The Prophet: A Shepherd Thriller Ethan Cross is a very fluent writer and holds your attention from start to finish. It was interesting to see where each of the evil characters came from and how they had evolved. And it was interesting learning how the police, FBI and Dept of Justice thought out their plans to resolve the crime wave in Chi -Town! If you have a liking for a past paced, suspense-thriller, you really ought to catch up with The Prophet. It is excellent mystery-thriller reading!
Red Country I am trying to avoid spoilers, but this is Abercrombie at his very best, clever and witty dialogue, brilliant plotting and complex and evolving characters occupying a world of dark violence. There is an element of potential redemption in this one, the authors characters are usually different shades of grey, with dark and violent pasts but one or two here try hard to change and a cornerstone of the plot is whether they will or not. And more than a few faces from previous books appear, but you don't need to have read the previous works (although you will have missed out big time if you haven't)
Red Rain When I found out about this book, I was really excited about it. I had loved R.L. Stine books when I was younger, and I have found that I really missed those books. While I still get enjoyment out of the Goosebumps books, I find that I was longing for an adult version of them a good creepy read with some twists and turns along the way. The book "Red Rain" satisfies this desire! I do admit there were some gaping plot holes, especially when it came to how someone could had been accused of doing something that they clearly had no time to do it in and any competent investigator would have realized it, but these are minor in the grand scheme of this book. It is very entertaining! I began reading it yesterday when I downloaded it for my e-reader and finished a few minutes ago. The only reason why I took off a star for "Red Rain" is because I felt it could have been a little longer and explained a little more. It almost felt like he was constrained and needed to quickly let us in on things that we should have slowly found out about. That being said, any fan of R.L. Stine will enjoy this book, and those who are used to his twists will not be disappointed with this one!
In Sunlight and in Shadow The chapter "Snow" is the finest piece of writing I've read in quite some time. In recounting the experiences his group of pathfinder airborne squadron holding the front lines, waiting for reinforcements in the Winter of 1944-45, Helprin has created a minor masterpiece of a short story or novella. If you start the book and decide that it's not for you and that you can't even consider finishing it - I imagine this will be the case for many readers. - please at least skip to this chapter and read it. It's worth the entire rest of the meandering opus.
Feedback Feedback by Robison Wells is the sequel to the fantastic YA sci-fi thriller Variant, and as far as YA sequels go, this one is pretty good. This is far from a standalone book - you will need to have read Variant before starting this book - and I will have to spoil some events in the first book in order to properly review this book. So if you haven't read Variant, go do it now, it is a fantastic book. If you have read Variant, then read on and let this review help make it easier for you to decide whether to buy this book right now, or a few minutes from now.

Bianca: The Silk Merchant's Daughters Bianca's fearful of Rovere and his advances turn her stomach but she's a dutiful daughter and so exchanges vows with him as her father dictates. That's where her nightmare truly begins. Rovere's sadistic and debauched but extremely powerful and at his hands she suffers cruelty like she's never known. She's completely cut off from her family but gathers her wits about her and uses Rovere's lust against him - and gets him to agree to allow her mother a visit. Upon hearing about how her daughter has been treated Bianca's mother, Orianna, aids Bianca in escaping Rovere by hiding her in a convent, a place of refuge and safety since even Rovere would not dare defy the church. Once it's deemed safe, Bianca is moved to a sea-side villa where she recovers emotionally and falls in love with her neighbor Amir. However, she won't defy her marriage vows and until her marriage is annulled will not consider allowing him into her bed.
Batavia Though I have often found the author painful when in group interviews as he generally likes to dominate every conversation I do think he can write a reasonable and readable story as he did with Kokoda and now this. His enthusiasm for the project has rewarded the reader with a great story and one that all Australians should know about. So having said that I think it's an amazing story that should end up on film and as Fitzsimons say's it's a bigger story than Titanic with every possible element. Shipwreck, Mutiny, Murder, Rape, Greed and Survival among them. The Dutch have the replica of the Batavia that must be fairly accurate in size as its mast would only fit under the Sydney Harbour Bridge on a low tide when it arrived during the 2000 Olympics. That ship alone would help make a wonderful movie. The Dutch could also celebrate this story being bought to the screen not so much for the brutality of it and the indifference of the first world wide corporation but for the courage and heroism of those early sea captains in those magnificent tall ships when they were such a powerful nation.
These Girls Sarah Pekkanen has quickly become one of my favorite authors to follow. Her characters are so real and raw that it's not hard to place yourself in their situations. I could especially relate to Renee who is vivacious, funny and friends with just about everyone. Even as she lifts everyone else up and tells them how beautiful and special they are she just cannot seem to see that same beauty in herself. All the women are funny, dynamic and perfectly flawed so you can find yourself laughing at them one minute and crying along with them the next.
The Sin Eater The sins of the past break through to the present in this chilling tale of supernatural suspense. - When Benedict Doyle finds himself the owner of his great-grandfather’s North London house, it stirs memories of his time there as a frightened eight-year-old and the strange glimpses that revealed the darkness in his family’s past, through which runs the grisly thread of an old legend about a chess set believed to possess a dark power. And when Michael Flint, meeting Benedict in Oxford, starts to research his story, chilling facts begin to emerge – facts that suggest the old legend contains a disturbing reality. Could the chess set’s malevolence be reaching out to the present?
The Two Kings This series is my top favorite. New type of story that is amazing. It's the longest books I have read yet the quickest ones I have read. Can't get enough and so excited to see what the upcoming ones bring. So addicting.

