Wedding Night I'm a Sophie fan and she has managed to give us another book full of quirky but fabulous characters that you have to love.

Veil Really, Veil has a dense plot that I felt was well written. As I went along the harder it was to put down. I really like the retribution element to the whole story line, the woman scorned kind of thing.

Unbreakable I fell in love with Unraveling and have been waiting awhile to read Unbreakable it's totally worth the wait and it's an amazing follow up to what was one of my favorite books from last year. If you're a fan of the first book, I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's a great amount of all our favorite characters plus there's not a chapter that goes by where we don't think about Alex and what Janelle lost when she lost him (and her father).

Trick It's been three years since Gunner stomped on her heart and left her broken, but when Harlow walks into the dive bar he now owns, that familiar spark reignites and burns through both of them.

Tomb of the Lost

On a bed a man lays dying. Alexander the great, King, the Lion of Macedon has a mysterious fever. He became king at twenty, dying at thirty three, having conquered the known world. Following his death his General and friend Ptolemy takes the body and inters it into a magnificent tomb in Alexandria, Egypt. The very city Alexander founded.

Thread on Arrival: An Embroidery Mystery Love this series and I love Marcy even more now that she finally picked a guy-and the right one at that. Solid mystery with an always fun and interesting cast of characters. I enjoy the side journeys into the heroine's life it fleshes her out as a person, someone we would enjoy knowing and spending time with. Looking forward to the next one!

The Spear of Destiny I thoroughly enjoyed this, the second book from Julian Noyce. The pace of the story is fast moving with plenty of action throughout. Well done Julian, let's have another very soon.

The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day: It's Wizards Vs Priets in a Battle for the Future of Roundworld The fourth book in the Science of Discworld series, and this time around dealing with THE REALLY BIG QUESTIONS, Terry Pratchett's brilliant new Discworld story Judgement Day is annotated with very big footnotes (the interleaving chapters) by mathematician Ian Stewart and biologist Jack Cohen, to bring you a mind-mangling combination of fiction, cutting-edge science and philosophy.

The Rage Author Gene Kerrigan's talent at revealing the backstories of his characters, especially that of Det. Sgt. Bob Tidey, makes all these characters more realistic than one would expect of a dark murder mystery. Their moral quandaries are the main focus of the novel, despite the random, bloody violence. Despite the seemingly excessive number of characters and violence, necessitating a running list of who's who (for me), this novel, written in clear and unambiguous prose, achieves a new level for the mystery story, one in which the emphasis on theme and character becomes more important for the author than the sensational outcomes so common to this genre.

The Other Side THE OTHER SIDE brings together psychiatrist Nadine Lavoie and police sergeant Sandy McBride and tells a parallel story to NEVER KNOWING, but also works as a stand alone tale. Sandy is working the case of her life, The Campsite Killer. Nadine's client is his daughter. When Nadine is attacked, everyone assumed The Campsite Killer is responsible. Sandy has another killer on her mind, her father who had killed her mother decades ago. Or did he?

The Longest Holiday I liked Laura so much, I sometimes felt like I could see myself in her. OH and the end is nail biting! I mean I even cried! I so much recommend this book if you are looking to feel every emotion you can imagine as your own..

The Last Policeman This is an absorbing novel, a rippingly fast read with strong characters who are dealing with the toughest of situations in their own ways. Author Ben Winters paints a convincing picture of what life would be like in the U.S. under these circumstances, with small hints about what's going on in other parts of the world. Some areas already are in chaos. Money doesn't mean what it once did to Palace, though it's still, to his surprise, important to others.

The Interrogation Room That was a great story! It really turned me on, that's for sure!! Will be looking up more on this writer!

The Golem and the Jinni Of course, there IS culture clash in this novel, and conflict galore. But in every instance that her tale could be ordinary, Ms. Wecker makes it extraordinary. The lush cultures, heritage, and history depicted so beautifully are merely the jumping off point for a dazzlingly inventive fantasy. Where did this writer come from, and how is it possible that this accomplished work is her debut? It is sure to be one of the literary highlights of the year!

The Folded Earth After losing her husband in a dramatic mountaineering accident, a young widow decides she must move close to the mountains he loved and trekked. She thinks she has found the ideal hideout, a small village in the folds of the Himalayas, and her life regains some sense of balance. But when her landlord's nephew comes back to town after a long absence, the young widow suddenly realizes that with him has come the upheaval she so desperately wanted to escape.

The Darkest Corners (Invisible Fiends) Really good book, didn't leave anything unsolved. The whole series is well worth the read whether you are 8 or 80. Give it a go.

The City The City is ancient, layers upon layers. Once a thriving metropolis, it has sprawled beyond its bounds, inciting endless wars with neighboring tribes and creating a barren wasteland of what was once green and productive. In the center of the City lives the emperor. Few have ever seen him, but those who have recall a man in his prime, though he should be very old. Some grimly speculate that he is no longer human, if he ever was. A small number have come to the desperate conclusion that the only way to stop the war is to end the emperor’s unnaturally long life.

The Carnivore While performing her own miracles the night of the storm as a nurse at a mud-filled, overcrowded emergency room, Mary met a woman disoriented and near death with a disturbingly peculiar recollection of events. While Mary tries to shake her suspicions about Ray as they rebuild their life in the shell-shocked city, she can't help but wonder about her husband and that fateful night. When a reporter comes knocking 50 years later to revisit that horrendous night, the truth begins to surface and threatens to destroy them.

The Bride Wore Black Leather That said, Green is famous for interweaving the characters from his other series into his current work (especially in recent years). Because of this it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to find we're able to catch a glimpse or two of John and Suzie somewhere in Green's upcoming books. So fan's do not despair, the Nightside is not over, it's just settled on a nice happy place to rest until Green reintroduces readers to dabblings of it in his future works.

The Boys from Santa Cruz: A Thriller E. L. Pender is a retired FBI agent who was never your typical agent. Noted for his mismatched and colorful clothes, Pender reminds me of a giant teddy bear. In this novel, the story shifts back to 1985 when Pender was an active agent on a case involving snuff films. During this case, Pender's investigation connects him with a teen, Luke Sweet, whose father was the one linked to the snuff

film ring. Luke appears to also be connected with his father's business and eventually ends up in a rehab camp. The story then brings the reader to 1995. Pender comes across names from the past that remind him of his prior case of Luke Sweet, which brings him back to California to pursue his gut intuition that his older case was never resolved. Nasaw writes a solid thriller which is fast paced with twists that make this novel hard to put down. I love his Pender character because of his humor, wacky dress code, and his ability to catch the bad guy.

The Bone House This book was a pleasant surprise. It is an incredibly rare series which gets better in the second book, but Lawhead has done just that. He has maintained the depth of character development, excellent descriptions of the scenes, and at the same time upped the pace and removed my one qualm with the first book in this series: the confusion of jumping from time to time. In this book, he is much more careful to place cues at the beginning of each chapter so that you know where you are, in the story at least.

