After America Without Warning pleasantly surprised me, even though the technical explanation is not very clear. What really matters in this book is the affect of America's disappearance on the rest of the world. What would happen if the USA was not around to police the earth and what happens to the its surviving government? The characters do a lot of things that may seem trivial or unnecessary, but I think that makes it more realistic because these people have to learn from their mistakes. And most importantly, the surviving people still let politics and petty issues influence their thinking instead of using their common sense to solve basic problems.
Don't Say a Word Don't Say A Word is one of the best books I've read all year. It had just the right amount of romance and suspense. Sometimes in romantic suspense, I feel like the mystery takes over, but there was a nice balance in this book. I loved Julia and Alex. They were a great couple with lots of chemistry. The mystery kept me guessing and kept me turning the pages. Once I got started reading I couldn't put the book down. I highly recommend it!

Hitch-22: A Memoir
I could be way off base, and probably am, but I am glad that I had the opportunity to read and enjoy Mr. Hitchens' memoir. He's the kind of person that I would enjoy listening to as he held court over a table, with Spirits and words aflow. I am sure I could not agree with everything he said, and as an experienced debater, he would skewer anything I could have to say in return, and perhaps not always in the kindest manner. Even so, I'd gladly have, and later relish the experience.
Hugo and the Really, Really, Really Long String (Picture Book) This is exactly the kind of children's book I look for. The story is about a cute little hippo named Hugo and how he follows a mysterious piece of red string all across town, making new friends along the way. What initially caught my attention to this book was the cover illustrations. I have always loved good artwork and the characters Boyle has in this book are very well drawn and, simply, adorable. Cute story, nice message and great artwork.

If You're Reading This, It's Too Late (The Secret Series) The characters are well-developed, easy to relate to, and have a good sense of humor. Because of the short chapters and common footnotes, I see this as a great book for a reluctant reader. It is easy to pick up where you left off and it takes you down many paths at once, keeping you interested. The footnotes typically add a humorous aspect to an interesting mystery, allowing the reader to venture in a new direction before continuing on with the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It had a strong storyline with characters that took risks and maintained and created friendships.

John Dies at the End The bizarre thing about this book is that it is literally laugh-out-loud funny, but at the same time it's hide-under-the-bed scary. It is neither horror with comic relief nor comedy with a horror theme. It's both pure comedy and pure horror, two books coexisting in one, which should be impossible but somehow David Wong can pull it off. It kept me hooked right up to the end, for more reasons than just to find out how John dies.
Kill Zone: Book One in the War Games Series KILL ZONE entertains and dazzles, but after reading all four of the War Games series, I must confess I miss the Vicki Hinze military romantic suspense that first turned me into a loyal fan: SHADES OF GRAY, DUPLICITY, ACTS OF
HONOR and ALL DUE RESPECT. In those she combined superb story-telling skills with literary grace and sensitivity. I was mesmerized by her prose as much as I was with her riveting intrigue. And then she wrote, HER PERFECT LIFE, and I was reminded of how she can depict the life of the men and women in the forces with such spiritual understanding while upholding literary standards above and beyond rules of suspense. This is her forte, and though I enjoy the War Game series, I yearn for her to return to books that drew me to her in the first place.
Kiss Me Quick This book is set in England in 1964 during the Mods and Rocker riots on Brighton beach. A young detective named Vince Treadwell is sent down from London to Brighton, on the south coast, to solve a murder and catch an elusive gangster named Jack Regent. In the tangled web of the crime, that features drug rackets, pornography rackets, and the dark side of the 60's British music business, Vince Treadwell falls for Jack Regent's beautiful girlfriend and mayhem ensues. This is a fast paced and very well written thriller with a dangerous love story mixed in it. The writer has a great eye for period detail, and Vince Treadwell makes for a very good and believable hero. Highly recommended!

Love You Forever 'Love You Forever' is perhaps the most touching book I have ever read. The story is warm, humorous and quite moving. The illustrations are beautiful and add to the depth of the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Be warned that it will bring tears to your eyes and a lump to your throat as you read it for the first time. At other times it will make you roll over laughing...
Mass Casualties: A Young Medic's True Story of Death, Deception, and Dishonor in Iraq This is a fantastic book written about the Iraq war from a perspective that we don't often get to see - that of a medic's. If you're into reading about real war stories than you should read this book. "Mass Casualties: A Young Medic's True Story of Death, Deception, and Dishonor in Iraq" has tales of horror and expounds on the mental devices one would need to use to cope with them. It was a difficult read at times, but like the author did you just have to press on. This book is definitely a hidden gem and should be read by everyone who has any interest in the Iraq war.
Not That Kind of Girl The story wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be and it held my interest until the very last page, with interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. It's not the typical Chick Lit fare that I go for, which means funnier books like those by Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot and Laura Wolf, but it was still really good. If I could've rated it 4.5 stars, I would've but it wasn't quite a 5 star book so I had to give it 4.
Rage The action is fast paced and the author does a wonderful job of making me want to know what's next he accomplishes this by sending the main character from one setting to the next, one mystery and action sequence leading to another setting and set of characters to discover. Always a sign of an entertaining and good book for me is when I can't put it
down, and this has had me totally hooked after the protagonist wakes up from his Cryogenic sleep of 100 years from there it's buckle up and enjoy the ride. There are a couple of minor nitpicks I have about some of the characters and wished the author got more into the *science* of cryogenic hibernation and nanotrites but perhaps it was sacrificed for fast paced addictive narrative.
Rogue Island I read this book in three sittings over a weekend it was hard to put down. The plot is fast-paced, and the writing is sparse yet rich, and studded with laugh-out-loud lines. When a book is this easy to read, you know the writer worked hard. Bruce combines this discipline with an ability to entertain. He has the requisite anatomy _ an ear for dialog, an eye for detail, a head for street smarts and the heart of a softie. Plus insights into human nature that come from having seen more than a few slices of life.