The Undertow The long-running series featuring Australian private investigator Cliff Hardy rolls along smoothly. This time Frank Parker, a retired policeman, tells Cliff that a convicted murderer (now dead) might have been innocent, and that he, Parker, was guilty of a massive conflict of interest, having had an affair with the convicted man's wife. Cliff is fascinated, but how do you go about solving a crime that happened nearly a quarter-century ago? As usual, Corris, who is hailed as the father of Australian crime fiction, draws us completely into Cliff's world and, thanks to the Australian setting, makes the story feel utterly fresh.
The Unfailing Light The Unfailing Light picks up more or less where the The Gathering Storm left off. After the battle with the lich tsar Konstantin, Katiya enjoyed a few weeks of peace. All she really wants now is to forget about the darkness inside her and move away to Zurich to pursue her medical career. Just when she's about to leave Russia, she discovers that the lich tsar Konstantin has not been destroyed after all. There's a traitor among the wizard of the Order, someone supporting Konstantin and plotting against the tsar. Katiya's life is once again in great danger. Ordered to remain in St. Petersburg, Katiya goes back to her old school at Smolny. But will she be truly safe there? What she doesn't yet know is that the protective spell cast on the school by the empress unleashed an old vengeful spirit and, while no threat from the outside can get in to harm her, she herself is unable to leave the school to escape the murderous ghost.
The Value of Life The story is set in London and the surrounding area and written with British tones. Fast moving, I had this read in less than a day. I could not figure out K's reasoning until it was revealed in the story. I enjoyed the ride with Josef as his mind tried to keep up with the case, even though the count kept rising.
The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury If you've read The Rise of the Governor (if you haven't stop reading), then you'll know that the Governor isn't who he says he is, and he's in fact Brian Blake pretending to be his brother, Phillip. There's one scene in the book where Brian/Phillip has a bit of an identity crisis when "Brian" comes back to the surface to see all the horrible things he's done as "Phillip." I loved this scene and am glad they included it because after reading "Rise" a few months ago I felt almost cheated that Brian ended up being Phillip.
The Wrong Man The story starts with the death of a paralegal on her way home and evolves into a terrorist threat. Jason Kolarich becomes the attorney for an Iraqi veteran who has been accused of the crime and he does not communicate well with anyone since he suffers from flashbacks to his experiences in Iraq. As Kolarich and his team search for a possible defense and have motion after motion denied by a strict judge they begin to wonder if there was something in the paralegal's past that may have led to the shooting, not the robbery that the veteran is accused of in what appears to be an open and shut case for the prosecution. As the team works they begin to see that there is more to the case then first meets the eye. The book is full of twists and turns right up to the end and is a very good read.

Titanic Ashes This is a short, but moving, novel about an evening at the Palm Room at the Ritz in 1925, when the people at two tables become aware of each other. At one is Bruce J Ismay and his daughter Evelyn. At the other are Mr and Mrs Grimsden, their daughter Miranda and the young man she is to marry. Thirteen years ago Mrs Grimsden and her daughter Miranda, who was only ten at the time, were first class passengers on Titanic's maiden voyage.
UnWholly UnWholly by Neal Shusterman takes place a little after the end of Unwind. We are immediately introduced to a new character, Starkey, who is undoubtedly going to be the villain of the piece, who vies with Conner (our protagonist from the first book) for leadership of the Unwinds. We are then in short order introduced to new characters in the next few chapters all who have eerie resemblance to the ones we all know. Miracolina is the poster child for a tithe, a person who is raised to be unwound. She is our new Lev. And so on. The story revolves around these new characters, and the struggle of Connor, Risa, and Lev to keep their ragtag band of teenagers safe from being unwound. It's a thankless job. The most unique addition to this group is Cam, a composite created from many Unwinds, taking the best from them and putting them all together in one being a modern day Frankenstein. I believe that this introduction saves the book.
Whether I'll Live or Die "Whether I'll Live or Die" is a riveting read that evokes several emotional responses as you read. The book details the lives of "Amanda" and "Nicole", two women who appear to be very different from the beginning of the book, but who become inextricably tied together by the end in a surprising and poignant twist. From beginning to end, both of their stories are raw and real, one trying to cope with an ongoing cycle of domestic abuse, the other dealing with life as a police officer inevitably drawn into violent crime. If you have an aversion to graphic violence or abuse, this is not the book for you. You will find traces of fairy tale love and romance, but it serves more as intermittent relief from an ongoing theme of brutality throughout the entire novel rather than hold a place as a prominent theme of its own.
Wrayth: A Book of the Order The Empire of Arkaym is in disorder as the rippling effects of the geists and their attacks still rock the foundation of their world. What begins to unfurl in this Empire is deceit and destruction all in the name of ideals as the Order will soon be delved a crippling blow that will change everyone's future forever. Sorcha is laid up from the devastating aftermath of her magical expenditure in Spectyr and being unable to move or speak is beginning to build up on her sanity. Merrick is hunting after a cure for his partner Sorcha but as he soon discovers something is afoot in the Order, Sorcha is moved sending Merrick on a chase to save himself as a royal kidnapping is placed upon his head, and the dangerous Order of the Stars and the previous Native Orders are acting in the present against the royal family.
The Atheist The Atheist is a story of three friends, the Atheist the master manipulator, Desmond the poor sap of a best friend and good MD, and Maria the lady whom both men love. The story is told from Desmond's point of view. It begins with the untimely and quite unbelievable death of the Atheist and Desmond's quest to accept it truly happened. The Atheist, as he is known throughout the book because we are never given another name, enjoyed getting under the skin of those around him. Even though Desmond was his best friend he was perhaps played for the biggest fool. He always sought out his friend's opinion on all matters, knew he was being manipulated, but continued to allow himself to be manipulated. It was almost as if he was unable to break free even though we read quite a few times in the book Desmond felt his life would have been better off without the influence of the Atheist in it.

