Frozen Solid I found it hard to put down during the last half of the book. The writing is generally excellent, but I found a couple of loose ends in the plot details and the ending was not as good as I had hoped. I am a stickler for strong endings. (For instance, I don't usually like the way John Grisham writes his endings). Still... I do highly recommend Frozen Solid. It's a great adventure and I learned a lot about the pole and what it might be like to live there, plus enjoyed the mystery.

Fearless (Mirrorworld) There is a massive hook at the end of FEARLESS for the next book in the series. I'm excited to see what adventure Jacob and Fox will embark upon next. The Mirrorworld is a very interesting place and I love learning more about it as Jacob and Fox quest. These books aren't complex, but they are wonderful stories.

Eye of the Oracle (Oracles of Fire, Book 1) Volume one of the Oracles of Fire series, which in turn is a prequel to the Dragons in our Midst series, Eye of the Oracle is an epic fantasy novel about the tension between dragons and mankind, from the era just prior to Noah's ark through the time of King Arthur to the modern day. In Eye of the Oracle, dragons are targeted by the machinations of an ancient and ruthless evil force, and only the sacrifice of noble heroes prevented the dragons' complete extermination as a species. An enthralling saga of good against evil, and great deeds achieved by individuals of courageous and faithful spirit.

Enoch's Ghost (Oracles of Fire, Book 2) I stayed up till three in the morning finishing this book. It is very suspenceful, but also takes time to develop the characters, new and old. I really liked how Walter and Ashley's relashonship matured throughout the book. Walter and Gabe, finally meet, providing some good laughs, and Larry is hilarious as usual. Serious, and a few sad moments also appear. All the plots weave together flawlessly in the end, and many questions are answered. But of course more questions are raised.

Escape Theory ESCAPE THEORY definitely tugged on my heartstrings at times. It goes back and forth between the past and present. In the present, the mystery unfolds and in the past it's revealed just what happened between Hutch and Devon. It's

painful to learn more about what an awkward-but-charming kid he was and know that he dies young. But it helps illuminate Devon's motivation and why she can't just dismiss her concerns. I did like that Devon wasn't solely motivated by justice for Hutch. She really does try to help her peers even though she hasn't had much training.

Eye of Newt (A Short Story) This book certainly has a very large thought provoking meaning. Because it is a short story I don't want to say more about it other than I think it will touch every reader differently.

Death's Rival: A Jane Yellowrock Novel If you like excitement read this book. If you are already familiar with the Jane Yellowrock series you will not be disappointed.

Elimination Night Seeing the overflowing emotion of the young contestants on the real Idol, it's not hard to imagine the producers of the show wanting to ramp things up for ratings. These kids totally break down when they leave the audition and meet up again with their friends and family. To read a book that tells us how some of this emotion is achieved, makes me not ever watch the show again. And in fact, I wonder if this book will make the ratings go up or down for Idol. Probably up considering our insatiable appetite for watching other people's misery.

Dear Life, You Suck A great book for anyone who likes to have their redemption flavored by salty tears and served with an extra-large helping of filter-free smartass. The Bottom Line: Be ready for a rollercoaster of a story sometimes you'll be screaming with your hands in the air sometimes, you'll be cringing on the floor. Either way, it's a good ride.

Come and Find Me: A Novel of Suspense Ephron has written a book that provides an effective peek into the mind of a person suffering from fear, neurosis and PTSD and into the minds of computer criminals and sociopaths who find no limits to their willingness to destroy the lives and livelihood of others for profit. Enjoy!

Busted Flush (Wild Cards Novel) In this volume, which is a close sequel to "Inside Straight", a group of aces under U.N. auspices travels to three hotspots in the globe, where they learn how difficult it can be to solve problems, even with superpowers. The action takes a little while to build, but the story quickly builds to a breakneck pace and ultimately to a satisfying conclusion. For fans of the series, I have to recommend this one highly. I enjoyed this one more than any volume since "Black Trump" and look forward eagerly to the next book.

Blood Cross (Jane Yellowrock, Book 2) The author is a master of weaving and closing off threads, only to weave another. She offers her own vision as to why Vampires are so closely allied to Christian Icons and explains the myth fully in Blood Cross. She brings in new characters, and finishes others, and gives Jane a chance to grow into her own skin. To me, some of the most unique parts of the book occurs when Beast gets her chance to 'speak'. In the way Temple Grandin has explained how animals think more like an autistic, Beast thinks in action, smells, and the present. A very distinct voice to contrast against the very human voice of Jane.

Apollyon: The Fourth Covenant Novel This was a hard book to read, not only because it means there is only one more left until the whole series is over and we will have to say good bye but because we loose some people in this one. People I have grown to care about over the course of the series. It does make me nervous for what will happen in the last book. I don't want to have to say good bye to any more people that I love and I know that I will. I love how this one ended. It was a beautiful way to end it after what had just happened the chapter before. It makes me worry for Alex though. She has so much weighing on her. So much she is responsible for but I know if anyone can do it, she can and will.

