street and Made Financial History (Audiobook) English | 2009 | ISBN: 0385529945 | ASIN: B002W2OVCC , B002VGER32 | MP3 | 320 MB In 2006, hedge-fund manager John Paulson realized something few others suspected: that the housing market and the value of subprime mortgages were grossly inflated and headed for a major fall. Paulson's background was in mergers and acquisitions, however, and he knew little about real estate or how to wager against housing. He had
spent his career as an also-ran on Wall Street. But Paulson was convinced this was his chance to make his mark. He just wasn't sure how to do it. Colleagues at investment banks scoffed at him, and investors dismissed him. Even pros skeptical about housing shied away from the complicated derivative investments that Paulson was just learning about. But Paulson and a handful of renegade investors, such as Jeffrey Greene and Michael Burry, began to bet heavily against risky mortgages and precarious financial companies. Timing is everything, though. Initially, Paulson and the others lost tens of millions of dollars as real estate and stocks continued to soar. Rather than back down, however, Paulson redoubled his bets, putting his hedge fund and his reputation on the line. In the summer of 2007, the markets began to implode, bringing Paulson early profits, but also sparking efforts to rescue real estate and derail him. By year's end, though, John Paulson had pulled off the greatest trade in financial history, earning more than 5 billion for his firm - a figure that dwarfed George Soros's billion-dollar currency trade in 1992. Paulson made billions more in 2008 by transforming his gutsy move. Some of the underdog investors who attempted the daring trade also reaped fortunes. But others who got the timing wrong met devastating failure, discovering that being early and right wasn't nearly enough. Written by the prize-winning reporter who broke the story in The Wall Street Journal, The Greatest Trade Ever is a superbly written behind-the-scenes narrative of how a contrarian foresaw an escalating financial crisis.

When the Wind Blows (Audiobook) English | 2003 | ISBN: 1586215213 | MP3 | 280 MB Taking a break from his phenomenally successful Alex Cross series, James Patterson's When the Wind Blows is as much child's fantasy as it is an adult nightmare. The novel moves away from the gritty Washington, D.C., setting of the
Cross books and follows the daily life of Frannie O'Neill, a Colorado veterinarian. After the mysterious death of her husband several years before, Frannie retreated to an isolated life in her Colorado practice. But a series of bizarre events suddenly disrupts her lonely routine. On a personal level, she is shaken by her new tenant--Kit Harrison. Kit's too handsome and too friendly and he's a hunter (or so Frannie thinks). He's also recovering from a devastating personal tragedy, and, as Frannie eventually learns, he's really an FBI agent using his vacation to follow a crucial lead. But Kit isn't the one that's got Frannie concerned. As she says after stopping her Suburban one night to check out something on the side of the road: "What I saw was way beyond my abilities to imagine, beyond my comprehension, my system of belief, and maybe beyond my ability to communicate right now. The little girl's arms were folded back in a peculiar way, but when she lifted them--feathers fanned out." The girl is Max, and the mystery of her wings leads Frannie and Kit into a massive conspiracy involving secret genetic research and the scientific manipulation of the human species.Patterson, a former advertising executive who coined such catchy phrases as "Nupe it!," knows how to entertain. His chapters are always short (some only two pages), and his writing is clear and unobtrusive; the reading experience is brisk--akin to watching a summer blockbuster. The book is not as dark or as weighty as the tales of detective-psychologist Alex Cross, but while some fans may be disappointed by Patterson's migration from pure suspense fiction, his first-person narrator Frannie, has a quirky realism that keeps this flight of fancy mostly on stable ground. --Patrick O'Kelley
Zone One (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 0307455173 | ASIN: B005WOGR3I | MP3 | 188 MB In this wry take on the post-apocalyptic horror novel, a pandemic has devastated the planet. The plague has sorted humanity into two types: the uninfected and the infected, the living and the living dead. Now the plague is receding, and Americans are busy rebuildÂing civilization under orders from the provisional governÂment based in Buffalo. Their top mission: the resettlement of Manhattan. Armed forces have successfully reclaimed the island south of Canal Street - aka Zone One - but pockets of plague-ridden squatters remain. While the army has eliminated the most dangerous of the infected, teams of civilian volunteers are tasked with clearing out a more innocuous variety - the "malfunctioning" stragglers, who exist in a catatonic state, transfixed by their former lives. Mark Spitz is a member of one of the civilian teams workÂing in lower Manhattan. Alternating between flashbacks of Spitz's desperate fight for survival during the worst of the outbreak and his present narrative, the novel unfolds over three surreal days, as it depicts the mundane mission of straggler removal, the rigors of Post-Apocalyptic Stress Disorder, and the impossible job of coming to grips with the fallen world. And then things start to go wrong. Both spine chilling and playfully cerebral, Zone One brilÂliantly subverts the genre's conventions and deconstructs the zombie myth for the twenty-first century.
Does the Noise in My Head Bother You? A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 006201658X | M4B | 377 MB “Steven Tyler is one of the giants of American music, who’s been influential for a whole generation of Rock ’n’ Roll fans around the world. Long May He Rock!”—Sir Paul McCartney The no-holds-barred memoir from the legendary Aerosmith frontman has arrived. With tales of debauchery, sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, the Demon of Screamin' describes his highs and lows as lead singer of the biggest rock band in the world. With his raw, sharp-edged vocals, musical versatility and unprecedented song writing skills, Tyler has, as lead singer of Aerosmith, sold millions of records and played sell-out concerts to as many as 450,000 people. Now, at last, he tells his own story, taking us on a wild rollercoaster ride through the bust-ups, binges, orgies, and good old American excess in the jaw-droppingly honest, in-your-face way that only Tyler can. Following a fateful meeting with his 'mutant twin', Joe Perry, in the summer of 1970, Aerosmith was formed...and the rest, as they say, is rock history. They released their first album in 1973, and by 1976 Aerosmith had gone from being nobodies to massive to off the radar, making history as a multi-platinum, chart-topping band. But with great success comes great excess. Nicknamed the Toxic Twins for their insatiable appetite for drugs, booze, and women, Tyler and Perry got caught up in the glamour of self-destruction - smashing each other up with guitars, having seizures, and passing out on stage. As raucous, intoxicating, and edgy as his music, this is the most outrageous rock 'n' roll autobiography of all time.

