Upon a Mystic Tide The storyline is character driven by the living couple and the matchmaking spirit who with his human helper struggles to bring this couple in love back together. Although the story line stands alone, it behooves the audience to read Ms. Hinze's entertaining Beyond the Misty Shores (written as Ms. Barrett) and The Perfect Stranger by Rosalyn Alsobrook to better understand the magic of Seascape.
Unbuttoned (A Silver Creek Romance) Maisey Yates is a very talented author and has created the perfect small-town romance about two people that found love once they learned to take a leap of faith. I was pleasantly surprised with this novella and I can't wait to see what is in store for the residents of Silver Creek in the next book, Unexpected.
Tyringham Park It is 1917 and Charlotte Blackshaw is only eight years old when her little sister Victoria vanishes from the magnificent country estate of Tyringham Park. The feverish search for Victoria soon uncovers jealousies and deceits that the inhabitants of the grand house have fought for years to keep hidden. As Charlotte grows, she believes that her mother and others wish that it was she who'd disappeared, rather than pretty, enchanting Victoria.
The Zigzag Effect Sage must figure out who to trust, who's hiding secrets, what's real and what's just clever trickery. Because when a person truly disappears, it is likely that there are more sinister elements at work than magic...
The Yellow Sun This is an amazing book I would recommend it to anyone. Even if you're not into the occult world of vampires and werewolves. Its far to easy to get caught up in the world Elizabeth Darker creates. You can literally see it playing out before your eyes. Defiantly recommend this to everyone! You'll be glad you did!
Wicked Witch Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery) I feel so cozy and comfortable and secure in Lucy's house. I feel right at home in this comfortable, warm, cozy house. Lucy is a domestic, loving mother, wife, grandmother, friend, and citizen. Tinker's Cove is a better place because Lucy is there. I love Lucy. Her person and her life is so warm and cozy and secure and comfortable. I love reading these books, and I could spend all day in her house. Thank goodness there is no Elizabeth in this book. She has already left home. There is only one flaw in this series, and that is Elizabeth. She is the most horrible, hateful person ever. It's hard to believe that such a nice, wonderful person such as Lucy gave birth to the horrible monster Elizabeth.
The Windvale Sprites This book was cute. I was very disappointed when Mackenzie's first book, Ragetti's secret diary, was never released. I knew it would've been funny coming from him. This book definitely proves that! And I loved the illustrations of the sprites. They looked more like space aliens than just sparkling, fluttery, flying people, a relief from the stereotypical design of fairies. Looking forward to more from this talented artist!
The Widow Waltz I turn page after page, reading about women I do not wish to know well in real life. Then it's over. I stretch. A gin-andtonic might be nice about now. And dinner at the kind of restaurant Ben used to take Georgia.
The Valhalla Call (Warrior's Wings) The author has done another excellent job! He has left the ending with enough questions to allow for another book which I fervently hope he writes. I enjoyed learning more of the alliance universe along with the new "toys" Aida has to play with in completing her latest mission. We also get to see a return of Captain ( now Major) Ton who was introduced in the previous book.
The Time Between This was A beautiful piece of artistry. I always feel wiser After reading Karen White's books. I love the different relationships of everyone in the book and the impact of the choices we make. A must read!!!!!!
The Last Gospel Same book as The Lost Tomb (British Edition), I didn't find any of the characters lacking development or unbelievable. Lucky yes, but unbelievable, no. I did wonder if I was at a disadvantage though, since the characters seem to have been carried from the previous two novels, which I have not read, so I may have missed some good background information. As a whole though, I love this book.
The Healer Tapani is a great character, very likable, very smart and willing to go to any lengths to find his wife. Several of the minor characters, like a sympathetic police detective and a life saving immigrant cab driver are excellent as well. The plot, the actual mystery, is good, even if with a point or two that stretch believability. The writing is beautiful, odd to say about a story set in such a harsh world, with the translator, Lola Rogers, doing a fine job.
