Zero Day All in all, it's a great read. If you want to get nit-picky, there are enough typos to be annoying - as is the case with almost every novel I read these days, including those by big name authors such as Stephen King and John Grisham. These are little things, such as "then" when it should have been "than" or missing punctuation. Some are the types of mistakes that get introduced in the editing process. Darn, how I wish these publishers would let me proofread these books before they go to print (hint, hint).

Wild Nights!: Stories About the Last Days of Poe, Dickinson, Twain, James, and Hemingway While her stories of Dickinson and James are equally fabulous pieces, she truly outdoes herself in her depiction of Hemingway, in his later life, married to wife number four, describing his suicidal ideations and attempts in a highly autobiographical tone, with a truly polished `Hemingway' manner that only a true expert in the writings of the man and the history of the man, could conjure eloquent execution of another author's writing style, while still keeping within her inner framework of the psychological school of writing. She analyzes and exposits the thoughts of that old and famous mind in her story, truly creating a manuscript that is worthy of Hemingway himself, and perhaps if the reader was unaware that it was not written by Hemingway, such a distinction might not ever be made, so fine is her imitative authorship and literary craftmanship. This truly is a classic piece of JCO's writing talent and should be highly prized by JCO readers and literary students of all types, considering the 5 authors she has depicted. It truly is a fine work of creativity, which should be read and even studied for the things that Joyce finds within the minds and the hearts and the words of these great literary figures.

The Winter Rose This is a fabulous book with larger than life characters. It is satisfying in its ability to bring the reader into the story and it will make you care deeply for every person and situation. It is indeed a tour de force, and one I can wholeheartedly recommend to those who love family sagas, historical fiction, and plain good storytelling. Highly, highly recommended.

Water Sleeps: A Novel of the Black Company Following up on the storyline as established in She is the Darkness, Cook really gets back into character (so to speak) by duplicating the style he used in White Rose. Told from both first person and third person perspective, this book involves the reader in a plot of intrigue, deception, and general mayhem, relying on the reader's intuition and understanding of previous events, evoking thoughts seldom generated by other authors of this genre.

The Y Factor

Just finished this a little while ago and I thought it was a wonderful read! The characters are realistic, I know people in real life like the human characters in here. The alien characters are well written to accent their alien-ness. The story is excellent. Just an all around entertaining book. I would recommend it to every SF fan.

The Viognier Vendetta: A Wine Country Mystery The fifth book in the series brings Lucie Montgomery to Washington DC during the cherry blossom season to meet up with an old friend, Rebecca Natele. But this meeting wasn't the spur of the moment unplanned event that Lucie was expecting. Something was definitely up and when Rebecca suddenly disappears with her clothes found neatly folded in a rowboat floating down the Potomac, Lucie wonders if it was actually suicide. This is Washington after all and when you mix politics, scandal, billionaires and a missing antique silver wine cooler looted by British soldier's before they burned the White House during the War of 1812, you just never know who is telling the truth and which lie might actually have a partial truth to it. Ellen Crosby adds the right amount of history to her books to both entertain and educate the reader. You are left feeling that Ms Crosby had done her research and you come away with more than a nice mystery, you also are left with a bit of history and a little more knowledge then you started with.

The Tea Rose

There is so much more to this novel, however, but I don't want to ruin the fun for readers to discover for themselves. There are many supporting characters that add complexity and texture to this story, and Jennifer Donnelly has done an exceptional job of bringing them all to life. The writing is concise and the perfect balance of dialogue and description. I loved every page, especially since there was always something new and exciting happening. The best book I've read so far this year, and most likely one that will be hard to top.

The Tattooed Girl I couldn't put this book down. The writing is so beautiful and full of prose that it kept me turning the pages. The story is something I'd come to expect from Oates. Some of the dark and disarming passages would make excellent book discussions. This isn't just a story about hate, it is also a story centered on the layers of the characters' personalities and the inner workings of the soul. Oates delves once again on domestic abuse here, but she always adds a whole unique perspective to the aforementioned subject matter. I love how the author compared the things that go on in Seigl's novel with the things that occur to him in the real world. Some of those scenes moved me. Once again, Joyce Carol Oates has illustrated the reason why I love her writing so much.

The Rebel Prince This book closed out the trilogy very nicely. I never felt things were too rushed, the novel for the most part went along at a very agreeable pace. I didn't much like the very end, however, I would have liked to know more of the final scene rather than it just cutting and going to five years later. But still it was a nice resolution, and a thrilling novel. Yes, it's true that the entire thing happened in the single camp, and there wasn't a whole lot of action these weren't the drivers of the story though. It's the characters that really drive this story, and if you've missed that you've missed a great deal. Mrs. Kiernan has done a wonderful job of constructing endearing, genuine, and believable characters. Yes, they have their quirks, but that seams to make them all the better. In all, I think it was a great story, and would recommend it to anyone.

The Murder Stone It is tightly plotted, intricate and clever with some excellent suspense. The clues are all there to be found, but I didn't put it together until it was presented. Ms. Penny is highly skilled in bringing together all these elements into one enormously enjoyable and satisfying read.

The Night Crew Unlike most of the Prey material, this book was a bit more mystery, a bit less thriller. In mysteries, the question is what did happen, while in thrillers, the question is only what will happen. And Sandford plays fair. He provides enough clues for educated conjecture without making it easy on the reader to guess the answer.

The Morning Gift This is in the top five most beauitful books I have ever read. I was so incredibly happy with the world after I read this. There's also a passage in here about young men and war that I read it over and over until I ended up copying it and placing it on my desk. Eva Ibbotson is AMAZING and don't worry when you are approaching the end: there is ALWAYS a happy ending with Ibbotson.

The Manning Grooms Debbie writes the books from her heart to the readers heart and her books are simply wonderful. I have read approximately 25 of her wonderful warm and friendly books and just want more and more of them. The characters are people you wish you lived near and had as friends. The towns and neighborhoods she writes about are the all American dream towns. If our towns were even close to the towns she writes about this would be a better world.

The Joy Luck Club I spent much of my reading time flipping back to earlier chapters to remind myself which daughter was born of which mother so that I could see how the mother's experiences and upbringing had an effect on her daughter's life. There were also a few mother/daughter story lines that I felt could have been explored more in depth and that's why I think presenting them as short stories would have been more effective.

The Infinite Sea (Chaos Chronicles) I like to read a series like The Chaos Chronicles in a reasonably short time span order to keep closely in mind the character development and the story line(s). I usually aggregate all the books in a series before I start the first book. Over a 3 week period, I first read Neptune Crossing (4 stars), then Strange Attractors (3 stars), and finally The Infinite Sea (4 stars, but could have been 5 stars).

The Informant This is a fun read but definitely one with a high body count I didn't take a full tally, but including flashbacks, it easily gets into the dozens. The Informant is reminiscent of the Donald Westlake/Richard Stark series of Parker novels as it deals with a totally professional criminal who will stop at nothing to achieve his goal yet never goes out of his way to hurt an innocent person (but also doesn't allow anyone to get in his way). But unlike the Parker books, the Butcher's Boy is not really a series character, so you can't feel assured he'll live to the end. What does happen at the end? You'll have to read this to find out.