Angelology I did find it strange, though, that in a book so filled with the trappings of religion there was no actual, well, spirituality, on the part of the characters. On the other hand, personal religion on the part of novel characters can be a delicate business, and it has ruined more than one otherwise fine book, so perhaps that's not really a flaw. The ending was a surprise to me, although I think that some readers might anticipate it.

A Cure for Night

I really enjoyed this book. At one point, just shy of the end (20 pages or so) I stopped reading one night, simply because I didn't want it to end. I then leisurely enjoyed the final twist the next day. The story is strong and the characters well flushed out. Joel's (the main character) self loathing and fear of himself and others is very endearing. Both sexes are well represented here and both read very true. Being an attorney, I know how boring law can be, BUT somehow Justin Peacock made it interesting again. This book is well worth the money, just buy sit back and enjoy!

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald This is the touching, engaging story of a time and the two individuals who defined it. Zelda Fitzgerald is, at long last, a real person with a heart and soul and mind of her own, detached from her more famous husband. This book has inspired me to learn more about this unique woman, in the hopes that it will, in turn, help me better understand the beauty of Fitzgerald's work and why I fell in love with "Gatsby" in the first place, all those years ago. Easily recommended.

With or Without You: A Memoir The book goes back and forth in time and some of the scenes seem awkward, as though they are not in the right place. A bit of editing should help that out. I read the book in two days and the second half riveted me. I congratulate the author for this very personal and poignant story of her life. Thank you Ms. Ruta for this book.

The Three Furies (Erec Rex) I love this book. All the other ones in the series are just as good.

The Search for Truth (Erec Rex) There was a moment of real vivid, gruesome detail that surprised me, because I didn't expect such descriptive violence in a children's book, but it revealed just how awful Baskania truly is. You can't help but wonder how people have missed this little detail and almost have to admire how charismatic and skilled he is at tricking people.

The Monsters of Otherness (Erec Rex) Trouble is brewing in quiet, pleasant Alypium, and only Erec Rex can make it better. All of the baby dragons have mysteriously disappeared, and King Piter has lost the trust of his people. Worse, the evil Stain brothers will become the new rulers of the Kingdom of the Keepers unless Erec returns to Alypium and challenges them. but if Erec becomes king, the power of the royal scepter could destroy him completely.

The Dragon's Eye (Erec Rex) Life is not easy for twelve-year-old Erec Rex. His single mother can barely support her six adopted kids. And they've moved into an apartment so tiny that Erec sleeps with the washing machine. Worse, there is a strange force within Erec that is making him do odd things. His urge to obey these thoughts grows until it becomes impossible to resist them.

The Laughterhouse: A Thriller This is a fast moving thriller, extremely well written, with a killer who only wants justice just as Tate does. There are also some interesting characters that move the story along. I especially liked the comradeship between Theo and Carl.

The Heresy of Dr Dee An excellent read - better even than the forerunner, The Bones of Avalon. Dee is a complex and sympathetic character, the Elizabethan world of thought is brought vividly to life and it's an extraordinarily well plotted crime story! I

read it twice in quick succession to be sure I had understood all the intricacies of the plot. I always enjoy well thought out hypotheses on historical events about which we will probably never know the truth...

The End of the World I consider this tale to have a strongly humane and humanitarian message. It is an absorbing, entertaining and thoughtprovoking story, and one I would very highly recommend to anyone who appreciates a surreal and unconventional approach to 'life, death and everything in between'.

The Cold Kiss Reminiscent of Scott Phillips or Scott Smith, John Rector's THE COLD KISS is everything a well-told work of noir should be. Engaging and thrilling while keeping the reader glued to the page, guessing what might happen next. THE COLD KISS excels at all this with a crisp, refreshing minimalist style and a complete lack of heavy-handedness from the author.

The Callsign: A Taskforce Story I was captured by the story and did not see the twist and turns coming. There are several plot lines running through the book and each one held my attention.

The American Boy I thoroughly enjoyed this book.It is my first book by the author and he did not disappoint me.Fast-paced and beautifully written, this historical fiction is almost true to life with amazing characters and a plot that sets the standards.Union Moujik, Gilead, The Usurper and Other Stories are some of the other books I recently enjoyed.

Sun at Midnight This is a great book with a sympathetic and intelligent main character. Though the first chapter didn't really fit with the rest of the book, in my opinion, the rest of the book flowed really smoothly and had page after page of absolutely beautiful imagery. While this is the first book I've read by this author, it certainly won't be the last.

Somewhere Inside: One Sister's Captivity in North Korea and the Other's Fight to Bring Her Home Chilling details of Laura Ling's time in North Korea. I enjoy reading and watching anything that gives me a look into this isolated world. Laura gets a chance, through telling her own story, to shed light on the desperate situation of the people of North Korea. The intention of her trip to the China-North Korea border region was to give a face and voice to the people fleeing their home-land everyday, and the horrors they often face afterwards.

Suicide Kings Suicide Kings is an excellent conclusion of this trilogy, though there is plenty of room for further books in the series. This story, however, comes to a definitive conclusion, with certain Aces coming to terms with where they are in life, other Aces dying in the heat of battle (one great thing about this series is that anybody can die at any time), and the main threat has been dealt with in some fashion. I am looking forward to seeing if anything else is done with these characters or this world, or whether the Wild Cards universe was just resurrected for this trilogy. This book is the best of the bunch.

