Death in the City of Light: The Serial Killer of Nazi-Occupied Paris Overall I thought this was a well researched book. King delved into police reports, trial transcripts, and other sources and provides an extensive bibliography and endnotes. By writing this book David King has brought this true story of an atrocious crime to light that would have been left in the dustbin of history because of it being overshadowed by the events of World War II. Interested in history, crime, serial killers, or World War II, then perhaps this is a must read for you. I found "Death in the City of Light" fascinating to read with many historical details of the time period. I gave it 4 stars except for the reasons above, I would have given it 5 stars.
Deep Blue Secret The author really surprised me with some of the experiences Sadie goes through and I loved how her emotions really hit home with me personally. The author does a great job of taking the story to a deeper level, beyond the typical teen angst and romance. This book may be written for teens, but I am well beyond those years and I still loved it. I love the way the author describes places and events. I could actually picture it in my head. Sometimes I could almost feel the breeze at the beach or the anxiety Sadie was feeling in reaching for that unknown something lingering in the back of her mind or the struggle Rayne felt in trying to do his duty as his feelings for Sadie intensified.
Die Before I Wake Though the theme has been used before (for instance the classic Grant-Bergman movie Notorious) DIE BEFORE I WAKE is a tense contemporary gothic thriller with excellent spins. Laurie Breton keeps the reader off kilter guessing whether Tom is a dangerous menace ready to kill his second wife or a brooding hero unsure what to do to keep his beloved safe. The story line is fast-paced but it is Julie's account of the goings-on that makes the tale exciting and frightening as the audience knows the bumps in the night are real at least in her mind. Ms. Breton provides a one sitting taut tale that keeps fans off balance with doubts between straight deadly suspense and romantic suspense.
Half-Past Dawn: A Thriller Author of The 13th Hour, Richard Doetsch provides a fascinating taut twister filled with numerous spins including one unexpected final climatic shocker. The story line starts with the stunning eye opener and never decelerates as a desperate Jack will do anything to save his beloved three females. Half-Passed Dawn is a superb character driven suspense tale as readers anticipate a showdown between the frantic protagonist and his apparently Oedipus Complex adversary who will kill anyone to achieve his goal but nothing is quite like it seems.
Holding the Zero HOLDING THE ZERO is one of the more complex of Seymour's novels that I've read to date. There's a plethora of interesting characters besides Augustus himself: Meda, Aziz, Meda's military advisor Haquim, Peake's guide and spotter Omar, Aziz's tracker dog Scout, Willet, the minefield-clearer Joe Denton, the Mossad agent Isaac Cohen, and the relief worker Sarah. Ironically, in the Big Picture of a CIA plot to topple Saddam, Aziz and Peake are on the same side, and it's ultimately only mano-amano pride which matches each against the other.

How to Succeed in Evil Brimming with anarchic wit, this book is a refreshingly original antidote to the reams of identikit superhero stories that have marched relentlessly across our pages and screens over the last few years. The well-paced, artfully crafted prose draws you into a world of extraordinary characters - from the cool, calculating protagonist Edwin to his manic henchman Topper and the misguided evil mastermind Dr Loeb. If, like me, you've always preferred your arch-villains to tight-wearing goodygoodies like Superman and Captain America, then this is the book for you. In his own, inimitable style, McLean weaves a rich tale that truly allows his bad guys to shine, and that'll keep you guessing (and chortling) to the last page. Highly recommended.
An Ill Fate Marshalling This is a follow-up to Reap the East Wind. This book is where the Dread Empire story truly begins again. Many references to the earlier books will probably be frustrating this time for those who have not read the Dread Empire trilogy. The characters have grown from their trials, but this doesn't stop them from getting into new trouble. The battles are smaller and more personal, but no less serious for those involved. While each earlier volume is self contained, AIFM ends with a cliff-hanger that has never been resolved. The next volume has been written, but never published. Perhaps the success of Cook's recent books will lead to this series being reprinted and continued. These books deserve a wider audience!
Around the World in 100 Days I would highly recommend this title to young people who enjoy adventure stories with all the details about motorcars and engines, this story will also appeal to kids who, like Harry, enjoy "tinkering." A strong female character in Elizabeth adds some girl appeal as well. While this title is best suited for 10 and up, the content and style are also appropriate for younger readers who read above their grade level.
Crusader Gold This is VERY reminiscent of Cussler - maritime agency, adventurer and ethnic sidekick, chasing treasure and historical figures... The historical backstory is interesting, the villians paper-thin and stereotypical, the plotting a bit jumbled... All in all it is a decent read but nothing great and not as polished or accomplished as a Cussler.
Death Bringer The sixth instalment in the historic, hysterical and horrific Skulduggery Pleasant series. Think you've seen anything yet? You haven't. Because the Death Bringer is about to rise! The Necromancers no longer need Valkyrie to be their Death Bringer, and that's a Good Thing. There's just one catch. There's a reason the Necromancers don't need her any more because they've found their Death Bringer already, the person who will dissolve the doors between life and death. And that's a very, very Bad Thing!

