White Cargo This was an outstanding book. A computer tycoon becomes a victim of piracy in the South American waters. He thinks that his wife has been killed as well as his daughter. He recieves a phone call during the night from the daughter that he thought was dead. He embarks on a rescue mission to locate his child in Columbia. The search is exciting as well. He finally joins forces with a female journalist. They trace his daughter to the empire of a drug baron nicknamed the "Anaconda". The computer tycoon uses all of his wits and cunning to free his daughter as well as himself and the female journalist. This book has many twists and turns that will constantly surprise the reader. It is hard to put this book down. It took me no time to read it. Buy this book. You will not be dissapointed.
Without Mercy Without Mercy really packs the punches and the adrenaline rush. I am a big fan of Lisa Jackson's and have read almost all of her books. I have to admit that it has been a little while since I have enjoyed myself reading one of her books, until now. The ending for this book leaves much to be desired. I know it is intentional as there will be a follow up book. I just finished this one and already am impatient for the next one. Julies is a fighter. She is the best big sister anyone could ask for. Shay turned out to be a huge surprise. I don't want to get on her bad side. Without Mercy will make you scream mercy for more!
Worst Fears Realized In spite of the intrigue, sex and violence, I was never as engaged by this novel as by the many other Stone Barrington sagas. The pacing was somehow off, some of the story lines too unrealistic, and the motivations of Mittledorfer too ambiguous and unexplored. However, even though this novel wasn't the same caliber as other Woods' novels, I'm sure I'll stay tuned for more Barrington episodes.
A Slice of Heaven This book deserves my input, I have read the first book Stealing Home, found it fantastic so I bought this one ,am reading it now and so far it has been an excellent love/hate story. I can't wait to finish this book to see how Dana Sue and Ronnie. finish up. hopefully a new wedding.I have read over 12 of Sherryl Woods books and I have found them all to be excellent reading.
Bloodstream I started reading medical thrillers a few years ago. I started with Michael Crichton, then onto Robin Cook and Michael Palmer. Tess Gerritsen has entered the rankings of a top medical thriller author. I love this book! The rural settings, the characters, and the plot come together for a riveting ride! I highly recommend this book!

Dead To Me A couple of things prevent a five star review for me, one of which is that the book seemed to lack a certain cohesion. The events just seemed strung together rather than leading up to any particular confrontation. Also, the big bad didn't seem developed enough to me. We get righteous indignation from the hero about his deeds, but until the end it's much more tell than show and to me mostly came off as prejudice on the hero's part rather than actual villainy. As a side note that is probably a character choice, but still bothered me, was the fact that the main character comes off as ridiculously self righteous at times. On the plus side, he realizes it and he's young so maybe he'll grow out of it. Still, good for a first novel.
Deader Still Deader Still is unique from a lot of the urban fantasy genre. It pokes fun at the bureaucratic red tape of the government for example, how many forms Simon has to fill out from Supply and how long will it take to get the item once it has been requested. Since book two ends in a sort of cliff hanger, I look forward to the third book and seriously hope that the publishing company changes its mind and readers do not have to wait another year before it comes out. But then again, good things come to those who wait. This is a fantastic series, and I think it has a lot of promise. Just be sure that if you are going to read this book, that you have read Dead to Me first. I highly recommend that you go and get both books!
Dead Matter Dead Matter introduces us to a creative take on vampires and I really enjoyed their addition to the story. The conflict resolution around their existence in the end seemed a bit too easy for me, but it didn't damper my enjoyment of the story. Actually, it may have piqued my curious a bit because now I am curious to see where Mr. Strout takes this new group of characters and how they will fit in later. Lastly, on a purely selfish note, I was relieved to have less Jane in this book. I am not fond of her and she is one of those characters I love to dislike for completely unfounded reasons. She is otherwise occupied throughout the story and I can't say I missed her. Overall, Dead Matter starts off with a bang and keeps a fast pace all the way to the end. It is filled with funny lines, dangerous situations, and high action suspense all of which combined to keep me up far past my bed time.
Dreams in the Key of Blue The pace is positively breakneck as the killer plays cat and mouse with Lucas and intends to make him the final victim. This is a fascinating, intelligent glimpse into psychopathy written by a former forensic psychologist and profiler who obviously knows his subject well. The writing is top-notch and the sheer suspense will keep you turning pages all the way to the stunning conclusion.