Stung Fiona is strong, for being in the position she is in and comes out of this whole mess even stronger than what she went in to it as. She grows so much and honestly, I can't wait to see what's to come of her in the next book.

Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, Book 1) This is the first book in the Jane Yellowrock series. Warning: If you start this book, be prepared to be up until the wee hours finishing it. Then, you will want to read each, succeeding, book in the series until there aren't any more. Great characters, intriguing premise, and fun banter. I loved it and you will, too.

Nowhere to Run (Stephanie Carovella) (Volume 1) The main characters are described so well that you feel you start to know them. At first, Stephanie Corovella's personality seems so extreme, but as her past is slowly revealed you begin to understand her motivations. I couldn't put the book down. The plot twists are full of surprises and will keep you guessing.

Natural Born Angel: An Immortal City Novel Life turned upside down for Maddy Montgomery when she found out she was half-Angel and was catapulted into the scene of flashbulbs, paparazzi, and the fervent adulation that comes with being in the celebrity Angel world. She's trying to juggle her ordinary life high school, family, friends with the intense demands of being in the public eye as heartthrob Angel Jackson Godspeed's girlfriend.

Mercy Blade (Jane Yellowrock, Book 3) For those who have not read the first two books in the series, I would recommend reading them first. It is possible you could read this one alone, but it would be difficult to gain the emotional attachment and understanding of all the characters without reading the others. This is an excellent series and well worth the time to read. It is not romance heavy, but there is some elements to it. The Jane Yellowrock series is best suited for those who enjoy a bit of mystery, a tough [...] heroine, and lots of paranormal elements.

Lovers & Newcomers This book is situated in England and it was a really enjoyable story. The characters were believable and it took me back to the 1960 when the characters were all growing up. I would really reccomend this book.

Lost in Distraction This book has a lot of moving parts & it's hard to put them into place. This is a "thinking" romance book, which I think it wonderful. There is love, sex, danger, mad men running around...This book really is full of twists & turns and is a wonderful read. Please take the time to read this book, you will not be disappointed!!

Locked On Love the Jack Ryan series and the book was awesome action as always, though the players are getting old :) woulda given 5 stars if Audible and Kindle would have synced correctly. Frustrating experience to a great feature.

Live to Tell LIVE TO TELL satisfies a reader's craving for rich intricate suspense. LIVE TO TELL is more than a quick actionpacked race to the finish. Each moment brings the reader more and more into Lauren's world, and the villain's, creating an intensifying, unnerving, thrilling reading experience. The novel becomes richer and richer as it progresses with the gradual unveiling of the secret as the clock counts down. LIVE TO TELL is several cuts above most of the suspense published today. Simply outstanding!

Little Girls Lost When children are suddenly snatched out of their homes or from the streets with no clues about their whereabouts, people begin to panic. Compounding the problem is the perception that black missing children don't get as much attention as white missing children. Carson Ryder is thrown into this mix to help solve the crime without the help of Harry, who has been injured and is in the hospital. The two mysteries of missing children and Harry's attack both feature in this tale. This book ties all of its loose ends up at the end (sometimes in a way that's a bit too tidy), but is a satisfying and thrilling read. For a fun few hours of action, I'd recommend this book.

Little Girl Gone: A Logan Harper Thriller Once I began reading Little Girl Gone, I found the book difficult to put down. The fast-paced action pulled me along, and I continually wanted to read just a little more to find out what happens next. Like in his other books, Battles' writing style in Little Girl Gone creates questions in the reader's mind that beg for answers...and Battles does not disappoint. Battles moves the plot along with answers to questions that make sense without being predictable, and all the while building the suspense.

Little Face It’s every mother’s worst nightmare. When Alice Fancourt leaves her newborn daughter at home with her husband for the first time, she comes home to a horrifying discovery: her child has been swapped with another baby. In near hysterics, Alice rushes to call the police, but soon discovers that no one, not even her husband David, believes her. When the police arrive, Detective Simon Waterhouse is drawn to the lovely Alice but doubts her story and suspects that she is suffering from postpartum depression. Meanwhile, David is growing increasingly hostile and Alice begins to fear that her baby’s disappearance may be linked to his first wife’s untimely death. Can Alice convince the police before it’s too late?

Listening for Lions This is no tame story. It is sort of a "Sara Crewe" look-alike, but shows Rachel-Valerie in widely diverse situations. Growing into adulthood she answers the challenge of Kanoro to return to the "brightness" of Africa. This is an old-

fashioned story with its components of exotic settings, secrets, and a rich grandparent. But it isn't tame courage is demonstrated in different ways, and values emerge as positive elements of the tale. Don't miss Paula Jolin's review (teenreads) for an important perspective on changes from colonialism to now, and her warm appreciation of the elderly Pritchard's relationship with 'his granddaughter' as it is developed by the author.

