Inferno (Robert Langdon) From The very beginning the story to the very end you will be held to the end of your seat, a real page turner once I started I could not put it down if you are fa-miler with the other Robert Langdon stories I highly recommend picking this one up.

Topped Chef: A Key West Food Critic Mystery I'm an avid "Cozy Mystery" reader, and Lucy Burdette has outdone every other 'cozy" author in my humble opinion. She pulls you in, lets you identify with the main character, and nails you to each page with a wonderful story line! I don't know if it's because her tales are steeped in Key West magic, if it's the oh-so-human Hayley Snow, or the combination of magic that has me completely mesmerized...and salivating for Lucy's fourth!!

The Rosie Project This is a fast-paced love story with an interesting twist. Simsion's characters have plenty of depth and the fact that none of them is perfect adds to their appeal. While Don may be wired differently (mentally assessing the age and BMI

of everyone he meets, reacting to stress with a spreadsheet or a schedule), he has integrity, focus, enthusiasm and determination, and it is impossible not to feel empathy with him even while laughing at his missteps.

The Steel Remains The novel has almost everything. Swords & Sorcery, two or three kinds of non-humans, time manipulation, alternate dimensions, extreme sex and battles. The thing which makes all the Morgan novels stand out from the usual books, however, is the intense, searing detail that make you cringe and grit your teeth. You feel the pain and anger, the revulsion and remorse more than is comfortable and you feel as if you have come through some kind of struggle when you finish the book. Definitely not for everybody.

The Song of Andiene Andiene, an exiled princess taught forbidden magic by a dragon, seeks to overthrow her uncle and regain her kingdom. Ilbran, a fisherman's son with a desperate hatred of magic, wants only to find safety for his daughter.

To The Moon and Back Ellie Kendall lost it all when her beloved husband, Jamie, died in a car accident. She lost the love of her life all the memories and plans and growing old together vanished in a heartbeat. Her co-workers, friends and family started treating her differently, walking on eggshells and constantly apologizing for her heartbreak. Ellie may have even lost her sanity - because occasionally she still talks to Jamie (and sometimes he talks back). But all that is going to change now. It has been a year and a half since Jamie passed away, and Ellie needs a change.

The Treachery of Beautiful Things Seven years has passed since Jenny's brother, Tom, was swallowed whole by the trees. Gone but not forgotten, Jenny returns to the forest for a final closure. The forest calls out to her, with the sound of a flute, his music, and the sound pulls her deep into the forest and she soon finds herself in a place where all is not what it seems. The World of the Faerie Realm.

The Summer We Came to Life The setting of The Summer We Came To Life is perfect, absolutely perfect. I've never read a novel set in Honduras and despite the poverty we're shown in the novel, it sounds like a magical place and I couldn't think of anywhere else Deborah Cloyed could have set the novel. The setting encapsulated the entire novel. The novel manages to pack in so much. The history of the older characters is rich and interesting, never boring, and I liked the way the older characters taught Sam and Isabel about their struggles and how the world has changed in such a short space of time.

There aren't enough superlatives in the world for me to describe this novel. Just look at the ones I've already used: magical, charming, stunning, unputdownable. Just the fact it kept me up so late is all you need to know. I love my sleep but I literally couldn't wrench myself away, I couldn't make myself say `That's enough' and to turn my Kindle off. It was more `Oh, there's only x percent left, I may as well finish it'. I started the novel last night at 45% and even then I was unable to put it down. I read 55% of a novel in about two hours, which is how desperate I was to finish it. I love lots of books, that's a given. I read more books than most people ever will in their life, and I give lots of 5 star ratings, but there are some novels that should be 5 star stars, if that even makes sense. The Summer We Came To Life touched me deep down, and it's absolutely worth purchasing. I loved it.

The Summer I Lost It Kat is just like other fourteen-year-old girls. Except that this summer, she's taking charge of her life and finally losing weight. But can she do it?

The Sudoku Murder: A Katie McDonald Mystery This well-written mystery grabbed my attention from page one. Katie is reluctantly drawn into a small New England town murder mystery full of intrigue that rings true, believable quirky characters and all. What with the popularity of sudoku, as well as all puzzles, The Puzzle Museum, almost istelf a character in this plot, will make you yearn to visit. The surprising plot twists will keep mystery lovers, as well as sudoku fans reading way into the night.

The Street Lawyer Mike wants justice for the victims. He steals the lawyer's file from his law firm because the lawyer's clerk told him that the file contains proof that the lawyer broke the law. He quits the firm, and goes to work with two lawyers who help homeless people. He now earns $30,000 a year and his wife files for divorce. He decides to sue his former law firm. He finds out that the firm transferred the clerk to another city to get him out of the way. Grisham adds drama to the tale by telling how the law firm acts against Mike and by reciting many stories about the homeless and their problems. In fact, Grisham spends a lot of time discussing the issues surrounding homeless people and the way the government treats them. The book does not move at a fast pace. However, readers will enjoy reading about the legal maneuvers, whether Mike's litigation is successful, and if he can avoid prison for his theft.

The Stranger You Seek It is a great mystery/thriller set in Atlanta and developed around the characters of Lieutenant Aaron Rauser, homicide detective of the Atlanta Police Department and the flawed heroine - ex-FBI profiler, Keye Street, who is now a private detective, a process server and bail recovery agent. Although she is working with Rauser and the APD on a serial murder case, we are treated with some of her amusing episodes as a private detective. The plot is so tight it will keep

you flipping the pages and all I can say about the ending is WOW. It is reminiscent of my favorite mystery writer, Karin Slaughter. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle I feel much the same way about this book as I do about the TV show "Lost" which I believe is probably the best show ever made, yet was horribly disappointed and mad at the ending. I bought the audio book of Edgar Sawtelle to keep me company on my lengthy 5 1/2 hour drives I take each weekend. It was supposed to last through several weekends. However, I was so enthralled with the story, I bought a cheap boombox and stayed holed up in my hotel several nights listening to the story. I loved it and could not stand to put it away. There were so many mysteries and I loved the characters, especially Henry and Ida Payne. I couldn't wait to hear more about the bottle, Claude and Gar's history, the mystery behind the still born baby, etc. At the end of course, those questions went unanswered...as did my hundreds of questions throughout LOST. I would still recommend this book and am glad I read it, but it could have been so much more and feel like there should have been a better payoff for all I invested into it.