English | 2012 | ISBN: 0449014509 | ASIN: B009SESFY2 | MP3 | 302 MB Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy-after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera-it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can't blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon figurehead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace. And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket, Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving command: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find-and close-the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her? Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader-but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.

Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0307934179, 0812979796 | MP3 | 21 hrs 23 mins | 589 MB In this magisterial new biography, New York Times best-selling author Sally Bedell Smith brings to life one of the world's most fascinating and enigmatic women: Queen Elizabeth II. From the moment of her ascension to the throne in 1952 at the age of twenty-five, Queen Elizabeth II has been the object of unparalleled scrutiny. But through the fog of glamour and gossip, how well do we really know the world's most famous monarch? Drawing on numerous interviews and never-before-revealed documents, acclaimed biographer Sally Bedell Smith pulls back the curtain to show in intimate detail the public and private lives of Queen Elizabeth II, who has led her country and Commonwealth through the wars and upheavals of the last sixty years with unparalleled composure, intelligence, and grace. In Elizabeth the Queen, we meet the young girl who suddenly becomes "heiress presumptive" when her uncle abdicates the throne. We meet the thirteen-year-old Lilibet as she falls in love with a young navy cadet named Philip and becomes determined to marry him, even though her parents prefer wealthier English aristocrats. We see the teenage Lilibet repairing army trucks during World War II and standing with Winston Churchill on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on V-E Day. We see the young Queen struggling to balance the demands of her job with her role as the mother of two young children. Sally Bedell Smith brings us inside the palace doors and into the Queen's daily routines - the "red boxes" of documents she reviews each day, the weekly meetings she has had with twelve prime ministers, her physically demanding tours abroad, and the constant scrutiny of the press - as well as her personal relationships: with Prince Philip, her husband of sixty-four years and the love of her life; her children and their oftendisastrous marriages; her grandchildren and friends.

What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures (Audiobook) English | 2010| ISBN: 0316076201, 1600249159 | ASIN: B002V9XXAM | Audio CD in MP3 | 737 MB What is the difference between choking and panicking? Why are there dozens of varieties of mustard-but only one variety of ketchup? What do football players teach us about how to hire teachers? What does hair dye tell us about the history of the 20th century? In the past decade, Malcolm Gladwell has written three books that have radically changed how we understand our world and ourselves: The Tipping Point; Blink; and Outliers. Now, in What the Dog Saw, he brings together, for the first time, the best of his writing from TheNew Yorker over the same period. Here is the bittersweet tale of the inventor of the birth control pill, and the dazzling inventions of the pasta sauce pioneer Howard Moscowitz. Gladwell sits with Ron Popeil, the king of the American kitchen, as he sells rotisserie ovens, and divines the secrets of Cesar Millan, the "dog whisperer" who can calm savage animals with the touch of his hand. He explores intelligence tests and ethnic profiling and "hindsight bias" and why it was that everyone in Silicon Valley once tripped over themselves to hire the same college graduate. "Good writing," Gladwell says in his preface, "does not succeed or fail on the strength of its ability to persuade. It succeeds or fails on the strength of its ability to engage you, to make you think, to give you a glimpse into someone else's head."What the Dog Saw is yet another example of the buoyant spirit and unflagging curiosity that have made Malcolm Gladwell our most brilliant investigator of the hidden extraordinary.