Lion of the Sun It is outstanding historical fiction set in the period of the Crisis of the Third Century, when the Roman Empire almost fell apart. And unlike most Roman historical fiction, it set in the East where the enemy is the Sassanid (Iranian/Iraqi) empire, not the barbarians on the Rhine.

Liquid Smoke The key to this excellent suspense laden twisting thriller is Noah's bewildered shocked first person viewpoint. His stunning reactions to what is going on make for an engaging psychological mystery as Gill's revelation surfs away his mellow (see Killer Swell and Wicked Break).

Limitless Very good book, reminds me of a gritty, unhappy, version of "The R-Master" by Gordon Dickson. The one thought that kept circling through my mind as I read this novel (in one sitting) was: "Knowing all of this, would I still take such a drug?". In my case the answer would "Yes", so I have to wonder if I should be more sympathetic towards athletes who use performance-enhancing drugs, or indeed, anyone who uses any substance for simple pleasure. Highly recommended.

Lilja's Library: The World of Stephen King For over a decade now, Lilja has been one of the leading voices on the Internet when it comes to covering and reporting on Stephen King's books and movies. His website, Lilja's Library, is the die-hard fan's source for information about new King projects and breaking news, but Lilja has also featured his own in-depth interviews with the most important people in King's world, including Stephen King himself. Lilja's Library: The World of Stephen King is a brand new massive collection of over 150 of those reviews, over 40 of those interviews, and other special features of interest to King readers everywhere. If you've never been to the website, you're in for a real treat as you catch-up with over 500 pages of articles and features that are sure to please any kind of Stephen King fan, from the general reader to the die-hard collector. And for Lilja's constant readers, there's original material in this special volume that has never appeared anywhere on his website before, and every article and review has been updated and revised for this release. You have to see the table of contents to understand just how much great material is in this massive book, but just a few of the interviews include: Stephen King (twice!), Frank Darabont, Marsha DeFilippo, Mick Garris, Peter Straub, and many other people who have been involved in King's prolific career. The reviews include detailed commentary on well-known works by and about Stephen King, along with details about the rare works you might not have heard of, including the original scripts for Hearts in Atlantis, Stud City, and dozens of others the original pilot for The Dead Zone that never aired on TV Walking The Mile: The Making Of (a book that has never been released) the Pet Sematary and Secret Window, Secret Garden UK dramatizations the dozens of Dollar Babies, and more! There are also dozens of brand new features written exclusively for this volume, including interviews with Lilja himself and Glenn Chadbourne reviews of short films such as Here There Be Tygers, Boogeyman, Walking Ghost,The Secret Transit Codes of America's Highways, Night Surf, Stephen King's Gotham CafA?AŠ, Sorry, Right Number, Night of the Living Dead, and others reviews of the script for The Mist and scripts that are currently in development (including

Black House and From a Buick 8) reviews of books such as Stephen King: A Primary Bibliography, Stephen King: The Non-Fiction, and others and much, much more! If you're new to the world of Lilja's Library or already a constant reader, this special volume is a must-have for your collection! An exclusive Cemetery Dance Publications release, there are no other editions planned anywhere in the world for this incredible book.

Light from a Distant Star In addition to Harriet the Spy, this book reminded me somewhat of "To Kill a Mockingbird" in the sense that it draws children into the adult world in a negative way. Nellie learns that she can't always assume that her interference in other people's lives is welcome, and that adults aren't always what they seem. She deals with peers whose families define the word dysfunctional, and has to make some really tough decisions. I highly recommend this book both for the quality of the writing (Morris is a master at depicting complicated characters and making them both sympathetic and repellent at the same time) and the interesting story. It's never dull, has great characters, and just feels "real". I wanted to read more about these characters because it felt like spending time with actual people, and I liked them and wanted them to solve their problems and get a better life for themselves.

Lift This is a very quick read and has some very touching moments that every mother (and most fathers) will connect with. Makes you want to write a short story to your children to look back on.

Lennox The thriller part moves quickly and does twist and turn rather well until the final 'reveal', but I also enjoyed the atmosphere of post war Glasgow where poverty and violence sit comfortably together. Old fashioned Police attitudes (beating confessions out of prisoners) in a dark and gloomy city where war veterans have learnt how to kill makes the novel's setting an interesting one.

Legends of the Dragonrealm, Vol. III The epic fantasy series Legends of the Dragonrealm continues in this omnibus edition by New York Times bestselling author Richard A. Knaak...

Legon Awakening: Book One in the Legon Series

Overall, I loved this book. I listened to the original podcast and the written version had me doing loops with the improvements. Mr. Taylor has found his voice with this story. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. If you are an epic fantasy fan and like straight forward, simple fantasy, I think you will like this story.

Legion This is a reprint of the 1983 sequel to The Exorcist though with a different less graphic but much more nastier and lethal spin to the evil. The cast especially obsessed Kinderman are fully developed though his debates with himself and with anyone who would listen for more than a nanosecond become tedious as he keeps reiterating the same theological paradox of a kind God allowing evil to thrive. Still fans of the original book will enjoy William Peter Blatty's exciting sequel.