The Stolen (Henry Parker Novels) The latest Henry Parker investigative tale is an exciting whodunit as the hero and his ex girlfriend team up on the case. Henry is terrific as his inquiries leave him confused with more unanswered questions his first hand account enhances his bewilderment and that of the audience as the motive is just out of reach. However, it is his sort of schizoid personality that makes him a superb character as he is a classic New York City cynic on the job and a closet romantic in his home. Fans will appreciate this entertaining suspense thriller with the right touch of sexual tension to augment a fine read.

The Stepmother What I appreciated most was the way Ms. Adams carried me through the raw, honest parts of the book and dropped me off once we came full circle. It wasn't a wave-of-the-wand, everything is better story. The growth of the characters earned them their happy ending.

Video Kill It is the best script Erik Neilsen and Tony Rocca ever wrote. They call it Video Kill, a shocker about a psycho who videotapes beautiful actresses as he murders them. But when the killings really happen, Erik and Tony must race to keep the video killer from finding more victims!

Wicked Destiny Wicked Destiny was an exciting addition to the ever-growing PNR genre. Being Tiffany Stevens debut book, I was extremely impressed by Wicked Destiny's well-developed characters and engaging storyline. It held my attention from beginning to end and I can't wait to see more from this author and more of Declan! *swoon* Well done, Ms. Stevens!

The Other Typist This is one of those books that you will want to talk about as soon as you finish reading, especially because of its denouement which lends itself to spirited debate. In fact I wish I could discuss it right now and I love endings like that.

The Cold Nowhere Brian Freeman is an international bestselling author of psychological suspense novels featuring detectives Jonathan Stride and Serena Dial. His books have been sold in 46 countries and 20 languages and have appeared as Main Selections in the Literary Guild and the Book of the Month Club. His settings in the bleak, frozen landscape of Duluth, Minnesota, and his deeply complex characters, have drawn comparisons to Swedish noir.

The Devil to Pay (The Devilish Devalles, Novella #1) Over the years, Gabriel Devalle has more than earned his reputation as one of “those devilish Devalles.” No one is more surprised than Gabe, therefore, when a debutante tosses herself into his path, only to have her gown “accidentally” ripped by her mischievous and alluring sister, all in the name of causing a scandal. Or was it to prevent a scandal? Either way, the gown-ripping sister has certainly drawn his notice.

The B Girls This book was heartwarming and hilarious at the same time. I am so hoping there is going to be a sequel. Of you want to laugh out loud hard read this book.

The Astral I really enjoyed the storylines involving Harry's adult children Hector and Karina. Karina leads a freegan lifestyle, dumpster diving to obtain discarded goods in order to "redistribute them to the poor". She also happens to be gay, but the topic is not a focal point. Harry and Luz are accepting of her orientation, and it is merely a descriptor such as her age or hair color. (I mention this because if you are looking for a book that delves into the subject of parents coming to terms with a child being gay, then this is not that book.) I found the freeganism to be very interesting and I liked Karina's fiesty personality. Hector's sub-plot of joining a religious cult was facinating. As I read the main plot about Harry and Luz's shambles of a marriage, I found myself hoping that the next chapter would involve another visit to the cult's compound.

The Arrangement The Arrangement is the sort of novel that pulls you in on page one and wraps its incredible atmosphere around you until it has completely pulled you into the story. Just when you feel you have it all worked out, it delivers a solid and believable twist that leaves you breathless. One of the plot reversals was nothing less than mind blowing, and that's not overstating it. I will not go into the details of the story because that might spoil it but I can say that the ending of this novel had one of the best surprises I've read in a long time, and every little twist and turn was tied up in a way that made absolute sense.

The Armada Boy In Kate Ellis, British literature has a champion to contend with the commercial american heavyweights churning out their tuppenny paperbacks. In the Armada Boy, Ellis successfully produces three narratives of different periods of time, all around the same West Country area. She interweaves these timeframes in a refreshing fashion that rather than slowing and disrupting the flow and pace of the story make the novel flow seemlessly and intelligably between ages. The author maintains the characters from the previous novel but manages to find the right blend of introduction and continuity meaning no readers are alienated in terms of character development. The novel's star characters would appear to be the Americans who I assure you, after spending several hours in the presence of some American Vets. on Christmas Eve are spookily realistic. The interaction amongst the detectives is impressive, with real depth and life which adds to the novel rather than drawing away from the pace of the book. Bottom line: A great read as either a stand alone novel or part of a sucessful series.

Suicide Run: Three Harry Bosch Stories The second story is a little better, although being told in first person, which still feels weird when it comes to Bosch, at least for me (the two books where he is retired and kind of private-eyeing are not my favorites exactly because of the first person style, despite the good plots). The last story is actually really good and there I felt I was reading a classic Harry Bosch. It's also the longest one. All in all it is a good buy. After all, it's always great to read about Bosch!

Sudden Independents This is a great novel about an apocalyptic plague that leaves everyone over the age of 18 dead, and everyone under the age of 18 struggling to survive without knowledge of the world or help to understand it. It is very believable how the author explained that kids banned together and found places to live and how some tried to build a life and towns and order again and how some turned into roving brats.

Strong Enough to Die: A Caitlin Strong Novel I understand that this was the author's first novel in the Caitlin Strong series, so I will temper my comments. The novel was well-written, but too-long on drama and too-short on action. I struggled to get through the book, forcing myself to read a few chapters at a time.

Strange Angels Strange Angels is a fresh take on a popular subject in YA literature, showcasing a heroine that is strong, gutsy, and fallible. Fans of the TV show Supernatural will be happy to dig into this Pandora's Box of creepy-crawlies, bloodsuckers, werwulfen, hexes, and many other assorted paranormal creatures and enchantments. Each supernatural creature possesses its own unique characteristics within the novel which makes Strange Angels stand apart from the mundane. St. Crow's writing is solid and wonderfully descriptive, and she skillfully balances out the novel with actionfilled scenes and memories from Dru's past, transforming her world into a tangible and comprehensive one. Though she has a tendency to repeat herself in suspenseful scenes, St. Crow does an admirable job creating and building fear and apprehension. Her characters are well-rounded, the setting vivid, and the action scenes suspenseful: the perfect makings for a stellar new series that will spellbind readers and leave them begging for more.

Street of the Five Moons: A Vicky Bliss Novel of Suspense Our protagonist, gorgeous and brainy, Vicky Bliss is again on the move when she and her boss from the National Museum of Munich discover that someone is making excellent copies of the most famous jewels in the world. In this case it's a replica of the Charlemagne talisman. Vicky's who has a PhD in Art History and Medieval European History is also an amateur sleuth. With the only clue that she has, she goes to Rome to locate the street of the Five Moons where she hopes to find a connection to the thieves. Well, of course she gets into trouble and is rescued by a "dangerously exciting young Englishman." Sir John Smythe is truly charming and the chemistry between he and Vicky is terrific. This is a lovely romantic mystery and the second book in the Vicky Bliss mystery series. Another great story by Elizabeth Peters who is also Barbara Michaels!