The Fall of Berlin 1945 (Audiobook) English | 2003 | ISBN: 0753115476, 0142002801 | MP3 | 480 MB Acclaimed for his vivid re-creations of some of the twentieth century's most significant battles, Antony Beevor is one of the best known and respected military historians writing today. He now offers readers a gripping, street-level portrait of the harrowing days of January 1945 in Berlin when the vengeful Red Army and beleaguered Nazi forces clashed for a final time. The result was the most gruesome display of brutality in the war, with tanks crushing refugee columns, mass rapes, pillage, and destruction. Hundreds of thousands of German civilians froze to death or were massacred because Nazi officials had forbidden their evacuation. Hitler, half crazed in his bunker, issued wild orders while Stalin was prepared to risk any number of his men to seize the city before the other Allies could get there. Making full use of newly disclosed material from former Soviet files as well as from German, American, British, French, and Swedish archives, Beevor has reconstructed the different experiences of those millions caught up in the death throes of the Third Reich. The Fall of Berlin 1945 depicts not only the brutality and desperation of a city under siege but also rare moments of extreme humanity and heroism. This account also contains new revelations about the motives behind Stalin's hurried assault. Sure to appeal to all readers interested in military history and the Second World War, The Fall of Berlin 1945 promises to be the definitive treatment of the subject for years to come.

The Encyclopedia of American Crime: volume 1 (2nd edition) English | 2001-06 | ISBN: 0816046336 | PDF | 996 pages | 7.56 MB A welcome update of a standard resource. More than 2000 alphabetically arranged entries chronicle every conceivable manifestation of crime in the U.S. from the Salem witchcraft trials to today's cash-machine rackets. Articles range from a paragraph to more than a page, and most begin with a helpful identifying phrase. The writing is lively and informative, but in most cases assumes some familiarity with the subject. However, many relevant terms, such as bigamy, hoodlum, three-card monte, plea bargaining, and drygulch, have their own entries. The most significant revision is the inclusion of many biographies, on such figures from the last 20 years as the Mayflower Madam, John Gotti, Matthew Shepard, and Charles Keating. Unfortunately, unlike the 1982 edition, there is no indication on the spines as to which letters are covered in which volume. Scattered black-and-white photos and reproductions illustrate the text. A useful set for student reports, answering reference questions, or perusing for insights into the society we have created. Andrew Medlar, Chicago Public Library, IL Freelance writer Sifakis (The Encyclopedia of Gambling; The Mafia Encyclopedia) has updated his fascinating reference work on crimes, criminals, lawyers, and lawmen. Arranged alphabetically and containing 182 photos and illustrations, the book has 2000 well-written, pithy entries. Crime stops for no one, and this second edition adds coverage of such recent developments as the O.J. Simpson trial, the Jean Harris trial, the Oklahoma City Bombing, female serial killers, and white-collar criminals. The book is exhaustive in scope, encompassing Bluebeard the pirate and turn-of-the-century criminals, as well as Mafia informer "Sammy the Bull" Gravano. The entry on Gravano, for example, conveys in 13 paragraphs the essence of the case against Mafia don John Gotti, as well as details of Gravano's life in the federal protection program. Sifakis has an eye for the telling quote by or about the colorful characters in this book, making for entertaining reading. Recommended for all libraries.DHarry Charles, Attorney at Law, St. Louis

Encyclopedia of Death and the Human Experience English | 2009-06-15 | ISBN: 141295178X | 1160 pages | PDF | 11.82 MB In approximately 330 entries, the Encyclopedia of Death and the Human Experience presents “a range of insightful interdisciplinary topics” related to the human response to death and dying and the attendant rituals and practices. The alphabetically arranged entries discuss matters from Abortion to Zombies, revenants, vampires, and reanimated corpses. The entries for Brain death and Defining and conceptualizing death offer definitions of death. The details provided in the descriptions of Cremation and Embalming may well make one consider Green burials as an alternative. The psychological aspects of death are explored in entries such as Death anxiety, Memorials, and Survivor guilt. Because religions have often informed our views on death, the beliefs and traditions of many religions, such as Christianity and Hinduism, and those of Mesoamerican/pre-Columbian cultures, among others, are presented. Social questions such as Palliative care and Quality of life are discussed. A range of legal issues, including Estate planning and Forensic science, are treated. Finally, an encyclopedia on death would not be complete without entries on such topics as Cannibalism, Necrophilia, and Neonaticide. Each entry contains cross-references and a list of further reading, and a “Reader’s Guide” that arranges entries under broad topics aids navigation. Lists of death-related Web sites and organizations are appended. Although thinking about death and dying may well be something many of us would prefer not to do, the entries in the encyclopedia provide helpful introductions—as seen from the perspectives of such academic disciplines as art, economics, philosophy, psychology, religion, science, social work, and sociology—to the multifaceted issues surrounding an event everyone will encounter.

The Durants, capable of switching from art to science to warfare with ease and skill, rank among the world's great popular historians. If you want a detailed history of Napoleon's battle orders, look elsewhere, but if you want to understand the age and the man--in that order--The Age of Napoleon is a great place to begin.