But the Ruinous Powers can take many forms, and now a more insidious threat is rising from within – a Slaaneshi cult that seeks to claim dominion in Praag. Shunned by her Lahmian sisters, decried by the humans she seeks to protect, Ulrika treads a lonely
path as she tries to find the root of this destructive plot. Caught between the will of the vampires and the insane designs of Chaos sorcerers and cultists, Ulrika must call upon all of her cunning and savagery if she is to triumph...
Capacity My head nearly exploded reading this book. There are a lot of different and cool concepts in the book dealing with multiple versions of people, plots which span for centuries, etc. A lot of the future tech is explained in the 'Recursion' and, the author doesn't slow down to explain things into detail. A reviewer mentioned that Ballantyne's descriptions is like reading a screenplay - very sparse which I agree with (sometimes more sparse than a script!) I just finished reading 'Recursion' and would have enjoyed Capacity more if I read it in sequence. So if you're thinking about jumping into this author's work, I recommend you read them in order. Definitely worth the read if you're looking for new perspectives and complex story lines.
Deceiver In short, you can't really understand "Deceiver" without reading the ten previous novels. By itself, it is about a human regional lord, but he is the alien, and lord over entirely Atevi inhabitants of his small realm. His power as a lord is provided entirely through the natives, and is subject to the very complex overlapping loyalties of those natives. As a human, he has almost no power at all his task is to figure out how best to be a regional lord of the Atevi, and to keep their conflicting needs, desires and loyalties from erupting into a planetary war. On the other hand, if you read "Deceiver" as being the latest chapter in a very, very long novel, rather than as a stand-alone work, it is a gem: a transitional chapter taking the main character, Bren Cameron, from being a vital, but peripheral member of the court of the ruling Aiji (in essence,
planetary ruler) and turning him into a human who can, for the first time, take an independent role in the politics of the planet. It is a big, fat, juicy stage setting for the twelfth novel, and like any fan of Cherryh's intensely intimate third-person narrative style, I felt "Deceiver" was around 500 pages too short. As readers, we don't know what happens next, but we do know that it will change the world. And we want that twelfth novel NOW.
Divergence The book is thoughtful and exciting, though it's not as fast-paced as the first two novels (but as part of the fair exchange it gives you more to think about), and maybe when Eva Rye turns up again, you'll wish she hadn't. The scenes with her, now living in the mostly Watcher-free Russian Free State, go on a bit too long and the author force-feeds us PC material about disabled people that the novel could have done without. But that's a minor complaint. The book is compelling.
Frankenstein: The Dead Town The war against humanity is raging. As the small town of Rainbow Falls, Montana, comes under siege, scattered survivors come together to weather the onslaught of the creatures set loose upon the world. As they ready for battle against overwhelming odds, they will learn the full scope of Victor Frankenstein’s nihilistic plan to remake the future—and the terrifying reach of his shadowy, powerful supporters.