Strands of Love Samantha Calloway is desperately working to keep her farm from financial ruin. It’s the only thing she has left from her deceased family and she’s determined to make it a success at any cost.

Stormy Weather I loved Enemy Women, her civil war novel,so was thrilled to see she had written another book. I just finished reading and want to tell everyone who will listen to me to read Stormy Weather. The setting is harsh (1930s Texas during the drought and the Great Depression) but the writing is so lyrical and beautiful. The characters are fully developed and likeable. And the love story and tension she creates between the two is delicious agony for the reader. This was a reading experience where I had to stop often just to soak up the images she created.

Straight into Darkness While Kellerman is known for illuminating the orthodox practices of Judaism in her stories, this one focuses more on the grossly anti-Semitic climate of that period, obviously a precursor to the eventual holocaust of the ensuing decade. Details about the city and the events of that era reveal quite extensive research and travels, reflected early on in the author's acknowledgments. Our take was that while the story was darker than usual for this writer, the inherit suspense kept us reading rapidly, seeking the culmination of events and "whodunit". So while "Darkness" is indeed quite a departure from the norm for our likable author, we feel sure Kellerman fans will enjoy this outing, and that this her new novel will enjoy considerable success!

Storm Warning I was surprised at the depth of pain Tory felt for the death of her parents. The fact that she couldn't do anything about it ate at me. The made it her life's mission to make sure that didn't happen to anyone else. Along the way she found someone who will love her and cherish her. Very beautiful story.

Storm Warning (The 39 Clues, Book 9)

I think Linda Sue Park has done a great job in fleshing out the characters in the book and getting the reader ready for the final book. The depth and breadth of the charaters in this book make it the best of the bunch so far. The maturing of Dan and Amy is very evident in this book and it makes it a pleasure to read.

Stands a Shadow The Heart of the World series is an epic adventure that, through the lens of its vibrant and unique world and engaging characters, asks intriguing questions and illuminates the humanity at the core of both hero and villain. Stands a Shadow is the second book in the series.

Silent Echoes I started this without having read the first book in the series and while I don't think I really needed to read the first one, I probably should of just to get the background info on Tripp and Lexi and exactly was Zeus' Game was, but again, I don't think it was necessary. I never felt lost or confused as a lot of the info was stated again throughout the story.

Murder in Chelsea (Gaslight Mystery) I liked the growth of the relationships among all the characters. The good in the characters came out in the end, especially in the Brandt family. Sarah had to have good parents to be as smart, independent and caring as she is. The clues about the murders were well thought out. The victims were real characters who rated sympathy and understanding. The ending was very well done. Almost happily ever after but lots of room for more books about Sarah and Malloy.

Hidden Paradise The sex is explicit and frequent, but there's also a surprising amount of heart. I found myself weeping for sorrow and for joy at some points. It was unexpectedly cathartic and I'll definitely read it again.

Happy Mother's Day! Have some me-time this Mother's Day! A Bump Aisling’s his top employee, but with her prim exterior Gianluca has never noticed her. Then a wild and wanton night with the real Aisling means they are about to be bound together forever! A Baby When Francesco met Erin, they were wed within daysyet the marriage quickly fell apart...

Death's Witness Death's Witness is the debut novel for Paul Batista, criminal defense attorney and media pundit. The mystery, although easily solved, is filled with twist and turns, and Batista entertains the reader with an onslaught of red herrings to consider. Although the ending is somewhat predictable, this is overall a good read.

Death Message: A Novel of Suspense As techies scramble to trace the sender another photo arrives, and before long Thorne finds himself faced with an enemy capable of manipulating others into doing his dastardly deeds for him, and it starts to hit Thorne very close to home. In police lingo the phrase "death message" refers to telling someone that they have just lost a loved one. But, in this case, those messages are directed toward Thorne but why and by whom?

Death Magic After the events of the last book, Lily and Rule are in DC to testify before the powerful Senator Blixton and his committee on the events. Blixton is soon killed by means of 'Death Magic'. Ruben Brooks is accused of the murder and as Lily is too close to the case, she is relegated to a secondary role in the investigation. Lily has been having headaches and health issues since taking on hosting the Wythe mantle, and eventually has to step down from active duty.

Celestial Beginnings Being a descendant of a fallen angel, nephilim Malachi Starkman, is all about his duty in protecting mankind and preventing Satan’s army from growing any further. He leads a squad of talented warriors on this quest to preserve humanity, but as leader, he feels every aspect is his responsibility. After centuries of fighting, he is starting to feel burned out, and wondering if this is his sole purpose on Earth.

Bound by Prophecy

Twenty-two-year-old Aern is done watching his brother destroy the only thing that matters. He never wanted to take Morgan's place among council, never wanted to rule their hidden world. But when the key to the prophecy is found, a young girl named Brianna whom Morgan will destroy, Aern knows he has to take action. What he really wants is for things to go back to normal. But now he’s kidnapped a girl, and his brother's men are after him. His only hope is to join with the Division, but they have plans of their own, and it's the last thing Aern is willing to do. Emily just wants her sister back. She doesn't care about the prophecy, or know what's at stake. But when she goes after Aern, the truth of the matter uncoils, and Brianna isn't the only one who's in danger. Suddenly, they’re at the center of a secret war, and unless they can work together, they'll both have a sacrifice too big to make.

Alien in the House Alien in the House has a few heartbreaking moments, ones where I was close to tears seeing what Kitty has to deal with, but it is also chocked full of humour and I chuckled all the time as I was reading it. The story has even more twists and shocking revelations than I've come to expect from the series and although some of our questions have been answered things have been very nicely set up to carry on into the next book. I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on Alien Research to see Kitty and Jeff both settling into their new roles hopefully uncover who is behind the latest plots against the A-Cs. I just can't get enough of these books and I hope this is a series that will continue for a long time to come.

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena The result is a haunting and original look into many universal themes. Ramzan says, "We're beyond obligation. We wear clothes and speak, and create civilizations, and believe we are more than wolves. But inside us there is a word we cannot pronounce and that is who we are." Or is it? Rather than embrace Ramzan's view of the world, this book shines a spotlight on the true meanings of love and sacrifice, and the lengths we will go to connect and endure.