The Blue Demon No one is writing books quite like these books set in an exotic yet deceptively familiar site that combine elements of history, politics, and mystery in equal and exotic dollops that produce something unique and different each time while

utilizing ingredients familiar and otherwise. The Blue Demon is a welcome addition to a series worth reading and revisiting on a regular basis.

The Bird House The mystery of Ann's dead daughter, mentioned on the very first page, was intriguing enough to keep the pages turning to see what happened and answer if Ann did actually have a heavy hand in the demise of her own daughter. A beautifully told portrait of the ties that make up the conundrum of a family, of a lifetime."

The Beast (Invisible Fiends, Book 5) Can Kyle stop this monster from the Darkest Corners before anyone else dies? Certainly not, if the police have anything to do with it. Because they think they know who the beast is.

The Badger's Revenge (A Josiah Wolfe Novel)

This was my first Larry D. Sweazy novel and I'm an instant fan of Texas Ranger Josiah Wolfe. The plotting, dialogue, and style were all top notch. Don't miss this series!

Septimus Heap, Book Seven: Fyre I loved all the books in this series it doesn't matter if you are a kid or only an kid at heart this series is a must read.

Frostfire (Daughter of the Flames) This is a literary fantasy about war, racial identity and first love. Frost has left her homeland to travel to the neighbouring country of Ruan in the hope of finding a deity she believes will rid her of a curse: at the sight of her own blood, a berserker rage in the form of a wolf overtakes her and kills everyone within reach. On her journey, Frost meets Luca and Arian, two members of the Ruan military force sworn to protect the country's borders from neighbouring rebel fighters. Over the coming months, under Luca's guidance, Frost learns to overcome the Wolf within. She also begins to fall in love with Luca - while Arian falls for her.

Ever After This is a true masterpiece, subtle, profound, exquisitely written. Among the best in modern literature. The writer offers insights into romantic love, and into the minds of scholars and actresses. It deals with the impact of Darwin's ideas on religious minds. The elegant and precise prose reminds me of the witty twists of Nabokov, and the ironic satire of Italo Svevo. A must read for those who appreciate literature.

Earth Thirst (The Arcadian Conflict) A three thousand year old vampire hooks up with a beautiful reporter to wage war on nasty corporate interests ruining the earth while fending off the bad vamps who have turned against the the mother earth. Sound's a bit weird I know, but it's actually pretty good. I'm not usually a vampire fan, but this is well written and pretty exciting. Give it a bite, it doesn't suck.

Dread Nemesis of Mine (Overworld Chronicles) When Justin's long-lost sister, Ivy, shows up at the funeral for Elyssa's brother, Jack, it seems like the family reunion Justin has long hoped for is finally here. But Ivy isn't interested in playing Barbie or hanging out at the mall with her big brother. She's on a mission against evil, and Justin is at the top of her big-bad-meanies list.

Diary of Interrupted Days Diary of Interrupted Days is playful, blazingly intelligent, occasionally erotic and ultimately tragic, unfurling from the cliffhanger scene that opens the book: a lone exile, returning to Belgrade for the first time since he fled to Canada in the mid-nineties, is stranded on the only bridge into the city that hasn’t been destroyed by NATO bombers as air raid sirens sound. He should be focused on getting off the bridge, but he seems unable to calculate the risk . .

Deception's Playground When Samuel Wright, aka Spade, is released from prison after doing a seven-year sentence, he makes a name for himself in the drug game within five years. He has women, money, and a loyal team. Everything seems to be going according to his plan. Get in and get out so he can start investing in legitimate business endeavors, above all an entertainment company.

Dead Souls The plot of the story revolves around a newcomer to an unnamed Russian village (immeadiately under susupicion being an "outsider"), who manages to charm his way into the local scene as a "harmless fellow." Yet soon his plans are revealed: he wishes to purchase the "souls" of dead serfs, the better to establish himself as a member of the landed gentry.

Death of Yesterday (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries) This is vintage M C Beaton. Hamish is at his best, and the characters are as weird and credible as always. As a mystery story, it scores. There no clue as to who the villain was, but when it was solved, it was obvious - it couldn't have been anyone else. The love-life of Hamish is as complicated as usual, and his superiors are as annoying as usual.

Daughter of Jerusalem Daughter of Jerusalem is a work of fiction with a cast of characters we are all familiar with and their connections could have been possible. Earlier I stated, that every scene in this book could be visualized, none proved my point more than Jesus' crucifixion. Not since watching "The Passion of the Christ," have I felt such strong emotions because Joan

Wolf writes how Mary Magdalene and (Jesus' mother) Mary saw this event happening. Daughter of Jerusalem beautifully shows why Mary Magdalene was held in such high regard by Jesus and why she is one of the most famous women in the Bible.

Dark Nebula (The Chronicles of Kerrigan) There are scenes that felt a little dragged out, and at random times Rae seemed very immature and air-headed which was slightly irritating. Also the story wasn't surprisingly new but I still really enjoyed it for its entertainment and fun aspect. It was very predictable throughout but I didn't mind all that much. The idea of Tatus are absolutely brilliant and clever, W.J. May writes an enjoyable chronicle full of page turning events! Dark Nebula makes a great addition to this enthralling fantastical series. The ending was well done and leaves you with a cliffhanger so I'm looking forward to reading the next book House of Cards!

Cooking Spirits: An Angie Amalfi Mystery Many years ago, the newlyweds who lived in the house were murdered, and the case was never solved. While Angie pursues what happened to the couple who now may be haunting the house, Paavo obsesses over his own case

involving the murder of unlikely lovers. The trail leads to ghosts, murders, unhappy families, and enough obnoxious wedding buttinskis to fill a graveyard. But when eerie happenings turn deadly, Angie fears she may be spirited away for good!

Chosen at Nightfall (Shadow Falls) I both love and hate when a series ends. Those characters have become part of my life and I want everything to be perfect for them. It's not perfect, but CC Hunter does a great job wrapping up Kylie's journey to realizing who she is. I've loved every second I spent reading these books. When I finished Chosen at Nightfall, I hugged the book to myself, knowing it was over and it was good.

Come Undone Omg it turned out to be such a good book. I got this book on net galley because I needed something to read and it seemed interesting enough. Married women falls for another guy... Ok. What I didn't expect is to stay up late reading the book because I couldn't wait to find out who Liv would pick.... Her husband and her 'safe bet' or David who is the guy she can't get out ofher head after just one glance. It ends up turning into so much more when David ends up showing up in all aspects of her life.

Chloe

Cleopatra was only eighteen when she was raped and became pregnant. She did not know if the child belonged to her rapist or her boyfriend Patrick. An abortion seemed the convenient choice. She was in her first year at college and a baby would ruin everything. Patrick disagreed. Chloe Cleopatra Taylor was born November 10, 1990. Twenty-four years later, Chloe struggles to find her identity in a gothic culture and her writing.

Chances Are (Last Chance Rescue) Christy Reece's latest release in her outstanding Last Chance Rescue Series has finally arrived. Once again, this author continues to bring the good stuff to the table. Her masterful ability in developing interesting and captivating characters is just one of the many addictive qualities found in her books. She always brings those characters to life on the pages and the relationships between them are unforgettable. Ten books into the series and I'm still hungry for more.

