ast year, Corporate Solutions Logistics won a contract to deliver all of Vax’s products from their purpose built NDC in Droitwich to their nationwide array of customers.

Corporate Solutions won the contract after detailed and ongoing negotiations led by Sales Director Mark Ponsonby and Senior Logistics Analyst Stuart Payne. CSL installed an in-house transport management team and working closely with Vax’s warehousing and supply chain professionals they devised a system that dealt effectively with Vax’s complex sales profile. A mixture of in-house dedicated vehicles reinforced with quality approved suppliers helped us to cover even the most challenging periods, for example, Christmas, when deliveries doubled over and above the norm. They look forward to a long working relationship with Vax and are currently looking at their whole supply chain from inception to completion. Vax are synonymous with high quality domestic appliances and Corporate Solutions look to provide an equally high quality distribution operation to complement their products.

ong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has once again handled 64 of the world’s most valuable horses, competing at the Longines Masters of Hong Kong.

Fully recognised as Asia’s biggest and most prestigious equestrian event, this year’s Longines Masters marked the fourth year of the event being held in Hong Kong, and was the culmination of a 2016 intercontinental series which began in Los Angeles, before moving to Paris. It will once again be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo, from 19 -21 February. As in 2015, the official carrier for the event was Emirates Airline, for which Hactl is the cargo-handling agent in Hong Kong. Emirates transported the horses from Liege via Dubai World Central to Hong Kong, arriving on February 15th. Hactl unloaded the horses in their air stalls, and transferred them through its dedicated animal-handling centre, loading them onto waiting horseboxes using special low-angle ramps to avoid injury. When the horses were due to return to Liege via Dubai a week later, Hactl reversed the process. The entire operation, and the preparation of the Longines Masters equine competitors, was coordinated from Belgium by European Horse Services, one of the world’s leading equestrian shipping agents. Hactl has handled the Longines Masters equine entrants in all its four years in Hong Kong. It is great to see this prestigious and unique event back in Hong Kong once more, and we are delighted to have worked with Emirates and European Horse Services to ensure that the very valuable entrants were in perfect condition to take part, and then returned home safely afterwards. It seems horses handle jetlag very well! Mark Whitehead, Chief Executive, Hactl

arger private and listed companies are required by the Companies Act 2006 to report on greenhouse gas emissions. For smaller companies reporting greenhouse gas emissions is

currently voluntary but this is likely to change if the UK is to meet emissions targets. In the freight sector, larger and listed companies must already file directors’ reports stating the annual quantity of greenhouse gas emissions created by the company. The UK government is keen for smaller companies, including freight forwarders not caught by the current mandatory requirements to follow them. There may be an advantage to those smaller companies who do so if it helps them assess their own compliance with current and proposed environmental regulation or use green credentials as an effective marketing tool. However there are also risks. The Financial Reporting Council (the body responsible for enforcing compliance with financial reporting obligations under the Companies Act 2006) has the power to impose sanctions for failing to compile company reports properly, even where the error relates to a voluntary disclosure. Reporting emissions should therefore be approached with caution but there is an opportunity here to gain a market advantage. Dan Griffin, Solicitor, Tozers LLP

The calculations are relatively straightforward but specialist advice should be sought on: •• The FRC reporting requirements •• How to identify the scope of what needs to be reported – for example third party’s emissions caused by your activities may be within scope •• Using green credentials in marketing – there are opportunities but also pitfalls
