Love Him or Leave Him This book has a lot of twists and turns that keeps the reader interested. Not only did she make me want to up and move to a small town and become part of that community, she gave me a better understanding of what community truly means when bad things can happen to good people. This was the first book by Sara that I read and I'm excited to get my hands on more of her books to get lost in the "fantasy" she creates.
Life in Outer Space The story is seen in Sam's eyes, a geek who loves to play Warcraft, loves Princess Leia and an aspiring screen writer. His eccentric friends: Mike who is gay, hilarious Adrian and witty Allison makeup their core group. Their world was turned upside down when pretty Camilla Carter transferred to their school. Camilla who is the daughter of a know music journalist is popular yet with a geeky side. Camilla is trying to force Sam out of his comfort zone one step at a time. Eventhough Sam likes Camilla he tries to throw his feelings out. Popular and Geek together? Will Sam be able to see himself worthy for Camilla? Read this book to find out.
Life Altering Beautiful I liked the characters and their interaction very much. The story line is great and I love that it doesn't have your typical ending. I read this book in just a few hours because I could literally not put it down! I can't wait to read her next book so that I can see what she has up her sleeve!
Kingdom Keepers VI: Dark Passage As always, Ridley Pearson never fails to bring you an exciting, brilliant book that will keep you sitting on the edge of you chair at all times, and occasionally, even biting your fingernails. A must-read for any Disney fans. I, personally, cannot wait for the next installment in the series, as it is set in Disneyland. I am an avid Disney fan and I visit Disneyland very often using my Premium Pass.
Kingdom Keepers V: Shell Game
I personally am a huge KK fan so the release of this installment was much anticipated and rewarded greatly. I'm not going to spoil the book, but I will tell you that this book is fast paced, funny, puzzling, and worth it's weight in gold. Most defenitely buy it (unless you havent read the rest of the series. Then start from the 1st book which is just as incredibly engaging as this one.
If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name: News from Small-Town Alaska This is not grand literature, but the writing is clear and enjoyable to read. It is not really as humorous as it is advertised to be (though there are some funny moments), but I do not think this was the intent in the first place. It is a heartfelt glimpse into small-town life, and though I am originally from Alaska myself, I have no experience living in a small, remote community, and found the book intriguing. Though I don't think I could live permanently in such a place, I am now very interested in visiting Haines myself, and I think the book may well have the same effect on other readers. It's a light, quick read, but definitely worthwhile, even if all you're looking for is a way to pass the time on an airplane (which is, in fact, how I read the book). I'd certainly recommend giving it a shot.
I Can't Believe He Spanked Me!
Lane and Zara have delivered a red hot story that's perfect for a lonely evening filled with erotic hungers. If you like spankings delivered by a distinctly English Dom, add this to your library!
Hush (Tangleheart) Author Carey Baldwin has a wonderful talent for creating protagonists who are as smart and likable as they are resourceful people you'd actually want to be friends with. This novella's small town setting plus the gritty mystery are the perfect ingredients for a quick, suspense-filled read. Fans of FIRST DO NO EVIL will love HUSH. And vice versa.
House of Leaves This is the haunted house that's in the film that the old man made up and wrote about as if it were as real as he was, but who was really just a figment of the narrator's fertile imagination, the narrator that doesn't really exist, except on paper and in the reader's mind and imagination...so maybe none of it exists...or all of it does. Maybe the house has turned on its porch lights somewhere deep, deep inside of you, down all those twisting tunnels and swirling, dark echoing caves.
Home by Dark I gave this book 4/5 stars. It started a little slower then I like for a suspense story. The minor characters were a little boring and did not really make the story better. All that said I liked the tension between the two main characters, Rachel and Colin. I liked how the author wrote their conversations and interactions. It was a decent enough suspense story with some romance thrown in.