The Cat's Table Newspaper columnist Niki Devlin isn't thrilled about following a bunch of city slickers on their holiday cattle drive, and even less so when she discovers that this job will take her back to the homeland she's tried so hard to forget: Wyoming, USA. All that stands between finishing her assignment and getting back to New York is a pair of sexy grey eyes flashing from under the brim of a cowboy hat. The lean, rugged form of trail boss Zack Weston makes Niki want everything she doesn't want: Wyoming, a good man, and love.Zack likes being just a cowboy to Niki. His name, his political ambitions, and his ranching empire are all but forgotten as he rides alongside this beautiful, gutsy woman who makes him realize what he's been missing. Once, tragedy and bitterness drove her away from this place he will always call home. Is the passion they awaken under starry skies enough to convince her that wherever this journey leads them, they belong together?
The Abbey This book was very good! I didn't really expect much, considering it was only 99 cents. But when I started reading, I didn't want to put it down. I absolutely fell in love with the characters. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Quarantine Be forewarned, this is not light reading material: Egan demands full intellectual participation from his reader, and a reader without a basic understanding of quantum mechanics and the many-worlds theory might not enjoy Quarantine as thoroughly as someone with that background. But if you're willing to put in the effort, this is a richly rewarding book to read.
Point and Shoot For anyone looking for a well written, thrilling, breathtaking story, I highly recommend Point & Shoot. I do suggest you read the first two books. Not just to get the whole story, but because they are all fantastic fiction.
Pirate Somali pirates seem to be very much in fashion with thriller writers, Stephen Leather and Matt Lynn have also both produced recent and excellent thrillers, what is nice is that all three have managed their own particular take on things. Here we see the best of Stratton who, while a little introspective at times, shows the full range of his special forces skill and ingenuity. And it was also great to see the wider Special Forces team getting involved too, far too often it seems like there is no wider organisation in these types of stories. Anyway, interesting plot with varied and well paced action. This was great stuff and I enjoyed the welcome return to form for both author and lead character.
Permutation City The second half of the book relies very heavily on the author's intriguing "Dust Theory". While I don't necessarily find the idea very compelling as a physical theory, it does touch on some ideas that could very well have validity, such as the notion that a universe will exist if it has internal mathematical consistency (the Platonic view to its logical conclusion). Unfortunately at some points in the story the Dust Theory feels like a cheap trick, a bit of magic that can push the story in whatever arbitrary direction the author desires. In this respect the plot is like a French art film: locally rational, globally irrational. Despite the detractions, I enjoyed the book immensely and found the ending surprisingly poignant. Read it especially if you are intrigued by the notion of strong AI.
Partners in Crime In this surprise-filled debut, T. S. Hubbert, recently retired personnel manager at a prestigious Wall Street bank, doesn't even have time to sleep off his farewell party hangover before his frantic former boss is on the phone. An executive at Sterling & Sterling has been stabbed to death, and T.S. must deal with press and public. Dismayed by the police lieutenant's tunnel vision, T.S. and his sleuthing sidekick, 84-year-old Auntie Lil, conduct their own investigation of this and two subsequent VIP murders. Sterling & Sterling is no unbesmirched institution, and the two energetic retirees discover ugly skeletons in the corporate closet. Shaky grammar and spotty characterization while Auntie Lil is a delightfully feisty "snoop sister," the portrait of T.S. lacks focus and credibility weaken the superior plot in this first of projected series by a pseudonymous former employee of a Wall Street firm.
Orion and King Arthur Overall, Ben Bova wrote a very solid Orion adventure, but it didn't blow me away. But I wasn't disappointed either. I liked the ending very much, and it left me wanting more. Which it seems Bova alludes to.
Moonbane Overall this was a very fast and intense read, and I cannot recommend it enough if you are interested in tale of extinction, lycanthropy and man's struggle against a force that makes his base, his core, the soul of his existence Earth, the home of man an unwelcoming place to be, and with the only way out to simply give up and fall back into the animals claws. This writer is certainly on top of my list, for spawning such amazing pieces of literary fiction. I love horror movies with werewolves, but reading it in a book felt like having the wind knocked out of you, I had a blast.
MILA 2.0: Origins: The Fire From the pages we quickly learn how devoted Mila is to her family. Her love and loyalty plays a big part in this. It's such a quick book, but one thing I found totally interesting was how at the end we start to get a feel for the traumatizing emotions that are going to come back big time in Mila. So, it's a very quick read, but a totally sweet intro to the Main Event. With that said...meet Mila 2.0!