Left Neglected Beautifully written, Genova takes us into the hurried and harried lives of a young family who seem to have it all or do they? Running in all directions, jobs, daycare, after school activites, you know the drill. Traveling in her car Sarah looks away from the road for one split second, shes doing the one thing that so many of us have become guilty of in this high tech over connected world we live in,texting while driving. In that split second of inattention Sarah's world change's forever. The aftermath of the accident leaves Sarah with a traumatic brain injury know as left brain neglect. For the individual who suffers this devestating brain insult it is beyond all comprehension, because to Sarah the left side of her body ceases to exsist. I found this book to be truly fascinating as Ms. Genova has the uncanny ability to get inside Sarah's head and describes this injury from her point of view, so that you truly understand what she is feeling. It's an amazing gift and I believe made this book a most rewarding read. It is also a true cautionary story, one blink of an eye life can change forever and things can never be the same, we all get this, but this book reminds us quite vividly just how devestating the consquences can be.

Learn Me Gooder Jack Woodson is back for another year of teaching adventures. Each week or so, he recounts his adventures in educating to his friend and former coworker. Read about the continued trials of Mr. Woodson as he discusses the perils of third grade, the trouble with falling in love, and the ever dreaded Texas standardized tests. I just love the way Pearson writes the story of Mr. Woodson. I think it is quite clever how Pearson uses the email format, once again, to help relay the weekly happenings. It makes the reader feel like they are eavesdropping on real life conversations. Since I know quite a few teachers, I know how much these amusing stories are grounded in reality!

Lavondyss: Journey to an Unknown Region Lavondyss is not as accessible as Mythago Wood however, for me, it was even more rewarding. It's best if you read it slow, savoring the detail, the imagery and the incredible scope. I've read it several times. Each time, after finishing, it tends to haunt me for days and days. I also find it to be profoundly sad, but not in a bad way. I STRONGLY recommend Lavondyss.

Lawyer Trap The author always twists the ending in multiple ways that you never saw coming. When you finally turn that last page all you can do is shake you head and say, "How the hell did he do that?" If you're looking for very good writing joined with very good stories, this is an author you may want to check out.

Last Snow Overall I thought this book was okay. The protagonist surprisingly turns his dyslexia and visions/recollections of his daughter into great attributes. There is a lot of wondering who is a friend or enemy and the related agenda each character has to motivate he or she. There is a lot of delving into the past and explorations of the psychological background inspiring the main characters motivations. It was a bit too much of that for my taste. All in all an acceptable thriller.

Last Rites It was descriptive mysterious and just kept me interested.I loved it.

Last Citadel: A Novel of the Battle of Kursk The complexity of Abram Breit, a Nazi SS officer turned spy for the Russians, is particularly striking - a man who sees his apocalyptic world reflected in the work of the Cubist painters of his time, broken down into key universal elements that transcend both war and politics. The last battle scene is absolutely riveting, in itself worth the price of admission. The Last Citadel is a grand-slam novel, perfect.

Last Chance to Die The edition is the same book as Agent X, only with a different title. This also happened with Wilbur Smith's The Delta Decision, which was re-titled to Wild Justice.

Lady of Hay As she learns of Matilda's unhappy marriage, her love for the handsome Richard de Clare and the brutal threats of death at the hands of King John, it becomes clear that Jo's past and present are hopelessly entwined and that, eight hundred years on, a story of secret passion and unspeakable treachery is about to begin again!

Inside Straight Bracketed, as ever, by the iconic figure of Jetboy, and spiced with blog posts incorporated into the story, this is a book for new Wild Cards fans. There are enough sly references to the old guard to keep long-time fans happy, but the musings of the new aces as they try to find their place amid the falseness and consumerism of Hollywood and reality tv shows, as well as their experiences ofwar and prejudice, make for poignant and enjoyable reading. Recommended.

In the Service of Women This was an unexpected pleasure to read and definitely not like anything I have ever read before. I would definitely recommend to readers that enjoy books like 50 Shades of Grey.

Imaginary Girls

The exceptionally strong bond between Ruby and Chloe was deeply touching and perhaps even slightly disturbing at times. Their love so powerful, it could bend the reality and reach beyond the borders of this world. Beautiful, touching, magical. Nova Ren Suma has a sharp eye for detail. Thanks to her smooth storytelling you can visualize the creepy setting of the novel and almost taste the surreal world she created. Chloe's narrative voice was very genuine and real. I could almost imagine her sitting very close to me and whispering her secrets in my ear, in a monotone, creepy voice. And honestly, I get goose bumps just thinking about it! The characters were weird, but I guess that's exactly how they were meant to be, because they blend really well with this story.