Button Down Ever since local boy Lester Ward got drafted by the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Tugs Button’s scrawny cousin Ned can think of nothing but football. Sure, Lester’s younger bully of a brother is determined to keep Ned and his gang from ever getting near a real pickup game. But Ned has a few things going for him: he can catch and sometimes even

throw, much to his surprise. And he’s got his eccentric grandpa Ike, who may have less get-up-and-go these days, but no shortage of down-home wisdom to pass along-like that being a football star is less about being big and more about playing as a team and honing your strategy, and that having friends and family in your corner is a bigger prize than a lucky football will ever be.

Buddy: How a Rooster Made Me a Family Man His antics make one laugh, and sometimes want to cry. I chose to read this book because I wanted to know what a rooster is like, never having had the opportunity to meet one. Besides being exceedingly handsome, I find something heroic in this brave rooster that stands his ground even when being threatened by stronger and bigger animals.

Behind the Lies (A Montgomery Justice Novel) Zach knows that he has to go home. He is estranged from his family because he blames himself for his father's death. He is reluctant to bring Jenna and Sam with him without knowing if he is the sole target of the blast, but he has no choice. His brothers know nothing about his double life. When he comes clean to his family, Zach's brothers, and Luke's wife, Jazz, stand with Jenna and him.

Bait Dog: An Atlanta Burns Novel

Chuck Wendig has yet to disappoint in anything I have read by him. With that in mind, this book definitely isn't for everyone. Bait Dog was a difficult (read challenging) read for me. Not because I didn't understand the big words (thank God for Kindle dictionary), but because, as a dog lover, the subject matter was hard to accept.

As Sweet as Honey As Sweet as Honey by Indira Ganesan is an exquisitely written novel which takes the reader to the Island of Pi, which is located in the Bay of Bengal. Ganesan does an exceptional job not only with creating wonderfully drawn out characters, but also in fully engaging the reader. As Sweet as Honey captivated me from the very first page and I found myself not wanting to set the book down. Ganesan easily brings the reader into the story and does not let go. I highly recommend As Sweet as Honey to all readers and book discussion groups.

Arcadia's Gift Arcadia's Gift is a great read. I normally have a hard time getting into YA fiction because so many feature obsessive, over the top love, and characters out of an Aaron Spelling TV show. But this book had none of that! The love story felt real, with genuine affection between Cady and Bryan. The characters aren't perfect and feel genuine - like kids I knew

when I was in high school. And I really liked how her "gift" manifested and her search for an explanation of what was happening to her. Can't wait for the next book to see what happens next!

Apologize, Apologize! Apologize, Apologize is one of the funniest, sad books, I have ever read. Collie Flanagan is a regular boy born into the most irregular family. His mother literally tells him she does not love him and prefers his younger brother. His younger brother, Bingo, is the handsome, ill-fated never-do-well, who his mother adores, as does he. His father is a broke, pretentious, philanderer who lives off his wife's money. His grandfather, father to his mother, is the wealthiest, most admired and feared man in town and the only one who isn't taken in by Bingo. He loves Collie, but, has an odd way of showing it. I tell you, Ms. Kelly writes with much wit about a family who places the the dys in dsyfunction. There were so many moments when I laughed out loud, felt sad and other times when I wanted to yell at the mean antics of the characters. The one thing I could not do is stop reading. I recommend Apologize, Apologize to all readers, especially those, who can laugh at and appreciate crazy families.

An Order of Coffee and Tears Gabby is someone that almost every woman can feel akin to. There are characteristics she has that reminded me of myself, and I saw in a lot of my female friends. Mrs. Potts is a wonderful mother figure who cares deeply for her "wards". I would have loved to make her materialize in real life. I felt terrible for Suzette and what she allowed herself to be put through in that horrible marriage of hers. I felt sad for the owner of the diner, Junior, as he never seemed to be able to catch a break. And these folks are just the tip of the iceberg.

All You Could Ask For Then Part II begins and the women show up writing in a blog for cancer patients. Each one of them has found out that they have breast cancer and they all handle this very differently. They begin to communicate and even meet and share stories and become a support system for each other. This is really a story of survival and friendship and the importance it has for us all. Well done, Mike Greenberg. I loved it!!

Accidents Happen A MAGNETIC AND CHILLING NEW THRILLER FROM HIGHLY ACCLAIMED AUTHOR LOUISE MILLAR Kate Parker has weathered unimaginable horrors—her parents died in a traffic accident on her wedding night, and her husband, Hugo, was murdered in a tragic break-in gone wrong. All she has left is her young son, Jack, and determined to make a better future for him, she attempts to pull her life back together. But are she and her son safe?

Above World ABOVE WORLD is so original, so fantastic, and most of all, just so much FUN. It's science fiction adventure told with all the mythic feel of epic fantasy, so readers get mermaids, centaurs, and flying people, but with a scientific explanation underneath - and such a powerful sense of wonder filling every single scene.

A Throne of Bones A Throne of Bones is doorstopping fantasy for far more than its physical dimensions. Metaphysically, it shuts the door to the world we know and provides an escape to a better reality, and one far more dangerous than the one in which we now dwell. It expresses longings (to master dragons, to find treasure, to save the world on a mission from God, to restore and enjoy the family, to live abundantly and in reality, enjoy and defend the relationships that matter, and many, many more) in such richness of detail.

Abdication On the whole, I enjoyed Abdication. Juliet Nicholson's debut novel has captured the pre-war era of the troubled reign of Edward VIII very well. There is fine attention to detail, her historical accuracy is commendable, and the decadent and slightly risque world of the English upper classes is explored with great effect. The overall theme of forbidden love, and the shocking events that led to the abdication of Edward VIII makes for fascinating reading.

A Woman Called Sage Although I enjoyed the story and especially Hawk, I found there to be no excitement. The story was a bit slow and the couple intense parts seemed to be over before I could blink. If a nice slow, Christian Romance is what you enjoy then I'm sure you'll love this book but, if you like all types of romance books then you may want to look elsewhere since you won't find much romance or excitement here.

A Journeyman to Grief (Murdoch Mysteries) Maureen Jennings’s trademark in her popular and acclaimed Detective Murdoch series is to reveal a long-forgotten facet about life in the city that dispels any notion that it really ever was “Toronto the Good.” As well, in A Journeyman to Grief, an exceptionally well plotted and engrossing story, she shows just how a great harm committed in the past can erupt fatally in the present.

A Dixie Christmas The second story revolves around Lance, a Nascar driver who is trying to win his wife back. Throughout the story it gives background information on his relationship with his wife and follows him as he tries to get her back. My reason for only giving 4 stars is that some of the characters weren''t very developed. For instance, in the first story Clay was very rude and obnoxious to Annie, yet she didn''t confront him about it. She just ignored it because she found him attractive. Who would I recommend this book to? Anyone who loves romance, Christmas, and southern hospitality.