Matt Archer: Legend (Matt Archer #3) What I really like about this book is that you see how Matt Archer has grown up from the 14 year old he was when these books first started. You also see how the other characters around him has grown up. Like his best friend Will. I
am not one who likes to put spoilers in a review. But I will put in a hint. You will never guess who shows up at the end of the book...
Love Thy Neighbor Love Thy Neighbor follows the characters Ghost and Nat, who readers fell in love with during book one, Friend-Zoned. Fans of book one will not be disappointed with Belle Aurora's second instalment. LTN is a story filled with threedimensional characters, a creative plot and a level of hotness that will leave readers clambering for a cool shower.
Ink Ink turned out to be a fantastic book, despite my expectations to the contrary. If book two were available now, I would not hesitate to read it right away. I highly recommend this one to fans of Japanese or Korean pop culture!
I Kissed a Girl I Kissed a Girl Anthology gives the reader a nice rounded look at erotica presented with a virgin lesbian viewpoint. These fine diverse stories jump from college to boarding school, from talking tigers to lady's maids, from ancient history to modern times, encompassing all sexual preferences. There's something for everyone here. Dip in and be delighted.
How (Not) to Find a Boyfriend Sophomore Nora Fulbright is the most talented and popular new cheerleader on the Riverbend High cheer squad. Never mind that she used to be queen of the nerds a chess prodigy who answered every question first, aced every test and repelled friends at every turn because this year, Nora is determined to fully transition from social pupa to full blown butterfly, even if it means dumbing down her entire schedule. But when funny, sweet and very cute Adam moves to town and steals Nora’s heart with his untra-smarts and illegally cute dimple, Nora has a problem. How can she prove to him that she’s not a complete airhead?
Heat Wave - Part 2 - Erotika Short Stories for Women This read has every good quality in a book that is sought after. The characters are all unique and are a part of many crazy plot twists and and scenes that leave you wanting more and more. There isn't a single chapter that doesn't lack
the great detail that paints a vivid picture of every scene and all the important parts of the environment right into your mind.
Hearts Awakening I recommend everyone who loves historical fiction to take a trip back into time and meet Ellie & Jackson. Reading their captivating story will take your breath away and strengthen your faith. So grab a copy of this 5 star, charming story about a marriage of convenience and fall in love with new faith and new friends!
Health Agent 'Health Agent' is truly a fantastic read. There's horror, suspenseful detective work, scifi, otherworldly surroundings, superb character development, and of course, Punktown (one of my absolute favorite places to visit). The story is fastpaced, riddled with many interesting characters(each clearly individual and fully fleshed out), and developing plot twists and changes that keep you reading long into the night. Jeffrey Thomas is one of my favorite authors. His style is flawless, his imagination is incredible, and his ability to paint his imagination into the form of the written word is utterly genius. His creation of Punktown (a fictional city on another planet, used in many other novels such as Everybody Scream!, Monstrocity, Deadstock, and Blue War) is brilliant you can feel the mean streets beneath your feet, smell its crafty atmosphere, and fully visualize its teeming population - all without effort through Thomas's smoothly flowing prose and dialogues.
Halos The characters are lovingly developed, continuing to grow throughout the book as they learn more about God, themselves, & those around them. I found myself rooting for each one as they faced minor to catastrophic challenges. Even Carl, who I was pre-disposed to dislike, had gained my empathy by the end. This is a beautiful story about God, love, forgiveness, faith, & miracles. The characters wormed their way into my heart & left me aching for their happiness. I personally could have used another chapter or two perhaps merely an epilogue. I was not ready to let this story end.
Golden Girl: The American Fairy Trilogy Book 2 Callie LeRoux has put her grimy, harrowing trip from the depths of the Dust Bowl behind her. Her life is a different kind of exciting now: she works at a major motion picture studio among powerful studio executives and stylish stars. Still nothing can distract her from her true goal. With help from her friend Jack and guidance from the great singer Paul Robeson, she will find her missing mother. But as a child of prophecy and daughter of the legitimate heir to the Unseelie throne, Callie poses a huge threat to the warring fae factions who've attached themselves to the most powerful people in Hollywood . . . and they are all too aware that she's within their reach.