The Sky Beneath My Feet Lisa Samson's The Sky Beneath My Feet hooked me from page one. Meet Beth, a busy pastor's wife juggling responsibilities of wife and mom. In the midst of taking care of everyone and everything around her, she has lost herself. I immediately identified with the daily craze of the collision of church life and home life

Magician's End: Book Three of the Chaoswar Saga With this book fans of Fiest will rejoice as we are shown glimpses of the old master story teller back from the void but to say it was a total hit may be going that little bit to far hence only four stars.

The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein The other interesting aspect of this novel is the depiction of the romantic poets and their entourage: "Bysshe" Shelley features from the outset as a struggling and somewhat neurotic gadfly we meet Lord Byron somewhat later (a pompous, overbearing, spoilt fool) together with Mary Shelley herself (depicted far more sympathetically as the real artist amongst a bunch of dilettantes) and Byron's long-suffering physician/drug supplier, John Polidori.

Waking Dreams (The Soul's Mark) The characters are consistently the same individuals that we've come to love through Stoyanoff's work. Their emotions, actions, and reactions are true to form. As a reader, you also see how they have evolved into the characters that we see in the modern day and where they were a century ago. I also really appreciated the sneak peek into the creation and development of Willowberg into the town that Mitchell runs today.

The Tower I found the second book a bit tedious after an excellent first book in the series. But The Tower was a fitting end and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. I loved the way that different people's stories were intertwined and then all came

together at the end, sometimes with a surprising twist. I grew to like and symphathise with a lot of the characters in this book. I would certainly recommend this trilogy as a good read.

Thundering Luv Jewel has always been able to get the guy she wanted. The starting jock on the football team, the team captain on the basketball team, and the lead swimmer on the swim team. Problem is, she didn't find them the least bit exciting. Was she cold or a she-wolf for guys? Colin thought so, and he'd do anything to bring her down a peg or two. When these two collide on the sandy beach during their mixed up summer vacation, sparks fly, making this a summer neither will forget.

The Summer I Became a Nerd Recommended for fans of: comics LARPing/RPGs (or just the curious about them) contemporary stories about SFF stuff adorkable love interests fake love triangles secret identities minor SFF inside jokes.

The Spa Day A novella about Holly and her gift to herself - 3 days at a spa. It is right before Christmas and she receives many lovely treatments which make her feel pampered and special. During her time there, she has the opportunity to start evaluating her life. Mostly she considers, Clive, her jerk of a fiance and their lack of a relationship. One woman is someone she fears is her future if she continues the long distance love affair with Clive. The thought is appalling. She also meets one of the employees who allows her to see that there are people in the world who love and care for one another.

The Silver Dream: An InterWorld Novel I really enjoyed InterWorld: The Silver Dream. I enjoyed the bright little glimpses of other students and teachers, I liked the commentary on what life would be like if everyone you went to school with was you, and I liked Acacia and that even after the book she is still so much a mystery. The similarities between Joe/y and the Old Man also intrigue me, I'm sure there's more there than what has been revealed so far and I cant wait to read it.

The Serene Invasion

The Serene are an alien race. The Earth in 2025 is an ailing world, and the Serene an end to poverty and violence but not everyone supports the seemingly benign invasion. There are forces out there who wish to return to the bad old days, and will stop at nothing to oppose the Serene.

The Sentinel Mage (Cursed Kingdoms Trilogy) I think what I like best about it is the logic. The evil characters aren't evil for the sake of being evil - they behave in character with their backgrounds and desires. Nobody here is implausible, nobody is out of focus - they're all sharply drawn and seem believable. It's so rare these days to get that attention to realism in character personality building, and I love it.

The People's Will (Danilov Quintet 4) Turkmenistan 1881: Beneath the citadel of Geok Tepe sits a prisoner. He hasn't moved from his chair for two years, hasn't felt the sun on his face in more than fifty, but he is thankful for that. The city is besieged by Russian troops and soon falls. But one Russian officer has his own reason to be here. Colonel Otrepyev marches into the underground gaol, but for the prisoner it does not mean freedom, simply a new gaoler an old friend, now an enemy. They return to Russia to meet an older enemy still.

The Cursed (League of the Black Swan) I love the idea that Alyssa will bring all of them back, as the series will continue with Luke and Rio, and hopefully many of the wonderful characters we want to learn even more about. The Cursed is a wonderful start to a wonderful new series by Alyssa Day.

The Dante Conspiracy A professor is murdered but had no enemies at all. What was his secret? Italian detectives Perini and Lombardi investigate. It seems to have something to do with Dante's "Divine Comedy." While they try to puzzle it out, two other teams of investigators on the wrong side of the law are moving toward the answer and the prize. This is a clever plot, a race, with just the right amount of humor and intrigue.

Oberon's Dreams (The Godlanders War) I don't know how else to describe this novel except for... fun. My initial distaste of standard fantasy fare was washed away in the sheer rush and delight of the story and its characters. Pogue's writing is simple, quick, and personable, just right for a story that wants to do little more than entertain with its fantastical ideas and world that is, if seen before, certainly appreciated.

Predatory What happens when you take 4 of my favorite paranormal romance writers and put their novella length stories together in a book called Predatory...you get an magnificent read. Each story was fan-freakin'-tastic, riveting and long enough to suck you completely in. This anthology is a great way to try out each of these author's series, but for fans it gives you a grand snippet of adventures we've come to love. Page turning action, steamy romances and super hot alpha heroes Predatory hit the spot.

Metro Winds In these stories, anything is possible. A young man fulfills a dying wish. A girl discovers her destiny in the dark tunnels of the Metro. Another seeks her lost sister in a park where winter lasts forever. A writer pursues an ending to his story. A mother works magic to summon a true princess for her son. A lost man goes in search of his shadow. This is a world of desire and transformation, the real and the not real, from a queen of modern fantasy.

Natural Causes As the story moves along, McLean begins to suspect that not only are the killings part of a ritual, but that they may be supernatural in origin. He realizes that a 60 year old murder may be the key to solving the more recent murders.

Miss Me When I'm Gone The story then unfolds with excerpts from Gretchen's book, Tammyland, which combines the personal stories of female country music stars with Gretchen's own divorce. As Jamie begins to read Gretchen's second book, meant to feature the men of country music, Jamie realizes that the book is something entirely different, reaching back in Gretchen's past and the murder of her mother.

Maniacs: The Krittika Conflict I heard about this guy through Facebook, he writes the Battle Earth books. This one is much smaller in scope and more to my tastes of special forces dudes.