The Nobody Much of THE NOBODY features Cryer regaining his memory in various institutions as he searches for who he was before the stabbing, while simultaneously searching for the person who killed his family. Suspects abound and at times the tension gets as high as I've ever read in a Piccirilli tale. You probably won't guess who the killer is until the page he or she is revealed.
The Sword of Straw I thoroughly enjoyed Nathan's venturing into the universe where the second of the Grail relics is sequestered. Well written people with consistant understandable motivations interact with our boy hero. One thing that bothers me, though. I have NO idea why the author, or perhaps her editor felt it necessary to utilize "the f-word" in her story. Yeah, it was just once, but it seems egregious and unnecessary. Still and all, this was an excellent middle book...
The Tennis Party Nothing is as it appears, as Charles finds out that his wife's financial situation, which he believed to be unshakable, is a disaster. Cressida, for her part, finds out that her husband has been dallying with his ex-paramour, and Stephen learns that his good friend Patrick is little more than an opportunistic crook. The entire situation blows up into a fracas that is both amusing and satisfying. Wickham's sly and understated British humor is evident throughout the book, as is her excellent writing style. Readers who crave Rosamunde Pilcher with an edge will love Madeleine Wickham's The Tennis Party.
Tomorrow We Die Shawn Grady's fiction takes you into a world where daily routine is life and death. His main characters are firefighters and paramedics, and since he lives in that world he brings a sense of reality into his stories. Reading his novels, I feel I'm riding along, witnessing work that sometimes pulls people from the brink of death, and sometimes can't. In Tomorrow We Die, Grady follows his terrific debut novel, Into the Fire, with another intriguing mystery populated by fascinating characters and the feel of truth that can only come from the author having personal experience in the world he chronicles. It's an engrossing story and the lines in it converge into a climax fit for the screen. I plowed through it in a weekend and didn't want it to end. You'll have a different feeling when you hear the wail of a passing siren after reading Shawn Grady's books.
Unaccustomed Earth I was mesmerized by the writing in this book. Many characters were so well drawn that then the story about them came to an end, I was almost in mourning. I wanted to hear more, to follow them longer. Although I am not of Bengali (or even Indian) heritage, all these stories spoke to me. They talk of universal issues, with tenderness and understanding. A stunningly good book.

Victory Square I learned much, I hope, from these novels about what life was like in Eastern Europe during the cold war, from the point of view of citizens who loved their homeland and accomodated themselves to imposed ideaology, even to the point of embracing it, with patience and perspective, without giving up their respect for their own culture. I also appreciated the concluding scenarios, which remind us that change may be nothing more than change itself.
You'd Better Watch Out Piccirilli is a master of not only noir, where his characters are drawn as honest people drawn down the road to their despair and destruction, but also hardboiled matters, where we get pure pedal to the metal action. Here you've got a realistic world of blood and vengeance, an anti-hero you actually root for, and a powerful narrative that will yank you along by the heartstrings. Another winner from one of my favorite writers of crime fiction.
After Lacey took the blame immediately. (If it weren't for her stalling that morning then the accident never would've happened, and her father would still be with them.) As the family begins to crumble, Lacey takes on the role of nurse, angel, and nanny to her mother and brothers. She also must fight the strange looks that she gets in school from friends and teachers, as they try to console her. She feels almost like an alien when people offer her hang-dog expressions and whispers behind her back. In addition, Lacey's best friend has found her first "love" and has decided to spend most of her time with her boyfriend. She, too, has difficulties at home. Although her father is very much alive, her parents are going through a divorce and her mother and father have become changed people right before her eyes.
Amber's Blood Mates Amber Holland meets a tall dark, sexy stranger at her brother and sister in law's tenth anniversary party. Alexei Stoniski knows Amber is his and his brother Dimitri's, Blood Mate as soon as she enters the ballroom of the elite hotel. He tries strike up a conversation with his mate, but is given the brush off. He and his brother Dimitri follow Amber back to her apartment and use their vampire powers to persuade Amber into inviting them into her home. When she takes ill they look after her and take her back to their home. They end up having to convert Amber into a vampire when she doesn't listen to their warnings and inadvertently, nearly get herself killed. Amber escapes from them and ends up in the hands of a Rogue vampire. Her mates rescue her and just when they think the danger is finally over. More danger comes their way. Will her mates be able to save her from the Rogues and demon after their mate. Or will the demon prevail?
Blood and Iron This story continues the story of Karel a strange robot that survived the conquest of Turing City on his quest to rescue his wife Susan from Artemis City and it also follows the former commander, Kavan of the Artemis Army on his return to the same city. We don't know much about the second continent Yukawa but here we get to follow Wa-Ka-Mo-Do a newly appointed commander that has to deal with the newly arrived humans.