The House of Lost Souls What is evil? Is it something to be teased, bantered with, exploited? This is heady territory and Cottam never underestimates his subject or the dangerous psychological terrain he explores, coincidental deaths, a lost boy, the nurturing of generational evil, birthed by war, nourished by decadence. Madness flickers around the edges as one chapter leads to the next, deeper into an inevitable confrontation. With the same authority of Dan Simmons's Carrion Comfort, this novel explores the nature of ancient evil, dark forces unleashed upon an unsuspecting world and one man's reckoning with his soul.

The Hanged Man's Song This is a very good book. This is an intelligent book. This book is well written, and most of all, I liked it. It repays the time spent reading it with enjoyment. There are few higher compliments in fiction.

The Gravedigger's Daughter The Gravedigger's Daughter is an expansive portrait of American life from one of our most agile living storytellers. Oates may lose a reader or two with her opening ruminations on poverty and family structure for inland immigrants,

but those who read on will be rewarded with a challenging drama of fortune and identity in America. In the end, you may love or hate this book, but it is hard not to admire it.

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth: Popularity, Quirk Theory, and Why Outsiders Thrive After High School I can confidently say, with this new book and the others I have read (The Overachievers & Pledged), Alexandra Robbins is one of the first people I know who has poignantly identified and openly discussed struggles in teens and young adults lives. I grew up in a very competitive area academically and socially. I was insecure loner who desperately tried to fit in, but always came up short. I can completely relate to the stories of the teens in this book. Their backgrounds and experiences all have things I'm sure everyone can identify with. Alexandra also does an excellent job of supplementing these stories with psychological and sociological data and experiments. This is an excellent read, and one that I found therapeutic. As an young adult and college student, I definitely have noticed that the quirks and oddities I used to be ashamed of, are things that I'm appreciated for now, and that I fully embrace as an adult.

The Fool's Run You have to suspend belief somewhat as it is easy for the reader to guess what is going to happen to the characters in the book early on - but in a way this adds to the suspense of the book as you keep wanting the characters to wake up and catch on to what seems obvious to the reader.

This book has a bit of a nostalgic touch to it, as many of the compter terms and equipment talked about in the book are out of date.

The Empress File This author is very talented. Kidd and LuEllen are back in the saddle again (read The Fool's Run first). The plot was well thought out and consistent. The action keeps drawing the reader along. Hopefully, there will be more of this series (can two books make a series?). More of a con game than a mystery thriller, this book and the Fool's Run are just as good as the Prey series.

The Door to Lost Pages There are many other mystical/mythical elements to the tales, some of them rather new-agey for my liking. (But my tolerance is low, and there wasn't so much that it was off-putting.) But those stories, some of them, were pretty "out there" and weird. This is another thing that can be off-putting to some readers and appealing to others. The stories contained a provocative mix of stark realism and fantasy, innocence and experience. Do know going in that there are repeated references to substance use and abuse. Additionally, there are graphic depictions of a broad spectrum of sexuality, some of it unconventional. What I'll say is that I think Mr. Lalumiere showed restraint and didn't get too carried away with the weirdness. His writing is very strong, and the imagery was vivid and interesting. Interesting. That's a word I returned to time and time again while trying to describe this book to a friend. It seems like such a bland word, but I'm stuck with it. There was nothing bland about this book. And there are worse things than being "interesting." And if I can't ever find the door to Lost Pages myself, at the very least I hope to find more of these stories.

Swords & Dark Magic: The New Sword and Sorcery Swords and Dark Magic is a must-have for fellow sword & sorcery fans and just the thing to support our cause. For readers new to S&S, you won't find a better introduction and it's the perfect book to round out your fantasy collection.

The Alchemist in the Shadows Mr Pevel is creating a stunning series that mixes plot and style, sword and sorcery, fine dining and fiery dragons. He's clearly got a knack for the convoluted intrigue of the period, but resists the urge to let indulgent detail stand in the way of telling a great story. The Alchemist in the Shadows is the sort of crazily-fun, laugh-out-loud adventure that makes you want to fence with your own shadow, and practice witty repartee in front of the mirror. Speaking a reader, the more of these books that exist, the happier I am.

The 13th As a reader of horror, I would say The 13th is easily among the top five best reads of the last two years. Filled with explicit sex and gore, yet balanced with sympathetic characters, I had a visceral response to the climactic rescue scene and the heartbreaking ending. Excellent choice for hardcore horror fans.

Sudden Prey Sudden Prey, as usual, made me stop in the middle of a chapter, and say aloud, "no, no: that can't happen!" Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong, and I give all the credit in the world to 'John Sandford' for getting me involved enough to care about the characters he creates.

Stupid and Contagious Crane's writing is full of pop culture and music references - I wish I listened to a Caprice Crane playlist while I read and the humor is extra dry. The chapters alternate between Heaven and Brady's perspectives, and Crane does a great job getting in Brady's head. So many female romance/chick-lit authors write from what we all wish was a man's perspective, but Crane seems to really nail what this guy really is thinking, scary though it may be. The snappy

dialogue and the honest interactions between Heaven and Brady come together to make this book a wickedly fun read.

Strange Attractors: Volume Two of the 'The Chaos Chronicles' For space opera, though, this is fairly good stuff. Intriguing new worlds (or, at least, environments) are explored and you never know what will turn up around the next corner. There's a fair amount of action and some interesting aliens. It wasn't deep, but it was fun and it held my interest. If good space opera is what you want, give this series a try.

Sleeping With the Agent I gave it a four because of the inclusion of other characters that were more interesting than the leads. Lily never seemed to catch on to the fact that Reed came into this assignment with every intention of killing her. Color me crazy but that would be a relationship breaker to me.

Sky Masters I was at the height in flight enthusiast hobby. Very sophisticated words which Brown accurately wrote the story. I felt myself hearing someone speaking from the communication channel during the flight also I could feel I was sitting next to Patrick Mc Lanahan and wondering around the board-flight panel of B2 stealth bomber. I did not realize the technology was so sophisticated in the story and a bit hard to understand. But then time was needed to read until I enjoyed the story through the high blow ending. Brilliant!