Next to Nothing: A Firsthand Account of One Teenager's Experience with an Eating Disorder Published: 2007-08-03 | ISBN: 0195309669, 0195309650 | PDF | 192 pages | 3 MB More than simple cases of dieting gone awry, eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia are among the most fatal of mental illnesses, responsible for more deaths each year than any other psychiatric disorder. These illnesses afflict millions of young people, especially women, all over the world. Carrie Arnold developed anorexia as an adolescent and nearly lost her life to the disease. In Next to Nothing, she tells the story of her descent into anorexia, how and why she fell victim to this mysterious illness, and how she was able to seek help and recover after years of therapy and hard work. Now an adult, Arnold uses her own experiences to offer practical advice and guidance to young adults who have recently been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or who are at risk for developing one. Drawing on the expertise of B. Timothy Walsh, M.D., one of America's leading authorities on eating disorders, she reveals in easy-to-understand terms what is known and not known medically about anorexia and bulimia. The book covers such difficult topics as how to make sense of a diagnosis, the various psychotherapies available to those struggling with an eating disorder, psychiatric hospitalization, and how to talk about these illnesses to family and friends. The result is both a compelling memoir and a practical guide that will help to ease the isolation that an eating disorder can impose, showing young people how to manage and maintain their recovery on a daily basis. Part of the Adolescent Mental Health Initiative series of books written specifically for teens and young adults, Next to Nothing will also be a valuable resource to the friends and family of those with eating disorders. It offers much-needed hope to young people, helping them to overcome these illnesses and lead productive and healthy lives.

Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything (Revised and Expanded Edition) 2009 | ISBN-10: 0060731338 | 315 pages | EPUB, MOBI, PDF | 6,3 MB Which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? How much do parents really matter? These may not sound like typical questions for an economist to ask. But Steven D. Levitt is not a typical economist. He studies the riddles of everyday life—from cheating and crime to parenting and sports—and reaches conclusions that turn conventional wisdom on its head. Freakonomics is a groundbreaking collaboration between Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, an award-winning author and journalist. They set out to explore the inner workings of a crack gang, the truth about real estate agents, the secrets of the Ku Klux Klan, and much more. Through forceful storytelling and wry insight, they show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives—how people get what they want or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing.

The Battle of Bretton Woods: John Maynard Keynes, Harry Dexter White, and the Making of a New World Order ISBN: 0691149097 | 2013 | EPUB | 472 pages | 2 MB When turmoil strikes world monetary and financial markets, leaders invariably call for 'a new Bretton Woods' to prevent catastrophic economic disorder and defuse political conflict. The name of the remote New Hampshire town

where representatives of forty-four nations gathered in July 1944, in the midst of the century's second great war, has become shorthand for enlightened globalization. The actual story surrounding the historic Bretton Woods accords, however, is full of startling drama, intrigue, and rivalry, which are vividly brought to life in Benn Steil's epic account. Upending the conventional wisdom that Bretton Woods was the product of an amiable Anglo-American collaboration, Steil shows that it was in reality part of a much more ambitious geopolitical agenda hatched within President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Treasury and aimed at eliminating Britain as an economic and political rival. At the heart of the drama were the antipodal characters of John Maynard Keynes, the renowned and revolutionary British economist, and Harry Dexter White, the dogged, self-made American technocrat. Bringing to bear new and striking archival evidence, Steil offers the most compelling portrait yet of the complex and controversial figure of White--the architect of the dollar's privileged place in the Bretton Woods monetary system, who also, very privately, admired Soviet economic planning and engaged in clandestine communications with Soviet intelligence officials and agents over many years. A remarkably deft work of storytelling that reveals how the blueprint for the postwar economic order was actually drawn, The Battle of Bretton Woods is destined to become a classic of economic and political history.

Whitey Bulger: America's Most Wanted Gangster and the Manhunt That Brought Him to Justice ISBN: 0393087727 | 2013 | MOBI | 496 pages | 3 MB This unforgettable narrative follows the astonishing career and epic manhunt for Whitey Bulger—a gangster whose life was more sensational than fiction. Raised in a South Boston housing project, James "Whitey" Bulger became the most wanted fugitive of his generation. In this riveting story, rich with family ties and intrigue, award-winning Boston Globe reporters Kevin Cullen and Shelley Murphy follow Whitey’s extraordinary criminal career—from teenage thievery to bank robberies to the building of his underworld empire and a string of brutal murders. It was after a nine-year stint in Alcatraz and other prisons that Whitey reunited with his brother William "Billy" Bulger, who was soon to become one of Massachusetts’s most powerful politicians. He also became reacquainted with John Connolly, who had grown up around the corner from the Bulgers and was now—with Billy’s help—a rising star at the FBI. Once Whitey emerged triumphant from the bloody Boston gang wars, Connolly recruited him as an informant against the Mafia. Their clandestine relationship made Whitey untouchable; the FBI overlooked gambling, drugs, and even homicide to protect their source. Among the close-knit Irish community in South Boston, nothing was more important than honor and loyalty, and nothing was worse than being a rat. Whitey is charged with the deaths of nineteen people killed over turf, for business, and even for being informants; yet to this day he denies he ever gave up his friends or landed anyone in jail. Based on exclusive access and previously undisclosed documents, Cullen and Murphy explore the truth of the Whitey Bulger story. They reveal for the first time the extent of his two parallel family lives with different women, as well as his lifelong paranoia stemming in part from his experience in the CIA’s MKULTRA program. They describe his support of the IRA and his hitherto-unknown role in the Boston busing crisis, and they show a keen understanding of his mindset while on the lam and behind bars. The result is the first full portrait of this legendary criminal figure—a gripping story of wiseguys and cops, horrendous government malfeasance, and a sixteen-year manhunt that climaxed in Whitey’s dramatic capture in Santa Monica in June 2011. 16 pages of photographs

