His for the Taking (Harlequin Desire) Years ago, when Maddie Gray ran away from Yella, Texas, pregnant and alone, she left behind an undeserved reputation—and her young lover, rancher and oil heir John Coleman. Now she's on the edges of his sophisticated world once again, determined to keep all her secrets.

Headed for Trouble No, its not a new Troubleshooters novel (although Brockmann does tease readers with an excerpt of a new Troubleshooters- related novel for 2014), but "Headed For Trouble" does exactly what an anthology should: give you all the past short stories in the Troubleshooters world in one place, give readers a new story to enjoy in the present, & get readers excited for a new novel in the future. Oh, & remind everyone that no readers of the Troubleshooters series will rest until Jay Lopez's story is told

Half Moon Hill: A Destiny Novel Overall, this book was an enjoyable read, though I thought at times it seemed easy to put down. Since I had read the previous books, I enjoyed catching up with the other characters in the town. Steaminess-wise, this book seems "hotter" than some of the other books in the series.

Halfway There (Fool's Gold)

I loved it. The only dislike it wasn't long enough. I am ready for the next one. I love how you put all the other characters from the other books in the series.

Lord of Wicked Intentions Excellent wrap up of the Lost Lords of Pembrook trilogy. Lorraine Heath will always be a preorder for me. Still infatuated with Ainsley from the last series :) If you are looking for wonderful flawed characters and strong female leads, along with a beautifully woven story, you will love this series. If you haven't read a historical romance in awhile, or thought they were getting too predictable, this series will delight you. Do start from the first book to savor the magic of the story as it unravels.

Grounded: Book One in 'The Windy City Neighbors Series' I enjoyed this warmhearted story of discernment, forgiveness not only of others, but forgiveness of self, and learning to accept the gift of grace that is offered freely when our hearts are open to receiving it. In our fast-paced lives we tend to spend less time increasing growth in our faith lives, and the authors of Grounded have presented positive examples of renewing our spiritual lives through time spent in the Word, in prayer and through grace.

Gracie All that is missing is a family of her own, Gracie desperately wants a baby so when boyfriend Sean proposes she accepts without hesitation. But a chance meeting before the wedding gives her doubts and when old secrets come back to haunt her, it seems that Sean is not the rock of strength she expected him to be.

Forecast Jane Tara's book "Forecast" should be forecasted as a best seller. What a fun read and the characters were so well written that I identified with more than one and couldn't put the book down. Lots of love, lust, learning and metaphysics presented through the eyes of both believer and doubter... I'll let you read it to see which side wins out.

Dylan's Witch: 10 (Supernatural Bonds) I have been waiting for this story since these characters were introduced in the first story in the series..i was not disappointed very hot sex and also mentioned characters from the other books in the series..i hope she does a story on Seraphine's sister Electra next.

Dying Echo: A Grim Reaper Mystery Overall this was a good mystery story. The author did a good job in making the characters have so much depth and be more than just one dimensional characters. She gave them lots of back story and made you really want to know more about them. I laughed so hard at a few of the things Death said and the author did a great job of making him more relate able. I think the author had a well developed plot and I now need to go back and start at the beginning of this series to learn more about Casey because I am in love with her character. I also loved that the author created such a great story that read like a standalone book. I highly recommend this to my mystery lovers out there.

Diva (The Flappers) I've enjoyed the entire Flapper trilogy - great insight to a time I knew little about and the characters are fascinating!

Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets Evan Roskos's debut novel comes across as quite literary in style. If you are a fan of Where Things Come Back chances are you will enjoy Dr. Bird's Advice For Sad Poets. The writing is sophisticated, but accessible. What I mean by this is that Roskos has effortlessly placed Song Of Myself within a teenage context and it does not feel awkward. I'd recommend this book to anyone with a penchant for poetry, angst, and quirky but earnest characters.

Deep Space: Star Carrier: Book Four The only real down-sides to Douglas' novel, and I apologize a bit since I feel a perpetual compunction to be at least somewhat constructive in all reviews, is that the naming of some of his technology can at times be distracting and unrefined. In a similar vein, if I had a nickel for every time the two syllables 'nano' appear together in this novel then I would be an abundantly wealthy man.

Daughter of Empire: My Life as a Mountbatten Lady Pamela Hicks is the daughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten and his wife, Edwina. She is cousin to both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. She is the widow of famed designer David Hicks and the mother of three. As the result of

her birth and marriage, she has witnessed first hand some of the most important events in mid-20th century English history. Her new book, "Daughter of Empire", is a chronicle of the first 30 or so years of her life.

Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild) Apparently, there are several novels of Douglas' that precede this book that fully explain the history of the Chanku people and the back story of a majority of the characters in Dark Wolf. However, I have not read any of them and I was able to jump right into this world with no problem. So, if you're like me and haven't read any of them, DON'T let that stop you from reading this book. Of course, I loved the Chanku people and this story so much that I am going to go back and read all of her other books.

Dancing for the Lord: The Academy (Volume 1) Dancing for the Lord is an absolutely amazing book, and I recommend it for pre-teens through adults! The author does an amazing job showing the struggles of characters but also shows how the characters turn their problems to God. I love how Danni authentically loves God and uses her dancing to glorify Him!