Boundaries in Marriage: Understanding the Choices That Make or Break Loving Relationships (Audiobook) English | 2006 | ISBN: 0310270839 | MP3 | 9 hrs 02 mins | 444 Mb Establishing and understanding boundaries are crucial to the success of a marriage, according to authors Cloud and Townsend, who cowrote the award-winning and biblically-based book Boundaries. For example, boundaries help us understand where one person ends and the other begins, the authors claim: "Once we know the boundaries, we know who should be owning the problem we are wrestling with," they write. "This issue of ownership is vital to any relationship, especially marriage." But more significantly, couples need to claim and take responsibility for the "treasures that lie within their individual borders," such as: "feelings, attitudes, behaviors, choices, limits, desires,
thoughts, values, talents, and love." Based on the book that elevated them to national prominence, Cloud and Townsend caution readers not to use this self-help manifesto as a means to change one's spouse. The Fortune Tellers: Inside Wall Street's Game of Money, Media, and Manipulation (Audiobook) English | 2000 | ISBN: 0743510097, 0684868806 | MP3 | 3 hrs 55 mins | 107.75 MB Kurtz is the Washington Post's media reporter and hosts CNN's Reliable Sources. His three previous books have all looked at various aspects of the way news is reported. He has offered examples of how newspapers have mishandled major stories in Media Circus (1993), lamented the proliferation of talk shows in Hot Air: All Talk, All the Time (1996), and investigated the relationship between reporters and President Clinton's press office in Spin Cycle: Inside the Clinton Propaganda Machine (1998). Now he looks at the explosive growth of financial journalism and questions the reliability of some financial information, wonders about the timing of certain news stories and releases, and raises ethical concerns about conflicts of interest. Kurtz especially sees problems when brokerage house analysts are called on as commentators. He offers up a brief history of financial news reporting, and he profiles some of the more colorful and controversial figures in the field. Much of what Kurtz exposes should serve as a warning to information-hungry investors who are often too quick to follow publicity bandwagons.

Men Are from Mars, Woman Are from Venus (Audiobook)
English | 2007 | ISBN: 006123205X | MP3 | 85 MB Once upon a time, Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in: they forgot they were from different planets. Using this metaphor to illustrate the commonly occurring conflicts between men and women, Dr. John Gray explains how these differences can come between the sexes and prohibit mutually fulfilling, loving relationships. Based on years of successful counseling of couples and individuals, he gives advice on how to counteract these differences in communication styles, emotional needs and modes of behavior to promote a greater understanding between individual partners. Now available in its complete, unabridged form, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is an invaluable tool for developing deeper and more satisfying relationships.
The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism (Audiobook) English | 2011 | 8 hours and 46 mins | ISBN: 1441785876 | MP3 | 179 MB Since Obama took office, Americans have heard him accused of pursuing ''socialism,'' but most people don't know what that means; this book explains exactly what socialism is -- and is not. Liberals scoff when conservatives denounce Obama and his policies as socialist. After all, they argue, Obama isn't Stalin and America is nothing like the Soviet Union. But socialism doesn't always resemble the Berlin Wall or the Iron Curtain, as National Review editor Kevin Williamson proves in his new book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism. In this new P.I. Guide, Williamson reveals the truth: despite what the liberal politicians and leftist pundits would have you believe, the policies coming out of Washington today are nothing more than socialism disguised as equality and justice for all. Tracing socialism back to its roots, Williamson defines this misunderstood ideology, explains the different forms socialism takes on, and shows how it is thriving right here in the United States in the form of ''Obamacare,'' financial regulations, and more. Offering conservatives the political and rhetorical ammunition they need to combat the liberal lies about one of the most misunderstood ideologies in modern history, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism reveals why everything socialism purports to do, the free market does better.
The Politically Incorrect Guide To The Constitution (Audiobook) English | Unabridged edition 2007 | Language: English | ISBN: 0786157836 ; 0786168021 ; 0786169567 ; 0786149817 ; 078616803X | Audio CD in MP3/64Kbps | 100 MB The Constitution of the United States created a representative republic marked by federalism and the separation of powers. Yet numerous federal judges—led by the Supreme Court—have used the Constitution as a blank check to substitute their own views on hot-button issues such as abortion, capital punishment, and samesex marriage for perfectly constitutional laws enacted by We the People through our elected representatives. Now, The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to the Constitution shows that there is very little relationship between the Constitution as ratified by the thirteen original states more than two centuries ago and the “constitutional law” imposed upon us since then. Instead of the system of state-level decision makers and elected officials the Constitution was intended to create, judges have given us a highly centralized system in which bureaucrats and appointed—not elected—officials make most of the important policies. In The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to the Constitution, Professor Kevin Gutzman, who holds advanced degrees in both law and American history: * explains how the Constitution was understood by the founders who wrote it and the people who ratified it * follows the Supreme Court as it uses the fig leaf of the Constitution to cover its naked usurpation of the rights and powers the Constitution explicitly reserves to the states and to the people * shows how we slid from the Constitution’s republican federal government, with its very limited powers, to an unrepublican “judgeocracy” with limitless powers * reveals how huge swaths of American law and society were remade in the wake of Supreme Court rulings * reveals how the Fourteenth Amendment has been twisted to use the Bill of Rights as a check on state power instead of on federal power, as originally intended * exposes the radical inconsistency between “constitutional law” and the rule of law * contends that the judges who receive the most attention in history books are celebrated for acting against the Constitution rather than for it As Professor Gutzman shows, constitutional law is supposed to apply the Constitution’s plain meaning to prevent judges, presidents, and congresses from overstepping their authority. If we want to return to the founding fathers’ vision of the Republic, if we want the Constitution enforced in the way it was explained to the people at the time of its ratification, then we have to overcome the “received wisdom” about what constitutional law is. The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to the Constitution is an important step in that direction.
Visions: How Science Will Revolutionize the 21st Century (Audiobook) English | 1998 | ISBN: 0385484992 | MP3 | 215 MB In Visions, physicist and author Michio Kaku examines the great scientific revolutions that have dramatically reshaped the twentieth century--the quantum mechanics, biogenetics, and artificial intelligence--and shows how they will change and alter science and the way we live. The next century will witness more far-reaching scientific revolutions, as we make the transition from unraveling the secrets of nature to becoming masters of nature. We will no longer be passive bystanders to the dance of the universe, but will become creative choreographers of matter, life, and intelligence. The first section of Visions presents a shocking look at a cyber-world infiltrated by millions of tiny intelligence systems. Part two illustrates how the decoding of DNA's genetic structure will allow humans the "godlike ability to manipulate life almost at will." Finally, VISIONS focuses on the future of quantum physics, in which physicists will perfect new ways to manipulate matter and harness the cosmic energy of the universe. What makes Michio Kaku's vision of the science of the future so compelling--and so different from the mere forecasts of most thinkers--is that it is based on the groundbreaking research taking place in labs today, as well as the consensus of over 150 of Kaku's scientific colleagues. Science, for all its breathtaking change, evolves slowly; we can accurately predict, asserts Kaku, what the direction of science will be, based on the paths that are being forged today. A thrilling, unique narrative that brings together the thinking of many of the world's most accomplished scientists to explore the world of the future, Visions is science writing at its best.
Waging Heavy Peace (Audiobook)
English | September 25, 2012 | ISBN: 1611761131 | MP3 | 272 MB For the first time, legendary singer, songwriter, and guitarist Neil Young offers a kaleidoscopic view of his personal life and musical creativity. He tells of his childhood in Ontario, where his father instilled in him a love for the written word; his first brush with mortality when he contracted polio at the age of five; struggling to pay rent during his early days with the Squires; traveling the Canadian prairies in Mort, his 1948 Buick hearse; performing in a remote town as a polar bear prowled beneath the floorboards; leaving Canada on a whim in 1966 to pursue his musical dreams in the pot-filled boulevards and communal canyons of Los Angeles; the brief but influential life of Buffalo Springfield, which formed almost immediately after his arrival in California. He recounts their rapid rise to fame and ultimate break-up; going solo and overcoming his fear of singing alone; forming Crazy Horse and writing “Cinnamon Girl,” “Cowgirl in the Sand,” and “Down by the River” in one day while sick with the flu; joining Crosby, Stills & Nash, recording the landmark CSNY album, Déjà vu, and writing the song, “Ohio;” life at his secluded ranch in the redwoods of Northern California and the pot-filled jam sessions there; falling in love with his wife, Pegi, and the birth of his three children; and finally, finding the contemplative paradise of Hawaii. Astoundingly candid, witty, and as uncompromising and true as his music, Waging Heavy Peace is Neil Young’s journey as only he can tell it.

