50% Off Murder (Good Buy Girls) Maggie, Claire, Ginger and Joanne make up the Good Buy Girls. Normally they like to sit around swapping coupons, planning the next shopping spree and discussing the latest bargains they have found. Those things change when Claire, the librarian at St. Stanley's library and Maggie find a dead man in the basement of the library with Claire's cake knife sticking out of his chest. Once it is known that Claire had dated the dead man before, she becomes a prime suspect and is arrested.

A Deal to Die For (Good Buy Girls) This book is the second in the series about 4 friends who love to shop for great bargains with a little murder mystery thrown in. The plot is fast moving and fairly funny. My only beef is the main character is opening a resale shop but never seems to work on it. But, this is fiction. If you love to read about good bargain shopping and great friends, with a little mystery thrown in this is the series for you.

All Fall Down The only problem with this book is, with everyone falling to a voracious virus, it's not long before you start to wonder if you might be about to do the same. Do you have a bit of a sore throat? A temperature? It could be just a cold, but ... I've been to see the doctor twice this week. Anyway, that aside, ALL FALL DOWN is a cracking tale that soon gathers momentum and rattles along at breakneck pace, the intermingling threads of the well-drawn protagonists lives skillfully woven and building towards a climax filled with twists and turns.

And Then You Dye (A Needlecraft Mystery)

Monica Ferris this time weaves dyeing into the latest needlework shop mystery! With the introduction of the new technique, it keeps the series moving along in such a way that I can't wait to get the next one! A lover of books in a series, this is one of my all time favs! I love the charachters, Betsy and Godwin, especially! I really enjoy the description of the shop, and when the author gives the name and pattern of what the charachters are stitching - I love to look them up and see!

Blaze (or Love in the Time of Supervillains) As for the sext that goes on in this book. In todays world this has been everywhere! And most places Facebook included have taken measures to stop it. From laws being passed that makes illegal to not only take but to post naked pictures of underage people to schools having kids expelled and banned from their school for bullying other students.

Breach of Trust In this psychological novel, we experience the pain and loss that Kolarich feels. Without a proper plan, he attempts to ingratiate himself to the politicians and friends of Almundo. However, his actions are caught by the FBI who are investigating corruption from the governor's office down to the local level. Since Kolarich can't prove that he was innocently pretending to work for these officials, he agrees to go undercover and help the FBI with the case.

Dare You To If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Muck City: Winning and Losing in Football's Forgotten Mealer impressed me by going into deep detail about the history of the town itself from racial tensions, to its status as a Big Sugar empire now departed, to the present day struggles with crime and poverty, that touch not just every player on the team, but the entire town. This helps illustrate why football is so important.

Pastoralia The first story in this book, the title story, grabbed me immediately. I laughed aloud, delighted at the inventiveness of Saunders' depiction of the corporate culture, as seen through the eyes of a poor working stiff in the pre-historic-land exhibit of a theme park. And really, be it a cubicle or a cave, corporate jargon or grunts and gestures, the author

reinforces a universal truth: we are a flawed species, and when pressed, we default to some very strange, very typical behavior.

Peril in Paperback Brooklyn Wainwright and her neighbors, Vinnie and Suzie, are on their way to spend a relaxing week with Suzie's Aunt Grace at her Lake Tahoe extravagant home. Rock My World Loved reading Rock my world by Sharisse Coulter. Couldnt put the novel down once i started reading it and read it in two days. Fell in love with the characters and really felt like i was in the novel and knew these people first hand. I totally recommend this novel its easy to read and within the first two chapters you get hooked and cant put it down.

Shattered Circle It seems like every character in the series is drowning in problems individually as well as other issues as a group. Persephone is busy fighting off those out to kill her while trying to live up to the position of Lustrata. Johnny now has another person to protect on top of his new duties as Dom Lup, and oh yeah how does he tell Persephone? Menessos is busy with all the duties that stepping down as leader to his vampires brings. Beverly finds something she shouldn't mess with and goes missing for a bit. A lot is revealed that brings her even closer to the supernatural and piles on the difficulties she was already facing. Creepy is back, wow I wasn't expecting that.

Small Memories

Famed novelist Jose Saramago, in one of his last works, takes us on a dreamy, rambling trip through his memories of childhood and adolescence. He grew up in a small village, but lived for many years in Lisbon as well. He shares with us the rustic atmosphere of his birthplace, his wise but unlettered grandparents, his child's understanding of history, his introduction to letters, his discovery of girls, and much much else. Some of his memories are tinged with pride, others with eternal embarrassment, shame and guilt. On occasion he treats the reader to a tiny glimpse of his creative process how some incident or other became the nexus for one of his great novels.