Silent Howl Rynn Murphy is a werewolf and she is in a state of bliss?her junkie parents are in recovery for their drug addiction. Her Grandfather, Pops, suffering from Alzheimer’s has settled into a nursing home in Utah. And she has just witnessed the bonding ceremony of her friends, Nexi and Kyden from the Otherworld. With her mate, Briggs by her side, life can’t get any better…

Shoulder the Sky

The second installment in the (what I'm calling the Reavley series) was, for me, both compelling and disappointing. Compelling because, as usual, Ms Perry does a fantastic job of bringing to life the horrors of trench warfare during WWI, and making us feel the pain, sorrows and fears of the men and women who were at the front. However, while these sections of the "Shoulder the Sky" were really absorbing and mesmerizing, the whole mystery-intrigue subplot of discovering the identity of Peacemaker (the man responsible for the murders of the Reavley parents) and exposing his mad megalomaniacal plan to carve up the world between the Germans and the English, really played second fiddle to the horrors of war subplot. And for an avid mystery reader, this can be rather disappointing. I rather enjoyed all the ruminating that Joseph (the military chaplain at the Front) and his friends go into while they are trying to make these brash young war journalists (who all seem to be antiwar and who all seem to have some personal agenda) understand that while one may not want a war, sometimes fighting for an ideal is something that one must do however, for most readers who are familiar with the works of the authors and poets of the period, much of this is old ground. And truthfully speaking, I had bought the book more for the mystery-intrigue subplot. So from that standpoint, I was a little disappointed. However, "Shoulder the Sky" is a well written book, full of wonderfully sketched and realised characters (getting to know the Reavley siblings more intimately was a real treat), that poignantly deals with the realities and horrors of war. So that even though I was disappointed that the murder-intrigue subplot played second fiddle this time around, I'd still vote "Shoulder the Sky" as a good 4 star read.

Sarum: The Novel of England The creation of Stonehenge will invade your imagination. Christianity comes and the Salisbury Cathedral is a result. Lives and loves of men and women with their triumphs and disappointments evolve against the parade of ages kings and their wars and kingdoms, plagues, revolutions, until we get to Queen Victoria and an age that developed faster than ever. The reader gets the impression of a snowball rolling downhill time begins with few people and slower development but one bit of progress inspires 30 more and on it goes, bigger and faster ad infinitum. Rutherford's research is thorough but it doesn't impede his story. With narrative under strict control, his style is clear, descriptive and tight. Relationships wax and wane through the generations as families grow and change with the times. Rutherford has said about this book that he admires James Michener and deliberately set out to accomplish for England what Michener did for Hawaii, Texas and others. I think he did it better.

Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse

Excellent work by Mr. Rawles. In it he explores the possibilities and what ifs of a total collapse of the civilized world that we have come to know and upon which we depend. Imagine, if you will, that the economy spins out of control and takes civilized society with it. Imagine this event making the Great Depression look like a walk in the park. How would one survive or thrive during such a chaotic experience? Can it be done alone? What are the real problems and issues that might need to be overcome? Mr. Rawles novel explores those possibilites. His information is well presented. Obviously a lot of thought and research went into this novel. It reads more like a contingency plan and less like some escapist fantasy. It beats any sci-fi novel hands down. I strongly recommend "Patriots" to anyone who's ever wondered what would happen should the day come when they dialed 911 and nobody answered.(Remember Hurricane Andrew and the LA Riots?) Read "Patriots" and find out. It is definitely time well spent. However, let me offer a word of warning. Pick up "Patriots" and you won't want to put it down until its finished!

My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business: A Memoir Told in a rambling, conversational tone, this book is very readable and easy to get into. I also think that it illustrates that Van Dyke is one of those guys that can be described as 'what you see is what you get'. He comes across as a very nice person who is very easy to relate to.

One Wicked Sin Irish Baron Ethan Ryder was a mercenary in Napoleon's cavalry before he was captured by the English. An illegitimate son of a duke, Ethan is on honor-bound parole. He offers Lottie the position of being his mistress, which

she accepts as even the houses of ill reputes reject her. However, Lottie may be outrageous in her behavior, but she is no fool. Something is not quite right with her employer who seems to be using her as a facade, but for what she has no idea nor is she sure she wants to know as she fears the street would be her next domicile. This is an excellent Scandalous Women of the Ton saga (see Whisper of Scandal) as love is not enough especially when trust is non existent and betrayal seems everywhere. Fast-paced, Regency romance fans will want to know the One Wicked Sin between the mercenary and the divorcee and whether they will fly away together.

Neptune Crossing (Chaos Chronicles) I think this is a great book, because Carver is a good storyteller. The three books in this series (soon to be a fourth) are interesting due to the characters and the universe they inhabit. It reminds me of the Roche World Series (Robert Forward), somewhat Heinleinesqe, and yet it is all his own. I think you will find books two and three in the series are a bit better, but this first novel will get you interested!

Missing Mom Nikki discovers how her grandmother and father actually died, and that her mother had suffered through an awful childhood and a broken heart as a young girl. Gwen's tireless efforts to make others happy was her desperate way of staying above it all, floating like a "feather" above the griminess of her life. Seen in this light, Nikki can finally accept her mother's outward perfection. This is a special book for mothers and daughters, but beware of recommending it to anyone who has recently lost a mom. Oates' descriptions of grief are spot on. I highly recommend this book to anyone who still has a mom you'll appreciate her more for having read it.

Midnight Sons Volume 3: Falling for Him/Ending in Marriage/Midnight Sons and Daughters Debbie Macomber fans will be delighted with this book. Three novellas for the price of one. The third story tells what happens when the children in the first story of the Midnight Sons books grow up. If you liked the first two volumes in the Midnight Sons trilogy, this one is a must read.

These two stories make up "Midnight Sons volume 2 by Debbie Macomber and it was pretty good. I still like the stories local of Hard Luck Alaska, were the women are few but for those who do come they find men ready to love and car for them. Overall, this was a good book and I am sorry that the series wasn't longer.

Midnight Sons Volume 1: Brides for Brothers/The Marriage Risk The latest Lakeshore Chronicles (see SNOWFALL AT WILLOW LAKE, DOCKSIDE, THE WINTER LODGE and SUMMER AT WILLOW LAKE) is a fabulous lighthearted romantic romp. Susan Wiggs cleverly combines humor with a strong cast working through a difficult situation as life after striking out Kim has thrown two splitters at Bo just when he is about to join the Yankees.

King Dork "King Dork" is funnier, more honest and better written than just about anything I've read in years. Frank Portman finds that Salinger guy, grinds his head in the gravel & makes the disillusioned clever kid once again safe for literature. Plus, the band names are fantastic, and there's a whole history of rock revealed in the pages.

Indefensible The second Kate Lange mystery is another page-turning thriller. In Indefensible Kate must defend a senior partner in her law firm after he is accused of murdering his ex-wife - and the supposed eye-witness is his fifteen year old son. Three dimensional characters, including two true to life teenagers, and the unique Halifax setting make this a page turner. I read it cover to cover in one day.