Keeping It Real (Quantum Gravity, Book 1) (Audiobook) English | 2007 | ISBN: 057507907X | ASIN: B0030I1XPA | MP3 | 353 MB The Quantum Bomb of 2015 changed everything. The fabric that kept the universe's different dimensions apart was torn and now, six years later, the people of earth exist in uneasy company with the inhabitants of, amongst others, the elfin, elemental, and demonic realms. Magic is real and can be even more dangerous than technology. Elves are exotic, erotic, dangerous, and really bored with the constant Lord of the Rings references. Elementals are a law unto themselves and demons are best left well to themselves. Special agent Lila Black used to be pretty, but now she's not so sure. Her body is more than half restless carbon and metal alloy machinery, a machine she's barely in control of. It goes into combat mode, enough weapons for a small army springing from within itself, at the merest provocation. As for her heart, well, ever since being drawn into a game by the elfin rockstar Zal (lead singer of the No Shows), who she's been assigned to protect, she's not even sure she can trust that any more either.
"There's a treat in store for you all, as the new Justina Robson is out. Lila Black is a spy, and a bodyguard, and every so often she breaks into the sheer joy of the toys she carries within her. It's good to see that almost na誰ve geek love you see among born techies translated into a character so beautifully. The only truly bad thing about this book is that it isn't stand-alone and now I've got to wait until she's finished writing the next one, wanting much, much more." -Starburst (Five Star review)
Selling Out (Quantum Gravity, Book 2) (Audiobook) English | 2007 | ISBN: 1591025974 | ASIN: B0030I1XNC | MP3 | 387 MB Book two of the Quantum Gravity series sees Lila Black drawn into the intoxicatingly dangerous demon realm. Capricious, in love with beauty, demons are best left to themselves. This is not easy when they can't resist tampering with humans. Justina Robson's new series is a joyful melding of science fiction and fantasy brought together in the figure of the dangerously lovely Lila Black, a 21-year-old secret agent who's had much of her body replaced with weapon-andarmor-heavy intelligent metal and who isn't sure where her mind ends and her installed AI begins. Lila's world is one where demons, elves, and elementals live alongside people. And somehow Lila and the other agents of the security agency have to provide security for all and stay alive themselves.
Going Under: Quantum Gravity, Book 3 (Audiobook) English | 2009 | ASIN: B001UHYGWA | 13 hours and 3 minutes | MP3 | 372 MB
Ever since the Quantum Bomb of 2015 things have been different; the dimensions have fused and suddenly our world is accessible to elves, demons, ghosts and elementals and their worlds are open to us. Things have been different for Special Agent Lila Black too: tortured and magic-scarred by elves, rebuilt by humans into a half-robot, part-AI, nuclear-fueled walking arsenal, and carrying the essence of a dead elfin necromancer in her chest, sometimes she has trouble figuring out who she is. And a mission to the world of the fae may not help her work it out. The fae are beautiful, glamorous, exotic, and talented. Their inventions make food taste better, make beer divine, and bring sparkle and mischief to the world but that's only the surface. And Lila is being sent in at the deep end, to the deepest, darkest levels of Faerie: on the primal level, nothing about the fae is glamorous at all. In a winter-locked, raw, and primitive world, Lila has to deal with the fae at their most basic levels, as tricksters and dealmakers and the only deals worth making are bloody ones. If Lila's quest is to succeed, and if she is ever to escape Faerie, the right question must be asked, the right sacrifice must be made, and the right quarry must be hunted down on the winter solstice. All of which is difficult, when the only aides Lila brought to Faerie are her friends . . . Justina Robson's new series combines her trademark themes of identity and reality, magic and technology, breakneck plots, a mischievous sense of fun, and a seriously sexy new heroine.