Stalkers It was that easy. They would do all the hard work." Detective Sergeant Mark 'Heck' Heckenberg is investigating the disappearance of 38 different women. Each one was happy and successful until they vanished without a trace. Desperate to find her missing sister, Lauren Wraxford seeks out Heck's help. Together they enter a seedy underworld of gangsters and organised crime. But when they hear rumours about the so-called 'Nice Guys Club' they hit a brick wall. They're the gang that no one will talk about. Because the Nice Guys can arrange anything you want.

Stick Dog Great story with lots of laughs and a ton of charm. I'd recommend for any new reader. Lots of fun to read.

The Ambassador's Daughter I gravitated towards this book because it takes place during the peace conferences in Paris after World War I and thought there would be some intriguing political commentary about reparations. Told from the perspective of a delegate's daughter, Margot is not directly involved in any of the political goings-on, but gets second-hand information from her father.

The Cloud That is merely the beginning of another of Idle's investigative adventures. For a medical journalist and blogger, he does seem to become embroiled in some dark stuff. This story involves a technology designed to help kids learn to multi-task that may be causing a far more serious side effect. And yet, as intense of the plots of these novels are, at their heart they are character-driven, and none more so than this latest installment. Character absolutely drives plot, but in this case, prior knowledge of the character from his debut in Hooked or Devil's Plaything would be helpful.

The Eldritch Conspiracy

Why you should read it: This series is why I love the urban fantasy genre. A heroine who kicks butt and takes names, and is fighting against/with her nature, depending on the day. Cat Adams is an awesome author, and I've loved every installment of the Blood Singers. If you're looking for action, violence and spicy romance, check out Celia Graves, part-vampire, part-siren, who hunts for a living.

The Gods of Gotham The potato famine in Ireland brings thousands of emigrants to New York. Soon, embers begin to simmer between the Democrats who want the Irish vote and the Whigs who are often people who don't get their hands dirty. They live to see their fortunes grow. They increase tariffs and would like to deport the Irish to Canada.

The Hidden Man After Audrey Cutler is snatched from her bedroom in the middle of the night, the lives of her seven-year-old brother, Sammy, and his best friend, Jason Kolarich, are forever scarred by the tragedy. Griffin Perlini, a known sex offender who lives nearby, is suspected of the crime, but the case is never solved and Perlini goes free. After Audrey's disappearance, Sammy's already dreadful home situation turns from bad to worse.

The Last Girlfriend on Earth: And Other Love Stories I've been a fan for a long time, and this is Rich's best work yet. Knowing that a number of his stories published in the New Yorker would end up in this volume, I went in slightly concerned that I may have already read most of the good stuff. But then I read "Dog Missed Connections" and my fears instantly vanished in a fit of too-loud laughter. Do yourself a favor and get this book.

The Long Way Home: The Chesapeake Diaries Once again Mariah Stewart takes us into the beautiful world of "Happily Ever After". In these times of so much violence, strife and hatred in the world, Mariah offers us a welcome respite into this beautiful place, St. Dennis, MD, and the lives of two beautiful, strong characters who show us that "love can conquer all". Thank you, Mariah once again for your hard work in giving so many hours of entertainment and pleasure to your fans. You never let us down.

The Taming of a Wild Child Waking up in a stranger's bed is not how socialite Lorelei LaBlanc planned on spending the morning after the night before.

The Temptation of Your Touch Anne Spencer, housekeeper of Cadgwyck Manor, has a good reason to chase out this new master. Before Max arrived, she had already prepared her bevy of servants to displease him, all the while using the ghost legend to drive him out. After all, the previous owners have either fled in horror or met untimely deaths, so how hard could this one be?

The Wrong Man The story starts with the death of a paralegal on her way home and evolves into a terrorist threat. Jason Kolarich becomes the attorney for an Iraqi veteran who has been accused of the crime and he does not communicate well with anyone since he suffers from flashbacks to his experiences in Iraq. As Kolarich and his team search for a possible defense and have motion after motion denied by a strict judge they begin to wonder if there was something in the paralegal's past that may have led to the shooting, not the robbery that the veteran is accused of in what appears to be an open and shut case for the prosecution. As the team works they begin to see that there is more to the case then first meets the eye. The book is full of twists and turns right up to the end and is a very good read.

The Zombie Whisperer

I originally was introduced to Jesse Petersens Living with the Dead series when I was staying in the Philippines. I was standing in National Bookstore and just happened to notice the word zombie on a book cover. Like almost every other thing I see that has zombie on it I am instantly drawn to investigate.