Cannot Unite (Vampire Assassin League) This is the 12th book in the series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but much more enjoyable if you have read earlier books. This is a short story, but the author manages to pack a lot into it. It has humor, romance, physic abilities, vampires, action and an enemy to battle. The hero is hot, strong, and totally out of his element at times.

Bronze Gods (An Apparatus Infernum Novel) It speeds along with plenty of action, tension, surprises, heart-stopping moments, additional delightful supporting cast, and fantastic attention to detail. I loved the manner in which details unfolded. Bronze Gods is the first in a new series, and it ended in my favorite manner for series books: by bringing the current plot to a satisfactory conclusion, but leaving plenty of unanswered questions to lead into the next novel.

Broken Wings (An Angel Eyes Novel) Overall, this is a beautiful addition to this series. Although there is more religion than in the first book, so if that kind of thing bothers you, you may want to try something else. But if you enjoy christian themes and overtones in books, you need to read this series because I think it is wonderfully done!

Black Helicopters Blythe Woolston's YA masterpiece, Black Helicopters, starts strong and gains momentum with every page. The narrator's voice is both real and engaging, and the book's message, while never given priority over the brilliant storytelling, is frighteningly relevant. Hurry up and treat yourself to this fast-paced, heart-wrenching, mind-twisting literary gem... and don't let anyone talk to you about the end until you've read it for yourself.

Bare It All The story itself was exciting, entertaining and fun. It kept me reading, and it also kept me guessing what was going to happen next. Just an FYI, I did figure it out a few times. But, really, even that couldn't dampen my enthusiasm of a new Lori Foster book.

Attica Join Jordy, Alex, and Chloe as they cross the portal from our world to a strange and wonderful other place, accessible for just a moment in time through the trapdoor of the attic in their family home. From hat-stand forests to towering hills of old musical instruments, deserts of old books, and a great water-tank lake, the vast continent they stumble upon is

one of limitless surprises and that's before they meet the inhabitants strange clans of small and lumpen people who live in homes constructed from all manner of found things and drive vehicles powered by old sewing-machine parts.

And the Sea Will Tell This is a nonfiction novel rather than one of Mr. Bugliosi's indignant harangues but as usual, I learned a lot about criminal process and jurisprudence. He also lets us in on small aspects of his personal life and I enjoyed this, too. And while I am convinced that "Jennifer Jenkins" is innocent of murder, I think she should win an Oscar for acting stupid in regards to that werewolf she was shacking up with.

Armored Hearts (Fantasy Steampunk) What a wonderful story. I Absolutely loved it. Streampunk, mystery, faries and romance what else could you ask for. Jessamine is so strong and independent yet so very caring and patient with Gareth. Gareth being so hard on himself not only about his disability, but his ability to truly find someone to understand him. All I have left to say is hurry up with the next book. Can't wait for it!!!

Appalachian Overthrow: A Novel of the Vampire Earth Captured and sold to the Kurian–allied Maynes Conglomerate, to work as a slave in the coal mines of Appalachia, Ahn-Kha is angered and appalled by the dangerous working conditions, and the brutal treatment inflicted upon his fellow miners. When a protest against shortages is deliberately and bloodily suppressed, Ahn-Kha sets himself against the ruling Maynes family and sets out on a trail of vengeance through the Coal Country.

Ancient Echoes Over two hundred years ago, a covert expedition shadowing Lewis and Clark disappeared into the wilderness of Central Idaho. Now, seven anthropology students and their professor vanish in the same area. The key to finding them lies in an ancient secret, one involving alchemy, gold, and immortality...a secret that men throughout history have sought to unveil.

Alex Van Helsing: Voice of the Undead Now that Alex is in the know about the deadly vampires that live and hunt clustered around his boarding school, everything is different. Putting his talents to use, Alex is training with the Polidorium to become a vampire hunter, just like his Van Helsing ancestors. Sure, he's only fourteen, but c'mon, this runs in his blood.Meanwhile, Alex's arch-

nemesis Elle, a vampire whose youthful appearance and blond hair disguise a vengeful rage, is out to get him before a powerful leader called "Ultravox" arrives on the scene. Ultravox specializes in assassinations, but who is he targeting?

Alex Van Helsing: The Triumph of Death This is the 3rd in a series that has kept my attention. I love the instant draw into the action!! Keep up the good work!! I'm waiting impatiently for the next addition!!

Against the Edge (The Raines of Wind Canyon) Kat Martin writes amazing characters that have the grit it takes to do the hard work and still have romance to get through the night.

Affairs of State (Harlequin Desire) First she discovers she's the secret daughter of the American president, then she falls for a British prince. Ariella Winthrop's life can't get much more complicated. Or can it? Having fun with Simon Worth passionate meetings, hiding their attraction from the public—is one thing. But getting serious? The British monarchy certainly doesn't want their beloved prince dating an American, much less one with her fair share of scandals. But when Ariella discovers she's pregnant with a royal baby, all bets are off. This woman is fighting for what is hers.

A Masquerade in the Moonlight This novel keeps you turning the pages with a smile on your face. The hero and heroine are both strong, intelligent characters with a flaming passion for each other. Good secondary characters also. Great read.

A Dog's Journey

Well, that's all I'm going to say about this very, very memorable book, which hopefully will be enough to motivate you to read it. I know you'll feel totally enriched with the emotional journey it will take you on. Be forewarned, however, that you'll need to have a box of tissues close by as you read it!