Love Proof (Laws of Attraction) (Volume 1) The main character, Sarah, is completely authentic and compelling. Smart, independent, quick witted, but not to such an extreme that she loses her vulnerability. The male lead, Joe, has all the requisite sex appeal, but also a history that that complicates and endears him to the reader. The legal and romantic plots are intertwined so perfectly, it's difficult to put the book down. Great mind candy.

Lord Kelvin's Machine (Langdon St. Ives) Deftly written by James P. Blaylock (a winner of the World Fantasy Award and the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award), Lord Kelvin's Machine is a fantastic steampunk saga set in Victorian London. Our intrepid hero, Langdon St. Ives, is devastated by murder and surrounded by mayhem in the midst of an uproar over (and battles to possess) a wondrous machine with the power to travel through Time itself. An astutely told science fiction adventure laced through and through with humanity, reflection, high escapades, drama, and coming to grips with the terrible specter of death, Lord Kelvin's Machine is enthusiastically recommended reading for all dedicated science fiction enthusiasts.

Kat, Incorrigible This is the type of book that makes me say words like "delightful" and "charming" in this affected and giggly tone. Readers who liked Marissa Doyle's Bewitching Season or Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's Sorcery and Cecelia will probably love Kat, Incorrigible. Kat has the same upbeat, spunky feel found in these books and is also set in Regency England.

Invisibility Stephen is used to invisibility. He was born that way. Invisible. Cursed. Elizabeth sometimes wishes for invisibility. When you’re invisible, no one can hurt you. So when her mother decides to move the family to New York City, Elizabeth is thrilled. It’s easy to blend in there.

Icons Overall, I HIGHLY recommend ICONS to anyone looking for a Dystopian fix with a different style of characters. They are awkward at times, but they are lovable complex teenagers trying to survive in an unlivable world. The novel is VERY different. Rough around the edges with its own unique spark.

Grail of the Summer Stars (Aetherial Tales) Warrington's plotting is tight and nothing is wasted. One is continually surprised, while reading Grail of the Summer Stars, as what seemed like throwaway details come back to make total sense and to tie in with the central plot. This is true both of elements introduced in this novel and of threads from the previous two as mentioned above, material from the earlier books is woven into this one, often in surprising ways.

Fragile Minds I read this in print version, one of a few books I picked up at a jumble sale. It is an interesting story based around a series of terrorist style attacks in London. The story is told through several eyes, a couple of the detectives involved and a woman destroyed by the death of her young son. Claudie gets mixed up in the attacks through her job as physio in the Royal Academy of Ballet. Struggling to cope after the death of her son, she suffers symptoms of post traumatic stress and, in the aftermath of a bombing that kills one of her colleagues, her world starts to fall apart all over again.

Dead Man's Deal: The Asylum Tales Gage is an interesting protagonist. Somewhat of a loner, his time spent in the Tower taught him not to form lasting attachments to anyone. Yet he has managed in spite of that to gather a group of friends who mean the world to him. He has to keep a low profile yet is constantly placing his life on the line. As a former warlock, he feels responsible for the horrors the Ivory Towers have inflicted on the human and supernatural world. He has absorbed their crimes and seeks to make amends in the best ways he can.

Dark Days (Black London Novels) The ending kind of hinted at the end of this series but than again the world is in shambles so I don't think I have seen the last of Pete and Jack. Which I will miss them when the time does come to an end. Dark Days is a kicking butt good time of a read!

Cut & Run (A Rachel Scott Adventure) The O'Malley case is very interesting and kept me anxiously anticipating what would happen next. I couldn't read fast enough to find out the truth behind the disappearance of Matt's wife and children. As more and more secrets are revealed, the case becomes even more puzzling. Fans of Harlan Coben or Linwood Barclay will appreciate the book's fast pace. The premise of a missing person's case as the main plot of each book makes for an exciting and suspenseful story.

Court Out Lauren is a successful criminal barrister. She likes to work, play and shop hard. When she lands the brief of a lifetime, the prosecution of a premiership footballer accused of murdering his wife, she knows that she’ll have to pull out all the stops to prove that she’s up to the challenge.

Consolidati Super creative and imaginative. The story is very engaging, read the whole thing in one weekend. Love the London imagery as well...

Close My Eyes When Geniver Loxley lost her daughter at birth eight years ago, her world stopped‌ and never fully started again. Mothers with strollers still make her flinch her love of writing has turned into a half-hearted teaching career and she and her husband, Art, have slipped into the kind of rut that seems inescapable. For Art, the solution is simple: Have another child to replace Beth. For Gen, the thought of replacing her first child feels cruel, nearly unbearable. A part of her will never let go of Beth, no matter how much she needs to move on.

Chantress One of my favorite relationships in Chantress was Lucy's friendship, and budding romance, with Nat. Nat is a scientist and very bookish and is, at first, quite distrustful of Lucy and her magic. This relationship is not easy for either of the characters, but, as a reader, I loved the tension between Lucy and Nat. I definitely am excited to see what happens between these two characters in future installments.

Click to Subscribe This book gave me warm fuzzy feelings all over! It has all the qualities I look for in a good story...humor, drama, romance. I was pretty much hooked from the very first page! The character development was excellent, the author did

a perfect job of giving you plenty of background information on our two main characters and made them easily relateable. The story flows perfectly without a dull moment to be seen. I really enjoyed L.M.'s writing style.

Boxer, Beetle With Boxer, Beetle, Ned Beauman joins the ranks of writers like T.C. Boyle or even Thomas Pynchon, displaying his ample talent for brewing history with cartoonish satire and serving it with a steady sleight of hand. He even throws in a Kafkaesque reference to The Metamorphosis and takes an Hitchcockian turn, inserting his own name into the mix (albeit a chat room sock-puppet). It's this playfulness and self-deprecation in a sense that is indicative of a successful artist.

Between the Lives Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ‘other’ life – a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she’s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she’s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

And They Called Her Spider The plot drew me in from the beginning, with Bartleby describing one of the Spider's recent murders that he had personally witnessed. The Spider was a young woman who exhibited superhuman speed and strength, and catching her would be no small feat. Bartleby and James made a great pair, reminiscent of another detective team of the era Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. The story was fast-paced and exciting as the two closed in on the Spider.

The 5th Wave Sometimes the best books are the hardest to talk about. I mean, I could go on for paragraphs about the structure of THE 5TH WAVE. The book jumps from narrator to narrator. The first hundred pages are spent with Cassie - short for Cassiopeia - and the book leaves her head as soon as she's in mortal danger. Point of view is used to obscure who is an alien, a human, or if there's a difference.

