“
There is no mythology in that our Greek services operate with the same philosophy that has brought success to our Italian and Iberian services.
“
Having been involved in the Greek market since 2005, circumstances in February 2012 led us to change our partner. Since then, our road freight groupage service has grown from strength to strength. Following the appointment of our new partner, with facilities in both Athens and Thessaloniki, plus their ability to manage dangerous goods, we have been able to become more financially competitive, and have been able to introduce dangerous goods into this line. Currently loading between 3 and 4 export groupage trailers each week, a summary of our export services comprise: Athens

Every Tuesday & Friday via Athens
Our departures on Friday are direct to Greece, whilst those departing on a Tuesday are either direct, or via our Milan partner’s depot. Transit times are unaffected in either case with Tuesday departures arriving in Greece the following Monday/Tuesday and Friday departures arriving Wednesday/Thursday.
To supplement our southbound service we are also loading regular round trip trailers northbound, leaving Greece on a weekly basis from both our Athens and Thessaloniki depots independently on Thursday and Friday respectively. As with our southbound services, dangerous goods can be carried, and transit times are echoed with trailers arriving in the UK each Wednesday.
Our Partner in Greece Vianox Svolos SA has been established in Athens, Greece, since 1968. The Svolos Group has enjoyed a successful business record in several fields, from manufacturing through to distribution, I.T. systems, and sea freight within the bulk sector. In addition, in 1997 they entered the Third Party Logistics Service (3PL) by developing a modern 25,000 square metre warehouse and distribution centre in a prime location in Athens. In 2012 Vianox Svolos SA expanded its logistics activities into the international forwarding sector, taking additional advantage of the demise of one of the leading Greek forwarders, and so, for the UK, our partnership was created. At the same time, they expanded upon their facility in Thessaloniki to cater for the export and import business in the North East of Greece. In addition to the UK, Vianox also provide groupage services to a number of other European countries, details of which can be found at: www.vianox.gr

FRAUD ISSUES
FACED BY CUSTOMS BROKERS Mitigation of these risks is possible. In the first instance, it is important to review your own internal processes and systems. Recognise that the risk exposures are business critical and implement robust technology systems and standard operating procedures accordingly, particularly considering access rights and controls. Secondly, ensure that well drafted standard trading conditions are properly incorporated into your interactions with all clients. Many national trade associations provide ideal models. You should seek legal advice to ensure that contracts are appropriate for your specific business. A third obvious mitigation is to purchase adequate and appropriate insurance. You should discuss this with your broker to ensure that your specific needs are properly covered.

As most airfreight is ‘volume’ (that is, its volume is greater than the usual airline conversion ratio of 6000cc per kilo) it is charged by volume rather than weight. Skilful combination of dense and volume cargo can reduce the average volume: weight ratio of cargo on the pallet, resulting in more capacity, and a lower cost per kilo - part of which saving is then passed back to the wholesaler’s customers.

The introduction of the Loi Macron has been on the horizon for some time, and now it’s finally in place, I’d urge logistics managers to ensure that they remain compliant. The situation remains changeable, with the European Commission issuing an infringement procedure in June which stated that the new regulations created disproportionate administration for transport operators. It remains to be seen how well enforced this ruling will be in France, but I would encourage transport operators to err on the side of caution and ensure that their drivers have the correct documentation to hand when transporting goods to, or through, France. What processes do you have in place to make sure goods are dispatched and arrive on time? Through our global network of locations we are able to track our customer’s consignments through every single step of the logistics chain. From the point of booking through to mode selection, loading, transportation, landing and delivery, every single consignment is tracked globally. Throughout the consignments journey our central team in Heywood are able to manage each phase through our bespoke online information systems, NetStock, direct port and customs links and the use of our own assets, such as fleet and cold stores.