Forbidden If you like romance, adventure, and a story that has a soul this one is for you. The maincharacters Kayla and Cal are deeply attracted to each other at first site but upon learning that Kayla is his presumed dead brother's fiance she becomes "forbidden." Throughout the rest of the novel the characters struggle to discover whether Cal's brother is really dead or not, and if family loyalty is worth the sacrifice of true love. I really enjoyed this book and I felt empathy for the dilemma Carl had to come to terms with. Where is the line drawn between the happiness of a family member and the self? I also like how Liam, the brother, is portrayed as someone worthy of love too, it makes his brother's devotion all the more believable. Read the book and find out!

Fragile Eternity FE brings us back to Huntsdale, where we get to peek in on Keenen, Aislinn, Donia and Seth. The character development doesn't disappoint in this book, however it felt like some parts were a bit too drawn out. Several other reviews stated a feeling of telling more than actual showing, and I must agree. However, this is still worth the read. Not as fast as the first and second book, Fragile Eternity still had its memorable moments.
Into the Storm: Troubleshooters This is sweet and studly SEAL petty officer Mark Jenkins story. He's a very likable character because, hey, sweet and studly. After a night of passion spent with Lindsey Fontaine from Troubleshooters, some miscommunication and some harsh words, the pair find themselves working together on what is supposed to be a training op. A harsh winter storm in New Hampshire complicates the exercise, and then a team member vanishes into the wilderness, throwing the other team members into the dangerous elements. Some other great characters and their stories include past players, Sophia, Dave and Decker in an on-going drama. New to the scene is Tracy Shapiro, who I kind of hated in the beginning, but she grew on me. Izzy Zanella has been a member of the SEAL team but has never really been fleshed out before this. He's a hoot and I hope he gets his own story. INTO THE STORM also has a very creepy serial killer in the mix, which ratchets up the suspense. The Troubleshooter series does not disappoint.
Night Huntress Overall, though, "Night Huntress" is a solid addition to the series, and even better than the previous entry (which also suffered from "middle-of-the-series" syndrome), and if you've stuck with it this far, I'm fairly confident you won't be disappointed. Chase-shippers may be disappointed with the character development (derailment?) that occurs for him in this novel, and the resolution may stick a little as a bit of a Family Unfriendly Aesop, but the overall plot is excellent and will keep you coming back for more.
Now You See Her Marcy Taggart has been hit with an emotional wallop, but she has not fallen. First her daughter was killed in a canoeing accident two years ago. The body was never found, so Marcy has never truly accepted her daughter's death. Her husband has moved on and left her for another woman. At fifty, Marcy is taking a tour of Ireland that was meant to be a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary trip. During a break at a pub, Marcy thinks she sees her daughter Devon walk past. Could her daughter still be alive and hiding out in Ireland to make a new start?
On the Prowl: Tales of an Urban Werewolf Pardon the pun, but I wolfed this book down over the course of two nights because I was so interested in the story it was hard to put it down. Sophie's back and feeling great now that landing the Southeast Airlines account has made her partner and gotten her the corner office she always craved. But her new top client seems to be keeping a few hot secrets from her while he tries to win his way into her pantyhose.Which may not be such a bad idea as the relationship between her and Heath seems to be waning just when she thought he was going to propose. Tom, the Alpha werewolf is back in town- not only to complicate her life but also to pull her from the fire again as the Houston pack demands her presence and forcibly employs her talents. Not her auditing skills. With a mini-troop of made werewolves padding along after her and every magical creature in Austin popping up in her apartment Sophie's in for a very hectic Valentine's day.

Rogue: Shifters Faythe Sanders is back, working hard to prove herself as the first female Enforcer for the South Central Pride. Teamed up with her one-time fiance and current lover, Marc, she's got a lot to do to show her father she's worthy of his pride and support. But when strays start showing up dead Faythe's skills are put to the test. When one of their own joins the strays in the after-life the mystery
begins to deepen even as it starts to unravel. The killer smells like a jungle cat and 'more'. So who is this rogue and how the the missing strippers, who all bear a striking resemblence to Faythe herself, tie into this plot?
Ruined Moving away from her friends would have been bad enough but Aunt Claudia's damp, strange, shotgun style house is stuffed to the rafters with Voodoo talismans, monkey skulls, Buddha statues and the like. Topping that off she's also been enrolled in a snooty, upper-crust, school where friends are few and far between. Upon spying several of the popular kids sneaking into a nearby cemetery late one night she follows to see what they're up to. After nearly being caught eves dropping on the partying teenagers she runs into Lisette who helps her escape unseen.