Hidden Order: A Thriller New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor delivers a Masterpiece thriller of power, politics, murder, and conspiracy. The U.S. is on the verge of collapse, danger is everywhere, candidates turn up dead and Harvath is forced to find the answers in the greatest threat America has ever seen, while the clock ticks fast. A fine line exists between good and evil as fear continues to fill the air. The colorful characters come to life, the setting is picture-perfect and the compelling story grabs your attention in this mesmerizing thriller from beginning to end. Exciting, entertaining, and enjoyable read. Highly recommended!
Half Lives Seventeen-year-old Icie's parents have given her $10,000 in cash, a map of a top-secret bunker, and instructions to get there by any means necessary. They have news of an imminent viral attack and know that the bunker is Icie's only hope for survival. Along with three other teens, she lives locked away for months, not knowing what's happening in the outside world or who has survived. And are they safe in the bunker after all?
Grandad, There's a Head on the Beach: A Jimm Juree Mystery I love Cotterill's skill in creating three dimensional quirky, sympathetic characters that you fast learn to care about and enjoy. Jimm is smart and savvy, can't resist a mystery and, at her core, is immensely kind. The setting of southeast Asia brings a different flavour and perspective, showing us we have more in common with folks on the far side of the world than we might otherwise realize. Highly recommend this series.
Going Interstellar
The stories in this book are quite engaging. In fact, I finished this book over the course of three days. With stories by Ben Bova, Jack McDevitt, Louise Marley, Michael Bishop, Sarah A. Hoyt, and Mike Resnick, Going Interstellar looks at adventures beyond the solar system from a variety of unique perspectives, including an aging astrophysicist, a technologist in an interstellar feudal society, an artificial intelligence program, a teenager, and the next Dalai Lama. Interstellar travel is a bit like other frontiers for writers where there is little known about the place or the experience of getting there. It allows them to impose their own dreams and obsessions on a blank slate, much like Sir Thomas More place his Utopia in America. Intelligent machines? A reborn Tibetan culture? Why not?
Ghost Spin This is the third in a series and perhaps the most difficult for me to appreciate. This is not a quick read for the subway because the plot is too complex to follow without concentrating over much of the book.
Five Summers
I went to summer camp for SEVEN SUMMERS and remember exactly how important every single moment was to me. Reading Una's book brought me back to those days, when the friendships I made felt life-changing and the boys I liked made my mind reel. I got the book on Thursday and stayed in bed Saturday morning to finish it, finding myself with tears in my eyes by the end of it.
Fifth Grave Past the Light (Charley Davidson) This installment is simply non-stop. Like the other installments, multiple mysteries unfold in the beginning, but this one piles on even more mysteries, red herrings, violence, possible alliances and potential antagonists for future stories. I felt this story set the stage for a different direction on where this series is heading and I for one am completely thrilled. For me, there's nothing more fun and sexy than following a possible romance between the Grim Reaper and the Son of Satan, and alas, we find more quality Charley and Reyes time here than the other books put together. Although we're left on a bit of a cliffhanger, I really can't say that I mind. I was frustrated with the stalled relationships and it appears now things may be full steam ahead. I will anxiously be awaiting the next installment.
Fiend There are no quotation marks, which is something I've noticed more and more of with younger writers. I'm not sure what it means, but I tend to think it gets in the way of the dialogue. However, quotes or not, the dialogue in this book is raw and not for people who dislike violence, sexual imagery, or the usual contingent of curse words. I think Mr. Stenson is someone to watch. This book reminded me of the energy and unpredictability you get in one of Chuck Palahniuk's books. This is a quick, but powerful read.
Eye for an Eye: A Dewey Andreas Novel I'd recommend Eye For An Eye to anyone who enjoys a heavily plot driven thriller in the tradition of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. As a matter of fact, for my money, I much prefer Ben Coes's books to Brad Thor's and like them at least as much as Vince Flynn's. While Eye For An Eye can be fully enjoyed without having read Power Down, Coup D'Etat and The Last Refuge, it would probably be a good idea to read these in sequence or to at least read The Last Refuge first.