Glass Hearts
Lisa De Jong nailed this story. I absolutely LOVED the first book however book two was even better than I could ever imagine. I highly recommend this story to anyone that loves a great, down to earth, real book about finding true love.
Four Live Rounds Crouch is my kind of writer. Suspenseful, eerie, with some hair-raising endings. Kindle is the perfect platform for short stories, and if you like crime fiction it doesn't get any better than this...
Fire: The Witch Hunt Continues It becomes more and more obvious that something is very, very wrong in Engelsfors. The past is woven together with the present. The living meet the dead. THE CHOSEN ONES are tied even closer together and are once again reminded that magic cannot ease unhappy love or mend broken hearts.
Fault Lines This book has a lot of promising character work in it, but is undone by its own lack of subtlety. I was drawn in to the characters' lives during the first half of the book, and found myself caring about what happened with the mother-sisterdaughter trio. My involvement remained, even though I was put off by the author's tendency to beat the reader over the head with points she felt were important. I could have gleaned much about the main character through her actions instead, I was told, over and over, what kind of person she was. I kept wanting to edit those passages down "I get it already!" Still, I was happily reading along. Unfortunately, a little more than midway through the book, the story grew more and more melodramatic. A relationship was developed a pivotal point for the main character but it pulled her out of the family context and into an overblown, false-feeling love story. Again, it's the author beating the reader over the head with what could have had more power through subtlety. The book kept me reading, but I couldn't help but wish that these interesting characters were given a more thoughtful and restrained treatment.
Far Far Away I highly recommend Far Far Away for anyone in its intended age group and older. Younger readers might get scared at certain points in the book, but readers in the middle grade audience and adults will definitely enjoy it.
Deadly Pink This is a very quick read that the author has paced just perfectly to ensure that even the most reluctant of readers will be unable to put it down. The world building is spot on, with some deft touches of humor that had me laughing out loud. It's nice to see strong female characters against this video game backdrop, giving a nod to all those girl gamers out there. Emily is dealing with some pretty serious problems that she's trying to run away from, and I liked how the author handled things so realistically. She gives no easy way outs, and reinforces the fact that even though there may be some pretty extreme consequences for misdeeds, anything can be dealt with and handled when you face things honestly.
Cold Steel (The Spiritwalker Trilogy) Cold Steel really was an exuberant, wild ride across faerie realsm, oceans and continents, through wars and magical duels, and for all its length, the story was tight and satisfying. I identified with the characters and enjoyed it tremendously. My one caveat might be that there was a little too much political rhetoric (of the "shall we be downtrodden or shall we be free" variety) but even that was handled quite well.
Circle of Honor (The Scottish Crown Series, Book 1) Gwenyth Comyn, Sir John's daughter, vowed not to rest until her father's kilelr is dead. She has been taken captive and is a servant in Leod's keep. When she is brutally assaulted, she accuses Adam, and is given the choice of having him killed or forcing him into a sham, handfast marriage. She saves his life by choosing marriage, but can a knight of
Robert the Bruce and the daughter of Sir John Comyn live in peace? Circle of Honor will grip the reader from the first page to the last.
Churchill's Angels It is 1939 and in the town of Dartford, Grace, Sally and twins Daisy and Rose, are determined to do their bit when war is declared. Grace, desperate to get away from her sad home life, signs up for the Land Army. Sally’s dream of stage school is thwarted by the war, but she finds hope in an unexpected place. For the twins, nothing has prepared them for the shock of the blitz and the nightly raids on their hometown. Rose signs on at the local munitions factory, but with her brothers away fighting, Daisy is needed at home in her father’s greengrocer shop.
Blind Fury The latest Anna Travis British police procedural (see Silent Scream and Deadly Intent) is an excellent investigative tale, but not for readers who prefer story lines faster than the speed of light. Instead Blind Fury provides an incredibly detailed and profound methodical whodunit. Travis holds the investigation together as the prime focus of the plot fans will recognize she has matured professionally to the point where she leads, but her personal life remains shaky at best as she makes poor choices.