The Bloodletter's Daughter The Bloodletter's Daughter is a highly engaging read about a period of time that I was not that familiar with. Marketa works with her father helping him as he performs leechings and purges of bad humors through bloodletting. She also helps her mother in the bathhouse, a public bathing house were women often sell more than a good scrub. She loathes being a bathmaid. Her mother pushes her to
surrender her virginity to patrons to help feed their family. So fair, Marketa has managed to appease her mother by letting the brewer look upon her naked body, but she knows it will not last. She dreams of becoming a serious doctor, like her father. Everything changes when the king's mad son is sent to her town, and her father is asked to help heal him of his madness. What follows is a tale of obsession, madness, and heartache.
The Constant Heart What does it mean to be a decent man? To love well, with fidelity and constancy? These are the lessons that Jake’s father, a wildlife biologist, tries to impart to his son, often on fishing trips to their beloved Furnace Creek. Bound up in the laws of Einstein’s theories, these lessons will ultimately influence Jake’s own career as an astronomer. Out on the creek, both father and son conquer their greatest challenges: marital infidelity, professional setbacks, and Jake’s long term, passionate obsession with his childhood crush.
The Emperor of Paris This is a story about a gone by period of time, it is interesting as well as entertaining. A good read.
The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ The story of Jesus has been proclaimed by Christians as "The Greatest Story Ever Told". Pullman in his story "The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ" makes the point that we can never know what happened especially when we were not present when a story was made. The story of Jesus Christ is a story. It was not sufficiently documented to be history, but even if it were to be taken as history for the sake of argument, Pullman's point was that history as told is not necessarily truth. Truth, he thinks, can be injected into history in any way the story teller wants it. When it travels far enough and is retold often enough, and is, above all, a good story, people will believe it.
The King's Assassin With its engaging thief-taker hero, this YA series from the acclaimed author of The ADAMANTINE PALACE is perfect for fans of Trudi Canavan and Robin Hobb.

The Professionals Laukkanen develops the characters and sets a pace of action and suspense that will take the reader on an unforgettable ride, with memorable characters and actions that touch emotions and keep the pages flipping well into the night. I thought about it, but there was no way I was going to let much needed sleep interfere with reading this action thriller through the last page. After that I took some deep breaths, went to bed and thought about it all night.
The Ruined City I have finally finished this great book! Although, I was expecting more romance between the characters, but it was still a good book. I loved how the author, Paula Brandon, provides the reader with different POV from the main/important characters in the book. To sum up, the whole book was a thrill full with adventure, magic, and suspense. The ending is a cliffhanger and I can not wait to read the third book in this trilogy. I recommend all readers to add Paula Brandon's, "The Veiled Isles Trilogy" to their to-read books shelve.
Property of a Lady Property of a Lady is a proper ghost story, it is not flashy or gory or filled with the standards of a modern horror novel, instead it is classy and timeless. If you are expecting a fast paced, edge of your seat thriller, this is not it, this book creeps up on you and draws you along it is not so much a haunting as it is the mystery of a haunting. The characters are intelligent yet able to suspend belief and immerse themselves in the mystery which makes for pleasant reading. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of ghost stories, it will leave you wanting more.

something far more destructive: a terrifying terrain of conspiracy and potential terrorism on an international scale. And she is the only one who can stop it.

Mercy I liked this book. It was funny, had wonderful characters, snappy dialogue, and a great cast of secondary characters. I would have given this book a five except for the fact that the suspense takes backseat to the romantic side. This isn't necessary a bad thing since the romance is pretty darn good but it really doesn't cut it as a "suspense thriller." However, I have to say while I didn't care for Ms. Garwood's previous novel, Heartbreaker, she has definitely redeemed herself with Mercy. Let me finish with a personal request-please--give us Noah's story!
Killjoy Killjoy is the story of Dr. Mike's (heroine in Mercy) bother John Paul. In this story the killer for hire Monk plays a large part in the story. You will remember him from Mercy as well. If you have not read the previous two books that is ok this story still manages to stand alone. This story is fast paced but it is more supsense and on the edge of your seat reading with a little romance on the side. This seems to be more of a mainstream novel then romance so fans of Ms. Garwood may be a little disappointed by this. I found that the lack of romance was not a bad thing and made the romance between John Paul and Avery more believable since they were not falling into bed right away. The story is well plotted and the character development is also well done. The secondary story and characters add to the telling of the story instead of detracting from it. All in all this is a very strong novel and worth the time it takes to read.
Land of Hope and Glory Author Geoffrey Wilson must be very frustrated because what he has delivered here is rather good. It's an alternative history, with a bit of magic thrown in so it does border on fantasy. Set in 1852 it is the Indian Empire that has expanded into Europe and through use of magic, power and technology pretty much rule everywhere. This is true in what we know as England, although there is rebellion brewing. Retired (and wounded) soldier Jack Casey is forced to help track down the rebels (or his daughter will hang). And Casey has a bit of magic too, it may help him or it may kill him....