Cthulhurotica There are plenty of stories here, ranging from poetic to prurient, and the collection is something I'd highly recommend to any Lovecraft aficionado, as well as those who like stories that offer new twists on old material. I suppose it is much like Lovecraft's own work, in that it can be easily dismissed by the unfamiliar, but there is a lot more slithering beneath the surface than we might give it credit for. I say give it a chance if you're feeling adventurous.
Cold Copper: The Age of Steam Like the Madder brothers the rest of the characters in COLD COPPER definitely had more mystical paranormal abilities than a lot of other steampunk books I've read which gave the story a more mysterious and even eerie tone. Filled with a combination of mysticism, steampunk technology, and adventure COLD COPPER is an excellent addition to the Age of Steam series. I am looking forward to what is in store next for Cedar Hunt and his friends.
Cinderella Steals Home I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book but I've liked the other books in the Cinderella series so I thought this one would be good too, and it was. It was a very easy read and I read it in one day! I would recommend this book to people who have already read Cinderella in skates because it features some of the characters in that book.
Christian Nation Frederic Rich has not written a particularly "literary" novel. But it is a well-written, well-thought out look at the very possible scenario that still threatens our great nation. Read it and begin to look to the future.
By Any Other Name Because of something that happened, she and her family have had to enter witness protection and have all assumed new identities. All, that is, except her sister Katie, who is autistic. Starting at a new school mid-term is hard enough at the best of times, and Holly has no clue who she is any more. Lonely and angry, she reaches out to friends - new and old. But one wrong move will put all their lives in danger...
Blurred (Kissed by Death) I think my favorite thing about this book (and the series really) is that nothing is easy. Everything good has to be worked for. There are no neat and pretty bows at the end, where everyone is happy with no consequences what so ever. Don't get me wrong, there is a definite conclusion and I loved it, however there was sacrifice that came along with it, it wasn't handed over easily. As far as a paranormal story goes, the story feels real.
Beautiful Bitch It's amazing how nice it feels to catch up with some loved characters. Bennett is a sexy and hot as ever and Chloe is just as strong willed. This books is fab and a nice little story to five us some more to what occurred between Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Stranger.
Autumn (Dog Days) I highly recommend Autumn if you enjoy reading about the supernatural and curses. I promise you will be thanking me for it! ok you might be cursing me because then you'll be stuck dying to know what happens next too. But that's one of the joys of reading.
Anybody But Him There is no sex within the pages of this book. None. Notta. Zilch. But that doesn't take away from the story. Like I said it's a sweet romance and I'm glad I took the time to read it. Ms Baxter is a new to me author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
All Rivers Flow to the Sea Alison McGhee has done something remarkable with "All Rivers Flow to the Sea." Not only has she written an excellent short novel for a particular age group, she has written a novel that transcends the age group. If I didn't know that this was "teen fiction" I would easily put this among her adult novels. She doesn't talk down to her reader, she is incredibly sympathetic, and "All Rivers Flow to the Sea" happens to be just as good as "Rainlight" or "Shadow Baby". That is high praise indeed, because those two novels (especially "Rainlight") are exceptional.
A Vagrant Story A surprising book to find for free. It's a unique story filled with fun characters. It's quite touching while at the same time the characters a all humorous. All in all it was fun all round and I don't regret reading it.
A Night on the Orient Express A mysterious errand a promise made to a dying friend an unexpected proposal a secret reaching back a lifetime...As the train sweeps on, revelations, confessions and assignations unfold against the most romantic and infamous setting in the world.
A Fractured Light (Beautiful Dark) I don't know how much I can really say without spoiling a lot of things so this will be a rather vague review. Just know that I really enjoyed it, loved it to bits a pieces (even if it seemed slow to me but then again, this is probably because I am not an Asher girl). There are things that happen (closer to the end) that I didn't see coming. Things I'm assuming are coming in the third book and I can't wait to see if they're true. Oh man, I so hope they're true.