A Bloody London Sunset (Sunset Vampire Series, Book 2) I love the story between Caleb and Kat. The unique relationship they have has everyone in the vampire community amazed. I found that Kat wasn't as evident in book 2 as she was in book 1. She is a strong character but I thought that she had taken a bit of a back burner in book 2. Unlike Caleb and Paige who I found were more developed and stronger in this book.

A Delicate Truth

Nearly five decades ago, John le Carre became an international sensation with the publication of his third novel, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold. His last novel, Our Kind of Traitor, won unanimous critical acclaim and hit the New York Times bestseller list just as the Oscar-nominated film version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy introduced a new generation to his chillingly amoral universe.

The Babysitter Murders The best part about this book are the towns people. They overreacted way tooo much! I'm all for being protective of your kids but if there was no harm done, why react that way. They acted like a mobbed just waiting to get their chance at Dani. Even her friends I was shocked with that they acted. We've all have dirty thoughts we can't control. So I was angry that the people reacted so harshly instead of helping they made it worse. I like this book cause of the great psychological thrillers. It really give a great descriptions of what goes on inside of ones mind and how it explodes once let out.

The Awakening: Aidan

This was a really good read!! The story was very well built and sucked me in so much that I read it in one sitting. All the characters were amazing... Jaylin, a half shifter, is a little feisty and a lot set in her ways and Aidan is a full shifter who upon seeing Jaylin, knows what he wants and refuses to take no for an answer, making for some extremely interesting situations for them both. Have to also say that even though this was Jaylin and Aidan's book, my heart really went out to Liam and I really hope that he will somehow get his own HEA.

The Art of War Peace has returned: The year is 2206. After five years of war, the Seven are weak. They have lost three of their members, and the new T'ang are young and inexperienced. Once it was considered inconceivable but now, down in the lowest levels of the immense City, new currents of unrest have awoken. Currents that threaten to tear Chung Kuo apart. The fight endures: But the demand for Change is not the only threat to the Seven. Major Howard DeVore will use any means available to destroy them and their world-spanning City. And, from their own ranks, Wang Sau-leyan, appointed T'ang after the suspicious deaths of his father and elder brothers, plots to destroy them from within. The Seven are vulnerable and the forces against them continue to grow. Welcome to the Future.

The Armada Legacy This story moved so fast I'm sure I need to read it again to ensure I didn't miss anything. I love the character of Ben Hope and really was glad that he and Brooke were able to get past their differences. You don't necessarily need to have read the other books in the series but I'm sure if you do opt for this book you will be buying up all the Ben Hope stories.

The Art of Keeping Secrets The story is about to hit the newspaper. Annabelle must tell her children the cruel news, which leads them to question who their father really was. Annabelle finds herself unable to decide if she should continue to have faith in her memory of her loving husband, in the face of what seems to be irrefutable evidence that he strayed. Meanwhile, a young woman named Sofie Milstead in Newboro, North Carolina, studies dolphins at a research center. In spite of her relationship with her much older boyfriend, the dolphins are her one true love. The endearing mammals offer Sofie peace in a life filled with sorrow, lies and secrets. She has been so indoctrinated with the need to keep the real facts about her life hidden that she herself sometimes has problems discerning between the truth and the fiction of her past. An art historian named Michael Harley begins hounding Sofie for answers about an artist he believes may be connected to Sofie's mother through her art studio. This is upsetting to Sofie, but not nearly so much as encountering a person from her past - someone who expects Sofie to share her memories of Knox Murphy. How can she talk about him without telling of those forbidden truths? It's impossible. In a lyrical voice, Patti Callahan Henry seamlessly weaves an intriguing mystery from the separate strands of Annabelle and Sofie's lives, while invoking the wonder of their seaside surroundings. Each character is multilayered, with believable emotions that arise as long-hidden secrets come to light. Riveting to the end, the plot twists and turns, giving us a complex enigma to puzzle over, along with a poignant exploration of the very nature of faith and love.

The Anthologist Baker is masterly in intertwining his fictional narrative with observations on poetry that may, or may not, be strictly his. In fact I'm sure they're not 100% his own, and that gives them a freedom to be simplistic or warped or limited in a way that I'm sure Baker wouldn't have wanted to fly under his own name. But his discussion of various poets and their methods doesn't require that we agree, only that we follow his train of thought and he makes it easy for us to do so while engaging us with the subject. The novel is, finally, an easy and quick read, much like the short lyric poems that it particularly extols, though, like those poems, it has much more heft than its ease leads us to expect.

The American Heiress Goodwin's novel is a very entertaining read. I had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep each night this week. Reminding me of Edith Wharton's Age of Innocence with it's decadence and moral themes, this novel is full of fresh plot twists and elegant but ultimately self-serving characters. Cora, while narcissistic and conceited, is so young and naive that I couldn't help but hope the best for her as she stumbles her way through the English protocol and the intrigue that awaits in her new life.

The Ambassador's Mission The latest Black Magician fantasy is a super tale filled with several great twists that make the second tale in the prequel saga (see The Magicians Apprentice) a standout. The story line is fast-paced with two well written prime subplots starring mom and son. This is a terrific magical whodunit where mom the Black Magician amateur sleuth investigates the killings and readers are shown a deep look at the culture of magically dominated Sachaka as seen through the lens of the missing son. The audience will relish this strong entry into the world of Trudi Canavan.

Table for Seven I also really loved hearing about the food all of the club members cooked. I honestly wish that Gaskell had included recipes at the end of the novel since there were several things being cooked that sounded delicious that I would want to try in real life. Overall a great read that I think will not disappoint. I hope that Gaskell will follow up on the dinner party club characters in a later novel. It would be nice to see how everyone is doing in the future.

Supernatural: Fresh Meat I do not have a lot of time to read these days but I ate this story like a starving man. This is an excellent work of fiction. Fan or not of the show, you will enjoy this story. As a total fan of this show, and the horror/dark fantasy genre, I highly recommend this book!

Sunset of the Gods

I bought this ebook directly from Baen and I'm not sure if this problem exists in the Amazon version but I was unable to change the font. The Baen version is formatted in a sans serif typeface which is a bit harder to read than a serif face... perhaps only my taste but I far prefer serif type when reading and that's one of the things I love about reading on my Kindle, I can change the typeface... just not in this book.

Spin What a fun read! It's not that there isn't angst and deep or serious issues threaded in and out of SPIN, but more that the author didn't weigh the novel down with those "issues," instead opting to keep the tone light, which I appreciated. I rooted for the MC, Kate - who self-denies her way into a hole, that is, until circumstances force her to face up to that denial and dig her way out, dirtied and spitting.

Skin Deep This is a fine book that gives you all the fun and saucy romantic bits with a good plot line and humor stuffed in all the bet places. I highly recommend this to all S. Kenyon readers and others who enjkoy suacy romance novels of varying stripes.