Live Through This Because Live Through This is an important and upsetting book. Sexual abuse is something that happens entirely too often, and the way Mindi Scott tells Coley's story is just...perfect. We have moments where we're giddy with Coley over the dorky and cute Reese, or we're laughing with Coley and her best friend Noah (who I love to death, FYI), but there's also this heavy feeling while reading Live Through This that we realize Coley must feel all the time because of what's happening to her.
Let it Snow The book began 10 years after that event. Annie was married to Eric, Max's older brother. Max was home for the first time since Annie and Eric got married. Annie's anguish over Max was apparent from page 1. And author Paul Hina treated it with elegance. Hina presented Annie as a strong woman who may or may not have made a wrong decision 10 years ago. It was up for readers to decide. And this is where the beauty of the storytelling is seen and where Paul Hina as a writer excelled.
Love, Sex & the Wrong Bride Dating in 1980s Manhattan is confusing enough. Then Mike Blitsky a.k.a. Mike Mauvais of "Misled Mike's Marvelous Men," a transvestite escort service bursts into Dawn's life when she becomes the editor of a tell-all memoir he's writing to pay for his legal defense. Unbeknownst to Dawn, Hank is Mike's lawyer, defending him against charges of running a male prostitution ring. Dawn's friend Katherine, a doctoral student in eighteenth century literature, is hired to do research for Mike's book. With everyone working at cross purposes, the result is a modern day comedy of errors that doesn't wind up until the wedding bouquet goes flying in the final scene.
Magnolias, Moonlight, and Murder: An Ellie Avery Mystery Ellie Avery mysteries are based upon a stay at home military wife who finds herself caught up in the middle of murder plots and conspiracy while her family moves about the country wherever her husband gets re-assigned. This story isn't unique but it keeps you guessing on “Who Done It well enough, that you do care that the victim receives justice and the family has closure. Sara Rosett has a different twist to her murder/mystery writing she gives you tips at the end of most chapters in her Ellie Avery mystery series. With Magnolias, Moonlight, and Murder she offers you party planning tips and organization advice. The character Ellie is responsible to put on a party for her husband's recent promotion therefore, you will find at the end of most chapters tips on party planning. I was distracted in finding many grammar errors in this book one is unusual but to find four was disheartening.
Mary Mary Quite Contrary First, my mind is officially blown. It played with my brain. What's real? What's fiction? I stopped several times to research the validity of some of the things you wrote because it was too tantalizing that it couldn't be true. Yet they are.

Nerve It actually goes through that whole, "everything is perfect" phase before heading into hair rasing territory. Vee is the best friend of the most popular girl in school but pining for the hottest guy. She is quiet, she's more of a loner-she's basically the best friend cliche. It is this normalcy and the distinct want to feel something different that forces Vee into the game of NERVE in the first place. As far as reasons go, it was a fairly believable one, even if it was never developed as fully as I'd have liked.
Forgotten: FADE Series Fade is pretty original. Forgotten has sealed Fade as the most original series I've read. While Forgotten is told in simple sentences from Celes Caine's view, the plot is not simple. It's complex and sooo good. Without giving away any spoilers so I don't ruin it for anyone, I didn't expect to find out who Celes Caine was. I would never have guessed. The ending broke my heart but I was completely absorbed into Fade and love Jack and Celes. Grayson nearly won my heart, but Jack is the man. Now, the covers make sense now besides being gorgeous and mysterious.
Ghost Song Harlequin Society employee Hilary Bryant teams up with Robert to uncover the secret of what happened in 1914. Meanwhile her boss Shona Seymour receives a letter asking whether they plan to reopen the Tarleton. While Robert seeks a way into the sealed section, Shona struggles with suppressed memories from her childhood. Hilary learns of the star of the theater Toby Chance who vanished in 1914 after a trip to Sarajevo to protest against Archduke Ferdinand while Robert feels haunted as he hears the tunes of the allegedly Singing Ghost.
Gunmetal Magic The story plot is similar to the first magic book with a strong mystery at its heart but since the previous years the authors have polished their craft and streamlined the story to run parallel to the events of the Kate & Curran novella and thereby keeping the reader on their toes. The author also utilize a new mythology as well as a new villain in their myriad world and for this I have to applaud them thoroughly, their world is now very similar to ours with the all the mythologies and history running parallel to each other. Readers will get to see newer sights in Atlanta and so the authors further expand their worldbuilding repertoire. The readers will surely appreciate this new turn of events and keener minds will of course be trying to discern what this specific tale will mean for the overall saga and for the forthcoming fight between daughter and father.