The Cleanest Race: How North Koreans See Themselves and Why It Matters Published: 2011-12-20 | ISBN: 1935554344 | PDF | 224 pages | 4 MB Understanding North Korea through its propaganda: A newly revised and updated edition that includes a consideration of Kim Jung Ils successor, Kim Jong-Un What do the North Koreans really believe? How do they see themselves and the world around them? Here B.R. Myers, a North Korea analyst and a contributing editor of The Atlantic, presents the first full-length study of the North Korean worldview. Drawing on extensive research into the regimes domestic propaganda, including films, romance novels and other artifacts of the personality cult, Myers analyzes each of the countrys official myths in turn-from the notion of Koreans unique moral purity, to the myth of an America quaking in terror of "the Iron General." In a concise but groundbreaking historical section, Myers also traces the origins of this official culture back to the Japanese fascist thought in which North Koreas first ideologues were schooled. What emerges is a regime completely unlike the Wests perception of it. This is neither a bastion of Stalinism nor a Confucian patriarchy, but a paranoid nationalist, "military-first" state on the far right of the ideological spectrum. Since popular support for the North Korean regime now derives almost exclusively from pride in North Korean military might, Pyongyang can neither be cajoled nor bullied into giving up its nuclear program. The implications for US foreign policy-which has hitherto treated North Korea as the last outpost of the Cold War-are as obvious as they are troubling. With North Korea now calling for a "blood reckoning" with the "Yankee jackals," Myerss unprecedented analysis could not be more timely.

No Slack: The Financial Lives of Low-Income Americans 2012 | ISBN: 0815722338 | English | 294 Pages | PDF | 12.35 MB The financial crisis lay bare how the financial system failed the nation but left hidden the many ways in which that system still fails the most vulnerable Americans. In this volume, Michael S. Barr explores how low- and moderate-income households cope with financial stress, use financial services to make ends meet, and often come up short. Reporting on the empirical results of an in-depth survey of 1,000 households in metropolitan Detroit, Barr finds that highcost financial services, barriers to saving, lack of insurance, and credit constraints contribute to poverty and other socioeconomic problems. He describes how households attempt to overcome these barriers, juggle expenses and borrowing every month, and find ways to save. The author shows, for example, how tax refunds for working families can be an important avenue for saving but are often diverted in no small part to pay for expensive refund anticipation loans or check cashing services. No Slack describes the use of banks as well as alternative financial services providers, such as check cashers, payday lenders, pawnshops, and the like. Particularly salient in light of the nation's housing crisis, the author also explains how many low-income and minority households received high-cost, complicated mortgages. Barr analyzes how technological innovation, particularly payment cards, can help overcome barriers to financial services for these households. He then explores how insights from behavioral economics can contribute to private sector and governmental initiatives to improve financial services for households and lead to better financial services regulation. The book concludes with a set of policy recommendations to improve consumer protection and financial access as we rebuild our financial system in the years ahead.
Nice or Nasty: A Book of Opposites Publisher: Little Brown & Co | 1987 | ISBN: 0316119156 | English | PDF | 25 pages | 11.55 Mb This is a funny book about opposites with immediate appeal, one that makes the concept readily understandable. Readers will find a memorable roller-coaster ride between up and down; first and last finishings of a race that also evoke the joy of victory and the agony of defeat; offerings of hamburgers or escargots that muster up either appetite or the lack of; hard and soft candy; hot dogs and ice cream; outdoor activities for day and indoor activities for nighttime. The humor in the illustrations is recognizable instantly, and the process of comparing and contrasting one picture with another will stay with readers. Ages 3-8. From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 2 The wry humor of this concept book of opposites makes it an appealing choice. Some pages may be slightly confusing (often both word choices are illustrated on the same page, and ``Quiet and loud,'' showing characters who look like Laurel and Hardy playing instruments, could also apply to the preceding page, ``Big and little''). However, children will delight in discovering the differences in the large, amusing watercolors on each page. During that turbulent period he commanded Mercian armies in their struggle against the