Paris The main player in the story is Paris itself. We learn about the building of the Eiffel tower, the Moulin Rouge, the impressionist painters and poets, the Palace of Versailles, the violence of the French Revolution, the couture clothing industry and countless more French associations. Paris's coat of arms contains a ship with the city's Latin motto," Whatever the storm, the ship sails on." Your visit to Paris will be clear sailing with splendid views.

Playing Patience I don't want to say much more and give anything away. Just trust me when I say it was a great book and that you need to read it..lol And the best part about it is it had an HEA!! The only thing I could complain about is I would have liked a longer epilogue but that is it.

Play With Me Piper Shelly really knows how to bring to life a quirky, but strong heroine. And she does it again in this fast and fun novella, Play With Me. I love how her female leads are strong, independent, and go after their guy. *Spoiler Alert: Poor Tony, he lost out on a great gal, but Ryan totally deserved the girl. I like how Piper gave Ryan the strong, but gentlemanly characteristics that make up a true hero. Kudos to Piper as she continues to touch the heart with her books.

My Only Exception Presley Sutton grew up with a jaded heart. She didn’t give her heart away to anyone —until Braden Worthington entered the picture. A tattooed heartthrob on the fast track to stardom, Braden is everything Presley‘s ever tried to avoid. Lead singer for the band, Chronic Need, Braden is known for his love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude and Presley is sure this time will be no different.

My Biker Bodyguard The writing is engaging and Turner manages to maintain a good level of suspense throughout the story. The tension between the hero and heroine sparks from the beginning and achieves a spine-tingling climax, leading to a satisfying conclusion. I found the heroine original in the sense that she's been brought up in a world of leather-clad, long-haired, tattooed, dangerous-looking characters. Turner shows us a different, refreshing perspective from the world of bikers. The romance scenes are handled with tact and subtlety and are sweet and steamy at the same time. Fans of romantic suspense will find in My Biker Bodyguard a joyful and interesting ride.

Maya's Notebook This is a book for anyone interested in Chile (both the historical period under the Pinochet regime and the contemporary Chile, where survivors have an uneasy relationship with those years), and for anyone who has ever been (or cared about) a teenager in trouble. Love is hard, and it hurts, but it can save us when we're lost, and Isabel Allende uses Maya's notebook to show us a way.

Little Wolves It is hard to read books like this right now (December 2012). We are all seeking answers as to what's going on out there with angry young men and guns. A novel like this one or Empire Falls can only give us a novelist's imagining of what's gone wrong. Let's hope we find more than just our stories to give us answers.

Life After Life Author Jill McCorkle manages to give readers a lyrical meditation on life and death through characters so thirddimensional they could stroll right off the page. LIFE AFTER LIFE is a page-turner with a number of thought-provoking layers that linger long after the last page is devoured, making it an emotionally gripping and satisfying read. Words fail to describe how much I loved this book I can only hope that many readers will experience it for themselves.

Knights: The Heart of Shadows The book had a nice pace. It showed growth of the main characters and sets up the next part of the story quite well. I am looking forward to the next book. It still kept the deep shadow in a bit of mystery and there is hope given at the end for a character was thought gone forever. The battles were a bit tame this time. Overall I still rate this book highly.

Knights: The Hand of Tharnin I thought this book was wonderful. I really enjoy reading the characters development. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

Knights: The Eye of Divinity I really enjoyed this book. I will read this series through to the end based soley off this first one. As an avid fantasy fiction reader and writer I highly recommend this for a good read.

Jessica's Seduction Jessica's Seduction is an erotic romance novella and the first in a hot new series. Jessica's mundane life as a receptionist takes a dramatic turn when Preston Frost comes to town. A successful travel and fashion photographer, self-assured Preston fills in as company head for his dad's refrigeration business when his father takes a holiday. With his good looks and excessive charm, Preston immediately makes a play for Jessica. After resisting him adamantly at first, Jessica soon succumbs to his advances, and the desires of her body and her heart. But can she risk falling for this enigmatic playboy?

In the Midst of Life A mixture of nursing stories, and stories of family and friends, with accompanying statistics and other background information on death and dying, this insightful work questions the manner in which we die in modern society and the prudence of modern medical intervention at the time of death. I found the information and stories within, to be at times sad, others beautiful, but always thought-provoking. This work raises important questions that every person living in a modern society should not only think about, but discuss with their family. Highly recommended!

Issue in Doubt David Sherman writes about Marines with the razor-sharp realism of one of their own." Jack Campbell, Best-Selling Author, Lost Fleet Series We are not alone! In exploring and colonizing the galaxy, humanity discovers evidence of eighteen sentient species. Seventeen of them had not developed interstellar travel. Those were destroyed by the species that did reach the stars. That space-faring eighteenth decimated the human colony on the Semi-Autonomous World Troy.

I Am Automaton This is a well-paced novel with I think a very broad appeal - much broader than just a straight horror. There are some interesting sci-fi style elements in there, particularly around what government's use, which I loved. The two lead characters are likeable personally I would have preferred a bit more nastiness but this book more than makes up for any short falls with its philosophical undercurrent. I don't want to tell the reader the analogies I read into it but you have a go when you read it and see.

Here With You (A Laurel Heights Novel) Once again I enjoyed my visit to Laurel Heights. This was the story of Nicole and Griffin. Nicole and Grif had been best friends since junior high. After High School Grif left to follow his dreams of being a singer. Nine years later he is back famous but having lost his passion for the music. He's in need of inspiration and Nicole has always been that for him.

The Enchanted Life of Adam Hope I loved this book. The voice of Evelyn drew me in and kept me close until the very end. I was sad to finish this book because that meant saying good-bye to the characters, the time, the place. I would have liked to have stayed there longer! This book is infused with wisdom, enchantment, the ordinary made extraordinary, all wrapped up in a wonderful, completely absorbing, and unexpected, page-turning, plot. The language is both exquisite and accessible. I don't know how to say this without sounding sappy (and this is not a sappy book at all) but it also has some of the most beautiful love and love-making scenes I've ever read - I felt I learned a lot about the beauty of life (and was slightly jealous) reading them.

The Domination of Diana

The story starts with Diana engaged to Troy but is also involved with Liam, who is dominating her, something that she has just realized to be what she needs yet she loves Troy. At Liam's demand she ends it with Troy but then changes her mind but Liam will not hear of it and whisks her away to the club to become one of the girls there.

The Bible Repairman and Other Stories As Harriet mentions and is true, many of these short stories were previously available in very small print runs. However, I'm a pretty big Tim Powers fan and only had half of these. The collection is excellent and the stories are interesting. They will definitely make more sense if you are familiar with Tim Power's conceits around ghosts, but should make sense to the new reader as well.

Reasons to Be Happy Even though this book is written for a Young Adult audience, Hannah's struggle with bulimia and her journey to break free and find herself will resonate with every woman who has ever battled self esteem issues, whether they were related to an eating disorder or not. Beautifully written, filled with inspiration and insight, this is a gem of a book.

Puppets This is the first book (actually audiobook) I've read by Hecht and I must say it's now one of my all-time favorites. Hecht keeps the wheels on the story right through the very end. Most fiction seems to disappoint by either being too long winded, too far-fetched, or by having a preposterous ending, but not here, this is good till the last drop.