Starlighter Starlighter is marketed to a teenage audience with good reason. While I thought it was a fun story and it kept me reading, the suspense was a bit short with tense situations quickly resolved. Additionally, the characters were not as well developed as I'd like, but they will most likely appeal to teenagers and be easy to relate to. Though most adults would probably enjoy it also, they would need to let some of the pacing and character development slide as well as forgive the light descriptions of settings and events. There is an allegorical element to this story, but it is easy to detect and not particularly deep. It is good, but not quite as elaborate as some other allegorical literature within this genre. It is a `clean' book with no objectionable language or situations. It is not scary nor is there excessive gore. With confidence parents can allow and encourage their kids to read it without fear of questionable content. For those who enjoy a good fantasy novel with a healthy dose of dragons, this is a good choice. It's not terribly original, but it is fun and easy to read. Since it is quite engaging, the 400 pages flew by and now I'll patiently wait for the next book in the series.
The Chamber of Ten It's a different slant on a paranormal type novel. An easy read, enjoyable ride but not going to win any awards. Slow to get going, the story picks up pace and becomes a race against time. In the time honored way rushing to a climatic ending. Don't expect great things of this book but enjoy it as an escape from reality.
The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Giant Rat of Sumatra This is one of the best Holmes pastiches that I have ever read. Along with David Stuart Davies' "The Scroll of the Dead", "The Veiled Detective" and Lyndsay Faye's "Dust and Shadow", this story really sounded like an Arthur Conan Doyle Holmes novel. Furthermore, in Holmes pastiches nowadays, Holmes is just a detective not really able to make any good deductions. This is not the case with "The Giant Rat of Sumatra." Holmes is given a number of brilliant deductions to make through the coarse of the book. The final part of this novel takes place on the moorlands similar to "The Hound of the Baskervilles." The suspense and tension in this part of the novel is brilliant, a real page-turner. And the climax of the story involving an old foe is truly wonderful. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan, and you want to learn what "the story for which the world is not yet prepared" is than read Richard L. Boyer's "The Giant Rat of Sumatra."
The Impostor "The Impostor" is a story set in modern South Africa, telling of Adam. Losing his job and his home, he tries to start anew in a beat down shack on the edge of town. An old childhood acquaintance soon appears, Canning, who has the exact opposite of Adam's luck. The ensuing story between the two will alter the course of both of their lives forever. "The Impostor" is a thoroughly entertaining story, a strong choice for personal fiction collections.

It depicts how easily it is for children to become involved in drugs and how difficult to maintain a drug free lifestyle.

The Queen: A Patrick Bowers Thriller The surprises at the end of the book made me sit for a long time and try to think if they made sense. Obviously I can't tell you what happens but if you're the thinking type you may be in for a brain spasm. To me there were no clues to whom the main villians were even though it was explained how they were figured out in the end. Was it a cheap shot by the author or was it really thought out? Read it for yourself and find out.
The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor With The Walking Dead achieving mammoth amounts of popularity thanks to the long running comic and the smash hit TV series adaptation, creator Robert Kirkman teams up with horror writer Jay Bonansinga to detail the backstory of The Governor, who may be one of the most evil villains to ever appear in the pages of a comic book ever. Just how did The Governor get to be how he was in the pages of The Walking Dead? Well, this novel The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor, picks up a few days into the zombie apocalypse, as estranged brothers Philip and Brian, along with Philip's young daughter Penny and a couple others, try to survive the perils of plague-stricken rural Georgia. Along the way they come across other survivors and hordes of undead, with some major shocking events taking place that set the stage for the birth of the cruel man who is way more dangerous than an onslaught of zombies could ever be. With some twists aplenty and a gut-punch of a final act, The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor is engaging and pageturning, but it doesn't do anything else than tell an origin story, and even at that, by the time the big twist at the end happens, it feels like a bit of a cheat. All that aside, Rise of the Governor is more than worth your time if you're a Walking Dead fanatic, and it is a nice companion piece to the prolific survival horror series.
This Book Is Not Good For You Readers. You are about to enter a journey of your lives. This book is not only funny but suspenseful. It will make you read and read! I recommend this book to everyone but mostly peoples that love adventure books and funny ones.

This Same Earth Things that I really liked about the book: I liked the characters both old and new and I still really love B, I liked that she is trying to make herself as strong as possible so that she can fight back - and I liked her training sessions with one of Carwyn's daughters. I also really liked the puzzle that B gets to solve and the fact that she is the only one who can solve it, and I liked the journal entries at the start and end of the story. But most of all, I liked the feeling that there isn't going to be one step forward two steps back in her relationship with Gio.