The Ghost Writer I would LOVE to go into more detail, but that would force me to basically make this review a whole bunch of evil SPOILERS. And that's just not fair. Let me just say that the ending leaves much to be desired (unless I've just suddenly suffered serious brain dysfunction and can no longer analyze plot like I used to). BUT...I suspect this would be a FANTASTIC book club book. Everybody would have their own theories, and there would be a lot of arguing and screaming and wailing, and isn't that what a good book club is all about?
The London Train Though it lacked the strong emotional component I crave to make a book a favorite, I can certainly see why THE LONDON TRAIN was longlisted for the Orange Prize and is generating buzz. The story's strength, like all good books, lies with the characters. For good or for ill, these were people I really got to know. Without much difficulty, I could probably sketch you a list of their likes and dislikes, pains and triumphs. They're people who will stay with me, especially Paul. It brings chance encounters to new, romantic and heartbreaking heights.
The Mayan Codex I love reading anything about the Mayans. This book was wonderful, full of adventure and lots of research done on the subject.
The Necromancer's Apprentice: Gothic Fantasy I was intrigued by the artwork and the blurb on the back of the book. For 99 cents, I felt that if it wasn't good, it would be no great loss. However, I can state I was pleasantly rewarded with a dark tale about this girl who quickly becomes a woman. But not a typical woman found in tales where knights are needed to rescue her. Indeed, in this story you will love the interesting twist put on the role of "princess" and knight. If there were any complaints, it would be I wanted more and more. I look forward to reading more titles from this author.
The Painter of Battles Whether you'll enjoy The Painter of Battles is entirely dependent on what you are looking to gain from it. If you want intrigue and fast-paced action, you won't find it here. If you want a considerable amount of introspection and don't mind sitting down to paragraphs that last for two pages or more, give it a try. In the end, all I can say is this: Take the time to let it settle and sift it through your thoughts, your own memories, photographs you've taken and ones you've seen, and only then decide what the novel meant to you.

The Seance The social niceties of the time are particularly well drawn in the women's narratives and journals. Unchaperoned ladies and unsuitable husband material are almost as much to be feared as the manor house that binds the various characters. Eleanor's toxic mother is especially outraged when marriage to an artist threatens to heap social stigma on her family.
The scenes in and around Wraxford Hall are deliciously creepy. The weather-staples of Victorian mystery stories - the bone-chilling cold, swirling mists and lightning - are much in evidence as the protagonists attempt to uncover the secrets that they and the house share. If you've already enjoyed John Harwood's excellent first novel, The Ghost Writer, or, if Victorian-era mystery stories are your thing, you won't want to miss `The Seance'. This is a compelling and highly atmospheric novel from a superb writer.
The Silent Girl: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel I have loved all of Tess Gerritson's thrillers and this one The Silent Girl: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel is no exception. The story is set in Boston and has a strong sense of place when the plot develops. This story is about a chilling murder in Boston's china town where detective Jane Rizzoli finds a red haired woman murdered on a roof top with a severed hand which they find in the alley below. Between the detective and the medical examiner, Dr. Maura Isles, they look for clues. Some of the clues are given early in the book and it is very interesting how the team tries to connect all the clues and then discover secrets of an ancient Chinese legend and all its dangers...
The Spymaster's Lady Consequence brings together two enemies who are forced to become tenuous allies in the most perilous circumstance. Annique Villers , the elusive Fox Cub, is the most brilliant, beautiful and dangerous French Spy. Robert Grey, the Head of the British Section, is a ruthless spymaster. One holds the key to the fate of two countries. The other, the will and determination to unlock those secrets. Both are serving two conflicting masters one of the world and one of the heart.
The Third Person: A Journey into the Heart of Darkness This book kept me glued all the way through, couldn't put it down for a minute. The narrative is amazing and this book is equally likely to leave you laughing, crying and looking within yourself. Steve is obviously an up and coming new talent in British fiction.
The Treasure Map of Boys Ruby's strong voice and writing style are once again present in this book. Her footnotes, her notes at the beginning of the chapters, and uncommonly used words are all back and make Roo as entertaining as ever. The best part about Roo in this book is that she finally learns to grow. She still has her panic attacks, and freaks out over boys, but by the end, she really learns some lessons she needed to learn in order to make herself a better person. It got a little preachy when she went over all the things she had learned throughout the book, but it still showed that she is finally growing up.