The Battle of Mogadishu: Firsthand Accounts from the Men of Task Force Ranger ISBN: 0345459652 | 2004 | EPUB | 256 pages | 613 KB “No matter how skilled the writer of nonfiction, you are always getting the story secondhand. Here’s a chance to go right to the source. . . . These men were there.” –MARK BOWDEN (from the Foreword) It started as a mission to capture a Somali warlord. It turned into a disastrous urban firefight and death-defying rescue operation that shocked the world and rattled a great nation. Now the 1993 battle for Mogadishu, Somalia–the incident that was the basis of the book and film Black Hawk Down–is remembered by the men who fought and survived it. Six of the best in our military recall their brutal experiences and brave contributions in these never-before-published, firstperson accounts. “Operation Gothic Serpent,” by Matt Eversmann: As a “chalk” leader, Eversmann was part of the first group of Rangers to “fast rope” from the Black Hawk helicopters. It was his chalk that suffered the first casualty of the battle. “Sua Sponte: Of Their Own Accord,” by Raleigh Cash: Responsible for controlling and directing fire support for the platoon, Cash entered the raging battle in the ground convoy sent to rescue his besieged brothers in arms. “Through My Eyes,” by Mike Kurth: One of only two African Americans in the battle, Kurth confronted his buddies’ deaths, realizing that “the only people whom I had let get anywhere near me since I was a child were gone.” “What Was Left Behind,” by John Belman: He roped into the biggest firefight of the battle and considers some of the mistakes that were made, such as using Black Hawk helicopters to provide sniper cover. “Be Careful What You Wish For,” by Tim Wilkinson: He was one of the Air Force pararescuemen or PJs–the highly trained specialists for whom “That Others May Live” is no catchphrase but a credo–and sums up his incomprehensible courage as “just holding up my end of the deal on a bad day.” “On Friendship and Firefights,” by Dan Schilling: As a combat controller, he was one of the original planners for the deployment of SOF forces to Mogadishu in the spring of 1993. During the battle, he survived the initial assault and carnage of the vehicle convoys only to return to the city to rescue his two closest friends, becoming, literally, “Last Out.” With America’s withdrawal from Somalia an oft-cited incitement to Osama bin Laden, it is imperative to revisit this seminal military mission and learn its lessons from the men who were there and, amazingly, are still here.

Forty Words For Sorrow (Audiobook) Time: 10:17:00 | Publisher: Brilliance Audio | ISBN: 1587885859 | 25 Jun 2001 Language: English | Audiobook in MP3 / 64 kbps | ~280 MB When four teenagers go missing in the small northern town of Algonquin Bay, the extensive police investigation comes up empty. Everyone is ready to give up except Detective John Cardinal, an all-too-human loner whose persistence only serves to get him removed from homicide. Haunted by a criminal secret in his own past and hounded by a special investigation into corruption on the force (conducted, he suspects, by his own partner), Cardinal is on the brink of losing his career - and his family. Then the mutilated body of thirteen-year-old Katie Pine is pulled out of an abandoned mineshaft. And only Cardinal is willing to consider the horrible truth: that this quiet town is home to the most vicious of serial killers. The case as it unfolds proves eerily reminiscent of the Moors murders in Britain, as an unassuming young man and his belligerently loyal girlfriend scout young victims for their macabre games. With the media, the provincial police and his own department questioning his every move, Cardinal follows increasingly tenuous threads towards the unthinkable. Time isn't only running out for him, but for another young victim, tied up in a basement wondering when and how his captors will kill him. Evoking the Canadian winter and the hearts of the killers and cops in icily realistic prose, Giles Blunt has produced a masterful crime novel that rivals the best of Martin Cruz Smith and introduces readers to a detective hero whose own human faults serve to fuel his unerring sense of justice.

100 Grey Cups: This Is Our Game English | ISBN: 0771017448 | 2012 | EPUB | 224 pages | 29,7 MB This country and its people are made of the same hardy stuff that makes our game and our league. The Grey Cup has helped unite our country for 100 years now. And it has revealed us, built our pride and our sense of Canadianness in annual tributes to effort, sweat and toil. But what does 100 years of history and cultural relevance add up to? When we Canadians look at the Grey Cup, we see far more than a gleaming football trophy; we see a reflection of ourselves. After its first years as an amateur challenge cup, the Grey Cup would go on to be awarded to the best football team in Canada, with Western challengers traveling back east to fall at the hands of the more established Toronto teams. That is, until a group of frustrated Winnipeggers paid an enormous sum during the Depression to buy up star players and bring the cup west for the first time. Following this, the games became about the pride of the country, East versus West, the national identity fought over the gridiron, all chronicled dutifully by bestselling author Stephen Brunt. From the birth of the modern CFL in 1958, through the dynastic Edmonton Eskimos and into the nineties, attempted USA expansion, franchise re-birth in Montreal, 100 Grey Cups has it all: behind-the-scene anecdotes, never-beforeseen photographs, and unprecedented access to the CFL archives. It is a must-have for all fans of this national tradition