The Struggle for Egypt: From Nasser to Tahrir Square 2012 | ISBN-10: 0199795266 | PDF | 424 pages | 4 MB
The recent revolution in Egypt has shaken the Arab world to its roots. The most populous Arab country and the historical center of Arab intellectual life, Egypt is a linchpin of the US's Middle East strategy, receiving more aid than any nation except Israel. This is not the first time that the world and has turned its gaze to Egypt, however. A half century ago, Egypt under Nasser became the putative leader of the Arab world and a beacon for all developing nations. Yet in the decades prior to the 2011 revolution, it was ruled over by a sclerotic regime plagued by nepotism and corruption. During that time, its economy declined into near shambles, a severely overpopulated Cairo fell into disrepair, and it produced scores of violent Islamic extremists such as Ayman al-Zawahiri and Mohammed Atta. In The Struggle for Egypt, Steven Cook--a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations--explains how this parlous state of affairs came to be, why the revolution occurred, and where Egypt might be headed next. A sweeping account of Egypt in the modern era, it incisively chronicles all of the nation's central historical episodes: the decline of British rule, the rise of Nasser and his quest to become a pan-Arab leader, Egypt's decision to make peace with Israel and ally with the United States, the assassination of Sadat, the emergence of the Muslim Brotherhood, and--finally-the demonstrations that convulsed Tahrir Square and overthrew an entrenched regime. Throughout Egypt's history, there has been an intense debate to define what Egypt is, what it stands for, and its relation to the world. Egyptians now have an opportunity to finally answer these questions. Doing so in a way that appeals to the vast majority of Egyptians, Cook notes, will be difficult but ultimately necessary if Egypt is to become an economically dynamic and politically vibrant society.
1915: The Death of Innocence 2000 | ISBN-10: 0801864437, 0805034994 | EPUB, MOBI | 672 pages | 12 + 13 MB By Christmas 1914, the wild wave of enthusiasm that had sent men flocking to join up a few months earlier began to tail off, and though the original British Expeditionary Force had suffered 90 percent casualties, most people, particularly the soldiers themselves, still believed that 1915 would see the breaking of the deadlock. But their hopes were shattered on the bloody battlefields of Neuve Chapelle, Ypres, Loos, and far away on the shores of Gallipoli. Lyn Macdonald's story of 1915 is stark, brutal, frank, sometimes painfully funny, always human. Never before has any writer collected so many firsthand accounts of the experiences of ordinary soldiers, through diaries, letters, and interviews with survivors—and it is the dogged heroism and sardonic humor of the soldiers that shine through the pages of this epic narrative. 1915 is a uniquely compelling blend of military history and poignant memories of the fighters who survived the ordeal.
A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War 2006 | ISBN-10: 0812969707 | EPUB, MOBI | 416 pages | 6 MB One of our most provocative military historians, Victor Davis Hanson has given us painstakingly researched and pathbreaking accounts of wars ranging from classical antiquity to the twenty-first century. Now he juxtaposes an ancient conflict with our most urgent modern concerns to create his most engrossing work to date, A War Like No Other. Over the course of a generation, the Hellenic city-states of Athens and Sparta fought a bloody conflict that resulted in the collapse of Athens and the end of its golden age. Thucydides wrote the standard history of the Peloponnesian War, which has given readers throughout the ages a vivid and authoritative narrative. But Hanson offers readers something new: a complete chronological account that reflects the political background of the time, the strategic thinking of the combatants, the misery of battle in multifaceted theaters, and important insight into how these events echo in the present. Hanson compellingly portrays the ways Athens and Sparta fought on land and sea, in city and countryside, and details their employment of the full scope of conventional and nonconventional tactics, from sieges to targeted assassinations, torture, and terrorism. He also assesses the crucial roles played by warriors such as Pericles and Lysander, artists, among them Aristophanes, and thinkers including Sophocles and Plato. Hanson’s perceptive analysis of events and personalities raises many thought-provoking questions: Were Athens and Sparta like America and Russia, two superpowers battling to the death? Is the Peloponnesian War echoed in the endless, frustrating conflicts of Vietnam, Northern Ireland, and the current Middle East? Or was it more like America’s own Civil War, a brutal rift that rent the fabric of a glorious society, or even this century’s “red state—blue state” schism between liberals and conservatives, a cultural war that manifestly controls military policies? Hanson daringly brings the facts to life and unearths the often surprising ways in which the past informs the present. Brilliantly researched, dynamically written, A War Like No Other is like no other history of this important war.
The Terror Conspiracy: Deception, 9/11 and the Loss of Liberty 2006 | ISBN-10: 1932857435 | PDF | 482 pages | 4 MB Jim Marrs presents the official government pronouncement on 9/11 as an obvious conspiracy. The only question is whose conspiracy it was. According to the government, the conspiracy involved about nineteen suicidal Middle Eastern Muslim terrorists, their hearts full of hatred for American freedom and democracy, who hijacked four airliners, crashing two into the Twin Towers of New York City's World Trade Center and a third into the Pentagon, near Washington, DC. The fourth airliner reportedly crashed in western Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to overcome the hijackers. To add insult to injury, this whole incredible Mission Impossible operation, which defeated a forty-billion-dollar defense system, was under the total control of a devout Muslim cleric using a computer while hiding in a cave in Afghanistan. Primarily using mainstream media and government reports, Marrs has crafted the definitive journalistic account exposing the likely complicity of the Bush administration in the 9/11 attacks, providing a history of the overt and covert causes of the events. However, his analysis goes far beyond 9/11, enabling us to understand the motivation behind American foreign policy, with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as primary examples of the US government's secret agenda.