Halo: Cryptum Greg Bear has a peculiar style, a sense of jumping right into the action and explaining later. Granted, I've only read Eon and Slant, but his peculiar take and writerly skill (apologies to Eric Nylund, but Bear is better at what he does) lends a feel more at home in Hard SF than MilSF. It works, too- Cryptum is an enthralling read and an extremely worthy expansion to the lore of the Halo universe.
North and South: North and South Trilogy North and South is the first novel in a trilogy dealing with the American Civil War, and it is truly a remarkable work well worth reading. I myself have read the novel many times over the past twenty years. The novel focuses on two families--the Hazards of Pennsylvania, and the Mains of South Carolina--during the period from approximately 1840 through the beginning of the Civil War. These two families, bound by close ties of friendship (the sons of each are best friends at West Point and serve in the Army together during the Mexican War) and marriage, find these ties tested by the powerful forces of political and social strife that rocked the country during this period, ultimately leading to civil war.
Love and War: North and South Trilogy Love and War is an excellent book. It picks up where North and South left off. From the moments before the Civil War to the days after the South's surrender this book takes a close look at the Mains and Hazards and their trials throughout the four years. This book, while rather long, is fantastic. It definitely is thought provoking. Mr. Jakes writes from the male standpoint and also the female standpoint. I also thought he conveyed the thoughts and dreams of the slaves in a realistic way. There were characters I loved, such as Billy and Brett and ones I hated, like Ashton and James Huntoon. The ever-evil Bent pops up in the story from time to time wreaking havoc everywhere he goes.
Heaven and Hell: North and South Trilogy Heaven and Hell, the last book in the North and South trilogy was absolutely wonderful. This book is mainly about Charles and his life in the West. And also his trying to find a place in the world after the war. Madeline is also a major character in this book with her journal entries to Orry. And the evil Bent has to make his appearance throughout. (I could have done without Bent!!) The lives of Stanley, Virgilia, Billie, Brett, and the love-to-hate-her Aston aren't covered as much in this book. I would have loved to learn more about Billie and Brett. Also would have liked to read more about Marie-Louise and her Yankee husband Theo. I found the parts of the book about them to be very touching.
In the Bag This was a fun book that would be perfect for a mother daughter book club. It straddles the line between YA and Adult with separate narrations and could be easily stocked in either section. I sped through this book delighted by both romances and the fun set of circumstances that gets both couples together. This is a fun light beach read that mom's can share with their daughters.

In the Band Best part of the book: Riley and Romeo are amazing characters! Riley is 18, just graduated high school and is ready to head to Virginia with her scholarship for marching band. She plays in the drumline and has amazing talent! However, it did not work out that way. Her parents end up breaking up and she has to go to local college so she can take care of her little sister. She missed playing drums so much because that is the one thing that she truly loves. Her friends convince her to try out for a local (very popular) rock band, Luminescent Juliet. Of course she is the best and makes the band!
Iron Winter Iron Winter has all the drama of the first two volumes of the trilogy. The only criticism I have so far (having only just started the book) is a certain lack of continuity between this and Bronze Summer. Whereas Bronze Summer followed on fairly smoothly from Stone Spring there is a gap of many thousand years between 'Summer' and 'Winter'. Although the gaps are so far gradually filled as the story evolves, I feel that the author could have introduced the story with a recap of the previous history. Anybody reading this episode without having experienced the first two volumes would have little understanding of the dynamics of this alternative World history. However having said that I hope that perhaps there may be an "Autumn" conclusion to the series?
Jinxed: Regan Reilly Mysteries JINXED is an action-packed thriller that moves at the speed of light, which leads to a fun time for the audience if one does not mind escapist cerebral cotton candy. The story line is fluff yet the audience will enjoy every page of it and most will finish in one sitting. Regan is a wonderful protagonist while readers will find the antics of the support cast quite pleasant and amusing. Carol Higgins Clark does what she does best entertain her fans.
Collapse I found Collapse to be entertaining, intriguing and scary as hell. To say that the premise of the novel is believable would be an understatement. Although it takes place in 2027, there is not reason that most of this (except Beck's AI technology) couldn't happen in the next six months. Keeping that thought in the back of my mind helped to propel me through reading this book in just a few sittings.
Dead Embers Second guessing every decision she has ever made has left Bryn confused and in a tailspin of self doubt - and without her most trusted friend at her side, she struggles to cope as Ragnorak quickly approaches. Warned by the god's to trust no-one, Bryn is yet again thrust into a journey fraught with betrayal, leading her to question not only her own actions but the actions and intentions of all those around her.