The Battered Heiress Blues The story was decent, but I was disappointed by the editing work. There were lots of spelling and grammatical errors, and a major mess with the gender of the dog - which changed from male to female several times over the same two or

three paragraphs. I know this sounds nit-picky, but those kinds of repeatedly sloppy writing and editing mistakes really distract me from getting truly absorbed in the story.

The Body in the Piazza: A Faith Fairchild Mystery To celebrate their wedding anniversary, intrepid caterer and sometime sleuth Faith Fairchild and her husband, the Reverend Tom Fairchild, are off to Italy for a vacation filled with exquisite indulgences—the art, the Chianti, the food, the Ferragamos! The plan is to spend a romantic weekend in Rome before heading to Tuscany for a stay at Cucina della Rossi, a cooking school founded by Faith's back-in-the-day assistant Francesca Rossi.

The Duchess of Drury Lane Passion, jealousy, scandal and betrayal – a true-life Regency Romance of the rise and fall of an extraordinary woman born into extraordinary times. Growing up in a poverty-stricken, fatherless household, Dorothy Jordan overcame her humble beginnings to become the most famous comic actress of her day. It was while performing on Drury Lane that Dorothy caught the eye of the Duke of Clarence, later to become King William IV. Her twenty-year relationship with the Duke was one of great happiness and domesticity, producing ten children. But ultimately, Dorothy’s generous nature was her undoing and she was to be cruelly betrayed by the man she loved.

The Barbed Crown: An Ethan Gage Adventure This installment of the William Dietrich's Ethan Gage adventure series should probably have had the same title as my review, "The Battle of Trafalgar," as that was the climactic event of the book, though there were a few other historical events covered in the book. "The Barbed Crown" strikes me as more of a publisher's decision, because anything to do with the life of Jesus creates an enormous crowd magnet, but the titular object played very little role in the whole of the book, and the episode with the crown of thorns is forced. It could have been called "The Brazen Head" or "The Coronation of Napoleon," as well, though the brazen head may be the focus and title of the next installment.

The Annals of Unsolved Crime Edward Jay Epstein has the marvelous capacity to believe that the world is potentially understandable, and that the tools for understanding are close enough to hand that anyone like him with a knack for research and expository writing can get to the bottom of things. Here, he selects a variety of mysteries, conundrums, and controversies from the Lincoln Assassination to the entrapment of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and concisely explains the state of the evidence in terms that are both sophisticated and lucid. You will come away from this book more richly informed, and with a point of view more open to multiple possibility. Highly recommended.

Taken by Storm (Give & Take)

MJ is sweet and forgiving and ultimately wins his hearts desire. It gets really hot up in there once Maddie gives in to her heart as well. I love the touch of ghost story the author includes in Taken by Storm. I also really hope we get more of Beck's story in his own book maybe.

The Lives of Tao The main strength of the novel is the easy wit and the camraderie between Roen and Tao. While initially their relationship is prickly, it develops into a deep, lasting friendship and brotherhood. Recommended for people who like sci fi humour with heart.

The House on Fortune Street This is a story about the varieties of love, but it is also a story about how "time and chance happeneth to us all." If Cameron hadn't come back to the tent at that exact moment, his passions would most likely have remained a secret forever Dara would not have been and therefore felt abandoned and Cameron would not have lost his first family.

Serving Victoria: Life in the Royal Household Rather than a biography of Victoria the Queen, this is a biography of a Court, with all its attendant courtiers and servants. The Victorian court was, in the words of the author, an odd mix of never ending house party and boarding school, of social ennui and regimentation. Above all, Victoria was adamant it would be respectable. So, was serving the Queen a penance or an honour? Was the devotion shown sincere? Using letters, diaries and journals, the author does an excellent job of unpicking the real thoughts from the public faces. The first half of this book is dominated by the Queen's ladies.

Silken Prey The behind-the-scenes shenanigans of the political class provide a grim reminder: power is not only a potent aphrodisiac it is a motive for murder. It's Davenport's job to unravel an ugly scenario of blackmail and murder without a scandal before an important election.

The Wild Medicine Solution: Healing with Aromatic, Bitter, and Tonic Plants English | ISBN: 1620550849 | 2013 | EPUB/MOBI | 328 pages | 2 MB/2 MB Restoring the use of wild plants in daily life for vibrant physical, mental, and spiritual health • Explains how 3 classes of wild plants--aromatics, bitters, and tonics--are uniquely adapted to work with our physiology because we coevolved with them • Provides simple recipes to easily integrate these plants into meals as well as formulas for teas, spirits, and tinctures • Offers practical examples of plants in each of the 3 classes, from aromatic peppermint to bitter dandelion to tonic chocolate As people moved into cities and suburbs and embraced modern medicine and industrialized food, they lost their connection to nature, in particular to the plants with which humanity coevolved. These plants are essential components of our physiologies--tangible reminders of cross-kingdom signaling--and key not only to vibrant physical health and prevention of illness but also to soothing and awakening the troubled spirit. Blending traditional herbal medicine with history, mythology, clinical practice, and recent findings in physiology and biochemistry, herbalist Guido Mase explores the three classes of plants necessary for the healthy functioning of our bodies and minds--aromatics, bitters, and tonics. He explains how bitter plants ignite digestion, balance blood sugar, buffer toxicity, and improve metabolism; how tonic plants normalize the functions of our cells and nourish the immune system; and how aromatic plants relax tense organs, nerves, and muscles and stimulate sluggish systems, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. He reveals how wild plants regulate our heart variability rate and adjust the way DNA is read by our cells, controlling the self-destructive tendencies that lead to chronic inflammation or cancer. Offering examples of ancient and modern uses of wild plants in each of the 3 classes--from aromatic peppermint to bitter dandelion to tonic chocolate--Mase provides easy recipes to integrate them into meals as seasonings and as central ingredients in soups, stocks, salads, and grain dishes as well as including formulas for teas, spirits, and tinctures. Providing a framework for safe and effective use as well as new insights to enrich the practice of advanced herbalists, he shows how healing “wild plant deficiency syndrome”--that is, adding wild plants back into our diets--is vital not only to our health but also to our spiritual development.