Possessing the Grimstone An unknown enemy rises in the uncharted lands of the east, emerging from the mists of the Fifling sea. Armed with a powerful magical artifact thought lost over a thousand years ago, they’re destroying everything in their path. Yet hope remains, for this unstoppable evil only possesses one piece of this weapon, the Grimstone. Should they discover the remaining pieces, the world will fall.

Naughty Bits An Anthology of Short Erotic Fiction The stories in this erotic anthology get better and better with each story read. A nice mix of historic, animal and such that is both hot and romantic - I really enjoyed this book and I even went back a RE-READ a few of the stories - they were that good!

My Soul to Keep: Rise of the Fallen (Volume 1) This is a very fast paced story full of adventure, love, heartbreak, and strange powers. I really enjoyed Mr. Hayden's clean writing and compelling characters. Connor is a very well told main character full of real teen insecurities and strengths. You really feel Connor's emotions, are happy when he's happy and torn up when he's hurt. The story stands alone, but the ending hooks you in and leaves you anxious for the next book. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves YA Urban Fantasy with a nice touch of romance.

Murder Hooks a Mermaid I love cozy mysteries because there is usually a lot of suspense, a little romance and not the "scary so you can't sleep" violence. I always know that the ending will be good. There is also usually a few moments of comedy. This book has all of those and more. It is the 2nd book I've read by this author, and I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Midnight at Marble Arch: A Charlotte and Thomas Pitt Novel Thomas Pitt comes into his own at last as Commander of the Special Branch. The tale of the rape of several women is as controversial today as it was in the late 1890's. A very powerful story and one which I will certainly read again. Cannot wait for the next novel by Anne Perry. She is a true master of the written word

Last Wool and Testament: A Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery I just finished reading Last Wool and Testament cover to cover. Or should I say, iPad page to iPad page. There is definitely something for everyone here, including mystery, history, a little romantic tension, and a touch of the paranormal. Molly does a terrific job of being true to the East TN area in a very loving way all while spinning a tale that I couldn't put down. If you are involved in the textile arts in any way, you will appreciate the way she frames her story. If you aren't, you will learn that there is more to it than you ever dreamed. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Lance of Earth and Sky

The first novel of this series was incredible and I had difficulty putting it down. In this, the second in the trilogy, Hoffman has weaved together an entrancing, compelling story with characters that I care about and feel a great deal of affection towards. This is a complete story in and of itself, but if you've read the first the continuation of the major story arc will be welcomed.

Invasion: Colorado Vaughn Heppner has done an excellent job with this third Invasion novel. Fast paced combat action and political intrigue keep the reader glued to the very end. The worst thing about this book is knowing I have to wait for number 4.

Hillbilly Heart Reflective and honest in its approach, HILLBILLY HEART is the story of a dream fulfilled and a life lived in the spotlight and how you can be yourself in spite of it all. This is book that speaks to the heart and the ability we all have to use our gifts to change the world.

Herald of the Storm Welcome to Steelhaven...Under the reign of King Cael the Uniter, this vast cityport on the southern coast has for years been a symbol of strength, maintaining an uneasy peace throughout the Free States. But now a long shadow hangs over the city, in the form of the dread Elharim warlord, Amon Tugha. When his herald infiltrates the city, looking to exploit its dangerous criminal underworld, and a terrible dark magick that has long been buried once again begins to rise, it could be the beginning of the end.

Fairy Godmothers, Inc. Funny, romantic, and completely awesome. It's everything that all those fairy tales you read growing up should have been. Realistic and likeable people dealing with curses, spells, and glass shoes, but you still get a perfect happy ending. Got it, people? Why aren't you reading it already!!!

Desolate - The Complete Trilogy Read the trilogy over the weekend. Good story. Somehow never really clicked with Howard as a character or most of the other players in the story. But I would agree Dave the ex marine was interesting and could be developed. Overall a solid read. Agree with author at the end.. just too many characters at one point.

Emancipating Andie This is the book you need when you're tired of being raped by cliffhangers. The book you need when you want a break from the ones that Temple of Doom your heart, rip it out, and play hacky sack with it, putting it back a little darker than it was before. A book that doesn't push your limits. Don't get me wrong, I love all those things, but sometimes I need...I need...I need something else. This is something else.

Deliver Me "Deliver Me" delivers a satisfying, uncontrived love story with many laugh-out-loud moments. In addition to the two likeable main characters, the author treats us to many appealing side characters: Eli's two boisterous brothers, his matchmaking mother, Monica's fun-loving and loyal best friend, and a couple (Eli's patients) whose marriage may fail because of the wife's secret. The beautiful recovering city of New Orleans is almost a character in itself. Don't miss this debut novel by Farrah Rochon!

Complete El Borak The complete El Borak books...

Bobby on the Beat Pamela Rhodes, one of the first British policewomen, tells her fascinating story in Bobby on the Beat. Back in 1950 Pam became one of the first policewomen in the country. But the force's new female recruits faced a sceptical public in rural Yorkshire and even before they stepped out on the beat there were the prejudices of older male officers to overcome. Yet from the first Pam was thrust into the front line.

Blood of the Assassin The structure of the book is geared toward making the reader feel that progress is being made. Fifty-one chapters devoid of any fat are chock-full with action, intelligent dialogue and mesmerizing scenes. Russell keeps those chapters short which makes for agile reading. This book is entertaining, well-structured and incredibly well written. This book is not dependent on prior reading of the series. This book is not for those looking to fall asleep after reading a couple of chapters.

A Pound of Flesh (DCI Lorimer) Detective Inspector Lorimer's worst nightmare is a serial killer loose in his city but two serial killers operating at once in Glasgow is a nightmare come to life. Is there any link between the brutal slaying of prostitutes in the backstreets of the city and the methodical killing of several unconnected businessmen? Lorimer is never one to jump to conclusions, but something about these cases just doesn't add up. When the latest murder is that of a prominent politician, Lorimer finds the media's relentless scrutiny turned on his investigation. Psychologist Solly Brightman is helping with both cases, but someone within Lormer's team is unwittingly sabotaging their efforts by leaking confidential police information. Their whispers will cost lives.

A Plague of Zombies: An Outlander Novella I never get enough of Diana gabaldon's stories. This was a quick read, good, but too short! If you like her other books, you will like this.

A Deadly Grind (A Vintage Kitchen Mystery) I really enjoyed the historical significance of Jaymie's hometown of Queensville, nestled on the US-Canada border, and the "Tea with the Queen" event. I hope further books in the series feature more of the town's festivals, especially Dickens' Days at Christmas!

Jake West - The Estian Alliance "The Estian Alliance" is the third, and concluding, entry in Author Webb's "Jake West Trilogy," so the question naturally arises, is it necessary to have first read "Keeper of the Stones" and "The Warriors of Heynai"? The technical answer is no: Mr. Webb generously provides us with a Prologue delineating the background of the trilogy, and summarizing some of the essential points. But my personal thinking is: why would you want to miss out on two/thirds of Mr. West's smooth and enticing storytelling, and on Jake's story as he is living it, along with best pal Ben and the many unusual individuals he encounters?