The Rasputin File 2000 | ISBN-10: 0385489099 | EPUB, MOBI | 544 pages | 6 + 5 MB Rasputin, one of the most fascinating and controversial figures of the twentieth century, has remained cloaked in the myth of his own devising since his extraordinary ascent to power in the court of Nicholas and Alexandra, the last tsar and tsarina of Russia. Until now. Edvard Radzinsky, the author of the international bestseller The Last Tsar, had long been frustrated by the meager explanations of the malign authority of Grigory Efimovich Rasputin, a Russian peasant, semiliterate monk, and mystic, in the last Romanov court. Then, in 1995, a file from the State Archives that had been missing for years came up for auction at Sotheby's, and was put in Radzinsky's hands. It contained the interrogations of Rasputin's inner circle of
admirers and those who kept him under police surveillance--documents never seen by any other historian. With this file, Radzinsky is able to transform the biography of Rasputin from mysterious legend into fact. Using the depositions of Rasputin's friends, teachers, devotees, and fanatical female fans--the people who watched Rasputin nearly every day--Radzinsky presents a fascinating account of how Rasputin exercised and enlarged his power. Radzinsky reveals the full extent of Rasputin's charged relationship with the tsarina, and chronicles Rasputin's famous sexual odyssey through the demimonde of St. Petersburg, using the debauched women's own astonishingly frank testimony to uncover a trove of surprising secrets. Here is documented, for the first time, the way in which Rasputin actually gained access to the tsarist court, and the true identity of the man who shot and killed Rasputin in 1916. And finally, the author is able to provide the real reasons behind Rasputin's sway in virtually every imperial decision at the end of Russia's royal Romanov dynasty. Through his exclusive access to the Rasputin File, his own unrivaled research into other resources, and his proven talent for dramatic storytelling, Radzinsky is finally able to tell the complete, sensational story of Rasputin, fully documented and definitive. Edvard Radzinsky's fascination with Rasputin grew as he was writing The Last Tsar, but until he could penetrate the mystery he would not proceed. And then, miraculously, the documents long missing from the KGB files surfaced, finally enabling him to tell the story of the man who held such a hypnotic influence over the last Russian Tsar and Tsarina, and ultimately determined the fate of his country. Based on Radzinsky's persistent scholarship and enlivened by his superb flair for the dramatic, THE RASPUTIN FILE is a mesmerizing account of the man and brings a new understanding to the nature of Rasputin's power.
The Basque History of the World: The Story of a Nation 2001 | ISBN-10: 0140298517 | PDF | 400 pages | 5 MB Straddling the border of southern France and northern Spain, the land of the Basques has long been home to a people who had no country of their own but have always viewed themselves as a nation. In this marvelous work of cultural history and appreciation, Kurlansky traces Basque history from pre-Roman times, when Basques worked as the mercenaries of Carthage, to the region's recent renaissance in language and arts. Along the way, he explains how the Basques came to be among Europe's first whalers, capitalists, explorers, industrialists and international traders. As he did in Cod, Kurlansky fuses political and economic history with delightful digressions into cultural and culinary traditions (several delicious recipes are included). The book is as politically loaded with opinion as it is culturally informative: Kurlansky expresses sympathy for the cause of Basque independence, arguing that many of Spain's current policies toward its Basque minority are holdovers from the repressive Franco regime. He also tends to accept the claim that the Basques "are the original Europeans," largely on the ground that Euskera, the Basque language, appears to have no linguistic relative and is likely the oldest European language still spoken. For all the ground it covers, this wildly informative work is a marvel of clarity, glittering with unusual facts and marked by penetrating insights into a people always "making complex choices about the degree of independence that was needed to preserve their way of life, while looking to the rest of the world for commercial opportunities to ensure their prosperity."
Coffeehouse Chess Tactics 2010 | ISBN-10: 905691328X | PDF | 128 pages | 5 MB In 1988, his autobiography ?The Grass Arena? catapulted John Healy to worldwide literary fame. That harrowing tale described how Healy by discovering chess, escaped alcoholism, violence and crime. Many fans have wondered how Healy did as a chess player. In this book Healy uses over a hundred of his own games to show how unusual tactics or defensive motifs can turn the tide in any position. Along with the games the author describes in eloquent but brutal language the beautiful, sometimes terrible world of chess. The prologue ?Blood Sport? is a fine piece of vintage Healy non-fiction. A must-buy book for chess lovers, tactics buffs and Healy fans.