Better Off Dead in Deadwood This newest installment in the Deadwood series has everything that keeps us coming back for more: mystery, laughout-loud dialogue, Doc, enduring friendships, ghosts, great local flavor, Doc, memorable characters, fantastic story pacing, Doc you get the picture. Ann's storytelling is top notch and you can't go wrong with any of her books. If you are on the fence about whether to give her a try, hop on over and join those of us that have found this wonderful gem. Ann's mind is a wonderful place to share.
A Twist of Orchids: A Death in the Dordogne Mystery The third Death in Dordgone amateur sleuth mystery (see Deadly Slipper and The Orchid Shroud) is an enjoyable dueling investigative tale. The lead couple's personal issues as a new middle aged couple trying to adapt to living with a lover are amusing though extremely minor especially compared with the deep look at Muslims living in France. Fans of French modern day mysteries will enjoy A Twist of Orchids as neither of the lead couple finds their inquiry as simple as expected almost as hard as they discover living with another adult.
A Place at the Table Susan Rebecca White's first two books are gems insightful, warm, and eminently readable. Now, in her third novel, she expands her story-telling territory across generations and families, connected by food (yes, there are recipes in the book!), love, and self-discovery.
A Dark Mind (The Lizzy Gardner Series #3) Just can't get enough of lizzy and her girls. It is great to read how lizzy is taking back her life. This story had so many twist and turns that kept me on my toes! This is a must read!

Going to Tehran: Why the United States Must Come to Terms with the Islamic Republic of Iran ISBN: 0805094199 | 2013 | EPUB/MOBI | 496 pages | 763 KB/1 MB An eye-opening argument for a new approach to Iran, from two of America's most informed and influential Middle East experts Less than a decade after Washington endorsed a fraudulent case for invading Iraq, similarly misinformed and politically motivated claims are pushing America toward war with Iran. Today the stakes are even higher: such a war could break the back of America's strained superpower status. Challenging the daily clamor of U.S. saber rattling, Flynt and Hillary Mann Leverett argue that America should renounce thirty years of failed strategy and engage with Iran—just as Nixon revolutionized U.S. foreign policy by going to Beijing and realigning relations with China. Former analysts in both the Bush and Clinton administrations, the Leveretts offer a uniquely informed account of Iran as it actually is today, not as many have caricatured it or wished it to be. They show that Iran's political order is not on the verge of collapse, that most Iranians still support the Islamic Republic, and that Iran's regional influence makes it critical to progress in the Middle East. Drawing on years of research and access to high-level officials, Going to Tehran explains how Iran sees the world and why its approach to foreign policy is hardly the irrational behavior of a rogue nation.
A bold call for new thinking, the Leveretts' indispensable work makes it clear that America must "go to Tehran" if it is to avert strategic catastrophe.

Ungifted - Intelligence Redefined 2013 | ISBN: 0465025544 | English | 424 Pages | EPUB | 2.20 MB Child prodigies. Gifted and Talented Programs. Perfect 2400s on the SAT. Sometimes it feels like the world is conspiring to make the rest of us feel inadequate. Those children tapped as possessing special abilities will go on to achieve great things, while the rest of us have little chance of realizing our dreams. Right? In Ungifted, cognitive psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman—who was relegated to special education as a child—sets out to show that the way we interpret traditional metrics of intelligence is misguided. Kaufman explores the latest research
in genetics and neuroscience, as well as evolutionary, developmental, social, positive, and cognitive psychology, to challenge the conventional wisdom about the childhood predictors of adult success. He reveals that there are many paths to greatness, and argues for a more holistic approach to achievement that takes into account each young persons personal goals, individual psychology, and developmental trajectory. In so doing, he increases our appreciation for the intelligence and diverse strengths of prodigies, savants, and late bloomers, as well as those with dyslexia, autism, schizophrenia, and ADHD. Combining original research, anecdotes, and a singular compassion, Ungifted proves that anyone—even those without readily observable gifts at any single moment in time—can become great.

