I a poetry anthology

by Makeda Yezalaleul

n this poetry anthology, you will read several works which define concepts, people, and issues prevalent in my life. I suggest you read these poems aloud and allow yourself to find your rhythm and pace in the words. For the two duet poems I’ve included within this selection, I encourage you to read with someone else. The lines to the far left and far right of the page are exclusive to two separate individuals while the lines in the center of the page are to be spoken together. The most rewarding aspect of writing poetry for me is when an audience member, reader, classmate, friend or stranger is unintentionally moved by what I’ve written. That ability to bridge gaps between different narratives fuels me to write on, and my hope is for you to walk away from reading this having gained something. It is the stories we have and share with others that which define us and continue our legacy.