Third Shift - Pact There are five stars up there, for all kinds of great reasons. Once again, I was captivated by Hugh's storytelling. I love that I can see, hear, and feel the environments described, and the thoughts and feelings of the characters. There's no mistaking Jimmy's fear, confusion, and loneliness. Donald's pain and anger is crystal clear. A few more details of the planned future of the Silos are revealed. Discussion of pre-Silo events seems to be done - this book moves the story forward by a lot of years.

Three Tales from the World of Cotton Malone: The Balkan Escape, The Devil's Gold, and The Admiral's Mark (Short Stories) I LOVE anything that Steve Berry writes! He is on par with James Rollins and others of this genre. I highly recommend this read!

What Came After Our hero, and he is a hero, is Henry Weller. Not a fortunate man or of fortunate birth, he is nonetheless a curious and intelligent man who has become something of a wizard at mechanics out amongst the ruins of the industrial world. Broken things abound and he is the one that can fix them. The Empowerment Zone, which is just a nice way of saying anyplace the rich aren't, where he lives with his small family isn't much, but it is home.

When She Said I Do Callie and her mother, father and brother are stranded in Cotswold when their carriage almost goes underwater in a storm. Seeking shelter, they enter a large manor thinking no one is home. Callie is a naturally curious person and when she finds a jewelry box full of necklaces and bracelets she tries them on not knowing the owner of the manor has found her.

Zombie, Illinois Zombie, Illinois has all the things you want from a zombie story: well-drawn characters working their way out of tight situations, people killing zombies in innovative ways, and gory deaths meted out to the unjust. Where it surprised me

was the extent to which the setting mattered. This book is basically a big bloody love letter to the city of Chicago. Kenemore has taken the time to really think about which institutions and communities are best equipped to survive a zombie outbreak beyond the genre staples of military bases and boarded-up farmhouses.

Dead Water The Procurator Fiscal, Rhona Laing, lives at Aith, on the west coast of Shetland Mainland. She's a keen sailor, with her own impressive yacht, and she also rows in the women veterans' team at the local rowing club. Standing at her window with her morning cup of decaffeinated Earl Grey, she is surprised to see the team's voal (a traditional 6-man Shetland rowing boat) drifting offshore from the Aith Marina. She hurries down to the marina, hastily untethers her yacht's dinghy, sets off to recover the voal - and is horrified to find a body stretched out across the three transverse seats.

Death, Taxes, and a Skinny No-Whip Latte Diane Kelly creates characters that jump off the page. I have rarely laughed so hard as I read the Death and Taxes books. The situations Tara finds herself in are realistic and her response to them strictly "Tara-fiying". Tara Holloway is smart, funny and deadly enough to make the bad guys cringe even though she can't keep from getting herself into all kinds of trouble as she pursues big, bad bullies who don't pay their taxes. We root for Tara because she just might catch enough of those criminals to wipe out the national debt.

Death, Taxes, and Extra-Hold Hairspray I love all of the Tara Holloway books. She is an incredible resourceful agent for the IRS who gets herself in very interesting situations. The perfect amount of suspense and romance makes these a very entertaining read!

Death, Taxes, and Peach Sangria Another home run for this author with the latest entry in the Tara Holloway series. Tara is the very best of heroinessmart, funny, good with a gun, and as confused about men as the rest of us. Once again, if you can make the IRS look like fun, you are a very talented writer. This book is quick moving and there is a lot of action as Tara and her friends at the IRS chase down the bad guys and when they do, some sort of mayham ensues. The secondary characters in this book add humor and warmth are all the type of people I would like to have as friends and family.

Death, Taxes, and a French Manicure

It was refreshing to read this light-hearted and entertaining story about an IRS investigator, especially since smiles aren't often found on the same page as the Treasury Department. Tara reminded me a bit of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum (but much better with guns) and this book had a healthy mix of romance, humor and a sometimesdangerous money trail. The book is very well written and what one would expect from a Golden Heart winner.

Don't Want to Miss a Thing Firstly I'd like to thank Helena from Headline Publishing Group for sending me this novel to read and give an honest review. Obviously I have heard of Jill Mansell and seen her books in the shops but I've never actually read one (I'm hanging my head in shame now), this meant that I wasn't sure what to expect from it. Now I've finished I have just one question - why have I not read any of her books before? It really was my kind of book, it felt so natural and comfortable to read and right from the very first page I slipped easily into the storyline and quickly connected to the characters. This is actually a difficult review for me to write because I enjoyed it so much and I want to do the book justice.

Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson The literature on the Ripper killings is also complex and lengthy. Numerous individuals have been nominated for the role and reasons for the abrupt end to the killings are also legion. Among the Sherlockian offerings, the number of ripper suspects approaches seventy five with almost as many explanations offered for the end to the killings. Although the Sherlockian works are often interesting, they offer little in the way of solid evidence from history for their resolutions of the questions left by the events. The true Ripper Literature tends toward the `Police Procedural' school and is often merely gross, with little entertainment value except to sensationalists.

File M for Murder He then learns that her old boyfriend, Connor Lawton, a playwright, is also at the college as a writer-in-residence, working on his new play and helped her get the job. Charlie in not at all impressed with the man who is just plain rude. Connor is also followed to Athena by an old girlfriend who believes she is the only woman good enough for Connor. Before the sharp tongued writer can finish his play he is murdered and Charlie's daughter becomes the prime suspect. Charlie and Diesel are on the case. He soon finds many other viable suspects but can he find the real killer before any of his family or friends end up filed under M for murder.

Fire Country The characters are great. I love that Siena is so young. You can total see all of her 15 years in the way she talks and acts, how she carries herself, and how she feels around her peers. Because, while the landscape is very different from what we know now, the way teens act towards and with each other is so relatable. I loved Siena right away. Especially the way she spoke in her slang speak throughout the book. And she's a bit of a rebel right from the get go, which makes me understand her plight and feelings so much more. Even more intriguing is her willingness to come to terms with her feelings for a boy, a boy who she has no right to have feelings for because she's a bearer and will be placed with someone with whom she'll bear children, rather than having the choice.

Flock Kat is just such a determined girl. She does not give up, which is so admirable. Even if she doesn't always follow the rules. Plus she has this cute little snarky streak in her that I really found amusing. And Jack made me smile again! He showed me why I loved him so much in the first book. That in itself made me super happy.

Free Fall On a high-risk rescue deep in the African jungle, Jose encounters sexy, smart Interpol agent Stella Carson. They'd once had an affair that burned hot and fast, but family is everything to Stella, and Jose just can't go there.

Kill My Darling

In Kill My Darling, she presents a tale that, I must confess, I did not see through. Oh, the clues were there. And, sure, I've guessed the murderer a few times in her books, but even so, she is such a good writer that it made no difference to me that I knew. I just reveled in every fun, witty, heartfelt, moving, analytical, emotional, intuitive, riveting paragraph, happy to see how those in "the Job" worked it all out.

Let It Sew I don't say this very often, but I encourage readers to read the Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries in order. Generally most cozy mystery series should be read in order, but it is quite okay to read them out of order. However, I really think the reader takes away more from this series if they are read in order. Why? Because each book builds on the previous, the characters develop and grow, making the anticipated enjoyment of the next one as fine as a warm cup of tea and a comfortable blanket on a cold day.

Life Before Legend: Stories of the Criminal and the Prodigy Does not provide crucial in pout or insight in to the legions trilogy but was very well written and a short read. I wish that we're a little more about June. That's my only complaint. I really liked how it showed us kind of what started days little personal rebellion. I would have loved to see a story about how he met tess!

Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life

This is a great book. If you loved Roald Dahl's "marvelous" and "delightful" way of telling stories, this is a must read. The stories in here are more grownup but if you still have an itching for Roald-Dahl-ite irony, then these stories are good.

Little Cafe Cakes Published: 2003-11-25 | ISBN: 0141004142 | PDF | 24 pages | 12 MB Little cakes are a new trend in cafes and restaurants. Rather than the big muffin or slice of cake, the little cake is growing in popularity. They are quick and easy to prepare, are much more attractive then muffins and can be further enhanced by decorating with simple icings and syrups. Enticing and charming, the versatility of the little cake means it can double as the perfect dessert. It's not surprising that smart little cakes are featuring on cafe menus all around the world.

Hemingway's Boat: Everything He Loved in Life, and Lost, 1934-1961 2011 | ISBN: 1400041627 | 544 pages | EPUB, MOBI, PDF | 6 MB From a National Book Critics Circle Award winner, a brilliantly conceived and illuminating reconsideration of a key period in the life of Ernest Hemingway that will forever change the way he is perceived and understood.