Silver Borne Briggs' writing is tight. She really gets a reader invested in the characters, and the story builds upon that. Familiar characters appear, but she resists throwing in a cameo for everyone we know. If they didn't have some say in the plot, they didn't appear. So, we get Zee and Bran, but Stefan is a no show. Though the fae plot was interesting, the strongest part of the book is the werewolf material. Adam's pack is a little dysfunctional, and it puts Mercy in some tight spots where intelligence and intuition give her the edge. She's no match physically for any of the weres, but she shows her mettle never-the-less. It was very satisfying, and leaves room for more development and plotlines in future books. The "mystery" was rather simple, and quickly resolved, but I think the character relationships were the main focus here, and on that level the book succeeded brilliantly. Overall, another excellent installment.
Still Life Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall? Unfortunately for wealthy, beautiful and happily married Casey Marshall she has become that proverbial fly. After being hit by a van at 50 mph and breaking nearly every bone in her body she is left in a coma. The police suspect foul play and since this is Joy Fielding of course there's foul play. Casey cannot move her body and cannot open her eyes. Imagine how terrifying that must be. Trapped! But Casey can hear. She can hear everything. Her two best friends, her troubled younger sister, and her adoring husband come in and out of her hospital room for months. Conversations, arguments and confessions are open for Casey's ears. Between visits, Casey spends her time remembering childhood moments with her dysfunctional family and many nannies, as well as, how she met her best friends and her husband. The stories are both touching and sad. As Casey struggles to open her eyes and make contact with the world the attempted killer becomes clear to the reader. I was shocked by the revelation. The suspense in this book is sometimes too much. I was literally on the edge of my seat. I wanted to scream "Wake up now!" The ending was a little disappointing. I wanted more of a confrontation between the attempted killer and victim. Overall, loved it! Great suspense.
The Wild Zone Without spoiling the plot, this is about all I can say, except that the plot was suspenseful and totally captivated my attention the characters were realistic, vulnerable, and flawed. How the puzzle finally fits together was surprising to me, although there were certainly clues along the way. I enjoyed The Wild Zone: A Novel, but it's not my favorite by this author, which is why I'm giving this one four stars.

Wolfsbane and Mistletoe My primary interest was in the Harris, Green, Vaughn, Briggs & Chance stories. All these stories are set in the authors' most famous universes (I consider that Nightside for Simon R. Green), the Harris story has Sookie in it, & the Vaughn story has Kitty in it. The Harris, Green, & Chance stories were minor, but fun. The Vaughn & Briggs ones are whole novellas, & really good. Special credit goes to Nancy Pickard for unusual idea (Santa as a vampire), but the true WTF award goes to the unknown J.A. Konrath, for a decently-written story involving evil Santas, gun-toting Satan-worshipping Salvation Army minions, the lost (biblical) book of Bob, a were-anon group, a hippo, & many other interesting characteristics. Trust me, go read it, it's the most interesting unusual story I've read this year.
Against the Wind Writing a western romance is more than just knowing the lay of the land or the history it is grabbing the flavor for the people and surroundings. Kat Martin has completed captured that with Sarah and Jackson's story in showcasing these two people and the lives they lead in a part of the country that has its own pace and feel to life. This story brings romance, suspense and the most wonderful feeling that reminds us we are all suckers for romantic ending.
Against the Fire Love this 2nd book in the series it was captivating, thrilling, scary and romantic which is a great combination. You really see so many suspects and no one that fits the criminal profile so when it all comes together you as the reader are completely shocked which is just as it should be. The back story with Mattie's friend is so sweet and having Gabe's brothers involved make it all the more wellrounded. Thanks to Kat Martin for a knock down great book.
Against the Law The third Raines of Wind Canyon romantic suspense thriller (see Against the Fire and Against the Wind) is a terrific tense tale filled with twists and spins as nothing goes according to Raines' plan. He, like his older brothers, is a strong hero, but has met his equal in Lark who fearlessly stomps on snakes. Timely with the plight of young females being sold, readers will root for the pair to rescue her niece as we fear what has happened to that little girl.
Angelfire Surprisingly, there wasn't a huge cliffhanger but there is definitely room for much more to take place. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and look forward to reading something by Ms. Moulton again in the future, hopefully tied in with Angelfire. I liked the Angel/ Demon mythology/lore and found it fascinating. Again, I'm looking forward to reading more of Ms. Moultons work.

