For example, Hong Kong ranks fourth in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings while China is a lowly 78th. In the ‘Trading across Borders’ sub-index China ranks 96th, behind even war-torn West Bank & Gaza. Despite all of China’s economic and trading successes, forwarders, shippers or logistics companies regularly bemoan the difficulties of organising supply chains on the Mainland. Hong Kong, by contrast, is home to both the regional head offices of the world’s largest transport service providers, and a teeming mass of SME agents, forwarders and shippers. All compete for freight and are quickly able to organise its delivery via slick customs departments shorn of the bureaucracy encountered in China. They are aided by efficient and competitively-priced access to Hong Kong International Airport, the world’s largest international airport hub by tonnage, and one of the world’s largest container ports. All of which helps explain why in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index Hong Kong ranks 9th globally and is the second top performer in Asia behind Singapore. China ranks a lowly 27th. Much of the Hong Kong forwarding community’s success has come from handling cargo sourced or heading to the Mainland and China’s leaders could well reflect why this is the case. rior to starting Fetchr, I was heading operations at Marka VIP, a leading e-commerce company in MENA back in the day. The company faced several issues with customer complaints about delayed packages or sometimes packages not getting delivered at all due to drivers facing issues finding addresses in the region, leading to high

return rates. The industry did not care about the customer, did not take them seriously. I built an in-house logistics department to expedite deliveries. While working on this, I realized the potential impact a customer-centric, technology backed delivery solution could have for e-commerce and all deliveries across the region. In 2012 I decided to start Fetchr with Hassan Al Sayegh, Omar Yaghmour and teamed up with Joy Ajlouny, Co-Founder and Creative Director.