Focusing on the years 1934 to 1961—from Hemingway’s pinnacle as the reigning monarch of American letters until his suicide—Paul Hendrickson traces the writer’s exultations and despair around the one constant in his life during this time: his beloved boat, Pilar. We follow him from Key West to Paris, to New York, Africa, Cuba, and finally Idaho, as he wrestles with his best angels and worst demons. Whenever he could, he returned to his beloved fishing cruiser, to exult in the sea, to fight the biggest fish he could find, to drink, to entertain celebrities and friends and seduce women, to be with his children. But as he began to succumb to the diseases of fame, we see that Pilar was also where he cursed his critics, saw marriages and friendships dissolve, and tried, in vain, to escape his increasingly diminished capacities. Generally thought of as a great writer and an unappealing human being, Hemingway emerges here in a far more benevolent light. Drawing on previously unpublished material, including interviews with Hemingway’s sons, Hendrickson shows that for all the writer’s boorishness, depression, and alcoholism, and despite his choleric anger, he was capable of remarkable generosity—to struggling writers, to lost souls, to the dying son of a friend. We see most poignantly his relationship with his youngest son, Gigi, a doctor who lived his adult life mostly as a crossdresser, and died squalidly and alone in a Miami women’s jail. He was the son Hemingway forsook the least, yet the one who disappointed him the most, as Gigi acted out for nearly his whole life so many of the tortured, ambiguous tensions his father felt. Hendrickson’s bold and beautiful book strikingly makes the case that both men were braver than we know, struggling all their lives against the complicated, powerful emotions swirling around them. As Hendrickson writes, “Amid so much ruin, still the beauty.” Hemingway’s Boat is both stunningly original and deeply gripping, an invaluable contribution to our understanding of this great American writer, published fifty years after his death.

Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy 2011 | ISBN-10: 0307959759 | 208 pages | EPUB, MOBI | 9 MB President Bill Clinton gives us his views on the challenges facing the United States today and why government matters—presenting his ideas on restoring economic growth, job creation, financial responsibility, resolving the mortgage crisis, and pursuing a strategy to get us "back in the future business.” He explains how we got into the current economic crisis, and offers specific recommendations on how we can put people back to work, increase bank lending and corporate investment, double our exports, restore our manufacturing base, and create new businesses. He supports President Obama’s emphasis on green technology, saying that changing the way we produce and consume energy is the strategy most likely to spark a fast-growing economy while enhancing our national security. Clinton also stresses that we need a strong private sector and a smart government working together to restore prosperity and progress, demonstrating that whenever we’ve given in to the temptation to blame government for all our problems, we’ve lost our ability to produce sustained economic growth and shared prosperity. Clinton writes, “There is simply no evidence that we can succeed in the twenty-first century with an antigovernment strategy,” based on “a philosophy grounded in ‘you’re on your own’ rather than ‘we’re all in this together.’ ” He believes that conflict between government and the private sector has proved to be good politics but has produced bad policies, giving us a weak economy with not enough jobs, growing income inequality and poverty, and a decline in our

competitive position. In the real world, cooperation works much better than conflict, and “Americans need victories in real life.”

Paul and Me: Fifty-three Years of Adventures and Misadventures with My Pal Paul Newman ISBN: 0385532334 | 2010 | EPUB | 234 pages | 8 MB Bestselling author A. E. Hotchner's intimate account of his 53-year friendship with his pal Paul Newman. A. E. Hotchner first met Paul Newman in 1955 when the virtually unknown actor assumed the lead role in Hotchner’s first television play, based on an Ernest Hemingway story. The project elevated both men from relative obscurity to recognition and began a close and trusted friendship that lasted until Newman’s death in 2008. In Paul and Me, Hotchner depicts a complicated, unpredictable, fun-loving, talented man, and takes the reader along on their adventures. The pair traveled extensively, skippered a succession of bizarre boats, confounded the business world, scored triumphs on the stage, and sustained their friendship through good times and bad. Most notably, they started Newman’s Own as a prank and watched it morph into a major enterprise that so far has donated all its $300 million in profit to charities including the Hole in the Wall Camps worldwide, dedicated to helping thousands of children with life-threatening illnesses. Paul and Me, complete with personal photographs, is the story of a freewheeling friendship and a tribute to the acclaimed actor who gave to the world as much as the world gave him.