The White City Two murders, six years apart, set in the White City, an alternate history Moscow where magic mixes with a vaguely steampunk-ish technology and science. Don Sebastien de Ulloa, detective and wampyr, has returned to the city with his small court, Lady Abigail Irene, a forensic sorcerer and writer, Phoebe Smith, and he is once again entangled in a murder. Like the one in the past, it involves the artist Irina. The two murders are related in more ways than that, and we follow them both as they slowly are unraveled. Bear's writing is as precise and evocative as always. Themes of loss and fragility also intertwine with these two threads that are really one and seeking to make the best of life amongst it all is there to enrich the tale as well.
Unnatural History: Pax Britannia Series For me this was a bit lazy and while I know "Unatural History" is not high art, and irrespective of whether Green wants this to be Steampunk or otherwise, this haphazard thinking stole a little of the enjoyment for me. (And I will note that I **think** there was an attempt to cover this off with the motivations of the bad guys wanting to cut out the rotten core of the Empire, but even with that things did not make sufficient sense any time you actually stopped to think even a little bit about them.) So, a good effort as an adventure novel but only Steampunk Lite in terms of technology as a supporting cast member.
Vortex Wilson managed, yet again, to pique my interest in this story within the first few pages. He has a great way of introducing and developing characters to be believable, as well as people the reader comes to genuinely care about. Overall I am more than satisfied with Vortex, although I wish it could have lasted just a little bit longer! Vortex is a story in and of itself, rooted in the world of Spin and Axis. Its focus is not on completing the story of either of the two previous books. Instead it focuses on human nature, and the characters all shared an underlying sense of isolation. There were aspects of the story that took me by surprise, but it kept me on edge and made it difficult to put down. The last section of the book is the real kicker, and Wilson orchestrates it beautifully. If you are a fan of Wilson's work, pick up Vortex, while it may not be quite what you expect, trust me when I say it won't disappoint. If you're knew to the world of the Spin, then I urge you start form the beginning and enjoy the journey.
Angels and Hunters Torn... Between two vampire sisters...mere rivalry has become deadly. Between two loves...one will be the key to redemption, the other will destroy them. The battle has begun... Angels and Hunters.
A Dance with Dragons A Dance With Dragons...is a book. It is a very good book. A very very VERY good book, take my word for it. The cover art is phenomenal, so much that you just want to stare at it, pluck it from the shelf and purchase it, without ever knowing what its even aboot. Its that good. And you should purchase it. You really really REALLY should! Take my word for it. The cover shows the image of a golden shield, with dragons engraved upon it. When you run your fingers over it you can feel the indentations and know magically that this is a very good book. Above the shield lies the name of the author, George R.R. Martin, who is a very good author. A very very VERY good author. Take my word for it. Feel free to buy his other works, which are also very good. Your life just may depend on it. Below the shield is the novel's name, A Dance with Dragons. When I read this title, I knew instantly that I was aboot to read a good book. A very very VERY good book. The book is heavy. Very very very...okay, maybe not that heavy. The book has aboot 1000 pages of incredible story, written with crisp and clear black ink that will make you want to just stare at the words for hours. Take my word for it. But not before you purchase it. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Or I will be very very VERY sad! Take my word for it.