In the Moon of Red Ponies: A Billy Bob Holland Novel Burke constructs a folksy tale of honorable men versus miscreants in a setting as close to the primitive origins of the West as is possible to find today. Like the clever populist nursery rhymes of old England, political tracts in the guise of children's stories, Burke cloaks his morality play in the costumes of cowboys, FBI agents and mercenaries. When Billy Bob Holland, attorney and ex-Texas Ranger, undertakes the defense of a local Indian, Johnny American Horse, the case appears simple. But Detective Darrell McComb pushes the confrontation up another level, although Holland still believes the deal can be negotiated legally. Circumstances are beset with ambiguity in the form of Wyatt Dixon, a nightmare from Holland's past there is serious bad blood between the two men. As far as Holland is concerned, forgiveness is not an option. Unfortunately, Wyatt has been "saved", claiming he is a changed man on the path of righteousness. Knowing Wyatt's sociopathic nature, Holland can't digest the new image. Besides, Holland is fighting his own demons, coming to the realization that Johnny American Horse is the perfect fall guy for whatever nefarious activity is really going on. Strange bedfellows being what they are, Holland experiences considerable discomfort when Wyatt hovers on the sidelines, offering his help. Meanwhile the bodies pile up.

In the Arms of Stone Angels (Harlequin Teen) There are so many twists and turns, and you don't know who to trust. The character development was top-notch, and Dane captured the true essence of humanity on these pages.

I'll Take You There Unhesitating in her confrontation of the troubles of racial relations as Oates always is, the denial of the language which defines Vernor's color provokes the collapse of any true connection between them. This, paired with Vernor's own inability to divert from the path he has limited himself to, makes their coupling wildly antagonistic and dangerous.

If You Want Me This ethnic romantic remake of the "Ugly Duckling" theme will captivate the audience with its charming plot and delightful cast. The lead couple is a swan and a hunk whose relationship makes the novel a joy to read. However, the depth to the tale belongs to Alice's efforts to patch up her relationships especially with her mother and sister. Readers will want more novels like IF YOU WANT ME from Kayla Perrin, who eloquently states that a person can go home.

I'll Walk Alone Mary Higgins Clark's latest novel is certainly a nail-biter. It takes us through an accused parent's hopeless frustration with the police and media while she continues to hunt for her missing child. The novel veers into a cautionary tale of

identity theft, and also plays-out a courtroom drama that will have you gritting your teeth. The twists and turns are fabulous and careening, even if the many thrilling storylines are somewhat over-cooked.

First and Last - The Magical Sword Book Four In this book we get to see more of The Underworld and watch as Nexi learns to be a leader. Baseball as a Road to God: Seeing Beyond the Game As a big baseball fan who isn't exactly a religious theologian, I enjoyed the mix of personal stories and baseball history with religious teachings. The book isn't the way to find God, but rather a way to look at the mysteries of faith in a different light. And hey, if you can do that with funny anecdotes about baseball encyclopedia limo drivers and the Brooklyn Dodgers, I'm all for it!

Drowning Ruth: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club) This is by far the most interesting and engrossing novel i have read in a very long time. I love it when I find myself sinking into the story, into the characters, and that is exactly the feeling I got when reading this novel. The writing is so good that it carried me away, to another place altogether, to a cold Wisconsin lake in the winter. Christina Schwarz paints such a compelling picture of the sisters' relationship that I felt almost a part of the scene. In fact, all of her characters are so vivid that i feel as though I would recognize them walking down the street. And the story itself is a page-turner. Anyway, BUY IT!! READ IT!!

Boy Toy There have been a number of highly publicized incidents involving minors and school staff. People may be prone to dismiss such occurrences because the perpetrator is a pretty female and they take a "boy's will be boy's" attitude. This book exemplifies the real damage that occurs to the child's psyche as a result of such abuse. I highly recommend reading it.

Bless The Beauty When your heart is split in to two parts, is there anyway to bring both halves together? Hadley has to find her answer in Bless the Beauty. I thought that Chase and Hadley was a great couple but man, when you put Kellen into the mix the threesome just smoked. I laughed a few times at how Kellen had no problem using his advantages, while Hadley

hardly ever used them. I was surprised and happy that Chase was able to accept the things that were thrown at him so fast. The fact that they are still a kicking FBI team has me waiting for the next case. I will be interested to see what the next chapter brings to this unique threesome. Bless the Beauty takes humor, passion, suspense, just a bit of vampire ingenuity, and combines it all in such a way that will put it on your keeper shelf.

Big Bad Wolf: A Cos Commando Novel Ms. Low is one of those rare author's that can grab a hold of a reader and entrenches you into her world of characters so much so that you believe and dream that they are real. I have fallen in love over and over with her leading men and women who are true heros and heroines. They encompass our dream men and women that have bodies to die for, strength of character that is unmatched and personalities that make you laugh and cry. Let alone the hot romance and danger that comes along when each of her stories are told! Not only will the Big Bad Wolf enthrall each and every one of you, I suggest that if you have not read Genitta Low before that you go out and purchase everyone of her books that you will be rereading over and over because you can't get enough.

An Everlasting Bite Love is born between strangers, yet built upon a bond soul deep one Alpha’s vow to protect his mate from looming danger, all the while, mending her soul and stirring her wolfish desires.

Zero Degrees I loved the concept of this book. The coming of age of a young girl to a women. Who tried to protect those who she loves. Zero was that girl. I enjoyed the book so much that i did not realized it finish lol. I dont trust that girl Peaches and I hope my boy Zues survived. Cant wait for the next one. Dont make it to short.

Where Heaven Begins This is one of best novels I've read. The characters are so real. They have real issues and struggles and face lots of adversity. If you don't read this book you will be missing out on a skillfully written story of love, trust, forgiveness and determination. You will laugh and cry with these characters whom you will come to love very much. I highly recommend this book to anyone. You won't be sorry you took the time. It's one you won't want to put down. Rosanne Bittner has a rare gift in the way she writes.

Wanderlust Skye Warren has written a dark and distressing novel that had me questioning my own sense of right and wrong and easily forgiving and absolving all wrongdoing by the malevolent monster who took Evie captive. Wanderlust held my attention throughout its entirety, and I now have a new favorite among Skye Warren's works.

Vanished This is, for most of the book, a well-written, well plotted and gripping thriller centering on a private missing persons enquiry and a police investigation into multiple disappearances and possible murders. I found the central character a believable and engaging narrator and much of the story engrossing. In particular, the early parts of the book are excellent with slow, meticulous research revealing tantalising and interesting clues about the disappearance. There are also some rather good character insights and a well-drawn sense of place, especially on the London Underground.

Twisted Perfection Della has been through so much, I felt for her at not even knowing how to fill the car with gas. Straight away Woods was there helping a damsel in distress, just like he did with Blaire. Della is a lucky girl. You can't even begin to imagine having to marry someone for future success, I was so hoping that Woods would come through, so pleased!

They Eat Puppies, Don't They? In They Eat Puppies, Don't They?, Mr. Buckley is returning to several themes we've seen before. He goes after some of the same targets, too: politicians, the media, Hollywood, reality television, pundits, trophy wives, the uninformed populace, and of course novelists. Who can blame him? They all make such inviting targets!

The Time In Between Sira was a wonderful main character. At first she is shown as a selfish young woman who leaves her family for a man who is obviously not good for her. After this we watch her mature and grow into an intelligent woman able to take care of herself and use her skills in unusual but successful ways. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of this time and to anyone who enjoys reading about espionage. Both aspects are well detailed in this beautiful book.