Viper Pilot: A Memoir of Air Combat ISBN: 0062130358 | 2012 | EPUB | 336 pages | 2 MB 151 combat missions 21 hard kills on surface-to-air-missile sites 4 Distinguished Flying Crosses with Valor 1 Purple Heart Sure to rank as one of the greatest aviation memoirs ever written, Viper Pilot is an Air Force legend's thrilling eyewitness account of modern air warfare From 1986 to 2006, Lt. Col. Dan Hampton was a leading member of the Wild Weasels, the elite Air Force fighter squadrons whose mission is recognized as the most dangerous job in modern air combat. Weasels are the first planes sent into a war zone, flying deep behind enemy lines purposely seeking to draw fire from surface-to-air missiles and artillery. They must skillfully evade being shot down—and then return to destroy the threats, thereby making the skies safe for everyone else to follow. Today these vital missions are more hazardous than direct air-to-air engagement with enemy aircraft. Hampton's record number of strikes on high-value targets make him the most lethal F-16 Wild Weasel pilot in American history. This is his remarkable story. Taught to fly at an early age by his father, Hampton logged twenty years and 608 combat hours in the world's most iconic fighter jet: the F-16 "Fighting Falcon," or "Viper" as its pilots call it. Hampton spearheaded the 2003 invasion of Iraq, leading the first flight of fighters over the border en route to strike Baghdad. In the war that followed, he engaged in a series of brilliantly executed missions that earned him three Distinguished Flying Crosses with Valor; he notably saved a U.S. Marine unit from certain death by taking out the surrounding enemy forces near Nasiriyah. Two years earlier, on 9/11, Hampton's father was inside the Pentagon when it was attacked; with his dad's fate unknown, Hampton was scrambled into American skies and given the unprecedented orders to shoot down any unidentified aircraft. Hampton also flew critical missions in the first Gulf War, served on the Air Combat Command staff during the Kosovo War, and was injured in the 1996 Khobar Towers terrorist attack. With manned missions rapidly giving way to remote-controlled UAV drones, Viper Pilot may be the last memoir by a true hero of the skies. Gripping and irreverently humorous, it is an unforgettable look into the closed world of fighter pilots and modern air combat.

Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents ISBN: 0345515617 | 2010 | EPUB | 256 pages | 2 MB What do we wish most for our children? Next to being healthy, we want them to be happy, of course! Fortunately, a wide array of scientific studies show that happiness is a learned behavior, a muscle we can help our children build and maintain. Drawing on what psychology, sociology, and neuroscience have proven about confidence, gratefulness, and optimism, and using her own chaotic and often hilarious real-world adventures as a mom to demonstrate do’s and don’ts in action, Christine Carter, Ph.D, executive director of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, boils the process down to 10 simple happiness-inducing steps. With great wit, wisdom, and compassion, Carter covers the day-to-day pressure points of parenting—how best to discipline, get kids to school and activities on time, and get dinner on the table—as well as the more elusive issues of helping children build healthy friendships and develop emotional intelligence. In these 10 key steps, she helps you interact confidently and consistently with your kids to foster the skills, habits, and mindsets that will set the stage for positive emotions now and into their adolescence and beyond. Inside you will discover • the best way avoid raising a brat—changing bad habits into good ones • tips on how to change your kids’ attitude into gratitude • the trap of trying to be perfect—and how to stay clear of its pitfalls • the right way to praise kids—and why too much of the wrong kind can be just as bad as not enough • the spirit of kindness—how to raise kind, compassionate, and loving children • strategies for inspiring kids to do boring (but necessary) tasks—and become more self-motivated in the process Complete with a series of “try this” tips, secrets, and strategies, Raising Happiness is a one-of-a-kind resource that will help you instill joy in your kids—and, in the process, become more joyful yourself.

Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them ISBN: 0060777052 | 2007 | EPUB | 320 pages | 270 KB Long before there were creative-writing workshops and degrees, how did aspiring writers learn to write? By reading the work of their predecessors and contemporaries, says Francine Prose. In Reading Like a Writer, Prose invites you to sit by her side and take a guided tour of the tools and the tricks of the masters. She reads the work of the very best writers—Dostoyevsky, Flaubert, Kafka, Austen, Dickens, Woolf, Chekhov—and discovers why their work has endured. She takes pleasure in the long and magnificent sentences of Philip Roth and the breathtaking paragraphs of Isaac Babel; she is deeply moved by the brilliant characterization in George Eliot's Middlemarch. She looks to John Le Carre for a lesson in how to advance plot through dialogue, to Flannery O'Connor for the cunning use of the telling detail, and to James Joyce and Katherine Mansfield for clever examples of how to employ gesture to create character. She cautions readers to slow down and pay attention to words, the raw material out of which literature is crafted. Written with passion, humor, and wisdom, Reading Like a Writer will inspire readers to return to literature with a fresh eye and an eager heart.

If Rome Hadn't Fallen: How the Survival of Rome Might Have Changed World History

ISBN: 1848844298 | 2011 | EPUB | 224 pages | 626 KB This is a fascinating exploration of how the history of Europe, and indeed the world, might have been different if the Western Roman Empire had survived the crises that pulled it apart in the 4th and 5th centuries. Dr. Timothy Venning starts by showing how that survival and recovery might plausibly have happened if several relatively minor things had been different. He then moves on to discuss a series of scenarios which might have altered the course of subsequent history dramatically. Would the survival of a strong Western Empire have assisted the Eastern (Byzantine) Empire in halting the expansion of Islam in the Middle East and North Africa? How would the Western Roman Empire have handled the Viking threat? Could they even have exploited the Viking discovery of America and established successful colonies there? While necessarily speculative, all the scenarios are discussed within the framework of a deep understanding of the major driving forces, tensions and trends that shaped European history and help to shed light upon them. In so doing they help the reader to understand why things panned out as they did, as well as what might have been.