A Land of Ash
I started reading this and just couldn't stop. Usually when I buy a book of short stories, I read one here and there between other books kind of a way to cleanse the palate of my mind between books. With these, I started reading and just couldn't stop.
The Demon's Surrender This is a strong trilogy, particularly because I truly feel that each book stands firmly on its own, including this one. Read them. Read them all, in order, and enjoy the amazing world that Sarah Rees Brennan has graciously shared with the rest of us. I sincerely hope that she intends to write more in this world sometime in the future, because she has created a masterpiece of modern urban fantasy.
The Drop David Blake is a white-collar criminal, working for gangster Bobby Mahoney, enjoying the good life while the money keeps on pouring in. The trouble is, a big chunk of that money has just gone missing, along with Geordie Cartwright, and Blake is getting the blame. Has Geordie run off with the drop, or has he been killed by a rival gang? As Blake goes deeper into the Newcastle underworld, a seedy and violent place filled with dodgy clubs, pubs, lap-dancing bars, and brothels, he slowly starts to uncover the truth there's a rat in Bobby's crew and someone else is planning a take-over. Meanwhile with the crime squad and an ambitious D.I. both closing in on Bobby, it's just a matter of time before he's finally nicked for good. If that weren't enough, he has to choose between his girlfriend and his boss's gorgeous young daughter, who could be the most dangerous person in his life right now, if her dad finds out. In a desperate and bloody finale, Blake has to make an agonizing choice, and someone has to pay the ultimate price.
The Fencing Master The Fencing Master combines a gripping plot, elegant prose, and intense, powerful descriptions of fencing duels that may at times leave you breathless. Think of the grace and beauty in Hemingway's depiction of bullfighting in The Sun Also Rises, and you may have some sense of how masterfully Perez-Reverte has captured the essence of the art of fencing. With each turn of the page you will feel transported to a different time and place. The stylish prose and authoritative narrative voice fill this novel with an authentic period feel. And each sentence conveys an understated sense of strength, pride, honor, integrity, and passion that make this book and its hero simply unforgettable.

She finds a dead body which might be Willie's but which she is not able to identify without dental records. As her investigation proceeds, Charlie is confronted with old treasure maps, fights over mineral rights, and more dead bodies. Since Charlie's husband, Drake, is off fighting a fire, she is pretty much on her own and ends up going on a literal treasure hunt.

Running with the Pack I almost never give 5 stars to an anthology as there are usually some poor stories in there. These range from a trip to the underworld kind of boring and very symbolic but very well written and if you aren't a lore master might be better to the tragedy of the last story. The Vaughn is a back story on T.J. and is better if you have read Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, Book 1) but that isn't needed I recommend the book is the start of an excellent series. But many of the authors are unfamiliar and most of the stories are great, a really good surprise. The Editor has refrained for writing for he volume and shows a lot of talent in selecting excellent stories.

Stories This is a custom book that gathers together 110 of Joe R. Lansdale's short stories/novellas into a single place.
Tequila's Sunrise The title story here, Tequila's Sunrise (A Fable), is the true star here. This engrossing tale will appeal to fans of Keene and those unfortunate few who haven't discovered him yet. Keene's mythos explodes within this story but for those of you not familiar with Keene's work, it is still a great and entertaining read. The rest of the stories in this edition range from the disturbing to the outright beautiful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this title for fans of Keene or for fans of horror in general.