The Gluten-Free Edge: A Nutrition and Training Guide for Peak Athletic Performance and an Active GlutenFree Life English | ISBN: 161519052X | edition 2012 | EPUB | 384 pages | 3.4 MB Since the advent of sport, athletes have worked to gain an edge on their competition—to look, feel, and perform their best—through both training and nutrition. Today, science is increasingly showing the negative impact that gluten, a protein in wheat, barley, and rye, can have on health. For the estimated 30 million Americans with forms of gluten intolerance, such as celiac disease, this all-too-common protein can cause gastrointestinal trouble, inflammation, muscle fatigue, and mental fog that hinder an active lifestyle and negatively impact athletic performance. The Last Train to Zona Verde: My Ultimate African Safari ISBN: 061883933X | 2013 | EPUB | 368 pages | 2 MB Following the success of the acclaimed Ghost Train to the Eastern Star and The Great Railway Bazaar, The Last Train to Zona Verde is an ode to the last African journey of the world's most celebrated travel writer. “Happy again, back in the kingdom of light,” writes Paul Theroux as he sets out on a new journey through the continent he knows and loves best. Theroux first came to Africa as a twenty-two-year-old Peace Corps volunteer, and the pull of the vast land never left him. Now he returns, after fifty years on the road, to explore the little-traveled territory of western Africa and to take stock both of the place and of himself. His odyssey takes him northward from Cape Town, through South Africa and Namibia, then on into Angola, wishing to head farther still until he reaches the end of the line. Journeying alone through the greenest continent, Theroux encounters a world increasingly removed from both the itineraries of tourists and the hopes of postcolonial independence movements. Leaving the Cape Town townships, traversing the Namibian bush, passing the browsing cattle of the great sunbaked heartland of the savanna, Theroux crosses “the Red Line” into a different Africa: “the improvised, slapped-together Africa of tumbled fences and cooking fires, of mud and thatch,” of heat and poverty, and of roadblocks, mobs, and anarchy. After 2,500 arduous miles, he comes to the end of his journey in more ways than one, a decision he chronicles with typically unsparing honesty in a chapter called “What Am I Doing Here?” Vivid, witty, and beautifully evocative, The Last Train to Zona Verde is a fitting final African adventure from the writer whose gimlet eye and effortless prose have brought the world to generations of readers.

Walking the Amazon: 860 Days. The Impossible Task. The Incredible Journey ISBN: 1905264569 | 2011 | EPUB | 320 pages | 2 MB
In April 2008, Ed Stafford began his attempt to become the first man ever to walk the entire length of the River Amazon. Nearly two and a half years later, he had crossed the whole of South America to reach the mouth of the colossal river. With danger a constant companion - outwitting alligators, jaguars, pit vipers and electric eels, not to mention overcoming the hurdles of injuries and relentless tropical storms - Ed's journey demanded extreme physical and mental strength. Often warned by natives that he would die, Ed even found himself pursued by machete-wielding tribesmen and detained for murder. However, Ed's journey was an adventure with a purpose: to help raise people's awareness of environmental issues. Ed had unprecedented access to indigenous communities and witnessed the devastating effects of the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest first-hand. His story of disappearing tribes and loss of habitats concerns us all. Ultimately though, Walking the Amazon is an account of a world-first expedition that takes readers on the most daring journey along the world's greatest river and through the most bio-diverse habitat on earth.

Educated Tastes: Food, Drink, and Connoisseur Culture
English | ISBN: 0803219350 | edition 2011 | PDF | 320 pages | 4.4 MB The old adage “you are what you eat” has never seemed more true than in this era, when ethics, politics, and the environment figure so prominently in what we ingest and in what we think about it. Then there are connoisseurs, whose approaches to food address “good taste” and frequently require a language that encompasses cultural and social dimensions as well. From the highs (and lows) of connoisseurship to the frustrations and rewards of a mother encouraging her child to eat, the essays in this volume explore the complex and infinitely varied ways in which food matters to all of us. Educated Tastes is a collection of new essays that examine how taste is learned, developed, and represented. It spans such diverse topics as teaching wine tasting, food in Don Quixote, Soviet cookbooks, cruel foods, and the lambic beers of the Belgian Payottenland. A set of key themes connect these topics: the relationships between taste and place; how our knowledge of food shapes taste experiences; how gustatory discrimination functions as a marker of social difference; and the place of ethical, environmental, and political concerns in debates around the importance and meaning of taste. With essays that address, variously, the connections between food, drink, and music; the place of food in the development of Italian nationhood; and the role of morality in aesthetic judgment, Educated Tastes offers a fresh look at food in history, society, and culture.