Move First, Think Later: Sense and Nonsense in Improving Your Chess 2012 | ISBN-10: 9056913980 | PDF | 240 pages | 6 MB The chess playing mind does not work like a machine. Selecting a move results from rather chaotic thought processes and is not the logical outcome of applying a rational method. The only problem with that, says International Master Willy Hendriks, is that most books and courses on improving at chess claim exactly the opposite. The dogma of the chess instruction establishment is that if you only take a good look at certain ‘characteristics’ of a position, then good moves will follow more or less automatically. But this is not how it happens. Chess players, weak and strong, don’t first judge the position, then formulate a plan and afterwards look at moves. It all happens at the same time, and pretending that it is otherwise is counterproductive. There is no use in forcing your students to mentally jump through theoretical hoops, according to experienced chess coach Hendriks. This work shows a healthy distrust of accepted methods to get better at chess. It teaches that winning games does not depend on ticking off a to-do list when looking at a position
Growing Vegetables in Home Gardens
2010 | ISBN-10: N/A | PDF | 2 pages | 5 MB Introduction Gardening can be highly rewarding, but it is notwithout problems and efforts. A successful garden requires a good site, careful planning, good management and considerable hard work. Insects, diseases and weeds require control measures. Acidic, infertile, poorly drained or sandy soil may have to be improved. Shade and extremes of moisture and temperature are other problems that must be overcome for a garden to be successful. For those willing to plan carefully and to perform timely gardening tasks, gardening can be very worthwhile. A vegetable garden can produce a steady supply of vegetables from spring to fall. These vegetables can be harvested at optimum maturity and eaten or preserved while fresh. Fresh vegetables may be higher in flavor and nutritive value and lower in cost than purchased vegetables, which may have been harvested several days earlier. Vegetable production provides healthful exercise and an interesting outdoor activity for the entire family. Many gardeners feel the sense of accomplishment, selfsufficiency and security accompanying a successful garden are other significant rewards of gardening. A site near the house makes it more convenient to care for the garden and to harvest vegetables. Water is available for transplanting and irrigation. Children or animals in the garden can be observed, and the garden may be protected from these and other potential problems. Planning the Garden Planning the Garden Planning the Garden Planning the Garden Planning the Garden A garden plan will save time, space and money. Yields will be increased, as will the length of the harvest season. Begin by making a scale drawing of your available garden area on graph paper. Divide the drawing into coolseason and warm-season vegetable planting areas. Cool-season vegetables are those such as onions, cabbage, radishes and English peas. They require cool weather to grow and mature properly and can withstand some frost. Cool-season vegetables are planted in the early spring and again in the fall. Warm-season vegetables require warm weather to grow properly and are planted after the soil has warmed up. Frost will kill warm-season vegetables. Examples of warm-season vegetables include okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes.

The Sex Doll: A History 2010 | ISBN-10: 078644794X | PDF | 236 pages | 5 MB This scholarly study of the centuries-long history of fornicatory dolls examines the enduring obsession with creating an idealized, silent female sexual object and the manifestations of this desire through the ages in mythology, literature, art, philosophy and science. This particular sexual impulse has been expressed in a great variety of forms such as statues, mannequins, sex dolls, and gynoids (robots). In particular this study focuses on the evolution of the sex doll through its original incarnation as a sack cloth effigy, through the marketing of inflatable dolls, to the current elaborate cyber-technology figures, in an attempt to discover the hidden drives and desires which fuel this ongoing fantasy of creating a perfect, powerless, silent partner.