The Marked Son Dylan is one hundred percent blow-your-mind awesome guy material. Dylan had my heart breaking for him when his mom abandoned him, and his mess-up life. But now that he founded Kera, the girl of his dreams, who's shown Dylan who and what he really is, there is no sacrifice Dylan won't make to love and protect her in order to be with her. Kera is from Teag another dimension and she's a headstrong, self-assured girl. And when she sees Dylan, she knows he's her forever love and white knight. Dylan's two best buds, Leo and Jason, are right by Dylan's side on this wild, magical adventure. Jason is a wild card, he had me in hysterics with his witting mouth and take on the world. Leo is laid
back, easy going kind of guy, but he's smarter than he seems, and when he meets Lucinda, I laughed so hard I cried. Shea Berkley did a jam-up job describing a guy like Leo in this kind of predicament. I could just see poor Leo wanting to find a rock to crawl under. I love both these guys. They're funny, terrific , beautiful, and this thing Leo has going on with scary, sensual, sadistic Lucinda, I can't wait to see more of them!
The Memory Palace I don't particularly care for harrowing survivor memoirs from children of abusive or mentally ill family members. They almost always come off as sensational, blaming, or whining diatribes, and do we really need another one of those? The good news is The Memory Palace doesn't even come close to falling into that trap. Mira Bartok's story of her relationship with her schizophrenic mother who eventually becomes homeless is at once compelling, compassionate, and possesses some of the most beautiful and lyrical prose I've ever read in memoir. And did I mention it's also a page-turner? However, what really sets this book apart is how Bartok integrates her beautiful artwork into the structure of the book to help recall her past and to bring her authentic story to the page. The Memory Palace is essentially an illustrated memoir that details the incredible bond between mother and daughter, the issue of homelessness, and how we, as a nation, perceive mental illness and disability in our culture. It is a visceral and profound story, and is so much more than a blur of one sensational event after another. This is an artful memoir of an examined life, one that exudes strength, determination, and above all, love. Highly recommended.
Night Falls on the Wicked
Once again, Ms. Kohler has given us a rivoting story full of action and emotion that keeps you turning the pages until the very end. The love story is a wonderful combination of both touching and sensual, giving hope to two damaged people who have given up on happiness. This is a great read for paranormal fans who are looking for an exciting, tightly written story with a lot of heart...
Raffles Holmes & Company Don't expect this novel to fit seamlessly with the Sherlock Holmes canon, because it doesn't. And it absolutely doesn't fit with Raffles. It doesn't fit well -at all- with Raffles. It fits tolerably well with Holmes, surprisingly. I would juggle the dates given in the second chapter (which is the "secret origin" chapter, how Raffles Holmes came to be), moving it from the early 1880s after Holmes met Watson to the late 1870s, when Holmes was in private practice and may have shared a few adventures with Reginald Musgrave. (No, this isn't one of those adventures, and Watson doesn't appear in the narrative.) The trickier question is where it all fits for Raffles. Raffles simply isn't old enough to be Raffles Holmes' grandfather. Hence, Raffles Holmes must actually be Raffles' nephew, that his mother is not (as Raffles Holmes believes) Raffles' daughter but his heretofore unknown sister, posing as Raffles' daughter for similar reasons as the Stapledons posed as brother and sister in Doyle's great novel, "The Hound of the Baskervilles," to pull off a scam. Raffles Holmes, for whatever reason, doesn't know this, but this fits better for Holmes and Raffles. I won't call this a great novel. It's a -fun- novel. A goofy novel, and one deserving of greater recognition from both fans of the Great Detective and the Amateur Cracksman.

The Body Mind Purification Program (1990) | Language: English | ISBN-10: 0671685260 | PDF | 190 pages | 39 mb
These two books promise to cure any ills by ridding our bodies of impurities, in much the same way that traveling medicine shows did in days gone by. Hendler's book repackages the same lists of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and seaweeds that he used in the Oxygen Breakthrough ( LJ 4/15/89), only this time he uses these substances to purge the body of addictions and obesity. Chaitow's Body/Mind Purification Program is well-illustrated and includes tests for readers to determine their level of toxicity. Chaitow's British accent contrasts nicely with Hendler's California style, and it may be a relief for some to know that our British cousins are at least as toxic as we are. The cornerstone of Chaitow's program is a ten- or 30-day detox regimen. His fruit and vegetable diets offer nothing more than dozens of other diets now available. Both of these books may appeal to a group of patrons that physicians would classify as "the worried well." Most libraries can safely skip these without having a gap in their health collection.