Life After Theft Who Should Read It? The book leans a lot more towards contemporary rather than paranormal, so I would recommend it to those contemporary fans that are looking to dip their figurative toes into the pool of paranormal. It's a good "let's-ease-into-this" kind of novel. Oh and I would recommend it to the other contemporary fans that are just fine staying in contemporary.

King of Ithaca (Adventures of Odysseus) This book grabs you from the first chapter and doesn't let go. Very engaging and entertaining. Moving on to the sequel.

Letting Go (Triple Eight Ranch) Excellent well written story of forgiveness and faith. Characters are well developed and reflect their faith. A bit of suspense, surprise, romance, and lots of forgivenss all wrapped up in one great book. I would encourage others to read this, but know that you will need a box of tissues to get through it. Great author.

Honey Pie (Cupcake Club) The Cupcake Club continues go make me happy. I look forward to many more!! Donna Kauffman continues to make me love each and everyone of her characters!!

High Anxiety This is an exciting fast-paced madcap thriller that balances humor with the seriousness of a deranged stalker. The story line is fast-paced whenever the plot focuses on Abigail who clearly needs help. When the subplot involves other clients, neighbors or mom it is over the top with fun eccentricity. Readers will enjoy Kate's third case mostly because of Abigail, whose needs turn potentially dangerous.

Here Where the Sunbeams are Green One of the greatest pleasures for a child is to read a book written for them by an adult who understands imagination and creativity. Helen Phillips is such an author. Her world, as depicted in Here Where the Sunbeams are Green, is peopled by clever, funny children, parents who are a little wacky and strange, and takes place in a spectacular and peculiar setting. She has a great grasp on the way children think, and a good idea of how to present her characters so as to draw children 10 and up into her tale.

Extreme Love The conflicts in this book center around the world of MMA and its effect on Caitlyn Caitlyn's effect on Dante and how it affects his current fight for the title, as well as the slime ball Sentori. Pure slime. It's a sweet story with some real life issues and the ending is truly a HEA with a healthy does of "AWWWWWW" thrown in.

Conservation of Shadows

There is no such thing as conservation of shadows. When light destroys shadows, darkness does not gain in density elsewhere. When shadows steal over earth and across the sky, darkness is not diluted. Featuring an Introduction by Aliette De Bodard, Conservation of Shadows features a selection of short stories from Yoon Ha Lee.

Bitter Blood: The Morganville Vampires As usual I loved Claire, Shane, Michael & Eve, and lets not forget Myrnin. Each of them went through their own personal demons, and betrayals. It was tense, upsetting, frustrating. I went through so many emotions, it was crazy. This book made it more real. Claire and the gang has gone through so much that even their strong bond is going to be tested and crack. Trust and love will also be tested. Rachel Caine really does an excellent job of showing the ups and downs of even the close relationships of Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve. We also get a little more knowledge and personality of Myrnin and Oliver.

Avalanche: A Sheriff Bo Tully Mystery The Bo Tully Mysteries are good relaxation reading. They can help you unwind after a hard day. (If you are a fan of McManus that is.) These are different from his previous works. They have subtle undertones that are noticed more after the book is read a few times. This is not quite the McManus I grew up reading, but I can hardly wait for the next book to see where the story goes.

Accidentally...Evil? This tease to what is coming is amazing. I love all the characters. (Other books in the series as well) Cant wait to read more. Hurry up and write more already! (Just kidding, But not really please hurry)

Moon (New Species) It's no secret I am a huge Species fan. Just like any other series, I have my favorites. Justice (Book 4) has always had my heart. Moon may have pushed him out of the saddle for that position...or come frighteningly close. If you read Shadow (Book 9) You are aware Moon was shot with an unknown drug that has everyone scrambling around trying to find an antidote. He is feral and unable to recognize anyone or comprehend what is taking place.

Nameless This was one of the funniest, most intelligently written adult contemporary romances I've ever read. I so enjoyed Escorted and breathlessly stalked Ms. Kent's web site for the release of Nameless. Seth and Erin are great together and will remain one of my favorite book couples. This author, who also writes as Noelle Adams, is an auto buy for me.

No Strings Attached (Barefoot William Beach 2) This book follows a previous one but things are explained enough that it can be read at any time. The feud continues or has it ended with the marriage: Cates and Saunders.

Nutcase The focus of the plot is on an arsonist who is targetting firefighters. This is a big deal to Kate as she lost her father (a firefighter) to a burning building, and she isnt exactly thrilled that her ex, who, she is still attached to, now is risking his life with these arsons. While the plot serves to make this a mystery, its strong suit is the incredibly good dialogue, and Ms. Hughes' trademark wit and humor.

Oath Bound Various story arc's span the trilogy so I would recommend starting at the beginning if you are interested. I have really enjoyed the Undone series and while Oath Bound provides closure, I'm sorry the author chose to end it. Still, Rachel assured me when I had the opportunity to ask, that a new adult audience series would be launched later this year and I am looking forward to it.

One Rough Man: A Pike Logan Thriller Anyone who reads my reviews knows I don't give 5 stars willingly. In fact, I've been criticized for being too critical. So....you know when I do give 5 stars, I'm not fooling. There are way too many "me too" 5 star reviews, just a bunch of follower-types going along with the crowd.