Considering the millions of people who are out of work or unhappily employed, how can that be? What are job seekers doing to turn off employers? And what is it that employers want but aren't finding? Leading career expert and syndicated columnist Andrea Kay asked employers one simple question: Why didn't you hire the last ten people you interviewed? What it came down to, every time, wasn't a matter of skills or experience, but how applicants seemed based on what they said or did. From lack of preparation, to pushiness, to a subtly defensive attitude, it's the simple behaviors prospective employees exhibit before, during, and after interviews that stand between them and job offers. Based on candid insights from real-life employers, and featuring a foreword by Richard Nelson Bolles, bestselling author of "What Color Is Your Parachute?", this book helps job hunters take control of how they come across to the people in charge of hiring. From "20 Things You Should Never Do" to a "Would You Hire You?" test, "This Is How to Get Your Next Job" helps readers show hiring managers who they are and why they're the perfect fit for the job they seek.

We Saw Spain Die: Foreign Correspondents in the Spanish Civil War 2009 | 436 Pages | ISBN: 1845299469 | EPUB | 3 MB The war in Spain and those who wrote at first hand of its horrors. From 1936 to 1939 the eyes of the world were fixed on the devastating Spanish conflict that drew both professional war correspondents and great writers. Ernest Hemingway, John Dos Passos, Josephine Herbst, Martha Gellhorn, W. H. Auden, Stephen Spender, Kim Philby, George Orwell, Arthur Koestler, Cyril Connolly, André Malraux, Antoine de Saint Exupéry and others wrote eloquently about the horrors they saw at first hand. Together with many great and now largely forgotten journalists, they put their lives on the line, discarding professionally dispassionate approaches and keenly espousing the cause of the partisans. Facing censorship, they fought to expose the complacency with which the decision-makers of the West were appeasing Hitler and Mussolini. Many campaigned for the lifting of non-intervention, revealing the extent to which the Spanish Republic had been betrayed. Peter Preston’s exhilarating account illuminates the moment when war correspondence came of age.

The Paranormal Equation English | ISBN: 1601632282 | 2012 | EPUB | 256 pages | 2,4 MB Most of us think science is incapable of explaining supernatural phenomena. This would include everything from ghosts and communication with the dead to extrasensory perception (ESP), precognition, and telekinesis. Scientists are generally highly skeptical of the existence of such phenomena because of the lack of the rigorous documentation that science requires. Nevertheless, many great scientists have believed--and do believe--in the supernatural. The Paranormal Equation presents an argument for the existence of supernatural phenomena based on the mathematics and science discovered during the last century. It also explains why supernatural phenomena must exist if the universe satisfies certain conditions--conditions which are accepted by many working scientists. The Paranormal Equation explores such questions as: * How can we distinguish between the truly unknown and the supernatural? * How have scientists attempted to study the supernatural? * What are the rational reasons for believing in the supernatural? * Which hypotheses about the universe mandate the existence of supernatural phenomena? Anyone interested in how science is beginning to understand and even explain the seemingly unexplainable will want to read this fascinating new title.

Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids English | ISBN: 0345507975 | 2009 | EPUB | 256 pages | 3 MB Today’s busier, faster, supersized society is waging an undeclared war . . . on childhood. As the pace of life accelerates to hyperspeed–with too much stuff, too many choices, and too little time–children feel the pressure. They can become anxious, have trouble with friends and school, or even be diagnosed with behavioral problems. Now, in defense of the extraordinary power of less, internationally renowned family consultant Kim John Payne helps parents reclaim for their children the space and freedom that all kids need, allowing their children’s attention to focus and their individuality to flourish. Based on Payne’s twenty year’s experience successfully counseling busy families, Simplicity Parenting teaches parents how to worry and hover less–and how to enjoy more. For those who want to slow their children’s lives down but don’t know where to start, Payne offers both inspiration and a blueprint for change. • Streamline your home environment. The average child has more than 150 toys. Here are tips for reducing the amount of toys, books, and clutter–as well as the lights, sounds, and general sensory overload that crowd the space young imaginations need in order to grow. • Establish rhythms and rituals. Predictability (routines) and transparency (knowing the day’s plan) are soothing pressure valves for children. Here are ways to ease daily tensions, create battle-free mealtimes and bedtimes, and tell if your child is overwhelmed. • Schedule a break in the schedule. Too many activities may limit children’s ability to motivate and direct themselves. Learn how to establish intervals of calm in your child’s daily torrent of constant doing–and familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of organized sports and other “enrichment” activities. • Scale back on media and parental involvement. Back out of hyperparenting by managing your children’s “screen time” to limit the endless and sometimes scary deluge of information and stimulation. Parental hovering is really about anxiety; by doing less and trusting more, parents can create a sanctuary that nurtures children’s identity, well-being, and resiliency as they grow–slowly–into themselves. A manifesto for protecting the grace of childhood, Simplicity Parenting is an eloquent guide to bringing new rhythms to bear on the lifelong art of parenting.

Napalm: An American Biography English | March 4, 2013 | ISBN: 0674073010 | ISBN-13: 9780674073012 | 352 pages | PDF | 2,8 MB Napalm, incendiary gel that sticks to skin and burns to the bone, came into the world on Valentine’s Day 1942 at a secret Harvard war research laboratory. On March 9, 1945, it created an inferno that killed over 87,500 people in Tokyo—more than died in the atomic explosions at Hiroshima or Nagasaki. It went on to incinerate sixty-four of Japan’s largest cities. The Bomb got the press, but napalm did the work. After World War II, the incendiary held the line against communism in Greece and Korea—Napalm Day led the 1950 counter-attack from Inchon—and fought elsewhere under many flags. Americans generally applauded, until the Vietnam War. Today, napalm lives on as a pariah: a symbol of American cruelty and the misguided use of power, according to anti-war protesters in the 1960s and popular culture from Apocalypse Now to the punk band Napalm Death and British street artist Banksy. Its use by Serbia in 1994 and by the United States in Iraq in 2003 drew condemnation. United Nations delegates judged deployment against concentrations of civilians a war crime in 1980. After thirty-one years, America joined the global consensus, in 2011. Robert Neer has written the first history of napalm, from its inaugural test on the Harvard College soccer field, to a Marine Corps plan to attack Japan with millions of bats armed with tiny napalm time bombs, to the reflections of Phan Thi Kim Phuc, a girl who knew firsthand about its power and its morality.

Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition English | May 7, 2013 | ISBN: 1937856240 | ISBN-13: 9781937856243 , 9781937856250 | 352 pages | EPUB | 2,4 MB What happens when you eat an apple? The answer is vastly more complex than you imagine. Every apple contains thousands of antioxidants whose names, beyond a few like vitamin C, are unfamiliar to us, and each of these powerful chemicals has the potential to play an important role in supporting our health. They impact thousands upon thousands of metabolic reactions inside the human body. But calculating the specific influence of each of these chemicals isn’t nearly sufficient to explain the effect of the apple as a whole. Because almost every chemical can affect every other chemical, there is an almost infinite number of possible biological consequences. And that’s just from an apple. Nutritional science, long stuck in a reductionist mindset, is at the cusp of a revolution. The traditional “gold standard” of nutrition research has been to study one chemical at a time in an attempt to determine its particular impact on the human body. These sorts of studies are helpful to food companies trying to prove there is a chemical in milk or prepackaged dinners that is “good” for us, but they provide little insight into the complexity of what actually happens in our bodies or how those chemicals contribute to our health. In The China Study, T. Colin Campbell (alongside his son, Thomas M. Campbell) revolutionized the way we think about our food with the evidence that a whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest way to eat. Now, in Whole, he explains the science behind that evidence, the ways our current scientific paradigm ignores the fascinating complexity of the human body, and why, if we have such overwhelming evidence that everything we think we know about nutrition is wrong, our eating habits haven’t changed. Whole is an eye-opening, paradigm-changing journey through cutting-edge thinking on nutrition, a scientific tour de force with powerful implications for our health and for our world.

Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why The World Needs A Green Revolution - and How We Can Renew Our Global Future English | 2009 | ISBN: 0312428928 | ISBN-13: 9780312428921 , 9780141918501 | 516 pages | EPUB | 2,5 MB Thomas L. Friedman's phenomenal number-one bestseller The World is Flat has helped millions of readers see the world in a new way. In this essential new book, Friedman takes a fresh and provocative look at two of the biggest challenges we face today: the global environmental crisis and America's surprising loss of focus and national purpose since 9/11. It is a groundbreaking account of where we stand now, and he shows us how the solutions to these two big problems are linked -- how we can restore the world and revive America at the same time. Friedman explains how global warming, rapidly growing populations, and the astonishing expansion of the world's middle class through globalization have produced a planet that is 'hot, flat, and crowded'. In just a few years, it will be too late to fix things -- unless there is a worldwide effort to replace our wasteful, inefficient energy practices with a strategy for clean energy, energy efficiency, and conservation that Friedman calls Code Green. This is a great challenge, Friedman explains, but also a great opportunity, and one that we cannot afford to miss. He argues that this cannot happen without American commitment and leadership. In vivid, entertaining chapters, Friedman makes it clear that the green revolution we need is like no revolution the world has seen. It will be the biggest innovation project in history; it will be hard, not easy; and it will change everything, from what you put into your car to what you see on your electric bill. But the payoff will be more than just cleaner air. It will inspire us to summon all the intelligence, creativity, boldness and concern for the common good that are our greatest human resources. Hot, Flat, and Crowded is classic Thomas L. Friedman: fearless, incisive, forward-looking, and rich in surprising common sense about the challenge -- and the promise -- of the future. Thomas L. Friedman is a world-renowned author and journalist for The New York Times. He has won the Pulitzer Prize three times, and is the author of From Beirut to Jerusalem, which won both the National Book Award and the Overseas Press Club Award in 1989, The Lexus and the Olive Tree, one of the best selling business books in 1999, and the winner of the 2000 Overseas Press Club Award for best nonfiction book on foreign policy, Longitudes and Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11, and The World Is Flat, which was given the first Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.

Catastrophe: The Story of Bernard L. Madoff, the Man Who Swindled the World English | ISBN: 1597776408 | edition 2009 | PDF | 294 pages | 10 MB With his arrest on Dec. 11, 2008, the world first learned that Wall Street trader and former NASDAQ chairman Bernard Madoff was allegedly running the largest Ponzi scheme in history, a $50 billion scam constructed over decades. Husband and wife writing team the Strobers (Billy Graham, The Nixon Presidency) set out to discover "what sort of person could have coldly stolen from those who had entrusted him... in many instances, with their life savings?" Born in 1938, Madoff was an unmemorable student who, in his mid-twenties, got into investing with $5000. His rags-toriches story helped him become one of the most trusted men in the financial world, delivering fantastic returns to clients like Kevin Bacon, Stephen Spielberg, the Fairfield Fund, a wide range of Jewish philanthropies, and countless other individual investors. Put together in less than three months, this early account depends largely on media and internet stories, supplemented by 25 interviews with those who knew Madoff. Though the Strobers raise many questions that can't yet be answered (how Madoff evaded regulators, whether he had confederates, etc.), their study of a charming alleged con man is compelling, can't-make-this-stuff-up reading.

VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00 to Lose Weight and Restore Your Health . . . for Good English | April 30, 2013 | ISBN: 0385344740 | ISBN-13: 9780385344746 , 9780385344753 | 288 pages | EPUB | 2,9 MB

“I live full-time in the world of omnivores, and I’ve never wanted to leave. But the Standard American Diet (yes, it’s SAD) got to me as it gets to almost everyone in this country.” Six years ago, an overweight, pre-diabetic Mark Bittman faced a medical directive: adopt a vegan diet or go on medication. He was no fan of a lifelong regimen of pills, but as a food writer he lived—and worked—to eat. So neither choice was appealing. His solution was a deal with himself. He adopted a diet heavy in vegetables, fruits, and grains by following a healthy vegan diet (no meat, dairy, or processed foods) all day. After 6:00 p.m. he’d eat however he wanted, though mostly in moderation. Beyond that, his plan involved no gimmicks, scales, calorie counting, or point systems. And there were no so-called forbidden foods—he ate mostly home-cooked meals that were as varied and satisfying as they were delicious, but he dealt with the realities of the office and travel and life on the run as best he could. He called this plan Vegan Before 6:00 (VB6 for short), and the results were swift and impressive. Best of all, they proved to be lasting and sustainable over the long haul. Bittman lost 35 pounds and saw all of his blood numbers move in the right direction. Using extensive scientific evidence to support his plan, the acclaimed cookbook author and food policy columnist shows why his VB6 approach succeeds when so many other regimens not only fail, but can actually lead to unwanted weight gain. He then provides all the necessary tools for making the switch to a “flexitarian” diet: lists for stocking the pantry, strategies for eating away from home in a variety of situations, pointers for making cooking on a daily basis both convenient and enjoyable, and a complete 28-day eating plan showing VB6 in action. Finally, Bittman provides more than 60 recipes for vegan breakfasts, lunches, and snacks, as well as non-vegan dinners that embrace the spirit of a vegetable- and grain-forward diet. If you’re one of the millions who have thought of trying a vegan diet but fear it’s too monotonous or unfamiliar, or simply don’t want to give up the foods you love to eat, VB6 will introduce a new, flexible, and quite simply better way of eating you can really live with . . . for life.