Blue Jacket: Warrior of the Shawnees 2001 | ISBN-10: 0803242883, 080329302X | 400 pages | PDF | 22 MB Blue Jacket (ca. 1743-ca. 1808), or Waweyapiersenwaw, was the most influential Native American leader of his time. He was the galvanising force behind an intertribal confederacy of unparalleled scope that fought a long and bloody war against white encroachments into their homeland in the Ohio River valley. Blue Jacket was an astute strategist and diplomat who, though courted by American and British leaders, remained a staunch defender of the Shawnees' independence and territory. He fielded large forces (his warriors inflicted greater losses upon the American army than those of Cochise, Geronimo, Red Cloud, Crazy Horse, and Sitting Bull combined), won unprecedented military and diplomatic victories, and during his later years inspired and mentored the legendary Tecumseh. In this arresting and controversial account, John Sugden, the acclaimed biographer of Tecumseh, restores Blue Jacket to his rightful place of prominence in American history. John Sugden is an independent scholar and a former associate editor of Oxford University Press's American National Biography project. His books include "Tecumseh: A Life", winner of the Society for Military History Distinguished Book Award.
The Last Thousand Days of the British Empire: The Demise of a Superpower, 1944-47 ISBN: 071399830X, 0141020059 | 2007 | EPUB | 608 pages | 3 MB Peter Clarke's book is the first to analyse in detail the losing hand that Britain was dealt in the last year of World War Two, and then to see how that hand was played over the next two years by Churchill's successors. It makes superb use of the copious letters and diaries now available of the major participants and many involved observers, to show how decisions were taken and received. Not least, it analyses dispassionately the role of the USA: how Roosevelt and his successors were determined that Britain must be sustained both during the war and after, but that the British Empire must not. The book thus also describes the short pivotal period when American influence finally took over from the British in world politics.
Raw Family: A True Story of Awakening ISBN: 0970481926 | 2000 | EPUB| 109 pages | 3 MB There is no knowledge more important than the knowledge of listening to our body for the sake of our own health. We have an illusion that someone from the outside can heal us. If anybody can heal us, it is only ourselves. It will take centuries for science to learn the hopelessness of the attempt to push the everchanging human body into frames of scientific theories. But it is possible to know what we need to do here and now for our health. It is possible to learn to listen to our body's voice.
19 With a Bullet: A South African Paratrooper in Angola ISBN: 1920143319 | 2009 | MOBI | 352 pages | 4 MB
Nineteen with a Bullet - A Paratrooper in Angola is a fast-moving, action-packed account of Granger Korff's two years' service during 1980-81 with the elite 1 Parachute Battalion at the height of the South African 'bush war' in South West Africa (Namibia) and Angola. Apart from the normal counter-insurgency activities of Fireforce operations, ambushing and patrols, to contact and destroy SWAPO guerrillas, he was involved in several massive South African Defence Force (SADF) conventional cross-border operations, such as Protea, Daisy and Carnation, into Angola to take on FAPLA (Angolan MPLA troops) and their Cuban and Soviet allies. Korff s military 'career' is marred with controversy. He is always in trouble - going AWOL on the eve of battle; into battle; facing a court martial for beating up, and reducing to tears, a sergeant-major in front of the troops; fist-fighting with Drug Squad agents; arrested at gunpoint after the grueling seven-week, 700km Recce selection endurance march - are but some of the colorful anecdotes that lace this account of service in the SADF. Korff's writing is 'frontline' - punchy, brutal, self-deprecating and at times humorous - but always honest, providing the reader with what it was like to be one of apartheid's 'grunt' soldiers.