The Fall Claire McGowan can certainly write well and there is enough to enjoy in the book to make only three stars rather churlish, but I can't really recommend this beyond a light, disposable read.

The Keeper of the Stones My only minor (and very personal) gripe is the inner monologues that appear every so often, which came across more detailed than necessary, although it could just be that I speak to myself in a abnormally simplistic manner. This is only a small gripe and one that doesn't detract from the superb story and vivid worlds that Webb has created. Can't wait to get stuck into the next installment.

The Little Way of Ruthie Leming: A Southern Girl, a Small Town, and the Secret of a Good Life We have all been in at least one relationship, whether by blood, marriage, or friendship, that will be illuminated in our hearts when reading this book. If you have always loved God, given up on God, or are trying to find your way back to God, you need to read this. If you have escaped the shackles of your history or have joyfully embraced them, you need to read this. If you want to learn from mistakes instead of repeating them, you need to read this. Who shouldn't read this? Anyone who doesn't want his heart touched and, quite possibly, his life changed for the better.

The Other Fish in the Sea I absolutely love the way Jenn Cooksey writes! I have anxiously awaited the release of the second book in this series and was not disappointed. The character development in this story is wonderful. The only thing that upset me is I have to wait (AGAIN) for the next one. A definite must read!

The Piper Could not put this book down! Scary stayed up late reading it. I've been looking for a great ghost story and here it is! You won't be able to put it down.

The Safest Place There is something about this dark story about ordinary, everyday people that is utterly compelling and very hard to put down. I found myself almost screaming at Jane at time, her behaviour is so frustrating and the reader knows that things are just not going to work out, even if the character pretends not to. The shock though, for the reader, is that the incident that finally breaks Jane is totally unexpected, and never quite resolved.

The Seven Swords I really enjoyed the parts with Qwon where she was being held by Dred along with the fairy Shallot. The fairies in this story expel scents that have different effects on their victims. Shallot has an incredibly sweet scent that renders people stupified. Dred appears to have a crush on Qwon so he doesn't make the best kidnapper. Given that he's doing it at his mother's insistence doesn't really help matters either.

Smuggler Nation: How Illicit Trade Made America 2013 | ISBN: 0199746885 | English | 472 Pages | PDF | 3.75 MB

America is a smuggler nation. Our long history of illicit imports has ranged from West Indies molasses and Dutch gunpowder in the 18th century, to British industrial technologies and African slaves in the 19th century, to French condoms and Canadian booze in the early 20th century, to Mexican workers and Colombian cocaine in the modern era. Contraband capitalism, it turns out, has been an integral part of American capitalism. Providing a sweeping narrative history from colonial times to the present, Smuggler Nation is the first book to retell the story of America--and of its engagement with its neighbors and the rest of the world--as a series of highly contentious battles over clandestine commerce. As Peter Andreas demonstrates in this provocative and fascinating account, smuggling has played a pivotal and too often overlooked role in America's birth, westward expansion, and economic development, while anti-smuggling campaigns have dramatically enhanced the federal government's policing powers. The great irony, Andreas tells us, is that a country that was born and grew up through smuggling is today the world's leading anti-smuggling crusader. In tracing America's long and often tortuous relationship with the murky underworld of smuggling, Andreas provides a much-needed antidote to today's hyperbolic depictions of out-of-control borders and growing global crime threats. Urgent calls by politicians and pundits to regain control of the nation's borders suffer from a severe case of historical amnesia, nostalgically implying that they were ever actually under control. This is pure mythology, says Andreas. For better and for worse, America's borders have always been highly porous. Far from being a new and unprecedented danger to America, the illicit underside of globalization is actually an old American tradition. As Andreas shows, it goes back not just decades but centuries. And its impact has been decidedly double-edged, not only subverting U.S. laws but also helping to fuel America's evolution from a remote British colony to the world's pre-eminent superpower.

A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin ISBN: 0345518519 | 2009 | EPUB | 384 pages | 2 MB Official Book Club Selection is Kathy Griffin unplugged, uncensored, and unafraid to dish about what really happens on the road, away from the cameras, and at the star party after the show. (It’s also her big chance to score that coveted book club endorsement she’s always wanted. Are you there, Oprah? It’s me, Kathy.) Kathy Griffin has won Emmys for her reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, been nominated for a Grammy, worked and walked every red carpet known to man, and rung in the New Year with Anderson Cooper. But the legions of fans who pack Kathy’s sold-out comedy shows have heard only part of her remarkable story. Writing with her trademark wit, the feisty comic settles a few old scores, celebrates the friends and mentors who helped her claw her way to the top, and shares insider gossip about celebrity behavior—the good, the bad, and the very ugly. She recounts the crazy ups and downs of her own career and introduces us to some of the supertalented people she encountered before they got famous (or, in some cases, after fame went to their heads). Word to the wise: If you’ve ever crossed Kathy Griffin at some point in your life, check the index for your name. Along the way, Kathy reveals intimate details about her life before and after she made the big time. She opens up about everything from growing up with a dysfunctional family in suburban Illinois to bombing as a young comedian in L.A., from her well-publicized plastic surgery disasters to her highly publicized divorce, and more. Civil War Humor English | 2010 | ISBN: 1604737476 | PDF | 160 pages | 7.3 MB A thorough account of the extraordinary breadth of comedic output during America's Civil War. In Civil War Humor, author Cameron C. Nickels examines the various forms of comedic popular artifacts produced in America from 1861 to 1865 and looks at how wartime humor was created, disseminated, and received by both sides of the conflict. Broadsides, newspaper journalism, sheet music covers, lithographs, political cartoons, light verse, printed envelopes, comic valentines, humor magazines, and penny dreadfuls---from and for the Union and the Confederacy---are analyzed at length.

Nickels argues that the war coincided with the rise of inexpensive mass printing in the United States and thus subsequently with the rise of the country's widely distributed popular culture. As such, the war was as much a "paper war"---involving the use of publications to disseminate propaganda and ideas about the Union's and the Confederacy's positions---as one taking place on battlefields. For both sides, humor deflated pretensions, coped with the sobering realities of war, and established political stances and strategies of critiquing them. Civil War Humor explores how the combatants portrayed Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln, life on the home front, battles, and African Americans. Civil War Humor reproduces over sixty illustrations---including eight in full color---and texts created during the war and provides close readings of these materials. At the same time, it places this corpus of comedy in the context of wartime history, economies, and tactics. This comprehensive overview examines humor's role in shaping and reflecting the cultural imagination of the nation during its most tumultuous period.