Arrows of Fury Here our lead character Marcus (still in hiding from the Emperor) is given a bunch of Syrian archers to turn into foot soldiers before their inexperience gets them (and their Roman colleagues) slaughtered. A lot of modern thrillers and action novels paint some from the Middle East as potential bad guys, here the author presents the Syrian as cultured, noble and skilled and that made a refreshing change I have to say. So we have Marcus, the Legions (along with their new archers) fighting the barbarians (mainly us - the British!) on and about Hadrian's Wall.
Blood and Ice Michael and crew bring the bodies up and wait for them to thaw out, but they disappear and a couple of the crew are murdered. Who did it? This the survivors need to know. Plus, where are the dead from the deep? These questions will grip you as the book moves between time and place, telling us both Sinclair and Eleanor's story and Michael's as well. There is horror afoot in Antarctica, but it didn't originate there. This is a story peopled with characters easy to identify with. It's moody, frightening, gripping and spellbinding.
A Plague of Poison He's distracted from thinking about his choices, however, when a rash of poisonings plague Lincoln, with several deaths both in castle and town, apparently through honey laced with a deadly herb that lead to a quick and violent death. Near-panic begins to take the townsfolk, with people suspicious of everyone around them. Lady Nicolaa places the castle cooks under orders to serve only plain, unspiced foods, and charges Bascot with finding the vile murderer. His first task is to determine the motive of the killer, and to do that, he must try to figure out if the actual victims were the intended victims.
Blind Faith I go through about 5 novels a week, which is quite a bit. I couldn't put this book down! I was anxious to get back to it when I needed a break. It was quite different from anything else I've read this year, and i'm going to make sure I read some more of his books. Good find!
My Soul to Lose I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like this. I thought it might be too much of a teen book with the girls hanging out at the mall but it did get interesting pretty quick. Waking up in the psych ward, and why the main character was sent there is a little freaky. The way it ended left me curious to know more as if I had just read the first couple of chapters of a book then lost the book. I liked it in the end and I'd say it is worth a read.

My Soul to Take I'd heard this was a good book, but didn't expect it to make me cry. Too personal to share why here, but it just goes to show that the most powerful fiction is that which strongly resembles real life. However, once 100 pages had gone and the story became more paranormal, I was fine. I could distance myself from it, and should be able to read the following novels in the series tear-free.
The Confessor Gabriel uncovers evidence that Stern had gone to Italy while in the process of researching a book that he (Stern) was writing. As the novel progresses, Gabriel investigates and unearths a conspiracy in the Catholic Church. Like all other Silva novels, The Confessor has a healthy dose of breathless chase scenes, exotic European locales, and multiple assumed identities. The Confessor will be enjoyed by all fans of Silva's earlier work, and those with an interest in international intrigue.
The Deadhouse In The Deadhouse, Linda Fairstein not only tells a good tale, she unearths a fascinating corner of New York history. I didn't think anything could distract me in this moment of national tragedy, but this book did. Fairstein captures the complexity of one of America's greatest cities from both a modern and historical perspective. Her writing is brisk, her characters appealing, and the story is terrific. I couldn't put it down. Though a mystery fan, I'm new to the Alex Cooper series.
The Bone Vault As always Fairstein intersperses other cases that the Sex Unit of the District Attorney's office is investigating. There is also some interesting, but very subtle movement in the relationship between Alex and Mike. Although books rarely cause me to cry, Alex's recounting of the events of September 11 from her viewpoint as well as from Mike's brought tears to my eyes. It's a beautiful and heartrending account that has nothing to do with the story, but fits in beautifully with the novel. It is also a story that I imagine the author had to tell. "The Bone Vault" is a wonderful book that is available this month. Highly recommended for all who enjoy a great story, fully realized characters and fine writing.
Sea of Ghosts Mr. Campbell combines the epic and political and wraps the entire thing up in a delightfully bitter little pill. In Sea of Ghosts, he's created a sinister, time-sensitive setting and populated it with mysterious, amoral characters. This isn't a book that follows the cut-and-dried traditions of epic fantasy, but it does still possess that school's devotion to a dramatic storyline and wild action. It is easy to draw comparisons between this work and that of other, highly-regarded authors, but, in truth, Mr. Campbell's book is completely his own and he should be immensely proud of it.