Dirt The novel takes place outside of Sacramento, California in 1985. Galen and his mother live on a walnut orchard surrounded by suburbia. His grandmother has been put in a home because she has dementia. He and his mother visit her daily. Galen is 22 years old and has been wanting to go to college or study a year abroad in France but his mother keeps telling him that they do not have the money. He and his mother, Suzie Q, live off the proceeds of a trust from his grandmother. Galen also has an aunt Helen and cousin Jennifer who are not in his grandmother's favor. Galen refers to them as `the mafia'. "The mafia standing by on the deck, watching with their arms folded. Galen felt almost bad for them for a moment, always on the sidelines. But that was just the order of things. Galen and his mother were first, and they were second, and that was just the way it was. It couldn't be changed."
Disappeared First of all, let me just say that I love historical mysteries, so if you like this genre but also like contemporary thriller type novels, then this you might really enjoy this book. I knew very little about the IRA and the Troubles, so it was interesting on that end alone. I think my favorite thing about this book though were the characters. They were all so well drawn out and interesting. The plot twisted and turned a lot, so you really have to pay attention while reading it, but I think there are too few mystery/thrillers like that these days.
Dream of You: A Laurel Heights Novel I absolutely adore all of the characters. The friendships are so strong and the love scenes even stronger. For anyone looking for a good book, you should definitely read this series. All the books are wonderful. I think I liked this one a little more, just because it's always been a dream of mine to write. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
Edge of Time Villainous aliens and kids with special powers? Zombies? Toronto burned and destroyed? A fight to save all life on Earth from being wiped out? You bet! Susan McDonald is a wonderful first-time author who will keep you turning pages in a fast-paced race to find out the story's ending. 'Edge of Time' is categorized as young adult science fiction, but as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Eloise She was a daughter, a wife, a mother. She was my friend. But what secrets did Eloise take to her grave? After her best friend Eloise dies from breast cancer, Cathy is devastated. But then Cathy begins to have disturbing dreams that imply Eloise's death was not all it seems. Fade into You I like this so far I thought Max was hot and Olivia is likable. The relationship had great buildup, the anticipation factor was there, and that's my favorite part! The sex scenes were delicious. I am really glad though that this is just part one because I feel like my knowledge of the characters is still just on a superficial level, especially Max. Hopefully, the wait won't be long for part two because I feel like I just stopped reading in the middle of a book!
Fade Into Me Just when I thought this story between Max and Olivia couldn't get more interesting I was wrong! Max is fantastic and I love that the author doesn't make him a cliche Hollywood ass but lets him be just a normal guy who is interested in a girl! Great story!! Can't wait for the final installment!!
Fade into Always FADE INTO ALWAYS is the third and final novella in Kate Dawes' Fade trilogy. And once again, the storyline continues as the same spot where Fade Into Me left off. There was a major revelation at the end of FIM and our heroine Olivia is so overcome that she is willing to forgo all explanations from the man with whom she is falling in love and jump right into bed. At this point, I digress, because the information revealed ( in the previous storyline) would have put most women off sex with the knowledge that their current love has some major damage control on the horizon.
Finnikin of the Rock The characters were amazing. Finnikin was smart and an interesting person to read about. Evanjalin was also very interesting. I liked the relationship that builds between them and how they weren't best friends forever in five pages. That their relationship took most of the book to fully work out. The plot has it's slow spots, but overall is a compelling and entertaining. I kept on looking at the map at the beginning of the book and trying to figure out, where in the blazes they were at times. The world of Skuldendore was original. The writing was phenomenal. I seriously wasn't sure if Marchetta would be able to write fantasy, but she was and it was amazing. I recommend this book to those that love fantasy and those that don't. You will not be disappointed.
Folk Tales From Africa: The Baboons Who Went This Way And That A man with a tree growing out of his head? A woman with children made of wax? A bird that can be milked? With more stories from his original celebration of African folktales, "The Girl Who Married A Lion", let Alexander McCall Smith once again take you to a land where the bizarre is everyday and magic is real.

Ashfall Al in all, this book gave me chills, and it kept me up into the wee hours of the night as I absorbed every word. I couldn't help falling in love with Alex and Darla and cannot wait to read more of their story because this disaster is way too big for just one book. As much as I hate seeing the situations that Alex has thrust upon him, I can't wait to see what Mullin has in store for him next, especially since this is the start of a new and very uncertain future. This is an incredibly realistic, poignant and mesmerizing read. It should top everyone's reading list.
Bewere the Night "The Coldest Game" was one of the most ridiculous pieces of short fiction I have read in a very long time. Some pieces are borderline-incomprehensible. Some are overwritten. Some are simply not interesting whatsoever. As well, there is an uncomfortable amount of typos in the book. Nearly every story contains one, generally some sort of punctuation error that is probably not the writers' faults.
Bones Are Forever Detective Andrew Ryan was involved in the investigation of the deaths of four infants, along with a Royal Canadian Mountie that Tempe had a brief affair with when they were both at the FBI training facility, Quantico. But, there was no real connection between Tempe and Dr. Ryan, and very few words of a personal nature between them. Additionally, Tempe barely acted in a civil manner toward Mountie Ollie Hasty.
Born in Flames Do you have books in your collection that you hold onto because you want to read them again, or want to share with your kids, or can't wait for the next in the series? Of course you do. So do I, and this one is all three for me. Rory is everything a heroine should be: uncertain of her place in the world, looking for more in life, ready to embrace her journey, strong enough to battle evil but soft enough to accept help where it's offered-often from her leading man, but also from a great supporting cast of characters. Fenn makes a great hero: he's strong, loyal, but has his faults. And when he can't be there for her, there are the others. What a great supporting cast Knoebel wrote into her debut novel. She has woven a wonderful tale with interesting lore, a fresh take on medieval creatures, and rich and entertaining characters. My biggest complaint is that I can't immediately read book two.
Clade CLADE is set 50 years after a catastrophic ecological collapse, the 'ecocaust', a human-caused massextinction right up there with the five worst in Earth's history. Civilization was saved by heavy-handed reengineering of the biosphere, but at a cost of billions of lives lost, and a tightly-regimented social setup. Budz does a nice job of worldbuilding in CLADE, and handles the ambiguous costs and benefits of new technology very well indeed.

