ryan Ban.. A very special character. He walks with an attitude but not much to bring attention, but enough for the right eye to notice. Not only did he migrate to this country from Nepal but he has influences from a great culture. He is of average height and has a mildly athletic body type. His style consists of a lot of dark and forestry tones such as black, gray, green and maroon. He has the typical “California surfer” haircut, long and flowy. He sometimes puts it up behind his head in a man bun. He’s a dark skin tone but also has a bright look to him. He is kind of laid back and the one to rarely question a choice of the group. Aryan is someone who is obviously is a person of interest and brings light to different situations. He exemplifies the high school student

that uses music to de-stress. One main source of stress is the two to three hours of homework assigned each night. I asked him what do you want to portray in your music? His response was, “..A new beginning to something old, and a future for something that hasn’t happened”. That there shows the soul and mindful thinking he has at such a young and useful age. As we got to the meeting we both talked for a little before getting into things, you know to lighten the mood. As we are going through the questions this story is unfolding. His life has had, so it seems, the perfect path into music and being zen. From his early age in Nepal, he always was in music. Dances, Plays, concerts, if there was music he had always wanted to go. He got his first guitar at age 6, which he still has to this day, tho it sits

in the corner of his room next to the boxes overfilled with records he has listened to more than once. The red hot chilli peppers where his first inspiration he says, “..when ever I would hear Josh Klinghoffer’s part coming in the song I would already have my guitar in my lap barely being able to grip around the chords to play (chuckles) but don’t get me wrong I would still be able to do it.” I asked, “why guitar?” He responded with the easiest answer, “..because all the girls like guys that can play (we both laugh)”. He has been playing for close to 5 years but he said he was pretty trash until the 2nd year of playing. He hasn’t been in a band but tries to stick to making his own music even tho he refuses to publish and let others outside of his friend group here his creations. He not only plays guitar but also does electronic music which he now started a few months ago. As most people know, you always face challenges in everything you do, and that’s the same for him. His response was,”I’ll have to say a challenge was actually picking it up and learning how to play but also doing it when you weren’t at a class getting a lesson, it’s just like riding a bike your parents teach you but if you don’t go out on your own to stay with what you learned you’ll forget what you had and will start over again. I just had to stay on what I had an every couple of days play part of the song and slowly learn the next chords day after day till I was complete” This behavior ties into to school work as kids need to keep up and keep learning a lesson more than one day or the core ideas won’t be able to stick in their mind and they won’t learn. And then this all ties back again to the stress reliever of an instrument as this would most likely cause stress on this individual’s. As we sat in his room we got to the topic of what lies ahead, as in the future. Would it be a different path or maybe stick

behind his passion. As I started,”So we got one more year left, what’s the plan...”, “ I think, yes think I’m not sure yet, I want to try and get into a college around the bay area possibly studying one of the sciences. But I wouldn’t just drop what I do everyday and love (guitar)”. As we continued the conversation he explained why it is he would always keep playing, to keep stress down and to just “chill”. He’s this meditative, Eastern, Buddhist-like guitarist who has a healthy approach to life. In fact, guitar playing itself has been shown to release “feel good chemicals,” and so Aryan is a positive example of how to live a balanced life as a teen. Playing an instrument, such as a guitar, has been proven to help stress as seen in an article by GuitarTricks, it reads “It releases endorphins, those feel-good chemicals, in the body. Playing the guitar, or any instrument, has a calming effect on the mind and body. Studies show that music not only reduces stress, but it helps to lower blood pressure levels as instrument, has a calming effect on the mind and body. Studies show that music not only reduces stress, but it helps to lower blood pressure levels as well. Aryans secret to keeping his stress down is something that as easy as a passion. It not only could work for him but also for many people in any situation. He ends our interview with a quote. “ Why keep your head down to the ground seeing the same thing while you could be happy seeing everything in its glory..” 4