Quiet Walks the Tiger At twenty-nine, the widowed Sloan Tallett thought her best chance at love was gone. It takes every ounce of her strength and concentration to balance her work as a dance teacher at the local college with her responsibilities as a single parent to her three young children. If she was lucky, Friday nights would be free for the occasional date. The dates never added up to much, but her bills did. When Wesley Adams, a handsome, retired all-American quarterback

comes to town on business, Sloan is slow to acknowledge his obvious attention to her. When she realizes that this wealthy catch is attracted to her, though, Sloan glimpses what could be a very comfortable life.

Roses in Moonlight Her immense talent as an author is a gift to her readers that is delivered with each page and with each and every book! I give my praise out sparingly, but I truly cannot think of another author (and I've read countless authors), who deserves my absolute gratitude for sharing her creativity and talent with me, and for bringing a little extra enjoyment to my life as I read each new book. I truly love journeying along with each of her stories and hope that she will continue to write her romance stories as well as her Nine Kingdoms series. Thank you, Lynn Kurland!

Say When An impulsive decision to become a department store Santa has a profound effect on Griffin, as he forges new friendships, attempts to jump back into the dating pool, and strives to understand what led Ellen astray and figure out if perhaps his lack of spontaneity drove her away. Eventually, the stress of remaining together as roommates (and Griffin waiting up for her after her dates with "Opie") takes its toll, and Ellen branches out for a little independence by getting an apartment. The setting might have changed, but the same problems are still there. As a reader, we are kept guessing until the very end how the relationship will unfold and the effect it will have on Zoe.

Say Goodbye Although her writing is not particularly elegant, Gardner ratchets up the suspense nicely. She keeps the plot moving at a fast pace and provides engrossing and carefully researched details about the functioning of Georgia's various law enforcement agencies. Except for the requisite twists and turns, however, the plot offers few surprises. The dialogue is stilted, the characters are generally one-dimensional, and the plot adheres closely to the standard serial killer formula. Be warned that there are quite a few disturbing scenes of graphic violence and brutality. This nightmarish novel is by no means a light beach read.

Scandal of the Year I really felt that this story was interesting. There were definitely twists that I hadn't expected. And I liked seeing the two characters change over time. All Blythe wanted was to marry well but that changed after she got to know James. And all James wanted was to expose the impostors and claim what was rightfully his. However, his hardened resolve dissolved over time once he began to care more about Blythe. The only thing that I wanted more of was a longer ending. I thought everything moved a little too fast at the end. One thing led to another. And it felt too rushed for me. I would have liked to see James and Blythe together longer before the story ended. Other than that, I enjoyed reading Scandal of the Year.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light read. It was interesting and fast pace.

Seven Years This novel, in an excellent low-key translation by Michael Hoffmann, is nicely bound with a pale grey cover. In many ways, it is a pastel book, a domestic story where nothing earth-shaking happens. The few surprises along the way are gear-shifts rather than changes of direction. For a long time, I was chugging along in solid four-star territory. But I was getting attached to the characters, especially to Alexander despite his stupidities. And certainly drawn into their world. Then at the very end, the author does something surprising. No, not a coup-de-theatre, a quiet sigh rather than a loud Wow. But something so true that it authenticates everything that had gone before. I realized that, despite the lack of drama, I had been reading a portrait of a marriage so real that it brought tears to my eyes. So five stars at the end, absolutely. Read this, but give it time.

Scar Night (Deepgate Codex, Book 1) Campbell seems to take a somewhat dim view of organized religion and his gods are much more like those from Greece, Rome, and Scandanavia then any now worshipped. Angels are not necessarily immortal, and apparently, from the hints, they follow Lucifer more in disposition than Michael being very egotistical and seemingly to reproduce they must impregnant human women which results in the death of the mother at birth (not a completely fleshed out back story, perhaps in the sequel we'll learn more). There's a lot of promise here for more fast paced and involved sequels. The plot twist is not forseeable and the conclusion is anything but foregone making it a good read in my book. I don't recommend it for someone who wants a happy ending and you need to like fantasy to wade through the jargon, but I highly recommend if for any fantasy fan looking for something NEW.

Shadow in Serenity This is a novel of love, sacrifice and hardship and one that will draw the reader from the beginning guaranteeing hours of reading enjoyment. With excellent character development this novel will capture your heart and will keep you guessing until the end. Highly recommend, excellent in every way!

Shades of Grey The end of the book is classic Fforde, however. I don't want to elaborate on that. What I was not prepared for was the note that this was the first in a planned trilogy. I don't mind book series, but I do find it annoying when an author does not tie up important plot elements by the final pages, which is what happens here. I very much want to read the next installments in the series, and hope it will not be another two years before I get to do so. If you enjoyed any of Fforde's other books, you'll get a kick out of this one. If you haven't met Fforde before, by all means start here, but don't miss his Thursday Next series.

Shadow Magic The world-building is good enough to keep things interesting, even though the alternate universe Russian and Japanese cultures are somewhat familiar. Magic plays a very small part, despite the title, but the four main characters and their growth in having to deal with each other and their situations are well depicted and fascinating and easily able to carry our interest. It is the characters that really stand out, particularly the quirky, fey Caius and the sweet, earnest Mamoru, balanced by the no-nonsense General and resolute servant. They make this an exciting and memorable read.