The Guilty One

This story is compelling. It is about trying to understand how someone could have done something - like how an eleven-year old child kills an eight-year old child, which is probably no more knowable to the reader than to the eleven-year old. The mystery here is from the past. Daniel's, the solicitor, history is somehow colliding with the present day life of Sebastian, the eleven-year old boy he is protecting.

Suddenly Royal This was overall a highly enjoyable novel that's geared towards much older teens and adults as their is some steamy sexual content. Most definitely a great book to cuddle up with on a relaxing day.

The Evil Seed The book didn't hold my interest at first but after continuing to read, the eerie creepiness of the story grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Even after I finished the book it still creeped me out. Loved it!

The Denniston Rose This is a fantastic book about life in New Zealand in the 19th century and the hardships that surrounded the community of Denison. This book is sharp witted and endearing. The character Rose gets under your skin.

The Artist's Daughter: A Memoir When Alexandra Kuykendall became a mother it was the beginning of a soul-searching journey that took her into her past and made her question everything she'd experienced and a lot of what she hadn't. The only daughter of a single, world-traveling mother and an absent artist father, Alexandra shares her unique quest to answer universal questions: Am I lovable? Am I loved? Am I loving?

Stages of Grace The other characters are written just as well, Ryan is total book boyfriend material. (Be still my beating heart, seriously!) Kate is a hoot of an old lady and everything anyone would hope to be when they "grow up." Again, no spoilers so I'm just going to reiterate how wonderfully complex these characters are, not only the main characters, but even the supporting characters are exactly what they need to be.

Magician (Riftwar Saga) Little do the lads know the events they set in motion. They become unwitting catalysts in a war that engulfs two worlds, and potentially existence as a whole. Magician follows their tale from humble beginnings to a struggle that depends on their untapped potential to resolve. The story is quite well written and is an enjoyable and engrossing read. While slow at times (particularly at the start), it's still a faster moving story than Tolkien, Robert Jordan, and many other fantasy writers. A smart combination of magic theory, war tactics, and political intrigue give this book many levels on which to enjoy.

Silverthorn As to recommendations, I would definitely recommend this to anyone in search of a good fantasy story. However, I also recommend that Magician (above!) be read before this, and that A Darkness At Sethanon be read after. Enjoy the book, and don't pay too much attention to insignificant things.

Spirit Walker As the Moon of No Dark waxes large, the clans fall prey to a horrifying sickness. Fear stalks the Forest. No one knows the cause and only Torak can find the cure.

Silent Warrior Why you should read it: This short novella is a must-read for Dragon Kings lovers. Silence and Hark are two beautiful warriors fighting for different things and then each other. It's short but answers some questions for lovers of the series. If you haven't read the first book, Caged Warrior, then this prequel is the perfect opportunity to jump into the series. Hunted Warrior is the third, expected to be published later this year.

Room to Breathe I ranked it 4 stars because it took me a little longer to read. There were either extra words, missing words, or misspelled words that may have caused me to reread a certain sentence to make any sense of it. Other than that, I would recommend this book.

River of Dust On the windswept plains of northwestern China, Mongol bandits swoop down upon an American missionary couple and steal their small child. The Reverend sets out in search of the boy and becomes lost in the rugged, corrupt countryside populated by opium dens, sly nomadic warlords and traveling circuses. This upright Midwestern minister develops a following among the Chinese peasants and is christened Ghost Man for what they perceive are his otherworldly powers. Grace, his young ingenue wife, pregnant with their second child, takes to her sick bed in the mission compound, where visions of her stolen child and lost husband begin to beckon to her from across the plains.

Peaches for Father Francis A welcome return to Lansquenet, at least for us, the readers. But things have changed there since Vianne Rocher left. As she untangles the strange goings on, the Vent d'Autan begins to blow, and it's well known that it makes people do dangerous, crazy things. As usual, Joanne Harris serves up a feast of characters and setting, but in this book surprised me by grasping a thorny issue firmly by the truffles. A real page-turner with a wise heart.

In the Woods The story was enthralling a book I couldn't wait to pick up. The unsolved mystery kept unfolding in exciting bits and pieces with promise of a great revelation that could change the life of the main character. One of the most unsatisfying endings to any book I have read. Well written, however, and a joy ride to the disappointing ending.

Hemlock Grove My only reservation about the book is the ending. Without giving away important details, I found it to be a bit too chaotic and lacked any satisfying resolution for a couple of the main characters. I had to do some mental gymnastics to try and make all of the details fit together. Don't get me wrong, it was a definite ending and there was an interesting twist, I just wanted to know more about what happened to some of my favorite characters. Hemlock Grove is a dark, rich tale that is very immersive and very gothic. However, if you prefer plausible stories and well explained science, you should probably look elsewhere.

Evanescent (The Countenance Trilogy 2) This is a wonderful addition to the first. I am so anxious for the third in a few months! I could not put it down read it in a day!!

Eleven Eleven Set during the final 24 hours before the armistice at 11 a.m. on 11th November 1918, the story follows a German storm trooper, an American airman and a British Tommy. Their destinies converge during the death throes of the first ever conflict to spread across the globe. War becomes incredibly personal as nationality and geography cease to matter to each of these teenagers on the Western Front, and friendship becomes the defining aspect of their encounter. But who will live and who will die before the end of the day?

Ditched Thank God for Lanna. That was one hell of a BFF. Nobody else was going to stand up for Holly's wants, and Lanna happily took the job. I would like to see a side book for Lanna, which is something I never say. I would love to see Lanna give Collin a nut shot. He completely deserves it, and I think she would enjoy it the most.

Defying Mars (The Saving Mars Series) (Volume 2) I found the concept of human like Marsians (what Martians call themselves!) so fun and interesting. It is a unique spin on an alien tale. This a great fast paced novel that is an emotional ride! The descriptive details are just amazing, you aren't sitting there trying to guess the scene, it comes alive in a snap! and you're just amazed at how beautiful things are.

Caught (Missing) I immensely enjoyed it. I was originally afraid it wouldn't contribute to the story, but it gives yet another facet of interest to the series.

Broken Harbor: A Novel (Dublin Murder Squad) The narrative voice is terrifically believable and readable. The narrator, Detective Mike Kennedy is, for all his flaws, a very sympathetic character and the revelations about his personal life and past are delicately and insightfully done. The story unfolds at a very measured pace but is utterly gripping throughout and is genuine it's-very-late-but-just-onemore-chapter stuff. We get a real feel for the lives of both narrator and the victims, a heart-wrenching portrait of what

the boom-and-bust economy in Ireland has really done to some of its people, and varied, poignant portraits of what it means when certainty and control of one's life begin to unravel and when well-intentioned actions go wrong.

A Darkness at Sethanon (The Riftwar Saga, Vol. 4) This is a wonderful conclusion to one of the best fantasy series of all time. If you have not read the prior three books (Magician I & II and Silverthorn), you probably will not get much out of this, though. This book builds upon characters introduced earlier, so new readers will find themselves lost quickly.