You Say More Than You Think: A 7-Day Plan for Using the New Body Language to Get What You Want English | 2011 | ISBN: 0307453987, 0307453995 | 240 pages | epub | 6,5 MB Now You’re Talking! Do you want to be bulletproof at work, secure in your relationship, and content in your own skin? If so, it’s more important than ever to be aware of what your body is saying to the outside world. Unfortunately, most of what you’ve heard from other body language experts is wrong, and, as a result, your actions may be hurting, not helping, you. With sass and a keen eye, media favorite Janine Driver teaches you the skills she used every day to stay alive during her fifteen years as a body-language expert at the ATF. Janine’s 7-day plan and her 7-second solutions teach you dozens of body language fixes to turn any interpersonal situation to your advantage. She reveals methods here that other experts refuse to share with the public, and she debunks major myths other experts swear are fact: Giving more eye contact is key when you’re trying to impress someone. Not necessarily true. It’s actually more important where you point your belly button. This small body shift communicates true interest more powerfully than constant eye contact. The “steeple” hand gesture will give you the upper hand during negotiations and business meetings. Wrong. Driver has seen this overbearing gesture backfire more often than not. Instead, she suggests two new steeples that give you power without making you seem overly aggressive: the Basketball Steeple and the A-OK Two-Fingered Steeple. Happy people command power and attention by smiling just before they meet new people. Studies have shown that people who do this are viewed as Beta Leaders. Alpha leaders smile once they shake your hand and hear your name. At a time when every advantage counts—and first impressions matter more than ever—this is the book to help you really get your message across.

The Korean War: A History
2010 | ISBN-10: 0679643575 | EPUB, MOBI, PDF | 320 pages | 6 MB An academic specialist on Korean history, Cumings believes Americans have amnesia about the Korean War of 1950–53. Or is it the Korean War of 1931 to the present? Cumings goes back that far for an origin to hostilities, seating them in the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and characterizing what happened in June 1950 as an intensification of a Korean civil war, though one definitely escalated by North Korea. These contexts, including the American occupation of South Korea from 1945–48, are more important in Cumings' treatment than the specifically military history of the war, which is dominant in popular American memory of the war. The picture Cumings presents does not flatter American policies, which take hits for supporting a ruthless South Korean government and for destroying North Korean cities. Chronicling atrocities perpetrated by the South, Cummings does not exonerate those committed by the North; the comparison serves his proposition that America intervened in a civil war, to its detriment. Cumings' historical expertise will be highly informative background material for those watching the current explosive potential of the North Korean situation.

This online (no need to download) program does the same job and it's really easy to use when you want to convert MOBI and ePUB files: http://ebook.onlineconvert.com/convert-to-pdf Open .epub files on your PC! If you find an epub file and would like to open and read it on your computer, then use the firefox browser and simply download the following add on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/
Once you have done this, you can read all those extra books that are only in epub format... easy! Note: Program to open comics (.cbr files) If you would like to read the comics you will need to open .cbr files. The is a free program that will allow you to read them. Go to http://comical.sourceforge.net/ and download the program (links are in the bottom right panel). Save the program to your computer, then, once downloaded, double click on it and install the program Note for Movie Downloaders: Some movies, after downloading, will not play on 'Windows Media Player' (for example, you can hear sound but no video!), so we suggest that you download an extra player like 'Gom Media Player' (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html) or 'Real Player/ (http://www.real.com/realplayer). Both are free to use!. Once you have downloaded the movie, simply 'right click' on the movie file and 'open with' the player of your choice Extra Note for .MKV Movie Files: If you find a movie in .MKV format where GOM Player will play the movie but has no soundtrack, try a different FREE .MKV player, like this one: http://mkv-player.en.softonic.com/download
Zipped files are easy to open. Simply click on the book links, taking you directly to the download page. Click on the 'Free User' button (each host is a little different, but all offer free download, you just have to wait a few seconds!), click the download button and your book will start to download. Once fully downloaded, your computer will ask you if you want to OPEN or SAVE the file. We suggest that you first SAVE the file to a place on your computer, eg; My Documents. Once you have done this, you can easily find the file, and by clicking on it, it will open. You will then see all the smaller files inside. You can either select all of these at once (click on the top one, then hold down your SHIFT key while you click on the bottom one, then click EXTRACT. It will then ask you where to save the files to (we suggest My Documents for now unless you have already created a new folder and place you would like to keep them). The programme will then save the files. If you prefer, You can also OPEN the file straight away. It will then start to gradually load the file. Once it is ready (100% loaded), you can then click OPEN again, and you will see all the smaller files in the box. Select one or ALL of these files, and click the 'EXTRACT TO' link. You will then be given a choice of places you can save the UNZIPPED files.