Shadow of Death: A Brady Coyne Novel Tapply's folksy narrative style, the honest simplicity of his descriptions, and the incorporation of local color from Boston and the woodlands of southern New Hampshire, give the novel a breadth and "charm" missing from more action-oriented series. Relatively simple in its presentation and style, the mystery is also simple, and while the reader will probably be surprised by one plot twist at the end, the chances are that s/he will not be very surprised by the ultimate solution to the mystery.

Shadow Season This is an exciting action-packed thriller that hooks the audience from the moment Finn begins his musing and never slows down as the readers wonders why someone is mass murdering those trapped at the school. The story line is fast-paced once the characters are set and never slows down until the anticipated final confrontation with the ill wind and the academy's champion, a sort of good vs. evil battle on a small scale. SHADOW SEASON is an engaging tense tale as Tom Piccirilli provides a superb suspenseful story.

Shadow Raiders (The Dragon Brigade, Book 1) As a long time fan and avid reader of all things Weis & Hickman, I was shocked to find that this novel has now replaced my beloved Dragonlance and Deathgate Cycle series as my favorite writing by Weis. This book has everything from excellent characters, excellent history, excellent writing, excellent story, and excellent emotional attachments the reader is forced to make with each character. I laughed, cried, and found myself truly sucked in to this new world.

Shadow Walker

This is a great Stormwalker romantic urban fantasy though the emphasis is dramatically on the life and death struggles. Fast-paced yet very twisty, the story line bewitches the audience even more than the Shadow Walker does Mick. Set aside time as Allyson James provides sub-genre fans with one of the best entries of the year.

Shadowcry (The Secrets of Wintercraft) Impossible to categorize, which explains its brilliance. Somehow dystopian, Steampunk, Victorian, and scarily contemporary. The beginning sets up so much, and yet it keeps topping itself at every twist and turn. What I loved best is that I couldn't predict anything that would come next.

Shadowflame (A Novel of the Shadow World) The remaining three stars are given because I thought the killer was a well thought out plot. I never would've guessed to the events that had transpired in catching the bad guy (so to speak). I thought the happenings with Cora and Kat were amazing. As I said before other than the two reasons why I took the stars away this could've been a five star book. Oh well there's always next time.

Shadows of Death Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was one of the kings of the horror genre, and had he lived longer, one can only imagine what masterpieces he might have created. But, what we do have are book such as this one. This book is a collection of some twenty of his short stories, covering his entire writing career. Overall, I found this to be a wonderful book, and I really enjoyed the stories...my favorite being Shadow Out Of Time.

Shanghai Girls "Shanghai Girls" is a well-woven narrative that flows well and Lisa See credibly evokes the bond between two sisters, whose love for one another is strong, yet also fraught by rivalries. This is not just a story about siblings for it is also about the clash between East and West as the sisters struggle to find their footing in a new world, even as the bonds of their old world remain strong. Lisa See is truly a gifted author for being able to portray both the old world of 17th and 19th century China [as seen in Peony and Snow Flower] and the new as seen in "Shanghai Girls". Final verdict: a compelling read.

Shallow Grave

I inhaled all three books in as many days, and added Armstrong to my list of "auto buy authors." The books reminded me slightly of the Stephanie Plum books and of the Eve Dallas "Death" series. Both of those excellent series also have endearing ensemble casts, and in Eve's case, a larger psychological issue. Armstrong has taken her heroine's vulnerabilities to new depths in this third book. Not only is PI Julie still struggling to solve the "big mystery," but she continually learns more about herself as she pieces together the smaller puzzles emerging in this exciting plot. The romantic elements (and a romantic triangle) add to the page-turning quality of the story. So, what do you get when you combine a politically incorrect, wild-and-crazy private investigator, Harley-riding badboys, the alternative reality of the Native American experience in South Dakota and a dysfunctional childhood? An incredibly good book.

Shatter "Shatter" has some powerful and wrenching moments, but it is not an unqualified success. Many readers will be skeptical that law enforcement officials would allow a civilian psychologist and a retired detective to attend briefings, read case notes, interview witnesses, and speak to the media. In addition, the identity of the perpetrator, "a bully, a sadist, and [a] control freak," is given away too early. He is a one-dimensional monster, straight out of central casting. Another plot point that might raise a few eyebrows is whether this individual's methods of mind control would work on otherwise confident, poised, and worldly women. Although the conclusion has its share of excitement, it is too predictable to be truly harrowing.

Shoot the Moon I could not put this book down. Every opportunity I got to pick it up I did. The story is about a man, Dr. Mark Albright, veterinarian to the stars, who travels to DeClare, OK to find out about his birth mother. Mark's father has recently passed away, and while going through his things, he discovers he was adopted, and was originally from OK. Well, back in 1972 in Declare, a young woman (Gaylene Harjo) was stabbed to death, and her 10 month old baby, Nicky Jack went missing. After years searching, the town feared him dead, and no definitive answers were giving as to who killed Gaylene. Well, Mark discovers he's Nicky Jack. The towns divided as to wether they think he's the real deal, or a con artist. But Mark is taken in by Teeve, his aunt, and Ivy his cousin. With their help, and the help of a bunch of other very colorful townsfolk, they are searching for answers as to why and who killed his mother, how did Mark/Nicky Jack end up in California with his adoptive family, and who's been trying for 27 years to cover up the facts. There were twists and turns all over this book, and you'll NEVER guess who was responsible for the killing/kidnaping. I highly recommend this read. This was my second book by Ms. Letts, and I loved it, just as I did The Honk and Holler. Can't wait to read more from her, she's quickly turning into one of my favorite authors!