The Twelve Rooms of the Nile Just how they might appeal to each other, and what each brings to the table that the other is lacking to be great, and why their collision has remained secret, are the business of this story, ornamented with a meticulous reconstruction of Egypt at the dawn of its rediscovery, just as the Rosetta Stone was enabling the lost culture of the ancients to finally be understood. Clearly, Enid Shomer has written Twelve Rooms of the Nile as another kind of Rosetta Stone, to enable reconstruction of two remarkable persons who, no less than the civilization of Egypt, have been lost to us through a century of admiration for what they achieved.

Whirlwind Charlie McKenzie is the best at what he does, and what he does is covert operations. At least he did until the U.S. government betrayed him and he ended up in jail. He's now a free man, but he's never forgiven the people who locked him up and wouldn't even give him a pass to attend his beloved wife's funeral. But the government is in big trouble when a beautiful Russian spy gets her hands on a top-secret "cloaking device" called Whirlwind. Only Charlie McKenzie has what it takes to find the Russian agent and retrieve the stolen device. Charlie's smart enough to exact a huge payment for the job, and even more important, set it up so his employers can't betray him again.

Three Times Lucky This face paced book is one of the best young adult books in a long time. From start to finish it is truly an American classic.

The Tin Horse I read The Tin Horse twice: the first time to bolt through the fast-moving story and the second to let myself cozy up into the novel's nooks and crannies. It was that second time that I got the pleasure of both taking another look at the storyline, and of turning up places with the deeper-running threads and themes that make for truly great reading.

The Sunshine When She's Gone I absolutely loved this book. The characters are so real and relatable. Thea goodman doesn't glamorize anything and even though this is a work of fiction you want to believe that this happened! You will get so caught up in the "he said, she said" that when the book ends you will mourn the end of your relationship with john and Veronica. So much so for me that I read the book twice!!

The Rice Mother This book took me on an extraordinary journey through the minds and hearts of several characters. The author's writing was so descriptive and imaginitive that I could feel the characters' pain and feel it deeply. As I was reading the novel, and even now after just finishing, I feel deeply connected to the characters, and I loved hearing "their story." As the voice of the story changes to different family members, we get to see things from different perspectives, and hear new apects of the situation. Through every story prevades a love so heartbreaking it can't possibly be returned.

The Pearl Diver My biggest problem with the book was keeping track of the timeline. It was difficult at times to figure out how much time had actually passed how old Miss Fuji now was, how long she had been on the island. But overall, Jeff Talarigo's novel is a walk alongside a young Japanese girl as she is forced to live out a life she never wanted, in a society that considers her untouchable. As the years pass and the fear and loathing of leprosy subsides, will Miss Fuji be able to make the change as well?

The Mystery Woman (Ladies of Lantern Street) This second book in the series does not disappoint. None of Amanda Quick's (Jayne Castle, Jayne Ann Krentz) books ever do. This story follows Beatrice Lockwood from her position as Miranda the Clairvoyant to her new profession as an investigator for the Flint & Marsh agency. In that capacity she meets the enigmatic Joshua Gage, a scarred and lamed veteran of the spy game. Their story is exciting and romantic, as usual for Ms. Krentz' books. I enjoyed it immensely.

The Marrying Season (Legend of St. Dwynwen Trilogy)

This was a satisfying read involving a marriage of convenience turning into something more. While the story has a few bumps in the middle and a rather abrupt ending, the first half of the book made up for its somewhat convoluted resolution. I may be of the minority of readers who like the heroine, Genevieve, more than the hero, Myles, for the fact that Genevieve has a far greater depth of character than the archetypal kind and charming Myles, whose exhibition of a myriad of pig-headed behavior lessened my esteem for him.

The Geek Girl's Guide to Cheerleading Bethany and Moni are almost humiliated when they show up to cheer at a wrestling match and no one else for the team is there. Instead of giving up, the girls cheer through the match, though it's hard when you don't understand the rules of wrestling. But that match just might have gotten them noticed by two super-hot guys. Now they're both dating boys, but also trying to navigate through the waters of high school without being attacked by a shark. Charity Tahmaseb and Darcy Vance team up to create a world where geeks mix with the popular crowd. While the characters bring up several social questions, the story is really just pure fun.

The Exiled Blade (The Assassini)

The trilogy wraps up nicely, and opens up interesting opportunities for sequels. It's a rich universe, where plenty more interesting twists can happen.

The Elite (Selection) This book is solo amazing. I can nit wait for book three. It is so sad that I will have to wait for a while. I can't wait to see what happens. This book was full of crazy things and seriously intense moments. I laughed out loud, cried actual tears and yelled out in fury. Keira Cass is amazing as ever. Definitely a must read!

The Beast Within (The Elite Series) This book was a quick and enjoyable read. I've read Twilight and wasn't sure if I'd like another YA fantasy book about creatures, but this book was original and fun. The story isn't too complicated or too simple. The characters have depth and I can easily picture them as real people. Which of course means I had a slight crush on the main guy and definitely have my favorite female lead. It's a real "page-turner" and doesn't have too much teen angst, drama and romance - thank goodness! Love the action, too! Can't wait for the next one.

Texas Hold 'Em (Smokin' ACES)

Working undercover as part of an elite team of Rangers disguised as the Smokin’ ACES biker gang, Timothy Santos walks the thin line between law-enforcer and law-breaker. With one of his informants missing—and possibly dead—at the hands of vicious cartel leader El Brujo, Santos will do whatever it takes to find justice. Even if it means heading to Rio County to look up his former lover…who’s not only the sheriff, but Santos’s only lead.

Palisades Park The book begins in 1922 with a family outing to the New Jersey fun center. It weaves its way through time, with Brennert brilliantly mixing world events (The Depression, Pearl Harbor, World War II, the Civil Rights movement) into the storylines of both the characters and the New Jersey amusement park. The story spans five decades, ending in 1974.

Swordfights & Lullabies (A Modern Witch Morsel) The 2013 tour for Cassidy and Rosie ends with Debora continuing to wrap them and everyone a part of it with the same deep, intense magic that she wove around them in the beginning.

Ratcatcher The formatting was an area of weakness: all the text was left-aligned, scene-change indicators were not always present, speech was sometimes difficult to assign to the players. This book is not one I would take to the beach for an easy read as you may have to work to keep the story and characters aligned in your head, but I do believe it is worth the effort.

Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls His autobiographical pieces are definitely what I enjoyed most in this book. Although I'm not as big a fan of the six fiction pieces that are published here, I applaud Sedaris for reaching outside his comfort zone. The fiction works are told from various `different' points of view. Unlike the funny and sometimes poignant non-fiction pieces, however, I found these stories to come off as somewhat heavy-handed. I missed the Sedaris humor in these.