Ever-Flowing Streams: Tapping into Healing Energy 2011 | ASIN: B004W3FZB0 | 125 pages | EPUB, MOBI, PDF | 3,9 MB 1st Place Spirituality & Religion Category Winner E-Festival of Books 2012 What is "energy healing" and how can it change your life? "Ever-Flowing Streams: Tapping into Healing Energy" follows the path of one woman on a journey from middle class mom to Reiki Master. A lifelong medical mystery leads to studying alternative medicine traditions including Chinese herbs, essential oils, Eastern medicine, and past life therapy. In 2005 an encounter with a Reiki energy worker becomes a life changing healing experience. Ultimately, the book encourages readers to discover their own healing capabilities and take charge of their own physical and mental well-being. From the "Prologue" I sat down for lunch that summer day of 2005 feeling perfectly fine. Gazing out my dining room window, I enjoyed watching a pair of squirrels frolic along the fence between the giant oaks in my Oklahoma backyard. In the living room, the television hummed a Sunday afternoon football game. My husband would soon be snoring. I read a book and munched a few potato chips with my sandwich. With no warning, pain shot up my neck and into my jaw. Ignore it. I took another bite. More pain, instant swelling below my ear. Great, just what I need, I thought. Another attack. Though I hadn't experienced a full blown attack in several years, I recognized the familiar symptoms. Swollen glands and shooting pain that made eating impossible. I puzzled over what had set it off. Some might say "food allergy." But after forty years' experience, I knew the physical symptoms were merely a manifestation of a spiritual mystery.

As I sat cradling my sore neck, staring at my uneaten lunch, I heard a command in my head. "Go see that woman. This has something to do with a past life. Go see that woman." Oh, for heaven's sake. I flipped the book I'd been reading over and gazed at the cover—"One Soul, Many Lives" by Roy Stemman. The book chronicled case studies of reincarnation. Brother, was I prone to the power of suggestion, or what? My spiritual and intellectual curiosity had led me to many subjects, including reincarnation. It wasn't a new concept to me. I'd read quite a few of the popular books during the 1970's. There's a certain fundamental sense of order and justice about karma. Didn't Jesus say "As you sow, so shall you reap"? Wasn't Dr. Laura always popping off about accepting the consequences of our actions? Reincarnation turns life into one big game of "Truth or Consequences" through time and space. Still, wondering about reincarnation was sort of like pondering alien abductions. Maybe they were real, but I hadn't personally been picked up by a UFO in a corn field. As my neck throbbed, I wasn't in the mood to ponder either ET's or Eastern philosophy. Another attack was upon me and it hurt like hell. Going to a regular doctor wouldn't help. I'd been down that road many times before. The thought commanded me again. GO SEE THAT WOMAN! "That Woman" was an English Reiki therapist named Helen.

Falling Upwards: How We Took to the Air ISBN: 0307379663, 0007386925 | 2013 | MOBI | 416 pages | 14 MB Falling Upwards tells the story of the enigmatic group of men and women who first risked their lives to take to the air, and so discovered a new dimension of human experience. Why they did it, what their contemporaries thought of them, and how their flights revealed the secrets of our planet in wholly unexpected ways is its subject. Dramatic sequences move from the early Anglo-French balloon rivalries; the crazy firework flights of beautiful Sophie Blanchard; the revelatory ascents over the great Victorian cities and sprawling industrial towns of Northern Europe; the astonishing long-distance voyages of the American entrepreneur John Wise, and the French photographer Felix Nadar, to the terrifying high-altitude flights of James Glaisher FRS who rose above seven miles without oxygen, helping to establish the new science of meteorology as well as the environmental notion--so important to us today--of a "fragile" planet. Balloons were also used to observe the horrors of modern battle during the American Civil War (including a memorable flight by General Custer). Readers will also discover the many writers and dreamers--from Mary Shelley to Edgar Allan Poe, from Charles Dickens to Jules Verne--who felt the imaginative impact of flight and allowed it to soar in their work. Most of all, through the strange allure of the great balloonists, Holmes offers another of his subtle portraits of human endeavor, recklessness, and vision. (With 24 pages of color illustrations, and black-and-white illustrations throughout.)

A Prince Among Stones: That Business with The Rolling Stones and Other Adventures English | ISBN: 1620400340 | 2013 | EPUB | 272 pages | 1,5 MB 'He is a great financial mind for the market. He plays that like I play guitar. As long as there's a smile on Rupert's face, I'm cool.'Keith Richards on Prince Rupert LoewensteinIn 1968 Mick Jagger couldn't understand why the Rolling Stones had no money. The man he asked to help was a German prince, a merchant banker. They forged an unlikely alliance which re-invented the business of rock'n'roll. As a youthquake shook the Establishment, Prince Rupert Loewenstein thrived in both worlds, never relinquishing his elegance or decorum. For nearly forty years Prince Rupert worked with the Stones as 'a combination of bank manager, psychiatrist and nanny', usually enthralled but often bemused and exasperated. Coolly impartial, dryly humorous, this is a refreshingly different take on the rock'n'roll world from within its inner sanctum.

50 Licks: Myths and Stories from Half a Century of the Rolling Stones English | ISBN: 1608199215 | 2013 | EPUB | 288 pages | 3,6 MB On July 12, 1962, London's Marquee Club debuted a new act, a blues-inflected rock band named after a Muddy Waters song - The Rolling Stones. They were a hard-edged band with a flair for the dramatic, styling themselves as the devil's answer to the sainted Beatles.A young, inexperienced producer named Andrew Loog Oldham first heard the band at a session he remembers with four words: 'I fell in love.' Though unfamiliar with such basic industry practices as mixing a recording, he made a brilliant decision - he pitched the band to a studio that had passed on the Beatles. Afraid to make the same mistake twice, they signed the Stones, and began a history-making career. This is just one of the 50 classic stories that make up 50 Licks. Many are never-before told, some are from exclusive interviews - including with elusive bassist Bill Wyman - and all are illustrated and told by the people who lived them.Half a century on, the Rolling Stones are still the greatest band working. And this is the book to commemorate their unparalleled achievement in rock music.

Four-Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables from Your Home Garden All Year Long 1999 | 236 Pages | ISBN: 1890132276 | EPUB | 4 MB From first sentence to last, Coleman's ( The New Organic Gardener ) book is a delight--an earnest guide written with an impish sense of humor. It will refresh anyone who wants to get the most from a vegetable garden yet doesn't want to devote too much time and energy to the process. Apparently Coleman thoroughly enjoys every phase of gardening-from planting crops to weeding. Who else has ever suggested, only half in jest, dancing with a hoe? Or keeping a pair of ducks for pest patrol? This is that kind of book. It's also a book full of valuable information on how to harvest fresh vegetables and salad ingredients literally year-round--yet without an expensive greenhouse or indoor light garden setup. Coleman combines succession planting (small sowings three or more times, rather than one big endeavor) with cold-frame growing in the winter months. He includes how-tos for building simple cold-frames. Given the fact that he lives in Maine, his advice seems all the more reliable. He believes in simplicity ("If what I am doing in the garden seems complicated, it is probably wrong"), seasonality (tomatoes in summer, broccoli in fall, mache in February) and diplomacy in the garden (which "has more to teach us than just how to grow food"). Here, his philosophy of organic growing is shared easily. The book concludes with an extensive chapter on the vegetables that comprise his "cast of characters."