Prince of Fire All of Silva's characters are well drawn, but Gabriel Allon is in a class by himself. He has suffered great personal losses from which he can never completely recover. Although he has repeatedly hunted down and slaughtered the enemies of his people, Gabriel remains a compassionate man who values human life. In this book, he is confronted with a terrifying moral dilemma, and one particular scene in which he must make a split-second, life or death decision is simply electrifying. "Prince of Fire" proves, once again, that Daniel Silva has mastered the art of writing espionage thrillers with intelligence, depth, and heart.
Offer of Proof With is first novel, Heilbrun catapults himself to the top tier of legal thriller writers. It tells the story of a beautiful executive that is robbed and murdered, and with her dying breath identifies her murderer. Or does she? Heilbrun writes in a style that keeps you riveted to the page to find out what happens next, provides interesting characters especially his hero, public defender Arch Gold, and offers a plot that will keep you guessing right till the very end. When Heilbun is ready for Arch Gold to handle his next case , I'll be right there with him!
The English Assassin Once you have entered the journey of the former Israeli agent turned art restorer and you have encountered the violence and mysteries which surround what should have been a simple trip to look at some art in need of repair, I think you will be as hooked as I was. The larger tale of what happened to Jewish and other goods during the Nazi era will also set you thinking and will put a human face to the stories several years ago of Swiss bank accounts and secrecy about the Second World War period. This is a fascinating book and fully up to Silva's standards.
The King of Plagues: A Joe Ledger Novel In "the King of Plagues" you will meet new friends and adversaries and sometimes wonder which is which. Some are actually both at the same time. I won't offer up any spoilers but we will see some familiar faces in the enemy camp and discover that one of those to be much more interesting than previously thought. The legendary Aunt Sallie finally appears, after being discussed in both previous books, and turns out to be hell on wheels. I also enjoyed the idea of "the Seven Kings" as a secret society that manipulates events from the shadows. The way that they hijacked myth and legend to inspire fear and awe was brilliant. Every hero needs a worthy adversary to test their metal and in the Seven Kings, Ledger meets his match. From beginning to end it is a non-stop full throttle thrill ride that doesn't slow down until the last period.
The Knitting Diaries I have read all the Blossom Street books by Ms. Macomber and thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of those novels. While there is some catching up of who is who from previous books, it's not overwhelming and I enjoyed getting to know Anne Marie a bit better. Both Susan Mallery and Christina Skype are new authors for me and enjoyed discovering authors similar in writing style and subject matter to Debbie Macomber. None of these stories are heavy literature, but are perfect when in the mood for something on the lighter side or when needing to read something that you can pick up and set back down. No complicated stories, no deep character development, no high drama, but just an easy, comfortable book that allows you to sit back and relax when in the mood for this type of read.

The Legions of Fire The key to this sort of historical fantasy is how wonderfully David Drake captures the essence of the patrician nobility of Rome, which brings freshness to the quest. The quartet of heroes is fully developed with different skills, knowledge and attitudes. Corylus brings military strategic experience to the mix Alphena possesses combat skills Hedia is brilliant though volatile and Varus has a connection to the beyond. Together they may save the realm separately they have no chance as the Legion of Fire is an enjoyable first tale.
The Marching Season Although Silva continues to be spare with his information on Jean Paul Delaroche, he provides just enough material to keep the reader plunging along in headlong pursuit of the final denouement. This is what makes October so interesting and ultimatley almost sympathetic. For throughout the international chases, October is a man who maintains his own sense of values and morality. Michael Osbourne may not agree with October's view of the world or himself, but ultimately, the respect, while grudging begins to grow. How Silva brings this all about is what makes this an exceptional spy novel. If you have not discovered Daniel Silva, you are in for a real treat. Start with THE UNLIKELY SPY and then read THE MARK OF THE ASSASSIN, followed by THE MARCHING SEASON. Only the last two
are directly related but, if you read them in the order I have listed, you will get to follow Silva's rapid development as a writer and see his promotion into the ranks of spy-thriller masters. I recommend these books unreservedly to all fans of well-crafted spy fiction. Read them and you too, will be telling your friends about Daniel Silva.