Parenting Your Child with ADHD: A No-Nonsense Guide for Nurturing Self-Reliance and Cooperation ISBN: 1608823962 | 2012 | EPUB | 200 pages | 2 MB It is now possible for concerned parents to treat their child’s attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) without medication. This book shows them how. Written by a supervising psychologist who specializes in child behavioral issues, Parenting Your Child with ADHD presents a groundbreaking program for parents seeking to reduce their child’s inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity and strengthen his or her capacity for self-reliance and cooperation. This unique program promotes positive ways of interrelating and shows parents the five main ways they may have unwittingly reinforced ADHD symptoms in the past. Far from encouraging parents to strictly manage ADHD children, this approach promotes independence in kids so that less discipline and surveillance is necessary. Specifically, this book helps parents promote cooperation by phrasing their requests in specific ways, reduce pressure on their child, and acknowledge the child’s preference as a way to make cooperation a more attractive choice to him or her. Parents learn to resolve problems related to messiness, inappropriate silliness and intrusiveness, chores and helping family members, coordinating schedules, sneaking and stealing, noise and yelling, and overreacting. The second part of the book moves on to issues that take place outside the home, such as shopping excursions, family outings, and travel. Finally, parents learn ways to increase their child’s independence and cooperation with schoolwork and compliance in the classroom environment. The child learns the value of being knowledgeable without the motivation of punishment or gift rewards.

The Uncensored Bible: The Bawdy and Naughty Bits of the Good Book English | ISBN: 0061238856 | 2009 | EPUB | 224 pages | 968 KB We all know the story of how Eve was created from Adam's rib. But what if, perhaps, "rib" was a mistranslation and the body part she was really created from was Adam's penis bone? This would explain why human males don't have such a bone, unlike other male mammals. That's only one of many surprising and fun biblical twists readers will encounter in The Uncensored Bible. Here readers will learn that King David swore like a sailor, mandrakes were the

biblical equivalent of Viagra ®, Cain was depressed, and Joseph's "coat of many colors" might have actually been a dress (which may explain why his brothers picked on him). Authors Kaltner, McKenzie, and Kilpatrick bring some of the most outrageous speculations about the scriptures to light—all based on legitimate scholarship—revealing a stranger, bawdier side of the Good Book. The Uncensored Bible is a shocking, hilarious, and thought-provoking collection of the most recent, compelling, and racy interpretations of the Bible from the newest voices of Bible scholarship.

Better Single Than Sorry: A No-Regrets Guide to Loving Yourself and Never Settling English | 2007 | ISBN-10: 0061228079 | PDF | 288 pages | 4 MB Let's be honest. No woman really wants to be alone for the rest of her life. But does being alone mean you're doomed to be miserable forever? Definitely not! And does being single have to equal lonely? No way! You can have the best time of your life when you're single, but you wouldn't know that from our relationship obsessed society, where celebrity magazines devote the majority of their content to who's dating whom and the wedding industry is a $100-billion business. Yet more than a third of marriages end in divorce, and countless other couples languish in unions that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Don't become a statistic—love yourself and never settle! Jen Schefft knows that better than almost anyone. In 2003, she got engaged in front of millions of people on television's The Bachelor, only to see it end nine months later when the relationship just wasn't right anymore. A year later, she turned down an engagement on The Bachelorette, and the backlash was relentless. She was labeled a "spinster" by a celebrity magazine, and a noted national talk-show host remarked that she would be "a bachelorette for the rest of her life." This is a terrible message to send to the millions of sensational single women out there, and in Better Single Than Sorry Schefft makes it her mission to let women know that it's better to be single than to be in a relationship that doesn't make you happy. With testimonials from women of all ages—single, married, in committed relationships, with children (even single moms) and without—this book tells you how to let go of your fear of being alone and how to love yourself and never settle for a relationship that is anything less than you deserve. Written in a conversational style, as if talking with your best friend, Schefft helps you navigate the pressures of a culture that places an unhealthy importance on being in a relationship and shows you how to find happiness in work, home, and the simple pleasures of everyday life. Above all, she shows you how it's far, far better to be single than sorry. Being single is a time to have fun, learn new things, grow, and blossom—not a time to feel desperate or depressed, so cherish it!