neighboring kingdoms of Northumbria and Wessex and against the Welsh tribes. Queen of the Air: A True Story of Love and Tragedy at the Circus ISBN: 030798656X | 2013 | EPUB | 336 pages | 5 MB A true life Water for Elephants, Queen of the Air brings the circus world to life through the gorgeously written, true story of renowned trapeze artist and circus performer Leitzel, Queen of the Air, the most famous woman in the world at the turn of the 20th century, and her star-crossed love affair with Alfredo Codona, of the famous Flying Codona Brothers. Like today's Beyonce, Madonna, and Cher, she was known to her vast public by just one name, Leitzel. There may have been some regions on earth where her name was not a household expression, but if so, they were likely on polar ice caps or in the darkest, deepest jungles. Leitzel was born into Dickensian circumstances, and became a princess and then a queen. She was not much bigger than a good size fairy, just four-foot-ten and less than 100 pounds. In the first part of the 20th century, she presided over a sawdust fiefdom of never-ending magic. She was the biggest star ever of the biggest circus ever, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, The Greatest Show on Earth. In her life, Leitzel had many suitors (and three husbands), but only one man ever fully captured her heart. He was the handsome Alfredo Codona, the greatest trapeze flyer that had ever lived, the only one in his time who, night after night, executed the deadliest of all big-top feats, The Triple--three somersaults in midair while traveling at 60 m.p.h. The Triple, the salto mortale, as the Italians called it, took the lives of more daredevils than any other circus stunt.
From A to Bee: My First Year as a Beginner Beekeeper ISBN: 1849532729 | 2012 | EPUB | 288 pages | 330 KB Taken from his popular blog, the Surrey Beekeeper, James Dearsley presents the first personal, accessible account of the experience of learning how to harvest bees Beekeeping . . . oh my . . . what have I done? I am 30 years old, I have been married for three years and am a new father to a fantastic little boy. Surely there are things that I should be doing at this age which do not involve little yellow and black insects that can hurt you if you are remotely clumsy (which at 6ft 5, I have an amazing ability to be). James Dearsley's wife thought he had lost his mind when he announced his intention to become a beekeeper. But like many interested in the self-sufficient lifestyle, he loved gardening and growing vegetables in his garden and the old romantic in him had idealistic notions of teaching his little boy where honey came from, so he set himself what seemed a reasonable goal: to get, in a year's time, just one jar of honey.

Drew Peterson Exposed Polygraphs reveal the shocking truth about Stacy Peterson and Kathleen Savio English | 2008 | ISBN: 1601641877 | PDF | 320 pages | 12,1 MB Exposing the never-before-published polygraph results of Drew Peterson’s testimony, this illuminating exposé reveals new details in one of the most provocative and high profile criminal investigations in the country. October 28, 2008 marks the one year anniversary of Stacy Peterson’s disappearance from her home in Bollingbrook, Illinois. Since then, her husband Drew Peterson has been at the center of a media storm which shows no sign of abating—and this book is sure to stir it up. Peterson, a former police sergeant, is a person of interest in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, and in the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He has not been charged in either case, but he has been been excoriated in the media, and found guilty in the court of public opinion. Drawing on hundreds of hours of exclusive taped interviews with Peterson and his family, polygraphs and a the first publicly published time-line from the suspect, this journalistic inquiry presents the arguments for and against Peterson’s involvement in these cases with an impartial eye and takes the reader inside the head of a suspect. Drew Peterson's own timeline for the nights of Kathleen's death and Stacy's disappearance are revealed here for the first time, as well as the startling results of the two polygraph tests he agreed to undergo for this book. Peterson was questioned by examiner Lee McCord, a thirty-four-year expert in the polygraph, regarding his involvement in the death of Kathleen and the disappearance of Stacy. The results of these tests, the evidence, and testimony assembled here shed new light on the details of the police investigations, motives and alternative theories of the case. Conflicting witness accounts, false leads, widespread rumors, and red herrings that have dogged the investigation are analyzed and 140 photographs and documents (including many private family photos published here for the first time) take the reader beyond the headlines to the heart of this sensational story. The frank and often unsavory portrait of Drew Peterson that emerges is bound to provoke further controversy.