Anno Dracula Newman packs "Anno Dracula" with action, unlike other "alternate vampire histories" (granted, a limited genre) like Brian Stableford's "Empire of Fear." Beauregard's prowess with a sword is easy to grasp, but Genevieve, an "elder" vampire even more ancient and powerful than Dracula, has powers far beyond the grasp of even other vampires. And even Genevieve meets a vampire that she cannot fend off for long, a Chinese horror sure to give more than a few readers nightmares.
Arena Two This was a great follow-up to Arena One. Thank you Morgan Rice!!! The author does a great job of reeling you back into the story line and you have not choice but to keep reading the book to see what is going to happen to Brooke and the people she was meant to protect. Can't wait for book 3 in the Survival Series.

Tomatoland: How Modern Industrial Agriculture Destroyed Our Most Alluring Fruit English | 2011 | 240 Pages | ISBN: 1449401090 | PDF | 3 MB Supermarket produce sections bulging with a year-round supply of perfectly round, bright red-orange tomatoes have become all but a national birthright. But in Tomatoland, which is based on his James Beard Award-winning article, "The Price of Tomatoes," investigative food journalist Barry Estabrook reveals the huge human and environmental cost of the $5 billion fresh tomato industry. Fields are sprayed with more than one hundred different herbicides and pesticides. Tomatoes are picked hard and green and artificially gassed until their skins acquire a marketable hue. Modern plant breeding has tripled yields, but has also produced fruits with dramatically reduced amounts of calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin C, and tomatoes that have fourteen times more sodium than the tomatoes our parents enjoyed. The relentless drive for low costs has fostered a thriving modern-day slave trade in the United States. How have we come to this point? Estabrook traces the supermarket tomato from its birthplace in the deserts of Peru to the impoverished town of Immokalee, Florida, a.k.a. the tomato capital of the United States. He visits the laboratories of seedsmen trying to develop varieties that can withstand the rigors of agribusiness and still taste like a garden tomato, and then moves on to commercial growers who operate on tens of thousands of acres, and eventually to a hillside field in Pennsylvania, where he meets an obsessed farmer who produces delectable tomatoes for the nation's top restaurants. Throughout Tomatoland, Estabrook presents a who's who cast of characters in the tomato industry: the avuncular octogenarian whose conglomerate grows one out of every eight tomatoes eaten in the United States; the ex-Marine who heads the group that dictates the size, color, and shape of every tomato shipped out of Florida; the U.S. attorney who has doggedly prosecuted human traffickers for the past decade; and the Guatemalan peasant who came north to earn money for his parents' medical bills and found himself enslaved for two years. Tomatoland reads like a suspenseful whodunit as well as an expose of today's agribusiness systems and the price we pay as a society when we take taste and thought out of our food purchases.

The Female Eunuch Published: 2008-10-14 | ISBN: 006157953X | PDF | 432 pages | 3 MB The publication of Germaine Greer's The Female Eunuch in 1970 was a landmark event, raising eyebrows and ire while creating a shock wave of recognition in women around the world with its steadfast assertion that sexual liberation is the key to women's liberation. Today, Greer's searing examination of the oppression of women in contemporary society is both an important historical record of where we've been and a shockingly relevant treatise on what still remains to be achieved.
Forgive for Love: The Missing Ingredient for a Healthy and Lasting Relationship Published: 2009-01-27 | ISBN: 0061234958 | PDF | 240 pages | 3 MB Finding the love of your life and holding onto that relationship is more difficult than ever. The problem hasn't gone unnoticed. From relationship therapists to speed-dating, self-help books to online matchmaking, an entire industry has developed to help us navigate the bumpy road of relationships. Yet in spite of the availability of all these resources, many of us still struggle to discover and keep the
love of our lives. That is, until now. This groundbreaking book from the frontiers of psychology offers startling new research about the one missing factor that is vital to relationships—forgiveness. A national bestselling author and leading expert on forgiveness, Dr. Fred Luskin shows that no matter how much two people may love each other, their relationship will not succeed unless they practice forgiveness—an approach that most relationship experts continue to ignore. Why is forgiveness an essential tool for relationships? Studies reveal that 70 percent for what we argue about at the beginning of our relationships will never be fully resolved. In other words, our basic needs and behaviors don't change over time. The issues are endless: the socks that always end up on the floor, how often to have sex, the ESPN obsession, working hours, and, of course, friends and family. Without forgiveness, these issues, however big or small, too easily turn into relationshiperoding grudges. Forgive for Love is the solution for your relationship woes, providing the tools you need to find and hold onto the love of your life. Dr. Luskin delivers a proven seven-step program for creating and maintaining loving and lasting relationships, teaching easy-to-learn forgiveness skills that will not only resolve immediate conflicts but improve the overall happiness and longevity of your relationships. Simply put: people in healthy relationships figure out how to forgive their partners for being themselves. They do so because it is nearly impossible to change other people and because none of us are perfect. Forgiveness is the key, and Forgive for Love has the answers.