State of Emergency At times it was difficult to keep up with the names of the characters since I do not speak Russian or other languages in this book.

Someday, Someday, Maybe The novel moves quickly and the character of Franny is written very well. I felt as if Franny was a good friend by the end of the novel and I wanted her to get success, fall in love with someone who deserved her, and not stress about money so much. Ms. Graham did a wonderful job writing Franny. I am sure that the character came easy to her since at least superficially the two resemble each other, and I would assume that Ms. Graham used her own personal stories of auditions and failures in this novel.

The Devil's Heart: The Chattan Curse THE DEVIL'S HEART is a delightful conclusion to the Chattan Curse trilogy, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, it's much better to read the trilogy in whole as there are recurring characters. I rarely read historical romance with fantasy elements, but the Chattan curse is rather interesting, and the characters are more than they seem.

The Mostly True Story of Jack The characters I had a hard time with at first. Jack, who has spent most of his life being semi-invisible, has little interest in this new place or the people who live there, at least not at first. I found this hard to relate to, probably because I find the world a fascinating place. But slowly as I read, I realized that Jack was doing what many of us do when faced with changes that shake the very foundations of everything we though we knew. He was trying to ignore it. Of course, he eventually realizes the futility of this.

The Prince's Bride After the previous 2 books I expected something more. Something that would make my mind explode. In the end the only thing that happened and usually is not made my stomach turn. It's a good book more like the ones you will find in Historical romance rather than anything close to the level of the other two books of the trilogy. Things went too smoothly for them. And the abduction isn't a good one. The year the events in this book happen in 1815 which I found stupid because Rose at that time didn't have her HEA.

The Program There are some loose ends which speak of a sequel. But I thought this book could have been and should have been a standalone. It packs a punch the way it is. This novel is not for everyone not if you're looking for a cute, fun read.

The Ruins of Arlandia (Volume 1) This is a well written book. It has been edited and reviewed well. I normally read books that have some teaching or training to them and rarely have the time to read for pleasure, but I am glad that I made the decision to get this book.

The Tudor Plot: A Cotton Malone Novella In this original eBook novella by the New York Times bestselling author of The King’s Deception, globetrotting intelligence agent Cotton Malone is lured into dangerous intrigue surrounding the world’s most famous royals—and uncovers a murderous conspiracy of terrorists and traitors, all born from an ancient tale of Saxon history.

The Right Bride While I wanted to smack Cameron from time to time as well as wanting to strangle Shelly and shake Marti... this story really outdid itself in the series. Each book in the series is a stand alone book, but intertwines very nicely with the previous books. If I could give my rating more than 5 stars.... I would, but alas... I only happen to be allowed to give it a solid 5. I highly recommend you get yourself a copy and forget doing anything else. That is what I did!

This Girl I've said it before but it's the truth Colleen Hoover is a genius!! Her writing never disappoints and This Girl was no different. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to reach into my kindle and smack some sense into people. And let me just say, when you find out the reason behind the title...you'll want to stick Will Cooper in your pocket (or maybe somewhere else lol) and keep him forever. I was ready to lose it before I even started the dang book only because I know what to expect from a Colleen Hoover novel. Especially in this series. She's gonna rip your heart out one second and then hand it back to you wrapped in a sparkly bow the next. Like I said...genius.

Undeclared (The Woodlands) This was an excellent read that was filled with true romance, sweet and fun moments and interesting characters that kept me reading straight through. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series and I'm keeping a look out for future works by this author.

Through the Door (The Thin Veil) I was pulled into the story immediately and I couldn't put it down. It didn't take me long to finish this book and I will be anxiously waiting for the next book in the trilogy to come out. I am a sucker for any kind of story with Celtic lore in it. I always have been drawn to it ever since I started reading Nora Roberts Celtic Trilogies over 10 years ago. The world

that Jodi has started to build in the series is a fresh new take, at least for me. She does such a wonderful job with her descriptions that you are pulled right into the story along with Cedar.

What Looks Like Crazy This book had me laughing the whole way through. It's a simple read and obvious that Hughes is best buds with Janet Evanovich and yet it's a style all it's own. I recommend this to any who wants a fun book with love, mystery, and TONS of laughter!

The Pacific ISBN: 184767822X, 045123023X | 2010 | EPUB | 512 pages | 1 MB Penguin delivers you to the front lines of The Pacific Theater with the real-life stories behind the HBO miniseries. Between America's retreat from China in late November 1941 and the moment General MacArthur's airplane touched down on the Japanese mainland in August of 1945, five men connected by happenstance fought the key battles of the war against Japan. From the debacle in Bataan, to the miracle at Midway and the relentless vortex of Guadalcanal, their solemn oaths to their country later led one to the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot and the others to the coral strongholds of Peleliu, the black terraces of Iwo Jima and the killing fields of Okinawa, until at last the survivors enjoyed a triumphant, yet uneasy, return home. In The Pacific, Hugh Ambrose focuses on the real-life stories of the five men who put their lives on the line for our country. To deepen the story revealed in the miniseries and go beyond it, the book dares to chart a great ocean of enmity known as The Pacific and the brave men who fought. Some considered war a profession, others enlisted as citizen soldiers. Each man served in a different part of the war, but their respective duties required every ounce of their courage and their strength to defeat an enemy who preferred suicide to surrender. The medals for valor which were pinned on three of them came at a shocking price-a price paid in full by all.