The Rescue: A True Story of Courage and Survival in World War II I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It makes what we see on shows like "Survivor" trivial trash. That said I offer the following comment in the spirit of constructive criticism. More care should have been taken in research and/or being critically reviewed by a knowledgeable individual. The text (pg 284) mentions the Japanese carrier Zuikaku as being sunk in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Try getting sunk off Cape Engano later in the year. Also stated (pg 283) was the Shokaku as being "the last remaining from the fleet that had struck Pearl Harbor." The Zuikaku was. Incorrect also (pg 288) is the claim that two escort carriers were sunk by naval gunfire off Samar. I believe only the Gambier Bay was sunk in that manner. U.S.S St Lo went down due to a kamikaze strike. I am only a casual reader of history and found these errors. Anyone who puts out a book on historical events should take rigorous action to ensure accuracy. I seem to be finding more and more books coming out with errors which distract from the holy grail of historical fact.
Driftwood Cottage It was a story just waitng to happen after the last Chesapeake Shores book. Even though the pace was slow, that's the way some of us work through our own resevations & challenges so this
installment was was more like a nice, quiet convervation instead of an edge of your seat thriller. But the lively reappearance of familiar characters who are clearly enjoying the everyday pleasures of "happily ever after" made Driftwood Cottage a good visit that left me smiling and relaxed...just like you might feel after sitting in the breeze off the Chesapeake. I'm looking forward to the next visit!
Elisha's Bones Fans of Dan Brown's DaVinci Code will definitely love this book. It has all the fast paced intrique without the controversy that Brown's book brought to it. However it is quite thought provoking as this college professor leaves his quiet life behind to traverse the world to find the bones of Elisha. The trip is financed by a man who has a limitless amount of money, but not a limitless amount of time because he is dying. His willingness to finance this college professor's search means many Indiana Jones type adventures around the world. However, Hoesel does a great job of keeping this realistic and not hokey sounding at all.

Fly By Wire This book is a good read and will be understood better by people that know about planes and can understand the horrible conclusion of the plane's demise. I really enjoyed the author's previous books: The Perfect Assassin and Stealing Trinity, but, had a bit of a hard time with this one. But, on the other hand, this author is a wonderful storyteller and knows how to grab and hold his reading audience. I
recommend this book to thriller readers that like a true tale of something that could definitely happen. So enjoy the book and look forward to Mr. Larsen's next one.
Moscow Rules Silva keeps the action moving briskly, and his ability to convey the atmosphere of disparate locations adds depth and drama to the plot. The characters, even the minor ones, are paradigms of the countries they represent, imbued with the cultures of their homelands, rather than mere stereotypes. His major characters are complex and carefully drawn, and the action and underlying themes of the novel are intelligent and thought-provoking. As always, Silva creates a complex and exciting story, but this time the focus is on contemporary politics, rather than on the past. Providing evidence that future catastrophes are shockingly easy to inspire, given the venal nature of unscrupulous international arms dealers, Silva employs his formidable talents to create a terrifying picture of a cynical world and a warning for the future.

On Becoming a Novelist English | 1983 | ISBN: 0060149566 | 150 pages | PDF | 4 MB Picture the poor, young, serious-fiction writer. He toils alone at a pace not so different from that of Lincoln Tunnel traffic at rush hour in New York. His spouse has a "real" job, or perhaps he has a trust fund. His college friends are cashing in on their dot-coms and wondering if he's ever going to join the real world. He is not hell-bent on publication; he is trying to write "serious, honest fiction, the kind of
novel that readers will find they enjoy reading more than once, the kind of fiction likely to survive." He's likely to have no idea whether he's succeeding. Nobody understands him. Well, almost nobody. John Gardner understands him. Gardner's sympathetic On Becoming a Novelist is the novelist's ultimate comfort food--better than macaroni and cheese, better than chocolate. Gardner, a fiction writer himself (Grendel), knows in his bones the desperate questioning of a writer who's not sure he's up to the task. He recognizes the validation that comes with being published, just as he believes that "for a true novel there is generally no substitute for slow, slow baking." Gardner also has strong feelings about what kinds of workshops help (and whom they help), and what kinds hinder. But a full half of Gardner's book is devoted to an exploration of the writer's nature. The storyteller's intelligence, he says, "is composed of several qualities, most of which, in normal people, are signs of either immaturity or incivility." In addition, a writer needs "verbal sensitivity, accuracy of eye," and "an almost demonic compulsiveness." But wait--there's more. A writer needs to be driven, and to be driven, he says insightfully, "a psychological wound is helpful." --Jane Steinberg
Ten Stupid Things Men Do to Mess Up Their Lives English | 1997 | ISBN: 0060173084, 0060929448 | 320 pages | PDF | 11 MB Everything will be okay ... once you admit that Dr. Laura's always right. This companion volume to the radio advice factory's 1994 bestseller (which tackled the stupid things women do) serves up plenty of the no-nonsense, old-fashioned morality that her legions of listeners love. Brutally reductive--but not necessarily wrong--this book chalks up men's problems to trying to save "damsels in distress," refusing to admit to a healthy dependence on others, climbing the career ladder to the detriment of your relationships, denying the duty and pleasure of child-rearing, and many others. Whatever your personal reaction to her brassy, unapologetic style, Dr. Schlessinger is a refreshing antidote to the wishy-washy "everything's relative and everyone's different" trend that held sway for a time. Ten Stupid Things Men Do to Mess up Their Lives contains a lot of good advice--even though it has as much in common with instant soup mix as with therapy.