Iranian Rappers and Persian Porn: A Hitchhiker's Adventures in the New Iran English | ISBN: 1602397910 | 2009 | EPUB | 288 pages | 375 KB A backpacker’s charming, hilarious account of the secret world of counterculture Iran. Iran looms large in the psyche of modern America. For decades, it has been “the enemy,” its government taunting us

and attacking our Western, secular lifestyle. That is largely the Iranian government, however, not the Iranian people. Here’s the proof. When Jamie Maslin decides to backpack the entire length of the Silk Road, he decides to travel first and plan later. Then, unexpectedly stranded in a country he’s only read about in newspapers, he decides to make the best of it—but wonders whether he’ll make it out alive. Maslin finds himself suddenly plunged into a subversive, contradictory world of Iranian subculture, where he is embraced by locals who are more than happy to show him the true Iran as they see it—the one where unmarried men and women mingle in Western clothes at secret parties, where alcohol (the possession of which is punishable by hand-amputation) is readily available on the black market, where Christian churches are national heritage sites, and where he discovers the real meaning of friendship, nationality, and hospitality. This is a hilarious, charming, and astonishing account of one Westerner’s life-altering rambles across Iran that will leave you wondering what else you don’t know about Iran and its people. 24 color illustrations

Running with the Kenyans: Passion, Adventure, and the Secrets of the Fastest People on Earth ISBN: 0345528794 | 2012 | EPUB | 288 pages | 6 MB “A dusty road stretches into the distance like a pencil line across the arid landscape. Lions, rhino, and buffalo roam the plains on either side. But I haven’t come to Kenya to spot wildlife. I’ve come to run.” Whether running is your recreation, your religion, or just a spectator sport, Adharanand Finn’s incredible journey to the elite training camps of Kenya will captivate and inspire you. Part travelogue, part memoir, this mesmerizing quest to uncover the secrets of the world’s greatest runners—and put them to the test—combines practical advice, a fresh look at barefoot running, and hard-won spiritual insights. As a boy growing up in the English countryside, Adharanand Finn was a natural runner. While other kids struggled, he breezed through schoolyard races, imagining he was one of his heroes: the Kenyan long-distance runners exploding into prominence as Olympic and world champions. But as he grew up, pursued a career in journalism, married and had children, those childhood dreams slipped away—until suddenly, in his mid-thirties, Finn realized he might have only one chance left to see how far his talents could take him. Uprooting his family of five, including three small children, Finn traveled to Iten, a small, chaotic town in the Rift Valley province of Kenya—a mecca for long-distance runners thanks to its high altitude, endless running paths, and some of the top training schools in the world. Finn would run side by side with Olympic champions, young hopefuls, and barefoot schoolchildren . . . not to mention the exotic—and sometimes dangerous—wildlife for which Kenya is famous. Here, too, he would meet a cast of colorful characters, including his unflappable guide, Godfrey Kiprotich, a former half marathon champion; Christopher Cheboiboch, one of the fastest men ever to run the New York City Marathon; and Japhet, a poor, bucktoothed boy with unsuspected reservoirs of courage and raw speed. Amid the daily challenges of training and of raising a family abroad, Finn would learn invaluable lessons about running—and about life. Running with the Kenyans is more than one man’s pursuit of a lifelong dream. It’s a fascinating portrait of a magical country—and an extraordinary people seemingly born to run.

Bubby's Homemade Pies English | ISBN: 0764576348 | edition 2007 | EPUB | 384 pages | 5.7 MB Bubby's, in New York City, known for its comfort food, began simply in 1990 with pie. Owner Silver, who was trying to find a way to support his writing habit, started a wholesale pie business (which later morphed into two restaurants). This publication celebrates the once-humble dessert that helped launch the popular TriBeCa and (later) Brooklyn outposts. Silver and coauthor Bervin strike a balance with recipes that are doable for the new baker and dynamic enough for the experienced pie maker. A primer on crusts covers flaky, sweet crumb and savory, and is accompanied by how-to illustrations. The authors also prime readers on fruit pies before launching into chapters including cream and custard pies and savory pies. In addition, seasonal pie chapters and recipes for deep-dish desserts (such as buckles, crisps and cobblers), dumplings and sauces fill the collection. The majority of pies are classics such as Blackberry Pie and Coconut Custard, but the inventive (Fried Apple-Whiskey Pies and Paella Pie) also have a presence. Ask Bubby highlighted boxes offer solutions for common preparation problems, while concise, well-written headnotes provide useful information and inspiration. This carefully compiled text addresses all experience levels as well as classic and contemporary pies, giving it a broad appeal.