Folklore: An Encyclopedia of Beliefs, Customs, Tales, Music, and Art (3 Volume Set) Publisher: ABC-CLIO; 2nd editio | ISBN: 1598842412 | 2010 | PDF | 1312 pages | 16 MB Did you know that the tale of Cinderella is over 1,000 years old, and similar versions of this singular story exist in hundreds of cultures around the globe? Have you heard of "deathlore," a subgenre of folklore involving tombstones, coffins, cemeteries, and roadside memorial shrines? Did you realize that UFO sightings and cyber cultures constitute modern folklore? The broad field of folklore studies, developed over the past two centuries, provides significant insights into many aspects of human culture. While the term "folklore" conjures images of ancient practices and beliefs or folk heroes and traditional stories, it also applies to today's ever-changing cultural landscape. Even certain aspects of modern Internetbased popular culture and contemporary rites of passage represent folklore. This encyclopedia covers all the major genres of both ancient and contemporary folklore. This second edition adds more than 100 entries that examine the folklore practices of major ethnic groups, folk heroes, creatures of myth and legend, and emerging areas of interest in folklore studies.

The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking

2013 | ISBN: 0865479410, 192192148X | EPUB, MOBI | 256 pages | 3 MB The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative “negative path” to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid. It is a subversive, galvanizing message, which turns out to have a long and distinguished philosophical lineage ranging from ancient Roman Stoic philosophers to Buddhists. Oliver Burkeman talks to life coaches paid to make their clients’ lives a living hell, and to maverick security experts such as Bruce Schneier, who contends that the changes we’ve made to airport and aircraft security since the 9/11 attacks have actually made us less safe. And then there are the “backwards” business gurus, who suggest not having any goals at all and not planning for a company’s future. Burkeman’s new book is a witty, fascinating, and counterintuitive read that turns decades of self-help advice on its head and forces us to rethink completely our attitudes toward failure, uncertainty, and death.

Users will never have a need for guessing, assuming or surmising. Then her step-by-step instructions are so easy to follow that anyone who can read will be able to prepare the most lip smacking foods with little to no effort. Lastly, Ms. Getty has included full color pictures with every recipe in order to show all of us who are visually inclined how each specific dish will look like once it is finished and ready to serve. This one, Hanna’s Quick & Easy Vegan Cookbook, is no different. So, when readers first open the book to its Table of Contents, this is what they will find: Chapter 1: Introducing Hanna’s Quick & Easy Vegan Cookbook Here Ms. Getty explains why and how she believes that all the recipes in this book are indeed quick and easy. Therefore, she encourages everyone to use their imagination and evoke the creativity that will help them mix and match as much as they please. Also in this first chapter of her Quick & Easy Vegan Cookbook, Ms. Getty addresses the issue of the natural, plantbased and organic ingredients in her foods as she explains their health benefits. Chapter 2: Quick & Easy Breakfast Recipes Breakfast is indisputably known to be the most important meal of the day and that is the reason Ms. Getty came up with the scrumptious recipes which she included in this chapter of her book.

Chapter 3: Quick & Easy Lunch Recipes Ms. Getty considers lunch to be the most fun of all the daily meals and the recipes she included here reflect that exuberance. Chapter 4: Quick & Easy Dinner Recipes Dinner is Ms. Getty’s favorite meal because she gets to share it with her loved ones. The recipes in this chapter exhibit Ms. Getty’s ever present enthusiasm for healthy snacking. Chapter 6: Quick & Easy Party Recipes Large or small, quiet or loud — everybody loves a party and every party needs some good stuff to chomp on. Understanding all that, Ms. Getty had filled this chapter of her book with delectable munchies that will add zesty flavors to any social gathering. So, there you have it — Ms. Getty’s most recent publication with a title that says it all: Hanna's Quick & Easy Vegan Cookbook: 50 Trouble-Free Recipes, Effortless Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Meals Uncomplicated Between Meal Snacks All Healthy & Delightfully Delicious.

The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend ISBN: 1608191052 | 2013 | MOBI | 416 pages | 4 MB In 1836 in East Texas, nine-year-old Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Comanches. She was raised by the tribe and eventually became the wife of a warrior. Twenty-four years after her capture, she was reclaimed by the U.S. cavalry and Texas Rangers and restored to her white family, to die in misery and obscurity. Cynthia Ann's story has been told and re-told over generations to become a foundational American tale. The myth gave rise to operas and one-act plays, and in the 1950s to a novel by Alan LeMay, which would be adapted into one of Hollywood's most legendary films, The Searchers, "The Biggest, Roughest, Toughest... and Most Beautiful Picture Ever Made!" directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne. Glenn Frankel, beginning in Hollywood and then returning to the origins of the story, creates a rich and nuanced anatomy of a timeless film and a quintessentially American myth. The dominant story that has emerged departs dramatically from documented history: it is of the inevitable triumph of white civilization, underpinned by anxiety about the sullying of white women by "savages." What makes John Ford's film so powerful, and so important, Frankel argues, is that it both upholds that myth and undermines it, baring the ambiguities surrounding race, sexuality, and violence in the settling of the West and the making of America.

Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man English | 432 pages | ISBN-10: 019920778X | PDF | 15.77 Mb Martin Kemp, one of the world's leading authorities on Leonardo, takes us on a mesmerizing journey through the whole span of the great man's life, painting a fully integrated picture of his artistic, scientific, and technological achievements. Kemp shows how Leonardo's early training in Florence provided a crucial foundation in the "science of art," particularly perspective and anatomy, while his period in the service of the Sforzas of Milan enlarged his outlook to embrace a wide range of natural sciences and mathematics, as he searched for scientific rules governing both man and the universe. It was these rules, Kemp argues, which provided the basis for his imaginative reconstruction of nature in masterworks such as the Last Supper, The Mona Lisa, and St. John, which reveal his increasingly complex vision of man in the context of nature. And towards the end of his life, Leonardo became fascinated with the mathematics underlying the "design of nature," behind which lay the ultimate force of the "prime mover," as manifested with supreme power in his Deluge drawings. Covering every aspect of Leonardo's achievement, generously illustrated, and now including a new introductory chapter setting Leonardo's work in its historical context, this fully updated edition provides unparalleled insight into the mind of this central figure in western art.

Hitlers Hangman - The Life of Heydrich English | 416 pages | ISBN-10: 0300187726 | PDF | 3.13 Mb

Chief of the Nazi Criminal Police, the SS Security Service, and the Gestapo, ruthless overlord of Nazi-occupied Bohemia and Moravia, and leading planner of the 'Final Solution', Heydrich played a central role in Hitler's Germany. He shouldered a major share of responsibility for some of the worst Nazi atrocities, and up to his assassination in Prague in 1942, he was widely seen as one of the most dangerous men in Nazi Germany. Yet Heydrich has received remarkably modest attention in the extensive literature of the Third Reich. Robert Gerwarth weaves together littleknown stories of Heydrich's private life with his deeds as head of the Nazi Reich Security Main Office. Fully exploring Heydrich's progression from a privileged middle-class youth to a rapacious mass murderer, Gerwarth sheds new light on the complexity of Heydrich's adult character, his motivations, the incremental steps that led to unimaginable atrocities, and the consequences of his murderous efforts toward recreating the entire ethnic makeup of Europe.

The Gender Trap: Parents and the Pitfalls of Raising Boys and Girls English | ISBN: 0814737838, 0814748821 | 2012 | PDF | 297 pages | 2 MB From the selection of toys, clothes, and activities to styles of play and emotional expression, the family is ground zero for where children learn about gender. Despite recent awareness that girls are not too fragile to play sports and that boys can benefit from learning to cook, we still find ourselves surrounded by limited gender expectations and persistent gender inequalities. Through the lively and engaging stories of parents from a wide range of backgrounds, The Gender Trap provides a detailed account of how today’s parents understand, enforce, and resist the gendering of their children. Emily Kane shows how most parents make efforts to loosen gendered constraints for their children, while also engaging in a variety of behaviors that reproduce traditionally gendered childhoods, ultimately arguing that conventional gender expectations are deeply entrenched and that there is great tension in attempting to undo them while letting 'boys be boys' and 'girls be girls.'

The Great Theft: Wrestling Islam from the Extremists

English | ISBN-10: 0060563397 | October 4, 2005 | PDF | 319 pages | 8.4 mb Despite President George W. Bush's assurances that Islam is a peaceful religion and that all good Muslims hunger for democracy, confusion persists and far too many Westerners remain convinced that Muslims and terrorists are synonymous. In the aftermath of the attacks of 9/11, the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the recent bombings in London, an unprecedented amount of attention has been directed toward Islam and the Muslim world. Yet, even with this increased scrutiny, most of the public discourse regarding Islam revolves around the actions of extremist factions such as the Wahhabis and al-Qa'ida. But what of the Islam we don't hear about? As the second-largest and fastestgrowing religion in the world, Islam is deemed by more than a billion Muslims to be a source of serenity and spiritual peace, and a touchstone for moral and ethical guidance. While extremists have an impact upon the religion that is wildly disproportionate to their numbers, moderates constitute the majority of Muslims worldwide. It is this rift between the quiet voice of the moderates and the deafening statements of the extremists that threatens the future of the faith. In The Great Theft, Khaled Abou El Fadl, one of the world's preeminent Islamic scholars, argues that Islam is currently passing through a transformative period no less dramatic than the movements that swept through Europe during the Reformation. At this critical juncture there are two completely opposed worldviews within Islam competing to define this great world religion. The stakes have never been higher, and the future of the Muslim world hangs in the balance. Drawing on the rich tradition of Islamic history and law, The Great Theft is an impassioned defense of Islam against the encroaching power of the extremists. As an accomplished Islamic jurist, Abou El Fadl roots his arguments in long-standing historical legal debates and delineates point by point the beliefs and practices of moderate Muslims, distinguishing these tenets from the corrupting influences of the extremists. From the role of women in Islam to the nature of jihad, from democracy and human rights to terrorism and warfare, Abou El Fadl builds a vital vision for a moderate Islam. At long last, the great majority of Muslims who oppose extremism have a desperately needed voice to help reclaim Islam's great moral tradition.