The Last Voyage of Columbus (Audiobook). Being the Epic Tale of the Great Captain's Fourth Expedition, Including Accounts of Mutiny, Shipwreck, and Discovery ISBN: 1602526141 | 2005 | MP3 | ~09:37:00 | 267 MB The epic, never-before-told story of Columbus's final, and perhaps greatest, journey to the New World. The final voyage of Christopher Columbus was by far his most dangerous, unexpected, exhilarating, and consequential. It was, as Pulitzer Prize-winner Samuel Eliot Morison put it, "a story of adventure which imagination could hardly invent; a struggle between man and the elements, in which the most splendid manifestations of devotion, loyalty, and courage are mingled with the vilest human passions." Shockingly, no book has been written about this fateful final journey until now. Martin Dugard finally brings to light this saga of shipwreck, mutiny, discovery, and political treachery, telling the story of how Columbus's quest to find a passage to the Orient drove him onward in the face of peril. Here we meet Christopher Columbus, the determined, and sometimes desperate, elder adventurer, a far cry from the shrouded hero/villain of legend. The Last Voyage of Columbus offers up the long-lost last chapter in the life of a man whose story we only thought we knew.

Hog Pilots, Blue Water Grunts: The American Military in the Air, at Sea, and on the Ground (Audiobook) ISBN: 0739323423, ASIN: B0010Z7Q0G | 2007 | MP3 | ~17:10:00 | 380 MB In this extraordinary audiobook, Robert D. Kaplan lets listeners experience up close the American military worldwide in the air, at sea, and on the ground. Hog Pilots, Blue Water Grunts provides not only a riveting ground-level portrait of the Global War on Terrorism on several continents, but also a gritty firsthand account of how U.S. soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen are protecting sea-lanes, providing disaster relief, contending with the military rise of China, fighting the war in Iraq, and crafting contingency plans for war with North Korea and Iran. Expanding on Kaplan's acclaimed Imperial Grunts, Hog Pilots, Blue Water Grunts shifts focus to the Pacific and completes his analysis of Army Special Forces and the Marines, while also taking listeners into the heart of the myriad tribal cultures of the Air Force, surface and subsurface navies, and the regular Army's Stryker brigades. Kaplan goes deep into their highly technical and exotic worlds, and he tells this story through the words and perspectives of the enlisted personnel and junior officers themselves. Spies for Hire: The Secret World of Intelligence Outsourcing (Audiobook) ISBN: 1400157722, ASIN: B004QXV6HI | 2008 | MP3 | ~15:42:00 | 436 MB Running spy networks overseas. Tracking down terrorists in the Middle East. Interrogating enemy prisoners. Analyzing data from spy satellites and intercepted phone calls. All of these are vital intelligence tasks that have traditionally been performed by government officials accountable to Congress and the American people. But that is no longer the case. Starting during the Clinton administration, when intelligence budgets were cut drastically and privatization of government services became national policy, and expanding dramatically in the wake of 9/11, when the CIA and other agencies were frantically looking to hire analysts and linguists, the intelligence community has been relying more and more on corporations to perform sensitive tasks heretofore considered to be exclusively the work of federal employees. This outsourcing of intelligence activities is now a $50-billion-a-year business that consumes up to 70 percent of the U.S. intelligence budget. And it's a business that the government has tried hard to keep under wraps. Drawing on interviews with key players in the intelligence-industrial complex, contractors' annual reports and public filings with the government, and on-the-spot reporting from intelligence industry conferences and investor briefings, Spies for Hire provides the first behind-the-scenes look at this new way of spying. Shorrock explores how this partnership has led to wasteful spending and how it threatens to erode the privacy protections and congressional oversight that is so important to American democracy.

Many people want to eat well, organically and locally, but don't know where or even when to begin, since the offerings at their local farmers' market change with the season. In Cook This Now, Melissa Clark shares all her market savvy, including what she decides to cook after a chilly visit to the produce section in the dead of winter; what to bring to a potluck dinner that's guaranteed to be a hit; and how she feeds her marathon-running husband and finicky toddler. In addition, she regales us with personal stories about good times with family and friends, and cooking adventures such as her obsessive cherry pie experimentation and the day she threw out her husband's last preserved Meyer lemon. In her welcoming, friendly voice, Melissa takes you inside her life while providing the dishes that will become your goto meals for your own busy days. Recipes include Crisp Roasted Chicken with Chickpeas, Lemons, and Carrots with Parsley Gremolata; Baked Apples with Fig and Cardamom Crumble; Honey-Roasted Carrot Salad with Arugula and Almonds; Quick-Braised Pork Chops with Spring Greens and Anchovies; Coconut Fudge Brownies--and much more. Melissa delivers easy, delicious meals featuring organic, fresh ingredients that can be uniquely obtained during each particular month. It can be a real challenge to feed families these days, but Melissa's recipes and inviting writing encourage home cooks to venture outside of the familiar, yet please everyone at the table.