Instructions for Downloading Using The Host's Free Service If you want to download items but would rather not purchase the host's premium service, they do offer a free download option (generally advertised as 'slow' download), click that link on their site and follow the instructions
Instructions for reading .mobi (Kindle etc) files on your PC To download and open .mobi book files and read them on your PC follow these instructions: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=dig_arl_box?ie=UTF8&docId=1000425503
Instructions for Opening Files, Once Downloaded
After downloading the file(s), you will find that most are saved in ZIP format or in .RAR format, if you do not have the program to open these .RAR files on your computer (eg; Winzip.com) here are two programs you can get for FREE: http://www.jzip.com/ or http://peazip.sourceforge.net/index.html
Here is a great program that the members found..... 'Calibre' will convert mobi to pdf, it will convert epub to pdf or mobi, or pdf to epub or mobi. You can use this program to convert to whatever you ereader format you need. Best of all, it's FREE!!!! http://calibre-ebook.com/download_windows In case you don't want to download Calibre. This online (no need to download) program does the same job and it's really easy to use when you want to convert MOBI and ePUB files: http://ebook.onlineconvert.com/convert-to-pdf Open .epub files on your PC! If you find an epub file and would like to open and read it on your computer, then use the firefox browser and simply download the following add on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/ Once you have done this, you can read all those extra books that are only in epub format... easy! Note: Program to open comics (.cbr files) If you would like to read the comics you will need to open .cbr files. The is a free program that will allow you to read them. Go to http://comical.sourceforge.net/ and download the program (links are in the bottom right panel). Save the program to your computer, then, once downloaded, double click on it and install the program Note for Movie Downloaders: Some movies, after downloading, will not play on 'Windows Media Player' (for example, you can hear sound but no video!), so we suggest that you download an extra player like 'Gom Media Player' (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html) or 'Real Player/ (http://www.real.com/realplayer). Both are free to use!. Once you have downloaded the movie, simply 'right click' on the movie file and 'open with' the player of your choice Extra Note for .MKV Movie Files:
If you find a movie in .MKV format where GOM Player will play the movie but has no soundtrack, try a different FREE .MKV player, like this one: http://mkv-player.en.softonic.com/download
Zipped files are easy to open. Simply click on the book links, taking you directly to the download page. Click on the 'Free User' button (each host is a little different, but all offer free download, you just have to wait a few seconds!), click the download button and your book will start to download. Once fully downloaded, your computer will ask you if you want to OPEN or SAVE the file. We suggest that you first SAVE the file to a place on your computer, eg; My Documents. Once you have done this, you can easily find the file, and by clicking on it, it will open. You will then see all the smaller files inside. You can either select all of these at once (click on the top one, then hold down your SHIFT key while you click on the bottom one, then click EXTRACT. It will then ask you where to save the files to (we suggest My Documents for now unless you have already created a new folder and place you would like to keep them). The programme will then save the files. If you prefer, You can also OPEN the file straight away. It will then start to gradually load the file. Once it is ready (100% loaded), you can then click OPEN again, and you will see all the smaller files in the box. Select one or ALL of these files, and click the 'EXTRACT TO' link. You will then be given a choice of places you can save the UNZIPPED files.

We are not the 'hosts' of any books etc, neither did we upload them to any hosting provider. We simply search for links to books etc, that are freely available on the web and share our findings with our members, however, IF YOU HAVE A DMCA or ABUSE COMPLAINT about a particular item listed on our pages (eg; if you are the author/publisher!) and would like it removed, please contact the host's 'Filepost' and complete a DMCA notice then the particular download link to your item will become 'innactive'