Jimmy His only redeeming moments were interactions with his Mom and brother and his love interest, but even when they shared an intimate moment, Jimmy's thoughts about her snuffed out the small spark of likableness(is that even a

word?) that I was starting to feel for him. To be fair, I didn't like his two victims or feel like rooting for them to survive either. The first victim kind of fades into the background once the second arrives on the scene.

Doughnut A typically interesting Tom Holt tale wherein Theo (blamed for the destruction of the Very, Very Large Hadron Collider) finds out that the theory of multiverses is actually true, but not accurate. In the end, Theo learns the truth about his brother Max, his mentor Pieter and gets the girl. This brief summation does not do credit to the felicity of language and the fun that ensues as Theo explores the multiverse one bottle at a time. Enjoy at your own risk.

Falling for Heaven (Four Winds) Ms. Conley's writing style flows very well, and Uri is just... *swoon* Such a sweet, strong, wonderful being. It's a short read, but felt like a much longer novel, as far as action, depth, and pacing. That's really hard to do.

Claimed by Him: A Billionaire's Club Story For Graves Buchanan, the only thing he desires, but can never have is Chloe Lexington. He’s been secretly obsessed with this innocent “princess” who also happens to be his best friend’s sister. But Graves would never dare touch her he’s too badly damaged from his past, his desires are too erotic, too deep…too dark.

Claim Me As well as the story itself, writing was sensual, tantalizing and very enjoyable. Storyline flows easily and I really liked this intelligent-like style of writing. The relationship between Nikki and Damien is extremely sexual. But I found refreshing the fact that they do not use sex as a make-up tool, the act of making love helps them to overcome problems from outside and it helps them to feel grounded and safe.

A Tangle of Knots I think A TANGLE OF KNOTS will appeal to fans of Roald Dahl and Richard Peck. It has the same sense of wonder as Dahl and the warmth of Peck. It's domestic, but still contains an amazing adventure, a long-lost legacy, and a woman without words. Best of all, it contains recipes for Cady's mouthwatering cakes (and a pie).

Great Lies To Tell Small Kids Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton | 2005 | ISBN: 0340834056/0340834064 | English | PDF | 92 pages | 4.32 Mb "This is an adult British cartoon book, meaning some of the humor is going to be quite off color. Of course you may have guessed that with the title. "...her original programming will activate and she will kill all humans." This caption runs underneath a picture of an elderly woman in a rocking chair reading, while a boy looks at her trepidatiously. If you find this sort of thing amusing, I suspect that like me, you'll very much enjoy this book. These comics are sort of like a British youngsters version of Dan Piraro's excellent "Bizarro." By making things deliberately topsy-turvy, Andy Riley gets us to think about the world in a different way. And that's a good thing. Anyone who has ever been around small kids knows that sometimes, every once in a long while, you can absolutely not avoid telling them a lie. Or two. Or as many as is necessary to quiet them down and make them go along with whatever you had planned on doing at that particular moment. Sure, lying is not nice, and there is something particularly wrong about lying to innocent little kids, but by golly, it feels so good. Unfortunately, it's not always easy coming up with great lies that the kids would readily believe. This is where Andy Riley's "Great Lies to Tell Small Kids" comes in handy. It provides you with a great resource for those times when you quickly need to come up with a good lie.

Skip James (1902–1969) was perhaps the most creative and idiosyncratic of all blues musicians. Drawing on hundreds of hours of conversations with James himself, Stephen Calt here paints a dark and unforgettable portrait of a man untroubled by his own murderous inclinations, a man who achieved one moment of transcendent greatness in a life haunted by failure. And in doing so, Calt offers new insights into the nature of the blues, the world in which it thrived, and its fate when that world vanished.

Build Powerful Nerve Force Published: 2002-04-02 | ISBN: 0877900949 | PDF | 208 pages | 4 MB Your health, strength, vitality and endurance are directly measured by the degree of your Nerve Force. It gives you the reserve power that makes life successful and fascinating. The world is full of people with the brains and ability to rise to the top, but who lack the necessary Nerve Force to push them forward. A person’s beauty, charm and vivacity are directly related to the Nerve Force that makes them sparkle with radiant health. Your body is a complicated machine; Nerve Force and physical health are interdependent. Nerve Force is the driving power – but its generation, in turn, depends upon the harmonious activities of the vital organs. Your body is nourished throughout its every part by a vast circulatory system that carries oxygenated blood from your heart and lungs. If an organ is not functioning properly, your blood will not contain the elements necessary to create the right sort of Nerve Force. Your stomach must digest efficiently. The digestion assimilating process must be dependable. The eliminating organs – the bowels, lungs, kidneys and skin – must have tremendous Nerve Force to work efficiently. The spleen, liver and all the vital organs of the complex blood-making laboratory must all work harmoniously.

Forged: Writing in the Name of God - Why the Bible's Authors Are Not Who We Think They Are Published: 2011-03-22 | ISBN: 0062012614 | PDF | 320 pages | 3 MB It is often said, even by critical scholars whoshould know better, that “writing in the nameof another” was widely accepted in antiquity. But New York Times bestselling author Bart D.Ehrman dares to call it what it was: literaryforgery, a practice that was as scandalous then as itis today. In Forged, Ehrman’s fresh and originalresearch takes readers back to the ancient world, where forgeries were used as weapons by unknownauthors to fend off attacks to their faith andestablish their church. So, if many of the books inthe Bible were not in fact written by Jesus’s innercircle—but by writers living decades later, withdiffering agendas in rival communities—whatdoes that do to the authority of Scripture? Ehrman investigates ancient sources to: Reveal which New Testament books wereoutright forgeries. Explain how widely forgery was practiced byearly Christian writers—and how strongly it wascondemned in the ancient world as fraudulentand illicit. Expose the deception in the history of the Christian religion. Ehrman’s fascinating story of fraud and deceit isessential reading for anyone interested in the truthabout the Bible and the dubious origins of Christianity’s sacred texts.

Close to the Edge: In Search of the Global Hip Hop Generation ISBN: 1844677419, 1742233112 | 2011 | MOBI | 208 pages | 4 MB The global politics of hip hop. “Fernandes brilliantly captures the moment when a global generation curved toward a unifying language and culture and found something that was both much more and much less than what it was searching for. Close to the Edge is a beautifully told tale of the collective and the personal, the cultural and political—a classic of hip hop writing and a poignant tribute to urban youth.” —Jeff Chang, author of Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A History of the Hip Hop Generation At its rhythmic, beating heart, Close to the Edge asks whether hip hop can change the world. Hip hop—rapping, beat-making, b-boying, deejaying, graffiti—captured the imagination of the teenage Sujatha Fernandes in the 1980s, inspiring her and politicizing her along the way. Years later, armed with mc-ing skills and an urge to immerse herself in global hip hop, she embarks on a journey into street culture around the world. From the south side of Chicago to the barrios of Caracas and Havana and the sprawling periphery of Sydney, she grapples with questions of global voices and local critiques, and the rage that underlies both. An engrossing read and an exhilarating travelogue, this punchy book also asks hard questions about dispossession, racism, poverty and the quest for change through a microphone.