Alcatraz: The Gangster Years English | ISBN: 0520256077 | 2009 | EPUB | 584 pages | 0,7 MB Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, Alvin Karpis, "Dock" Barker--these were just a few of the legendary "public enemies" for whom America's first supermax prison was created. In Alcatraz: The Gangster Years, David Ward brings their stories to life, along with vivid accounts of the lives of other infamous criminals who passed through the penitentiary from 1934 to 1948. Ward, who enjoyed unprecedented access to FBI, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and Federal Parole records, conducted interviews with one hundred former Alcatraz convicts, guards, and administrators to produce this definitive history of "The Rock." Alcatraz is the only book with authoritative answers to questions that have swirled about the prison: How did prisoners cope psychologically with the harsh regime? What provoked the protests and strikes? How did security flaws lead to the sensational escape attempts? And what happened when these "habitual, incorrigible" convicts were finally released? By shining a light on the most famous prison in the world, Ward also raises timely questions about today's supermax prisons.

The Landscape Photography Workshop Ammonite Press | 2013 | ISBN: N/A | English | 176 Pages | True PDF | 66MB We have been hosting landscape photography workshops in the south-west of England for several years. We thoroughly enjoy sharing our skills and experience as professional, award-winning landscape photographers, and we cram lots of practical help and information into our workshops. Participants often comment on how they wish they could remember everything they learned during the course – but the human brain being what it is, this just isn’t possible. That’s why we decided to create a workshop in book form – to provide a useful, practical resource, covering all the essentials photographers need to improve their landscape images. We also appreciate that not everyone can afford to attend a workshop, or justify the time away from work or domestic duties. Therefore, we hope this book will – to some extent, at least – provide a cost-effective alternative to attending a workshop in person.

Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think
ISBN: 0553804340 | 2006 | EPUB | 288 pages | 2 MB In this illuminating and groundbreaking new book, food psychologist Brian Wansink shows why you may not realize how much you’re eating, what you’re eating–or why you’re even eating at all. • Does food with a brand name really taste better? • Do you hate brussels sprouts because your mother did? • Does the size of your plate determine how hungry you feel? • How much would you eat if your soup bowl secretly refilled itself? • What does your favorite comfort food really say about you? • Why do you overeat so much at healthy restaurants? Brian Wansink is a Stanford Ph.D. and the director of the Cornell University Food and Brand Lab. He’s spent a lifetime studying what we don’t notice: the hidden cues that determine how much and why people eat. Using ingenious, fun, and sometimes downright fiendishly clever experiments like the “bottomless soup bowl,” Wansink takes us on a fascinating tour of the secret dynamics behind our dietary habits. How does packaging influence how much we eat? Which movies make us eat faster? How does music or the color of the room influence how much we eat? How can we recognize the “hidden persuaders” used by restaurants and supermarkets to get us to mindlessly eat? What are the real reasons most diets are doomed to fail? And how can we use the “mindless margin” to lose–instead of gain–ten to twenty pounds in the coming year? Mindless Eating will change the way you look at food, and it will give you the facts you need to easily make smarter, healthier, more mindful and enjoyable choices at the dinner table, in the supermarket, in restaurants, at the office– even at a vending machine–wherever you decide to satisfy your appetite.
The Norm Chronicles: Stories and Numbers About Danger
ISBN: 1846686202 | 2013 | MOBI | 288 pages | 4 MB Meet Norm. He's 31, 5'9", just over 13 stone, and works a 39 hour week. He likes a drink, doesn't do enough exercise and occasionally treats himself to a bar of chocolate (milk). He's a pretty average kind of guy. In fact, he is the average guy in this clever and unusual take on statistical risk, chance, and how these two factors affect our everyday choices. Watch as Norm (who, like all average specimens, feels himself to be uniquely special), and his friends careful Prudence and reckless Kelvin, turns to statistics to help him in life's endless series of choices - should I fly or take the train? Have a baby? Another drink? Or another sausage? Do a charity skydive or get a lift on a motorbike?Because chance and risk aren't just about numbers - it's about what we believe, who we trust and how we feel about the world around us. What we do, or don't do, has as much do with gut instinct as hard facts, with enjoyment as understanding. If you've ever wondered what the statistics in tabloid scare stories really mean, how dangerous horse-riding is compared to class-A drugs, or what governs coincidence, you will find it all here. From a world expert in risk and the bestselling author of The Tiger That Isn't (and creator of BBC Radio 4's More or Less), this is a commonsense (and wildly entertaining) guide to personal risk and decoding the statistics that represent it.