After the Reich 2007 | ISBN-10: 0465003370 | PDF | 656 pages | 6 MB When the Third Reich collapsed in 1945, the Allied powers converged on Germany and divided it into four zones of occupation. A nation in tatters, in many places literally flattened by bombs, was suddenly subjected to brutal occupation by vengeful victors. Rape was rampant. Hundreds of thousands of Germans and German-speakers died in the course of brutal deportations from Eastern
Europe. By the end of the year, Germany was literally starving to death. Over a million German prisoners of war died in captivity, where they were subjected to inadequate rations and often tortured. All told, an astounding 2.25 million German civilians died violent deaths in the period between the liberation of Vienna and the Berlin airlift. A shocking account of a massive and vicious military occupation, After the Reich offers a bold reframing of the history of World War II and its aftermath. Historian Giles MacDonogh has unearthed a record of brutality which has been largely ignored by historians or, worse, justified as legitimate retaliation for the horror of the Holocaust. Drawing on a vast array of contemporary firstperson accounts, MacDonogh has finally given a voice to tens of millions of civilians who, lucky to survive the war, found themselves struggling to survive a hellish peace.

In Search of British Heroes (Audiobook) English | ISBN: 1405034297 | 2003 | Audio CD in MP3/Variable | 258 MB In Search of British Heroes is the story of five legends of British history – Boudicca, Robin Hood, Macbeth, King Harold and William Wallace. All five of them can be said, by their lives and deaths, to have changed our country forever. Not because they were hugely successful, in fact, all but one died a failure, but because, even in their lifetimes, they were seen as symbolising something greater than themselves. This is the stuff of which true legends are made. They lived during some of the most important periods of our history and at times of great change: the Roman occupation, the Saxon period at the time of the Viking raids and settlements, pre-Norman Britain and, finally, the high medieval age of chivalry, and the Scottish struggle for independence. The five stories cover 1200 years of history and the length and breadth of Britain. About the Author Tony Robinson is already well-known as Time Team’s front man, and as the author of Archaeology is Rubbish. This book will carry Tony’s distinctive and enthralling mode of expression, making it both original and enlightening.

After downloading the file(s), you will find that most are saved in ZIP format or in .RAR format, if you do not have the program to open these .RAR files on your computer (eg; Winzip.com) here are two programs you can get for FREE: http://www.jzip.com/ or http://peazip.sourceforge.net/index.html
Here is a great program that the members found..... 'Calibre' will convert mobi to pdf, it will convert epub to pdf or mobi, or pdf to epub or mobi. You can use this program to convert to whatever you ereader format you need. Best of all, it's FREE!!!! http://calibre-ebook.com/download_windows In case you don't want to download Calibre. This online (no need to download) program does the same job and it's really easy to use when you want to convert MOBI and ePUB files: http://ebook.onlineconvert.com/convert-to-pdf Open .epub files on your PC! If you find an epub file and would like to open and read it on your computer, then use the firefox browser and simply download the following add on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/ Once you have done this, you can read all those extra books that are only in epub format... easy! Note: Program to open comics (.cbr files) If you would like to read the comics you will need to open .cbr files. The is a free program that will allow you to read them. Go to http://comical.sourceforge.net/ and download the program (links are in the bottom right panel). Save the program to your computer, then, once downloaded, double click on it and install the program Note for Movie Downloaders: Some movies, after downloading, will not play on 'Windows Media Player' (for example, you can hear sound but no video!), so we suggest that you download an extra player like 'Gom Media Player' (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html) or 'Real Player/ (http://www.real.com/realplayer). Both are free to use!. Once you have downloaded the movie, simply 'right click' on the movie file and 'open with' the player of your choice Extra Note for .MKV Movie Files: If you find a movie in .MKV format where GOM Player will play the movie but has no soundtrack, try a different FREE .MKV player, like this one: http://mkv-player.en.softonic.com/download
Zipped files are easy to open. Simply click on the book links, taking you directly to the download page. Click on the 'Free User' button (each host is a little different, but all offer free download, you just have to wait a few seconds!), click the download button and your book will start to download. Once fully downloaded, your computer will ask you if you want to OPEN or SAVE the file. We suggest that you first SAVE the file to a place on your computer, eg; My Documents. Once you have done this, you can easily find the file, and by clicking on it, it will open. You will then see all the smaller files inside. You can either select all of these at once (click on the top one, then hold down your SHIFT key while you click on the bottom one, then click EXTRACT. It will then ask you where to save the files to (we suggest My Documents for now unless you have already created a new folder and place you would like to keep them). The programme will then save the files. If you prefer, You can also OPEN the file straight away. It will then start to gradually load the file. Once it is ready (100% loaded), you can then click OPEN again, and you will see all the smaller files in the box. Select one or ALL of these files, and click the 'EXTRACT TO' link. You will then be given a choice of places you can save the UNZIPPED files.