Journeys on the Silk Road: A Desert Explorer, Buddha's Secret Library, and the Unearthing of the World's Oldest Printed Book ISBN: 0762782978 | 2012 | MOBI | 336 pages | 2 MB When a Chinese monk broke into a hidden cave in 1900, he uncovered one of the world’s great literary secrets: a time capsule from the ancient Silk Road. Inside, scrolls were piled from floor to ceiling, undisturbed for a thousand years. The gem within was the Diamond Sutra of AD 868. This key Buddhist teaching, made 500 years before Gutenberg inked his press, is the world’s oldest printed book. The Silk Road once linked China with the Mediterranean. It conveyed merchants, pilgrims and ideas. But its cultures and oases were swallowed by shifting sands. Central to the Silk Road’s rediscovery was a man named Aurel Stein, a Hungarian-born scholar and archaeologist employed by the British service. Undaunted by the vast Gobi Desert, Stein crossed thousands of desolate miles with his fox terrier Dash. Stein met the Chinese monk and secured the Diamond Sutra and much more. The scroll’s journey—by camel through arid desert, by boat to London’s curious scholars, by train to evade the bombs of World War II—merges an explorer’s adventures, political intrigue, and continued controversy. The Diamond Sutra has inspired Jack Kerouac and the Dalai Lama. Its journey has coincided with the growing appeal of Buddhism in the West. As the Gutenberg Age cedes to the Google Age, the survival of the Silk Road’s greatest treasure is testament to the endurance of the written word.

The Culture Club: Modern Art, Rock and Roll, and Other Things Your Parents Warned You About ISBN: 0733315615 | 2007 | MOBI | 298 pages | 2 MB THE CULTURE CLUB puts the history of art and philosophy through a shredder, throws the remains in a plastic bag with a torn-up copy of last month?s ROLLING STONE and some old TV guides, tips everything out on the floor and glues the pieces where they land. Now Vincent Van Gogh finds himself sharing studio space with Prince and Steven Spielberg; John Cage guest stars on THE MUPPET SHOW; and futurist composer Luigi Russolo does the orbit with Grandmaster Flash. It?s not exactly the way you learned history at school - more like a visit to some weird nightclub where Albert Camus takes the stage to read from THE OUTSIDER while the Dust Brothers seamlessly mix The Cure into the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. What is this place? Is that Friedrich Nietzsche talking to Elvis Presley over there? And was that really Marcel Duchamp?s Fountain you saw in the toilets? Craig Schuftan is on hand to make the introductions in THE CULTURE CLUB. Grab a drink, pull up a chair and let him convince you that French dramatist Antonin Artaud really is just as important to the history of rock and roll as Guns ?n? Roses.

The King Never Smiles: A Biography of Thailand's Bhumibol Adulyadej English | ISBN: 0300106823, 9810801947 | 2013 | PDF | 512 pages | 10 MB Thailand’s Bhumibol Adulyadej, the only king ever born in the United States, came to the throne of his country in 1946 and is now the world’s longest-serving monarch. The King Never Smiles, the first independent biography of Thailand's monarch, tells the unexpected story of Bhumibol's life and sixty-year rule—how a Western-raised boy came to be seen by his people as a living Buddha, and how a king widely seen as beneficent and apolitical could in fact be so deeply political and autocratic. Paul Handley provides an extensively researched, factual account of the king’s youth and personal development, ascent to the throne, skillful political maneuverings, and attempt to shape Thailand as a Buddhist kingdom. Handley takes full note of Bhumibol's achievements in art, in sports and jazz, and he credits the king's lifelong dedication to rural development and the livelihoods of his poorest subjects. But, looking beyond the widely accepted image of the king as egalitarian and virtuous, Handley portrays an anti-democratic monarch who, together with allies in big business and the corrupt Thai military, has protected a centuries-old, barely modified feudal dynasty. When at nineteen Bhumibol assumed the throne, the Thai monarchy had been stripped of power and prestige. Over the ensuing decades, Bhumibol became the paramount political actor in the kingdom, silencing critics while winning the hearts and minds of his people. The book details this process and depicts Thailand’s unique constitutional monarch—his life, his thinking, and his ruling philosophy.

Origami Quilts 2001 | 88 Pages | ISBN: 4889960686 | PDF | 24 MB Not about quilts in the classic sense this book is about making "quilts" or geometric quilt-like decorative patterns similar to tile mosaics, using origami (Japanese paperfolding) techniques. Tomoko Fuse is the reigning master of

modular origami designs, in which multiple sheets of paper are folded into identical or similar shapes. These are then linked into larger objects, often three dimensional, but in this case, 2 dimensional mosaics. Some modular origami experience is recommended, plus a large supply of origami paper! But the results are spectacular! A must-have for any modular origami fan.

Domino Knitting 2002 | 96 Pages | ISBN: 193149911X | PDF | 8 MB Domino knitting is a type of "modular knitting," with knitted squares and strips building on one another to form a larger piece-just as in the game dominoes are placed next to one another to create a larger whole. Fun, eminently portable, and requiring nothing more than a knowledge of the basic knit and purl stitches, this technique has been popularized in recent years by Horst Schultz, whose Patchwork Knitting first attracted Hmxbro to the craft. While inspirational, Schultz's book is not the best choice for neophytes. Knitters wishing to master this technique would be well advised to work through this little book instead. A Danish knitwear designer with an obvious knack for teaching, Hmxbro instructs through a series of colorful potholder projects. Teaching sessions are followed by a number of projects using the technique and include both garments and accessories for the home.

Soul by Soul: Life Inside the Antebellum Slave Market 2000 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 0674821483 | PDF | 9 MB Soul by Soul tells the story of slavery in antebellum America by moving away from the cotton plantations and into the slave market itself, the heart of the domestic slave trade. Taking us inside the New Orleans slave market, the largest in the nation, where 100,000 men, women, and children were packaged, priced, and sold, Walter Johnson transforms the statistics of this chilling trade into the human drama of traders, buyers, and slaves, negotiating sales that would alter the life of each. What emerges is not only the brutal economics of trading but the vast and surprising interdependencies among the actors involved. Using recently discovered court records, slaveholders' letters, nineteenth-century narratives of former slaves, and the financial documentation of the trade itself, Johnson reveals the tenuous shifts of power that occurred in the market's slave coffles and showrooms. Traders packaged their slaves by "feeding them up," dressing them well, and oiling their bodies, but they ultimately relied on the slaves to play their part as valuable commodities. Slave buyers stripped the slaves and questioned their pasts, seeking more honest answers than they could get from the traders. In turn, these examinations provided information that the slaves could utilize, sometimes even shaping a sale to their own advantage. Johnson depicts the subtle interrelation of capitalism, paternalism, class consciousness, racism, and resistance in the slave market, to help us understand the centrality of the "peculiar institution" in the lives of slaves and slaveholders alike. His pioneering history is in no small measure the story of antebellum slavery.
